She is an extremely hard professor that does not explain things thoroughly, and so you are on your own. Should not teach higher than 125 or 115. Just about everybody knows she is hard and is not recommended. Drop ASAP to avoid low grade. Hard grader.
Her tests are filled with fractions and that's a big complaint. She has done a good job in teaching the subject since I have mostly understood the concepts. However, I would hesitate on taking her again because of the known difficulty of her tests.
Picking up the book and doing a few homework problems is not teaching. She needs to plan ahead what she will be teaching, like most teachers do.

like below, doing a few random problems is not teaching. she does not teach. she tests hard. however alot of her test problems come from her hw. if you do her hw you might pass her class. but shes not a good teacher.
I had taken Math 115 with two other instructors and failed it. I finally took it again with Ms. Castellon and I finally understood Math. She is not easy, but she will go out of her way to make sure you understand. She is an excellent instructor.
completely changes the format of the problems that you've done on your homework to harder ones. take her at your own risk ... seriously! Fails to explain the logic of the problem and important concepts that are relevant to solve them. Arrogant!

SHE IS GREAT!!!!!

Who cares how she dresses. She explains everything in DETAIL and she meets with her students on weekends and holidays. If you want to learn, take her class!
Better than nothing! 50/50 chance you will drop.
she needs more experience in teaching this class. Tends to skip a lot, and a you must understand things on your own because she does not explain them thoroughly. She should remain teaching in lower levels of math.
extremely, hard picky, and uncompassionate.
she's one tough cookie that I would never take again. But take her, for a completely hard semester. This 3 unit course should not be as hard. If you are planning to take this class with this teacher to fulfill your college level math, think again. You'll be glad you listened to me.
She is an excellent teacher. She takes the time to explain her material in a format for all her students to understand. She shows great patience and enthusiam in her material. If you do your homework, you will do great in her class. If you want a mickey-mouse class, this is not it. You will learn!!
Made math easy for me. Challenging class but it was well worth it. I agree with who cares about how she dresses (she thinks she's 15 years old). Very knowledgable woman.
She is so mean, you have to hand in your homework at the begining of the class, otherwise, she doesn't accept it. Her test is base on the homework but hard.
cheerful, clear, concise, helpful. nice personality
I had her for lower levels of math 115-125 and she was fun and easy. For higher levels she sucked and made the exams not doable. She is so hard, its not even funny. She tries to trick you when there is a chance, and won't explain more than a few easy problems. The tests problems are really hard.
She is a very strict teacher, She could careless about the students, and she is very cold. If you take her class, be ready.
if you are an evening student and this class is the only one you can take, I recommend you take it in another semester instead. I mean, what is the point of taking it now when you are going to have to take it again? (Even if math is your strong point, your chances for a good grade are low). Omit.
she is a great professor. explains everything step by step. u have to work for a good grade, but thats how life is. she doesn't make it impossible to get an A. yeah it was a lot of hw but in the long run it helps out for tests. i recommend her.
SHE IS picky. you can't turn in homework late. you have to turn it in when you walk in to the class and also she has lots assignment to do. she made lots of mistake in the class too. so you'd better .........
Thinks she is the best. Goes way too fast and tests are very intimidating. She tests on a level that is impossible for a beginner to do well. Has an attitude towards students, specially asians. Notes are somewhat helpful for hw, but not as tests reference. I'd take someone else for higher math.
it feels like it is her against the students. not a very nice teacher.
This was the best teacher of math I've ever had, and I HATE math - I'm an English major.I aced all of her classes not because I'm smart but because I did all the homework, kept at it,and was persistent. She makes math fun and explains it till EVERYONE gets it.Don't be intimidated to ask her questions!!!She's awesome!
Ms. Castellon is the BEST! She is VERY dedicated to her students. She comes in on Saturdays to help her students. If you want to learn, take her class!
The only reason why people are saying negative things about this wonderful teacher is most likely because they are lazy. Those ignorant students should not be in college. Anyways, take Miss Castellon. She is smart, nice, treats ALL students equally, and is a teacher that actually makes you learn.
it seems very obvious that the same person wrote the last four ratings. Ignorant people are usually in lower levels of math, including math 125. You'll probably understand how hard she becomes if you take her after algebra 2 for 260 or 245. She sucks. There are about 15 people now. Can't stand her.
I am taking her class this semester and I don't have a problem with her. You should go to class. She is always in her office if you need help. You don't have to wait for her office hours.

very bad ,if you don't care you GPA you can try to take her class
I highly recommend Ms. Castellon to any student serious about school she is one of the GREATEST instructors ELAC has to offer. She goes well beyond the call of duty even scheduling + conducting tutoring sessions during her personal time. In this class you earn a grade not get a grade!
Yes, she does give intimidating tests, BUT she's really good at teaching the material. It's not easy to earn an A, you actually have to use your brain, and you DO learn. Study hard for her tests, because they are tricky. With that said, I would definitely recommend her.
here, i'm not referring to the students that have taken her for high school math (Below algebra 2 including algebra 2). Seriously, she's hellishly hard for precalculus, and I believe she wants this reputation. Her exams for this level of math are ridiculously hard, despite that it is only advanced algebra. Please avoid if you want to learn and an A

taking her class for precal is a pain in the ass. sometimes she is nice but most of the time she is ****y. she gives a lot of homework and does not explain everything in it. Her test are exaggerated, too hord. if u want to get a good grade take someone else.
She gets in these "god made me, and I am a mathemetician that makes you need me!! She drinks too much coffee and is overly exaggerated with her homework and tests . She teaches one chapter but is still testing you on the previous chapter 2 weeks later so it totally confuses you!!!
She's very intimidating. The tutoring session was on her own terms. The tests were given at the end of class.I had my mind set on her.I did well at Cerritos College of taking Math 80A equivalent to 125.Ms.Castillo is an A+.The instructors at Cerritos College are tutorors also.Ms.Castellon,well I rate her an F-.She brings alot of her "doggies."
The problem with taking any math class,is there is no study tool, besides a cd.Ms.Castellon brings in her "doggies" into the picture to illustrate or her past relationship of her ex-.That's very bad.Don't question who is Cesar Chavez? She will make the class to turn in a paper pertaining his history and math. Her lecture:1.5;her complexion:a big 10+.
The best math teacher ELAC has. She will prepare you well for the next level of math. Will take extra time if you are lost during the lecture and she will make sure you are back on track. Oh one thing she does not like cheaters. You will learn much…
This is a great instructor if you really want to learn and understand basic algebra. She does make you do a lot of work but it helps you get the math - not just pass the class. You'll easily remember the concepts come test time. Also - she is enthusiastic and professional and I hope she teaches my next math class!
You could pass this class if you had 1/2 a brain and had already taken math 125, which u are supposed to do. Most of the time I'm spacing out and always pass her quizzes with A's, and her exams can be difficult at times but just do the hw and you'll be Ok. And just pay attention to all the examples from class and ask questions. She is a good teach
Her tests are hard. She's very sarcastic and at times a ****.
Ms. Castellon .....Oh my gosh!!! she is an awesome teacher. But....yes she gives too much homework and never lets you out a minute early. I still think she rocks because she don't want to cheat you from an education that others wish to have. I so recommend this teacher to WHO wants to learn the foundation of math or the concept of each problem.
I was really disappointed. She went off on tangents and the test had nothing to do with the material she covered. There was little to no hands on which is one of the best adult learning methods to utilize. We did not have enough time to soak in the activity before she jumped to another topic.
She's great! take her for all your math classes! She makes math EASY to understand, but you do have to do lots of homework.
Not 2 much hw, 3 MUCH hw, a test every week, something completely different from what she teaches you, and writes too hard with the chalk. But she is nice and willing to help, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK HARD.
Very hard teacher! She gave a lot of homework, online work & the tests were not related to the work. I had to drop; very disappointed.
Very difficult teacher...dont like her attitude & she thinks she's a genius & makes you feel very small. Dont recommend her at all!
She's a good teacher if you need help she's happy to help. The only thing is that she gives a lot of homework and her test are hard
Ms. Castellon is an excellent professor! She is very dedicated to helping students understand the material. If a student needs additional assistance, she stays afterwards(even during her lunch time!) She even holds special exam reviews on weekends to assure that everyone has the opportunity to learn. ELAC needs dedicated professors like Ms Castello
THE BEST LEGS ON ANY FEMALE TEACHER THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN WOWEE CASTELLON IS REALLY A SKILLED INSTRUCTOR VRY ORGNZED DOES NOT INTIMIDATE U WILL LRN AS SHE DOES GIVE GOOD EXPLANATION ON PRBLM SOLVING YES LOTS OF HW TESTS R HRD OVERALL WORTHY OF RECOMMENDATION AND IF U FIND HER HRD GO GET SOMEONE THAT WIL NOT MAKE YOU EARN THE GRADE YOU REALLY DESERV
She is NICE! teacher however, her test are very hard but she will make you want to show up to class VERY NICE MS. CASTELLON.
EXPLAINS MATERIAL IN AN EXCELLENT MANNER. I HIGH RECOMMEND HER.
She a hot teacher. She gives alot of homework and her test are hard. She is always late to class and never lets the students out early. She never gives back the tests the next meeting she always forget to bring the test back so u can see your results. Most of the time its takes 2 weeks to get ur test back.MY NUMBER 26 I RATE VERY HONESTLY!
Don'take her. I don't know where all these people that like her come from...(I bet she's the one who wrote most of the good ratings). Come on, what student will say "She gives hard tests and has an attitude most of the time...but take her she's great." I found her to be soo strict, to the point where student fear her and avoid asking her any questi
I insulted your intelligence? Are you ready for a hard test?Did I ever tell you the Carl's Jr. story?
MS CASTELLON IS ONE OF THE BEST MATH TEACHERS I HAVE HAD. SHE IS INTERESTING, AND CARES FOR THE STUDENTS. I JUST LOVED, LOVED HER CLASS.
She is easy and a nice teacher. She really know how to teach. I recomment you to take her.
she is a great teacher. "fractions are your friends" she is the best teacher i took. if you dont think she was easy they go back to kinder. if you want a good grade you must take her
She was really hard. You could not use ANYTHING but a $1 calculator on tests. She reminds me of an 80's girl. "Zero you said?" Her hair is scary. It needs to be washed. And her heels are irritating.
Ms. Castellon is incredibly attractive. As physically beautiful as she is, it is her positive attitude and ingenuity, which make her, by far, the most compelling professor ever. She's great. Don't let the fact that she is extremely pretty intimidate you. Take her!
She defenetly has favorites, especially the useless people that were mentioned below. she does not care about the students and she lets you know that in class to everyone. she needs a makeover!!!! fix the hair and get rid of the dresses and high heels!!! she looks better in jeans!!!!
great instructor. maybe does have a little too many fav's but she teaches really good and she is really patient on the word problems.
The best legs? Really? How about: teachers are supposed to be nice and not talk crap about other people-- students or teachers. People's feelings can get hurt, even by offhand remarks. Aren't teachers supposed to encourage others to be their best?
no extra credit, quize on every monday but drop the lowerst three. will be able to go to campus early in the morning to do aa review with students on the test day. I recommend she for students who really want to learn and will be able to put in lots of hard work.
I have taken her twice, I like that she takes her time, but hate the fact that she assigns way to much homework from text book. QUiz every mon first ten min. of class so dont be late!
This professor is a hard worker. She takes her time on explaining you the material. Alot of H.W and very hard tests. But in the end you learn alot (well thats if her body doesnt distracts you). Well rounded professor and extremely smart.
Excellent at teaching math! She was very thorough and had a lot of hands on with students!
I took her for Math 115. I HATE Math but she was cool and funny when teaching. I remember she loved dogs too like I do so that was nice. She explained things well and gave extra credit assignments which helped. I managed to pass with a C which is good enough for me because Math is not my subject at all.
She is very consitent and fair. If you do poor on one exams, she will allow you to re-take the exam. The only thing that I dislike is when she writes so fast. She will quiz you so do your homework. If you stay focus, review math problems, then you should be able to pass her class with a descent grade.
I don't like her. stubborn and tough.. too many homework that makes you have no time to focus on other courses. she has no idea that math can be done in many different ways. i still don't understand why a math teacher need an hour to solve a stupid problem that i can get the answer in 5 min.
hands down,WORST professor during the winter break. She expects you to do tons of h.w.(300+a week) and then expects you to quiz, and test everyday. Probably best during a regular semester. OH!! and she says stupid childish phrases and talks about her life stories like you care?!!!
Quiz almost everyday, therefore attendance mandatory. Makes math relatable and fun!Don't take if you cant put in the time for hw/study. Tough but FAIR!Drops lowest 7 quizzes. The child phrases that R referd are like ways to rembr ways to do 4 example:matrices. Really helpful. Finals are cumulatative. Helps understand CONCEPTS of math.
great professor, hands down one of the clearest professors you will have. if you are lazy then dont take her, she will give you tons of opportunities to succeed, its up to you to take them. i am not good at math at all but she made it understandable. i took her in winter and i easily understood her class even if it was only 5 weeks.
do not take her
I love this teacher!!! If you don't want to do the work, then don't take the class. She's very helpful and will help you through the difficult parts. She gives a lot of homework, but how you gonna learn if you don't practice!? Common sense people!
great instructor
Goes way too fast, skips steps. If you ask a question she makes you feel stupid like everyone should know as much Math as she does (has a PhD in Math). Not helpful or approachable. Ridiculous office hrs. Rude, arrogant, sarcastic comments irrelevant to Math. Tests & quizzes totally different than HW & notes. Extremely hard grader. DO NOT TAKE!
Long lectures that take longer than the time in the schedule. No room to ask questions. Tests are not related to HW, HW is mandatory, less than 10% of grade. Does not grade on a curve. Deletes solutions of previous tests from her website before the final. Does not help through email. Strict on grading, make appropriate graphs, legible answers
I won't recommend taking her to anybody. She skips steps in her lectures. The homework she gives out doesn't really help you for the test she gives you. The questions on the test is completely different from what she gives for homework. office hours were ridiculous. But try her if you have no choice.
ahe is a great instructor. She gives lots of homework, but it's worth it! She explains so clear. she is extemely helpful.. I used to come like at 6 am. she would come early just to help me,and explain all over again. Amazing, but if you are looking for an easy A DONT TAKE HER! But if your looking for knowledge, she is the right instructor for u
Seriously?! The homework has NO RELATION WHATSOEVER to the material she teaches in class! You might as well not do any homework at all, it only counts for 10% of your grade! Extremely nit picky and INSISTS on having everything her way, NOT FLEXIBLE AT ALL. If you make a tiny little mistake, BAM WRONG! The only thing you can rely on for the tests and quizzes are your notes, the homework is merely a distraction. I truly regret taking her class. She has a PhD but she is extremely incompetent.
Professor Castellon is something else. She is a nice person if you meet her. But she is not a good professor. Her homework (a lot) has nothing to do with your test or quizess. Taking her is a challenge. I work my head off and got a B.
Horrible horrible professor. Isn't organized enough for the winter semester AT ALL. Of course you'll get the lecture and the way she explains it but her tests and homework aren't related either. She really needs to get it through to he thick head that students aren't going to have all the time in the world just for her class. I work and go to college full time and I don't have time to spend 3 or 4 hours on hw that doesn't relate to the class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. HORRIBLE.
hands down the worst professor i have ever taken.. her hw does not pertain to her tests... her test are way harder and some of the problems on the test she has never even gone over.... I'm surprised that she doesn't fail the whole class.
Uses childish analogies (apples/oranges stuff) and lures you into a false sense of security with her nice demeanor that the class is going to be easy. The material is simple, and she teaches it well. THE TESTS ARE HARD. Expect to work with 4 digit numbers and fractions often. Practice the material using big numbers and you'll be fine.
I find it a joke how she teaches math. How can you give out homework from out the book and notes from the book. Yet she gives you test that are completely alien to what you study on your notes and homework. I understand if you give hard test and give hard homework. I totally agree with other ratings that her homework and test being very different.
This professor is on a whole other level with how rude and un-approachable she is. I had tried to take her for winter session and let her know I would have to be absent and she told me to drop the class. She doesn't work with you and she tries to act as if she's nice but she's not. She is really arrogant, rude, and unprofessional. DO NOT take her!
If you do all of your homework and study really really hard you probably still wont pass her test. Since they have nothing to do with the easy homework in the book. I have NO problem taking a hard test as long as I have a teacher who is willing to teach me, and prepare me for that level
You can study all you want but your not going to pass her test. If your good at math and studied this subject prior to taking her class congratulations you MIGHT pass her class. She is rude, I dont think she means to be mean its just her personality. I would be like her also if I ever get a PHD in math, if your sticking with her goodluck.
Those who say she is not a good teacher are just mad because they didnt pass! She is the best math instructor I have taken in my life! She worries a lot for her students, she is ALWAYS available! always email you back even with the solution for a problem, step by step Tons of homework, but if you do it, you are going to do go in the test!GOT A FAT A
She does not belong in community college! Her nice demeanor disguises her no tolerance for late & half-assed work. She'll give you the zero, no questions. Be ready to work for your grade! The online hw will be a hard, but it really helps on the ridiculously hard tests. Fractions & big numbers are specialties. Time&effort are a must to pass!
Her method of teaching is a huge disservice to students. Her lectures and homework are standard but once she gives out the exams and quizzes your in for a world of hurt. I think she should teach the same way she gives out test and quizzes that would prepare you more but she wont. I would recommend not to take her class during winter or summer.
No matter how much you study and break your head studying, her daily quizzes and tests are hard and will not pass. Do not take her during winter or summer
Upside: Dr.Castellon is a good math teacher, very clear in her explanation, you will get it. Downside: Winter session IS SUPERFAST! 1 chapter per day. TONS & TONS of homework. Quiz every day, if not, you will have a test. Expect fractions & Big numbers. DEFINITELY NEED TUTOR to pass if you are not at Math. Avoid Winter/Summer if you are slow.
I've lost my confidence after taking this class. I am not lazy and I study, but I did not get an A. I always think that if you work hard, you can get an A, but apparently not so. I am trying to recover from this and I am nervous about my Spring classes now.
If you want to stress over doing so much homework and studying all night to fail the quizzes and tests then this is the right class. The homework is simple and her lectures are pretty easy to understand, but when it comes to the tests and quizzes, it's a completely different world. I do not recommend taking her class if you want to struggle.
Comes into class into with a sarcastic tone and say "Good morning". As she lectures you will always get a sarcastic answers if you ask a question. If she doesn't think the class is participating she will lecture really fast so you have to ask questions(participating),then she makes you feel dumb for asking! Horrible! Too much work, not enough time!
I HAVE TO AGREE WITH MOST OF THESE COMMENTS.THE HOMEWORK SHE ASSIGNS AND WHAT SHE TEACHES IN CLASS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IS ON HER TESTS!I DID ALL THE HOMEWORK AND NEVER MISSED CLASS,I SPENT NIGHTS STUDYING AND REVIEWING BUT I ENDED UP WITH A "D" IN THE CLASS :( I WOULDN'T TAKE HER AGAIN.
Not a very good teacher I can't believe a teacher would give easy homework and lecture notes and give you completely hard test. I won't mind if she gives hard homework and lecture notes. I find her teaching to be a great disservice to education as a whole. You are asking for a lot of trouble if you decide to take her.
If you are lazy and expect to pass her class with little to no study at all then just don't bother, If you truly are a person who gives effort and time then you shouldnt have a problem passing her class. Yes her tests are pretty difficult, but then again this is college not grade school. Over all a great professor who actually challenges you.
Dr. Castellon is an excellent COLLEGE professor. She challenges us to our full potential. She goes above & beyond to make sure her students get high quality COLLEGE education in order to succeed in school. Those complaining need to re-take basic math:big #'s, fractions;stop procrastinating & asking help at last minute. Communicate & you will learn.
The thing is about this teacher is she'll teach you the very basics of precal, but however she doesn't prepare you for her class. Yes she can teach to a point but I don't understand if your such a great teacher why do you give easy homework that doesn't prepare your students for the types of questions your going to give on the exams.
Trust me if the math is not your cup of tea..don't take her class.I WON'T TAKE HER CLASS AGAIN!Honestly she was nice...but teaching was not good. Especially for those who are not good at math... don't take it...
I strongly do not recommend her class. Her lecture is boring and not exciting at all. You will see that only less than 10 students would come to her final exam. She makes up her own homework for you and won't help you correct it. quizzes are assinged in each week. quizzes or exams are totally different world from her lecture. Make you struggle
She basically expects you to know it all. A lot of work. Took it on winter 2014
Dr. Viviana Castellon is what she is, a doctor in advanced mathematics! Show interest in her class and she will take grading considerations with you but do not expect to pass her math class with a C- if you are a procrastinator or if you rather be on your phone rather than math class . She helps you work for your grade by pushing you.
This professor teaches the easiest problems in class but then creates the hardest problems for the test and daily quizzes. I do not recommend taking her for any Math class. She will put any random problem from the chapter on the test even if she did not teach you how to do it in class.
She's a good professor. Explains most things. Be ready to have quizzes almost everyday I'm not even joking. Shes is also ruthless. Nonetheless i wouldn't recommend this teacher
I took her class in the Winter Semester and she is the hardest professor I ever had. Be prepared to take daily quizzes and to work your tail off with her. Not only does she give daily quizzes, she gives weekly tests, she gives a lot of homework, and her tests are really hard. She explains the material well but study really hard to pass her class
i regret taking this class. So fast paced! Gets angry when you ask a question she doesn't like. If you are late to class she doesn't let you takes quizzes! Expect a lot of quizzes!! She's very rude and I was scared to ask for help. Regret taking this class so much she ruined my gpa first class i failed !!!! ever and i am a dedicated student !!!
she's a good teacher and doesn't make the class boring, but she tries to make the quizzes and exams as challenging as they can be. i went to tutoring very often and still couldn't pass some exams.
Dr. Castellon is a very inspirational teacher who loves what she does, but won't tolerate those whom are not willing to learn. Expect quizzes every week and tests every two weeks or depending on how long she takes to finish the chapter. If you're a procrastinator OR math is not your favorite subject I would suggest not to take her class.
Castellon isn't a horrible teacher, but she would not be my first choice. She expects you to be great at all aspects of math leading up to taking 125, and if you don't, you're in trouble. She is nice at times, but would also put students on the spot and embarrass them. Uses Math XL and her tests are tough. Take great notes and hope for the best
I would of gave her a better score on helpfulness but i couldn't because her office hours are at 6am. If you ask a question she makes you feel dumb. As a teacher you should never talk down on your students, even if they ask a dumb question you're there to "help" them. Her lectures are easy to understand but test are hard! Study the hardest problems
She is a very funny, sarcastic woman. I feel like she was once an elementary school teacher; she makes everything so clear. Her quizzes are extremely easy and short (2 q's usually) but get to class early or you'll miss out on them. I came to class late a lot and missed some. Lots of extra credit, easy grader, and drops the lowest quiz and test.
I took this class in 2015 and this class had to be the single most worse class experience I have ever had. The professor would teach the material using simple example problems. The daily quizzes were easy but the tests were ridiculously difficult. Since your grade is mostly determined through test scores, I had to drop the class.
Dr. Castellon is the best math professor at ELAC. She is dedicated to teaching and making sure students understand the material. Her lectures are amazing and easy to understand. She is a very tough grader, but she makes me fall in love with mathematics again and again every time I see her.
Took Dr. Castellon for Winter 2016, she is a very energetic professor. Her lectures can be long, she makes every problem up or uses her textbook sometimes. She doesn't require a textbook and makes you use Math Xl. During winter we had about 100-200 problems per chapter. She did 2 chapters a week. Fast Pace. Her test are really similar to her hw.
She was one of the professors i took when i went to ELAC. She is a really good teacher that helps you understand in a silly cute way. I struggled in the class because i am bad at math and i didn't ask for help, so ask for help if you need it! She is very nice and will try to make you laugh from time to time, i enjoyed the class. I recommend her! :)
She is rude . She loves making you feel dumb
I took castellon twice for the same subject. The first time i failed/D but that was because i wasn't focused and wasn't able to really apply myself, but the second time i got an A! She is very helpful if you ask for the help and her lectures are very clear. She can be a little condescending at times but if you participate in class that'll change.
Her test are 10x harder than hw. I would never take her class again.
I like the way she teaches, but she gives a lot of quizzes and tests, and those quizzes and tests are difficult than she taught. One thing make me feel very uncomfortable is she thinks everyone is going to cheat.
She gets easily frustrated with students who do not grasp the concept of her teaching methods, and if you dare to ask questions about a problem, she WILL look at you if your'e some type of an ill-intelligent person. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU'RE BAD IN MATH! IF YOU LOVE MATH, PREPARE TO HIRE SOME TUTORS!
It is very true. She makes up problems on the spot for her lectures which wouldn't be a problem considering the homework is similar, however, the weekly quizzes (worth the majority of your grade, as there is no homework) are much, much more difficult than anything she has us learning in lectures.
Horrible professor! Don't take her class. Lectures are okay but not helpful when it comes to the quizzes and exams. Small mistakes will cost you a lot of points. Sometimes she can be really rude and her jokes are not funny at all.
I have to agree with most of the comments made of this professor. Lectures are very easy to understand. She uses very easy examples from the book but when it comes to quizzes and exams, she likes to complicate things for students. The very minimal mistake will cost you a lot. Good lady but not the best math professor at ELAC.
I have to agree with most of the comments about her. Her lectures are simple and clean. She does a very good job of breaking everything down step by step, but it is not enough to prepare you for the quizzes and the tests. Overall she is very nice professor, but not really the best instructor.
this teacher was probably the worst teacher i ever had and to be honest i do not even know how she is teacher you barely knows the material and her lecturers are horrible i wouldn't recommend FOR ANY ONE TO TAKE HER CLASS...
I took her for 260 and 241 in the same semester. Shes an excellent teacher, in my opinion. The notes and lectures we took in class prepared me for the homework and for the quizzes. That being said, the tests are quite difficult, and you have to go out and seek harder problems to study that the book doesn't give you. NOT FOR THE LAZY.
She won't give you tests back but final is cultivate. According to her, problems looks like exercise on book so we don't need ex tests;( She's worst and she doesn't respect to students especially for asians. I recommend you not to take her class strongly. She's not professional.
The worst.. makes tests too long and doesn't provide enough time. Actually yells at someone and then reverts to smiling as if nothing happened. Pretty sure she wants to be a cougar the way she dresses lul she brings fishnets and really low cut dresses. I think the lecture would be good if it prepared you for the test but it doesn't.
She is best of Math prof. of ELAC. She ever recommend scholarship and many things. Her test is not too much difficult if she have more time. Her lecture is clear.
She is clear with her lectures but she does move really quickly. Do not get on her bad side, she will call you out if she sees you on your phone and makes you sit next to her if she suspects you cheating. I understand her lectures, but they are just to fast for me, not enough time. Do not take if you have a hard time with math like me.
She offers NO Extra credit. Tests are difficult her lectures are clear but your basically on your own as her test are not multiple choice or open book its you know it or die trying because she will downgrade you to an "F" even with best effort wont be taken for consideration so if math is not your best subject save yourself take someone else.
Her reviews are bad, but I took her winter 2018 and she was so patient inside and outside class. She uses colors to separate steps and nifty tricks and comparisons to smoothies for radicals for example! Math is incredibly hard but she really prepared me for college algebra. I learned so much and she was patient. I recommend giving her a chance!
I don't recommend taking her if you aren't in the habit of reading the textbook. She takes concepts she doesn't necessarily teach and puts it on the test. I found her notes and lecture helpful (she color codes), but I wouldn't necessarily take her again. If you do take her STUDY.
She moves quickly during lectures. Her quizzes and her tests are tricky and deceiving and are not comparable to the examples she does in class. She does not teach the material properly as she does not give definitions or terms. She spends all class doing problems on the board and doesn't give students a chance to try. STEM Majors Avoid!
You will only pass if you study the material yourself. She uses simple examples in class and expects you to solve compex problems on exams. She makes the class unnecessaryly difficult (used nauticals for triangle lengths?). Would give work to the SI coach that had nothing to do with upcoming quizes so expect a lot of self studying.
The lectures are easy and interesting, but the tests are difficult/Most students have low test grades/Many homework/Strict rules/Dont worry quiz, its easy.
Her lectures are interesting, and easy to follow, unfortunately she doesn't cover everything that will be on the test in the lectures. My advice is to do problems on your own don't rely on her homework packets for practice, and GO TO SI SESSIONS. Quizzes are a breeze though, so that's an upside.
One of the best professors I have ever taken. I never felt such inspiration from a professor. Although her quizzes and exams can be tough, it is up to the student to do the work. She really goes out of her way for her students and even conducts office hours in order to help students with any questions they may have. I definitely recommend her!
Lots of notes are covered during class. Copying the notes from someone else won't be enough to understand them since she moves on to the next material quickly. Seriously, do not be ABSENT. Tests have the hardest problems from the chapters, so lots of self studying is needed. The homework assignments are very long, be ready to spend hours on them.
Her way of teaching is amazing and very clear, however, not enough time on quizzes despite understanding the material, which will lower grade. There are no exceptions for quizzes or to make up hws. Another grade decrease. She makes everything unecessarily difficult and almost sets you up for failure.
She is a good teacher and her lectures are clear, you will understand it but she does move really quickly, and she likes to make her tests very complicated. I took her for the same class twice, I did not pass the first time but I did the second time since I already knew her way of teaching. Hopefully that says something lol. you will need to work!
" not that bad? " you thought. She treats her students as If they were children. Her homework assignments are nothing compared in terms of taking quizzes/exams and chooses the hardest topics/concepts. She teaches really fast with the material and continues on with the next. Although her teaching is not that great at teaching, she is really nice.
Like any math class you will have to commit an ample amount of time into the work she gives you. She color codes problems on the board and will answer questions students may have. She wants class participation, she won't like a class that remains absolutely quiet. As always, don't just do the work, understand it and ask questions when you don't.
Castellón is an amazing professor. Her lectures go at a good pace and she really goes through every example slowly and engages students in her lecture, she will wait until the entire class understands. She teaches a lot of back ground information that you dont need, but it helps grasp the material better. Tests are very hard, study study study.
She would seperate every problems using diffrent markers which makes every step understandable but sometimes skip some steps as well. but then give the hardest one she can think of in the test which she never goes over. Pop quiz every week. Shes very strict. Her explanation to the class is confused. Get away from her!!!
I took her during winter semester and it was sooo much harder than I was expecting. Lots of homework that isn't worth much. She will not accept anything late. She is a tough grader. There isn't much extra credit. Teaching style isn't very organized. Nice person, but a harsh teacher, would not recommend if you struggle in math.
Professor Castellon has a good lecture, very understandable and organized. She teaches you the easy examples in class and gives the hardest during the exam but they are from the review and test at the end of each chapter in the book. Her homework is a lot and you really don't have time to do her homework and study for the test.
She is very quick in her lectures and explanations which makes very challenging to comprehend the lesson completely. There is very little to none student participation in the lectures. I guess that's how her game is.
Dont get me wrong castellon is a great professor. She explains things well with her colored coded markers but her examples in class are COMPLETELY different than the ones on her quizzes , exams and homework. I get it , its math youre suppose to spend some time but like how if youre confusing me so much more. Dont take her
ABOID AVOID AVOID. She is very inflexible and not understanding for her students. She makes using the proctorio extension harder than it needs to be and does not give chances to students with technical issues or issues with the system. She talks bad about other students and gets frustrated easily. Take anyone else.
Do NOT take at all costs!!! Especially online, she is not specific with what she wants and will dock points for the most petty reasons. I tried asking her for clarification and she did not help at all, responding in a condescending manner. Absolutely do not recommend for a student trying to actually learn in a comfortable environment.
I would not recommend you take this class. Her lectures are longer than they should be and most of the stuff she goes over don't really appear on the quizzes or homework. She is very picky about the way you take your quizzes; she watches the proctorio recordings and if you don't follow her instructions she will give you a zero. Choose someone else.
She sets you up for failure. She likes her student to fail. She teaches easy problems in the lecture and gives you the hardest issues on quizzes and tests. NEVER take her find someone else. No considerations
By far the worst teacher I have ever had in my 13 years of public education. Talks bad about other students and slanders their political beliefs as well. An absolute monstrosity of a professor in every sense of the word. If there are no other teachers available other than this abomination, just skip the class entirely.
Her lectures provides no assist for her quizzes and exams. Gives out so much homework and just started requiring classwork to be turned in in the last 10-15 min of class; meaning she expects you to complete a number of questions (which some require upload from phone) in a matter of 10-15 minutes. Very strict on Proctorio platform. Non-lenient.
The lectures she provides do not meet the difficulty of the problems she presents in tests and exams. Does not attempt to resolve the question you may have and will provide an answer she deems appropriate to your question. Heavy amount of homework, just wouldn't recommend.
The tests questions were harder than the homework and practice. We copied examples she would write on the board, and hardly taught the math concepts themselves. That's how her lectures were. As a result, the steps are very easy to forget. We would have a lot of homework. Going to office hours won't be enough to pass her class.
If you are planning to take this class be prepared for quizzes every Monday and tests as they giveyou little time to study, so much homework and the practice questions where nothing like the quiz/Test questions as they where much harder, they expect too much if you miss more than 2 or 3 days you will get dropped : quizzes were worth 100 points
Don't take this teacher. She teaches well for stuff that isn't in tests/ quizzes/ or even homework related. God forbid you go online to even try to get the answer for your homework online because she makes you use proctorio FOR YOUR HOMEWORK.
All exams are harder than classes, and she never gave us to practice.
I don't know what's harder or more boring to understand, her lectures that go way too fast, or why I look more like the mailman than my father. Asked us to write down how she could teach better, and took into consideration for only two days. Glad I dropped it, her "examples" made no sense, and at least I don't wake up dreading to go to class.
She uses proctorial which I feel like it is uncomfortable especially when the class is online with live meeting. The professor could have just used Zoom to make sure that the student instead of using proctorial. If you feel comfortable using proctorial while taking online class with her you could do it. This was in 2020.
She does not do a good job in preparing for tests or homework. Despite her lectures being somewhat manageable to follow along with, there is little to almost no student participation. Nothing she goes over lecture is shown on either the homework or tests, so its best to take another professor for this class. Petty too when grading.
Professor Castellon is a great lecturer and was able to make the lessons very clear but her tests didn't reflect the content gone over in class. Despite knowing the content, her grading process made it difficult to receive anything higher than a D on exams. Before I dropped the class, almost everyone, with the exception of 1 student, was failing.
Do not take there is a reason she has so many bad reviews.
She does well in explaining course materials, the homework does well on reflecting that as well. The issues many people have is that the grading is reflected on her test, 65% of her grading is tests. Most of the questions in the test are not on topic with information given in the previous lectures
she's terrible just wait for other professors..
This professor is very terrible. The course is not hard, but it becomes so hard in her course.
Difficult test on the first week, HW on scantron with mostly 100 questions to finish in 3 days, does not accept late work at all, 65% of your grade are tests with questions she didn't go over on a strict time limit. Gave us an opportunity to retake any test but did not tell us until finals when it was too late. Gives detailed instructions, however.
The course material was not too difficult, but this professor's teaching approach made it challenging. While the lectures aimed to explain concepts, the tests were not well-aligned. Unstuck study helped me prepare, but I wouldn't take this course again.
Her lectures are miserable, the way she explains the content is weird and annoying, seems personable but will get weirdly condescending about random things. Probably not the worst math professor at ELAC but absolutely avoid if you're able to.
Don't do it. The tests do not reflect the HW or lessons and contain questions that are much more advanced than anything she covers. I only passed bc I noticed that the test questions were similar to the most difficult questions in the textbook. I took this class years ago (I have my B.S. now) and I'm still traumatized.
FYI: Took this class as a 5 week summer class. She is a nice teacher but tests are way harder than what she goes over in class/homework. We started with 15 students, dropped to 3 and by the end of the class, I was the only student that received higher than a C. She doesn't take into consideration my efforts and circumstances. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!
I did not take math for a while and I failed my first test. But I started to go to SI, office hours, and even extended office hours which helped a lot. You have to put in the work and I recommend practicing problems from the textbook to practice for the tests. I passed that class and she was very patient even though I asked a lot of questions.
