doesn't know how to teach, skinny guy
Dont ask for help cause u wont get any. That vooice cracking has to go!
He has to go! Shouldn't call himself a teacher more like a monitor that hasn't

No help what-so-ever. needs to be put under a review of some sort
My A in that couse was a great triumph over the man teaching it...
That screaching voice and nasty attitude need to go.
What a linux geek !

not the best personality..but a very good informative teacher
He belittles you and makes you feel like you are 2 inches tall. I'm not stupid!

Absolutely no help at all. Ask a question only if you want to feel like crap.
Should quit being a teacher. Isn't helpful.. needs to learn to teach
The only helpfull thing i got from him was rh72.pl and that was after he left
**** teacher, need to learn students are human and not linux gods
He's the worst ever, he really needs to go get a life and quit teaching
His teaching skills slowly improving. If you want to pass, seek help elsewhere.
He seems annoyed when asked for help. Not everyone is as educated as you are.
He is skilled in Linux but absolutely not helpful to students.
Reality Check! We are not all *nix gods!
Snaps at his students

Ive had him before for basic Linux, He has improved very much so as a teacher since then. Had Perl with him, much more clearer with instructions/lectures this semester. Still a very hard marker, but much improvement and helping this time.
Don't bother going to his skinny-tall lectures. Useless.
The exams are impossible.
I am not impressed with 1st assignment. If you have not programmed before and you take collins class, be prepared. Graphic properties teach yourself..as far as teaching methods and classes and how to incorporate files well...SOL, Overall I am not happy
Mr. Collins is a good teacher in my opinion. As for me failing the class, that was my own fault.
While not a bad person, he is useless when it comes to helping students, when we ask questions all we get is a question in return.
Great Teacher. Makes his students work for their grade. Thanks for being a great teacher.
Not that he would read this but. The Midterm was a Nightmare. WHY would the college let him write the midterm for 4 people? Boggles my mind. IF you are in any of his classes, be prepared. No matter how much you think you know about UNIX, Collins will prove other wise.
The Most ignorante exam I have ever written. I feel that I have been CHEATED from thie MIDTERM! This teacher is brutal and has no sympathy for students who are learning. He thinks everyone is an Expert, well guess what we are not! Dont bother taking this course waiste of $$.
SON OF A..
If you take one of the walkthroughs from his exams and run it on a computer...it will crash...thats how wierd they are...
1. Not helpful in class. 2. Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. 3. If you don't know Unix, you're ****ed and he hates you. 4. He seems to think that you come into the course with prior knowledge of the language he's supposed to be teaching you. Bad bad bad teacher.
Horrible teacher, falsely accused me of academic dishonesty which ruined my record. Makes you feel like an idiot if you ask him anything as if he was annoyed by you. Very anti-social... The list goes on.
Who hired this guy and why is he still around?
Absolute Genius when it comes to computers. Absolute moron when it comes to teaching about them. I respect the brain, but not the methods! I should've tried to get rid of this guy a long time ago. Chances are I would've!
The guy is great. Weird sense of humor but that goes for all unix dudes. If he makes you feel like an idiot, you probably are one or you have not paid enough attention to the lectures. Just one suggestion, please lose the tricky, nonsense questions on your tests, they kill brain cells.
Not clear enough when teaching. Seems eager to teach, but doesn't have a planned approach to teach material.

Lecture are realy clear. Does not want to help students. cant grasp that soem people just are not experts at perl (im prity good) I here he writes brutal midterms to. The talk down to you and just does not want to help! I hate teachers union for protecting guys like this! i lerned more from people in my class
His midterms are like the hardest you will ever write. He never explains stuff and I have learned more from my classmates than from him.... Very bad teacher....
WTF? Is he a teacher or another loser? I hate him. He cannot teach anything properly. Maybe he understands it, but he cannot explain it to others... GO HOME COLLINS
never help.
Talks too soft, refuses to raise voice, will start teaching a class despite the students that are coming from the last class aren't there yet, and midterm was rediculously stupid, things he didn't even attempt to cover, were on it.

Smart man, but hard to get answers from.
this guy failed me by 2%, when i was obviously a dedicated student (came to EVERY lab/lecture class, was paying attention, tried to answer the few questions he asked.) Thanks Collins.
This man absolutely does not like his job - assumes that you know everything and if you ask for help he will just give you the "what the hell?" look - i hated that look. i was pretty much on my own - which is not what i paid for, if u want me to study on my own without instructor then i won't pay for an instructor - easy as that
He is definitely not a people person. When he passes you in the hallways he acts like you don't exist. Trying to get beneficial help from him was difficult, if not impossible. I think he is really good at what he does, but not when it comes to teaching. He should stick to something that does not involve trying to teach people how to use unix.
Useless. Terrible. Dead. He has no enthusiasm, or skill to teach. Expects you to know everything. Not clear with institutions or answering any problems. Speaks very abrupt and kinda geeky, makes you almost scared of him. Made no personal connection with anyone unless the student was well known for late assignments, and all he did then put them down
It's funny that I learned more from a dead guy than I did from Wayne Collins. Ask a question, get insulted, ask for help, get the cold shoulder. Go away already.
Overall good teacher, very informative, mildly condescending so be prepared to be talked down to if you aren't paying 110% attention. but otherwise very knowledgeable.
Would never take his class again. Expects way too much prior knowledge and then remembering how to use it. Not worth the headache of trying to learn it on your own.
The overall atmosphere was intimidating. He expected a lot of prior knowledge imo. The first midterm was hell; didn't cover some of the material on there. The guy knows his stuff but is way too condescending towards his students. Get ready to learn a lot on your own if you don't have any prior experience with java.
He doesn't really teach, just talks at you. He assumes a lot of prior knowledge in things and doesn't really give clear answers. I don't know if its just the class Parallel Processing but I'm just not used to being told factoids and then having to read online to solve all my assignments because he only taught you what doesn't work, never what does.
Without a doubt, the worst teacher I've ever had. He condescends students in class and assumes students have a vast knowledge of his content. His lectures consist of: Him standing at the front of the class, telling the students to read the Oracle documentation and then making fun of people and questioning their intelligence if they don't understand
Sadly this is more of a self taught course and he doesnt help you much. Teaching the course by yourself without the help of a so-called instructor makes you the victim of a scam artist. This isnt exactly what I pay for yet I question the colleges reputation. Expect tough marking scheme for 1st assignment but the rest is surprisingly fair
Decent professor. Like others mentioned, mildly condescending and his tone might make students anxious when asking for help (if they're anything like me). However, I do believe he was still caring, experienced, fair, and generally thorough about future content; without the need to spoon-feed you. Try not to bug him excessively though.
Wayne Collins got a bad rap by a few of my classmates, but I personally loved his class and teaching style. He's very serious but friendly and really wants students to succeed. Admittedly he didn't have much patience for people who fall behind, but if you are willing to put your best effort Wayne will make it worth your time. You'll learn a lot.
Taught a Introduction to Python class, the first 4 weeks were nothing but matchstick puzzles and anything other to do than actual programming. Wouldn't have been so bad if the final exam didn't have a matchstick problem worth 15/100 marks. When he's actually teaching coding he's not bad.
He must stop grading assignments and tests toughly!!!
Probably one of the smartest Professors at our school. He sets his students up for higher learning. Will validate understanding and answer questions patiently. You can tell he is extremely passionate about what he does. If you actually want to learn more than what is taught then he is your go to. Highly recommend.
He distrustful.
He really needs to stop marking too hard if he truly wants to help students obtain knowledge in basic programming stuff as a professor.
Complexity and tough grading obsessed professor.
He is one of the worst programming professors. Therefore, do not select and take his class otherwise you will definitely fail.
Tough marker. Needs to take it easy or removed since he fails so many students
Genuinely the worst, on assignments he will deduct big marks (minus 10-20 points) if it's not absolutely perfect, forgets he's teaching beginners and not coders who already have years of experience with python. Final exam? get ready to do a multiple choice on a bunch of stuff he never taught or published into the course material. Stay clear of him.
Avoid unless you're a lefty. I skipped most of the lectures, as it was mainly his opinion on the hot political issues & he makes it clear that anyone that doesn't conform to his antagonistic woke ideology is a heckin' bigot. Basically agree with him in class/tests and you will pass. He regularly made derogatory comments & put down critical thought.
Wayne Collins is completely uninterested in engaging with students who are, almost always, complete newcomers to programming. He will literally wave his arms like a disgruntled child when asked innocuous questions, and if he finds out that you have struggled to immediately pick up a new concept, he will loudly attempt to point you to the door.
attendance is not mandatory but he will refuse to answer your questions if you are a student who regularly skips. go to class, he will explain nearly everything that shows up on tests and will be kind to you if you don't skip. the course is basically graded on 4 tests, including your final exams. W Collins more like L Collins
Wayne Collins made this a lot harder than it needed to be. Derogatory terms to students, a bad way of teaching concepts to students, very tough grader, talks to us like he expects experience even though its a beginners class, had us use AI for the first two labs then completely shifted throwing us into the dark, I feel like my money is wasted.
Mr. Collins does not give much constructive feedback, often leaving vague comments. He is condescending to everyone. Has a large ego. Does not explain concepts well at all. Will tell you "you will not find a job in this field if you don't understand this". I advise everyone to avoid this professor.
THIS MF GRADES BASED ON HOW HE'S FEELING.
guy is so condescending. treats everyone like theyre a professional programmer, like bro im in 555, this is a side quest to my course
Not a good teacher in the slightest. Condescending towards students, his ego is enormous, and extremely pretentious.
I find the feedback of Professor Collins on this website extremely misleading and it caused unwarranted rumors. While he is a hard grader and stresses the importance of perfection a bit too much, he is an effective teacher and provides time every week for one-on-one feedback and working sessions. Maybe people should show up to class regularly...
If I could give 0 stars, I would. This professor is one of the most discouraging instructors I've ever had. The grading is harsh even when you follow the rubric, you still get low marks with no clear feedback. Overall, this class has been a nightmare. I've never felt so unsupported or frustrated in a course. Avoid if you can, seriously.
Very disappointed with this course.he types code without explanation doesn't responds to questions about assignments or tests with, 'You have to figure it out yourself.' There's not enough time given on tests, and grading feels unfair, marks taken off for small mistakes. If you want to pass, run far away. If you stay, hope for a 50%.
I would not recommend you to take any class with this professor
Collins provides minimal feedback or assistance to both in person and online questions, often being discouraging to students. The tests themselves are extremely long, and students often leave questions blank, or incomplete! Instead of assistant students, he often provides harsh answers! Extremely difficult teacher! Be prepared to rush tests!
He's a good professor, understand all the material for first semester and give us lot of material to practice
