Hes Russian. Has an accent but he is understandable. He looks young so im guessing a grad student, but he knows what he is talking about. i would recomend getting the book.
He has an strong accent and many times gets lost. He also commits many errors hen solving problems in the board so you have to be very aake cuz many times students have to correct him. It is a pretty easy class , the tests are multiple choice and very very easy just do the reviews and you will get good grades
This class is one that you WILL have to study for. So, study and you'll do fine. His tests are very similar to the reviews and he will go over the review thoroughly. He breaks steps down so you understand what you're doing. His accent is not that bad at all! He's a really nice guy and always willing to help. Very approachable, nice smile.
He is not Russian but he does have an accent. Don't let the eyebrow ring fool you, he knows his stuff! He made this class so easy. Take him if you want a down to earth professor who really cares. He's just great!
This class was so easy because of him. He's a great guy and an awesome teacher. Take him if you want a professor who will take the time to explain things to you until you understand. He's just great. Really!
He is such a nice teacher, and By the way, he is not Russian........... he is very helpful and you easily can understand what he is explaining, he will try his best to make you learn! uauhauhauhauh HE IS very cute too.
I don't want to give the wrong impression, his class is not easy; however, he has an ease of instruction for his students. He is willing to help his students as needed. The book was only necessary for the assigned problems, and his lectures covered all necessary topics. I got more out of the lectures than the book.
He is an awesome professor who really takes time make sure everyone understands the material. He even takes time to meet students outside of the classroom to answer any questions and go over material AGAIN. I HATE math but he made it bearable.....TAKE HIM!!
He is the best professor ever. Very smart, down to earth, he will explain everything until you understand. The only bad thing is that he is so cute that you may get distracted.
He's a really awesome teacher. The class flew by. His tests were all multiple choice, and he would even give partial credit if you did the work. he has a slight accent, but otherwise is really easy to understand. You can tell he really enjoys what he does.
He's Macedonian, not Russian :-p He is a great teacher, the course material is terrible and he tries to make the best of it!
Prof. Grupcev was one of the most sweet and caring teachers I've had. He really cares that you understand the concept rather than just learn the basics. If you understand the concepts, you should do fine on the exams. If you need the calc credit, I recommend him. I can't emphasize more on how great of a teacher he was!
He's Macedonian so he's a little difficult to understand in the lecture. Also moves very quickly through lecture notes but he does put the powerpoints up online. Notes sometimes help, not much though. Lots of hw and quizzes and tests are the majority of the grade. Tests and quizzes also HAVE to be taken in SMARTLab. Go to class, does clicker ques.
Easy to speak to after class, overall a good professor. He posts his notes online so attendance is only mandatory if you want to make sure you don't miss clicker questions. There are extra credit opportunities and he does drop a few assignments in the end.
Loved this professor. The class isn't too hard as long as you work hard. The teacher is funny and always ready to help. Take advantage of his willingness to help, it's good for him to recognize you. Take him!
Honestly I almost never went to this class. Pretty easy. When I did go, he explained everything really clearly.
He doesnt care about his students needs at all. His notes are very unclear and hard to read.
Class is short and sometimes he rushes at the end. He will spend more time on a problem if you are confused and ask. Many assignments, but he does drop some from each category which is very helpful. Was understanding about extending deadlines at the beginning of the semester with the hurricane and stuff. Posts notes online. Avg. response to emails.
He gives nearly 9 assignments a week which are all graded based on the exact grade you get, not completion. He waits nearly months at a time to input grades so there is no set & stone grade until he gets around to actually inputting things. His lectures were so unhelpful there was no point in going, teaching myself was more useful.
He is not a bad teacher but the class is hard. Prepare to study for hours or you will not pass the class. He usually never covers everything in class so you will have to go the extra mile to learn on your own certain sections. His study guides are never like the tests. He is an understanding teacher and will extend homework deadlines if needed.
Taking him as a Freshman was an easy and nice transition for me. He gets straight to the points in his lectures, he knows his work, and knows how to help. Study for what is confusing but most of the work is pretty easy if you actually pay attention, or teach yourself. He doesn't like to feel taken advantage of and will call you out on it.
A very good and helpful teacher, there are about 2 sections with their quiz and hw per week that are done in the Smart Lab. The class itself is only 50 minutes so he often rushed at the end, but he posts all of his notes to Canvas. He is very understanding with due dates but if too many people are trying to make excuses, he will not appreciate it.
I hate math, but with this professor, it was the first time that I actually understood it. His accent is not a problem and he really tries to get through to the students, even though he was very little time to do so. He posts all of his notes but it does help to go. It is a lot of homework, quizzes, and tests but he cancels out the worst grades.
Phenomenal teacher who explains concepts in great detail. Helps students understand material.
Vladimir is an awesome teacher. Highly recommend- He drops the 4 lowest homework, 4 lowest quizzes, and the lowest exam. He is very understanding and wants his students to succeed. His accent is pretty thick but its also attractive so that is a plus. Class isn't too hard, you do have to put in the effort though and spend some time in the smartlab.
Best professor Ive ever had. Explains everything conceptually, which makes the understanding of the subject so much easier. Wish he taught all my future math classes.
He wants nothing more than his students to succeed. I failed his class fall semester and chose to take him again in spring because I knew that it wasn't his fault. He drops multiple assignments and is always encouraging students to see him during office hours. He's funny and makes a boring class bearable. Not only a good teacher but a good person.
He is very excited to teach. Sometimes he is hard to follow because of his accent. I learn more by myself than I do with his lecture. You can take quizzes unlimited times and tests can be taken twice.
Great teacher, obviously very passionate about what he is teaching and very straightforward and organized. Homework, quizzes and tests are all online. Quizzes can be taking as many times as needed and tests can be taken twice. There is lots of homework so that is very time consuming.
Honestly Vlad isnt a bad prof, just bad for me. I wanted to know the why behind Calculus and he wasnt super clear on that (which stinks because thats a lot of what the test was based on.) However he is pretty fair with his grades, though you gotta watch out for the quizzes- they can help or hurt quite a bit. Worth a shot though.
Its an easy A, as long as you do the tons of homework. If you do the practice exams the exams are multiple choice and seem easy. I would do all of the hw and quizzes tho.
Good guy, the lectures are very breif and goes very quick, hard to keep up with him. There is a extra TA session on Friday which is mandatory but is completely useless and the TA's don't know the material either. Lecture notes are posted online which help quite a bit, and he posts very good reviews for the test. Needs to slow down a bit for lecture
Lot's of homework and mandatory lab attendance every week. Not much to say about his actual class. Pretty dry and boring.
Very passionate about what he teaches and is a kind guy. Posts the notes on canvas to where you don't need to attend class, but there are clicker quizzes in the beginning of most classes. Drops the four worst homeworks, quizzes and one of the worst exams.
A little dull but great teacher. If you show up to class you will be well prepared for the tests. Drops a lot of your lowest grades which is nice
BEST PROFESSOR YET. Taking college algebra was a breeze with this professor. I was in the smart lab taking a practice test and he helped me learn everything. He is so nice and wants you to pass. TAKE the practice test there just like the actual test and you'll pass. He is the BEST.
This was his first time teaching discrete math and it was the easiest class ever. No final, just three tests. Students complained after the first test because it was too hard or whatever so he gave us extra credit hw assignments and test reviews. Test are exactly like the test review. However, probably the best professor I had this semester.
Vlad was one of my favorite professors this semester. He was caring to our class as it was the first time that the course was offered in-person. He gave plenty of extra credit but that is because people did not pay attention to the lectures. The first test was easier than people made it out to be. Basically pay attention and you will pass with an A
Discrete math is a tricky subject at times but Grupcev does a solid job of elaborating the concepts thoroughly. Many extra credit assignments for extra test points. Canvas quizzes can be difficult so study up before hand. Try not to have a class right after because he always uses the whole time.
This class is basically all tests. If you take the practice tests 2-3 times and memorize the format of the questions, you will get 100s on the real tests. Attendance is annoying and so is the hw and quizzes. I barely went to the class and still ended with a 99% without having to take the final!
Knows hes stuff and he gave out EC HW assignment that counted towards test.
Professor Grupcev is hands down the best for College Algebra, granted I have not taken it with any other professor, but trust me he knows his stuff. His lecture slides are thorough enough for you to not need to the txtbook. I would always find him in the SmartLab helping his students with homework. I got over a hunnid in the class because of him.
He is an awesome professor!!
He is a godsend
He's a good guy and his lectures are very informative. It did seem like he was still trying to flesh out how he wanted to handles quiz's and tests for this class. I believe it was the first time he taught it. It started quite easy but by the end the tests were filled with a comic book villain level of trick questions.
Discrete is not an easy class to understand. Thankfully, proffessor Grupcev gave all the necessary details in his lectures to excel in the exams. He is the best example of someone that cares for his students.
Very light on HW. Exams are very similar to problems done in class and Practice exams. His lectures are so good, you wont need to read the book. Clicker question force you to attend to class. He uploads all lecture notes to Canvas, so you can just pay attention to class without worrying to take notes. Easy A if you put minimum effort.
If he is available for intro to discrete structures, take him!! He is really entertaining during lectures and his exams are decent. He gives opportunities for extra credit and has clicker questions during lectures.
He's a great guy that makes math easy. His lectures are clear and understandable. The content is not hard. You will need to purchase a MyLabs Plus access code (Buying it on its website is cheaper than at USF library). He is a very chill grader, it's an easy A.
He was a good professor, if you go to lecture and pay attention you can definitely understand the concepts. The test are pretty similar to the exam reviews.
As long as you watch the lectures the material is easy to understand. All of the quizzes allow you to retake them up to 3 times and the proctored exams have a second attempt as well.
He is really nice and really cares about teaching. Weekly homework and quizzes but you have infinite chances to take the quizzes. Practice exams are extra credit and similar to the actual exams. He does more nice things like dropping some grades. Overall, great just put in some effort and you'll be fine.
I had him during COVID, but he was one of the better teachers I've ever had. He recorded every lecture (and is very good at teaching material), he lets you take every exam twice and takes the higher score, the practice exams are extra credit, and attendance isn't mandatory but there are 1 question quizzes based on the lecture. He is super nice!
This guy is a great instructor. His lectures were great, and even though the material isn't really complicated, he explains it very well. He frequently asks questions to make sure we are understanding what he's explaining, he cares about how much we are learning. I took Discrete Structures with him back in 2019
Vladimir was a very personable teacher. He loves math and he's good at teaching it, too. He was very helpful every time I contacted him! His college algebra class has weekly homework and quizzes, but they're not bad to manage. Plus, he has eyebrow piercings and a cool accent!
I was never confident in my math skills, I took college algebra in high school and did poorly in the class but when I took it with Vladimir my first semester at USF, I felt like a genius. He made it so easy, I actually enjoyed attending his lectures. The homeworks and quizzes are basically the same as the exam but different numbers. Loved the class
Good overall, extra credit opportunities.
Each week there is one quiz and hw assignment due that goes along with a recorded lecture. There are tests every so often that require proctorio. He drops your lowest test grade, including the final exam, and multiple of your lowest quiz grades. No reason to not end in an A.
Dr. Grupchev is the best math teacher Ive ever had. He teaches with examples and as a visual learner, Im succeeding with more than a 100% in his class, and this is surprising since I was a B student in math throughout high school. Grupchev provides plenty of extra credit opportunities, and what he teaches is essentially on the quizzes and exams.
Great professor for anyone who thinks they are not good at math. All of his lectures provide enough examples to work through any question on the homework and quizzes. Drops enough assignments to satisfy your grade goal if you are putting in the work.
Amazing teacher! I learned a lot from his class and it was pretty simple, awesome man.
Vlad is a real one. He provides all the resources to complete this course by yourself, which I did most of the semester. He drops a test grade and offers extra credit for every test.
Great class and professor! Attendance is not mandatory since you can do the course completely online if you chose to which is super convenient. The workload isnt too bad and theres four exams with two attempts and a final. He drops your lowest exam score and some low homework/quiz grades and theres extra credit too, its hard to not get an A.
please take Grupcev! im absolutely horrible at math, but he made learning the material so easy and understandable. he posts all material online for you to watch where he goes step by step through problems and explains everything so clearly. answers emails in 5 seconds, lessons in person arent boring, so nice and caring. 10/10 reccommend
Watch the lectures, and you'll be fine. There is a lot of assignments, but they are manageable. Professor Grupchev explains the material well. He was fine. He does have an accent.
Makes things very easy by having pre-recorded lectures available in addition to in-person lectures. I followed a large part of the class remotely for that reason. Each chapter has a lecture, short quiz, and a homework assignment - which gives you a ton of practice. Dont get behind on due dates because there is a decent amount due every week.
Grupchev recorded all his lectures, so I attended class from there, and it was very easy to follow. He also posts a pdf of his notes if you would rather learn from there. Decent amount of homework, and tests are exactly like the practice tests offered for extra credit. It isn't a bad class at all if you pay attention and use the resources given.
This is the only math class I've ever failed. College Algebra should not be this hard, but somehow, it is.
He recorded all of his lectures so you don't need to attend class. There are lecture quiz, homework assignment, and a quiz for each chapter. There are also 4 exams with 2 attempts and a final. Super easy if you just follow the notes and watch lectures. He also drops lowest exam score & lowest homework/quiz scores. Tons of extra credit too.
He was really chill since day one. Notes are given for each subject in detail, and if you need help you can always reach out to him through Canvas. As long as you keep up with the notes, homework, and quizzes it is a really easy class!
Homework and quizzes every week but the class is easy if you have previously knowledge on Algebra.
Attendance isn't mandatory, the practice exams are the same form of questions for the real exams and he posts a practice lecture on canvas that goes through every question and teaches you how to do it. One of the exams is dropped including the final. Easy class!
Hands down the best math professor I've ever had. Took considerate time to make sure that all students understood the concepts behind the math and how they were related. Material may be difficult but paying attention to lectures and notetaking can make it an achievable A, especially since he drops the 4 lowest grades and 1 test.
Super easy class, posts all of his lectures and notes online. You have unlimited attempts on homework and quizzes which are both online, and two attempts on every test. Practice tests are given for extra credit and are the same as the test but with different numbers. Your lowest test is dropped and the final is optional. Best professor!
Professor Grupchev teaches very well and has very clear lectures. He also does a good job explaining the real world examples of discrete math. He gives out amazing study guides that resemble our exams. Best math course/teacher by far.
The lectures are very through and posted on canvas. Homework, quizes, and exams are done in the smart lab. He's very good at explaining the steps of the problems. He drops a ew of your lowest grades too.
Confusing and does not explain enough or hardly at all. Moves too quickly. i have nothing against him personally just not a great professor if you struggle in math at all.
Very good professor. All his lectures are clear and concise. Was worried about exams but the practice exams he assigns for extra credit are SUPER helpful. The homework is very time consuming but its super helpful for future exams. Overall great educator and would take again.
Professor Grupchev is the best math professor I have ever had. I'm awful at math, but he made it easier to understand and he is always ready to answer questions. You can tell he really cares about his students' success. Be aware: there are A LOT of after-class assignments. Two quizzes and a homework PER MODULE and 2 hours in the SMARTLab weekly.
He has in-person lectures but also has recorded lectures and recorded reviews for each exam, if you struggle with math these are super helpful. There is a lot of homework, but it's do-able. HOWEVER, if u live off campus like me (30 min commute) the 2 hr smart lab requirement is really inconvenient (but many math classes doing the smart lab thing).
His lectures are so interesting that I will want to attend even if attendance is not required. He is a very good professor, but you have to be very careful with a certain TA. He participated in only one exam, but many of students scored the lowest of all the tests on that exam. (except the final exam).
The course is difficult if you're not good at math but the professor is great. He provided excellent resources to achieve a good grade in the class. The only minor issue is that some of the harder topics he goes over a little to quick, but this has nothing to do with him but rather the way the course is set up. Overall, he is an excellent teacher.
He his a good professor he may sometimes over explain things but when your stuck, the review sessions help, the exams are similar to the quizzes and review
If you do the review and go to class you will definitely pass. Exam review is similar to test. Loves what he does and is great at making it clear what you need to know.
He is great at teaching and very relaxed about attendance
Great professor! Attendance is not mandatory and all the notes are posted on Canvas. There are three assignments for every homework lesson, but you have a week to complete it. He is great at explaining concepts and I would 100% recommend taking his class.
Definetly take his class! He is a great lecturer and explains concepts step by step, I was able to do very well as someone who isnt good at math. Attendance isnt required and he has precorded videos, blank notes, and the class notes available for every lecture.
Hes a great professor. He teachers so clearly and is very kind. I am bad at math but he made it very simple.
Professor Grupchev gives informative lectures and answers questions thoroughly. However, for each unit (2 a week) you are assigned 15-25 question homeworks, quizzes and a short lecture quiz which is good for understanding but very time consuming.
Very thorough and actually takes time to answer questions and to clear up confusion. All the homework's and the quizzes help you prepare for the tests pretty well and he drops one test, quiz, and homework. If you can get him for any of the math courses, I would.
Pearson Homeworks and study guides would have a lot of similar to the exact same questions as the test. Often the study guide was harder and prepared you great for the test. Each test had two attempts and completing the study guides were extra credit. He responds to emails fast and understanding during hurricane
The lectures were informative and extremely helpful. It was easy to keep engaged, and the in-class notes definitely helped for homework and studying. Practice exams were released about a week before the actual exam; they were great for studying and gave extra credit. You do have to spend 2 hours every week in the smart labs.
Took this class because I hate online math courses. He only once had a in person class and then everything was online in the smart lab. If I had known I would be teaching myself I would have chosen a different professor. He is super nice but I wish it was known before signing up that this is not a in person class. Way to many assignments as well.
I agree with the person who left a rating before me. I suck at math so I signed up for an in-person class because teaching myself takes way longer. Unfortunately, he just runs an online course and marks it as in-person. We're expected to teach ourselves 2 (sometimes 3) units a week and do all the corresponding assignments.
I expected this to be an in-person class, but it ended up being online. You have to go to the smart lab for two hours a week and do work on computer. There were still tutors available for help in the lab. The professor was there to help too on Thursdays. I didn't see him in person often, but his video lectures were very straightforward and helpful.
If you don't live on campus or have other classes on campus, definitely don't recommend this class. It said the class was in person, but it's basically online except you have to go to the smart lab for two hours a week, which is kind of a waste of time.
great professor, great math teacher. id totally recommend him. my only issue is that its sort of a flipped classroom so you can never really ask him for help in class. other than that, it was a good math course.
I found this class to be hard but I like math classes like Calc this class for me was hard. The study guides are similar to the exams.
Grupchev has been my favorite professor at USF so far. I really wish I took the time to get to know him more, he is really smart and understanding. He teaches eloquently, especially with his ipad, it was very easy to learn the concepts he taught during the lecture. Exams are JUST LIKE the reviews. I hated math my entire life but I loved discrete.
This course is extremely easy, use and dedicate the 2 hour requirement at the SMART lab well and you will do great. This class for me was online, video lecture that were helpful. Final can be dropped, so I recommend taking both attempts for each exam so you can have one less final to worry about!
Had 1 class in-person; the rest done by yourself. Quizzes and tests done in smart lab; professor is there during office hours. Very easy class, even if you are not good at math. Quizzes have unlimited attempts and there are 2 attempts per test. Tests are 70% of your grade, but the lowest score gets dropped. Online textbook is expensive but needed.
First class is in-person, all others are online lectures. Quizzes, homework and tests are in smart lab, 2 hours weekly. Tests are two attempts, best taken from 2. Practice exams are extra credit. Lowest exam is dropped, 3 quizzes and 4 homework are dropped. Super easy class.
I signed up for an in-person math lecture because I have always struggled with math. The class was entirely online, teach yourself. He practically did nothing; there were premade videos, assignments, etc. If you want to take a fully online course, then yes. But not what I signed up for and I greatly struggled with an otherwise easy subject for it.
I am so glad I took discrete math with Dr. Grupchev because of his detailed and helpful teaching style, and also because his exam reviews are very similar to the exams. 1 out of 4 exams are dropped, and it is very easy to end up with a high grade in this class as long as you put in some effort.
All videos and Hw is posted online, prof is very understanding and drops a bunch of quiz's, hw, and attendance at the end of semester. Only downside is quizzes / exams are taken is smartlab, have to do 2 hours every week, unless its exam week. Other than that easy A, math is very simple and respondes to emails quickly and always willing to help.
Two homework assignments + two small quizzes a week. 3 tests + a final exam. Honestly very simple. Spam practice exam (unlimited attempts) before each exam until you do well, you will end with a B+ or higher.
Best MAC1105 professor I have had. He was clear with how equations should be solved and even gave short cuts as to how to solve it faster or better. He could admit to any miscalculations he would make and was more than happy to answer any questions both during and after class!
It's a flipped class, so you have to spend two hours a week in the smart lab for attendance, but that's plenty of time to work on the quizzes, which can only be taken there. Lectures are videos posted to Canvas, nothing too difficult to follow along. Professor is easy enough to get a hold of.
He is super chill and it is a hybrid class, so only the exams are in person. The rest of the attendance is not mandatory as long as you maintain good quiz grade averages.
It is a hybrid class so lectures are posted online and exams and quizzes are in person. As long as you watch the lectures, the material is fairly easy. Exams are exactly like the practice tests (which he also gives extra credit if you complete). Despite not seeing him for lecture, he is very accessible through Canvas and responds pretty quick.
I'll be honest, I only went to one lecture. Considering how little effort I put in, I definitely should have failed, but his grading policy is so generous. I failed two major tests and still passed the class by studying for the final. The SMART lab attendance thing is kind of annoying but that's not in his control.
