It was a very fun class. It's kind of a lot of work, but I really enjoyed the class regardless. My class had two small icebreaker speeches, two outlines with persuasive and informative speeches, and two impromptu speeches.

this is my second class with Vivian, in my first class i though she was super tough, in this class she seems to have found her teaching style. she is very passionate and usually makes classes fun, bring your A game to class and she'll love you

Vivian Henchy was by far my favorite teacher at CI. Not only did she effectively teach the art of public speaking, but she was also very willing to help outside of the classroom as well. I was extremely satisfied with this class and this professor!

This can be a difficult class for many, but Vivian understands that you can get nervous speaking in front of people and gives you all the tools you'll need to overcome the fear. She expects you to participate in discussions in order to create a friendly environment so you don't freak during your speeches. I would take another class with her anytime

Fun teacher. Class is not as easy as some of the other teachers who may teach the class. She expects a lot out of her students. Tough grader but fair. Her class is super hard with bunch of papers, tests, and presentations. I had a 10 page observation paper, 5 self analysis and a 20 page cultural paper. On top of 3 presentation and a midterm plus final. Let me repeat her midterm and finals are super unclear and detailed. Work so hard for a C or at most a B is not worth it.

Vivian is a wonderful person. She truly cares about her students and challenges them. I was very worried I would not pass this class but you have to work hard and believe you can do it because in the end it is totally worth it. She is tough and expects hard work. She puts in effort and leaves comments to help you.

Best professor I have taken at CSUCI! She is very passionate about the topic and really wants you to grasp the concepts. Don't expect to slack off in this class, because she does want you to work hard. Very rarely do I have great things to say about a professor who assigns a lot of work, but I have benefited greatly from this class!

Her work load is very heavy, But, I have learned so much that It was worth it! She's very nice and her lectures are interesting! The only con is the huge 12pg paper at the end!

Vivian is a wonderful professor, but the work load is incredibly heavy. The only bad thing about this class is the 12 page research paper (that will prob end up being about 20 pgs.) and her exams. Vivian, PLEASE give detailed study guides. There would be a 75% increase of exam grades if there were other instructions besides "read the book".

This class is truly one of the best you will ever take at any University, ever! We all had so much fun (yes, fun!) preparing our projects, and giving our presentations. Our class had a sense of camaraderie, and we all left this class having made friends. I know for a fact many of us looked forward to these class sessions. Vivian's awesome! ???

OK here it is. Pros: She's very passionate about the subject and wants to make class fun. Cons: EXTREMELY heavy work load. If you work AND have other classes do yourself a favor and don't bother. Its actually pretty unrealistic for her to give out so much work to people who obviously need to do other things to survive than study for her class.

Professor Henchy is passionate about the art of communication and intercultural studies. Her workload is not as excessive as others mention, but she challenges you to be a better student, as good teachers should. I took her COMM 321 last semester and another one of her courses the semester prior to that, and I would happily take another course!

Treated her 101 Comm class like an upper division course. Defenitley has a lot of expectations when it comes to the outline so make sure you follow her guidelines to a tea or you will loose a lot of points. Gives good feedback and only about 4 speeches in class the whole semester. Only one test and it's the final (based off the readings).

She is amazing... If you want to learn ... Take Professor Henchy.. She loves her students.. Always willing to help.... I'm taking all my courses from her.

One of the best professors I have ever had! Her lectures are incredible and spark a lot of discussion that helps better understand the terms and concepts. Her assignments help tie in the material to the real world. THE TEXT BOOK IS YOUR BIBLE FOR THE CLASS. Has high expectations but is very clear about what she wants and makes herself available.

She is very entertaining. You will always be interested in what she is saying and gets to know all of her students names. She cares about attendance but is not picky about tardiness but it is better to always be on time because there are reading quizzes in the beginning of class. She started to let us use notes on her quizzes though

Yes, her class is tough. Yes, there is a time heavy paper. However, I have gained so much from this class and have expanded my knowledge immensely. The "hard" paper was time consuming, but upon completion I got much more out of the paper than a grade. I am a much more confident student now. Her lectures are fun and she teaches in a passionate tone.

Vivian is an outstanding professor. She is extremely passionate and she also does everything in her power to help you pass the class. There are no surprises and she puts a lot of time and effort into her grading and lecture presentations. WARNING: this class is extremely content and work heavy. Be prepared to put a lot of effort into this class.

Professor Henchy is as GEM. If you have any interest in culture or comm and are willing to work hard I recommend her 100%. Honestly, her class is challenging and some assignments are brutal, but you want to do the work because she's worth it. Henchy dedicates her time and energy to help you succeed AND the class is fun as hell!

She is hilarious and amazing! She really cares about her students and although her assignments may be over bearing, you learn ALOT at the end of it. She makes lectures funny and doesn't just read off slides but interacts and writes all over the board. Participation is key, she loves your input! Put in the work and you will get a good grade.

I can honestly say she is one of the best professors I've had. I'm not even a comm major and I actually had a great time overall. She engages with her students during her lecture which makes class go by fast so you'll never be bored. Her projects are not bad just make sure not to procrastinate and ask her for help she's so nice.

Vivian is a wonderful communications teacher., She is sweet in class and easily approachable. Don't worry if you're a shy person in this class as long as you show up thats your participation, worst thing shy people have to do is present for the final. Would take more communications classes with her for sure :)

Dr. Henchy is amazing! She tells you exactly what she wants out of your work. She really teaches the class and is extremely well organized. Definitely worth taking. She has weekly quizzes but they are ungraded, you may keep them to form a study guide for the final exam. There are 3 papers and 1 group project.

I've never had a professor who was as interested in her lectures as she was. She will push you to give your best work. If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't the class for you. She warns you of this up until the drop date. The first half of the semester is very content heavy, and the second half is mostly writing the final research paper.

Prof. Vivian is truly a gem, and one of the best professors at CI. She grades you on two presentations, two exams, a short field trip analysis, and a term paper (don't procrastinate!). Considering the COVID19 online transition, I felt like she worked very hard to accommodate her students without sacrificing quality, a tribute to how caring she is

Professor Vivian is an AMAZING professor. This is the second class I have taken with her and she has always demonstrated how much she wants students to succeed. She will definitely be there to help you if you are struggling. This class has a lot of amazing content but does require you to invest lots of time so be ready.

She's really nice and involved with her class. If you struggle with public speaking, she's very understanding and will help you or at least grade you as easy as she can. There is some reading to do during the week and a quiz by the end of it, but they're easy and simple. Hope to take another class of hers!

Professor Vivian is a very sweet woman but her class can be a little difficult. For online, you are required to have your camera on for every class and she will call you out if you seem like you are not paying attention. Her quizzes can be difficult but her presentations and projects allow creative freedom.

I had never taken a public speaking class and I do tend to stutter a lot but this class really helped me improve and learn. Professor Henchy was very helpful, responded very quickly to any questions, and gave great feedback so you can know what to improve on for the next speech. While it is a difficult class, just put in the work and you'll pass.

I had prof Henchy for two comm classes and found her to be a solid instructor. She does assign several major papers through the semester, but gives clear expectations for what she wants and provides a template. She wants her students to succeed and makes class pleasant. Very accessible in office hours. Only downside is cameras must be on for Zoom.

I had her last year and I liked her! She explains everything really well about what she expects from her students. I rated her a 4.0 because a few times she gave me 1-2 points off on assignments without an explanation so I couldn't fix the mistakes she found... But she was very understanding and responded to emails quickly!

I really enjoyed Professor Henchy which is why I am very surprised at some of the other reviews. She has always been so kind and interested in our lives outside of class. She is very understanding, warm, and I loved the content and think it will actually help me with my daily life.

Amazing lectures. I will carry her class with me forever. A lot of homework that is graded harshly, and lots of readings needed for the 4 quizzes. No midterm or final, but two major papers (6-12 pages each) that need a lot of preparation. One minor speech at the end. Take her if you're willing to put in the work.
