His class is somewhat difficult, especially if you don't understand a particular concept. You can always ask him for help, but he is more prone to giving you little nudges to help you figure it out on your own. Tests are hard, our mid-term only had 8 questions, which made it difficult to get a good grade, but he graded generously. Overall, good.

This was my first philosophy class and I couldn't be happier that I got Kalugin as my professor. He has a slight sense of humor, and keeps you interested. He does have an intense accent, but you get used to it. Don't skip class though, he'll drop you if you don't have a good reason.

Personally I hated every second of this class, the subject is all nonsense, irrational, and irrelevant. But the class is very easy, no tests, no quizzes, no textbook. Show up, raise your hand, put in your two-sense, do all (like 7) of the assignments and you will pass with flying colors. Easy A.

I really enjoyed his class towards the end of the semester. At first, he really scared me because he comes off really tough. I would have also liked to know he has Russian accent before taking his class. As the semester goes on, he relaxes and is really funny. There's no tests, but PARTICIPATION MATTERS. No textbook required.

Love him, what a sweet and helpful teacher. He talks very quietly and has an accent but he really is sweet about his assignments and had no tests. Lots of group projects, but he's a very easy grader and if you participate he appreciates it. Seems very strict and intimidating in the beginning, but stay in the class and you won't regret it.
