She was a great teacher. Her homework assignments were't always clear, but she was always willing to help. Do the work!! Easy class, overall. Participate in class and do all the work--easy A!

She's an amazing teacher. Ms. Watkins makes you think and she is open minded to your writing style and appreciates everyone's interpretation on poems and literature.
She's a pretty good teacher as long as you don't disappoint her. Show up late, don't turn in homework, use your cell in class - any of these and you'll get an earful. If she could treat students with more respect (even though not always deserving) she'd be a fantastic teacher.
Horrible Teacher! Mean as could be. She is not considerate, she gets flustered all the time, paranoid about everything! I was in a car accident and expected me to be there the next day! Terrible teacher, boring class overall. Plus, assignments are hard to understand.
She was probably THE most frustrating teacher I have ever had! She doesn't explain things and expects you to know how to write at a university level. She belittles students in front of the whole class and is very rude if you don't bring your book/hw. I would give her a negative rating if I could. Don't take her!
I love professor Watkins! She pushes you to work hard but she will definitely improve your writing and critical thinking skills.
Stay on top of the reading. She will call you out in class if you dont know the material. She a hard teacher but if you work hard you will receive the grade you want. Textbook is a must, will kick students out if you dont have textbooks.
probably the rudest teacher i have ever had. she degrades students in front of the entire class and makes you feel stupid any chance she gets.plays favoritism like no other.contradicts almost every thing i was ever taught about writing.has her own way of doing everything and if you dont do it her way she makes fun of you or yells at you.trynot2take
I LOVE her class! She is a hard grader, but if you do the homework and show up to class she is a good teacher. You will learn a lot from her!!
If you want to do well in her class you need to read the stories and I mean all of them. When you write essay make sure to critically think. She has an OK personality. I would suggest taking her because she explains things very well and the stories read are very interesting.
She grades mostly on who she likes in the class, rather than the actual work done by her students. She also loves to put her students down and make them feel small

A lot of my classmates did not like this teacher, but I thought she was very good. She pushed, but not hard enough so that you would break. Otherwise, she was thoughtful, and had a sense of humor. I enjoyed her class very much.
I wouldn't take her class again. She doesn't explain things well and will accuse you of not paying attention if you ask any questions! Too much homework as well!
She is "hard" if by hard you mean she expects that you do your homework, attend class be PREPARED and study the material. If those expectations are too high for you as a college student then I would suggest you take a different teacher. If however you expect to work in your college class you will be fine. She is a good teacher.
Many people gave Professor Watkins a hard time for being a poor teacher, but honestly, I don't see why. She was tough, at times, but her class is, by no means, too difficult. Aside from clearly defining material, she is very pliable, helpful, and fair. You will work in her class, but it's not too much to handle, at all.
I loved her! just show up and have an opinion about the stories you read and she will make it easy for you. If you don't try or read the stories you wont do good in her class. This is a critical thinking class so you have to share an opinion. but EASY class! She takes in your opinions & just take alot of notes when she is talking & you will do fine

"This is college people" One thing is this professor reminds you of allll semester. She is very stern and doesn't take excuses. Half my class dropped her by the 2nd week. Advice: DO THE READINGS! She loves pop quizzes, expect one every class. Personally, not worth taking. Hard grader.
If you want a professor who will berate you if you have questions or don't completely agree with her opinions then this is the class for you! Only 7 people even showed up for the final! If this is your only class go for it,there is a lot of work. She acts as though this is the only class in the school. If you have a full workload, its your funeral
Pay attention and you will learn to critically think! If you want to learn and actually work for your grade, this class is great. She will take the time to help you if you have questions and want to succeed. Writing is not my strong suit and I have always struggled with English classes, however I was able to write a proper paper after her class.

Ms. Watkins was the nicest English teacher I have had. She makes time to give feed back and help whenever needed. I must have sent her my res paper draft 10 times, and each time she gave me feed back to make it stronger. Glad I took her class!

The Class is the same thing everyday. Assigned something to read, then next class take a quiz on it then talk about it. No tests but a few in class essays and a final research paper. The class is really boring and pretty tough. She is fairly nice but could be a real jerk. If she sees your quiz is short she will read it to herself and start laughing
She is a very tough grader and is rather intimidating. However, she is the reason I get A's on almost every essay I have written since taking her class. I took her for M01A and M01B, and am so thankful I did so. She is only hard on those who provoke her, but is the absolute nicest and most helpful professor so long as you're actually trying.
Great teacher! I learned a lot about writing and thinking in her class. The way she taught really helped with my application to UCLA. Accepted for fall 2015.
Prof. Watkins is tough. She will make you read and write like crazy. If you need help she's there for you, however, kind of intimidating. I don't believe I improved my writing skills in this class. She is only concerned about what she wants specifically, and not a writing style that would be accepted in other courses overall.

Prof. Watkins is a great teacher. She just wants students to own what they do. She prepared me for transfer to a 4 year.
Watkins overall is a good teacher, she tells you exactly what she wants and expects you to do exactly what she asks for. If you can follow directions to a T you will be fine. But beware, she takes things like missing homework or blank quizzes personally, and wont hesitate to rudely call you out. Don't expect any grace from her or understanding.
Watkins is good teacher but has a terrible personality. She openly calls her students out, embarrassing them and lowering self esteem. If you don't say a word in her class and don't ask questions, you will be fine. She does not like answering questions and helping her students out. Watkins is tough, rude, not helpful and scary. Tests are hard, she makes you read and write more than any class ever will. obviously does not care about her students. One of the worst teachers I have ever had at this school. Do yourself a favor and take creative writing instead. She knows her subject well but seems to dislike teaching it.
The only thing I learned from this class was to despise writing. Vita Watkins is a tough grader with an even tougher personality, she is rude to students and degrades them during class daily. Self esteem levels in writing seriously dropped after taking her class. I do NOT recommend. Lots of essays, reading and work + a cold hearted teacher.
teacher warmed up to the class. super hard grader but i think it is because she is super educated and super read. you will need to really impress her with your writing skills and contribute to class. will make you a better writer and must work for your grade. don't slack and you will pass.
She is very specific in what she likes in your writing which makes it difficult at first. However she is super willing to work with you and for you to make you the best writer you can be. I learned more from this class and discovered more about myself than any other class. By the end of the semester all of us in the class were like a family.

One of the worst teachers Ive had. Tough grader, and even tougher on students, not understanding in any way. Seems like she dislikes teaching, was a very rude throughout semester. Assigned a lot of papers and nightly readings and does not accept late work, gets mad at students who turn it papers late. Diffidently dont recommend her, not easy.
Terrible professor, if you want to enhance your writing skills, DONT take this class! Its hard and Prof. Watkins doesn't seem to care about her students. Rude, uncaring, and cold-hearted. She could not make it any more clear to her students how much she does not like them or her job. She has zero patience, does not respond to e-mails to save a life, and has little respect for her students. Watkins seems to be a bit of a sadist. She truly enjoy her students' misery. overall she seems like a nice person. but in class she's awful. she gives so much reading for homework and if you don't have the homework she yells at you and asks you to leave. she gives so many essays and gives no advice on how to write them. be prepared to analyze a lot of readings and be sad all semester
Professor Watkins often has quizzes and pop quizzes. This makes it difficult because you must memorize each text you read in detail to answer the questions correctly. Also the majority of essays to be written are timed in class essays that must be completed in two hours. This makes it difficult because of the six paragraphs you must write in class.
Every rating on prof Watkins so far has not been helpful. She is a tough teacher but is always helpful, caring and understanding. Show up, Do your work, and act like a college student and she will like you. Excuses will get you no where in her classroom so just do the work.
Seems mean but is actually really nice. There is a lot of homework but as long as you do the work its an easy A. Class discussions are required and so are reading every night. She does have pop quizzes on homework but are super easy if you read. In class essays are easy but tough with time. Research paper is easy and helps you along the way
This class isn't an easy A/B, you will have to work for it. Prof. Watkins will come off as mean sometimes but is actually a good teacher and willing to work with you to get the grade you want. She expects discipline so just show up and bring ALL your materials, show that you care and she will like you.
Though Watkins may come off sort of mean at first, she is a nice person and approachable. You will be required to read and write almost on a daily basis. This class is not an easy A or even B. However, if you are willing to work hard and implement her feedback, you will pass and learn a great deal. If you are up for the challenge, take this class.
Don't take this professor unless you're ready to WORK. There's (mind-numbing) readings every night and time consuming homework assignments. When it comes to in class essays, she gives little to no guidances regarding format/structure, which will hurt your grade. There's many discussions, too. You need to participate, follow instructions, and READ!

How is this professor still teaching, I made a formal complain to the dean of the department with signatures of EVERY SINGLE STUDENT in my class!! She's rude, openly mocks students, made fun of a foreign students accent and has WAY too high expectations for students. Don't take this class, I received an A because i worked for it, WASNT WORTH It

Doesn't care, seems to hate her job, complains constantly, lots of reading, papers, VERY rough class to sit through. If you struggle with anything in life, do yourself a favor and stay away for your mental health, she will bring you down!
Teacher accused a student of cheating on a quiz infront of the entire class because he didn't do the homework the previous night. Homework assignments are nightly and take hours to complete. Daily quizzes where you need to write multi paragraph responses. Overall boring class and the teacher doesn't seem to respect anyone, yet wants respect back.
Had a great summer school class only to start the year to this teacher. She doesn't teach yet expects you to be an excellent writer and oh yeah shes also a horrible grader, and will mark you down on basically everything even if your paper is perfect. I had my writing looked over by several of the moorpark tutors I still failed. Class is a joke.
For some reason she hates all electronics and if your phone is out at all she marks you absent even if you were there before everyone else. Complete opposite of a chill teacher and I really wish I had read the reviews about her before spending money on this class
Confusing instruction and unclear quiz questions. I got a W for giving up on her course I was putting in tons of effort for no positive feedback.
Alot of the things she teaches are not correct, doesn't really seem to know what she is talking about.
Took online, never received anything lower then a B in an English class yet I got a C in her class. Tests do not go along with her work, does not respond to emails, and finally if you change what she said to "fix" on prior essays you will not receive a higher grade. I honestly think she doesn't read them after your first essay. Do NOT take.
The class average are the same for every essay/test down to the decimal. Her handwriting is horrible, and if you do manage to read it and make the changes, your grade will stay the same. I had a private tutor assist me in writing an essay and still got a D, which was the same grade as when I wrote it on my own. Would not recommend this instructor.
Basically at the start of the sem. she makes you do an "ungraded practice essay" which basically determines how she grades your essays for the rest of the semester. I'm an A student and was struggling to even get C's on her assignments, and I heavily doubt she even reads them. If there's any teacher in the world that you should avoid, it's this one
Worst teacher I have ever had. Too much work. 4.0 student and I only scraped by by doing ten pages of extra credit work she assigned a week before the final. All of her essays are the same damn thing and yet you can never get an A on one. Her "ideal" essay example online requires the brain of a child. She doesn't teach a single thing the whole year
Our essays were the same prompts with minor changes. We didn't learn a single thing in the year. She fails you for no reason and won't give an A on an essay. Horrible person. Really rude and makes you feel awkward. Only grades on essays that are all the same, so no space for change. Doesn't know how to teach. TOO MUCH HOMEWORKKK!!! AVOID THIS CLASS
I took her class few semesters ago and I literally learnt NOTHING. She was so rude and grumpy all the times, except on the day of evaluation where she smiles and tries to be nice to everybody. I was so depressed with her class and didnt even wanted to attend. Worst professor I have seen in my life.
Classes are awkward and uncomfortable. Is often rude and treats students horribly. No sense of sympathy/empathy. Almost impossible to get an A on anything. If you take more than one class you will be swamped by only her homework. Has made students cry and have panic attacks in and out of class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
All you will do in her class is read feminist passages and answer questions. I retained nothing of value from having her as a teacher. Seems as if she has no qualifications whatsoever; doesn't teach; extremely rude; assigns major projects over holiday breaks; puts students down, etc, the list goes on. I highly suggest reading the other comments.

If you need honors credit for the Honors Program and thought of taking an English class to get it, look elsewhere. The differentiation between the honors course and the regular was not worth the added suffering. Professor Watkins treated this class as if it was the only one students were taking. Students need expert organizational skills to pass.
Disgustingly mean to her students. Random grading. Mountains of assignments and work. Tests every class. Probably the worst instructor I've ever had in my entire life. Disagree with her? She'll kick you out of the zoom call. It is my opinion that you should avoid this instructor at all cost. More than 1/2 class dropped by mid-terms.
This professor is extremely rude and unprofessional. She admonishes and berates students in front of the whole class. When Im person, we would turn in quizzes to her desk and she would pick them up and read them. If she didnt like what you wrote, she would shake her head and go tsk tsk tsk in a criticizing manner. Has no business being a teacher.
She is so sweet and super understanding when students need more time to work on things. Lots of work but she picks interesting topics for readings!
Expect a lot of reading and writing if you are going to take this course, especially older writings like Shakespeare. You will learn a lot from this class and your writing skills will definitely improve, but a lot of the work seems highly unnecessary. I recommend attending the non-mandatory meetings and asking questions to push for an A.

English has been one of my favorite subjects since Elementary school and this woman somehow ruined that. She is an insanely heavy grader if she finds one thing she does not like about your work she's going to dock you 2 whole points. I have had only As in my English classes since elementary school and barely stuck to a low B in this class. Avoid!
Professor Watkins gave me a C, criticized my writing, and suggested retaking her class. Instead, I took more writing courses and earned A's in all. Despite ACCESS approving my laptop use, she made me handwrite, which slowed me down and impacted my grades. It's unfair to deny accommodations and penalize students with disabilities.
Very bad at effectively commanding use of the english language. Poor communication skills when writing descriptions for assignments, unclear feedback on graded assignments, Unhelpful in email communications. Avoid if english is not your first language or if you want a feasible workload, additionally be sure to save up big bucks for the textbook.

English class in not my strong suit, I did get an A in English M01A. Professor Watkins grades VERY hard. This was an online class and I went to the writing center for every essay we had to write and she still gave me a C on EVERY paper. The last few weeks of the semester she does post multiple extra credit assignments. idk if it makes up for it tbh
Absolutely horrible. No matter how much effort or work you put into the essays and assignments, she will not give you better than a C on anything. She grades so harshly and is ruthless with the assignments. She gives so much work. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Vita is impossible to work with. She provides 0 constructive feedback on assignments. My father is a retired ivy league professor and he gave my papers 90%+ when reviewing them. Vita gave me C's & D's. She told our class that she "drinks wine by the fire when grading papers". Extremely concerning that she still teaches with this many complaints.
