Dr. Mozol is incredibly helpful and very fast at marking. When I took her class she was trying something new, so I don't know if it is the same layout. She released her notes and expected that you review them before class, then she just did top hat. I was skeptical and annoyed at first but it actually was a great way to learn.
Dr. Mozol is one of the best profs I've had. She gives clear lectures with lots of examples, and she gets to know almost everyone in the entire course by name. Very personable, her love of science is endearing, she knew the course material very well, and explained it in a straightforward way. I would really like to take a class with her again!
She's very interested in her students. Maybe a bit much but never had a teacher who cared so much. If you ask her stuff she'll be sure to try to answer. Cool teacher, excellent music taste (honestly)
She is very generous with giving part marks and is always willing to help students understand concepts
She is very nice and seems to care about her students, but her teaching methods are ineffective. I didn't find lectures helpful at all in learning the material, and concepts were not explained in a straightforward way. My lecture notes were useless for studying. If you get her as a prof, prepare to teach yourself most of the content.
Mozol was amazing !
Mozol seems like a very nice lady, however her lectures were very disorganized and hard to follow. I ended up teaching myself the entire course material.
Professor Mozel is one of the kindest and most respectful profs. She is always gonna be there for you and ready to help you no matter what. She will not judge you, or make you feel bad about your grades,. You might not like the way she teaches in the first lectures, but you will eventually get used to it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Dr. Mozol is passionate about chemistry. If you're new to university chem, be prepared to understand basic chemical terms and communications, otherwise you'll have a hard time to understand her explanations. Her teaching style is not so effective. She spends ample time answering students worksheets questions instead of teaching complicated concepts
Hate the way she teaches, though she is very passionate about chemistry. You will be required to read lecture notes at home as the class is a flip class, she does not teach the concepts rather goes over them.
Terrible at explaining concepts and organising the subject. Goes incredibly slow through her PowerPoints. She tries hard to help, but overcomplicates topics.
CHEM 211 is a flipped classroom style, where you have to read the notes and she just "skims over" the idea, instead of going over the notes in class. She has poor time management as she always end up being 2-3 lectures behind and rushing near the end. She teaches better in CHEM 201 than 211, because its not flipped classroom.
She tries. She really tries. In the flipped classroom, concepts often get lost. When you ask her questions her answers are all over the place and rarely actually answer the original question. The most useful part of going to lectures is finding out what the tests are going to be on. If you can't learn on your own you're gonna have a bad time.
Doesn't help, cares more about her pen color than teaching
Dr. Mozol is probably the most caring prof. you'll meet. Always there when you need her, and even if she's busy, she'll make time time for you. Her teaching style you'll either love or hate. She really helps develop your critical thinking skills without making the course too difficult. Review her worksheets before tests, helps a lot!
Dr. Mozol is only prof that takes her time to get to know you, and genuinely cares about what she's teaching and that you're learning from it. This is great if you're looking for a future reference. Also, her notes on d2l are amazing. She really wants to teach students to think for themselves, but is still always available for help.
I learned more from a 15 min youtube video than from all her lectures combined. She seems passionate about what she is teaching but her notes are very disorganized and unclear.
I came out of CHEM 201 with good marks and decided to take the honors course 213. Mozol's style of teaching did not resonate with me, often it would even confuse me but her lectures got me thinking very critically as a chemist, making me apply the skills I did learn outside of class for demos we would do in-lecture. Her passion really shines.
Dr. Mozol is really passionate about chemistry and she really encourages critical thinking. She is really nice and she knows each student by name and is super friendly. The only problem is her lectures can be a bit confusing if you are not clear on the concepts from the readings she posts.
She is definitely passionate about Chemistry and tries to make it fun for the class. Unfortunately she's not very good at explaining concepts and her notes are very messy/disorganized. At times you'll walk out of lecture feeling confused; I found it more helpful just to read the textbook.
Mozol is definitely knowledgeable and puts a ton of effort in teaching her students. However, her style of teaching and notes are very poor. Half way through the semester I stopped showing up to class because I didn't learn anything from her lectures. I was able to teach myself the entire course through the textbook.
Dr. Mozol was okay in general. She taught the material really well during the first unit but afterwards it became downhill. She tended to give us more in class questions thru Tophat when we did not know the concept yet. She was willing to help one on one during tutorials. Also, good music taste. Plays music before class starts.
She asks a lot of top hat questions which require answers we have only just learned. Like the slide before. I often left confused and went to learn the concepts on youtube. It is nice that she plays music before class.
Try avoid her. Faculty of Science generally assigns poor instructors for engineering courses. Don't let one or two bad instructor stop you from becoming an engineer. You are not the problem, they are the cancer.
Probably has some of the worst slides and lectures. They do not help at all and leave you confused after as well as being super irrelevant. Come for top hat and learn the whole course at home.
100% of this class is testing... Go to lecture and you'll get tested on TopHat instead of learning the concept, go to tutorials and surprise they are all quizzes. You will not learn in this class unless you purchase and read the ENTIRE textbook. This class leaves you constantly flustered and confused, Good luck!
Vivian is an awful professor. Her use of TopHat every second minute is unbearable. Analogies are bad, lectures are useless. Get ready to learn from the textbook.
Get ready to teach yourself from the textbook. No point of going to the lectures
Vivian Mozol is 100% incompetent. Not only are her lectures impossible to follow, most of the time the information on the slides is incorrect as well. Every component of this course is testing, including lectures and tutorials. If you are in first year engg, you won't have a choice of prof so prepare to learn from the textbook.
Dr. Vivian Mozol has been one of the worst profs I have ever had in my entire life. In a course as tough as Chem 209, the prof being any short of outstanding is unacceptable and she doesn't even come close to that mark. She makes mistakes left right and center and half the time it seems like she doesn't know what she is talking about. BEWARE!
Dr. Mozol is a nice person, but a very bad professor. Like everyone else here says, you'll have to learn the course from the textbook or videos because the lectures are not useful at all.
Dr. Vivian Mozol's introductory chemistry class is nothing short of a disaster. Oftentimes, when taking up or asking a question during a lecture, she will end up saying "It depends" before moving on, leaving most students dazed and confused. I have seen brilliant students be absolutely bewildered by her constant state of convolutedness.
In my best judgement Mozol is a very smart individual, I believe she understands what she is teaching and all the fundamentals of chemistry. HOWEVER, she has absolutely no idea how to translate this knowledge into something her students can comprehend. Do not take this course, her lectures confuse you more than they teach you. Vague, skips over
Goes over new concepts way too quick, and expects every student to read ahead before lectures. She might understand everything very well but she is horrible at teaching it to us. Asks too many TopHat questions and doesn't take the time to teach it to us prior to quizzing us on it. Her notes are don't help as much either.
Unfortunately Dr. Mozol's goes by a "test first, teach after" approach. Her lecturing style consists of loosely ad-libbing content from the very short lecture pdfs, but she cannot cohesively speak to the topics off the cuff. It is true that she has office hours, but she has difficulty explaining very simple concepts. Use the textook only.
Mozol was great! I really liked her in-class-demos, they really helped with concepts on the tests! I basically just studied off of her powerpoints, of which were quite detailed and covered everything that was tested on the midterms! Make sure you go to class becasuse she often gives midterm hints!!! Also, her dog Molly is really cute :)
Dr. Mozol isn't the best when it comes to sharing her knowledge with students. She gives brief explanations to concepts, similar to her notes, and then gives TopHat questions on it in lectures to test your understanding. She either overcomplicates concepts or makes you more confused. It's best to go to another lecture or learn from the textbook.
Oh man do I have some things I need to say about Mozol. I go to class even though I learn nothing. I just go to copy down examples to study off of. Her explanations make you go ??? And most of her answers to questions start off with a "it depends..." Side note, the one thing she is good at is making me laugh due to how abrupt and random she can be.
Dr. Mozol is an incredibly scatter-brained professor. During lectures she frequently runs on bizarre tangents, often involving Elon Musk controlling our minds, and her lecture notes fail to provide adequate detail or coherence to be useful. Mozol is a huge fan of TopHat and likes to test topics before they are taught. BUY THE TEXTBOOK AND READ IT!
Preread the textbook before lectures, makes everything much easier to digest. Quizzes get more challenging as the year goes on, exams aren't bad
Dr. Mozol is an amazing teacher he always prepares you to the best of her ability for exams. She is always avaiable after class to clarify any concepts you may not understand. She cares about students and always asks them how she could teach better. Although she may not be the best teacher she constantly puts in her best to try to teach you!
Overall not great at explaining things, and she seemed to get confused and off topic lots.
No sure how on Earth they assign someone like Mozol to teach chemistry for engineers. She is always confused and confusing at the same time. Lectures were useless but she forced us to be there due to popup graded questions.
Dr Mozol is not capable of teaching introductory chemistry. She does not have a solid enough grasp of the topics covered to provide the necessary instruction. The Lab and Tutorial components are a pure headache. She can assist you with simple questions but is unable to answer more difficult questions which highlights her weaknesses as an educator.
Excellent Prof! She explains everything clearly and is always there for you when you have questions. No matter how difficult a question might be, she can always simplify it for you! Grading was fair and lectures were awesome. I have no idea as to why other people had problems with Dr Mozol, she may not be the best prof but she gets the job done!
I hated this class! I thought Mozol explained things very poorly and didnt actually answer my questions. Most classes were spent doing unhelpful TopHats, and I felt insufficiently prepared for exams. I thought she was boring and unfocused, and I ended up having to learn most of the material by myself. She is by far the worst prof I've had yet.
There's a huge discrepancy between the material taught in class, the material on the weekly quizzes, and the material on exams. It is a guessing game as how to prepare accordingly. Mozol is disorganized. Her lectures are convoluted and error-laden. Buy the textbook (but NOT the ebook, which you can't use for open-book quizzes).
This prof is hilariously bad. Uses Tophat as an excuse to get out of teaching. Makes students get into groups and do activities that do not contribute much to what we are learning as an effort to burn off class time. Very unclear and there is a discrepancy between what gets tested/quizzed and what is being taught in class.
Very disorganized and goes off-topic very easily. Obsessed with Tophat and wastes a lot of valuable class time making us partake in activities that she deems helps us. I'd advise buying the textbook and reading ahead.
Very contradictory, she seems to have her own ways of explaining things that are not consistent with explanations found in the textbook/trusted sources. Youre own your own with her. Would high not recommend.
Honestly amazing professor. She's very clear about what needs to be shown to get full marks on quizzes/tests, very lenient marker. Minimal homework and textbook is not needed as she nails all the important details down. She's honestly excellent at explaining and teaching. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
Please don't take this class with this prof, you'll regret it.
There's no clear explanation on how grades are awarded on tests/quizzes and will try and dock marks anyway possible. Did poorly on a quiz in tutorial and need Tophat grades to replace it? Oh well too bad, all the Tophat responses are out of 1 rather than 0.5 now. Have a question that needs to be answered? The answer is "it depends".
Mozol definitely tries but doesn't quite understand how to teach students. The material isn't difficult but she confuses us more than she explains concepts which doesn't help. Get ready to read the textbook a lot. Rely on google and external sources and it will be much easier.
Vivian treats you like adults, which is why so many students criticize her. Chemistry is never straightforward with yes/no answers, so if you ask a basic question, she gives you the truth, that while we make assumptions for jr. level chem, in real life, it is not always going to work like that. She pushes you and doesn't coddle you
Hilariously bad. Tophat is the worst program a prof can use. Literally does not help AT ALL. Better have a textbook handy cause she does NOT TEACH.
Wonderful. Just. Wonderful. Top Hat might just be the best thing to happen to CHEM 209. The time wasted because of Top Hat is incredible. Instead of helping students, she loves to confuse them. If it wasn't for Top Hat marks, I would never attend a single lecture. Good Luck and Have Fun if u end up in her class.
WELP. did not want to give this teacher a 1, but the truth is the truth
Chem 209 Dear Mrs. Mozol. If you are reading this, please stop with the tophat... Mozol focuses too much on tophat instead of lectures so I feel we are wasting too much time. I just wish we spent more time learning the concepts and doing questions rather than tophat.
Awful. She's horribly bad at teaching, and gives the hardest and trickiest questions on midterms. SHE'S TRYING TO MAKE YOU DO POORLY. I have her for Chem 209
Mozol trys to make her test fun and informative, but actually does the exact opposite
Get ready to use khanacademy and the textbook because her teaching is garbage. Switch out if you can, but its still possible to get a good grade without her. Skip class? She uses TOPHAT to quiz you without teaching you since she expects you to be ahead of her teaching. She is always trying to find ways to grade you unfairly during tophat. Goodluck
Not alot to learn in this course but her tophats are bs because she doesnt even know her own answers to the questions and marks the most stupid one. Mozol must also hate the trees becuase she goes through about 50 periodic tables a day. Most of the lecture is spent asking the class questions we dont know the answer too.
She simply cannot do simple math. She is unable to add valence shells and does a whole example in class only to realize at the end that 6 valence shells plus 6 valence shells does not in fact add up to 10 valence shells. She is scatter brained and jumps around in topics too much only to confuse you more. I suggest taking this class by yourself.
She simply cannot explain the easiest concepts, even those from high school like c1v1c2v2. You are literally better off learning from the textbook. Also, her top hats are horrible, where half the time her answers are wrong. If you plan on attending her lectures for some reason you better invest in noise cancelling headphones to do other homework.
Mozol isn't a terrible person - she's very open to answering questions and helping students. She just doesn't teach well and ends up making you teach the course to yourself. 209 is about 75% Chem 30 anyway.
So here's the thing about Mozol. She's a very nice person, and if you ask her questions, she will answer them. The issue is, she doesn't answer them clearly. To be honest, she is never clear. Lectures, tutorials, tophat questions. It's all very vague and you will end up more confused than before you asked something. Just buy the textbook and read.
Mozol is the worst professor I have ever seen, I will try to make a valid argument why. Dont get me wrong she is apparently a good person, but a terrible professor , she is more of a review section honestly. She will be assuming you did just know everything already and is there to review. My tip is study as much as you can alone.
Dr. Mozol clearly knows what she's teaching, she just doesn't know how to teach. Her lectures tend to have very little cohesion or structure and she relies heavily on TopHat questions for live quizzing during class. She teaches as if everyone already knows what she's telling them. Read the textbook.
Nice person and tries her best to help. Unfortunately, her style of teaching lectures left everyone confused but her powerpoints themselves were very helpful. Read the textbook a lot and her notes and do as many past exams as possible.
Her explanations in lecture leave out a lot of important details; when you go back to look at your notes, it is often hard to understand because they lack crucial points. She starts to explain new material one lecture before the actual midterm; Dr. Mozo does not spend a lot of time explaining new material but prefers to do top hat review ):
She makes very simple concepts from high school chemistry extremely confusing and nonsensical. She purposely tries to trick her students during tophat questions, opting to go off technicalities rather than fundamental concepts. She often answers the questions wrong and confused the entire class. If you are in engineering chem I'm sorry.
Honestly, I dont understand why people are complaining so much. If you pay attention to what she says you can understand just fine, and her tophats help you keep up with the material and arent that bad. Sometimes she messes up but she always recognizes it and has a good sense of humour about it. Not the best prof ever, but nowhere near the worst
Honestly... the class i took with her was more useless than my appendix. I learnt the entire course from the textbook because every time I went to the class I almost always left more confused than when I just went over the content on my own. She treats each class like a review of the readings assigned rather than actually teaching it.
Thinks we already know more than we do and only teaches of top hat questions
She is actually a very caring and passionate prof and deserves better ratings. She is always willing to answer questions and makes an effort to be available for office hours every day. If the class tells her that we're confused, she will not move on until we understand better. Also, she uses good analogies to help you remember stuff
Mozol is clearly a caring professor and is knowledgeable but something is lacking when she teaches. The tophats are a good way to engage students, but it still is not enough. The notes she goes by are okay but not something you can use to study. Something is missing in the way she conveys or maybe the notes? but I can't put my finger on it.
Dr. Mozol is actually a very good prof, interacts with students and is always willing to answer questions.
She does not teach content like most are use to, her class is a way to practice and ensure you know which concepts to focus on. I didn't think she was going to be a good fit for me, but I actually enjoyed her teaching style. She's easy to talk to, and extremely approachable. She helped me be successful in this class.
She explains the material explicitly, and performs experiments (demos) during lectures. One of the awesomest profs ever, she has flexible office hours and willing to sit with students whenever she has time to go over what they didnt get in lecture.
Shes a very nice person and easily approachable outside of class if you need extra help. However, coming from a good Chem 30 background this class was very confusing and very difficult. You cant be successful unless practice the material a lot and read the textbook. Requires a lot of self-studying to make concepts less complicated and confusing.
She explained everything assuming you already know it. Lectures where almost purely top hats without answer explanation
I think you can really benefit from going to her lectures if you read the notes before going into them. But going into a lecture without reading anything is suicidal. She's willing to put in hours into explaining a concept to you after class. I think she might be underrated, but hey, that's just my opinion.
Too many tophats and not enough examples.
She is a wonderful person and is very passionate about Chemistry, however her lectures are so confusing. She makes every single concept way too complicated and answers questions with bizarre metaphors. She makes such an easy class a nightmare to understand. Also her notes are kind of a mess. However, I do enjoy her TopHats.
Awful prof and her style of teaching is awful as well. Class is easy especially if you did good in chem 30.
She could be confusing but still managed to get the full content across. Set up grading so that class participation in the form of TopHat would replace your lowest quiz grade. Class was curved. Professor was always available outside of class and very passionate. Not the best presenter but still very knowledgeable. I got more out of one on ones.
You have to attend class to get the Top Hat marks. Her Top Hat answers are riddled with mistakes. Take a tutorial late in the week as she will go over quiz material after some have already written the quiz. Buy the textbook or source material for self learning. You will get through her class by teaching yourself chemistry.
Her explanation of contents is so confusing. Her She often gets sidetracked and ends up spending whole lecture time answering questions that were never asked.
She knows so much information regards to a topic but does not know how to phrase it in a way that students can understand. I studied by myself and understood the topic by reading the textbook. Also, the way she organizes her course is so messy.
She knows her stuff, and wants people to actually understand the material not just regurgitate it. She will do anything in her power to help you and cares, but you will need to do problems on own. Her power points are not standalone and you will need to attend class. The department does not give out good worked solutions so don't blame the prof.
You might have to teach yourself through this class. She gives very detailed explanations to solutions but often assumes students have a greater understanding of concepts than they really do. If you really understand concepts in the course, it isn't too hard. Otherwise.... good luck!
The course itself is easy so it makes Mozol's messy teaching style manageable. She has mandatory tutorial sessions where you have to do individual/group quizzes and work on a project. I found this project to be a waste. also a waste of time because she would mess up the solutions very often in class. If you've done AP chem, you can skip lectures :)
If you remember most of high school chem you'll be fine. I stopped going to lectures because she managed to confuse me about material I previously had a solid understanding of. Either use her powerpoints or the textbook because she is not a good explainer. For material you don't know from high school, khan accedmy and youtube are your friend.
I dont think shes a good teacher for first years. Her notes are unorganized and she updates the new notes for an 8am class at 5am. If you are not the best in chem sciences you should try to choose another prof. She is a fast replier to emails, however, Ill give her that. But I wouldnt take a class with her again.
She is quite a confusing professor, although the material was much easier to understand than chem 203. I relied mostly on khanacademy and wizedemy to teach me the material. She is a funny prof and does care about her students, but the only thing is that it isn't very organized.
Her online delivery of the material is not the best, she is disorganized and goes back and forth. It's hard to keep track. There were no midterms or tests this semester, the bulk of the grades relied on labs and tuts. I don't think enough preparation for the final was given. Overall just not an amazing experience with the teaching style.
Shes a really kind lady. Her lectures werent super organized but they were good to follow and they made sense. She usually just shows examples and you kind of have to figure it out but it was an easier class than expected. She replies very quick to emails and is easy to reach and always gives feedback. Idk why everyones mad about her teaching.
Honestly if you have her as your prof be prepared to do 90% of the work on your own. Her lectures are boring and disorganized. She can never get straight to the point. Just a terrible class.
I feel inclined to write a review due to the low ratings given on here. Yes the class is a little disorganized and difficult and the readings could have bee given to us more in advance instead the night before class. But overall the material was explained in an easy to understand manner and Mozol was always happy and willing to help students.
I found it hard to keep up with Dr. Mozol's lectures at first but I was able to get the hang of it near the middle of the semester. It's not that her lectures are disorganized, as what most reviews say. I think it's just different from other profs. Textbook isn't really much needed if you pay attention to class. Also, she explains her lectures well
I oly got a good grade from watching Doctor Kennepohl's lectures near the end of the semester. Lectures are disorganized and she posts the notes for lectures 5 minutes before they start, so you have no time to go over them. Doesn't even respond to emails if you need help. If you want a professor that does not care about their students, go to her.
Yes, she is a good person but not the best prof. Uploads lecture notes right before the lecture starts, once uploaded pre-tutorial file 20 hours before due. Tests are long answers, feedbacks are literally words like "incomplete," "wrong." Get ready to teach urself chemistry with textbook and YouTube vids. Final exam is 2 questions if you like that.
Self-directed learning so be prepared teach yourself. I watched countless youtube videos, practice worksheets online, and help from peers to pass this course.
Awful prof. Hundreds of people are currently miserable in her chem 201. Refuses to teach, expects you to know the content beforehand and even if you know the content her lecture will straight up confuse you more. She gives 1 word feedback like "ok" and berates students for asking questions infront of the class.
super disorganized. emails you lecture materials at 10pm. if you take this course you'll spend a ton of time teaching yourself. she shamed someone for asking a question. not the greatest prof.
She expects you to just know everything without practice and doesn't provide many resources.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS! she's a horrible explainer. very dizorganized. READ THE BOOK USE KHAN ACADEMY WATCH OPENSTAX LECTURES ON YT. She expects you to know EVERYTHING. Only grades using midterm and finals. So, youre dead if u dont understand a lecture. If you took AP CHEM, this will be easy. otherwise youre done. SELF STUDY. she has good music.
I never understood her lectures even though i do preclass activities and everytime i ask a question she just made me go bsck to her notes and never answer my questions I have to do double work so just i can pass her class because she never made sense would not recommend taking her classes
Honestly, she's a very sweet person outside of teaching. The thing with her classes is that she expects you to know the basic theory before coming to class so she can go over detail and specific examples in class. Idk if this is due to online learning or if her irl classes are also like that. But class ONLY makes sense if you prep beforehand.
The structure of her classes are confusing for her students. It's hard to understand her the concepts she is trying to explain because she is not very good at explain the materials. Prepare to teach yourself
does not teach in her lectures
The class wasn't too hard, but Mozol made it absolutely dreadful. The first month and a half or so of lectures were literally just breakout room discussions, no actual teaching during lectures. On top of that, her D2L page was almost always disorganized and sometimes didn't have the notes posted. Mozol made me want to switch majors. And I did.
Dr. Mozol was lots of fun as a teacher. I did find myself watching Dr Ks lectures but I also rewatched Dr. Mozols lectures as well. This was part of my studying.
disorganized lectures, does not answer students' questions accurately, exams are terrible, very far from the lecture, makes mistakes on her test questions and you end up getting more confused but a tough grader, also not very consistent with the content that she lectures: give you different info at different times. get ready to study on your own.
Dr. Mozol is a very sweet lady but her lectures are very different from other professors. She expects to to learn the content out of lecture and she tests your knowledge in lecture. May lab contents were not covered in lecture directly.
I feel like Mozol's style of teaching is not best suited for first years, as she does not directly "teach" content at all. Over the semester I adjusted, but you have to be prepared to learn the content before the lectures otherwise it makes no sense. The exams are difficult, as the questions require a deep and more abstract level of understanding.
Nice personality, but not a good prof. Expects you to teach yourself the material beforehand so that she can just go over detailed examples in lecture, which ultimately just confuse you more. You would be better off reading the textbook and finding other videos/lectures to watch. Get ready to teach yourself the whole course.
Dr. Mozol seems like a really great person, but her lectures often felt unorganized. She tried to answer questions throughout but that made lectures far more confusing as she ended up off topic and talking about thing we didn't really need to know. She expected us to review daily slides and videos, however she often emailed them late the day of.
I won't have an opinion on Dr.M's teaching style - it works for some but not for many, so it's a subjective topic. What infuriates me, though, is how disorganized things are in this class, from having a lab activity that deals with unlearnt topics, to misleading Final Exam announcements. Just sad and terrible, even for an easy-going person like me.
just a really bad experience
I feel so bad writing this because Dr. Mozol is a very nice person who seems like she really enjoys teaching. However, the problem arises when she attempts to write notes on advanced chemistry theories using pen and paper. Her lectures are quite disorganized with no clear direction and they are MESSY. I ended up just watching youtube.
Don't get me wrong, Dr. Mozol is a great person and I love her personality but her teaching style is just something else. Pen and paper notes from a projector like we're back in 2005 doesn't cut it anymore. Just way too messy, blurry, and hard to understand; she consistently overlaps notes when people ask questions. Just read the textbook.
Monzols lectures are very disorganized and hard to follow especially since she mostly uses pen and paper. A lot of time was wasted on padlets and breakout rooms so I didn't learn anything from her so there's really no use in attending her lectures. Makes the material seem more complicated than it actually is.I learned so much more from Dr. K.
If you go in with a negative mindset, you will have a bad learning experience. Honestly, as a prof, she's not that bad! I really appreciated how she adjusted her teaching style over the semester based on student feedback. The majority of my problems came from the course itself: confusing labs, unorganized D2L shell, incredibly difficult exams, etc
awful. mozol is very nice but lord she cannot teach. the D2L shell is very disorganized and the midterm/final have questions that are much harder than what was learned in class. i recommend allocating much time outside of the class to learn the concepts by yourself through youtube. material is not that hard, but the way it is taught is horrible
The worst professor I have had by far. Stopped going to her lectures after about a month of complete garbage. She would make slides for us to read BEFORE class with all the material she was supposed to teach, and then not go over it in class. So disorganized, could not complete a coherent lesson. If you are unfortunate enough to get her please swit
Mozol cannot teach. She is disorganized and rarely answers students questions. Mock exams tend to be very different from actual exams, and grades are nearly impossible to appeal or get clarification on. Her lectures are frequently behind the labs so my poor TA had to teach us the material for each lab because Mozol was a full week behind.
Super disorganized and notes were basically illegible, just a bunch of scribbles on paper. Expected you to fully understand the material before lecture, where she would only confuse you more. I stopped going to her lectures in the first month and the only reason I got an A is because I watched Dr. Ks lectures and the course material is fairly easy.
The lectures were extremely disorganized and I found that they didnt prepare me enough for the tests. Really relied on outside resources to teach me the material.
Dr. Mozol is a kind lady, however when it came to teaching online she was very ineffective. She would often go off on a tangent and continuously answer students questions so we barely got through any material. I would often be left confused at the end. She did not assign us any questions/homework so it was hard to know where to start in studying.
Nice person, seemed like she did care about students but her lectures were not good. I struggled all the way through this class, her lectures are scattered and confusing. At points I wouldnt even know what was happening in the class that day. Maybe in person it would have been better, but online was terrible. The midterm and final were awful.
Told everyone in the class that we were going to fail the midterm and that it was everyone’s fault except her own. She also expects us to attend both the chem lectures, read all of her notes, watch concept videos, and read multiple online textbooks. Overall a bad vibe and barely explains anything in class.
The lectures were hard to follow as she didn’t seem sure of herself.
Best Chem prof!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A very nice lady but just not a good prof. Being expected to learn all the material by yourself before class would work if this was the only class you were taking, but unfortunately that is not the case. She would try to show you how to do things without teaching you the concepts behind it, and it was always just incredibly confusing.
She seems like an okay person but would release her notes the day of the class at 4 am and expects you to read over them before class because she wont go over them in the lecture. She expects you to already know stuff before she teaches. Not a good chem prof would not recommend her. Horrible exams
I pray for you if you have Mozol. She is so nice but has no clue what she is doing as far as teaching goes. Find another prof to attend their lectures if you have her. It's the literal only way you'll pass.
So hard to keep up with what she teaches in lectures. She is very disorganized making students confused as to what point she tries to get across in the lecture. You're better off teaching yourself the course material because she won't do you any help.
She is a very nice and kind professor and shows that she really cares about providing students with a good education. If you ask a question, she will provide you with a great, thorough, and clear answer. She goes over important information too many times sometimes. She is THE prof for kinesthetic and visual learners. Her D2L is very helpful.
The most disorganized, unclear prof I've ever had. Pre-tutorials are in a different place on D2L every time, doesn't answer emails, expects you to teach yourself. She says she's there "to give you feedback to make you a better asynchronous learner" then doesn't give feedback. You're on your own if you have her.
Lectures are uninformative, Dr. Mozol's lessons are often disorganized and ineffectively communicate concepts. Exams test reading comprehension more than chemistry knowledge. Dr. Mozol takes pride in low class averages and difficult material when realistically CHEM 201 is the easiest university level course. Be prepared to do a lot self-teaching.
Joke of a professor. The other day she literally took out some jello and jiggled it on a plate to "explain electron density" in a lecture theatre with 400 students. Completely disorganized and talks about irrelevant stuff all the time. If there is another prof for the class, go to that one lol
Lectures don't make much sense unless you teach yourself the material beforehand, and even then... Only thing they really give you clues on are the specific way she likes things done on tests, so that's cool at least.
Awful.
The notes and class are very unorganized. Often it is more beneficial to use the online textbook and supplementary videos than the notes - if you miss a class and get the notes from a friend... good luck trying to decipher them. If another professor is available, take it with them or go to their lectures.
I had Mozol for CHEM 201, and although the material is really easy, her lectures are insanely confusing, using way to many metaphors, why do you need jello to grasp the concept of electron clouds? The online videos are way better then the lectures, so id advise using those instead. The midterm was more trick questions then chem knowledge.
Dr. Mozol seems like the sweetest lady ever, so I feel absolutely awful saying this, but she is a horrible prof. Her notes are practically illegible and instead of teaching, she basically "recites" what shes doing (like she doesn't explain why or how to do a lot of the concepts). She's very disorganized and I spent $120 on prep101 cause of her :)
Shes a very nice lady, but her notes and lectures are all over the place and quite hard to understand. But she is quite helpful one on one during office hours.
Dr. Mozol is a very nice person, but not a great professor. She is very disorganised and confusing. DO NOT take this class if your have ADHD, as she does not post the notes afterwards and her disorganization can be incredibly distracting.
Her lectures may seem confusing, but as long as you are prepared with the content, and watch the online videos it should be helpful. I would also highly recommend going to her office hours as she explains things much better, and she helps answers the questions in a better way. Her online videos are also really helpful, so definitely watch those!
Dr Mozol is very kind and helpful during office hours. Her lectures are quite confusing, and she's sort of all over the place. She does not post the notes, her handwriting is very hard to decipher, and she often just starts doing random things during lectures. She's really silly. Exams were hard, and the marking was very nitpicky.
Mozol is a scatterbrained mess. While helpful if you go to her office hours, her lectures are nearly entirely useless. Mozol uses nonsensical metaphors to explain concepts and charges through content, often skipping important concepts. the only good things I have to say about her are that cares about her students and her tests are super fair.
Her lectures are very unorganized and she usually spent most of the class scribbling on one page with illegible words. I pray no one else gets her as a professor she is so incredibly confusing, there were times where I walked in knowing the content and walked out so confused. The only helpful thing was the videos on d2l which were uploaded.
I hate to say this since she seems incredibly kind and caring, but I found it very hard to grasp the content she was trying to get across in her lectures. Sadly, most days I found her classes quite difficult to follow, scattered, and confusing. If you ever see this, Dr. Mozol, you're a good prof, but please try to change your teaching style.
the way dr mozol teaches is hard to understand if you don't already have a working knowledge of the concepts being explained, and considering the online textbook is garbage and she seldom posts notes, that's basically impossible. Had to start attending lecture 1 and 2 just to be able to understand stuff unfortunately. advice: NEVER SKIP.
Very self-led course. Dr. Mozol is very sweet and is accessible out of class, however her lectures are utterly useless. Everything she says is extremely confusing and she overcomplicates extremely simple topics. I would avoid if possible. If not, get ready to spend a lot of time self-studying!
The biggest reason why I understood the course's content is that I did the majority of the content in AP while in high school, other than that for the rest of the course I had to teach myself through the textbook. Her lectures are useless but going to a few helps with understanding what she wants from you. Merry Christmas and avoid this prof.
The notes she wrote during the lectures were not very organized or comprehensive. She is good at explaining but would often jump around and not acknowledge some important information that she expects us to know. Dr. Mozol gives us mock exams which is incredibly helpful as to get an idea of the layout of her exams and what she expects of us.
lectures are all over the place and very confusing. you basically learn the whole course yourself
I found that Dr. Mozol really cares about her students. She is one of the only teachers I've ever met that will change their teaching style for students. Even though there are so many bad reviews of Dr. Mozol, I loved her. The course is hard and she doesn't explain it in the easiest way but it's because she's preparing us for the harder stuff!
Dr. Mozol is very clearly an intelligent person who is very good at chemistry herself. However, I do not agree with how much this applies for her teaching style. Most lectures needed many pre lecture activities, if not done you would have no idea what was happening in lecture. Grading overall was not bad, but I did find her hard to follow.
Confusing and unorganized lectures. She overcomplicates a lot of things about the course material by going on tangents about stuff that'll show up in later courses (namely organic chemistry) which causes confusion. That said, for all the overcomplication the midterm and final were surprisingly reasonable. Nice lady, wouldn't recommend for a teacher
Mozol cares for her student and is friendly but her teaching technique needs to be improved. We as students can tell she is an expert in her field but in explaining and teaching, she lacks in that area enormously. You have to meet her in person to understand the concept. Reading the textbook is a must when she can't explain concepts well.
Explains concepts well, but in a convoluted, disorganized way. You have to pay close attention in lecture and pick out the useful stuff. Grading criteria not super clear, so go to her office hours even if you don't have questions! Super helpful one-on-one, concepts/grading clarified, and gives exam clues. Exams were fair, all written response.
Made basic content seem more confusing and difficult than it really was. Readings given often late the night before via email. Also had no office hours if you wanted to talk had to try and catch before or after class.
Your experience with Mozol is entirely attitude dependent, she is diff in that she pushes you to think about chemistry in ways you may not be used to. She is great for visual learners and those that need a reality check. Those that did not succeed in her class were ones that were unwilling to broaden their learning and instead chose to complain.
Dr. Mozol was very passionately engaged in lectures, the issue was that it was typically very unclear as to what she was trying to teach. The notes during lectures were very chaotic and hard to follow. Too much time spent on easy content, not enough on hard. Exams were easy but very specific. I bought an outside textbook in order to learn.
Mozol describes her classroom as a safe space where all questions are welcome, then proceeds to shame students for 'dumb' questions in front of their peers. During lecture she does not give a clear answer to most questions and finds an unrelated answer that is not helpful. Her lectures are disorganized and notes are hard to follow.
she's really disorganized. makes it hard to follow along her lectures, there is no structure in her lessons. she is really nice though. if you ask her questions she'll definitely answer them but sometimes in a vague way.
She's very caring but highly disorganized. She completely forgot to teach a topic that was worth a good 4 marks on the final to my lecture. Also, be prepared for all written exams.
Professor Mozol is a great person, and she cares a lot about her students. If you want to succeed in this course, I recommend reading the learning objective slides she provided on D2L and focusing during lectures. Also, read the textbook and reach out to your TA when you need help.
Mrs.Mozol is a very difficult professor to understand. She makes everything more complicated than what it has to. She is disorganized in her lectures and has very high standards. Taking a course with her is 100% self taught. I personally found that it is better to not go to her in-person lectures at all since it gets very confusing.
Mozol's lectures are pretty rough and all over the place, but she's more clear and helpful during office hours. I would recommend using Khan Academy and the organic chem tutor in order to better understand the material. The midterm was harder than the final so make sure you prepare for that really well.
she is very chaotic and posts nothing after class so you have to come to lectures. she graded pretty fair tho
Lectures were definetly not super helpful for me, some comparisons were odd here or there but she isn't all bad, she knows her stuff. I reccommend asking for clarity in tutorials and office hours, and definetly utilize notes and skill videos! My main issue is lack of practice problems, but using textbooks and online resources helps a little
lack of logic
Lectures were very confusing and hard to follow along, as the material was presented in a very disorganized way. The 'notes' that are posted online after each lecture are literally just scribbles. Avoid taking this class with Mozol, if you can.
Dr. Mozol opens your eyes to a new way of learning. You will need to preread the notes/textbook IN ADVANCE. In class she will go over how to better understand and apply the concepts. You cannot expect to be spoon-fed information. Dr. Mozol is very helpful in her office hours, and goes out of her way to answer your questions and provide feedback.
Pros: She would give many mock exams which helps us know what to expect on the tests. Her office hours are very helpful and she is quite patient with questions. Cons: Trust me, those are not notes it takes some mentality to get used to those "notes" and test question styles(I would've given a 1 if she didnt give mock exams to help us)
Dr. Mozol prefers not to use slides so you have to attend lectures. However, she is super helpful during office hours and will give practice problems, explanations, and visuals.
She knows her stuff pretty well but she oversimplifies concepts too much sometimes which makes them more difficult to understand and her "notes" are chaotic scribbles in one note that are impossible to follow. Her learning objective slideshow notes are a bit better. Make sure to take time to learn concepts on your own.
In order for her lectures to make sense you need to prepare beforehand and already have somewhat of an understanding. Missing a lecture means the following lectures will be very difficult to follow. Grading can vary because of different TAs but she has mock exams that are very similar in content to actual tests which are helpful.
Her lectures made no sense, I would understand the material until I went to class and I left with more questions than before. Not very clear and will jump from subject to subject.
Genuinely the worst prof, she barely teaches anything, spent two whole weeks on one learning objective, one whole lecture on a demo. No practice questions, slides are unorganized. If you want to get good grades just read textbook.
Honestly a very bad prof. Her lecture slides are incredibly unorganized, will explain something in the most abstract way possible, jumps around from topic to topic randomly & wastes a lot of lecture time going on tangents and/or walking around while students answer questions they have no clue how to do due to poor explanations. Avoid at all costs.
She jumps around the curriculum instead of going in order, and instead of using slides, she uses onenote, where her notes are illegible. She also does not always upload the notes after the lectures, it can take days sometimes. I recommend going to lectures, but you will have to learn the content in your free time as well.
Dr. Mozol is an amazing person who is always available for students. She is very caring and will explain things 10 times if necessary. Office hours are a must. Most of the people who complain are expecting her to spoon-feed the material and that's not how the course works. You need to put in the effort because it's not an easy course.
Do your readings and/or seek help (office hours). Dr. Mozol is not a bad professor, first-year students are overwhelmed by difficult concepts and a professor who does not do what their high school teachers did. Do not expect a professor to be CrashCourse and make a 200-person lecture hall understand Chem 201.
Prof often dismissed students and made unprofessional condescending comments. Certain professions were mocked and looked down on, students were told they were going to fail in front of a lecture theatre. Growth felt challenging not encouraged. Almost as though the prof wanted to demonstrate their talent and express their opinions over teaching.
Dr. Mozol is incredibly unorganized and extremely unprofessional. She would dismiss students' questions or make comments such as "I really hope you didn't just say that", or that they would fail the course for misunderstanding a concept. Don't bother asking for a regrade, even when the TA is at fault, as she will just ignore your email.
Notes are extremely unorganised, lectures make you more confused, responds quickly to emails and a genuinely nice person just not great at teaching
Mozol was tough. She teaches every concept in the context of organic chemistry, which I appreciated as someone planning to take it next year. She sets her office hours to be after class so she's very accessible for questions. If you are planning to take organic chemistry, take Chem 201 with her. If you are looking for an easy option class, avoid.
Unprofessional, unorganized, and condescending are the three words I would use to describe Dr. Mozol. She seems like a nice person and responds quickly to emails but you will leave her class feeling more confused.
Dr. Mozol is a bit scattered but her lectures are certainly entertaining. She spends class time diving deeper into material and applying it to more complex examples. Because of this, learning the basic concepts has to be done at home. She is also open to helping students outside of class. Overall a good prof.
Mozol was definitely the most unique professor I've had. From getting hot chocolate while lecturing, to making fun of kids going to SAIT, it was interesting. Mozol just talked for the sake of talking. She would go on rants and tell us "you NEED to know/recognize this concept" without actually teaching it. Her notes were also extremely confusing.
If you love staring at the board in confusion and banging your head against a wall, then she's a great professor. Otherwise, get ready to use YouTube to teach you the concepts, because she NEVER teaches anything. Plus, her notes are so confusing to look at. I regret not dropping this class before the final because WOW.
Bad, confusing lectures. Goes on rants and gets no teaching done. Yells at students. Mocks people. Overall, bad attitude. Terrible notes. Awful slides that are not organized at all. Will tell you that you need to know something and then fully not teach it. I would learn more from staring at a blank wall!
Whatever you do DON'T take a course with Mozol as your prof. She can not explain simply topics without making them confusing. Better off using youtube videos/textbook instead of attending her lectures. What a waste of time truly.
Her slides are discombobulating, the content she TRIES to teach is incoherent, and she is overall not a good prof at all. At a certain point, a large portion of my lecture section stopped attending and I wish I had done the same. So many concepts that would be otherwise simple are made so convoluded and confusing by Mozol.
I can not believe they hired her to teach this course. They need to fix the chem department
She didn't really comprehensively teach anything and had no good resources for us to study. I think she just likes drawing and doesn't really explain anything.
She doesn't use PowerPoint slides and just has two or three sheets of content per chapter and vaguely explains it, making it difficult to understand. Was also not the nicest when reaching out by email, and does not explain topics in a way first-years can understand. Had to use Org. Chem Tutor to understand lots of the CHEM 201 content.
If i could rate less i probably would. Notes are unorganized and confusing, even while attending lectures. Goes on rants, berates students for simply asking questions, and makes an overall unhelpful and annoying learning environment. Be prepared to use youtube or other outside resources to understand concepts, because Mozol teaching will not help.
Dr. Mozol is an extremely kind prof! However, her lectures are extremely disorganized and lack direction. Unlike most teachers she doesn't start off by explaining what were about to learn rather jumps straight into examples and strays far away from her notes. She is hard to follow on her tangents, I found lectures were not worth going to.
Mozol's slides may seem disorganized, but everything you need to know is on them once you read them. The real issue most people have with her is that she is rather mean when it comes to email or in-person correspondence. Because of this, people fear asking her questions and sometimes when they do they may feel as though they have been berated.
go to lectures because notes dont contain everything you need to know. good at explaining things. lectures are a little disorganized but teaching was still done.
She is a great professor. I'm quite surprised by the negative ratings. If you miss lectures it will be difficult to catch up. She sends an email every week with the slides and replies quickly to emails. she does forget to send the notes sometimes tho. She is not the most organized prof. But she obviously cares about her students. I'd enroll again.
the most useless prof i've had so far. The class slides, OneNote and D2L for the class are very unorganized and lectures are hard to follow. her handwriting is absolutely awful and she jumps around topics, goes on tangents and makes weird offensive comments. if you have mozol, be ready to teach yourself everything.
Really awful lectures, honestly a waste of time to go to. Her slides are FULL of paragraphs and I found it hard to follow. Not to mention her writing on onenote is basically scribbles. She would also often make comments in class that felt a little wrong to me, borderline offensive. Probably better off just learning yourself at home.
She's clearly knowledgeable about the subject and I found her explanations easy to understand, but I can see how so many other students were lost because her teaching style is very different and highly disorganized. She has an extremely eccentric personality (the nice way to put it) but responded to emails fast and is overall helpful.
If you have this professor, please drop the class. There is a limit on how much I can write so I'll just say she should not be allowed to teach this class anymore. I honestly do not mean any disrespect towards this professor. I had a couple of conversations with her after lectures and she seems to be a nice person, but she can't teach.
She goes on needlessly long tangents that serve no educational purpose, and teaches in a way that is very conveluded and complicated for no reason on the offchance she decides to do her job. You know how in Harry Potter, they got Dementors? She's a Dementor the way she sucks every bit of happiness from my body.
In my case, Mozol was a great prof in first year. Without her I would never have learned how I can teach myself an entire course without a prof. If you are in her lecture, you might also learn this skill.
She's a spiteful, mean-spirited and sardonic prof. Her teachings are ineffective, composed primarily of "readings," which one has to do outside of class, and her in-class material involves her going on endless tangents and questions which she doesn't address in any meaningful way. Writing this fuels me with vile, which I'm sure fuels her giant ego.
she was extremely disorganized, and would constantly attack students when they answered questions. Her OneNote notes were scribbles and were not legible. If you are in the class, I recommend using external sources like youtube because her notes are not sufficient
Mozol is the worst professor you will ever have. She does not care about the students or their comprehension of the material. She constantly berates students that attempt to ask/answer questions. She said herself that she never wanted to be a teacher and she chooses to take her vindictiveness out on her students. Avoid her at all costs.
Worst professor ever, expects you to have a solid understanding of the material prior to coming to class although it is her literal job to help students develop a solid understanding of course content. She needs to rethink her "career." Her lectures are an utter waste of time and not up to university standard, I have stopped attending altogether.
actually the most traumatic experience of my first year, no professor will ever be as bad as her. good luck
Imagine a cross between the tweaker in the McDonald's bathroom and a crazy cat lady and you have Mozol. Informative lectures? Definitely not. Rants about AI and ChatGPT? Absolutely. Her notes are messy and hard to read, and she often goes off-topic. Have fun teaching yourself everything the week before the midterm and finals. Would not take again.
DONT show up to her lectures unless you have studied the concepts ,she expects you to know everything prior to attending lectures as she won't provide basic explanations. sometimes she gives good points, but other times will leave you even more confused. Be ready to have ochem tutor open on YouTube because she does not teach, and notes are messy!
Personally I enjoyed Dr. Mozol. Granted her teaching style is different, but I found concepts thoroughly explained overall. Happy to go over concepts multiple ways, and realistic with students about expectations. Practice exams and partial marks are so generous, and something many professors don't care to do in future years.
I had Prof. Mozol for chem 201 this winter semester and she is honestly such a kind, understanding and fair professor. I didn't get a lot from lecture so I would attend office hours for further clarification on course content or to help me understand my mistakes on exams. She is understanding, patient and very helpful especially in office hours.
Mozol often faces unjust criticism, mostly due to "group think". In reality, she's an excellent teacher. Her approach to teaching chemistry is like unraveling a puzzle, making each concept intriguing. She lays out information thoughtfully, showcasing her intelligence and turning learning into an engaging experience.
She was okay, she would explain things in a really complicated way and make things more confusing than it actually was. The tutorials, mock exams and textbook really helped with the exams.
Dr Mozol teaches some things well until she introduces a new topic on the day of the midterm which will be on the test. She called our class "dyslexic" and "ADHD" as a joke...She explains things In such an unnecessary way and I swear she teleports around the room. And if she mentions the "corkscrew of knowledge" one more time ...

Not sure why Dr. Mozol gets so many negative reviews, she's extremely available outside of class and very willing to help you understand any concepts you're struggling with. She gives many hints in lectures of what is important to know for the exams, and yes, she is a little disorganized, but she is one of the kindest profs I've had.
You need to put in work to understand her lectures. She did not teach the material, instead went through it in different ways and did questions. Talking to her one on one was helpful, but lectures made things more complicated than they were. Exams are fair but all written. This was my hardest first year class and Mozol did not make it much easier.
You must know the content pretty well before coming to lectures. Even then, lectures are scattered and hard to follow. She is an intelligent person, and wants students to understand concepts on a deeper level. However, her ability to teach in that way effectively is limited. She is more helpful one on one. Basically, teach yourself the content.
Mozol's teaching style takes some adjusting, but with the right study tools like unstuckstudy ai, ChatGPT, and the course textbook, you can do well. Lectures can be confusing, but one-on-one help is useful. Exams are fair but challenging.
She is so kind!
She evokes an unsettling combination of the malevolent witch from Snow White and the predatory demeanor of a velociraptor. She frequently belittles the intelligence of the entire class. She possesses the uncanny ability to teleport around the room, appearing unexpectedly in various corners as she targets students with her sharp criticisms.
awful goes off topic messy templates skips all the time
There's no earthly comparison that could explain what her lectures are like. I've never felt more lost than I do during those 50 mins & it's only been 3 DAYS. The material isn't even that difficult she's just so bad at teaching it. I put the inspirational tag bc her lectures inspire me to jump off TFDL just to never have to face her teaching again.
Lecture slides are so disorganized and can't even read what she wrote
Absolutely horrid. She does not care about anyone or anything and is so insufferable as she constantly finds ways to discourage students. Worst professor I have ever encountered and is of no use even if you visit her during office hours. She will make you feel bad for anything you ask and answers so condescendingly. No idea how she still has a job.
Her tests are poorly designed, questions are not reasonable and sometimes even considered cheesy.
Do not have her as a professor if you can't help it! Sadly, I was not granted this choice. She is very "quirky" and "eccentric". I would not reccomend
please someone buy her new tablet. Having technology issue in every lectures is so annoying.
completely disorganized. goodluck following her lectures.
I want new chemistry professor can you please retire.. please please.. her note is so disorganize it is impossible to study by looking at her note.
How did she become professor I l actually can't believe it.
So disorganized, hard to read notes and constant technical issues. Cannot study off her notes for anything. Very confusing.
The thing with Mozol is that she gets you thinking about precisely WHY things work the way they do. This is obviously harder but turns you into a better chemist, student, and worker. Great proffesor.
Be prepared to learn a lot of the class material at home on your own, I have never met a teacher that doesnt have a IPAD that works 50 percent of lectures. I dont pay 4000 a semester for that kind of unprofessionalism
if you needed a reason to drop out, this is it
Her notes and lectures are extremely disorganized and illegible. Each class feels like you just got whiplash because she pulls stuff out from no where without explaining it and then spends more than half the class on the easiest concepts in the course. Asking her questions is very humbling as she treats you like a dog and talks down on you.
She makes it impossible to miss lectures because the hand writing is so horrendous to read and is very condensed so that a lot of important details are missing. Attending lectures can also be a snooze-fest because sometimes she spends the whole lecture doing one practice question instead of covering new material/details that should be known.
I remember I wasn't even in her lecture but she would sit in during my prof's lecture. I asked a question and she responded to me by basically saying "die dont even ask something like that" like her whole job and the reason she gets paid isn't to teach. Waste man prof stg
holy...........
I just gave up this class because of mozol. It's impossible to study by looking at her note and her lecture class is so confusing. If any of u guys have class with this prof in the future, just give up this class and focus on other classes
She is very confusing
I think mozol is overrated. One thing is her notes are confusing but if you go to lecture and watch her teach then its actually quite helpful. She is so so nice and also more than eager to help if you ask her a question. She makes clear what is expected for you to understand and does tons of examples. If you have her don't panic as she's not bad!!!
Be ready to learn everything by yourself. She's pretty helpful if you go her office hours, but her lectures are something else. Good luck!
Lectures are next to useless, so get ready to learn on your own! Also she often goes ff her slides, and starts writing her own notes. At least she posts it though. If you ask questions she can sometimes explain something very well, but sometimes it's not as great.
Dear God, lectures made no sense. I felt so lost on the content because she explains very simple topics in very complicated ways. The threshold for an A is above 87%, which helps out. Don't want to discourage you - succeeding in this class is possible - just be prepared for picky marking on tutorials and finals.
The lectures felt disorganized and hard to follow as she often jumped between concepts. She did use helpful practice questions, but her explanations were sometimes unclear. In-person, she explains concepts better. Her teaching requires students to piece things together, but she pushes you to think deeply. Overall, okay but not great.
I think the reviews speak for themselves. I never attended her lectures as everyone who did said they were useless and so I decided to use her notes instead and literally they are illegible, I'm not exaggerating. I'm teaching myself this course which is ridiculous with the amount of tuition I pay. Thank god for Organic Chemistry Tutor.
It's very hard to understand what she's trying to say when she's teaching, especially with her horrible handwriting, it's impossible to read or understand any of the posted notes. It was only when she did a review lecture answering questions, when many of the concepts she tried to explain finally clicked. She's good at answering questions at least.
She posts her slides which would be nice if her writing was not completely illegible. The only practice she really posted was in her lecture notes, which are very difficult to decipher. So you should be prepared to teach yourself the course with the textbook and Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube.
She is very unorganized and her notes are all over the place and difficult to read and decipher.
if youre going to take anything away from these reviews - do NOT take vivians class. ive emailed her 5 times this sem about regrades (the grading is incredibly tough, the TA's are even confused by her grading criteria), and she has not replied.ever. seems impossible to succeed when she doesnt even reply to students. vile lecturer, notes r so messy
Her notes do not make sense at all and are impossible to read/understand. She is always off topic in lectures. Not worth to take her class.
She makes easy concepts extremely confusing. If you miss a lecture you are in trouble because it is impossible to read her writing and her slides make no sense. Her lectures are all over the place and often are extremely confusing.
I have never seen lecture notes so random and confusing in my life. She is all over the place and her handwriting is completely illegible.
She ghosted me mid-email chain because I pointed out a mistake in her grading?! TAs and her are never on the same page(I got a comment back on an exam saying perfect w/ a smiley face and Mozol went back and gave me a 0 for the question). No accountability from the department because she has sucked for years. Doesn't see students as people. vv rude
Incredibly Confusing Lectures, found it impossible to follow anything that was going, and heavily relied on the textbook and internet to understand concepts. Seems passionate, but needs to plan out lectures and notes better to make them coherent.
I met four times with this professor after class ended after having missed most of the lectures and I was able to do well on the final exam. More than that though, she's someone who really gives a s____ and is encouraging and helpful. The lectures I attended were all theoretically interesting by her conviviality and passion for the subject matter.
Is a very enthusiastic professor who is clearly passionate about her job (etc. her eagerness towards questions). She is viewed as confusing, but reality is that the course is challenging & only so much can actually be explained by the educator. She genuinely tries everything to help her students reach their highest academic potential.
Notes are terrible and hard to read her writing. Constantly looks down on students and thinks we should “work harder” because she thinks all everyone's wants to do is get into med school. Doesn't explain well and expects us to know everything from the get go. Will be extremely devastated if i had to sit in one of her lectures again.
Dr. Mozol is an amazing professor. Her handwriting is incredibly neat and easy to follow, making note-taking a breeze. Her lectures are so clear and well-structured that understanding the material comes effortlessly. She always takes the time to explain concepts thoroughly, ensuring no one is left behind. Ignore the other ratings.
I don't understand why people are so hard on her. She is such a sweet and caring person, and warned us about concepts that would be on the exam. I believe her tests were fair if you actually learned the material. People are just too lazy and don't show up to class then complain about not doing well.
Avoid at all costs. The rest of the ratings essentially sum up your experience. Any comments praising her are not real, and are done so to get naive first years to sign up to her class!!!
I honestly understand why students might have a problem with the way she teaches at first but after you get used to her you can actually understand everything she says very easily and the content she teaches is actually not that bad so even if you don't understand something you can figure that out on your own. Very accessible outside of class.
She explains material very deeply and is very accessible outside class
her notes are so awful omg made resonance so much more confusing then it needed to be
Explains eveything very good and extremely accessible outside class
Taught everything needed for final exam and taught fairly well. However, her notes were slightly disorganized but going over every example in them was very helpful for exam.
Honestly terrible run...run
Mozol is a good person and definitely cares about her students, but she is an awful lecturer. Her lectures are a mess and quite hard to follow. If you read ahead, her lectures can be somewhat beneficial. Read ahead, pay attention/review labs/tutorials, and keep attending her lectures, you can probably make it out with a decent grade.
Terribleeeeeee teacher. Her lectures are all over the place and very chaotic and hard to follow. Her notes are also all over the place and very very very difficult to follow or understand her handwriting. Yes she is a good person but she cannot teach at all. Avoid if you can as you are going to have to learn all concepts on your own.
probably the worst instructor i've had. extremely disorganized lectures and hard-to-read notes. spends whole classes going on tangents about particular, unimportant concepts or single examples with little useful explanation. i have not learned anything or been able to understand anything in this class since she began teaching us after the midterm.
Ms. Mozol's lectures were disorganized, and often frustrated me throughout the year, but while studying for the final my opinion changed. I still think the lectures were disorganized and not explained well, but the notes and flowcharts she made were helpful for studying. I wasn't able to, but her office hours are also supposedly worth going to.
good luck to anyone that has her! she needs to be forced into retirement immediately before she hurts anymore students education. This woman is actually insane with illegible hand writing and the most confusing notes you will ever see. She is so rude if you try ask questions and makes you feel incredibly done. Ive never hated a woman more
If you have Dr. Mozol for chemistry, be prepared to put in effort. Although the material wasn't too complicated, I found her explanations to be unclear and confusing. I had to put in a lot of effort to understand and do well. I think if she had a more structured approach to teaching the second half of the course, students would do better.
Her notes are absolutely terrible, they are messy and she jumps everywhere on the page. Hard to follow along. Makes simple concepts confusing. Do not recommend
Genuinely scares me a bit. Class itself wasn't too bad but Mozol teaching was borderline impossible to understand. She has no flow in her lectures and is very all over the place. I would say attend but honestly I found it pointless too when she was teaching. Use the textbook when you have her, it's the only thing that will help.
Her lectures are pretty much incomprehensible and her notes are very hard to follow. But she's very nice and helpful if you can talk to her one on one
She doesn't go over any of the slides during lectures. She gets easily sidetracked and doesn't go over everything that you need to know for the exams.
If you can, avoid taking chemistry with her. Her slides and her way of teaching were really confusing. I did chem AP in highschool, so I had technically already learned everything in this course, and she still managed to confuse me. She was also not very kind when we weren't understanding what she was teaching.
Real legend, only gets worse from here
Her lectures and notes are very confusing as she tends to ramble on, however she is very helpful during office hours and after class. I did not understand much in class, however during office hours she was able to explain the concepts in a way that was catered towards my learning style.
Very messy notes and lectures, all over the place.
Often gets off track in lectures, which sucks when the content is already hard enough. Willing to help if you miss a lab or tutorial which is nice. Had a meltdown in the middle of lecture bc 2 people were talking and yelled at all 400 students asking why any of us (including her) were even here. We never caught up in that material we missed either
Terrible handwriting, confusing lectures, unhelpful
Wrote in cursive which was annoying, and went off topic a lot. Went to her to explain my final exam, which I didn't do well on, and told me it was disrespectful that I took the exam and to reconsider medicine. Judged me in so many ways and got really personal. It was very mean and I had been going through some bad mental health atm. Never again.
NO. Im sorry but Dr Mozol is a bad professor, she often just rambles on in her lectures, not really teaching the core fundamentals of the class and the contents we needed for the exams. I often found myself lost pretty much every second, and I ended up teaching myself the entire 2nd half of the course. Bad professor. Good person, funny, but bad.
Nice person but a very poor prof. Her notes are not legible at all, and is organized in a very poor manner. I have never been more confused on where to find lecture materials and it stresses me out when I feel like I'm missing some notes.
She goes on tangents, and her notes could be a lot more organized. BUT she was always available after every class to answer any questions. She tries hard to prep her students for orgo chem, which means you have to invest a lot of time into the material in order to understand its nuance. You have to pay attention to follow what she's explaining.
