great tecaher
Don't bother going to his lectures. it's not worth it. He's an easy marker though, and you only have to know his powerpoint slides...nothing else.
Not what I call teaching. He just reads his powerpoint presentations. He's horrible, but in Bio, you have to take his course, which sucks.
Classes are usless, You will understand the material better if you print his notes and read them yourself. He cant speak english clearly and he refuses to help outside of class also. He also wastes time blaming students for talking. WORST teacher ever!
Excellent slides, no need to attend lectures, but attending is like replacing your studying. Very helpful outside of class...Human Beings, in General, hate it when students blab away during the lecture, its sooooo disrespectful to both the prof and other students. Those who blab, tend to do poorly!
what a useless teacher! you'll get no info from him. really knows how to embarass himself in front of the whole class. never ask him questions outside of class when he's smoking, he'll refuse to answer your questions when he's chillin.
Bad (and immature) students will always have bad comments... Excelent course, great teaching, you need to go to class because he mentions details that are not always in his slides. Final exam was hard, but if you study hard (meaning you are a good student) you will get your A.
Granted the thick russian accent is hard to get over at first, this teacher is great, his lectures are well organised. Go to classes, listen and study the slides, youll do great. BTW, he is approchable while hes chillin, just do it diplomatically. Thanks to him, cell biology is romantic to me.
He puts every little detail into his exams, which are hard. You get used to the accent after a few weeks and then the class gets interesting, he is a good lecturer, tells some interesting stories. If you know the notes *inside out* you'll do well, but it IS a hard class I'll admit.
Not bad teacher. Accent takes a week to get used to, but you ajust. Just reads his Powerpoint slides during lecture, but expands on and clarifies them. Some stuff he says is in the midterm and final too, so print the lectures and go to class! Don't talk though, he gets annoted (and it really is annoying!). Final a killer if class talked too much!
MEMORISE HIS POWERPOINT LECTURES! Some of the stuff that he says in class is included on the final too. So suck it up, go to class, get used to the accent, and watch him be embarrassingly cute (heavy on the embarrassing). Tries to be funny, but just ends up mumbling his way through weird off-sides. Hence the cute, and embarrassing.
best biology teacher by FAR!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, EASY , FUN , INTERESTING COURSE, AMAZING NOTES!!!!
great!
Absolutely terrible... He was so slow that we didn't finish almost 1/3 of the course material. Likes to go on 20 minute rants about Einstein for some reason... Just terrible...
He's a great teacher. He's cool. Read, understand and memorize the powerpoint notes, and you will do very very well! Go to class and listen: that helps you study!
i didnt think it was so bad at first, but this class was just painful. 2 midterms and a long difficult final and the effort and studying put in just werent worth it. and dont buy the textbook. if another teacher is available, take the other one. avoid him.
i absolutely did not enjoy this class. he is very difficult to listen to, class lectures were a repeat of the slides given. slides are very complete and detailed so there is no need for a textbook, but if another teacher is available; take them. not one of the better biology profs.
Incredible slides, just know them in detail and you will get an A. Don't buy the book! A waste of money.
very bad teacher, don't take him there are better teachers than him.
Most students who took BIOL266 with him probably never realized how nice he was with students. Although the slides are very well organized it still takes efforts to do well in the course. Absolutely one of the most sympathetic profs of the most unsympathetic teaching business of conU.
he is goofy but good hearted. don't you dare and talk during his lectures. study the slide..no..memorize the sh1@ out of them, the smallest compound name that shows once in one slide he will ask, a diagram that comes up once be able to reproduce it. the slide are kick ass i use them as a reference now.
Very nice prof, fair course, he likes to joke, his slides are your bible for the course, don't bother buying the textbook (tho you might need it for higher level classes), if you memorize the slides, you're good to go, I'd rec you guys attend his lectures just to keep up to date but it's not mandatory. Have fun!
awesome prof, really nice and good teaching
Really rude and a horrible teacher. Impossible to understand in class. Avoid him at all costs. Spends most of the class yelling at students and is very disrespectful in his office
Avoid this teacher, really difficult to understand
Avoid at all costs!! So boring cant understand anything he says, wastes 30 min of class time lecturing us abt the use of cell phones etc.
Dr. Titorenko is a great professor. However, his tests are long and difficult and require a lot of studying and preparation. If you study hard, there's no reason not to get at least an A in this course. You can't not study and expect to get good grades. Study hard and you'll be rewarded.
i agree with all the other comments, he is a HORRIBLE teacher! Dont go to class just memorize this slides! And YES he smells terribly!! He needs to learn a thing or two abt how to be presentable!
worst biology teacher I have ever had! Pray you dont get him! though i think hes the only one who teaches the course. Didnt understand a word he said
absolutely horrendous! How is this guy a prof!!
exams are way too long and too detailed this class is useless, you have to memorize everything on the slides, and in the end you dont really learn anything, avoid him if you can
better to take with different instructor
avoid! THIS class is USELESS
Dr. T is nicer than you'd think. Know his slides like the back of your hand - that's all he tests on. It is a relatively easy A but you HAVE to make sure you know the slides. 2 Midterms were easy - final is really tricky. KNOW your signalling pathways. Mention aging whenever you can that's what he researches.
Going to class is useless, and the midterms and final are so very detailed. Best trying another prof. The midterms were really long you just barely have enough time to finish.
I've never had so much trouble on tests and finals before this course. He is insane. You can put in many hours into studying, but if you don't remember the specific things he wants, you suffer.
Be prepared to take in A LOT of information-and to do a lot of memorizing as well. The subject is not a simple one and Dr.T makes it worse by expecting nothing short of perfection. 2 mid-terms and a final. The mid terms are fair, if on the hard side, and the final is not easy. You need to work hard to get a passing mark and EXTRA hard to get an A.
this prof is BAD ASS! he's hilarious. Take him!!! Just memorize his slides like your life depends on it and you're good!
Excellent prof. Exams are straightforward. Either you know it or you dont. Demands lots of memorization but that's cell biology. Slides are very good, well presented. His accent requires a bit more focus to understand, but hes very interesting and makes good jokes in class. Overall loved this prof. Strongly recommended to take him for cell bio
He is excellent! A true professor, knowledgeable and extremely enthusiastic about biology. Love his class and have learned a lot!
This class is very intense in memorization. There's no textbook, just memorize his slides... every single one. His lectures are pretty boring but he does help elaborate on the slides so class attendance is beneficial. He's pretty generous with his grading but tests are extremely hard and long so you need to know the material well.
His class is all about the slides. No text book. The questions are very straightforward and literally copied and pasted directly from his slides. You need to memorize everything but at least there are no trick questions. If you study you can do fantastic.
Such a nice guy! Definitely memorize all the slides (never used the book). The midterms are around 25 multiple choice ?'s and like over 10 short answer questions, so you have to know your stuff. Go to his office hours for help-he's really helpful!
Probably best prof in bio department at ConU. Memorize his slides and you will get your A. Makes you understand cell biology. His makes his slides from scratch, doesn't use other images from textbooks. Very talented prof. Nothing but good things to say about him except his bad breathe. Exams are straightforward and easy if you memorize everything
He makes cell bio so easy to understand if you can get past his accent. He makes his own slides and as long as you memorize every pixel you will get an A+ guaranteed. He doesn't trick you and is very straight forward in his questions. usually half multiple choice half short answers. Only bad thing is, he's a very harsh grader!
if you are a good parrot, that is memorize and spit everything out at the exams you have an A + guaranteed. EMPHASIS ON MEMORIZE, E.V.E.R.Y. SINGLE DETAIL from his slides.
How does making you memorize every single detail on a bunch of slides make the teacher anything but incompetent? Yes, it's possible for you to get your A if you put in the effort, but this is far from what education should be like. Classic example of an old fashioned lecturer. You don't actually retain anything past the couple hours of your exam.
Bad in general, haven't learned a thing
If you could avoid it, avoid it. Most boring and painful class I've experienced. He doesn't care about his students either -- whether you found an exam difficult or not doesn't matter. Brutal final. Avoid him or any of his classes.
Cell bio is about mechanisms and memorization! Be prepared! There's no other way in cell bio, than to understand mechanisms. This prof gives you everything. You can find all the information summarized in the slides, just learn everything and you'll get an A+.
This class is not about understanding, it is about memorizing every single detail on his BS powerpoints. The tests are terrrrrrrrrrible.
Very nice teacher, replies to your questions fast through email and provides great explanations. Cell bio (266) is in itself a full loaded course, and there is a lot to memorize. You don't need to show up to class though, since tests are directly out of power points. If you can manage to memorize everything, you will get an A+.
Very sweet man but his tests are incredibly tough. Material seems straightforward until you're sitting in the midterm or final and have no clue what to do. He was generous with grades, didn't fail anyone on either of our midterms, but a lot of us were barely scraping by. If you ever have him, memorize EVERY single bit of the notes.
highly recommend
highly recommend taking this prof. notes are posted and clear and easy to understand. Do not waste your time attending class. Everything you need to know is on the slides, no textbook needed. 2 Midterms are fair but the final is more difficult and cumulative but if you study every single detail of the slides you can get an A
This class was pretty dull to attend. The lecture slides contain all the information you could possibly need to know--as others mentioned, attending class is essentially pointless. It's definitely possible to do well in this class, it just requires memorizing EVERY single tiny detail form the slides.
Hard to understand due to thick accent, goes very fast, is unclear when answering questions.
Amazing teacher. His tests are a bit difficult but they never stray from his powerpoint. Never a question he won't answer, and always encourages them.
Vladimir is the rudest professor I've ever had a class with. He speaks at 60 words/minute, has a thick accent, and the mic doesn't work-- yet it is our fault we didn't understand! If you ask him a question he'll get annoyed with you pretty quickly, and his final would have been hard even as a take-home. just horrible experience!!
This class is full on memorization, so attendance isn't mandatory. Dr. Titorenko himself is actually a nice person. He encourages questions and is accessible during office hours. His exams however, really test you on your memorization skills. This course is definitely doable, but be prepared to memorize EVERY single detail from his slides!
this course is pure memorization so dont expect to pass if you are not going to memorize. his exams are not helping 2/3 of the exam is mcq composed of 6 options each consist of 3 long sentences you will get tired reading the question. the other "short" essay questions are not short , make sure to know all the names and how to briefly write it
He is a nice teacher that encourages you to ask questions but his exams are way to hard. So the best thing to do is skip class and during this time study by heart all his slides.
I stopped attending lectures after the first midterm. To pass the class you basically need to learn every single detail from his slides and he just goes over them during class time. He is kind of rude when you ask questions in class and he has a thick accent which gives you a hard time understand him. Lectures are also heavy.
Thick accent. Speaks too fast, no point in going to class he just rushes through his slides. Always complaining about how the attendance is low but never though his teaching skills are the reason... Tests are okay but he makes questions tricky on purpose. The details are in the wording not the actual material.
All he does during the lectures is read through the slides and gives impossible tests where the difficulty isn't in remembering the stuff you've studied but to understand what he's asking. He also gives six or seven choices on mcqs
I liked Vlad. He was pretty funny, answered questions VERY thoroughly. His slides are very concise and helpful. Just study them, you don't really have to come to class. Man o man his tests are hard though.I applaud his ability to make a tough test. Very tough MC and short answers are not always very short. Love his slides though so id recommend.
The class in itself is very interesting but is very content-heavy. Get ready to spend 3h a week just on quizzes (1 pre+post class+1h tutorial quiz) and get stressed before and after class thinking you forgot one. Midterm was wack: q on evolution even though this topic wasn't covered in class, in the slides, or in the textbook. Come to class or else
the class is very heavy and Vladimir doesn't help. His slides are so long and he never go trough them all. Its like you have to learn everything on your own. Coming to class is useless you will spend your time doing something else. His quizzes are out of space and the topics they covered are never heard of. Good luck guys, you will hate this class
don't take this class with him. there are other teachers too. the only way to get a good grade in this class is to memorize every single detail of the slides. attending class is completely useless. tutorials are fine you can actually learn something there. take the online quizzes they are helpful. there are two midterms which are really hard.
He is funny but gives incredibly difficult tests. Honestly, there's no point to going to class, if you can read the slides and take the notes at home. The tests require you to remember a crazy amount of information and know incredibly small details about certain parts. You need a good memory and be an incredibly hard worker, to get good grades.
hard class, not particularly simplified by the prof.
VERY TOUGH CLASS, teacher not great but fine.
Wildly hard exams. He has a really really thick accent so if your first language is not english I wish you luck. He is a nice man, but all of his lecture slides are straight from the text book.
Seriously no need to go to class, you won't understand anything anyway. All you need to succeed is to know all his slides by HEART to the smallest detail because his exams are very tricky. No need to get the book. Attend class the day before each exam to know what is covered. Good luck!
every single question was tricky, changed his outline a lot but he used to give both mc and sa questions. the sa were graded very poorly and the mc were tricky af. course material super heavy, lectures are hard to follow. he's funny and cool as a person but not as a teacher. literally worked my ass of and ended up with mediocre grade. good luck
His tests are rough- you need to remember everything from the slides. I stopped attending lectures early on. He only covers 1/4 of the slides and i don't find them to add any information that i couldn't read myself. I ended up spending almost all my time prioritizing this class because there is so much info
It is true that Titorenko does not cover much in the class (1/4 of the slides for each chapter, the rest is on your own) so it is useless to attend his classes since all of the information needed for the tests and final is in his lecture slides. Reading the book was not necessary to pass, but useful for any extra information and for the homework.
The class is relatively easy to do well in (online), but he seems to lack passion for teaching students. I feel like he belongs in a lab with other PhD people. Kinda mean, discourages participation by ignoring questions during class, so it's not that mandatory to attend lectures. Provides enough material for you to figure it out & still do okay.
I used to be a bio lover until I met this prof. My fav class is bio; Every time I attend his lectures. I be like losing interests in biology. Also, don't go to his lecture you won't be able to understand; got a thick accent. I regret the moment I register to this class. don't make the same mistake. Exams are ext hard. So don't
Gave 1 ridiculously easy midterm, then 1 so difficult it had to be completely removed from the grading scheme, then a final that was in between. All the info is the slides and exams were open book, so online its very easy. Hes horrible teacher though; gets through about 1/3 of the slides per unit and speaks super fast. Gotta read the textbook.
I mean hes a horrible prof. He speaks very fast with a heavy accent and still only usually gets through about a third of his slides per lecture, rest youre on your own. That being said it was an easy class because tests were open book and 90% of the answers could be found directly off his slides.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, take this teacher. Avoid him if you can, because he is just horrendous. He has a heavy accent and gets through 1/3 of the chapter each class (the rest you must teach yourself). Exams are EXTREMELY HARD. Class average was always a fail and he never did anythin about it, I don't even think he noticed. Impossible to memorize.
Here's the truth: cell bio is a hard class. It doesn't matter if Titorenko or God is teaching it. You need to memorize every detail or you won't do well. That being said, his slides are amazing. MEMORIZE THEM. You don't need to read the textbook but it really helps. I blew the midterm and still got an A. As for his accent - you'll get over it.
