this class is super boring, but easy. you have homework due every week, but you can work in huge groups, so you end up doing 1 or 2 throught the semester. take this class.
Very repetitive but puts all class notes on Web CT. Class is boring and there is homework every week but it's given way ahead of time.
Dont take class with this lady. She gives endless HW. She is very repetitive and she makes the class boring....................... Take it with another professor.
This class was a breeze! The "homework"- while it was due once a week- was very easy. The tests are straight forward- multiple choice, T/F. If you have questions, ask her either before/after class and you will get a much better response from her! Take her and enjoy the A!
Easy class! She is very nice but very boring. There is no attendance policy and she post notes and key terms to study on web ct. She also gives a review before each test which helps a lot. The homework is easy and you get credit just for doing it.
Kirby's class is pretty easy. She repeats herself a lot so you have plenty of chances to learn the material. It's possible to get really bored during her lectures because of that. The homework is easy and she provides notes on WebCT. If you just go to class and listen you'll have no problems whatsoever.
Kirby is crazy. Bottom line. Repeats herself constantly. Homework is easy. Tests can be a little hard, so study. Lectures are boring because you find yourself taking notes on the same material you did the past two classes. Overall, pay attention, take notes, do your homework- and you'll be fine.
Reading the books and actually going to class will get you an A. Kirby is very nice and she reviews right before every test which is very helpful.
She is by far the most biased teacher I have ever met, but itis easy to get an A in her class. Don't waste time reading the book, take detailed notes and you will do well on the tests. She cannot portray history or political issues in an accurate manner, she won't answer your questions if it doesn't go along with what she wants students to think.
She is BORING! The book is useless, but her stuff on WebCTVista is great. She repeats stuff endlessly! Tests are not hard because she gives a study guide which completly covers it. She doesn't really read your papers or answer questions. She is otherwise nice and easy grader, but she takes forever to post grades.
You don’t really learn anything in her class because tests and quizzes are open note. I got an A, and I would not show up to class 2 weeks straight. You have to be pretty stupid to get anything less than a B.
This economics overview class was incredibly boring to the point that I had to walk out almost half the time. When I did stay I would fall asleep, and on one occasion started snoring so loudly that another kid woke me up. I made a 'B' though so take it for what it's worth.
So repetitive. I can't even stand to go most times. She seems nice though. Just use the study guides for tests and you'll be fine.
She's a very nice lady but this class was SO BORING!!! I wouldn't recommend her at all. She's the type of teacher that is bad but you feel sorry for her cause she's so sweet. She repeats everything 50 million times and she give a billion unnecessary examples for everything. I would take someone else if you can. 4 Test and current events every week.
Very boring, but its college so get over it. She spends about the first half of each class going over the last half of the previous class. can go over her alloted time by a good 20-30 min. I would not recommend this teacher
Dr. Kirby is so sweet! Her class is really easy, she gives reviews right before the tests, and she dresses really cute all the time (always in business attire). She is also very knowledgable in economics and has lots of stories from her experiences.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER. THIS LADY KNOWS HER STUFF, HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE THEORY AND THE APPLICATION IN REAL WORLD. I'VE LEARNED WITH HER MORE STUFF THAN WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN YEARS... BEST AT KSU. PEOPLE THAT DON'T IGNORANT OF REAL WORL ECON MIGHT FEEL BORED...
Good teacher. She's really nice and tries to help you as much as possible. Paragraph/ newspaper article due each week and about 4 tests. Pay attention and take notes and you should do well.
BORINGGGGG.... tests are nothing from the notes or book.
I hated economics with a passion before this class and although I still don't like it I survived it and learned a couple things in Kirby's class. Her lectures are boring but what she writes on the board is what is on the test. Study guides are helpful and she always does at least a 30 minute review before each test (on test day) that helps alot.
So painfully boring, but super easy. Everything she reviews before the tests will be on the tests, so show up for the reviews. I wouldn't waste my money on the text book--just use the materials she puts on WebCT.
TAKE HER IF YOU WANT EASY A OR B! Listen the CLASS IS BORING BUT EASY. JUST GO TO CLASS and TAKE NOTES, plus read ALL notes on WEBCT and COMPLETE the STUDY GUIDES! U WILL GET AN A! Her HOMEWORK s so EASY and she always gives 100 on them if you just DO IT! SO SO EASY just GO TO CLASS TAKE NOTES AND DO STUDY GUIDE! EASY but VERY BORING. JUST TAKE HER
Pretty easy class. She never takes attendance and puts everything on WebCT. If you just go by her study guides and study all her postings well, you should get good grades. I would recommend.
Professor Kirby's class is extremely easy! She is the sweetest lady ever but has no sense of time! If you like getting out of class early, you wont! Other than that...she posts everything on vista and tests are straight from the study guides! take her!
So. Boring. Difficult to pay attention in class, but if you study your notes, the WEBCT notes and do the homework it's easy to make an A.
Could hardly stay awake in this class last semester. Very boring. I'm so glad that class is over!!
This teacher is horrible!! She repeats herself over and over and rambles about pointless things. She is incredibly boring and will start a new topic five minutes before class is supposed to end. Our first test she didn't print enough copies of the test and 1/4 of the class had to wait for a good 30 minutes for her to make copies! Stay away!!!
EASIEST CLASS EVER yes boring but EASY! Weekly "current event" hw assignments that you right a paragraph about. Tests are DIRECTLY from lecture notes. GO TO CLASS. She gives study guides, USE THEM! Shes very boring and DROPS LOWEST TEST GRADE! Lazy/Ignorant ppl failed this class, and its sad.
Probably the most boring class I have ever taken in my life.. She rambles about things that are unrelated to the topic or just takes every example farther than it needs to go. If you can stay awake (which you probably can't) you will have an EASY A though.
Class is super boring and rambles forever. 10 homework assignments due every week. Don't use the book when studying for the test..its pointless, use her powerpoints instead. Tests are MC, drops your lowest. It's an easy A or a B. Take her!
Great Professor! There are times in lecture that if you just placed a frame around her face and a skyline in the background she could be a news analyst. Very informative! Doesn't penalize for missing class (which is GREAT during summer semester!) and drops your lowest test grade. Nice lady.
Attendance not manadatory.A is possible w/ minimal attendance. Every Monday 1/2 pg hw over assigned country. Her practice tests are the exam quesitons. WEBCT is scattered and disorganized. Dont buy the book. Lowest test dropped except for the last one (not comprehensive final just a regular test but it cant be dropped) Easy A.
Very easy class!! 80% of test questions come from WebCT 20% of test questions come from common knowledge or lecture. No attendance taking. Don't buy the books. 4 tests, lowest non-final test score is dropped. Very thorough teacher, but rambles a little bit. Overall, a little boring but very interesting at points. Take this instructor!! :-)
attendance is taken every class. 50-100 diff links on her cluttered webct. rambles forever. occasionally talks longer than class period. class should be a social science class rather than an econ class. easy A or B without paying attention. bring something else to do otherwise youll fall asleep.
Not my favorite teacher. The 2nd day of class after 3 different students had raised their hand and were ignored, someone yelled out thier question, and she finally answered it. After that, the class just started asking questions w/o raising their hand. She is knowledgeable, but boring and gives 20 examples for the most basic concepts. Easy tests!
This teacher is awesome! If you don't get an A, you're a moron because she spoon feeds you everything. If you are one of those students that likes to blab in class just to hear your own voice, she will shoot you down, which is hilarious to the rest of us that get annoyed by you people. DON'T buy the book, you don't need it if you come to class.
This class is soooo boring. Do not buy textbooks, and yes you can skip class. Teacher ignores ALL questions, which defeats the point of being in college and not high school. Drop her class!
She will give lecture the entire time and doesnt like a lot of questions. If you can answer the study guide questions, you can ace the test. She drones on about useless things much of the time, but is pleasant enough. Just know your study guide and you will be ok.
Wonderful! Explains everything in great detail! The test is not a suprise! I would and have recommended her. Economics is boring in general, but she teaches it very well, and knows how to explain the material to a tee
If you read the material and actually refrence all of the documants and videos she posts the class will be an easy A, I slacked off and didn't even know what she was talking about all semester and still ended u with a B. Not that hard just really boring and repetitive, but it may have been the subject matter.
Sweetest most understanding lady. I turned in my final paper three days late with no excuse and she says, "oh that's fine honey, i won't take any points off."
I didn't go to class for a month and a half (between 2nd and 3rd test), and still made an A in the class. She rambles on and on about the littlest details, things that don't matter, but if you are somewhat intelligent you should do well in the class. DO NOT buy the book - I had to return mine a few weeks into the class. Easiest class I've ever!
Had her for econ. She does tend to ramble on about stuff that has nothing to do with the class. She was really nice and man I thought she was hot for an older lady. i hardly went to class and got a B.
She is an okay teacher. Reads directly from powerpoints. Has you read thousands of pages of different articles on webct. I feel as though she thinks this is the only class that I am taking and have time to read allllll that stuff. TONS of reading but other than that fairly decent teacher.
Does'nt answer emails. Class is boring. Unorganized class, website, assignments. Does not have a set schedule, impossible to know what is due more than a week or so in advance. Lots of group project stuff, with little warning of assignment and due date.
Good lectures, throws in life examples and explains any math. Easy tests. She repeats material a bit, but its nice if you need to miss a day of class. Overall a excellent teacher and would take her again.
Lectures can be boring at times, and the work load a little much but doable. All in all easy class, nice lady.
Loves the subject, but no one else seems to. No more than 1/4 of the class was ever there except on test days. EASY tests with front/back cheat sheet and prepared 1-page essay. She gives all of the project info on Vista, you just have to do it. If 90% of the class does the teacher evaluation everyone gets 3 pts!
She's very disorganized. She's never on time. She rambles on about the dumbest things. She will lecture about the same things from the previous day. I got a B+ but it was no thanks to her. She says one thing and does another. I wouldn't recommend her.
This teacher is really passionate about Econ, but its kind of sad because only like a fourth of the students ever show up for lecture. Her tests are really easy and she is really nice and she will help you if you approach her with a question. Overall it's an easy A, however the lectures are really dull and the Vista page is a mess!
She was a nice lady, but repeated lectures CONSTANTLY! About 1/4 of the class came to lectures. One test is online. Offered extra credit at the end of the semester. Wasn't my favorite teacher, and I wouldn't recommend her. I felt like I didn't get anything out of her class, even though I got an A.
I dont know where all of these negative comments are coming from. If you have to take Econ 1100 TAKE KIRBY!! She is not that interesting but I can bet you will get an A or a B! She is an extremely nice lady!! TAKE HER!
I know more about Economics now than I did before. Professor Kirby is very knowledgable about the subject. She makes sure that students get the concepts of economics. I can now apply the tools she implemented during the course. I love her attire. Business!
Econ 1101 is not a fun class, but it's a requirement, so you might as well take Kirby 'cause she's easy. You don't need a textbook and there's no attendance policy, which is pretty awesome. The final is mandatory, but she'll drop the lowest grade of the prior 3 tests.
Really boring class, but prof. Kirby is genuinely kind and helpful. I didn't buy any of the books and studied minimally for every test and still made an A. She is really sweet, and although she is a bit scattered she really knows her stuff.
I am a good student, work hard, have excellent grades, don't have problems with professors or the school. Some Professors I have not liked because of different points of view or teaching styles that do not match my learning style. I had never used this website; however, this time I feel that is my duty to tell you STAY AWAY FROM PROF. KIRBY!
The class was easy for me so I actually stopped going and boy, did that make her mad. She is not happy knowing a student can do well without hearing her lectures. All the notes are online and she posts a study guide for every test. If you do the study guide you will do fine, class is pointless but the books are necessary.
She is the best.ppl talk bad about her cause she really cares that u learn something extremely sweet, very easy exams and u can drop the lowest. genuinely kind, she let me use her book to study she doesn't take attendance if you don't want to attend then don't ask her questions. but very helpful and understanding to sum up this class is an EASY A+
Definitely an easy course. Attendance not required. Lowest of 3 test scores dropped, final exam mandatory. Study guides for each test with answers easily found in material she has online. Attending lectures made it even easier. Her lectures can drag on a bit, but they aren't horrible. Overall, a good class.
She's a nice lady and has a real interest in econ. I hate econ because its just boring to me, but she kinda made it interesting. She doesn't care about attendance and puts notes online. Her tests come straight from study guides and you get to drop the lowest test grade. One test was online. It was a pretty easy class. I would take her.
Ive had dozens of professors so far and this is the first one that is truly awful. She doesn't allow anyone to ask questions or comment on her narrow-minded opinions! If you do get your point of view expressed, it'll be shot down instantly regardless. Easy A with exam crib sheets and study guides, but you'll be totally miserable along the way.
OMG... this class is amazing, but I must warn you there is a lot of work involved. I've never had a professor that cared so much about the students, and she will go out of her way to help you. the book is a must have. JK I <3 sarcasm!!!!
Prof Kirby is the Best. She Knows the materials that she teaches inside out. She made me get real interest in Economics. She is very clear and in-depth on her lectures. If you have an interest in Economics She is a must take Professor. Just come to class take notes and read her power points & study guides and you will do just fine.
Do not take her for any other Economics class above 1100. Her lectures are monotonous and repeating: we spent 3 lectures talking about a simple economic growth model that all the students likely understood already. Her exams require you to write essays that have to be completely in-depth (read: explaining things to toddlers) for full credit.
Show up for class. Take good notes. Prepare for tests with study guides she posts on vista and you're golden. She is a total supply-side policy wonk, but she really seems to care about her students and you can tell she enjoys teaching the class. I would take her again for sure!
She's pretty easy if you prepare for the tests using the study guides she posts on vista. She will bore you to death in class though.
SOOO Boring. But no attendance and if you just study a little for each test its a pretty easy class. Your grade is an average of your test scores. There are 4 total and the lowest is dropped.
As others have said, don't take her beyond econ 1000 unless you want an absolutely worthless elective A. Very very easy course with a professor who not only expects little to nothing out of students, but also doesn't allow them to discuss the material or disagree with her. Regurgitation course when the material is clearly subjective
She is a very nice lady, genuinely cares about students. While her class was fairly easy it was a nightmare trying to navigate her labyrinth of folders on vista to find the information I actually needed, she may benefit from some organizational skills. Other than that she is very knowledgeable, a little hard to follow, but easy A.
Nice lady, but lectures were boring. Heavy user of WebCT Vista, but her page is very disorganized.
Great Teacher.. Helps you understand and always touches on previous days lecture to make sure you follow what she is teaching..I would take her again anytime for any Econ Class.. She's Great Take her..
I would not recommend Kirby at all. Nothing you talk about in class is relevant to the assignments due. She rambles on and does not encourage class participation. If you ask a question, she will act like you are an idiot for asking when really I'm just not sure if she knows the answer. not super hard but not easy enough to take
Dr. Kirby is a great teacher. Attendance is not required but I recommend it. This class is an easy A if you attend and take good notes. Most of her test question come straight from her lectures. I used the book to look up some vocabulary but that was about it. I liked how she always reviewed the previous days lecture. SHE GRADES FAIRLY.
sweetest lady ever but this class is extremely boring.i feel awful for saying this but this class is not worth going to!there were 2 online tests and 2 in class.only went to class on test days and managed to get a b in the class. take it if you just need to get it out of the way and you wont learn anything from this class.
This class was brutal because Kirby made it brutal. Her lectures are EXTREMELY BORING, which is sad because Economic Development is such an interesting subject. The team country paper was easy but tedious. Cover all the parts she wants and you'll get an A on it. Tests are all insanely easy. Easy A class but very frustrating to deal with.
She is a nice lady and is extremely smart. She actually knows what she is talking about but her lectures are extremely boring. She starts on time and ends on time...nothing in between. She doesn't really care for class participation in fact she really does all of the talking...all the time. Nice lady-kill joy though.
So grateful attendance wasn't mandatory. She's nice, but dull - makes no effort at all to interest students in the material. First test is a breeze, but they get harder after that.
"Global Econ." is a lie. Only Europe and the USA are discussed though the syllabus and textbook detail much more. Weeks spent lecturing on post-WWII Britain and multiple days on the Reagan era. She's very nice, but she hasn't moved into the 21st century in teaching and she teaches the same material for days on end. A VERY easy A.
I don't know why anyone would have a difficult time in 1101. I made 100 on the first test, a 98 on the second and then didn't go to class again for two and a half months. Looked at the study guide the night before the final, made a 90 on the exam, 96 in the class. EASY A.
Easiest class ever. Take notes study a little bit and you will get an A.
if you're taking econ 1101, TAKE KIRBY! There are 4 tests(1 regular, 2 online, and the final). Lowest is dropped. Attendance not mandatory and she posts study guides. You can get away with not getting the book too. This is the definitely the EASIEST A you will get at KSU!!! Ive had high school classes that were harder than this
if you're taking econ 1101, TAKE KIRBY!! There are 4 tests(1 regular, 2 online, and the final) lowest is dropped. Attendance isnt mandatory and she posts study guides. You can get away with not getting the book too. This is definitely the EASIEST A you will ever get at KSU!! Ive had high school classes that were harder than this
Not clear with directions what so ever. changes rule often without notice. not understanding of individual situations. monotone and constant incomplete sentences when lecturing
She will most likely change her attendance policy after poor attendance with our class, but this is by far the easiest class I've taken at KSU thus far. I got an A and rarely attended. Exams were online and straight from the study guide, answers in the book. I would definitely recommend her if you want an easy A.
She explained things very well. She was very helpful if you needed her.
She is honestly, the BEST teacher I have ever had. I had her for ECON 1100! I did not like economics until I had her as a teacher! Her tests are easy they are straight from her notes, and she is always willing to help you. She makes jokes in class, and makes economics as interesting as possible! If you can get any ECON teacher TAKE KIRBY!!!
1 group country paper worth 20% so find a good group, Class Participation(mainly attendance and discussion board posts)worth 25%, Test 1 and 2 worth 20% each. Test three is optional if you are ok with your group paper grade(she will make it count for this test) She allows cheat sheet for tests. Make sure you go to class bc she takes attendance.
Took summer class. Only 3 tests and that's IT: 1st was in-class, 2nd was online, 3rd was the final and it was in-class. Attendance not mandatory...if she notices a lot of people missing she'll pass out a paper for the people who are there and reward them. Never starts late, never ends early. Read from books often - she tends to complicate things.
There were 3 tests. No Homework.YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOKS. She supplies power points, supplemental handouts for text,& the all study guides on Vista. She does not take attendance, randomly took it 5 times & gave us extra points at the end of the semester.tests are NON CUMULATIVE! Sign up for her-you'll be glad you did
She gets boring at times, but overall it's a good class. 3 tests, she provides study guides, and there were NO TRICK QUESTIONS. Go to class, though! Even if you fall asleep, she passes a sign up sheet on random days and adds a whole point to your final grade if you're there all the time.
Sincerely concerned with the students' well-being. She is very helpful to those seeking help, and truly goes above and beyond to try to be clear and helpful. That being said, she has a tendency to over explain simple concepts, and the class was(to me) sickeningly easy. If you're seeking a challenge, you may be disappointed, but great for an easy A.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. I went to class MAYBE 8 or 9 times and got an A.
Fairly easy class. Total of 4 exams. First exam in class...rest are online. Lectures are tad bit boring. Study guides are available as well as practice tests online. Textbook not required but Commanding Heights book helped a lot. Attendance not mandatory but she will randomly pass a sign in around for 1 point. No homework or papers.
I enjoyed her 8 am class and found it lively. I’ve never taken ECON so I was nervous. There were 4 exams and she gives you a helpful, detailed study guide for each test. She drops what she does not cover. I found her focused and does not encourage questions in the 50minute class. I would recommend her and yes I see the world differently. TAKE.
Kirby is a wonderful professor. She definitely helps you understand econ better. All of her test are easy. Total of 4 grades which are all test and she drops the lowest one. 2 are online. Class is not mandatory. Most notes online. She also brings food to class to share!
I just finished this class today and made an A. I didn't buy the book but I'm sure it would help you a little more on the tests. We took three tests, two of them were online, and then the final. She takes The two highest grades of the three tests, and then your final test grade to get your final class grade. Class was boring at times.
Do NOT ask questions in her class, or you'll regret it!
Loved her class! I didn't really like econ going into it but she made the test easy enough to where you could understand it. Study the practice tests, some of the same questions will be asked on the test. Take her for an easy A.
She is extremely well versed. I am not remotely interested in econ but with a little studying and reading you should get an A with little effort. She puts up many notes and study guides
Tends to simply lecture. Don't ask a question, unless you're ready for an unclear answer or a repetition of what she's already said. Naturally, if you study the material getting and A is easy. I read the textbooks only and got an A on my quizzes so missing class isn't that much of a big deal except for announcements(which are still posted on D2L)
Her lectures are extremely boring and she can be very repetitive. But overall it is a good class.
She's very clear an explains things with many examples and in different ways. It can get repetitive, but it made it much easier to understand. If you show up to class, do the study guides, and look over the notes and powerpoints, you can easily make an A. Study guides are also posted way ahead of time, giving you plenty of time to do it.
LOVE HER TAKE HER SOOO EASY AND COOL! SHE GIVES STUDY GUIDES AND MAKES EVERYTHING SO CLEAR!! AND SHE BRINGS SNACKS TO CLASS LOVE HER!!
I would recommend taking her if you don't care about econ and just need to get some gen ed credits taken care of due the easiness and light work load. I had a 3-hour lecture on fridays that were just TERRIBLE to sit through, so I attended class only for 1st and final exam (other 2 exams were online) for a total of about 7 times and earned an A.
She is extremely easy. She uses study guides and her tests are simple. My only complaint is she tends to insert her political opinions into the lectures, which is inappropriate.
Took 4 tests. Dropped one. First one in class, second two online and final in class. Class is pretty boring but she is very easy to understand and there are no trick questions on exams. Gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Easy A.
She is very easy. Class can be hard to sit through sometimes, but she is very clear in what she is teaching and material is not hard at all. don't buy either book as long as you take good notes.. didn't open either one of them and made a high A
TAKE HER. Gives you awesome study guides, and you won't even have to open the book if you attend class. She is easily one of the nicest professors I've ever met, and she obviously wants us all to do well. All we have is 4 tests. In case you missed it the first time, TAKE HER.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is mean when you ask questions, gives out inaccurate information about her tests, poorly organized, repeats herself ALL THE TIME, and has horrible time management. She is unresponsive to emails. And there are 4 different schedules for the same class, none of which she follows and all of which have different reading info.
TAKE HER! easy a. don't buy the textbook; it's useless. it's a boring class (it's econ, dude), but it's super easy to ace. attendance isn't mandatory. i missed quite a few; still got an a. drops your lowest test (x the final) and gives you study guides with the answers basically already on it. use that, take the tests, get an a. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT
Pretty easy class. 4 tests and she drops the lowest(except for final), 2 are on online. The books are not worth buying. Attending her lectures are about as boring as it gets. Overall though an easy A if you put a little effort
Boring class and she does tend to get off topic and spend a good chunk of the class off topic. She isn't great about answering emails so I'd go to her office. She is an easy teacher and she is a nice person but she is also kind of in your face with her political views.
Show up to class and this will be the easiest college class you will take! Tests straight from study guide. Don't even really have to take notes just pay attention! All tests very easy!
Pretty easy. First test is in the classroom and al the other tests are online. The final is in the classroom as well. She drops the lowest test grade. Just complete the study guides and go over them before the tests and you'll be fine. I would take her if you have the chance.
Kirby does a great job and gives great examples to help understanding of Economics easy. There are four tests. Three midterms (unit tests) and a final. All three test except for the first test are online. She takes your lowest midterm and replaces it with your final test grade. Her test have no trick questions and easy. It helps going to class.
This is a no brainer choice for econ 1100. Kirby is brilliant, yet fair. Class attendance is not really mandatory, but it saves having to study too much before the tests. Grade solely depends upon your best 3 of 4 exams. 2 of which are online. Take this class!
Take the class with anther professor. Do not ask questions or she'll basically call you stupid. We had a group project and what she actually wanted in the group project did not match up with the rubric she gave us.
Her instructions were vague and useless, there's a group project, and she cannot use time wisely. Google is a better and more engaging teacher. Reading in the class is a must, but if you read the book you will know more about the topic than her.
She is so boring! She repeats herself non-stop! She likes the subject but I had a hard time staying awake in her class. Her tests are awful. Repeated questions, study guides don't help you on the test much and honestly i could not figure out how to study for her class. She doesn't go by the book, she doesn't go by the study guide. She is just awful
AVOID!! SHE IS RUDE AND DOES NOT LIKE BEING ASKED QUESTIONS. SHE TAKES CENTURIES TO RESPOND TO EMAILS. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF. SHE IS REPETITIVE AND LECTURES ARE IRRELEVANT TO THE BOOK. THE PRACTICE QUIZZES FOR EXAMS ARE 400 QUESTIONS LONG SO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHAT WILL BE ON THE TESTS.
Overall, professor Kirby is not bad. She is VERY repetitive and gives about 100 unnecessary examples. However, her tests are quite easy, 2/4 of them online (and study guides are given). She also gives extra credit opportunities. She's not TERRIBLY boring, but not too interesting either. Relatively easy grade.
Professor Kirby is wonderful! She is pleasent to listen to, her examples actually help to clarify what she is talking about, and her notes are excellent. If you go to class, pay attention (which is easy), and do the study guides then you will do great. The only way to not do well in this class is if you simply don't try. I definitely recommend her
nice lady, hard professor. Her exams are challenging. Because people were making fun of her easy exams, she made her exam more challenging. The average class grade was a 58%. if you take her, study, study and study. Take a lot of notes.
The class itself isn't hard, but she makes it hard. Ask any question and she will act like you're stupid and contradict herself in the process. Her exams are ridiculous because half the stuff on it has really tricky wording or has nothing to do with what we learned in class or in the book. Do yourself a favor, take this class with someone else.
This professor made an easy class extremely hard. Study guides and practice quizzes are provided but not helpful for the tests/quizzes . On top of that thus class very was boring. Save your GPA. Take another professor, it's for your own good.
Lectures are extremely boring and not helpful.(Which is why I don't go) Practice tests are not helpful. Tests don't always have all the material covered in lecture. They are online and it is easier to take them with a group. Optional hwk assignments are only worth one extra point.
kirby gives assignments for extra credit but there is no homework. Do not buy the book or commanding heights book just come to class and listen and try to take notes. She doesn't use power points she just writes on the board, shes boring and her lectures are all over the place. Two test are online 2 are in class. If don't fall asleep you're fine.
Class was interesting. If you take good notes you will do really well.
She's a great teacher. Gives great examples and the practice questions are really helpful for the tests. There's optional homework and only 4 tests, two of which are online. Doesn't really encourage people asking questions and just shoos you away when you do. Just go by good lecture notes and what's posted on d2l and you'll get an A.
I missed more classes than I went to. She wants you to buy two books, but you don't have to have either. When I was in class, she droned. Even if you liked economics, I could not imagine anyone thoroughly enjoying her. She does not try to trick you with the tests. All are multiple choice and take no more than 30 minutes if you triple-check. Easy.
Have gone to class maybe one time and I have an A. Super easy tests, 2 are online and she drops the lowest one. and then everyone has to take the final. Offers a lot of extra credit as well and is nice. Don't buy the books. Easy A
Look... she is NO DOUBT the most boring teacher ever!!! i went to 4 classes and always left because she was so boring. Rambles on about everything and never gets to the point about test material. 2 online test 2 in class. Although she is boring the class is super easy. DONT BUY THE BOOK.
If you are someone who is empathetic and kind, you should avoid her class at all costs. She will anger you with her rhetoric against people she deems unfit to be living in the United States. It is disgraceful that someone with such backward ideas is being allowed to teach at a state university.
She made Econ SO SO SO easy. TAKE HER TAKE HER! Her tests are exactly like the study guides and two of them are online tests. I barely went to class and made an easy A. I would advise you to get the book though, it makes doing the study guides easy.
Very passionate about what she teaches which is clearly seen in her lectures she uses many anecdotes to drive home concepts. Very happy that I took her Economics class and I would take other classes with her.
Love her! She's fantastic at explaining things, but be sure to take good notes! Don't skip too many classes, but one or two is fine. The textbooks aren't necessary, but having them by my side certainly put me at ease (*wink).
Lectures are dumb. Spends 20 minutes listing examples of really obvious stuff. Gives extra credit. Repetitive.
Kind of repetitive, tests are easy as long as you use the provided study guide and go to class. Haven't cracked open any of the textbooks, just a waste of money - don't buy them. "Power off your electronic devices" before every class, but she's not strict on it. 8/10 Would take again.
This was my first time taking an economics course and I have been pleasantly surprised this semester. Professor Kirby is clear and willing to help. I can tell she enjoys teaching and wants her students to succeed. If I had to take another economics course, I would enjoy having her as my professor.
Prof. Kirby was amazing. She is a super understanding teacher and truly wants her students to do well and will do just about anything to make that happen. Cares about her students and it shows. Homework is optional. Other than the first test and the last test, her other 2 tests are online. She makes study guides for her tests as well. GREAT TEACHER
I would absolutely NOT recommend if you are a decent human being. She is awful and does not appreciate diversity in these United States. Beware if you are a second generation American as she has very clear ideas as who does and does not belong here...
Professor Kirby is great - super easy going and overall a sweet woman. She only has 4 tests (including the final), but drops to lowest mid-term test. She can get pretty boring if you have her at 8 or 9 AM, but she's a breeze and definitely one of the easiest classes I've taken at KSU.
Very conservative viewpoints. Very repetitive. Very disorganized.
don't skip her 4 bonus homework points, that will help you at final.
Her lectures sucked and it wasn't worth going to class. BUT, all the information you needed was posted to D2L, she also posted a study guide & disclosed that "If it wasn't on the study guide, it wasn't on the test." Only the first and last test are in class. Unless you do the HW for xtra credit, the tests are your only grades. You take initiative.
Easy class! Attendance is not mandatory or really necessary. The only thing you get graded on are three OUT of four tests, which three were online! I would take her again. Don't buy the book!!!
Are people really grading her poorly because of her political views haha? If you're get offended over little things then sure, don't take her. If you want THE EASIEST A IN YOUR LIFE ... Take her. Even if it's an 8 am. I made 100's on every test without even studying. She drops your lowest test grade. If you don't get an A you shouldn't be here.
4 test, two online and two in person. She put "practice questions"s on D2l before every test that are actually the same as the real test. Attendance is a joke, but her lectures are pretty awesome if you actually care. She drops the lowest test grade and there is extra credit for each unit. Highly recommend for an easy a.
Two online tests, two in class and she drops the lowest of the 1st three. Very boring and is not helpful. She rants about how "fast food workers" don't deserve more money and has a very conservative stance. Easy A
Tiring, droning, unengaging prof. She fits in small, inaccurate history lessons as she teaches, & quietly pushes a conservative agenda. If you can stay awake long enough to listen to her, fact check her. When she's not making massive generalizations, a lot of the non-econ things she says aren't true. Her tests are easy & straight forward.
She's not terrible, but she isn't great either. She definitely has a conservative view, which is a breath of fresh air. Tests are easy. Reading isn't really required. She's just boring and not helpful when you ask her a question. Overall, if you listen to some of her lectures and skim over the book, you'll pass
She is a good teacher, but tends to use confusing language and does a fairly poor job of answering questions in class. The class consists of very long lectures, sometimes going past the ending time. However, she provides ample extra credit and drops your lowest exam grade.
If you've ever wanted to experience a boring lecture in all its glory, take Kirby! In all fairness, her class is really easy. Read the book some and attend lectures (though not mandatory). She posts study guides for tests on D2L and even has some extra credit opportunities. Some tests are on D2L. Not very tech-savvy and treats us like children.
Her lectures are quite long and her tests are quiite picky with information. Drops a test but you will need to as the material is difficult. An A is difficult to get. Too much memorization.
Can't stand this woman. No point in going to class so don't bother. 3 tests 2 of which are online, drops the lowest grade and a mandatory final. Extra credit assignments but only takes up to 6 extra points even if you get more. Practice test questions online show up on her tests. I had an A til the final and then I failed so bad I ended up with a C
She was a nice lady although, she did seem to come off as arrogant sometimes. There's four test and she drops your lowest one. She wants you to buy to books but you do not need them. All the notes and materials for test are on d2l. She does give practice test and uses most if the same questions on the real rest but changes then up some. HW optional
Could not believe how rude and arrogant Mrs. Kirby was. A student asked a question and was completely torn apart and embarrassed by mrs. Kirby in front of the whole class. She rambles about useless things that you won't be tested on. Absolutely terrible experience. Find someone else.
Professor Kirby is a wonderful professor. She makes econ easy to understand and is more than willing to help you out with anything you may need. Attendance is not mandatory, although her lectures are worth going to. Projects due each Friday, but are very easy and even enjoyable. Would take her every semester if I could. Easy B!
Grades fairly easy but all she does is talk in class. Can make an A easily as long as you pay attention. Attendance isn't mandatory but a lot of stuff she teaches in class doesn't get posted online so I would advise to show up and try not to fall asleep. She does give extra credit so take advantage of it.
Lectures were boring, and with some false facts. Most of the first half was common sense info very over explained. Take if you want an easy A, but at the expense of any amount of entertainment or enthusiasm from the professor
She talks all lecture and when you try and ask her questions gets so sassy and doesn't answer the question. It was supposed to be an easy A class but she is so difficult and sometimes rude
Easy A. Professor Kirby is a good lecturer, but I barely went to class and still made an A. Just know what's expected of you. 2 online tests, 1 in class. Some EC. The people who complain are the ones who are either lazy, or are irritated that she was conservative in her lectures. She teaches economics, so it only makes sense... take her!
Boring and very rude professor, but class is optional and not even necessary. I went to class 2/3 times a week and always sat on my phone the whole time but made a solid A. You can cheat on the tests if you want. If you have morals, just read the book and free A.
Ms Kirby teaches at a very basic level, which i needed. You can not only get an easy A, you will actually walk away understanding basic ECON
I made an A in the class however I didn't think she was a very good teacher. I never learned anything from her. She gave lectures that were dull and boring. After the lecture, a couple of times she realized that she taught us something wrong. I feel bad giving this review, but I would rather have a teacher that I could learn something from.
Going to this class will be a waste of you time which I figured after the first month. Her class became optional. Her lectures are repetitive and boring. At the beginning she says attendance is mandatory and electronics will be collected, but that was a joke. Three of the tests were at home and the final is in class. Easy A.
Four tests, the first three are all online. Coming to class is basically pointless, you don't learn much, she's also very boring and annoying to listen to. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK
Very sassy professor if you answer a question wrong. First test is in class, next two are online, and the final is in class. The in class tests are hard, but the online tests are easy. Class is repetitive and I rarely went, but she does know what she's talking about. Wouldn't suggest as top pick professor.
If you missed one of the three online test she averaged the other two to make the 3rd test grade. In my case, I would have made a higher grade in the class if I refrained from taking a test. I finished the class with an 89.39 and she wouldn't even reply to my emails. STAY AWAY if you want a professor that will actually help you.
She was okay. Didn't not explain a lot. Never got out early and often taught 5 minutes over. Would not take her again unless I had too.
She literally speaks like a word-count essay. Sometimes she would get to the end of her sentence, and I would have forgotten what she was talking about.
Rambles, too monotone, not interesting. Class was decided on 4 tests, no quizzes or extra assignments. Not very inspirational. Would recommend possibly taking her during Fall or Spring- could not handle a 2hr 45min class during the summer. Too easy to get distracted in class with all of the rambling she does.
Took in summer session. Easy class. Two online tests and two in class. Extra credit for going to class and just trying to do it.
She's very repetitive and doesn't explain things very well. When i asked a question for clarification she just made up an answer and when i tried to rebuttal she shut me down and changed the subject.
She pretty much has her lectures memorized so if youre confused, dont bother asking questions because she will just repeat word for word what she just said. Impossible to pay attention and even harder to learn. Attendance is "extra credit" but really doesnt count for much
Prof. Kirby was alright. Her lectures were awful and she basically spent the semester talking about Venezuela and that's it. Attendance isn't mandatory; "it's for her own edification". Don't buy the book!!! She gives extra credit but it's not worth it. Grade is determined by 3 test grades & any bonus points divided by 3. Really easy class overall.
I was one of the few people who actually attended every single class. I regret it. Her lectures rambled, she would reteach lessons, and she has an obsession with Venezuela. Changed test dates around because she couldn't finish lectures but eventually made all 3 online. I learned a bit from the book. She looks like Edna Mode from The Incredibles.
Three out of four tests are online. They are fairly easy. She does not explain anything at all. Don't even bother going to class. She was pretty easy, but I do not feel prepared at all.
The professor is good at explaining basic econ, but I had taken a harder course in highschool and basically tuned out every class because it was so simple. Attendance isn't necessary and the online tests are super easy. Just know your econ and you'll be okay.
Such a sweet lady!! I don't understand all of the negative posts, she is a great professor. She gives out so much bonus work that it's really easy to make a good grade. She doesn't have an attendance policy, and posts all the material online so you don't have to actually buy the book.
Prof. Kirby treated us like we were kids. She was easily the most boring lecturer I have ever had. She started as soon as she was able and monotonously talked for the entire duration. When students quit showing up, she quit posting material online and sent emails saying she was only putting material that she talked about in class on the tests. Bad.
Prof Kirby was by far the WORST professor I have ever had. She changes things up day after day and believes every student is going to cheat on tests so she punishes everyone for it. She said that our 3rd test was ONLY CHAPTER 10, but there was a lot more than that chapter.I knew chapter 10 perfectly and still made a 58. I'll be lucky if I make a C
You have the opportunity for extra credit. Attendance, not mandatory. She posts most of the lecture information on D2L. Only 3 "Quizzes" and nothing else graded. Some quizzes may be online.
Easy A. I did not go to class for more than half of the semester because lectures were extremely boring but you are only graded on 3 tests. She does not count attendance and she puts everything on D2l (including practice tests that are extremely similar to the real thing!).
She is very quiet. Lectures boring. Don't get the book, posts everything online. Class is mandatory. No homework. You are given practice tests and quizzes. She has extra credit. Only graded on tests. Avoid using group me. She wants students to use the discussion forum to communicate so she be in on the action.
She's nice! I tend to skip class even though its mandatory. A simple teacher, she offers lots of extra credit. You only have 3 main grades and it's her 3 tests. She isn't a bad teacher at all, and she tries to make the class interesting.
Only grades are 3 test plus a lot of extra credit. However the test are extremely easy, I filled out the study guide and read it over once the night before and never got less than an 86. She is pretty easy going, boring lectures, but I only went to one class a week and had others sign me in. Don't buy the book, easy A.
You have to study for this class. She doesn't really like the book so powerpoints are the way to study, as well as the online practice questions on D2L. It can be a lot of material to cover. She does however offer extra credit so be sure to do all of it. She tends to over complicate her explanations so don't hesitate to ask questions, super sassy.
Although the lectures are boring, she is a good teacher and explains things throughly. I reccomend printing out the study guides before each tests because they go along with her lectures. Only three tests. 2 extra credit options worth up to 10 points each. Easy A if you show up and take notes in class. Lecutres also on D2l
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS - I figured Econ 2200 would be another regular economics class but boy was I wrong. Mrs. Kirby is the most unorganized teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are all over the place and the materials she gives you to study for tests don't relate to anything actually on the test. Do not recommend this class to anyone
She reads directly off the powerpoints and does not interact with her students. When someone tries to ask a question, she looks at you like you're dumb for asking it and then gives you a sassy answer. She is rude and she is very unorganized. I do not recommend taking her if you can't stay awake in boring lectures.
Very unorganized. You show up one day and you learn something new, but then the next day you come in and you hear about the same topic for another 30 minutes before she starts teaching new material. She shows irrelevant things in the class and it takes up about 10 minutes when she could be teaching actual content that will be on the test.
Most unorganized class i have ever been in. you learn something new one day then she takes up over half of the next class going over that same thing word for word that she said the class before. puts things on the test that she did not go over in class once. her tests are very specific. honestly wait another semester if shes the only teacher left
Professor Kirby is a good professor for those that just want to pass ECON2200, but don't care to learn Macroeconomics. She is a very good lecturer, takes her time, reviews important items every lecture and goes extremely slow. However, she will not go any deeper than the surface in class. However, you're given every opportunity to pass this class.
Professor Kirby goes over a lecture one day then the next day will spend about the first 20 minutes of class going over the same thing again. She offers extra credit so take advantage of that. There are 3 tests, all multiple choice, and she provides a detailed study guide. I think she is a good choice for into to econ.
I had her for Econ 2100 and 1000 at the same time and it wasn't the best. She is very heavy on lectures but doesn't stay on topic, she will bounce around very quickly to random other topics. The test are extremely confusing and can be all of the answers given. My class made a test average of 55 on one test because of it.
She makes her tests crazy difficult for no reason. Gives study guides online on d2l but theyre a lot of questions and dont really help for the tests. She rambles in class and can get off topic and get carried away about economics. Dont take her if you want an easy A
If you want an easy A take Kirby. She gives penalty of extra credit that ends up being 8 points onto your final grade if you do all of it. Study the questions in the econ 1000 book, do the practice quiz she provides, and COMPLETE THE STUDY GUIDE!! If you can get past her random talks of Venezuela every class, take her!
Professor Kirby is wonderful! She is VERY knowledgeable of Economics. 3 Tests & Several Extra Credit Opportunities. Take thorough lecture notes, read the textbook when needed, complete the extra credit, fill out and learn the study guide, and complete the practice tests. And there ya have it, an Easy A!
A good class for an easy A, very nice lady as well.
The lectures are so boring, I could barely stay awake. She takes attendance every class. Don't buy the textbook, I never touched it and wasted the money on it!!!!!!! She gives study guides for all of the tests and they aren't impossible.
Dont take if you want to make a B or C in the easiest class at kennesaw. The test have nothing to do with the material. Honestly feel like the test where more history based than econ. Post powerpoints online and was the only reason i based the test.
Take this class super easy. It is not mandatory to go to class . Only 4 tests and no homework. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunity which will help with your final grade at the end. The test are a little hard, just study the study guide and you will be straight. You do not need the textbook at all, a waste of money.
Her lectures were pretty boring and towards the end of the semester its hard to pay attention, but it was a very easy class. She was super sweet and meant the best but she definitely dragged on with her lectures a bit
Vivian Kirby was a mediocre professor. Her study guides were awful which led me to score average on exams. There are only 3 exams. Take advantage of the extra credit she gives you! That can make or break your grade. She seems like she can't remember where we left off from the previous day so she repeats her lectures. I don't recommend her.
Will lecture for the ENTIRE class period, down to the second. Does some stuff on the whiteboard and the powerpoint, so attending class is a good idea. Three non-cumulative tests, posts EXTENSIVE study guides and practice for all of them. Some of the test questions are straight from the practice in the textbook. Plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Three tests with chances for extra credit. Pay attention to the study guides. For the extra credit, you do exactly what is asked and you'll get full credit.
She gives amazing lectures (albeit up to the last second) and all the notes I took had all the material covered in her tests. She will bring up online sources sometimes, and you will have to keep those in mind, but her practice tests have everything you need to know, too. She's really funny and is obviously interested in what she teaches! Love her!
As long as you put in some effort and go to class you should get an easy A. She can go on and on, but her test are a breeze if you just listen and take notes. The test are like the study guides if not easier! She has 3 tests that are not cumulative and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities.
shes a super nice person, but she only has 3 tests which make up most of your grade. she provides extra credit. she takes attendance everyday and its important to go to class because she doesnt post much on her d2l besides study guides, but those are very helpful on the test! overall, not that bad.
Takes attendance but isn't mandatory, test questions come straight from the textbook or her online practice tests, only 3 tests + extra credit. Lectures all class and gives too many examples put if you study the night before the test and memorize test questions you'll get an A
Kirby is easy but shes mad boring. She lectures for the whole class period ! Ive tried to listen but my mind just starts wondering. She takes attendance everyday. She has 3 test that arent that tough. The textbook is how i learned anything cause her lectures just werent working for me. Some of the practice questions were on the test.
I stopped going to class because it was so boring and unnecessary. Her practice problems and study guides are literally the exact same as the test questions. She is gives TONS of extra credit. She is too smart for her own good, and she makes going to class honestly something I dread every week.
Kirby's class is nonstop lecture every day. Taking notes is easy but after a few weeks I stopped because the study guides and practice questions are all you need to pass the tests. I got B's on the last two tests and I didn't go to class or use textbook. She gives lots of extra credit work that isn't hard. There are quizlets for the tests already.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had. I believe that she is knowledgeable in econ but her execution in teaching is poor. Has the most boring lectures you will ever listen to. She blamed our whole class on getting a 57 avg, when the class called her out that what was covered was minimal on the test she called us wrong when she was in the wrong
very easy for econ 1000, very very very lecture heavy, just take notes, do the practice quizzes and look over the exams and you'll pass every test. She gives multiple extra credit opportunities than really boost your grade assuming you need it.
She taught nothing and was very disorganized. Her D2L is the worst because you can literally find nothing. Sweet lady, but she just rants on and on and doesn't actually teach you. Take it ONLY if you're good at teaching yourself.
Avoid her if possible, her lectures are confusing and leave you not knowing what will be on the test. From what I got she barely covered the material on the test. Shows zero sympathy towards students. She seems smart with Econ but not good at teaching it.
Please do not take this professor. She does not care about you or your grade. I have taken her 3 times and she is not a good teacher. 3 hard tests that determine your whole grade. Please do all the extra credit (bonuses and events) because you will need them ! AVOID
She was very repetitive and and ended up extended the class a week longer than needed bc she didnt stick to her own timeline of teaching. She is a bit everywhere and doesnt follow along with chapters. Another Econ prof was concerned for our class lol
Professor Kirby was honestly boring and her lectures were boring but her class is an easy A. She gives study guides for the tests and the test will be directly from it. She also gives TONS of extra credit.
The class is easy however it is difficult to stay awake during lectures. Your grade is made up by 3 tests which can be a struggle if you aren't the best test taker like me. She gives extra credit but those assignments are typically long which isn't too worth it for not many points
Prof. Kirby is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She wanted the best for ALL of her students and offered a lot of extra credit. You will love her!
Not a good professor by any means, but if you take the (many) extra credit opportunities and use the study guides, she's an easy A. Be prepared to fall asleep during her lectures.
I self taught everything in this class. She was extremely boring and only went over one topic over the hour long class. During Covid, she was terrible as an online professor. Ignored all of my emails, unclear on test dates, and closed many of our study resources. During covid she added even more assignments for us to complete. Terrible
Lectures are incredibly boring and are only on topic for about 1/4th of the class. Anything you learn in this class you teach yourself. Prof. Kirby is a sweet lady but she just gets off topic so easily and rambles on about anything and everything other than economics. Not a very difficult class but if you're interested in learning look elsewhere.
Vivian Kirbys Microeconomics class had four tests. She gave many opportunities for bonus points that could really help your grade. She gave informative feedback on bonus assignments that could help you improve. She even made an optional comprehensive exam at the last minute to help replace your lowest test grade.
Her class is not hard. Just show up to class, look over your notes, and the questions at the end of the chapter. However, if there is any other teacher please take them. At first I didnt have a problem with her. Yes, she was boring, but that wasnt the issue. Shes super mean and doesnt trust you if you are sick.
Literally take anyone else. I stopped showing up to class because it was useless. She goes off on ridiculous tangents and you will learn more at home. Please for your own sanity, take someone else. She has three tests, provides study guides, but her lectures are awful. I taught myself everything and I got a good grade but avoid if you can.
Professor Kirbys class is not terribly hard for an online class, but she has managed to come off as rude and mean through emails and posts on d2l- when I do not even have an in person class with her. If you take her class you will do fine, but I would recommend avoiding her if you can. Shes in her own head space too much.
None of the course was taught by her. She uploaded PowerPoints and quizzes she blatantly stole from other professors. She frequently copy/pasted her quiz questions incorrectly (right answers were marked wrong) and confused important dates, then refused to fix her mistakes. Instead of humbly admitting her mistakes, she responded condescendingly...
She drops two of your lowest quiz grades. The tests are pretty easy if you look at the PowerPoints she provides. She also offers extra credit throughout the semester. Not a bad choice. I took this class online, so there was very limited interaction with the professor.
I wish I could rate her on her teaching, but she didn't teach sooooo. Good extra credit though!
Professor Kirby is super sweet she is always there to help you and will accommodate if something is wrong. She didn't teach the class but provided ample material and resources. 12 Quizzes the two lowest being dropped, 3 Tests, and 2 Extra Credit Opportunities. Read the textbook as a lot of questions are based on that and the lectures. Solid Choice.
easy A class especially if you are taking it online. if youve taken any econ class before it helps
Most boring lectures I've ever had. Only went a couple of times. None of the material is her own, not even recorded vids. She has constant issues with technology and some tests/quizzes have correct answers marked incorrect. Some extra credit was as long as projects and a few were "mandatory". Very confusing. It's an easy class but a pain.
Easy grade, worst teacher. She was never able to answer any questions, and said I need to "slow down". Quizzes were messed up right answers were marked wrong and vice versa. She doesn't know the material herself. If you want to LEARN, take another teacher. If you want an easy grade, take her. She is atrocious though. Also never responded to emails!
She's really nice but don't use quizlets to study. The questions on the quizlet will be completely wrong. Same wording for the question and the answer is worded the same as an answer on the quiz but it's wrong. Def a trap. I went to the class in person twice but studying from the book and using safe quizlets I did really well.
Take the professor if you want to get an A, quizzes are easy and so are the exams. The only thing I do not like is that she goes into the specifics of the most basic concepts in economics, which becomes so annoying.
I am not sure why she has such a low rating. She is very nice and her lectures are quite informational and will does not get side tracked. I only go to her class once a week and I am not struggling at all. Tests and quizzes all are short answer. We did not use the textbook at all , but that is your choice if you want to use it or not. TAKE HER
All she does is lectres the whole class and its really boring if you read the stuff she posts you can pass you don't have to go to class.
This class is an easy A however the teacher SUCKS at teaching. She goes so into detail about 1 term to the point where you don't know what she's talking about anymore. The best way to pass the class is to just read the textbook because trust me, her lectures BARELY help. If you actually want to retain info for this subject don't take her
If you want to actually learn something don't take her. Econ 1000 was easy since everything was online even the final but the only grades you get are 10 quizzes and 3 tests (possible 3 EC assignments). Threatened to take attendance when class thinned but never did. Not my learning style (only lectures, doesn't engage with the students) Very easy A.
If you are looking for an easy A and skip class a lot, take Kirby. I literally just read the textbook every unit and that is really all you need. I went to class the first week and knew right away It's not a class you need to attend. Lectures are pretty boring. Easy A if you read and she does a ton of extra credit.
Says you're only graded on 4 tests, but makes lots of extra assignments that are mandatory randomly during the semester. She often gets off topic in her lectures and is very difficult to pay attention to. She goes off on political tangents during class instead of teaching. This class is easy but Professor Kirby is frustrating to take from.
Prof. Kirby is a great teacher overall, although she does read straight from a PowerPoint, time to time she will break down a graph or two, she cares about her students retaining the information. She will instruct you to buy a book but it is not necessary, all quizzes and test are online, she doesn't really take attendance. Easy core class.
Her lectures aren't always the best because sometimes she gets off topic but other than that her class is easy. It's graded off of chapter quizzes and 3 tests. She also has a few extra credit opportunities. The online book is helpful to have for tests and quizzes. She also provides study guides for all the tests and quizzes.
Lectures are very boring and honestly you do not learn anything from them because she goes on and on about something and you get lost. Quizzes and tests are online with no lockdown browser or anything so you can look things up. She does have extra credits but you have to really work for them. Kind of a waste of my time but I got the credit and pass
Got to be honest, she's kind of boring. If you like sitting through an hour of her talking about literally one thing then she's your gal, but otherwise I would recommend anyone else. All the content is on d2l and the quizzes and tests were all online and you didn't need lockdown. Do the quizzes and tests, but you don't need to go to class to pass.
The whole class is based on 4 tests and like 6 extra credit assignments (1 or 2 were mandatory). They were all online and open notes/book/everything. She basically gives you all the info you need on each of the tests' study guides and has practice questions that mirror the tests. class wasn't exactly useful/necessary either.
The class is one of the easiest classes you could take in college. No lockdown browser and webcam and most the material was on socratic. Lectures arent mandatory and you dont have to pay attention in class to pass with an A
Very easy class. You take one quiz every week and all of the answers can be found online. Your final grade is the three tests you'll take and your average quiz grade. She offers a good bit of extra credit assignments too. Lectures are not mandatory or helpful. Take this class if you want an easy A, but not if you want to learn about economics.
Professor Kirby was nice and a very sweet lady but her lectures have nothing do with the actual class. She goes off topic a lot but just do the assignments and you'll pass. Would recommend for an easy A.
Honestly, no offense to her but listening to Professor Kirby is like talking to a wall most days. The class is fairly easy, just really boring. Grades with weekly quizzes (which cover stuff she never talks about), and 3 online exams. No lockdown browser. She is a sweet lady, but if you are genuinely interested in Economics take someone else.
Professor Kirby isn't a bad professor, but the lectures are incredibly boring. She doesn't attempt to make the class interesting. You aren't required to attend. Majority of the quizzes she has reused and found online. There are several options to do extra credit, and two of the "extra credit" assignments are mandatory.
Her lectures were uninformative and boring except for the right-wing political rants she went on through class. She claimed the liberal media was hiding information about Mexicans flooding the border.... In an economics lecture. I stopped going because of the political rants. Class is super easy though. Everything's on quizlet. No homework.
Easy A for econ. Entire grade is just four tests, all online no lockdown. Did not need to buy the book.
She just isn't a good professor; class is confusing, I could sit though an entire class and learn absolutely nothing.
Easy A
The class was supposed to be easy, but I found some difficulties. Exams were hard, and if you want to do well you have to attend lectures. Definitely not the easy A everyone makes it out to be.
Class itself was an easy A. Most of the grading is based on the 3 exams and no proctoring on anything. However, Professor Kirby is very slow at answering emails and grading.
This class was an easy A. Very sweet lady as well.
she is not a good teacher by any means, however class is very easy. your grade consists of 3 tests with no proctoring and an in person final with sprinkles of extra credit to do throughout. her lectures are boring and uninformative. only reason i'd take again is because of how easy it was.
Kirby class is easy her lectures are very boring. This is to the point no one showed up for class. She does not use power points and just talks. The only exception using a computer is when she reads gdp from countries off for 20 minutes. She start class on time but will always go over. She has a few test for the grades and has mandatory extra credit.
The sweetest and best professor ever! Easy workload and great grader.
The best professor I have ever had. She is very caring and understands that we all have a life outside of school. Easy workload.
Easy class but she is an election denier soo....Literally thinks Donald Trump is still president. Just something to keep in mind.
Really sweet lady. Tests are on D2L without lockdown. The class is an Easy A. She writes on the white board majority of class period. Her lectures were uninformative to me. She takes attendance if students completely stop showing up to class after a while. Very opinionated about politics and will try to persuade you into whatever she believes in.
The grade is four tests with extra credit. Attendance is not required. The lectures were helpful but not necessary, as she provides plenty of resources online. Tests are all online no lockdown browser. She is very knowledgeable about the subject and very organized. She tends to get on political tangents but overall a helpful and sweet professor!
Grade was based on 4 tests and extra credit points. Her lectures were rambling and d2l was messy and hard to find powerpoints or anything else. She's nice enough but her lectures are long, boring, and usually off topic. She likes to talk about her own opinions more than teach the material.
Professor Kirby is not the best option but definitely not the worst. She is VERY passionate about economics. The lectures are very boring but the class is extremely easy. She started making attendance mandatory and part of your final grade so just be ready for the longest 50 minutes of your life.
Lectures are boring, attendance policy changed mid-semester and there's several mandatory EC assignments that are very time consuming. You only get 4 points for each one which isn't an adequate amount for projects that take 3 days. She's snappy if you ask questions during lecture as if it isn't her job. She also has yet to reply to a single email.
Her lectures are very boring but the class is really easy. She takes attendance, but you just lose extra credit points for missing class. So, as long as you get good grades on the quizzes and tests it doesn't matter.
I took Kirby for 2105 and 2106. I literally counted 5 people in the class out what supposed to be 100. So, I'll let that speak for itself. Personally, most people, me included just show up to class get on the phone. My 2105 final was online, but 2106 final was in class. Some of the quizzes are due at 11:00am so pay attention to what time it is due.
boring lectures bc of lots of repetition, quite condescending, 3 tests(2 online no lockdown, final inperson)12 quizzes but only 10 count, relatively easy to get an A + only would take her again bc I know what I'm getting into, there is ex. cred. but not worth the work bc so much work for v few points, she wants to move to inperson stuff in future
If I were you I would take anyone else if you actually want to learn the material. She's just there to get a check. Her lectures are like watching paint dry. Some extra credit is mandatory which makes zero sense, she should just make them assignments. Graded on chapter quizzes and 3 tests, 2 online and a final in person.
There are going to be people in your life who you don't get along with and whose politics don't align with your own but you should still be able to separate the two when it comes to putting the work in and getting good grades. This class was so easy, just do the work and don't stare at your phone/laptop the entire time and you'll be good!
This class was so boring after she stopped attendance, I stopped attending. Unpopular opinion I kind of liked her, her fits ate and she was funny. Her teaching style is hard to understand though and it was not easy to retain information. I took her for ECON 2105 and 2106 and she graded based off the three or four test and some extra credit.
There was one in person final that was difficult and two online exams that were easy. Those three paired with an average quiz grade are the only grades for the class. Attendance was mandatory till midterms then she stopped. Lectures are long and very boring she seems nice just hard to get engaged with content given her teaching style.
She will NOT round your final grade!!!!! You could get an 89.5 and she will not round it to a 90. She never emails back and her lectures are so boring she gets off track so easily and will repeat tons of info. Thought she was nice but not anymore.
It IS possible to get an A, however you will HAVE to work for it. Her quizzes and exams are hit or miss. Also, she's an anti-vaxxer and would push her agenda in class sometimes. Just try and avoid if you can, but if you can't, find friends in the class. It will help, trust me.
Try to take anyone else if you're like me and need to engage with the content to understand it, DON'T TAKE THIS PROF. Expect long lectures on boring content. The prior reviews are also true, she is a conspiracy theorist, she interjects her opinion as fact, and ignores any negative consequence of economics that don't fit her narrative. Her fits ate.
This teacher is soOooooo boring. she only gives 4 tests, all in person, as the only grades. it's so hard to go to class and pay attention cause she speaks so slow and it's just so boring.
Vivian Kirby's lectures are long and exceptionally boring. She will consistently go over the class time and all tests are in class in person except for one. There are much easier macro economics classes you can take which will get you to an A with the same effort that it takes to get a C in Vivian's class. I would not recommend.
Don't get me wrong Professor Kirby definitely knows whats she is talking about. You can tell shes very passionate about economics but she can be rude when her students ask questions. Today for our 3rd exam out of the four, all four classes averaged a 60% grade average for that particular exam...and had to change the grading policy.
We are only graded by 4 tests for our entire grade, but she provides plenty of resources to study and review for these tests. The extra credit will help your grade immensely and I don't think I'd get an A without it. This class just requires a bit more studying but the tests are not too hard
Professor Kirby is very lecture heavy and the lectures do not help you very much on the exams. She shifted the grading scale for the class because nobody was scoring highly on her exams. She provided a little extra credit.
Don't waste your time or money on this professor. Only four tests (one online 3 in person). Lectures don't help with exams. 10+ page study guides. A few extra credit opportunities but not enough to salvage your grade. Had to change her grading scale to accommodate for all her students failing her classes. Take JC Bradbury instead.
Had to leave another review to reiterate what another person said, she is incredibly rude to her students. You ask a question about the content you're supposed to be learning? She'll snap at you and talk down to you, and will say something like "come on guys its not that hard" when she asks a question that no one knows the answer to.
Extremely lecture heavy and is BORING. Graded by 4 tests (3 in person/1 online) and they do not involve a lot about what she lectures about. Attendance is not mandatory and she sends a study guide near each test date. Study that and you will be fine. However, would highly recommend not to take this teacher.
im not a fan of econ but she made it super easy to just take the test and leave. only con is she just uses test grades and nothing else
This was one of my easier classes. She gives out a lot of extra credit which I recommend doing considering it's all quizzes through D2L. She has 4 tests. Three of these tests are in person and one of the tests is online and not lockdown browser. Overall the final was very easy and I didn't have to put much effort into the class to succeed.
She wasn't bad at all and it's not difficult to score well as long as you do the exams. She only has four exams and extra credit as assignments. She says some crazy things and talks about conspiracy theories like they're facts, sometimes. Also, I didn't touch the textbook after the first chapter, so I think you can opt out to save some money.
Course is horribly organized. Doesnt give enough information for projects. Doesnt grade in a timely manner. point value of graded assignments are not worth the time required to complete them. IE: 4 points but will take days to finish. If you have an IEP you have to hound her to give you your accommodations. Dont reply to emails in a timely manner.
Professor Kirby's ECON2105 class is manageable if you stay on top of the material. The exams are the main focus, but extra credit and resources like unstuckstudy AI can help boost your grade. Attendance is required, but the textbook is optional.
Professor Kirby's class is lecture-heavy but manageable if you put in the effort. The exams are the main graded component, so focusing on the study guides and extra credit opportunities can really help boost your grade. I found unstuckstudy ai a useful tool for preparing for the exams alongside the provided resources.
Bro I'm so glad she's retiring , I wouldn't wish this professor for anyone. She teaches poorly , her lectures are boring and have nothing to do with the study guide. Then gets mad that some people failed an exam because she expected us to know ?!?
Must say, I hated this class. It wasn't hard to score good necessarily, but her lectures are SOOOOOO BORING! I had to teach myself the material with her PowerPoints or YouTube because her lectures would put me to sleep. There are only 4 grades which are 4 tests and some extra credit. She would also go on irrelevant political tangents sometimes.
Professor Kirby is a very knowledgeable person and provides help if you need it. The grades make up only 4 tests, and only 1 was in person. No lockdown browser needed. Do not buy a textbook! Her lectures can be very dull. But if you go to the lectures and do the extra credit then you'll be fine.
She is okay overall, if you want a good grade go to the lecture and take notes, she gets political sometimes but sometimes goes off rambling. I wouldn't take her again pretty boring.
