Young, cool guy, a bit too laid-back. Teaches straight out of book, not very clear at all, does all example problems himself without getting class involved (so he doesn't really know if we get it or not unless we ask qts). Grades based on HW 10%, tests 60%, final 30%. Takes roll but doesn't care if you come as long as you do well on tests. So-so.
The most wonderful professor ever!!!He is young, just get his Math degree from UCLA, and really-really handsome, looks like a rockstar. At the same moment he cares a lot about his students, he asks to write him emails if you have any problems with your hworks.Very clear and understandable teacher, really cool!!I'm so happy that I am in his class!!!
He's an okay teacher. Teaches straight out of the book giving definitions, theorems, etc, things you can easily just read yourself. He is helpful though. He's really hot, looks like the guy from desperate housewives, but younger. Really laid back, attendance is not a must.
spandex? i don't remember that. but i do remember his desire to help everyone pass his class. people were just lazy. very lazy. vytas basically told us what was going to be on the final exam. he was new but got better over the course of the semester.
This guy is young and new, how great is that! He is very refreshing after all those old, hard, set in their ways, mean teachers who don't even curve no matter how bad the class does. The homework and tests aren't too bad, and he even offers an extra credit project. Definitely recommend.
New blood! His teaching improved greatly over the course of the semester. Very easy to talk to and will always make time. Not for slackers, but not backbreaking either. Overall a good experience. Better than most here in the math dept.
He is insanely hot, if you like the indie bum look. He's even on myspace if you wanna check him out ahead of time. Haha. He's only 26, so he is totally just one of the students. But at the same time, he's very serious (when he's not making Beavis and Butthead jokes during lecture). He LOVES math for some reason and teaches very passionately. Take i
This guy is still pretty young and new to the whole teaching thing, but he tries hard to relate to the students and present the stuff in an accessible way. For the most part, i would have to say that he accomplishes just that. The exams are straighforward. No surprises. The best part is that he grades on a curve. Don't take him if you want to slack
great teacher!! hottt!
i loved this class. he has a tendency to make people feel stupid for asking some questions, but other than that he is great. he loves math and will help you with anything. he's young and cool, but he is also a wonderful teacher: making sure to answer ALL questions thoroughly. do ur HW, know ur math, and come to class and u'll get an A. def take him
very helpful, and extremely hot
The material is hard but he does try his best to make sure u get it. Ask all the questions you want in class, he will always answer them. Vey compassionate nice person. He is also funny. His lectures could be a bit more structured but I think that is difficult in math. I would recommend him.Ps..if he says "know this problem" it will be on test!
The dude was like one of us. Way chill and pretty fun to be around. Nothing tricky on the tests. Extra credit. Good times.
BASKAUSKAS is the man!!! i'm in his class right now and he's super easy to get along with and helps out every time u have a question for him. he explains tough material really well so that u get it right away. i recommend everyone take his class. he can relate to u because he is around our age. super smart too.
He is an easier teacher than the others but he can be egotistical and mean. His final was so much harder than any of the tests. He is chill and jokes around a lot, but watch out for his big head.
Teaches as if his students are NOT Math majors. I'm not, so I really appreciated this approach. There are no surprises on the test especially if you keep up w/ the homework and try to attend class (I missed 3 lectures & still received an A during winter session). However, he can be condescending if he thinks that a question is stupid.
His lectures are really simple and straightforward. He actually talks to the students and connect with them rather than ranting on by himself like other math professors. Oh, and he's really good looking.
He rushes through problems THE FIRST TIME! He's easy on the eyes, but that becomes old and annoying the first day. He needs to focus on the students who are struggling and not the ones who want to be his friends. He becomes frustrated when students don't understand. I'd rather have an old crusty professor anyday. The purpose of school is to learn
It seems like the slacker backers have united to give this prof a positive rating. I had to teach myself geometry because he couldn't be bothered to do anything except write definitions on the board that are already in the book. He is very unprepared and wings it every class, even on test days.
He is funny .i personally hate geometry but he taught well and if u had any questions you can ask him.
Did not complete the geometry class. He only taught to 6.1. Writes on the board what is exactly in the book. Forgets to give tests are test dates, so he postpones, forgets to return exams, even layed on the floor. He's even lazy to create his own test, so he tests on ch. test or randomlly chooses problems and writes them on the board. I DO NOT RECO
Passing geometry was easy with him. He puts everything on the test that we discuss in class. No crazy problems at all. The only reason we didn't go very far was that the people who didn't do the homework took up all the classtime with questions about problems they didn't even try. He would rather see us learn than skip ahead. Very nice guy.
Attendance is not mandatory but it's better if you come. Homework is mandatory and due on test days. Tests are very do-able. Explains everything wonderfully. TAKE HIM!!
awsome guy to get to know very chill and very layed back but notice how i didn't say awsome teacher he teaches right out of the book he said that the book cost a lot of money so why not use it and put it to good use? well sometimes its best to learn away from the book then everything from the book u either pass if you know geo or just good at math
Baskauskas is a cool, funny and a very smart professor. he is very articulate with his teachings, and he is super cool when you have a question abt something you didnt understand. he is very laid back. just study, and youll do fine.
not cool, shows up to class late, eats food as he sits on his desk and "teaches." Has no idea how to grade a test, thinks a 91% is a "B." Totally cocky, he seems like a cool guy to have a beer with, but definitely should not be teaching. Disorganized and disrespectful. Demeaning and degrading.
professor B is awesome! i dont know why these people are talking bad about him. (maybe its those lazy people who aren't whiling to learn) hes super cool. hes funy, and super smart. hes like a human calculator. hes a great professor! hes a fair grader, who wants all students to pass his class. hes great! take him. just dont be lazy. study!
Great teacher! He has an incredible grasp (mastery)of the subject and wants his students to do well. He has a playful nature while being serious about getting the material explained. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat.
HE IS SUCH A GREAT MATH PROFESSOR!!!!!!HE'S VERY NICE AND U ACTUALLY WANT TO ATTEND HIS CLASS!!! U'LL LOVE IT!
IF MATH IS NOT YOUR BEST SUBJECT AND YOU HATE MATH ...TAKE THIS CLASS! ....YOU WILL LOVE THE CLASS SOO MUCH AND YOU WILL LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL . MR. V IS A VERY VERY NICE PROFESSOR HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AND SOMETIMES HE LETS YOU OUT EARLY SO YOU CAN DO THE WORK. HE WANTS FOR EVERYONE TO GET AN "A" . TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM!
this teacher is the Best. He is entertaining and makes math fun. one of the best professors i've had at SMC.
if you're a reeeally slow learner when it comes to math, don't take him because he has a tendency to skip a couple of steps when explaining a problem, which is not a problem if you're good at it or if your head works as fast as his. other than that, take him. his explanations are clear and understandable. the people who give him bad ratings are the
Vytas has a really chill Buddhist yoga vibe. He Teaches straight from the book. His tests are weird though. 1/4 of the test was tricky T/F ?'s. And the final was rediculously hard. He gave out extra credit assignments and let the class out an hour early. I would recommend him if you're looking for a more laid back and libertarian math professor.
He is arrogant to the extreme. Hot, but is kinda a jerk. Can't be bothered to answer questions, although encouraged us to do so on the first day. Seems to pick on people who lack confidence. Overall, don't understand what all the fuss over him is about- he's more impressed with himself than I am.
Cool guy. Very laid back. His method of teaching is more to lead us through the book than do anything of his own creation. Still, the pace is good and the tests fair.
He is quite snobby which makes me uncomfortable to ask questions. He makes the students go through the book on our own. He does one example on the board and then expects us to do one. He also only writes half of a problem on the board, and doesnt do baby steps to show how he got what. I wouldn't recommend him if math is your sore spot.
Great guy, good natured, dearly &=ly cares4 his students.Comes from an unusual backround=unique!CONSIDERATE-Surprised the hell out of us w/ a takehomefinal!Very clear& concise, hates lazy ppl,e/though he's1:)Can b intimidating bc he's young cute&smart but dont be!A friend couldnt speak Eng,got D+F's but still passed cuz he saw that she really tried!
The prior comments are fairly accurate (he texts, admits to be frustrated at some ?s, and is hot) but here's some pertinent information. Attendance doesn't alter your grade (he gives pop quizzes so u shouldn't be absent or late). 50% of the grade is based on 2 midterms (curves scores), 45% on the final and 5% on the homework/quizzes. Winter session
Jesus people. This prof was one of the clearest, most concise teachers I've ever had. He announced on the first day that he wasn't going to baby anyone and that all questions would be answered as long as you did the homework. Stop hating. Just because he comes off arrogant sometimes doesn't mean you should throw the baby out with the bathwater,
He comes off as a little condescending or cocky but it's just his sense of humor. If you joke with him but still respect him as the teacher he will be really nice to you. He's laid back and if you just try and complete the work you will pass the class.
This is pretty much a self taught class. He takes for ever to return graded test, and can be rude and disrespectful. The positives include the fact that attendance is not mandatory, and he lets you out super early. Would not recommend.
Statistics is a logical class and luckily Vytas is willing to take time to make sense of concepts. Pay attention or he will single you out (you probably deserve it though). Not the easiest teacher, but he was cool in Geometry and was reasonable for Stats. I recommend him if you like teachers that are easy going! :)
He was great. very clear on what was being taught, and makes class enjoyable with jokes. he's cute in a beach bum kind of way, after all he was raised in santa monica. he is however cocky and into himself, but honestly what 30 year old man isn't.
WILL NEVER ANSWER ANY E-MAILS!
this is a self taught class, he does one example and expects us to be ready for the test. no reviews, no study guides, no examples to certain concepts, no questions, I repeat no questions in class!! even if relates to the H.W! After THIS PROFESSOR I am considering switching to a different college. My opinion of SMC is not the same at all!
I agree to comments made earlier. My mom has been a teacher at SMC for 14 years and even she had never seen such unprofessional teacher at SMC. He will not tell you if tests are commulative or not, and will never answer any e-mails or questions. your on you own in this class.. just u and the book, Good luck!
I honestly didnt care much, I filed the tests and he still passed me with a C. the class is boring, and i failled the tests because he would confuse us alkl the time. I wish I took this class with a different teacher, I think I would have learned more but whatever
I got an A in the class only because I worked really hard. Tests are very tricky, pop quiz every once a week on things we didn't even learn YET. HE is difficault to understand, he isn't the clearest, always in his own world:/
Mr. B is my favorite teacher at SMC and I have been waiting to take his class again for a long time. Didn't disappoint. He doesn't take any crap and will call you out if you try to pull one over on him. The person below is crazy because he answers ALL questions! He won't even start class until all questions are answered.
This dude is not like all the other teachers you will ever encounter. HE IS AWESOME, I KNOW ALL THESE PEOPLE IN THE WINTER CLAS ARE BUGGING! TESTS WERE MY ONLY COMPLAINT (WE NEEDED A ASTUDY GUIDE..I ALWAYS STUDIED THE WRONG STUFF OVERALL A GREAT TEACHER, SMART A** BUT DONT DO OR SAY STUPID THING AND YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM. TRUE CLASS ACT!
Mr. B! I didn't know this website was for professors to comment on their own teaching skills! well its nice to see you here too! Definitely is one of his kind, never answers questions, caresless for any of his students. Flashing $ down the toilet is a better use of money than joining this mikey mouse class.Don't settle 4 an ok prof, its ur educatio
For sure is one of the top idiots in our poor education system today. Good luck to all taking his class...btw if he gives u takehome tests/finals PAY $ someone to do it for you, and u will get an A in the class! he doesn't care how hard you work. And chicks use ur assets, it will take you far to an A in this guy's class!
Nice guy. Easy to talk to. I learned some math.
A nice guy but I didn't learn much math, could be more productive. maybe with a ifferent professor.
Smart guy but not when it comes to passing down the info
After one example he moves on to the next chapter, if it was Algebra I would understand but in statistics concepts tend to be more complicated and one example is sure not enough to move on to the next chapter. Very short on explenations that are pretty hard to understand
Love this guy. SUPER clear. Not old and curmudgeony.
He uses the textbook A LOT, so be prepared to bring it every day. Otherwise, Mr. Baskaaskaskaskaskas is pretty easygoing. The way he exsplains things is really great.
No study guids, uses the book only, and rush over the material without explaining. Never devotes any time to his students, or office hours.
Prof B is a very nice man. His class has helped me become more comfortable with maths. I am very appreciative of this teacher.
He teaches in a way that is easy to understand and relate to. I could never make the office hour times, but he would make appointments to work with me when I needed extra help. I think thats pretty great.
SUPER HOT, and a good teacher, have a little crush on him ;-). Funny, cool, and laid back. Even though he does not collect the homework until the test dates, do it anyway daily, it really helps.Tests are basic, no tricky. He answers all quests.
Don't honestly know why this guy is teaching. He doesn't want to be there and makes that pretty clear. Doesn't really explain much and is disorganized. Is kinda rude when questions are asked. Overall, there have got to be better stats teachers at SMC- find them!
Took him for Stats over Winter. Got an A and really didn't have to try hard. He doesn't baby you or play pawn for the needy students, so if that's you, then better get a babysitter :)
Baskaukas has a great personality..he cares for his students will try to make the material as fun and interesting as possible. BUT STATISTICS ITSELF IS NOT EASY (especially if you are not good in word problems-because the class itself is ALL word problems) But Mr. B will explain the material and give examples/not an easy A but you want to take him!
If you HATE math but you HAVE to take statistics BASKAUSKAS is the professor you want to take it with(all other professors make the material harder than what it already is)SO TAKE BASKAUSKAS(if you take it with any other prof. then get ready to repeat the course)BASKAUKAS makes you want to attend a math class, makes the material to ur adv. takeHIM!
Vytas is super dope!!! He made class fun and entertaining. Explains the material well, he cracks jokes all the time. 1st test is easy his third test is a challenging and final was fair and he doesn't take attendance but he remembers if you don't show up
He is a really good professor he made geometry less boring. He gives extra credit at some point of the semester. HW amount and tests are fair. The week of the final he came on his own time to help us with problems that we had, which was nice of him to do. It's great when a teacher cares about they're students.
He really tries to act cool & chill, but the truth is: he can't teach! He just makes you do a buncha homework problems & when you ask questions, he looks at you in a disgusted way. There are times when he can be quite hilarious w/ his jokes and times when he's rude. Overall, he's a brilliant guy but when it comes to teaching calc...he's horrible.
extremely brillant. not always the best at explaining what he doesnt find difficult to understand. however he admits that & will do his best. his exam problems come from the book so there are no surprises. he tries to make sure everyone passes. recommend you take his class. he is funny and easy going and will make the class time enjoyable.
He can be abrupt at times, but it is only when students are being lazy and not doing the work they should be. Otherwise, I found him to be interesting and helpful. Tests are a breeze.
If he thinks that it is simple then he wont help you understand what you are doing wrong. Not all of us think alike - not all of us can get it just from the book.. that's why we come to class, that's why the state of CA send you a paycheck.. Please accommodate all questions in a professional manner. Other than those issues I did well in the class
Wake up people! You're in college. I, for one, appreciate how he doesn't accomodate whiners. He's not going to baby you, but you will learn the material if you try. Why take five minutes to answer a question that you should already know BEFORE taking the course when everyone else is ready to move on. Teaching this level must be tough.
Professor Baskauskas is great, he is so helpful and willing to answer any questions that you may have. Also he is actually in his office just waithing for us to go and ask him a question. Also make sure to do the homework assigned before the next class metting because he does tend to give a quiz to see who is actually doing the work. N major hottie
Cool guy as long as you don't get on his bad side... For me it was an eeeeeasy A.
I like his way of teaching eventhough he goes over the material pretty fast. Things that are really annoying are that he's always late for class, he's constantly checking his phone and he gives the class a break whenever he needs to handle 'personal stuff' I guess..
Good guy. Easy exams. Teaches the material well. Not too slow, not too fast.
Don't talk when hes talking, and you'll you get along with him fine. funny dude. pretty clear with the material the first time around, but dont be afraid to ask questions. if you dont ask...he can only expect that you understand. Great class, not the easiest but not to hard. Recommended to anyone
THE BOMB!!!!!!
I got an A in his class. You really dont have to go to class you can teach it to yourself since questions are very very similiar to homework. I would still advise you to go to the class because some problems might give you trouble. Good Teacher and a good sense of humor.
BEST TEACHER EVERRRRRRR!!!!!! he can be a little mean if you aren't up to speed with the rest of us tho. very generous grader.
He's ok but if you can take another teacher do so. Make him your last alternative. Math18
people under 19 should not be allowed to post on ratemp. The man is trying to make the class fun.But it is calculus during summer. Phone rang in class and he was kind about it.He doesnt belittle. He can definitely teach. But yes, three tests with no quizzes are gonna be tough.
Got a B. Probably shouldve gotten a C. Thanks prof.
he is a really awesome teacher no dought about that he can be funny at times and also can be wired.. it's a really easy class he knows his stuff... the only thing is that he dose not explain the work and will jump ahead and give you the answer. he is a good teacher but he just needs to explain his work but over all a really awesome teacher.....
I'm not a math person at all, hate it in fact, but he made this class understandable and not impossible. Do the homework and study for tests and you should be fine. Fun teacher!
He is a really cool and funny guy. If you did well in Alg2 it should be a breeze. He just introduces the subject does some examples then talks politic and stuff, gives hw, all the odd one and then goes over them the next day. He also does yoga. He comes in with the same bathing suit and tshirt everday, walks around barefoot TAKE HIM second to Ramsey
Pretty much half the class is review from Algebra II, only more challenging. Homework is a big part of getting the concept, but only 5% of the grade. Tests are straightforward. Occasionally gives pop-quiz based on last night's HW. Overall, a nice teacher. He skipped a few chapters though. I hope that won't come back to haunt me.
He's definitely something else. Passes you if you show some understanding of the concept. Uses book a lot. Answers most questions. Gives a pop quiz occasionally, so do your homework! If you're lazy and want to do little work and still pass, he's your man. Says the highest grade on the final gets A+ in the class regardless of past marks.
Got an A but not an easy one. Just do all your homework and u should be fine.
We had a M-F 3 hr/day 6 week class, he spent maybe 20 minutes a day actually lecturing, he does deminstrate a great understanding and his lectures are clear but he only covers a small amount of the text and then makes you look up the rest and do tons of hw to make up for his wanting to leave early to get to his other job.
What to Expect: 3 exams + final. HW assigned every class out of the book- graded. Lectures from the book and Tests are from the book! Explains topics only once- crystal clear & very detailed- and doesn't have patience to repeat himself. So, listen carefully. Grading Style: No drops for exam scores. In the end curves a lot for B's & C's- NOT FOR A'S
Precalculus: A disappointment because he looks and acts as though he is a great guy. However, he is actually quite arrogant and condescending, which very much overshadow his teaching and his communication. I would recommend a more seasoned and mature teacher.
Took precalc over the summer with Prof Baskauskas. He did a good job of making the 6 weeks of all day math quite bearable. Was a fun professor and cared about teaching us. Not many A's given though and he never let out early or missed class :(
He is really funny and really hot! As for class purposes he expects you to know what is going on so if you are lost sometimes the way he talks makes you feel dumb but he pretty much sticks to the book and let's you use the calculator for everything he tries to make it an easy class but it is still tough if you are good at math.
He is a really patient really funny comes to class like no other teacher will. He will make learning math really easy for you if you show up to class everyday. Come to class every day and do your homework you will get a easy A.
Stats is pretty tricky, but he makes it really easy to understand. Homework is due on day of exams; there are 3 exams and a final, with quizzes assigned randomly. Most of the work is done on the calculator, but you have to understand the idea behind the calculations. Really nice guy & really funny. Also kinda looks like the lead singer of Bon Iver.
He had a great initial impression with me but over the semester, I lost respect. He took forever to grade tests, reused old exams (with questions that didn't apply to what we were learning), came late every day, and often let us out early bc he had things to do. Who uses SCANTRONS for math? Too lazy to grade our exams and give partial credit.
He is as good as it gets for a math professor. There is a lot of work on your own but that is what you should expect from a college class. He does a good job teaching you the material and making it as simple as possible.
Super chill and laid back dude and pretty straight forward with you. you will have to teach yourself the subject and he'll just recap it. I liked it this way. MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS!!! it doesn't get better than that in a math class!! FINAL WAS A breeze as he reused all old questions! overall he wants us all to succeed.
He's active as soon as he walks into class, he sometimes gives the 411, but he goes straight to the front and ask students if they had any questions on the homework; he goes over them on the board. He's not difficult, homework is giving everyday the class meets, but he explains it so easily that makes you fall in love with math.
He is the chillest professor ever! Your classwork would mostly be about homework problems that classmates/you didn't understand. Also just go over review problems. Mostly grades on homework and quizzes/test! So do your best on those.
really chill! he never gave back test results but the test were easy. very clear and explains well so it makes it easy to learn. kinda goes of topic a lot but its fun. talks a lot about the show survivor ....Eliminated!!! lol. awesome teachers and very good teachers
Chill dude, a little too chill. as far as teaching goes he's awesome! if it seems one ounce too complicated he'll drill it to the class until everyone understands or goes over it the first time very well! Reviews the homework, actually cares, a little arrogant but i guess you can't have it all in a professor. Id take him every time!
his lack of caring is hard & really affects the class. No structure, he thinks he's helping by preparing us for grad school professors like him but quite the opposite. You'll end up just teaching yourself the material in this class.
He is nice and cool professor. He is hot and smart. He makes everything simple for you. The tests are multiple choice with some short answers. His tests are not hard if you work hard. He let you leave early and sometimes absent. The class is very chill. I got a B even i did not work hard. If i do, i'll get a A for sure. Just put effor in your work.
His test are easy, but he is a rude professor and does not like to answer questions. You have to teach yourself and when someone asks a question, he makes them feel dumb. He is cocky and talks about himself that sometimes he doesn't go over the material and then he expects his students to know it.
Sure, he is chill and pretty easy, but the worst professor I have encountered by far. He is extremely cocky, puts minimal interest into his class, and gets enjoyment out of making students feel stupid. You will have to teach yourself everything because he rushes through everything so the he can leave. I do NOT recommend him
Professor Baskauskas, has a poor interest in teaching statistics. I had taken him in summer 2014 and I had to withdraw from his class. This professor dismisses a 3hr course by 2 hrs or does not show up at all and talks more about himself than teach. Be aware that you will have to teach yourself the material if your planning to take him, good luck.
I did next to no homework and managed to get a C. Very understanding that after this class, stats has little to do with our actual lives. GET THE CALCULATOR AND LEARN TO USE IT!! That's 70% of the class. Tests were pretty straight forward. He is awesome though. Makes classes easy to stay awake during and very entertaining.
He is super arrogant and cocky. He can be nice if he wants to but mostly makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Dismisses class 30 minutes into a 3hour class. You will have to teach yourself. He makes it clear you need to be exceptional for an A. If he feels like teaching the material, he does it well though.
Good teacher. I learned a lot. Stayed with me after class one time for almost an hour to explain something.
Learned the material and was better prepared than most for my next class. Smart teacher. Won't help you if you're not helping yourself.
If you have a history of struggling in math, do not take his class. I was not looking for "hand-holding" (as was often implied) but some of us need more help and clearer lectures than others. He's very casual and laid back, which is cool if that's your thing, but I prefer a more structured environment. Definitely not a good match for everyone.
Although he is strict when it comes to knowing the prerequisites, Mr B is always down to help students that are struggling with the current material. Don't take him if you need to review your old stuff, but def take him if you want someone who teaches well and doesn't let you slide.
Professor Baskauskas is AMAZING! His lecture is short but very clear, and he is very good at making complicated and abstract concepts simple. If you are taking him for stats, he will let you at leat pass with a C. But he does assign a ton of homework and you will have to do them b/c it count towards a grade. He is fun and his class is ENJOYABLE.
This guy is unconventional but ultimately makes the class easy. He is unorganized so be prepared to do some learning on your own. But he gives good tests. They're always on stuff he went over thoroughly in class. He really does care about his students and if you show him you're trying he'll work with you a lot. Wish i could take him again.
Dr. Baskauskas is dope. I found myself remembering bits of his lectures during random times in the day, working out at the gym, while at chemistry class, etc. While math is a didactic subject, Dr. Baskauskas explained things in a conceptually solid basis and his confidence/intelligence seemed to permeate the classroom. 5/5 inspiring.
I failed stats the first 2 times I took it and this was my last chance. Mr. B was really cool and down to earth. At first he can be kind of rude and strict, but as the class progressed he was one of the funniest math teachers I've ever had. He likes to go off on tangents, but unlike other teachers, his are interesting. Tests are simple. Lots of HW.
You have to like his personality to take this class. His teaching method is heavily rooted in his personality. He is smart and will remind you constantly. Personally I liked him cause I find his sarcastic humor appealing. Not everyone can relate. Teaches like he is teaching scholars and there is plenty of homework to be done.
Professor Baskauskas is a funny dude. I really enjoy his class and his ridiculous stories. His class always ends early. If you are a self-learner and a lay back person, choose his class. If you expect the professor to teach you everything, avoid this class. There are tricky questions in the exam. Definitely do the homework and review sections.
i don't show up to class to stare at the bottom of my teachers shoes and watch him play on his phone and talk about himself. waste of money and time. get a teacher who cares about their job. he doesn't even try to do the bare minimum. flakes on class all the time. then spends the class lecturing students on how to be a responsible adult. hes a joke
THANK GOD FOR MR B! I've always been afraid of math and after his class, I have to say that I actually like statistics. He really cares about his students even though there were a few that didn't like his sense of humor, I thought he was hilarious. Be ready to do lots of work though. His motto is practice practice practice.
Took him during the winter to repeat a course! was extremely scared because stats is a heavy class in general. Baskauskas class is easy If your actually dedicated. His exams are easy and if you don't pass it's probably because your not spending enough time studying or doing your homework. Homewrok was worth 5% and he leaves about 3 hours of it.
Prof B is one of the best math professors I've ever had since my childhood. I am a foreigner and I wasn't suppose to take high level math for my major in my country. I was scared and prof B told me to come to class,do hw and I will be fine. You need to work hard for any math 2 class. Prof B makes things easy and his test are easy if you study hard.
I took professor B in the winter semester, he is very knowledgeable and caring. He does assign a lot of homework but it's to help us prepare for the exams. Take professor B, you will not regret it!
Professor B is hands down the best math professor I've had. He explains the important and abstract concepts in calculus in a way that could be easily understood by students. He is a chill and funny guy too. The exams are worth A LOT in your total grade but an A is definitely doable as long as you do the homework which is assigned daily.
Over rated, liked him better on survivor. Too laid back (lazy) & tough grader. He LITERALLY writes his own tests (handwritten). He also words them differently than how he teaches so its confusing. Oh and does not do much notes on board. pop quizzes and going off topic 25/8 .
Prof B is not as chill as he seems. He makes people feel dumb when they ask questions (actually rolled his eyes once), condescends, cancels class randomly and is overall a pretty rude and impatient dude. At least he's condescending to everyone so you know it ain't personal. Take his class if you want to teach yourself.
Vytas Bauskaskas is delusional. He is a terrible teacher and if you decided to take him, be ready to learn calculus on your own. He gives trick questions on his tests and when everyone fails he simply blames everyone for not working hard enough. He never even considers that he is simply a terrible teacher.
Cool professor. Not too hard. But def not easy. Always open to questions and encourages office hour attendance. If you work hard, you'll get an A
This professor is a good choice for committed, hard-working students; his tests are very difficult and designed to weed out the "just here for the credit" students. Do your homework and more, as he tends to put textbook questions on exams. Don't skip class, as he does tell you what will be on the exam.
He's rude and condescending when students ask questions he thinks are dumb. Goes on a bunch of long tangents about his personal life. Didn't spend enough time on topics in my opinion.
Great professor, definitely would take again. You will get an A if try hard
He's very chill and willing to help you when you don't understand a problem from the homework. He encourages you to ask questions and to visit him during his office hours. He does give homework and he collects them. His test were pretty moderate, not hard but not easy either. It could be really easy if you do the homework and study.
He is the best math teacher ever , i was so lucky to have this chance to being one of his students
I took him for math 54, stats. All his test were multiple choice and very straight forward. I recommend him, he doesn't take attendance either.
he's a simple professor. as long as you study and do your Hw you should be able to pass.
Highly recommend for math 54. Grade consists of 3 exams, a final, and homework/some classwork and quizzes are only worth 5% of your grade. He's very sarcastic but very funny at the same time because he goes on tangents about non-math related topics. Exams are very straightforward and if you study the notes and review the book you'll do well.
He is a really nice and great professor! He teaches so well! You'll definitely get an A if you do all your homework and go to lectures all the time :)
The best professor ever! Just attend the classes, do your reading, do the hw, and ask questions. If he assigns reading, that means you'll have a quiz on that chapters. Also, if it's a holiday (like Columbus day) there's a big chance Mr. Baskauskas not gonna show up for the class. Don't take this class if you're bad with logical thinking.
Nice guy. Demands a lot from his students and can make you feel pretty bad for not doing the work and keeping up. If you're on it though, he's great.
He is the best professor! He won't make you feel like you're dumb, instead, he encourages you to be better and that it's okay if you made a mistake as long as you were able to catch it and improve next time. He encourages his students to ask questions during a lecture about the homework! It may b hard but it's not bad at all as long as you study!
I absolutely hate his class. He goes way too fast and just tells you what to do but not exactly why. He gives history lessons of math and Im not learning anything. I go into stem just to get help do not take him
He's a good professor in the sense that he explains concepts well. The key to doing well in class is reading the doing the homework. I do not recommend for students whose strengths are not in the math area. He can be condescending at times and I feel it discourages students from asking questions.
This was my 3rd time doing stats and it went ok. No online hw, all hw is done from the textbook on paper. His tests were multiple choice so that was easy in a way. He is very condescending when it comes to answering questions and he does a bad job at announcing whenever day the tests are. He does not have a syllabus at all
ONE OF THE TOUGHEST PROFESSORS I'VE HAD. ASSUMES YOU'VE READ AHEAD AND KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT WITHOUT PREVIOUS EXPLANATION.
What Math teacher gives a scantron multiple choice test? If you are someone like me who struggles in Math this teacher is not for you. I ended up dropping the class because I was so stressed. He talks about himself only and puts down the students. I don't think he even took the time to get to know one student's name in the class.
Do not take his class if you want to pass stat. He doesnt explain his lecture very well and expect you to know everything. He doesnt give you enough time to study for the midterm. He make his students feel bad for not knowing math. He doesnt come to you when you raise your hand for help instead you have to walk up to him.
Great professor! Explains everything so well & is so chill. Study hard and pay attention to do well in his class. And the best yoga teacher!
Skipped one lecture because I was evacuating my horse during the Malibu fires and did not know there was a test when I showed up to the next class. Did not let me take exam at a later date, had to drop. Was my last requirement and was forced to stay an extra semester at SMC. Friendly enough and cracks funny jokes, but makes you work for that A.
Do not take this class if youre not strong enough in math to get an A by yourself. You will get no feedback. If you ask for clarification on something he might just mock you and move on. He bullies his students and his just not a nice person. He doesnt care about you or your grades. This prof is the only reason I dont have a 4.0. Beware!!!
Professor knows how to explain math. Ive struggled finding a good teacher who can explain it well, he is the one. He wouldnt teach every concept that is explained in textbook. Luckily he would upload pre recorded lectures, assign homework from textbook and have Q&A about homework next day. Heavily relies on exams and expect lots of homework.
NEVER responded to emails. Homework was on paper, as well as exams, so I never knew exactly what I was doing wrong. Feel like I didnt learn anything.
Stats is pretty hard as it is. I've taken two Stat classes before this one, Mr. B was my third time and it definitely was my charm. He broke down math simpler > other professors. He relies on tests and final exam, he tells you why too. He gives homework out, not much opportunities for extra credit, and class isn't mandatory unless there is an exam.
I used an extra tutor for this class because whenever I asked a question in class he would ridicule me. Although initially I thought he was friendly and outgoing, he has an inflated ego and I would not recommend him if you want a no-nonsense teacher that is focused on teaching the material. He would rather talk about himself than answer questions.
A lot of people talk about Mr. B negatively but honestly hes very kind and cares for his students. Doing the HW is CRUCIAL for the q&a to HELP YOU. If you ask ?s Mr. B will always answer them @ the q&a with no judgment. Obv if you ask something he just said hell be annoyed like anyone but hes always trying to help students. MVP! Thanks Mr. B
Okay so this guy was the last available professor to take math 54 and despite is not great grade i took him and he was awful. For starters theres a reason all the low ratings say he has an ego. Think twice before you ask a question because if its not one he wants to answer dont be surprised if he scoffs and laughs in your face. Take at ur own risk
95% of the grade is exams. 5% is hw. Hw is due at the end of every month, but if you don't keep up with his pace, you can't ask q's about a previous hw. I'm sure he's nice, but he just seemed to make the actual class (not learning calc, his teaching is okay) harder than it needed to be. Not the worst prof, but look around first before choosing him.
I took his pre-calculus during winter. He's pretty entertaining and his lectures are short and concise. I learned a lot during this semester, and would take it again. The only thing that many classmates didn't like was the amount of HW. Roughly 20-50 questions per night I would say, which is due at the end of the week. Really recommend his course.
Although we had a lot of homework throughout the course, I learned A LOT through him. His lectures were short and straightforward and asking him questions can seem intimidating (due to his firm personality) but he genuinely welcomes them and wants to help you. He was funny and seemed passionate about math, which allowed me to have fun as well.
He lectures so clearly and concisely and even though he had 2 hours to lecture every day, he would get through material in 25 minutes in the most easy to understand way. Don't take the class if you're offended easily and he'll sometimes make you feel a little dumb for asking a question but it was so worth it. Made learning calc 1 amazing. 10/10
He is the rudest and most passive aggressive professor I've ever had. Always had an attitude and clearly did not enjoy teaching the class. He told us we were unintelligent when we asked a question about something on the homework that he did not cover in class. He assigned too much unnecessary busywork.
Overall a friendly and kind guy who believes in his students. The class is highly exam-heavy, with 3 exams worth %20 of your grade and a final worth %35, the final exam score replaces the lowest exam score. Homework and pop quizzes worth %5. assigns a lot of homework and reading and requires you to work and make time for the class.
Prof B is a good and well-qualified professor. However, be warned, you're graded on basically 4 exams. He will match your effort but he was a little overly friendly if you girls know what I mean. I'd take his class again because he really was an excellent calc teacher but personally, he's definitely a know-it-all and doesn't even try to hide it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. he doesn't teach nor does he enjoy teaching in any capacity. if you take math with him, you will have to teach yourself. he is disorganized (no syllabus, no lecture notes, no group work, no format to teaching). during class, he does one example problem and expects students to understand without actually teaching the concept.
WORST MATH PROFESSOR AT SMC. He had no lesson plan, no helpful feedback, no lecture presentation, no group work, did not check the homework but assigned a ton of it, and did not actually teach. He is the most unorganized professor I've ever had. He had no plan and doesn't know what he's doing. Take any other course over this one.
I would recommend taking professor B, I found his lectures to be great, homework and class participation really matter for your own knowledge. His tests are heavy but reasonable and he curves them and takes off problems that everyone found too hard, welcomes questions and reviews all questions form each homework so do make sure to do it on time.
Prof B is an amazing professor he doesn't cover many examples when covering a lesson but he does cover a lot of the hmwk problms the next class typically, he is very friendly and shows a great passion for teaching, his class is a class that can be easily passed if you spend that right amount of time practicing. If you respect him he'll respect you.
Amazing professor that made calc 1 so enjoyable. He truly shows a passion for teaching and cares about his students. His lectures are amazing and goes over any and every hw problem you might have leaving you confident with the material. His tests are very good, if you solve all the hw, you are most likely going to get an A. LOVED HIS CLASS SO MUCH!
Takes forever to grade.
easy test if you do the homework
Pros: Tests are hw based Cons: No extensive explanations or notes lack of care for students terrible personality and attitude makes you feel bad for asking clarification questions "fairness" factor penalizes half your test score grade for missing small errors in your work never responds to emails
Very esay prof, exam from the homework. Just focus on your homework and you'll get nice grade in the end!
3 exams (20% each) and a final (35%). Tons of hw (5%), submitted before each exam (once a month). Exams are literally the homework and textbook examples. He gives partial credits and replaces the lowest exam score with the final. Class usually ends early. Put effort into the homework and you will be fine.
Prof B is a passionate teacher who makes calc 1 engaging. His lectures are top-notch, and he's super helpful with homework. Exams are challenging but fair - do the practice problems and you'll likely get an A. Unstuck ai was a great study tool too.
He's nice but assigns a lot of homework, due every 4 weeks. Tests are difficult and not always related to homework. Grading takes a long time, especially for the final exam, taken 12/11, released 1/5. The class median usually stays around a C, even after curving. His tests give 2 pts per question, with no pts for correct answers without steps.
Not recommending taking his class, his tests are really hard and... yeah, no extra credits. Tests are often given with 12-15 questions with 20-24 pts, no excuse for correct answers without showing the way. If you haven't had the base of math 7, you might extremely struggle from gaining ideal GPA from his class.
He is an interesting man, I feel like you love him or you hate him lol. He is a bit unapproachable and makes it uncomfortable to ask questions because he can be condescending. However, exams are homework based and straight forward. He is not super thorough in lecture but can be if you ask him to elaborate, if you do not fear his snarky responses
Average professor. Took Math 8 with him during the winter. It was a bit harder because of the short semester. All tests and exam were out of 24 points, 2 points per question. Final was 35% and tests was 65%. The test was based on homework and problems he did on the board, so I recommend coming to class everyday. First few days were mandatory.
He can be difficult to approach and doesn't engage much outside of class, like responding to emails. During lectures, he sometimes places the responsibility solely on students when concepts aren't immediately clear, which can make the learning environment less supportive.
Tests are worth most of the grade and are graded harshly. I had him for calc 1 and calc 2. calc 1 was fine since the material was not very complex, but his teaching style includes summarizing what the text book says, copying the example problems in the book onto the board, and assigning practice problems that we don't review at all.
