The best teacher I've ever had.
Best Teacher in College That I have seen....he really knows his stuff and teaches you a ton!
awesome. my best professor so far
Could be the best professor in the college of architecture. Passionate about his work.
best professor ever
Great teacher. I didn't like him at first, but was very helpful and everyone learned a lot. Was named Prof of the year 02-03 by student nominations. Has a very unique fashion sense.
very good
he is a good teacher, but really cold toward students
Good teacher, but has some issues with control.
Very good teacher and very passionate about what he teachers. Sometimes he can get upset with students who don't pay attention or don't do work, but if you do what you're supposed to he's very nice and helpful. AWESOME teacher!
awesome awesome professor. believes and passionate in what he teaches and really works to help students understand if they dont and are willing to commit a little outside class time
Very Knowledgable
He is a very knowledgeable teacher, and I learned a lot in his class, but if you don't go to his "review sessions" on Tues. and Thurs., you miss a lot.
Good professor, very helpful and gives easy quizzes that help your grade between rare exams.
Made everything he taught understandable and went over in so much detail that it was almost impossible not to understand.
If you go to class and listen and take good notes you are golden
He was tough and some don't like his personality, but I liked his teaching style. He's passionate and doesn't like nonsense or slackers. If you go to class, take notes, and care at all, you'll do just fine. He even offers extra credit at times. Best teacher in college thus far. Taking a non-mandatory class now just because he's teaching it.
Couldn't stand him. Throws way too much information all at once, and a lot of it is random and doesn't even pertain to the class. Has MAJOR control issues. Exams have questions not even discussed in class ever.
Very good professor, enthusiastic about what he is teaching. He presents material in a way that is easy to learn, some students do not like his style, but I think it is very good. He prepares you well for tests, which are easy if you study, and gives very easy quizzes for attending class. Never really had to read the textbook.
Kind, considerate, extremely fair. Best teacher ever. Go to class, take notes, read extra materials including book and you'll earn a easy A.
Outstanding professor, better guy. Student of his in the early 80's @ Kent- "look at what 's happened to me..."
AMAZING teacher. He explains things really well and his passion for the subject makes it easier to understand. I never really used the book. If you pay attention, you're golden. Honestly, he was the only reason I considered staying in Architecture.
Awesome instructor, best prof ever, made a boring subject come alive for me. He knows his stuff for sure. Goes out of his way to be fair in giving out grades. Great classroom techniques to get us to learn. He's too under- appreciated by some students, the college and the whole university. Others can learn sooooo much from him.
Good course !!!
wonderful learning experience, eye opening for me in so many ways, i almost always looked forward to class wondering what new things there'd be waiting for me to learn
He gets off topic quite often, but knows a lot about history of the designed and teaches in a great way! He prepares you well for test, but you have to memorize a lot of information.
THE best ... ever! Love this class and learning so much. I find everything so well taught and relevant. He ties it all together in ways that make us realize who we are and how we got this way. Funny and passionate and entertaining too.
Professor Charney turns what is normally a very dull and boring subject into a entertaining and enlightening class. No books necessary as he covers all test material in class or with his handouts. No doubt you will enjoy Charney as a teacher. Warning: Do not enter class late! His biggest pet peeve.
Worked harder than I thought but learned so much more than I thought. Very good professor.
Great prof who really knows how to teach.
Charney may be a tough cookie but he is certainly one of the most helpful professors on this campus! And do not be tardy to class he will kind about it at first but gives big consequences later!
Amazing Class! Probably one of the best classes i have taken in a long time. The class covers a lot of information, but i always felt prepared for the information on the test. Charney makes history come alive and not boring at all.
I love history now thnx to charney
good job charney
Best teacher I've ever had. I would take his classes every semester if I could.
Amazing teacher. You can tell during his lectures that he has been teaching the subject for a long time and really knows what he is talking about. His tests are the same format every time, and fairly easy if you study enough. He gives out easy pop quizzes, so show up to class. No need to buy the textbook.
Charney was an amazing professor and was really knowledgeable in the subjects he lectured about. As long as you went to class and studied for his tests then the class was not that bad. It was definitely my favorite class both semesters.
Great lectures, I learned so much in his classes. He has pop quizzes, but he hands them out at the start of class, and the answers are given over the course of the class if you pay attention, you really need to go to class, and going to class is actually engaging, one of the best professors I've had.
Good teacher, knows his stuff. Gives you fair warning about how much you'll need to study for second and third test and will bump your grade up if he knows your tried.
Great class. Looking forward to History 2.
i really enjoyed history 1 and looked forward to history 2 a lot and was not disappointed so far this semester, the course gets better and better and i'm learning so much I never thought i could
If you attend his lectures you will most likely get an A. Of course, you will have to study for the tests though but it becomes much easier if you attend his lectures. He is always there for you. He really cares and is passionate about the subject.
Amazing and very helpful powerpoints which he puts up online to help us review lecture material and study for tests. He has a way of making history interesting and I really never liked history all that much before.
Professor Charney is a great guy. He is a really kind person and has an extensive knowledge of architectural history. You can't go wrong taking his class. You will learn a lot and he is a pleasant person to be around.
Occasional jokes are great
Good class. Enjoyed his experience voiced in lecture. Lots of studying required for tests!! Definitely a manageable class, you just need to be on top of studying.
Great teacher. Show up and take notes and you should be fine.
Charney is sassy and classy. He's passionate about what he teaches which makes the class so much more engaging. 10/10 would recommend. I always looked forward to going to his class.
Charney is very passionate about history and building designs. He is very wordy (which can be confusing at times). He does a lot of pop quizzes (they are easy). DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!! He provides powerpoints and quizlets to study.
As a person who doesn't like history, Charney makes everything very enjoyable. Look forward to the fertility figures and the twin peaks.
Charney is the best. So funny and really makes architecture history interesting and entertaining. really cares about his students. Only con is he wont let you take notes on a laptop. fun fact: he went to high school with david hasselhoff.
Charney is an awesome teacher and really does want his students to do well. If you can stay focused and take good notes you are set to succeed in his class.
Very good teacher and very knowledgeable in the history of architecture. However, he can be rude at times when it isnt necessary and doesnt like to answer questions. Was extremely against K-State Unite (a campus-wide celebration of diversity) to the point of it being extremely disrespectful. Nevertheless, his teaching was good.
I learned more than I thought I could about architecture history. Great lectures and amazing powerpoints that he puts online for studying for tests. He puts together a quizlet set for terms too that help out alot.
His tests are pretty tough, but if you actually study they aren't toooo bad. He's an amazing professor and helps you out in office hours very well.
I will preface this by saying he is a fantastic lecturer, and for me just showing up to class was enough for A's and high B's with minimal studying the day or two before tests. However, he is one of the most smug and holier-than-thou professors I've seen. He talks down to students frequently, often to an unwarranted or excessive degree.
One of THE best professors you will ever encounter. He was so much better organized and more understanding than any of my other teachers during this whole pandemic online teaching thing.
Really passionate about history, and he knows what he is talking about. You definitely learn a lot from him. Tests are easy as long as you stay on top of the material and find some time to study. Nevertheless, he is a very rude person, and I have seen him be often disrespectful to his students in uncalled for situations. It can be disruptive
He really knows his stuff. His lectures are filled with great information. I learned more about cultural diversity than in any other class. His lecture on Buddhism was fascinating and ppts on Islam are so well handled. I just don't understand why some people have got such a mean grudge against him. The character assassination has got to stop.
Loved the class even though we had to go online for the last half of the semester. He made things real easy to get a good grade in bad times.
Took his class online during covid semester fall 2020. Very fun and inspiring prof. We had quizzes that correlated to powerpoints, usually 1-2 PPTs info per 1 quiz. The PPTs had lecture notes which was basically a transcript of what he would say for each slide. open resource quizzes (ppt, notes, etc) but they are timed so be familiar with material
Charney is an awesome history teacher. I agree that he handled teaching during COVID like he invented online teaching.
Can Charney please teach all our architecture history classes? He's just terrific when it comes to knowing almost everything about his subject and how to get students interested in it.
This has been one of my favorite classes that I have taken. I enjoy the conversations that we have in class and I like how the class is structured with the students presenting topics. I think the professor adapted really well to making the class online and it went very smoothly.
Honestly the most in depth and comprehensive history course Ive ever taken without being overwhelming. I love this class, Ive always loved history and he gives information that you need and want to learn.
Dr. Charney is an excellent teacher. He is always working very hard to be prepared for class, and is very enthusiastic about the topics we learn about. I appreciate all of his effort and enthusiasm as it has made me more interested in learning about the subject.
Dr. Charney, thank you so much for all you do. Your history courses are fantastic. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
I cannot express enough of how great of a teacher Prof. Charney is. His passion for history shows in the quality of his lectures and his excitement over the topics. I really enjoy his class and have learned a lot! I am glad we have him as a professor.
Incredible and effective teacher. Challenging coursework, but taught in an effective manner so as to give students the opportunity to succeed if they put forth the effort.
I am kind of a history nerd so I found the subject stimulating. I never missed a class because of how interesting I found it. At times I felt as though some test questions were too hard but his willingness to help you study shows his dedication to students. I appreciate that he taught about religious beliefs with great respect and professionalism.
Took this class a couple years ago before covid. This class is great! Excellent power point presentations. Really audience centered lectures. Good job of making things really clear and relating them to the present day.
Charney is one of the most engaging, interesting, knowledgable, and passionate instructors I have ever had in my life. He helped me learn very effectively and in a way I think every professor and instructor should emulate. He provided a wealth of information and a course I don't think I will ever forget.
Prof. Charney made learning the material in this class pretty easy, due to not only his knowledge of the subject, but also his animated and passionate delivery of the materials during lectures. I truly enjoyed this class and would recommend it to everyone!
I had Dr. Charney as my history professor several years ago. What stands out still is the fluidity of the lectures which were flawless. He was always prepared for class, 100%. I have the utmost respect for such a fantastic teacher.
He is a fantastic professor extremely knowledgable willing to go the extra mile to pass his knowledge on and teach in ways very easy to understand and retain. I wish I had taken more of his classes. He was more than willing to help students. I appreciate everything he had to offer as a very valuable faculty member so crucial to students futures.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had and Im unhappy that I dont get to take another one of his classes again. He loves what he teaches and you can see how happy he gets when he is able to share how incredible history can be.
Professor Charney has been an amazing asset to the program at K-State. He is extremely passionate about his subject matter, and the fact that he has been to some of the locations that he teaches us in lecture makes him all the more credible. He has literally been there and done that.
Mick Charney was one of my favorite professor Ive ever taken a class under. He was beyond passionate about what he was teaching and was extremely specific so there was no grey areas. He was a phenomenal professor. He challenged the class but made it a fun learning experience. I really did learn more than I ever thought I would.
Awesome teacher! Great classes! He always made me think more deeply about the subject and made me look at things from a different perspective. It was an absolutely necessary perspective on global architecture as a whole and where it has all come from. The comparisons of past examples to modern architecture particularly helped so much.
Dr. Charney was one oft he most dedicated and successful professors I have ever had. His lectures had a significant impact on virtualy all of my studio projects. The information was extremely well edited and effective. I never really liked history but he made it very interesting and it became my secondary degree path. I love the way he teaches.
Honestly one of the greatest if not THE greatest instructor I have ever had. Made it his mission to give students the absolute best learning experience. Tests were by no means easy although the clarity of lectures and amount of resources excited me about history. Energy and time he invested in class showed and was truly unmatched in my experience.
Prof. Charney was an amazing professor. He made all his classes informative, enjoyable and easy to follow. His assignments were relevant and set up in a way where I felt that I was truly learning new matter. This particular course on European modern was fantastic! I enjoyed it immensely! It's so important to have history seminars like this one.
Professional, engaging teaching style. Good class prep, presentation, explanations. Great knowledge of subject. Good assignments and timing between exams. Great online resources. Very fair balance of exam questions. Clear expectations. Classes were very helpful at the time and will continue to be so well into the future. We will miss his classes.
I too am definitely going to miss Professor Charney. He is a great teacher, knowledgeable, and clearly loves his job. It is easy to succeed in a class where the content is fascinating and taught highly.
Add me to the students expressing gratitude for his classes. He always came to class prepared, used different teaching methods to help lots of different people, had a way of making learning fun & easy and a passion that motivated us. Thanks for showing us all the amazing buildings of the world. I've never looked at any building the same way again.
Charney is an engaging, passionate teacher who really cares about the topic he teaches. I was so glad to have learned as much as I did over the course of taking his history classes. Thank you Professor Charney
Professor Charney's genuine desire to see us succeed showed in how he approached material taught in his courses. He made the material approachable and understandable. Phenomenal teacher!
Exceptional historian one of a kind teacher
two thumbs way up!
He just recently delivered a commemorative lecture about Frank Lloyd Wright's visit to Manhattan Kansas. It was probably the single best talk I've ever heard so well told with wonderful imagery. I will remember it for a long long time.
I never knew Wright was at K-State before this lecture. It was so good to hear this story and it made me appreciate K-State so much more. Great stories like this need to be told much more. Well done K-State.
As I get ready to graduate I want to thank Dr Charney because his first year history classes were a big reason why I decided to stay in the program. Thank you Charney!
Charney is unsurpassed as a teacher, lecturer and historian. He really knows his stuff. Tests were challenging but fair. His PowerPoints are masterful and visually engaging in their own right as well as very informative. Wish I could take just one more class from him.
The best teachers are the ones who enjoy their job and Charney is definitely one of those teachers!
I completely agree with the post below. I couldnt have asked for a better History teacher! He always came to class ready to teach and excited about it. The most interesting classes, taught by one of the best teachers I had the pleasure of having at KSU.
In all my time at K-State I don't think I ever came across a more passionate and dedicated teacher than Professor Charney because he was always prepared and made it enjoyable to learn his material
Feeling nostalgic for Charney's classes especially today when I think back to his wonderful lectures on religious architecture. My desire to continue learning architectural history throughout my career increased because of him. He's one of the very best well-educated teachers I've ever encountered. It was a joy having him as my teacher.
Architecture is a really tough curriculum but Charney's freshman year history courses prepared me well for a long five years of hard work. He made history and architecture so much more enjoyable than I ever thought it could be. I will long remember his hard work and the way he shared his knowledge. Thank you Charney!
What a wonderful teacher. I really enjoyed his lectures and wish I could take more of his classes. I will really miss his passion, hard work and his caring for how students do as well as they can. It came through in how he organized lecture topics and wrote up tests and then acknowledged our good work. And so knowledgeable too.
Mick gives THE best class lectures I've ever heard. You can tell he puts alot of work into them and that he really cares that his students learn the material. He makes history so enjoyable and stress free. The best indicator that he inspires students is that we all who have taken one of classes before wish we could attend even more of his lectures.
Yes! One of K-State's very best. I attended all classes and took all pop quizzes. They were easy to ace and went a long way in getting a good final grade. Exams were challenging but not impossible - they were clear and fair. Answers to some exam questions appeared elsewhere in the exam. I still remember and use the info I learned to this day.
I took his classes some years ago but what he taught and how he taught it still resonates with me today. He's a wonderful storyteller with the ability to keep students engaged all session long. Loved his PowerPoints and great syllabus. I could tell he put a lot of work into each session. He has set high standards for us all. The man simply excels.
Charney is a fantastic professor who makes history and architecture engaging. His lectures are visually stunning and packed with valuable insights. I found Unstuck AI super helpful for exam prep - definitely saved me some time.
