Worst English professor at GCC by far. Thinks very highly of herself, when she has absolutely no reason to. Unwilling to work with students outside of class, does not offer office hours, and never returns e-mails promptly. Take her at your own risk!

Now being taught by distinguished professors at a top 10 Uni confirms my conclusion that Watkins is UNFIT as a teacher. She does not know the material she's teaching. She does NOT close read the text, and only provides superficial, CHILD-LIKE interpretations. Her teaching is a joke, not to mention she has a disgustingly rude personality

This professor make you feel horrible about yourself, she always puts down your effort by referring to your research paper as " a weak paper". And then in return gives no constructive criticism, learn nothing and feel upset after her class. Does not grade fairly and gives the whole class 68 % on every single essay,exams, and research paper.

Never prepared for class, makes you work on pointless assignments that she won't collect half the time. During the times you work on those assignments she grades your past assignments and returns them, making sure to leave no constructive criticism. She isn't afraid to embarrass you in front of everyone and does it in a very degrading way. Horrible

I agree with all the negative comments here, and I am really surprised to see positive comments. For instance, in our class there are only 8 students left at the end of the semester from 45. How can anyone even like her teaching. It seems like she has some personal problems which is why she's ready to take it out on all her students.

Our class dropped from 35+ student to less than 10 for the final so this should be an indication on how the class was!! No enthusiasm, and no inspiration!! No clear idea on the grading structure, and no effort on professor side to address the issues of students. The worst experience I ever had in college so far.

Students don't dare to make comments or questions as she will make you to feel that you are the stupid one. The grading details are very vague and selective. I would prefer to drop the class rather than to stay . Just be careful if you want to take her.

Before I choose this professor I read all comments here and her over quality is 3.8 which is not that bad. The class is only 3 units but you have to work more than on classes with 5 units. I couldn't learn anything from her because she expect you to know everything! She made fun of some people in our group in front of everyone.

Indeed she expects you to know everything, while she teaches nothing. Grading was unclear. And she would make one to feel embarrassed in front of many. If someone wants to learn and enjoy the class then it is better to look on other options. I will not recommend her.

The professor care the least about her students and she expressed it clearly in every given situation. You should not expect to learn anything however you should be ready to know everything. Good luck if you want to take her.

Rough class. Despite being a straight A student, I couldn't quite understand what this professor expected of me, and I opted to withdraw. I honestly tried, but I just didn't have any guidelines. I needed instruction and direction, and I felt I didn't receive any to allow me to do well in this course.

Do not make the mistake of taking a class with this professor. Doesn't care about students, completely vague about expectations, totally unhelpful. Don't expect to learn what you don't go out of your way to learn yourself. Very lazy teacher.

She will go out of her way to try and make you fail. Class is one of the hardest classes that you will ever take. She treats it like a top AP class, ensuring that you have at least 2 hours of homework every night even though it's supposed to be one of the easiest classes. If you don't want to be stressed every day, don't take this professor.

I tried very hard to like this lady, but every time I was warming up to her class, she would do something irrational like accuse people of cheating (when its obvious they didn't) and accuse the entire class of not reading or doing the homework. She's not funny and just comes off as a rude, unlikeable person. Strongly urge students to look elsewhere

I made the horrible mistake of not reading the reviews for her before signing up for her class. Teacher is no bueno and I wish I had withdrawn early instead of waiting and thinking I could handle this. This teacher cannot be handled and you will get at least 3 grades lower than your expectations.

Her class was total dysphoria. Every day she would walk through the doors late in a horrible mood looking for people who didn't do their homework so she could yell at them infront of the entire class. If you dont say what shes thinking during discussions, she will sit there and roll her eyes and then tell you that you didn't read. Bad teacher.

I work very hard in order to get good grades, but in this class working hard is honestly not enough. This professor is extremely rude and disrespectful, I usually dont rate but others should beware of taking her. Im not lazy nor opt to take only easy classes I like a challenge but its impossible to pass her class.

There's definitely something wrong with her when it comes to social cues. She thinks its 100% okay to mock students infront of everyone for making simple mistakes and the worst part is that she doesn't care about it. I have never experienced a teacher this odd and hurtful before, and strongly encourage people to look elsewhere for english classes

She is the worst professor I've ever had during my education at GCC. She is very disrespectful, ironic, and unconcerned about what students learn. She posts the assignments with poor descriptions of the requirements and gives low grades for not doing it appropriately. She doesn't respond to emails and never gives clarification. Im in awe of how much I did not learn from her. She is unbelievably bad. Also, Im pretty sure she forges good reviews. Her smile always brightened my day. like who even says that. Basically the equivalent of a 4th grade reading class with 10x the amount of homework and unpassable exams/essays. She grades heavily based on opinion. I'm a 4.0 student and struggled to get a C. Retook this class with another professor and got an A+. What a surprise. Other reviews are 100% accurate. I had about 3 hrs of hw every night. Awful.

Extremely lazy and disrespectful teacher. She's so lazy to the point where she gave about 3 elementary level lectures throughout the entire semester, and doesn't even post your grade online, so you're basically just left guessing what your grade is. I've never met a teacher this weird before. Only reason I didn't drop is because I spent $ on it.

This class was a nightmare. Despite being a 3 unit course, it demanded the most time of any class I took by far. Vita will bury you under a mountain of assignments and if you miss one it's an automatic fail. Her grading is inconsistent and unfair. Her feedback is unhelpful. She is by far one of the worst professors I ever had. She buries you with a mountain of homework that are due within like two days of each other. It's closer to 40 if you include minor assignments, rough drafts etc. I have never been a bad student and her class was not hard. But the amount of work she gave us should be criminal. She gave more work in a week then my other classes combined, no joke. Avoid her.

if I could describe my experience in this class it would be: horrific. I have never met a professor that publicly ridicules and undermines their students for making simple mistakes. Her homework is unbearable and basically writing 2-3 micro essays a week. Truly an awful professor who should learn how to encourage her students rather than mock them.

Would score negative if possible! It is easy to see why they have garnered the scores they do- it is because most- if not ALL- students are intimidated by this person. You can tell a lot by someone whose opening liner is "People call me mean, but I don't bite." Whether or not they are qualified as an EDUCATOR is questionable. Avoid Watkins.

Professor Vita Watkins is very rude and extremely disrespectful to her students. Gives so much work it truly is insane. instructions are not clear and is very rude when you ask for clarity. Yells and belittles students, unfair grading also, for the record I was passing her class but dropped out because I was disgusted by her unprofessionalism!

I'm a freshman. I can't find words to describe my experience. MOUNTAINS of hw only for 3 units. I took other classes worth 8.5 units together, AND THEY DIDN'T REQUIRE HALF THE TIME AND EFFORT AS HER USELESS ASSIGNMENTS AND COUNTLESS PAPERS. If you're actually trying to improve your writing don't bother. You'll write 5+ essays and give feedback on the first one near finals. She gives a lot of work expected to be done in little time but will take as long as she wants to grade it. In short bad work ethic and a lot of work with little reward. Dreaded everything in this class.

She graded the rest of my hw on the last day so when I went to email her about my grade, the class was removed the next day and I never got an email back. I was 0.83% away from a B and I only took the class since I already had a grade equivalent to a C on my transcript after taking AP Eng Lit and Comp Exam. My time, money and effort was wasted.

Many essays without rubrics. She provides very poor and negative feedback like, "you failed ..." very often which is not constructive. She takes forever to grade. A horrible professor. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone. Whe you resubmit the work, she ignores it.

The positive reviews are definitely added by her, ignore them. I think this woman is a deeply angry and bitter person who genuinely enjoys taking it out on her students. Traumatizing class, I mean that with all sincerity. She genuinely needs to just retire, it is so obvious how much she deeply hates her students and her job.

This was a very demanding and stressful course. Books used that aren't within GCC, but have to have them because SHE likes them. Expectations were often unclear, and grading feedback was not always provided in a timely manner. Despite consistent effort and participation, the overall experience was frustrating. I would not recommend this class.
