this teacher is a very hard one and he has a accent. but if you are a medical major you will want to take his course. his tests are easy if you understand the material and will teach you everything you need to know and nothing else.
Has an accent, hard to understand. Doesnt go over the homework because he thinks its a waste of time.
he is a brilliant man
I'm an auditing student, I found his lectures complex, hw avg, tests easy b/c I already took this course in HS. He's very smart but often confuses the class with all his knowledge. Also has an accent. Do the hw, b/c many questions are on tests.
He has an accent, but u canunderstand him. He really know what hes talking about and the test is based mostly on the homework roblems. He has a great enthusiasm for the course and breaks things down into easy to understand pieces. He also provides great analogies that help you understand better.
He loves, lives, and breathes chemistry. If you are a physical chemistry student, he'll bend over backwards to make himself available to you even if he doesn't do the same for general chemistry. PChem is a very hard topic, but he does his best to get the student to understand, although at times his knowledge of the subject is overbearing.
I think he's hard to understand and he lost me in every class. He's very intimidating. He never went over any HW problems which were always on his tests. His final was pretty easy though. I wouldn't choose him as a professor again..
Terrible english. Says tests are derived exactly from text problems. This would be true if it wasn't for his horrible manipulation of the problems combined with his english problems. He loves to trick students in class. If you can't get an A in the lab you will drown in this class!!!!!
out of all the chemistry professors at post he is the best..but at post i feel one doesnt really have an option of choosing a good chemistry professor since the choices are limited..karp is horrible shields is super duper mean..and then u r only left with fainzilberg..and yea if u have failed his first test just drop the class coz it only gets hard
He is such an ****..He says he takes test problems directly from homework,ha thats bull. the class average=44!.He embarasses the crap out of you in class.. doesn't go over any hw problems either, its not even worth going to class because he doesn't teach anything!!!Hes a very hard grader. The lab teacher should take his place because he sucks!!!
took him last semester and i barely passed so it was my mistake to take him again this semester. i had to drop the class. if you do not do all of the homework and study your butt off everyday then you will do awful.
He is smart we just dont get it
He cannot speak English at ALL and says he doesn't believe in self esteem. He obviously has a distaste for American teaching so he should go back to wherever he came from! He would not sign my form to drop the class so I had to go to the Dean! Try not to take him!
Although it's been years since I've had a class with Dr. Fainzilberg...I still feel as though I should review his teaching style. Prof. Fainzilberg is a FANTASTIC professor. Just because he challenges you does not mean he is a poor professor...just the opposite. You just don't get it. P.S. He speaks better English than most Post students.
Very intelligent guy
Oh come on guys he's not that tough! I read all these comments and thought I was totally going to fail chem when I learned I was going to have him. Turns out he's easier than what people said! I was so surprised to learn I got a B+ for the class. I find chem rather easy! Do the hw problems and I swear the tests will be a piece of cake!
In CHM 3 I did really well, in this class I got a C/C+. He's really a tough guy, and if he's not in a happy mood, he'll surely make it hard for you.
great professor!
very straight forward professor, he lets you know what you have to do from day one. Bottom line if you take notes in his class and do his HW then the class shouldn't be stressful as long as you keep up with thew work
Dr. Fainzilberg, can be tough, but he is always willing to help you, he is willing to work with you and he makes you feel like you can pass even if you are not currently doing well, deep down he is very caring, and his test questions come directly from the hw questions.
This class is not easy, but if you put in the time and effort, it will pay off. Write down EVERYTHING he says, review his notes, and read the chapters. He's a little difficult to understand sometimes, but he repeats things multiple times for clarity. Also, all the problems from the exams comprise the final, just different numbers.
heres the honest truth, i had prof fainzilberg for 2 consecutive semesters, (im a pharm major) and his material is tough, no doubt there, but the test questions are IDENTICAL from the homework, do the homework, ace the test. aside from a few numbers here and there, questions are similar. its difficult, dont take it for granted like most do.
The worst prof I ever had. I tried to go to him for help and he made me wait for hours before saying I cant meet with you. He was terrible and can barely speak english. Exams are difficult and he wouldnt answer questions during lecture. Waste of my time and he failed most of the summer class.
His tests are hard although the hw does help with them. His lectures are confusing and boring. He says he will help and tries to but thinks your an idiot if you dont understand what he is trying to tell you. Will look at you and call you stupid nd tell you to drop the class because your going to fail it and that you have no real use in life.AVOID!
He is HARD! He kmows his material very well but can not translate it into easier terms for you to grasp he also moves at the speed of light with the work. Makes u feel like the dumbest person in the world. I would advise anyone taking chem to take Karp he is very sweet and nice. He also takes his time and break it down for you to understand.
fainzilberg was a great professor! if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. he explains it very clearly. must pay attention in his class... he's actually very easy to follow if you do. exam questions were all from the homework assignments, so that was really helpful!
Definitely knows the material But tends to forget that he is instructing undergrads... Expect to put A LOT of time and effort in order to pass the course
I had Fainzilberg for both CHM 3&4,& for both labs.He is REDICULOUS!can barely understand him speak,& goes too fast through the material. He is not much help & gets a little rude when u tell him u dont get something.I was mad I had him for CHM 4 but he was the only one teaching it!Thank god I passed i wouldnt have been able to go through that again.
Dr. Fainzilberg is a brilliant professor and very helpful. If you have him for lab he will go through the whole lab with you and make it very easy to understand. The only reason he doesn't have so many good reviews is because he doesn't have the best social skills. He will get mad and possibly insult you if you ask something that's dum.
He knows his stuff when it comes to Chemistry, however he isn't very good at translating it into terms that can be understood by beginner chemists. For a grad student level chem course, he would be brilliant, but for chem 3 and 4, its chaotic. Take him for lab, take any one else for lecture.
Very unclear about guidelines. Changes them he sees fit. Not lenient even in the event of an emergency. Would not recommend him.
Tough professor. Challenges you. Lenient grader. Has different teaching methods than most American born teachers. Not a bad guy once you get to know him. My best advice is go to him and have him get to know you, he will be willig to help then.
Lectures are hard to understand. I basically taught myself everything when I would get home. He's a lenient with grading. I recommend him for lab because he explains the whole lab in the beginning. Buy the solutions manual because it will really help you with the course. He may come on strongly but he's very passionate about teaching.
Would never take him for any class again. he was absolutely terrible. Never had such a bad professor
Worst professor I have ever had. I've never struggled with a class like this in my entire life. He gets angry when you ask questions. He barely explains anything. His formula are different from the tb. His tests are impossible. 6 kids in my class are currently withdrawing, 5 are retaking it next semester. And the others don't know what to do
He is an amazing professor, do the homeworks and you will be fine, he really loves to help and he cares about his students.
Here's the deal: he's knowledgable, passionate about teaching, inspirational. He just comes off as harsh.. He's actually trying to challenge you so you can explore the subject with your own mind and see how far you can go on your own. That's his way of teaching but it's only effective if you do your part and work for your grade. That's college.
I took him for both CHM 3 and 4 for both lecture and lab. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR LECTURE. He is hard to understand and his lectures are really confusing. His tests are really hard too,and he doesn't like to give partial credit . However, take him for lab. He explains everything and shows you exactly what you need to do.
Dr. Vladimir Fainziberg is one of the best professors at the institution. Just pay attention in class and do practice problems until you truly understand. If you plan on continuing education in natural sciences he will put things in perspective. He is truly enthusiastic about his teaching and is always willing to help students. (he also tells jokes
I wouldn't recommend this class unless you are prepared to work. It is definitely possible to pass, don't feel discouraged if you do not do amazing at first. Lab helps boost your grade significantly so make sure to attend and complete each lab. Attend each and every lecture, pay close attention, and do the homework!
This professor is not as bad as people make him out to be, in fact I think he is great! He gives great lectures but he can come off as harsh- that is just his personality, he prepares you for the real world. I feel that I have a great grasp on chemistry after his class. Not the easiest professor, but it is worth the work, would take again for sure!
Worst professor I have ever had.
He gives 3 exams and a final. They are very easy if you read and do the homework assignments he gives you. Gives you can opportunity to go over any homework you don't understand and is always available in his office if you need help, assuming hes not in his office.
I am a student that works hard, and I know I am smart, and I usually do well in all my classes, but Dr Fainzilberg is not good at teaching us the material. No one has an idea of what he is teaching. I feel that I am in a Spanish class. He makes chemistry harder than it is. Everyone are doing bad in his class. He raises his voice and yells at us.
It's just so sad to see how everyone is struggling to pass his class. His teaching skills needs improvement. His personality is awkward. He is out of control.
Don't take him. Although he gave out an answer key of the test after the test was over, and other classes taking that exam the next day took advantage of that system, he doesn't teach anything. If your a type of person that wants to learn, don't take him but if you just want a fake A letter grade, take him.
He is old school Russian, a little hard to understand at times. Really loves his students and chemistry. I failed his class because I was over loaded with several upper level math based courses. I still respect the hell out of him, he is a great teacher, he's stern, stern but fair and his door is always open to his students.
I hope this guy goes to hell because he is the reason I dropped out of Chem and taking it now for summer.
He's tough, which would be okay in an advanced chem class. but he teaches basic chem like it is an advanced course, plus he assumes u must dedicate ur entire life to his class. He's rude and embarrassed me in front of the whole class for asking a simple question. If you're good at chemistry, go ahead but if ur like me, stay way.
I never write reviews for profs, but I just had to address how rude this man is. He barks at you like a dog. He genuinely gets off on creating fear and anxiety in students that he perceives as weak/lazy/quiet. Reeks of tobacco too. I don't understand what it is that compels him to continue teaching, honestly, he seems like he despises it.
DO THE HOMEWORKS. THEY ARE THE TEST. That is all.
He makes the whole class anxious about the lab. He doesn't give off a vibe that shows that he's approachable. He will make you feel dumb and want to drop out. His accent makes it very hard to understand him. He smells of tobacco. He is not a great teacher and he makes it seems as if its a burden for him to teach.
Awful teacher, makes everyone in the class feel nervous. Students don't want to answer questions in the class. He does not explain himself well and acts like he hates teaching. The tests are ridiculous and the entire class is failing!
Do the homework when you get home, if you don't actually learn the problems from the hw the test is impossible. Lectures help you understand the hw, problems from hw is the test A is easy its only up to you and he says the same.
The guy is a genius. If you're a slacker and don't do homework or read... then don't take the class... better yet just get out of the science field. You're in college to learn. Learn something. He will challenge you. And you will feel so accomplished when you learn the subject. Changed the way I learn for the better. I owe him my career.
This class was extremely stressful and difficult. He does not do a good job explaining the topics in lecture and makes the students feel nervous and guilty if they don't understand something. Encourages students to ask questions but criticizes them for doing so. Tests are just like the homework questions, but good luck understanding the homework.
I took him Chem 3 and wish I had for Chem 4. His lectures can be tough at first to understand but after you get the hang its simple. DO THE HW and do it again because his exams are exactly hw questions just with different numbers and you are only graded on how well you do on exams. The textbook is helpful because it has the hw. Like $60 rented.
He may be an ok teacher, but he is complex & his attitude is ridiculous. He's disrespectful&rude. Can't stand to be in his class. He gets inpatient&frustrated when u don't understand something. Like others said, he encourages u to ask questions&speak up, but when you do he raises his voice and seems angry. Which makes it hard to approach him
Worst professor that could possibly exist. Im normally an A student and Im failing in this course. I got a 39% on my first test with a tutor. This class is nearly impossible to pass especially if chemistry a weak subject for you. The professor admitted himself that 90 percent of the class will fail the next test. Way to uplift your students.
Terrible ! Lectures feel like theyre 3 hours long. He told all the students at the beginning of the course that if there are any questions never hesitate to ask them. But every time you ask him something he gets incredibly annoyed at you. Impossible to understand. Gives 40 questions of homework every night and doesnt grade it! Horrendous.
The WORST professor by far at LIU. Not just a horrible professor, but person as well. He is extremely rude and would rather fail you than actually put effort into teaching a decent lecture which is *shocker* what most teachers are supposed to do. Incoming freshmen DO NOT TAKE, he will make you want to drop out/transfer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Believe all the bad reviews.
Honestly not a bad professor. 40 questions per every chapter - you get the answers&work. Most ques repeated in hw. Memorize the hw, youll get a perfect score. Exams are just hw for every 3 ch. He is mean, belittles you, might make you want to cry -passable. Wish extra credit for hw or attendance class. Lecture useless besides hw problems given.
Very tough professor, make you want to cry when you participate. His accent is so thick that it is very difficult to understand him. He has an attitude and is very rude to students. makes everyone feel anxious and doubts about what they are doing. I would not recommend whatsoever.
Many students don't like him for lectures, but I honestly love his classes. He may seem rude and seem like he's attacking you during class but he is honest and passionate about his work. I'm not the best test taker which usually would put my grade down, but his tests are straightforward. The only part I don't like is that there is no partial credit
He is rude, but he is passionate about the material. If you don't let his roasts get to you personally, HE IS HILARIOUS. Do the homework 5 times over and you will get an A on the test/class. Don't be lazy and you are guaranteed to succeed. Don't take chemistry or be in college if you don't put in the effort.
As a person this guy isn't the worst. Had online lab with him due to corona and the class was horrible. the lab reports are not clear at all and he accused us all of cheating one week due to a mistake he made. toughest grader you'll meet, make sure u don't make 1 mistake bc he will literally give u a 30 on labs. Avoid this prof if you can
Avoid at all costs. Although he makes it clear what is on the tests, he makes the tests very hard and partial credit is practically nonexistent. He doesn't care if you don't understand the material, so do not even bother going to office hours, you'll leave feeling horrible about yourself because he belittles his students. He also can barely teach.
Absolutely horrible!
hardest professor to understand. He doesnt give slides and because of his accent, it is very hard to follow through. gives us 24-hour tests that usually takes up the whole day to do even if you studied (and no you can't find answers online or find out how to solve online). He doesn't care about online kids at all, especially in his lab.
Stay as far away as you can from this man. He made me cry when I asked him for help, then told me he did not care about my emotions and he was simply there to teach me chemistry. He does not care if you understand it and make one simple mistake, -30 pts; so check your work over 10x at least. He has no good side, don't bother trying to get on it.
This man has tenure, so he will speak to you in whatever way he pleases because he will not get fired. He is rude, uncaring, uncivil, degrading, insulting, discourteous, what other synonyms can I use for horrid? Lectures are clear, but if you don't understand, get a tutor, don't bother asking questions unless you want to get yelled at. Please avoid
Fainzilberg is something else, he talks down to his students if they are confused or get something that he asks wrong, singles people out, is hot headed: he won't think twice before getting heated and yelling at students. his accent is hard to understand and he is not helpful at all honestly any professor is better than him.
One of the worst experiences I have had with a professor. I had him for class and lab, and his teaching style is the worst. Rather than going from conceptual to application, he does math problems in front of the class for an 1+ hours. He doesn't take criticism, doesn't do partial credit, doesn't teach, is rude, and doesn't care. Save yourself.
I took him for lab rather than lecture and I really enjoyed the class. Basically he's not going to hold your hand. All the problems in the lab are stated clearly in the lab manual. I went to the lab every week and was early. If you are sensitive I wouldn't recommend but if you have thick skin and can take criticism then you will be just fine.
Would not recommend Tough grader, heavily test based (only 4 exams given), test problems are only 10 questions, no partial credit, and harder than those found in the textbook. My advice to the administration of the school: create a standardized curriculum for chemistry courses so as to not lose credibility for your institution.
Dr Fainzilbergs class was one of the classes I constantly looked forward too. The key to passing this class is to put effort and do the work. You wont pass if you wont do the work. The exams are straight from the homework questions with some changes. If you do your homework and pay attention in lecture this class will be an easy A.
Show up. Take notes. Ask questions. Dont be afraid to make mistakes. Do homework. Redo homework. Redo homework again before exam. Dont be affected by his words hes just strict, hes very passionate about teaching and wants students to do good. DO HOMEWORK!!!!
Professor wasn’t good at teaching in general and was very mean
Do NOT listen to the ratings from Jan. 3rd, 2022! They are setting you up for failure! Prof. Fainzilberg is renowned to STEM majors for being the hardest professor on campus. More people fail his class than pass. My advice is to find a different chemistry lecture professor on campus or use those 9 transfer credits you have on this class.
This prof gets a lot of bad rep but personally from what Ive seen taking him for the first time is a lot of students don't put in the work, he's actually not that hard of a professor, his tests are exact copies of the homework questions if you do the homework and just give a little bit of effort you will do fine, in the end I was happy and got a A!
Dr. Fainzilberg is such an interesting professor to rate. On the one hand, his tests are extremely easy if you do the homework, I got a 90 on the final because all I had to study was the previous tests. On the other hand, he is often blunt in his lectures. He takes his job seriously, which is good, but it also means he has no time for nonsense.
Never take this professor. Your GPA will go down. The tests are impossible and he is disrespectful towards students. No partial credit at all. You will have to teach yourself or get a tutor. Just DONT.
Professor Fainzilberg takes pride in his lectures, although it may not seem like it. He is a funny guy and will answer reasonable questions. He is a different kind of teacher, not what many students are used to. No slides, doesn't post them either. Just do the homework questions over and over again, and you will pass. Just do the work.
He is very cut throat, he tells you like it is. I personally would not recommend taking him because there are nicer profs in the department but if you get stuck with him stay on top of what you need to do and you'll be ok. Your grade will reflect your effort. When the semester is over, try to avoid if you can. Some people like him and some don't.
His tests aren't overly difficult in terms of material, but he gives basically no partial credit. He says the test questions will be based off the homework questions and proceeds to give about 25-30 questions per night on average. The class is doable, but can quickly bring your GPA down since it's only based on tests with little partial credit.
NO ONE should take his class because what is the point if he is yelling at people and teach nothing while the exam is copy pasted so only the people that have the exam from other section get A and the rest will fail or drop. What is the point if no one learns anything. NO one should tolerate his negative behavior such as disrespecting and yelling.
EVERYONE MUST BOYCOTT CHEMISTRY CLASSES HERE BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY ONE TEACHES IT AND HE IS NOT FAIR AND DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING AND PURPOSELY FAILS EVERYONE. TAKE CHEMISTRY AT ONLINE CLASS LIKE UNE. ALSO RECORD HIM DURING CLASS AS HE CAN BE SO RUDE
He doesn't know how to teach.
Very confusing professor and doesn't stay true to his word. He is also really rude when you have a question to ask.
This professor is the worst! He does not believe in technology or computers and is just plain nasty to his students. He regularly insulted us and the learning atmosphere was super uncomfortable. I barely survived this class- stay as far away from this man as possible!!
This professor is incredibly strict, and his classes are very difficult. He speaks quickly and expects everything to be written down. If you miss class or fail to write something down, expect to be looking it up in an out of date textbook. There are no slides to look back on, and there are very few questions on the test so only a few to fail.
genuinely cannot teach. be prepared to teach yourself.
Trust me just avoid him and take a different section. He's a very strict grader. If u want to do good u need to do the homework aligned with the lessons in lecture if u fall behind and try to catch up last minute before a test u will fail. Also the lessons are heavy, and fast paced. If u take him make sure u stay on track if u get off track drop it
I'm halfway through his class, don't take this professor. I was warned by multiple people not to take him, but he was the only option for me so I took his class and I regret it. The only things graded are the 4 given exams, there's no extra credit, and he assigns practice problems but doesn't check or grade them. His exams are literally evil.
As long as you do the homework he assigns and the practice problems in the textbook, you will do just fine. His test questions are all from there, so if you can do those problems, the tests won't be bad at all. He doesn't check homework, though, so ask him in class or go to his office for help. He's blunt at times, but just ignore him. He's not bad
He is abusive towards students and faculty. He routinely calls students stupid, yells, disorganized, disrespectful, accuses his students of lying, publicly humiliates his students, says that veterinarians are fake doctors, and more. Often makes misogynistic comments. Extremely unfair grader. Loses his temper. He has been reported to the dean.
Disgusting comments rude and doesn't teach i wanna know who actually hired somebody like this he can't even answer questions correctly on his board.
I attended the first few weeks of the lecture and I couldn't understand AT ALL. He doesn't repeat what he says as he expects you to write down everything he says. Grades are solely on the 4 exams but he drops the lowest grade. Could have been better if he graded the homework assignments and attendance.
