Funny guy, can't teach...
I couldn't understand a word he was saying and he yelled at students if they didn't know answers to his questions

what should be a simple, gen ed fulfulling course becomes a stressful, pointless, and hopeless ordeal when this man is the instructor. simply put, he is far too intelligent to be teaching a low level course, and is unclear, hypercritical, and out of plac
This pro is one crazy dude. As for the difficulty of the class... he gave us a COMPLETE outline for the exams.

Very hard to understand. Funny, nice guy. But not a good teacher. I was able to pass... but not because I learned the math.
STAY AWAY!! He couldn't explain himself out of a tin can. He creates his own methods and leaves out the important steps. I have never been more confused in my life!
awful!!

crazy crazy russian
This guy doesn't have a very good grasp of the English language...I don't think he knows what he's telling the students sometimes.
Accent takes awhile to understand. Good guy and teacher.
I took his linear algebra class at URI. This man is a genius! He has a love for mathematics and it SHOWS in his teaching! Sometimes in his lectures there is a cultural disconnect (i.e. Russian vs. American) and he is misunderstood.
unclear, doesn't teach concepts and gets upset when students don't understand. doesn't come prepared to class, uses students calculators instead of bringing his own.
his class is passable but difficult...hardly teaches and is to smart for the book. Has good intentions but the language barrier ruins it. He does give all the test questions with different numbers right before the test tho....which of course helps you pass
His MTH108 class is SO EASY! I stopped going on Fridays and I passed with a 100. No homework, just 3 tests (unless you do bad you have to take the final) I got a 100 on every test and hardly went to class.
I only went to class about once a week and I got an A- which was good enough to not take the final... he's Russian so he can be really hard to understand but the material is so easy that if you're not a complete idiot, you'll be fine
He is good hearted and cares about the students but he can be hard to understand. If you put in the effort he is not too bad.
I thought this class was pretty easy overall. I think he's a good teacher, and his accent really isn't that bad. This class really isn't too difficult and I think that the book was pretty clear, plus he gave us exactly the kind of questions that would be on every exam, which rocked.
hard to understand but is a very caring person
This guy is just fun to watch. He wanders around the classroom and mumbles vaguely to the class for the whole period. He's always talking about "mutual satisfaction" which is ambiguous at best, but he's referring to his happiness being determined by students' good grades. Overall: easy grader, strong accent, disorganized, funny.
I love Dobrush!
He Is The Man, Big Scale At End,
This is the coolest guy you could hope to teach your math class, especially if you're not good at math like me. Great sense of humor, and is willing to help when you need it. If you only need one math class, take his.
totally take that class. easy A

Nice uy, cares about students. Doesn't exactly teach, just puts examples out of the book on the board. You pretty much teach yourself. Speaks english with a thick Russian accent. Other than the language barrier, he is a great guy.
Doesn't speak english... basically if you are motivated enough to teach yourself math, then take this class. But if you need a teacher to help you understand things, this isnt for you.
Horrible at explaining topics. Gives very poor, and unorganized notes...if any at all. More often no notes at all. He basically talks alot for someone that doesn't really say anything at all.
Don't take his class if you want to be taught.
difficult class, changed style of teaching half way through bc class was lost, way too much information for one semester class but thats just calculus. manditory HW, no partial credit on tests, tough, easy to get lost if you dont put effort, he cares about students but isnt the best calc teacher. good guy though.
The best word to describe this guy with is RUDE! He is such a jerk to his students, he will criticize you right infront of your classmates. Overall the his exams aren't that bad, and as long as you do the homework you'll do well!
doesnt teach just gives assignments. gets mad when you ask him for help. horrible. dont take his class. even though if you beg him for an A you will get it.
there is no partial credit and if you don't understand that is your problem because he does not teach out of the book!!
Not very clear at all, goes straight out of the book.Would have been lost if didnt take calc in high school.Doesnt answer questions, pretty funny guy though.Randomly asks for homework.
he is a professor and that is his job but he dosen't seem to want to be there at all. he is not understanding, does not explain well and does lisson or awnser questions well!
Is not willing to help his students. His accent makes him difficult to understand and will complain when students do not ask questions. However, when you ask a question he insults you. Difficult to talk to and does not seem willing to give extra help. Only grades from 3 tests/projects. Occasionally came prepared.

horrible teacher! he was not helpful at all! every time i asked a question or asked for help he would ask me how to do the problem. which i obviously didnt know thats why i asked the question in the first place. take any other teacher!
By far the worest teacher that I have had at URI. Makes you feel uncomfortable in class when you want to ask a question, never gives partial credit on tests, which seem are much harder than class work. He doesn't care much about his students, just wants to get in and out of class as fast as possible.
Worst professors ever, has a accent and really hard to understand at first. Gives test just about every class and gives you only about five minutes to complete them, Half I don't even finish. Does not teach from the book makes up his own methods. Please don't take this class it seems easy but this guys an ass.
Nice guy. When everyone failed the first test, the rest of the exams used only homework problems. So, if you make sure you do all the homework problems, and ask him to show the solutions for the ones you didn't get, it's an easy class, although the material is daunting. Also, I'm pretty sure Dobrush could kill a bear with his bare hands.
too hard to understand
He is a nut. I have never met a guy so pissed when you don't know his answer. Doesn't give 1/2 credit if you do the work right. I really do not get it. Maybe If I spoke some Russian I would understand but this guy is almost impossible. All and all if you do the reading you will get atleast a B
don't be scared, really, everyone complains about him but if you can get past the incredibly thick Russian accent, he's actually a really funny guy, I hate math and its my favorite class...he does give quizzes out of 10 points almost every other class, but if you pay attention you'll be fine...but if you miss a class its hard to catch up.
my advice to anyone considering taking his class=RUN! He is not all that bad if you go to every single class and pay attention. he is unwilling to help with any questions & yells at you belittling you infront of the class if you do. He also has a very thick accent and is hard to understand.
Judging by everything I read on here about him, I was terrified to take his class. It is actually my favorite class now. Basically, you get out of it what you put into it. He is actually a pretty funny person, and I have never really seen him belittle anybody for asking a question.
Funny guy who if he likes you it makes your life easy. Im in his 108 class now and we joke around about me getting an A,im not really an A student, but right now I have an A in his class and if you do well there is no final.Maybe not the best teacher for learning or the best to understand but if you have a personality you will do well in his class.
Zero partial credit. No lessons. You must read the book and do all the practice problems. Ask questions in class, but be prepared to be ridiculed for not 'understanding'. Tries to hard to make a joke and wastes time in class talking about MIT being superior. Very vague when answering questions and very discouraging
To put it simply, I love him! he is NOT at all as bad as some of these people make him seem. Just do the work, I've never gotten A's in math before (ever), but I'm doing the best in his class right now. Respect him and he'll respect you.
Im telling you right now, this teacher doesn't help you and teaches alot of things out of the book. If you are lucky you will get an 80 and get out of his final but 75%of people fail atleast one of his tests. He will teach you something then yell at you if you do not understand. If you can and I wish I would have known, do not take this class.
Do you want to do the professor's job for them? That's what you do w/ this guy since he never has a lesson plan and only goes over the hw he never collects. You'll basically teach yourself. Class had a quiz every time it met which was extremely stressful. One time sank as low as to say a student did poorly on a test while standing in front of them
This man represents all that is unfair and unjust in the world. He really is the most awful professor at URI. Truly unprofessional, unprepared man. Not a lick of common courtesy. Avoid him like the Plague that he is. He is only "funny" if you are an ass with no self respect.
the worst teacher ive ever had. If you take this class you will learn absolutly nothing. this is a 100 level math class. On the final test 3 students had different answers and he marked them all right. He is an ass and if you take his class expect to do well at first then get screwed. take any other math class
I understand the point of not giving partial credit; it breeds perfection and hard work to understand the material. However there are no lessons. Teaching style is very daunting and he seems to choose favorites early on. He made himself available once for help. But we had to go to BROWN in prov on a saturday, he wasn't there. Avoid him at all cost
HORRIBLE! I took math 108 because I'm not good in math and he did not help at all or answer questions. When you ask for help he gets frustrated with you and gives up. Most unfair and disrespectful teacher I have ever had. Stay away from him, this is the worst teacher I have ever had. As you can see by the other comments it's not an exaggeration
I went first day of class and he made me answer the same questions until I got the answer right. I've never taken Calc!!!! I dropped it the next day, absolute idiot!
Dobrushkin is the man. He is extremely helpful. He is very knowledgeable. He goes out of his way to help you.
Easy grader, did not learn much though. Funniest professor I have ever met.
Worst. Teacher. Ever. Seriously, if you enroll in one of his classes. drop it! The only class I failed in my entire life.
Took "Math for people who don't like math". The class is a bit of a zoo- but Vlad keeps them in line pretty well- very good sense of humor. The material is very basic, but more than half the class will struggle. Somehow he doesn't loose his cool. Go to class, learn the material get an 80avg to miss the final exam. He knows kids & his content area!
Absolute worst teacher that I've ever had. I only went to class twice because I couldn't stand to listen to him for an hour. Doesn't teach anything, just tries to be funny. Class is a waste of time.
I have never enjoyed a class or professor for that matter LESS, in my entire academic career. How anyone could give him a half-decent rating is beyond me. My painstaking efforts to comprehend the material, flawless attendance and genuine attention proved useless. He couldn't care less about his students. Worthless.
RUDE RUDE RUDE!That explains him. Class is out of control (students talking and calling out loud all class.)No control over class.Does not use the text, but teaches own methods; Thus making it hard to learn at home.(1.his accent is thick,2. he makes you feel stupid for asking questions.) URI should fire him, he is an embarresment to our university.
hes horrible, honestly the worst teacher i have ever had. he makes NO SENSE, he doesn't help students and does not prepare you enough for any exam or text.
Don't take this class.... definately has flaws with grading...I went to office hours for help and he basically just ignored me
He is one of those professors that you kind of have to learn their ways. He is a tough grader, believe that! And you also have to put in 110% but he is a fair grader, and he gives chances to boost up your grade sometimes. He is someone that you have to go the EXTRA two miles to understand the material but a passing grade in that class has never fel
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. In the beginning I had an A. However, I had to miss a class due to an illness in my family. When I asked for help he just ignored me, and I ended up failing the 3rd test. Because of that I had to take the final for which 90% of it was on the last test. From that one test I went from an A to an F.
I have this professor now, I would recommend him if you know the material well enough where you dont need help. Office hours don't really help seeing how he only looks annoyed when you are there. I learned if you do the homework and pay attention to what he says in class you will do fine.
Terrible.
Worst professor ever. Barely speaks English, doesn't care about whether his students understand the material or not. Students walk all over him and we could never get through a lesson in class. DO NOT take this class.
Doesn't really give notes or homework. Hard class to understand when you don't have either of these things. Hard to understand with his accent. Poor teaching style.
This class would be much simlper if he was not the professor. So hard to understand, be prepared to teach yourself. Very nice & funny, but if you want to learn and do well, find another prof.
This class was one of my worst experiences at URI. Once you can understand his thick russian accent you will find that what he is saying still does not make sense. He is rude and unhelpful to students and his grading system is unexplainable. I would never recommend this class to anyone.
The material was extremely hard and difficult to understand. Daily quizzes were given and explained. Exam questions were drawn directly from these quizzes. The professor made it easy to pass this difficult course. Ample extra credit was offered as well as a take home exam worth 20% of grade! You WILL WORK to pass this class. Be ready for it!
Language barrier. Sometimes he is incomprehensible. Lessons don't make sense. Work starts out easy but by the middle of the course it is virtually impossible to understand. Most of my friends failed this class or received a c- or lower. Refuses to do extra help.
Worst teacher I have had so far. Did absolutely nothing to help his students or make sure they do well in his class. You would think a college professor would want his students to do well. Did not give you serious answers to questions. Really made me angry and I dreaded going to this class.
My favorite professor. He keeps class entertaining. Goes at his own pace to make sure that students understand the material. Hands out "entertainment" (quizzes) every class but allows you to use notes and each other to answer the questions. Takes his exams almost exactly off the quizzes.
Probably the worst professor, in terms of teaching, that I've ever had. He's hard to understand and tries to be funny during class but you won't learn a thing .The course material is pretty tough. There are daily quizzes that aren't even graded and no homework, the lecture is pretty much a waste of time. Be prepared to teach everything to yourself
Possibly one of the worst teachers I have had in my life. The fact he still works at URI is shocking. You wont be able to understand him, and whn you ask for help he never truly helps you, only makes you more confused. DONT take a class taught by him.
Dude is the man! jsut got to joke around with him a bit and laugh at his jokes and its easy to get a grade above a B..
He is a very nice guy, but a terrible teacher. He provides virtually no lecture. Also, he is an engineer, not a mathematician. He discusses more with the engineering majors about their statics class than he does talk about calculus.
Nice guy. Helpful if you try your best. Vladimir is a good teacher
Vladimir is a great math teacher I will try to take all my math classes with him! Show up and he will try to help all of you!
The class is so hard but if you go to every class, do the online homework, which there is very little of, you can pass easily. You could be totally failing the class but if you go to him at the end of the semester and tell him you tried your hardest and went to every class (he will know if you really missed class) he will pass you with a high grade
Vladimir made my math experience good, he was helpful and wanted his students to succeed!
Clear language barrier, but it's not too bad. Be open-minded and you'll be fine. Be prepared to teacher yourself and ask for clarification often if you need it. He will help you in class, but not sure about after class. He likes to make jokes; tries to make class not so boring. It's bearable and not too hard. Takes attendance, so come to class.
very strong accent. hard to understand.
When I first got into the class I couldn't understand him for the life of me haha, but once you get used to his Russian accent it's easy to understand him. He honestly just wants everyone to pass so he's a really easy grader. Just go to class and take notes and laugh at his jokes you'll be good.
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. he is adorable. Be prepared to teacher yourself in this class! he is funny but some people in my class get very annoyed with him! I personally think he is a very genuine man who wants the best for his students! Heavy accent but you get used to it. If you do not attend a class you will be LOST
He is a really kind professor. He genuinely cares about the success of his students. There is an extreme language barrier. I did poorly on the first test that had the easiest concepts out of the course because I had not adjusted to his accent yet. He will help you if you need it. I am not a strong math student, I struggle. He does his best to help!
Good quality, great guy
I am terrible in Math and professor Dobrushkin is the best , he help us and assisted us with any question we had . He really cares for his students and overall will work and help you achieve a passing grade! Take advantage of office hours and overall cannot thank him enough for helping me through this class !
He did a lot of examples which helped, but I still had to teach myself most of the material. He did quizzes every class which really brought down my score. His class isn't one where you can skip class and then cram before the exams.
No office hours, slow to respond to emails, changed class schedule one week into class. He is a very nice and funny guy, and seems to be a decent teacher, but his inaccessibility combined with the fact that he wrote a useless textbook made him impossible to learn from.
Guys been teaching for a while and knows how to keep himself amused, it's up to you to follow on the same level. Mainly teaches through daily quizzes (mostly for attendance) so gotta go to class. Makes a lot of jokes, sit in the front he will pick on you. Confusing, but will go very out of his way to answer any questions. Will pass you if you try
If you have no problem with accent you are good. He tries to be flexible with students. Calc 2 is hard course and you cannot blame him for it. I suck at maths but scored A in all my quizzes and first two exams, not sure what I scored in my final. Become friendly and he will be an amazing prof.
He is a little tough to understand. Sometimes he was unclear. But the class itself was one of the easiest math classes I've taken. If you don't like math, take this math class. He is helpful when you ask. But try to be respectful. He wont help you if he sees you not paying attention or sees you on your phone
Doesn't answer questions and gets frustrated when students don't score well on tests but can't explain the grading behind them.
Love this man. Sometimes hard to understand but if you really pay attention and read the book you'll do fine. He is very funny and cares about his students. Math 106 is also one of the easiest classes I've taken, if you get an 80% or higher in the class you don't have to take the final. Highly recommend this class
This guy is so nice, once you start to get used to his accent and how he runs the class you'll realize its the easiest math class in the world. he really wants his students to succeed. Doesnt even give homework, just 3 exams throughout the semester. lets u write formulas on the board too 4 the exam!
Not only is Vladimir very unhelpful, but he gets mad when someone doesn't understand and asks questions. He does not give an partial credit on tests, therefor if you get one thing wrong on a test, the entire problem is wrong. He means well and wants to see his students pass, but if you do not understand the lecture, you're screwed. Avoid this class
Great professor, great personality, always there to help. At first, he was kind of eh, but over a couple weeks he began to grow on me. As long as you LISTEN and ask questions when you do not understand, then you will be fine. His entertainment (aka quizzes) at the end of each class that are solely for understanding purposes are very helpful!
He's a funny dude don't get me wrong but he is very confusing on certain topics. He doesn't usually give partial credit on tests so its often a 100 or a 0. Tests are very hard, probably the hardest thing I've ever taken in my life. Avoid this professor if you can but if you study super hard and make sure to understand him, you will pass.
Have to have the textbook to survive. Taught myself everything. He was confusing.
Professor Dobruskin is a great guy. His tests are very difficult with little to no partial credit. He is very difficult to understand at times and drags out lectures. Very bad with communication via email. Hardly responded to my emails when I was out of class. Nice man, just not a fantastic teacher. Taught myself most of the material.
Basically a self-taught course. Hilarious man, but he cannot teach. He's disengaging and openly expresses his laziness. In one exam, he walked out for a minute and some cheating ensued. He didn't even question the high class avg. despite his saying it would be the hardest exam of the semester. Your best friends will be YouTube and the textbook.
Wants to see individuals succeed, very funny as well. Offered up to 15 points extra credit on overall grade by completing Wiley plus homework and Matlab programming assignments. Prior to tests informed everyone what questions would be on it. Would recommend, only math teacher at URI that an A is not a struggle to achieve.
He's extremely funny but, unfortunately, a poor teacher. He rambles a lot and doesn't explain things too clearly, but makes up for it with A LOT of extra credit/scaling.
Professor Dobrushkin takes a very laid-back approach to this class, which may be alarming and sometimes infuriating at first. However, if you really pay attention in class he breaks things down into very simple terms for you to understand. All of his quizzes are take home as long as you ask him. Exams are exact questions found on those quizzes.
Vlad is the man! He doesn't explain anything in class, but his daily quizzes force you to learn the material. Plus, when he gives exams, he'll up and leave the room for 20+ minutes at a time, so the exams become open book/group exams.
I love him! He's so funny and sarcastic with his accent and all. Here's how the class works: You go to class, take notes (on fairly easy material) and he gives you a quiz at the end of each class. He will let you work with other people on the quiz AND ***HE ONLY GRADES 1/2 OF YOUR BEST GRADES. Exams are short & easy. Don't buy the book !!
Um well that's rude... Vlad should be getting top marks. He's such a bro I adore him as a professor. I ended with a hard A. He's hilarious and sarcastic, and once you get by the accept and actually PAY ATTENTION, you'll get an A. Get to know him, too. He's really cool.
It may be hard to understand him sometimes due to his accent, but he is funny, caring and is always making sure his students will pass his class. He gives extra credit opportunities and gives a quiz at the end of every class (take home) which pushes us to actually learn. Also, half of the quizzes are dropped at the end of the semester.
This guy is awesome. Class is easy if you pay attention. Easy material for the most part.
I found Dobrushkin to be among the worst professors I've had at URI. Lectures are very disorganized and unclear, and he did not seem interested in helping students understand the material. There was no syllabus for the class, and lectures skipped around the textbook with no pattern. Would recommend avoiding him, especially for MTH 215.
Avoid Dobrushkin at all costs. Worst in-class examples I've ever seen, almost no support is given to students. Be prepared to learn CAS software in class and on daily quizzes, only to have 50% of your test made of highly detailed theorems that were never covered -and the book is "not required", so you are expected to learn these from thin air.
Very nice and funny teacher. He entertains the class well but he is very unorganized and doesn't help students well if they are struggling. Great man but terrible professor. He has a thick accent which can be hard to understand. I had to teach myself mostly everything in this class. Classes got out extremely early as well.
He was the WORST professor I have had in all of my years here at URI. You can barely understand his thick Russian accent, and even if you make out the words he is saying, they make no sense! You go to the lecture and leave more confused than when you went. None of the things he teaches is relevant to exams and you end up having to teach yourself.
