He is funny as hell. WAWWO! he is one of the best math teachers I had at de anza. He really tries to help out the students and you can feel that he likes math alot. If you don't understand him at first, just give it a couple of weeks.
Like most DeAnza math teachers, hard to understand his english is terrible. Very Rigid has to have things his was. He's excentric, at times off the wall.
the best math teacher to take!!!he is funny and fair grading. he spends a lot of time explaining students the material to make sure everyone understands even when he is behind the schedule.
smart, funny, kind, helpful.don't try to argue with him, as he's seldom wrong.1st 2 weeks, u'll feel like dropping, but after tht, u'll get use to his accent.not tht difficult.do HW!pop quiz.lots of extra crdits.looks like penguin & denny de vito!gd in actin
He was nice when teaching Math 105. But not for Math 10. He "collabrate" teaching with 2 other instructors. Geeze the text book is the craziest I ever saw! Typo error and ambiguous. He is not clear.
Cares about students and willing to answer questions. Passion for math. However finite is not an easy, so this is not an easy A class. Accent is not that bad. Funny and entertaining.
I had a hard time in his class. I couldn't really understand what he was saying 1/2 of the time. His work load is avg. to high. His tests are relativly hard. I believe I would have done alot better in another math class. Take someone else if you need 105.
Really hard to understand what he's saying. Had a very hard time in his class. Would not recommend!!!

he's kind...gives lots of extra credit...quizzes are fair...always calling students out to answer his problems on da board + gives extra credit~~not difficult at all to ACE~~
Plenty of opportunities to get extra credit. Takes a little over a week to get a feel for what he is saying, but after that it's not too bad. He has very comical mannersims that provide a bit of comic relief <stomps on ground> "stop, stop, stop
not the best teacher and not the worst teacher. very hard to understand first couple weeks, tests are moderate because he tells you what it will be on and if you understand the materials, take someone else but if other classes are full, just take this
If you are late to class, you have to say sorry. If you fail a test, he calls you stupid. If you drop the class, he can't do anything to do. NOT RECOMMENDED TO ANYONE!!! :(
Not very helpful. He jumps around the board b/c he forgets to talk about something and dosn't follow a logical progression. Not helpful or good at all.
I find this teacher to be super easy because I have knowledge of Calculus already. Hw is real easy points. You can just copy the problems right out of the solution manual and turn it in. As for tests, he basically tells you the day before the types of Q's
BEST teacher i ever had. So easy and you can get a lot of extra credit. Tests are nothing tricky like the other teachers. I love to have him as my math teacher in my career.
not very helpful, really heavy on proves, but this man will pass anyone who tries, very easy grader and test, gives so many opportunities to get extra credits, although not very easy stuff, recommend to people who are willing to work
He's very helpful, and very funny, u're gonna be laughing the whole time. There's a bunch of quizzes, labs and a couple of projects but it is possible to get through it and get a B even if u still don't know what u were doing in the class. Take his class!
yes u might be laughing the whole time in class because hes funny in a stupid way, but hes not very good at teaching. Take someone else if u can...If you have no other choice, make sure u do all da extra credit like me...
I'm ok with him cuz I have basic knowledge of calculus. But for people who don't, you might have trouble understanding him. So-so math teacher. But he gives students extra credits that might ease your grade a bit.
He has a lot of knowledge .But I guess he finds it difficult to express at times due to his accent. Explanation is simple and understandable. If you go to him with ur difficulties, he will explain in the easiest way.
Dr. Logvinenko is the best teacher ive ever had. I have always had problem with math but he made me see the logic in it. He is one of the few teachers you will remember having in college and remember him as your best instructor!!!
I'd say he was pretty hard, if ur taking him make sure ur on time and be aware of pop quizzes
I am taking MATH 11 with him now, and I love his class. He is funny and smart. He does has a big russian accent, but he knows it and work it out pretty good. He takes the time to explain everything on detail and make sure everyone is on the same page.
Great professor! He really wants his students to succeed. For example, he shows "tricks" or ways to solve problems so that you don't make simple, common mistakes. He's very willing to help.
Great teacher!!! He makes sure you learn Math. Strongly recommend his class. He is smart and funny.
This is the best teacher I have ever had for math. He is also the funniest math teacher. His accent is really deep but you get used to it. He teaches better than most others due even with his strong accent.
hard to understand at times, doesnt grade on a curve but grades fairly, allows 1 pg notes for all quizes and tests, overall pretty easy, i never did a single homework problem because he gives great notes and tells you everything you need to know for tests
Took this over summer so it went by fast but he let us use notes on each quiz/test. As long as you keep up, do the HW, and try, you'll be fine. His accent is FUNNY!
If you read the book, do the homework and pay attention to the teacher during his lections, you'll be fine. There's a lot of extra credit points and he drops one test at the end. His grading is very fair, I mean, you'd be surprised :) He's a nice teacher
Good teacher. Math isnt my strong subject but he definitely did not make it complicated. Took it during the summer also. Like everyone else, i would have to agree on his fair grading! Take his class.
vladamir is the man! although the fat accent drove me crazy the first week, i got used to it. he gives a lot of FREE extra credit points all over the place for no reason. The book is helpful enough for you to teach yourself if you can't understand him. But easiest grading i've ever had.
Vladimir is an AWESOME teacher! He was my first math teacher in college and i was really glad i chose him. His quizes aren't so hard and either are his tests. He will make you pass the class. He gives out ALOT of freee extra credits!!
I LOVED his class. he is HILARIOUS. Makes you really enjoy the subject matter. Don't let the accent intimidate you, after the first 2 weeks you understand him clearly. Very thorough, very helpful, very FAIR grading, front/back cheat sheet on each test! Free extra credit EVERYWHERE! Easy to pass.
He is great , nice , lots of extra credit , easy , fair , helpful , highly recommanded , after 2 weeks the accent will be OK
hi I took his math-11 class in fall 2004. the class is time consuming itself but there's nothing to do with its great teacher. Love him :)I got A!!! So happy
This teacher is very-very easy A, a lot of extra credit. The quiz and test are very easy. Just study the quiz and the handout that he give before the test, and you will get A in the test. Try to find his mistake when he write in the board, and you will get extra credit. Take this teacher
This teacher is hilarious. It's pretty easy as long as you're active regarding his lectures and do all the homework. He offers a lot of extra credit. I don't see any reason why you won't be able to pass his class.
Valdimir Sucks ass. His accent is so strong that if you don't pay attention for more then 3 seconds you'll have no idea what the hell he is saying. if math isn't your strong point then don't take him. His extra credits are 1 or 2 points determining how well u did the assignment; hes unorganized.
if u were placed low on the math placement test and really suck at math don't take him. People who usally pass have already been aquainted with the material. If you don't know anything it won't help you because understanding him is impossible. These people who say he's great are those overacheivers.
Taking Vladimir's class is like going to see a stand-up comic perform 5 hours a week. HILARIOUS! Also, a very easy A. I was sure I was going to fail the class, but nope, I got an A.
OH man, this person is great. just copy HWs and turn them back.and also for quizes and tests just read notebook and for final just go through the previous quizes and tests.3 months ago I bought book at first but I gave it to one of my friends and at last I got A. problem: Accent, but no problem.
I <3 Vladimir. He is the nicest teacher I have ever had. I took his class last year, and when he sees me on campus he still stops and says hello. Very clear in his lectures, and very helpful. Best math teacher at De Anza.
Mr. Vladimir is a great teacher. He probably doesn't have a great accent, but you can understand if you try. Those who rate him bad is because they are loosers and they can not even try. He has patience and great personality. This teacher know what he is doing. YOU WANT A CHALLENGE, HE IS IT!
This teacher is awesome. He deserves to have a higher rating. Whoever gave him bad ratings are whack. He is probably one of the best math teachers at De Anza. Math isnt my strong point but I had him for stats and calc and passed both classes with good grades. This teacher is very funny and nice.
I had to drop his class after 3 days. It was horrible. I couldn't understand a thing he said. Bad accent.
I couldnt understand him and the homework wasnt clear. I felt he went too fast. He seemed nice though. But I need a teacher that i can understand.
One of the best prof. in Deanza.A lot extra credit and he allows you to make up quizzes and texts. Those people who said about his bad accent, I strongly disagree with it because I have been in the US for 1 year when I was taking his class, but I understood very well. He is a fuuny guy, happy class.
Mr. L. is one of the most good hearted, dedicated teachers I have had. He has a good sense of humor and cares about his students work. Putting him down(abusively I might add)about his accent shows more about the raters character than anything else. If you listen, you will learn. Don't blame him.
He expects too much from his students, I came to his class not knowing anything about calculus and half the things that he said didn't even makes sense cuz his explanations aren't really clear unless you are a math wizz. His book did most of the teaching, nice guy, but he doesn't give breaks. So when you need to go to the bathroom you feel bad.
I like him! His accent is OK. I have to take more than 2 hrs every day for the class to catch up cos I don't know anything about math. But lots of extra points and If you do what you are supposed to do as a student, you'll be fine. Anyway getting good grade is just matter of how much practie you do for math.
woow, I want to take 100 classes with him. So many extra credits and make up quizzes. he is very helpfull. Math is not my major but I got "A" at the end of that quarter. It is my first and last A in my math until now. I love u
Vlad is really a great teacher. He deserves a better grade than he has right now. He is really funny, he will make you laugh so much I am glad that I took him for math.
Ok teacher. You get scared to ask him questions. Pay attention and do hella extra credit. Just might get an A.
if you can get passed the accent thing, he's a very nice and kind person. he gives a lot of extra credit. if you know your intermediate algerbra, study the book, and do all the homework, there's no reason why you cannot get an A in this class. Recommended.
I took two of his class. He is helpful. He gives up tests base on what he taught. If you go to every class, then there shouldnt be any problem of not getting an A. Recommanded.
I hate to say it but this is a self-study class. Vladimir's a nice guy and all, and you DO get used to his accent after a while, but to try and learn multivariable calculus from him is a lost cause. Do ALL the homework in advance, ask him questions about the problems you don't know how to do, do some extra credit here and there, and you'll be ok.

Difficult to understand his thick accent. Picks on students.
aWESOME TEACHER ALSO VERY FUNNY. gOT AN A IN HIS CLASS, BUT HAD TO STUDY HARD AND DO HOMEWORK, WHICH IS NOT HIS FAULT, HE IS A GREAT TEACHER.
Loved Vlad. He's a fair grader and extremely good at explaining difficult concepts. I tried taking finite from another teacher and i had to drop it because it was too hard. but this guy was soooo good, i ended up passing with an A. DEFINITELY

Logvinenko was an excellent teacher and overall a very interesting individual. He is able to somehow make the subject enjoyable with his sometimes very humorous remarks. He also cares about his students and was willing to help those who ask. I never have enjoyed math, nor have I ever been good at it, but statistics was quite an experience.
His accent is hard to understand, but overall hes a great teacher. Explains the material thorougly. He gives extra credit points also when you're the only one in the class who knows the answer
He's a nice guy and wants his students to perform well, but there are certainly better math professors in De Anza. As already mentioned, Logvinenko's greatest shortcoming is his glaring, hard to understand Russian accent. For me, this was more of a self-learning class, since the text book taught me a whole lot more than the professor.
Vladimir has a thick Russian accent and moves very fast. Don't fall behind because it's very hard to catch up. If you come in late he will berate you and he is not tactful about it. Even though he seems tough he is actually very caring. Vladimir is an interesting and intelligent man who speaks several launguages and is very worldly.
Excellent teacher. Besides the accent, a very funny, charming, and intelligent man. The material is pretty thorough, but he does a great job at teaching it. extra credit opportunities abound.
Bad. His accent is horrible. He goes through he lesson very fast at the end of the quarter. He sometimes supposes you have concepts in certain parts and then wants you to do the exercises. In fact, it is not. Sometimes, self-study is better than his lecture!! His notes are very messy as I always do not know what he is talking.
Vladimir is a really smart and really cool guy. He knows math very well and it comes through in the lecture. However he is not very good at explaining new concepts. I rely heavily on the lecture and I was let down. I had to reread everything out of the book after hearing it in class. Collects homework and has an accent if that matters
What a genius guy!! He's so smart and nice to student, the only problem is that his accent is heavy that sometimes we can't get what he's talking. The class is not hard but the Honor program is tough. If you are a serious student, he's your choice, if you just come to college for fun, he's not. You'll learn a lot from him, trust me, recommended!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER! He is vey hard. Accent and tone of voice is horrible. He throws surprise quizes at you. Gives alot of tests. Expects you to memorize ALL the formulas. Cannot bring formulas to test. Doesn't have a curve on grading and has failed students. If you want to get confused and stressed, take him. Other wise DONT!
I cannot believe the previous rating(s). Those are comments from very lousy/bad students who cannot see past the lines of a good math teacher. He offers to redo quizzes and has a sense of humor that many people overlook. He is incredibly reasonable and his accent is not a problem if your more concentrated in the class.
Two pages of notes allowed in the final. Tests are easy, but need to do a lot of homework. Easy "A".
Vladimir is extremely smart and has taught in numerous colleges. He allows 2 pages of notes on the final. Lets you know whats going to be on the test before hand, and always reminds students that even though math may be difficult, you can still succeed. Always willing to help & answer questions. ONE OF THE VERY FEW FAIR MATH TEACHERS AT DEANZA!: )
I got an A in the class but I don't recommend him! Sometimes he won't answer a question in class and tells you to come in the lab, but then half the time he just unlocks the door and then leaves. His english is not good either, we had to write a research paper and he took points off mine because my language was too formal and too "bookish"! hah!
who can really understand what does he talking about .....
You want the truth u cant handle the truth!! His class can be an easy A beacuse the math isnt to bad but it gets hard beacuse u cant understand what he says half the time. His a fair teacher and gives u chances to redeem urself, but on the tests however he sometimes puts problems that suprise you and were not expecting.
It was a tough class for me.A lot of h/w,took all my time.Try to get extra credit points. The teacher is nice but cannot explain the material very well. Also he was not very helpful when I tried to reach him durung his office hours.I don't recommend him.If you have to take this class - be on time, don't miss any,do all requirements, get extra credits!
This instructor is very difficult to understand and can be brash with a closed mind at times. I found that when I tried to explain my issues with the homework we could communicate because he didn’t have a clear grasp of the English language. Math11 is not difficult but the instructor is. I would avoid him at all costs if you want a passing grade.
Amazing teacher! He is my favorite math teacher! He explains concepts very well. Some people say his accent is a problem, but even they get used to it after a week or so. Do all the HW. Weekly quizzes. If you do your work and study, you will likely get an A. I took him for honors and would recommend that to everyone. He is the best!
His strong Russian accent may throw you off and make you wanna quit his class within a week. But give it a week or two and you'll get used to it. Lots of extra credit points (On the board & Take-home problems). Anyone can score high on Homework Assignments.
3 tests. about 8 quizzes. extra credit problems. replace final with tests. a team project. turn in homework. I'd say this class was pretty easy. He tells you the type of problems the day before the test. Heavy accent and explains O.K. almost self-review after a lecture.
Dr. Logvinenko doesn't really explain the "why" of things, but encourages people to ask questions in class and during office hours. Don't be put off by his accent or personality at first - he actually has a good sense of humor. Also, only do the Honors Assignment if you really like math since it is relatively time consuming and heavy on the proofs.
Class seemed like it would be hard, but just attending class and keeping up can prepare you for the weekly quizzes. Homework is due at test time. Group project. Textbook not used in class. Definitely review your notes before the weekly quizzes. Prof was hard to follow at first, he's fast at math and can skip steps, but it gets easier.
Bad, bad, and just plain BAD!!! This guy made absolutely no sense. English is his third or fourth language, he yells every fourth word ("But!!!") and is so intimidating you don't want to bother asking for help. Take Sekhon, this guy will just give you a headache.
My English poor.Sometime, not understand he took about. But to his class and took note everyday.Spent 1 hour to understand the note before next class.Did the homework by copy solutionbook, but try to know how to do all these questions by asking him in the class.Spend 5hours to prepare each test.At last, get easy A.Best teacher for poor english student.
Logvinenko is eccentric, but he really knows what he is talking about. Most importantly, if you show him you are committed he will more than meet you half way. That does not mean he will do the problems for you, or hold your hand every minute. He will really encourage you, though, and give you EVERY opportunity to get a good grade.
HE IS SO FUNNY!!!!!!!haha a very nice teacher!
good guy. not so great of a teacher. he tries.. his English is not real well. does not explain thoroughly. if i did not have any proir knowledge of math, i would not have passed. a lot of extra credit! 3 mid terms, 1 final. pretty much, just show up, and you will pass.
I could not keep up with his class due to the lack of clarity and helpfulness. I do not recommend this teacher what so ever.
he is very unclear, i was totally lost in his class not recommended!
I'm a good student, I go to class, pay attention and take notes. I really don't understand him. I rely on the book but now he is teaching something that is not in the book. Even the tutors didn't understand the notes from class because even to them it didn't make sense.
He is funny but he is absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Just be ready to teach yourself because he won't do any of it. He just rambles on as he writes on the board, his accent makes it even more incomprehensible. We asked him to go over a problem again and he refused saying that it is too difficult for him to do!
He's a funny little guy. His lectures DO make sense. All his homework is done online, he doesn't give a lot of Extra credit. He wont tell you your grade at all during the quarter, until you see it on the computer. It's not an easy A, but it's not hard to pass.
I took his Math 11 class. He is a such a funny guy. He does have an accent, but it doesn't really matter. If u do all works that he assigns and go to class everyday, it won't be that hard to get an A on this class. He gives u a lot of extra credit and his final is really easy. He chose problems from 3 midterms that u take. Take this class!!!
Vlad was a cool teacher. He gives extra credit almost everyday! He doesn't really take attendance, but he does remember faces. A few quizzes, but he drops the lowest one. All midterms and final are multiple choice. A few group quizzes. Fun class. His accent is quite amusing also!
Vlad is great. His accent helps mask his very dry and slightly evil sense of humor. Homework is all online, and there's 2 days computer lab on top of regular lectures. He can be a bit intimidating, but if you can get past that you'll find he really is there to help those who want to succeed. All exams are on Scantrons + some full-problem quizzes.
accent takes some getting used to, so esl students stay away. you can't do well in his class if you don't study! throws out one test grade, two quiz grades, one lab grade, etc. grades very leniently on homework, however tests are a bit harder. quizzes are pretty easy if you study. gives extra credit to students for just showing up to class.
great teacher ever~
Really nice guy, he's pretty funny too. He really does want his students to do well. He offers a lot of extra credit and drops the lowest test score. The homework is all online and reallly easy. His accent isn't that bad, i wouldn't worry about it. Overall, take his class!
Worst class every, he does not know how to control his students. His accent is so hard to understand, and he doesn't go over problems. You gotta yell from him to see you, really if you're hand is up in the air he won't even notice. He loves to tell you the homework last minute and his teaching standards are confusing.
This was the one class I dreaded going to everyday. I would say I am a pretty good student that gets good grades, but this class was so hard for me. You can't understand him, and when you ask for help he flat out yells at you. If you signed up for this teacher, my best advice would be to get another one!
This is not a good teacher. Luckily, I was still able to pass this class with an A, but I had to fight for it. This teacher is very difficult to work with. The EnableMath software is terrible and I was unable to complete 3 quizzes because of it. But when I went to him for help, he refused. He said it was my problem and not his. Worst teacher ever.
Terrible Teacher! Worst class I have ever had. I dreaded coming to class every day. He yells at students and is very grumpy. I'm not a slacker, so I'm not just saying this because I'm lazy. I'm an A student. But this teacher is just a difficult person. Avoid by any means necessary. PLEASE!
Worse teacher ever! His teaching is really confusing. If you want to hear what he's saying, you are better sit in front. Don't ever take his class, or you will regret like me =[
extremely on9 Professor
he's an okay teacher, not the best. True it is really hard to understand him and his method's are confusing, but he is funny sometimes and his accent is funny. He's a cool guy sometimes, but he can also have a bad temper..
Mr logvinenko is very easy. I took Math 1B. He explains very good but his accent is little bit hard to understand. So basically we have 3 homework to turn in, project and 2 exam. Overall he is ok i got B in his class.
HILARIOUS! Just dont take him if you're reaaaaaally bad at maths
He is nice teacher. If you do homework everyday, pay attention in class, do well in exams, and quizzes, this class is an easy A.
wow. first time i got a C at de anza bc of him and i have straight A's. doesn't check emails, the accent is ok (you get used to it), VERY unhelpful, accusatory, and does not reason with you at all. the class is easy if you've taken calc before- for the rest of us, prepare to suffer. he doesn't teach...just gives us random examples without explaning
Vladimir definitely has a big heart. He also has a great russian accent, but once you got over this he is a very good teacher. Actually, it was the only teacher that had a good approach to math so I've finally got something. Highly recommend this teacher if you're not a quitter.
DO NOT take him if you are horrible in math and/or have never taken EnableMath before. He doesn't explain any of the assignments, just puts random problems on the board and expects you to know them. Thankfully, Ms.Ison in Math 212 explained how to do all of this in my last class! If this wasn't EnableMath, I'd drop him in a heartbeat! WORST TEACHER
I took his class over the summer for HS credit and it wasn't bad. He doesn't really do one-on-one teaching very well, but I learned. If you have a question, he will try to answer it. Also, he won't hold you the entire time for lab work. I'd say he's decent. Don't take his class if you need to be walked through every problem.
He doesnt explain too much just one, two or three problems. Dont take his class if you are taking difficult classes, he require you to do all the homework in the book which takes a long time to finish. Not difficult at all but very challenging class. Sometimes you have to learn the problems by yourself.
horrible teacher and not helpful. does not go over what will be on the tests and puts things he has not taught on tests. don't take him if you want an A. only one person in my class got an A and he was a math genius! i dont know why he was even in the class. enable math is the worst program for learning. typos=extra work!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Got 100% on all the enable-math quizzes but got a C on the midterm because it was so unclear and had stuff he didn't teach on it. Avoid the W and just don't take him! I'm a 4.0 engineering major and couldn't get a A.
Everything you do HW and quiz wise is through enableMath and it sucks. This is bad because the teacher doesn't explain much either. Sure you get some stuff if you show up, but it doesn't do anything when you were tested on the material three days ago. If you take him you will need to teach yourself everything without a book.
This isn't my first time taking Math 10 nor is he my first Math 10 teacher but given your selection at De Anza, I'd say go with him. He yells a lot but isn't too hard and... mostly clear. Gives extra credit too and make sure you have intelligent group mates. Without a doubt better than Illowsky, Soler, or most of the De Anza Math 10 teachers.
I got an A, but I worked for it.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! his midterm is much harder than the stuff on enablemath! he doesnt teach the material n expects you to do be able to hw on enablemath!take the class only if you can study on your own.
I took his MATH 114 in the summer of my Junior year in high school. It wasn't terribly bad. He does have an accent, but he also has a mild sense of humor which is uncommon with math teachers. He knows what he's teaching, and yeah, the EnableMath sometimes sucks, but I liked it better than dealing with a textbook.
He was just so hard to understand. Also Didnt like to help the students
the very first day of class you will not understand him. he is a super math man, he knows his stuff but his lectures are not in sync with the hw. the hw is online and extremely easy. his tests are nothing like the hw, but he does offer make up tests. as long as you take notes, do the homework, and study for the test you'll be fine.
Cant understand him.His homework and test do not go hand in hand.
He is an interesting professor. You have to do all home assignments regularly despite they are due date of midterm. He allows to use calculator and gives couple of take-home quizzes and extra problems.
he passed away :(
Rest in Peace my man.. you were one hell of a teacher....
RIP Vladimir, He was a great teacher and a great person.
Rest in Peace Vlad. you were such a cool teacher, yea you put us down acouple times but were so funny about how you did it, i couldn't mad. you were a fun teacher and will forever be missed. I know i only had you for a short time but you stuck it out and taught till the end.
