Off and on. Sometimes speeds through difficult slides without allowing time for students to digest. New to BIO (working on PhD) results in limited knowledge in non-specialized areas.

Muliple choice final was ROUGH. An alright prof otherwise.

Her course notes are AMAZING and she is so organized. I love the way she teaches and she's really helpful. I think she's a great prof. BUT her midterm was brutal. Read the textbook even though she tells you you don't need to. That's a big lie! :(
She didn't even write the BIOL 130 notes, they're from a prof who taught last year. she's lazy and basically puts everything from the notes to the powerpoint. it's useless going to class.
She just reads from the course notes. It is definitely a waste of my time to go. Alhtough she is hot.
She may be pretty, but when you're paying big bucks for a single course, pretty just ain't enough. Her course notes=course notes of another prof. She reads from overheads.Explanations are unsatisfactory.I barely go to class.Instead, I read the book and listen to Bols' cd.
If I required someone to read the notes for me, I'd get a random person and do it for free. There was no point in going to her class, definitely cannot teach very well. Her exams are brutal as well.
Definitely needs work. She reads straight from her slides, which are the same as the lecture notes. Her lectures are not worth going to unless you read the text beforehand. The only plus is that she doesn't really test you on anything that isn't in the notes.
Although sweet, Dr. Dayeh is a fairly boring lecturer who needs to learn how to organize material in an interesting, effective mannar. The multiple choice is extremely difficult.
She would go out of her way to help me.I liked her. Midterm and final are tough however.
Very helpful and enthusiastic, one of the fewest instructors that actually cares about students in large classes such as this. Difficulty of final exam was not surprising, much like midterm perhaps a bit easier.
She took Dr.Bols' notes and passed them as her own through powerpoint. Useless going to class because she flat out reads someone elses lecture notes to you. To sound more knowledgeble she began every phrase by saying "Essentialy" or "The idea is" or a combo of both. Overall boring.
very pretty. Needs to spice up her lectures a bit to prevent boredom
She is very good-looking for a prof, but even that couldn't keep my from falling asleep in those night classes. She is enthusiastic but a bit boring. the animations and practice questions were helpful to clarify things though. If you miss a lecture just read the course note and you'll be ok.
she just reads the lecture notes...what a waste of money..
I agree that her lectures were useless for Bio 130 but she is an EXCELLENT prof for 273. She actually added parts in the notes where you have to add material, so people should definately go to class. She is very helpful and tries to clarify things to the full extent. If you can get a class with h
I had her for bio 130 also and she was the worst prof, she basically read out of our lecture notes. For Bio 273 she is totally different. She is so amazing. She is so much better in 273.If you take 273 take it with her.She gives course notes but not ev'ything is filled out so you get to make notes
Clearly explains the material, very helpful prof, few profs are so helpful outside the classroom as she is. Midterm was straightforward and not difficult. Take her class!
The first midterm was fairly easy. class avg was 80. The second midterm wasn't so easy perhaps its because the class avereage was too high. Overall she explains things well and is very clear on what you need to know for exams. She even gives review multiple choice questions and a game of jeopardy
If you have the lecture notes, memorize them. If you relish in the proff-student experience go to the lectures, she occassionaly throws in real world examples. She's young, enthusiastic and off to a great start, hope to have you in the future.
This is prof is ok, although she does not seem to have much knowledge of the course in detail, ie beyond what the students are expected to know. She is a pleassnt lecturer and prepares go powerpoint slides.
Very knowledgeable, excellent course notes, interesting to listen to, overall a good prof in this field (not so much for Bio130)
Very good professor, she is very easy to get in contact with plus her notes are helpful for knowing what are key points to study for. The course is very intersting and has helped me learn much of the material in my other courses. She is also pretty cute.
I have had her for BIO 130 also, very friendly, very interesting, keeps you awake and busy-handed (no monotonous tone of voice)! Very enthusiastic at helping everyone remember the info (with lecture questions) and good info about mid + Xam.
Final was brutal in comparison to the midterms.
She is an OK teacher. The greatest part about Dr. Dayeh is that her tests are very easy. Anyone who did not do well on her tests or exams obviously skipped to many classes. In Biol 273 you MUST read the text book.. dont skimp there.. if you dont youll wont be able to anser all the questions.
She is a very good prof, always energetic and willing to help. I didn't know if I wanted to keep my toxicology class, but her enthusiasm kept me in the course. It's a very interesting class and you can tell she really wants us to do well. She is very easy to get in contact with to ask questions. =) Really nice prof!
it was a boring class, but probably because its pure memorization and its dry material. however, the first midterm was easy, and then the 2nd midterm and final was BRUTAL, i don't even know how it could have been so hard, best bet is to memorize DAILY and read the textbook, look at the CD and MEMORIZE her class notes!!
this class seemed to be good until the 2nd midterm like everyone said. shes a good person, but her testing on exams sucks. the final was really hard, and i knew my stuff. you just have to work really hard, but even if u do (lime me) u might not get the results u want. i guess its better to take it with her than anyone else
AMAZING prof! knew me by my first name after meeting her once and always checked in on how i was doing! CD rom and website GREAT (USE THEM!!! THEY SAVED MY ASS!!!) i never left her office with any questions left, she took the time to make sure i understood everything regardless of office hours! Her bubbly attitude makes class interesting!
Great prof. Had her for Bio 130 (cell bio) and hated hre so much. Then had her again for Bio 273 and she was great. She was better at explaining this material. Memorize everything though. Kind of cheezy, but all in all, I wish she was teaching Bio 373!
She's great; something must have happened between the time she taught the other raters this course and now. Very clear, enthusiastic and approachable. Uses skeleton notes, text diagrams and animations very well. If she's teaching any more of my required courses, I will definitely try to make sure she's my prof.
Very enthusiastic in teaching the material, but often rushes them. Beware of her midterms and finals, because the options are quite deceiving. The course is pure memorization.
LERAN HER NOTES BY HEART AND U WILL ACE THE EXAM
She was an amazing prof.... taught everythin really thoroughly.... excellent tone.. won't make u want to go to sleep... I have never had a prof with lecture notes like hers.... everything you need to know are right in the notes... mid term for her portion is straight out of notes... :)
took 483 after having her for 354. she is amazing. she gives really tough exams, but her notes are great and she is very helpful. too bad shes not teaching any more of my courses. listen carefully, her sense of humour can be subtle -its all about sacrificing the rats- but she's still funny.Dr Dayeh, if ur reading, please make our final bearable!
Her marking on the presentation and paper is not fair and did not follow her marking scheme. In fact she has some hidden criterion just to bring your mark down if she wants it. Your mark of the project can drop signigicantly (20%) for little things even if you give a good detail of the topic. I cannot type more but in general, she is an amateurProf
everything about this course and the prof is useless.... from her notes, to the rediculoud midterm that required you to memorize every point (and only those points- you cannot include any other info, even from the text for instance)to the pointless presentations where the focus was on public speaking... and let's not even start about the paper...
hey, presentations ARE about public speaking. whats the point of knowing something if you cant talk to people about it.university grads should be able to speak in public. grow up, she's writes very hard exams, but is one of the better profs at waterloo. this was an elective anyway, if you couldn't hanle the courseload, you should have dropped it.
She is a great prof! Explains everything clearly and even dedicated one class to a midterm review-playing jeopardy! Haven't had a midterm of hers yet but she definitely knows her stuff
Ok so she has hard midterms..but is a great prof nonetheless! Just watch out for her questions..very trick :(
She should stick to teaching kinesiology courses because she really doesn't know what she's doing when it comes to biology. Reading the course notes that all the students have in front of them is not teaching.

cannot teach!!! doesn't seem to understand the material. Shes basically reads for the course notes. Don't bother asking question because you won't get an answer.
Very very nice lady and rather easy midterms. BUT the final is just ridiculous. A few contradictions in the manual and a lot more than the amount that she said would be from the textbook was NOT true. A lot more textbook stuff than specified. Final was mostly application/thinking types NOT memorization like the midterms.

i hated this prof..if u have any problems at all, even small ones, she wont help u and is completely unfair, midterm was hard and pretty much told the class we were dumb..need to really know ur stuff...found that the actually material wasnt too bad, but just didnt like her as a prof
she reads off the slides , you would have to check your own pulse to see if your still alive , the woman is hard headed , she uses questions that are already given to her , and then claims to have made her own exam , she advises you incorrectly as to whats on the exam , has low research experience , so everything she says probably was on wikipedia.
good and clear
Great speaker! Easy to understand and follow material during lectures. Also, from personal experience, I know that she is very helpful and understanding outside of class. No idea how some people might not like her. Tests are fair. material very interesting!

easy course with clear course notes. memorize the course notes and you'll pass with flying colours.
She is awesome, so easy to listen to and she makes it very enjoyable. Plus, she's pretty cute.
she is a great professor
simply amazing professor.final exam harder than the midterms, but she's great
wow...she's the hardest professor ever.
Her comment on us complaining that we have two exams back to back: "you knew about it all term". - Well Vivian, so did you. You chose to make our lives hell, and then you complain at how we don't do well.
I have no idea what everyone else is talking about. Obviously, you need to know details in this course, its MOLECULAR BIO for christ sakes. SHe's very helpful if you go in and look at your exam, know the course notes, yes theres a lot of material but if you spend some time reading it it will make sense. Tests are fair, classes are not bad. Great pr
I took biol 308 with her before 273. She is one of UWs best lecturers. Her notes are thorough. She brings life to her lectures. We played jeopardy for a MT review. Read the textbook and keep up with the course. Very approachable and helpful outside of class.
She's incapable of answering questions which go beyond the textbook; as she is far from knowledgable. Her notes are just lines and lines of text. She often uses sentance fragements instead of complete sentances in her notes which annoys me. She is full of it in so much as if you have a midterm conflict, she forces the other prof to accomodate you.
She is a great prof. The lecture notes are very helpful. My only complaint is that when a student asks a question in class she goes up to them and answers to them only so that the rest of the class don't know the question or answer. Very enthusiastic about physiology, especially when pretending to be an antibody.
Great course, great prof :) Midterms and finals were very detailed though, so you have to know your stuff.
Awesome Prof. She's very energetic and gives you a positive attitude towards the course material. The exams are fair as long as you do your part of the job - which is to keep up with the readings! The course was also extremely interesting!
Completely unknowledgeable. I had questions that built upon things we discussed in class and she simply replied "I don't know" to the questions, she did not even attempt an answer. Her notes are utterly useless. It's all about word by word memorization with her, not surprising since I suspect that is how she obtained what little knowledge she has..
Dr. Dayeh was very passionate about human phys and made the class very fun and interesting. Yes, she did pull some questions from the text, but this is UNIVERSITY! I didn't read the text and still did well too. Though: She says she focuses the 2nd midterm and final on the most recent stuff, but don't listen; study EVERYTHING anyway and you are fine
Very intersting course material... but completely unreasonable prof. She should stick to teaching kin courses
Biol 483 material is more difficult than the material seen in 130 and 273, but she makes sure the class understands before moving on. She is spoon-feeding you the information, why complain about difficulty? Everyone should do their part in the course (taking notes, pay attention). Move with the flow of her enthusiasm and you will do well!
She comes off to me as insincere. She spends too much time repeating stuff from 130, and doesnt cover new stuff well. Her notes suck: irritating, distracting, and time wasting fill in the blank crap; and dont include diagrams or space for them. She has the course focused on remembering the names of countless proteins rather then cell processes :{
Took many courses with her. Her lectures are lively - it is hard to get bored in her class! She is VERY approachable & helpful outside of class - swing by during office hours, it'll be worth it. As with all university courses, you have to work for your grade - study the notes and text readings & you'll get a good mark.
in reference to a comment below about spoonfeeding...no thanks, being spoon-fed fact after fact without rhyme nor reason is enough to make me keel over and heave. She is all about memorizing facts in a disjointed fashion b/c she herself does not understand the processes sufficiently. She can't answer questions I've posed that she SHOULD be able to.
her notes are designed so poorly that they confound me. When you are talking about cellular processes it is important to have diagrams and models, she just has lines and lines of run-on sentances. Also she feels the need to tab in 3 or 4 times so she is also killing the environment by wasting paper! Her enthusiasm masks her utter lack of knowledge.
A very nice professor who is very knowledgeable about physiology. Entertaining teaching style, material was very interesting. Spring term had a 40% midterm with 60% final with 2% bonus. All multiple choice questions. She even gives you an entire bank of multiple choice to study for the final. Easy and enjoyable class with Dr. Dayeh.
Very good prof, explains everything to the core. Very nice and encouraging BUT tests are very hard. Still worth it, she makes Physio fun
She is a good prof and is very nice and easy to approach. The key is to listen in class and then the notes will make sense.
Dr. Dayeh is a very good professor - one of the best in the Biology department. She makes class very interesting because she is very passionate about teaching, and her notes and lectures ensure that her students should do well.
The professor was an interesting lecturer and the exams weren't too bad, but this course requires lots of reading and work, or else you'll fall behind quickly. Also, a warning about the labs: the quizzes are annoying as hell, and there's one on the very first day- make sure you study for it.
Definitely an excellent proff in terms of preparedness, etc... Take if you don't want to think too hard during the course itself - she makes everything far too easy for my own tastes: some days it feels like she's insulting our collective intelligence.
Dr. Dayeh is so enthusiastic about this course. I took 483 with her and i literally fell in love with the course and i'm interested in learning more. She's a fair marker and for a 4th year course, this coure is pretty much a fair game. She's definitely my fav. prof at uWaterloo!
Dr Dayeh is enthusiastic about the course and is very clear in her teaching. The testing is direct from her course. If I would use one word to describe her marking it's "fair". You get what you put into studying her notes, its the bible of the course. The group presentations are very interesting and let you research a variety of new topics.
very sweet prof ! she is amazing and knows how to teach ! Best prof ! exams are fair but ull enjoy attending her lectures !
very sweet prof ! she is great and knows how to teach ! exams are fair so don't take it easily!!!
Some of her midterm questions are vague. Possible answers can be wrong just by the addition of one word. Like all biology courses at UW, read all questions carefully, because they can be tricky. She should stick to being an adviser. Her midterms are fair, however. 5 quizzes (20%), 15 questions in 20 minutes per quiz. Not enough time to finish them.
Vivian was a great prof who went above and beyond to help her students succeed. Her enthusiasm and genuine passion for the subject as well as teaching made class extremely interesting! Study her course notes thoroughly and attend ALL lectures (don't worry too much about the textbook) and you'll do great! That's what I did and I landed myself a 90+!
She mostly read off the slides. She said that there will be a couple of textbook questions but had at least 10 in her her midterm. Doesn't show much interest in seeing students in her office. Doesn't respond to emails.
Very knowledgeable prof. She puts a lot of work into preparing her notes and does a great job at teaching the class. Her exams are a bit hard but you wouldn't expect a prof who has put so much work into her course to have easy exams. Read both the course notes and the textbook and you should be fine. Notes are just summarized version of textbook
Horrible slide reader and will test you on the most random facts from the slides instead of useful material. She doesn't understand anything, just memorizes.
Her course notes make the majority of the questions on tests. However, she does ask questions that are discussed in the diagrams and not in the notes, so label every body part she discusses during lectures. Lab was really fun, and helped with memorizing body parts. This course is all memorization, as it is anatomy.
Her lecturing style was not very cohesive or engaging. Her slides are packed with information and on exams would ask very detailed questions on sections not heavily covered. Practice exam questions from lectures were not similar to actual exam questions.
In a class with 200 students, one entire month during the term was dedicated to individual presentations (poorly executed in regards to time management and topic assignments). Expected to know all acronyms even though during lecture she specified we do not need to know it.
Vivian is incredibly kind and understanding. She's very clear in explaining concepts and always welcomes questions. Her lectures were structured very well and she utilized a lot of videos (which were pretty helpful). She's pretty enthusiastic about her courses so it's hard not to love going to class. Her exams are fair and focus on obvious things.
She is a good prof with interesting lectures and a likeable, funny personality. 354 is an awesome course. 273 is incredibly boring but her strong voice keeps you awake.
Explains concepts very well and an overall really approachable person!
This course suffers from factoid rote-memorization overload. The exam questions are always, given A, which trait does not correspond with A. Or given A and B, what single trait distinguishes them. You either know it or you don't. There's no concepts involved or logical systems. Spend every night doing spatial repetition and flash cards to do well.
She is overall a great professor who teaches well, and expects students to fully memorize for anatomy. I attended 95% of the lectures, and the notes she gives are decent (example - the missing words on pages), but when it comes to tests, she doesn't have many of those, and asks random things you wouldn't expect. Not available through email b4 final
This course was co-taught with Dr. Lemieux, a new addition to the Biology department. Dr. Dayeh's portion was straight-forward and she tried her best to keep things lively but I found the content really dry. No final, just 2 midterms worth 35% each and group assignments (including a presentation worth 15%). Got 80+, but hated the content.
Just came out of her final exam for anatomy, there were so many words that are NOT in her lecture notes or discussed in class. Many questions are 2 parts where you won't have a clue what the second part is. You'll get a at least70 but I think its unacceptable to have to guess 40/120 questions because it wasn't taught.
I'm not sure if she is inexperienced in teaching, or if she actually believes reading off her slides helps clarify the already confusing material. She is an approachable person in general and has optimistic attitude, but in terms of teaching capability, I would reconsider having her as someone who can help you understand the materials.
I liked her enthusiasm for the course material, but I disliked the 48-hour time window for her unit quizzes which had many ambiguous questions. Similarly, the final left you feeling like you knew APPROXIMATELY what the answers were if you studied, but worded in a tricky way. Surprisingly, the midterm was fair but don't expect that clarity elsewhere
Possibly the best teaching experience I've had at the University of Waterloo. Course materials are of a very high quality, lectures are enthusiastic and engaging. I'm glad I took Dr Dayeh's course this term.
My favourite prof- very thorough and you can tell she really cares about what she does.
She's so positive and is super upbeat all the time.
She uses a question bank so attending class is not beneficial since she doesnt test what she focuses on, she tests the tiny details. class just consists of her rambling off names of things in latin. Said textbook was optional but tested things directly from it, not discussed in class. Examinations felt more like a trick than a test of knowledge
What is wrong with those weekly quizzes. they are NOT reflective of the course textbook nor the lecture. It is so obvious she gets them from somewhere else which reflects that she is NOT caring of her students and that she is also lazy. they are timed for no absolute reason. and it is threatened that your activity is monitored so you can't check.
Had this prof for the BIOL 273 online course during quarantine and oh boy did she make this course excruciatingly difficult. She said she tests material from the textbook and course notes, I studied both and those weekly quizzes making up 30% of the entire grade DID NOT reflect any of those material. They're tricky because its CUMULATIVE each time.
I took Biol273 online during the pandemic, the lectures were very well done and made me feel confident in what I knew. But her quizzes and tests are not based on the lectures or textbook readings, she picks the most obscure and small details to test on. Overall I enjoyed the course but the testing was awful
I feel like the course needs an overhaul in the way its delivered. Students do no pay for pre-recorded lectures with the same tone throughout tbh. Not engaging
She seems like a nice person, but the way she rushed through the course material was infuriating. Additionally, her 'review questions' are not at all representative of the term test questions.
I took Prof. Dayeh in person. The course notes are really detailed and thorough so make sure to buy those. Her lectures were really detailed and the course notes covered literally everything she was saying. I personally thought the midterms were easy. She's a rlly great prof imo.
She is great, the best of the best!
I do not think I would voluntarily take a class taught by her again. The practice tests she puts out are nothing like her real tests. Her practice tests consist of very simple, general and short-worded questions that do nothing to prepare students for the test, which have questions that are the exact opposite difficulty level. Very poor experience.
Vivian is a great a prof, she wants the students to be successful; she is very caring and makes sure that you understand the content, goes over lessons in a nice pace that students can understand well, her testing is very fair, as long as you study for few days, for me I would study for approx. 5 days before the midterms and be able to do good.
Teaches well and is willing to put in a lot of effort to help her students get the most out of the course. Friendly and approachable. The only downside to this class was the mandatory textbook and the weird ui for the online resources.
Amazing professor. Very knowledgeable and gets the material across in a meaningful way. Tests are almost entirely based on the lecture notes with little textbook content.
