He is a great teacher. He is funny and he tries to be clear as possible, even thought he still has an accent. Just attend the class lectures and take notes and you'll be fine. It can get boring, but thats on you.
Great teacher! Funny and patient!
he was a poor teacher he didn't teach from the books o it made the course confusing.
He's very boring. All you got to do is come for the review and take good notes. I barely went to class but passed.
HE'S A PRETTY FUNNY GUY. hIS ACCENT MAKES IT ALITTLE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HES SAYING AND WRITE IT DOWN AT THE SAME TIME. HIS TEST ARE OK. NO HWWK BESIDES READING. i ONLY READ ALITTLE FROM THE BOOK AND JUST WENT TO CLASS AND I GOT AN A.
He is very organized. I was very clear of what was expected of me in this class. If you read the textbook and take good notes, this class is an easy 'A'. I recommend it.
very good teacher, just listen to the lecture dont buy the book, absorb his information on the review and ace the test, easy, no hw, 2midterms 1 final period. again JUST LISTEN TO THE LECTURES
Can barely understand him, went to class a few times... took the final n passed with a C...
He's a very easy teacher. Dont buy the book, waste of money. The lecture is not from the book. Just go to class and listen to lecture or at least the begining of the midterm day.
Take notes rather than read book. Review before tests. Only 3 tests. No termpaper. Only multiple choices. Take him if you want an A. But remmember good takenotes from lectures. No one fail.
If you don't want to learn anything, be bored, not have much homework, not be more excited about history, and get high grades easily then go ahead and have him as a teacher. There is no need to use the book.Because of all these he was not a good teacher. There is more to school than just passing class
just go to class listen and take notes no need for books just go for the review and u will be fine
He is VERY boring, yet his test are very easy... Just pay attention in class and your set...
super easy class to pass. no need for a book just study off his review sheet and goto his review session. no need to attend class either but extra credit is give if you have few absences.
I thought he was a very good teacher. I took a second class just for fun. As everone else said, if you pay attention to his lectures, you don't need the book. A bit of an accent but still easy to understand.
Very good class. Good teacher also. Take notes and U will pass easily (easy get A). 10% for attendance. Highly recommended. If U want to improve GPA, take this.
This class is a breeze, just get the study guides. I only went to review classes before exams, he reviewed the answers on the study guides. I got an A.
I wouldnt say "dont buy the book" maybee he changed because going to the lecture before an exam didnt do to well for me. He's harder then most teachers but not redicolous or tricky like some. Kinda strick and old fashion. Test were 90% of grade and attendance 10%. 4 some1 who doesnt test very well i found this class kinda hard.I can understand him!
his tests are not sooo easy ,but also not that much hard. yes they cover the class lectures. no need to buy the book.it is sometimes tough for me to understand his accent.ESL students must bring the dictonary, there are lots of words in the test that you may not be familiar with.
great teacher, interesting material. SUPER EASY! tests are based on JUST THE NOTES. you really dont even need the book. but a good teacher.
He covers like 90% of the tests in his lectures, and his final doesn't cover the entire semester, only his last lesson so that makes it easier. As long as you pay attention and take decent notes, you will do just fine in the class. Don't buy the book I bought it never opened it, and got 2 As outof 3 tests (so far). He has small accent.
Dont buy the book, JUST ATTEND THE CLASS...you dont even need that much notes because of the way he makes all the histroy events just flow together like a story- i can tell he's a very good story teller! (sometimes when he looses the next word he will pretend like something's in his throat just to cover up)lol
Excellent teacher! Just go to his lectures, take good notes, and you'll get an easy A, just like I did. Personally, I thought the book for his class was useless, but that's just my opinion! Overall a very good teacher who I can easily recommend!
His lectures are excellent. Easy to follow and comprehend. Better than the required text for the course and two others that I checked for presentations. He has made history for me more interesting than I ever imagine it could be.
This guy is great. His accent makes for humorous occasions, for instance instead of "it was a long hard winter" he says "it was a long hard weiner". LOOK FOR THAT MAN I SWEAR TO GOD. He gives great lectures, easy tests. You feel like you learn so god damn much it's incredible.
He's great. Most organized lectures ever! Didn't crack the book once and still got an A. Just take good notes and your set. He also gets the study guides to you fast, and grades only on tests. NO HOMEWORK... NO STUPID HISTORY PAPERS! Awesome!
Best professor ever!!! No homework, no papers, just 3 test. He gives you the study guide like 3 weeks in advance so you'll know what to take notes on in his lectures. He's very well organized and his reviews cover majority of the knowledge needed for his test. You DONT NEED THE BOOK for his course. I recommend him to everyone. Easy A, just review..
Totaly easy class. Just take notes, and show up for class. If you miss a class and you go to the review class you will get an easy a on the test. He has no homework, no papers and I never read the book. I got an a in the class.
Awesome. Easy teacher. NO homework, NO reports, just 3 tests. No comprehensive final either. Didn't even read the book, just payed attention and took good notes. He makes history fun (and i really hate history!) Definitely TAKE HIM.
Mr. Xu's class is very easy, but also VERY BORING! No need to buy the book just show up for his lectures and attempt to stay awake.
he is a good teacher tells you what is on the test and you better get him before classes fill up
This teacher rocks. go to every class, listen to the lecture, take the tests. he makes it VERY clear as to what you need to know for the test. anyone who says otherwise is a moron. point blank period. and his lectures are quite interesting.
You don't need the textbook to pass this class. However, in order to get an A, reading the book is a MUST. Attendance is important but not mandatory cause he probably gives you a better grade based on your attendance record. 3 tests only. No extra credit. A great instructor overall. He makes history fun to learn.
3 exams only. NO homework. He gives you enough information in his review right before the test so that you understand the main points and can pass. Easy class. Very hard to stay awake. Attendance is not mandatory. RECOMMENDED
Okay, one word "easy". You must take this guy. Easy A and no text book require! I love him. Even though I had a hard time staying awake in his class lecture.
First of all... History is not the easiest subject in the world. At least for me it isn't. But Mr. Xu's rather informative lectures left me with a smiling face. He knows quite a bit about the subjects he lectures and its fun having discussions with him. Advice--> Take lots of notes. It will help!
no homework. doesnt really teach history, its more like he gives his opinion. which is ok but the tests arent on his opinion, the tests are on what really happened. so you just have to know what to pick and pull from what he says.
Not hard at all. Lectures are pretty straight forward. Take good notes (which does mean coming to class), read the chapters, and you should ace the exams with no problem. There are no papers to write and exams are multiple choice (50 questions), or you can choose an essay option.
Really easy, and nice teacher. If you suck at history but want to get over it just take him and pass easily. He gives good lecture notes and a lot of tips for the test. Only 3 tests and thats it.
Even though I thought Mr. Xu's class was quite the bore and I did not understand him at times due to his heavy accent, it was a breeze. Attendance is worth 30 points, and there are two exams. Thats it. As long as you take good notes, and come the class before the final review, you should be just fine. I would recommend this class.
Really good teacher. I learned a lot from his class. He says some wierd stuff at times. Ex. when he was teaching about slavery he said "they chained them up like fish." His pronounciation is pretty funny too. But it is a good class. I recommend it.
Easy teacher, only thing you do in this class is take a bunch of notes. The book isnt really needed and you can pass without it with all the notes he gives you. I passed with a by barely even reading the book and just going by his notes. Cool teacher, laidback. Definitely should take this class if you want to just cruise through history17a
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This Class Is ALL Lecture, ALL Note Taking, Two Mid-Terms, One Final. You Lose Points When You Miss Class and You Don't Use The Book AT ALL! He Has A Very Thick Accent Which Makes It Hard To Understand...SAVE YOUR MONEY & TIME!!!
Really easy teacher. All lecture class take good notes and you will pass all three test. Grades on a curve. Attendance mandatory, but go to class and you will pass. I got a B and I hate history.
WOW the worst teacher I have ever had. Absolutely uninteresting and all lecture. His accent is too thick to understand at times. I got a D. I will not retake his class.
there's absolutely no way anyone can fail this class. It's like he wants all his students to pass. He grades his tests very easily even for someone as dumb as i am. People may say he's boring but that's because they have no interest in history or they are just sleepy. trust me there's no way anyone can fail under his teachings. great teacher.
this dude is awesome & can be funny if you pay attention. once you take a test you can forget what you learned bc it wont be on the final. word: the only ppl that dont pass the exams are LAZY, on facebook,or are NO SHOWS to class. he lectures the entire class so drink a redbull before class cus you might get sleepy & be prepared to write.
I passed with a B and I barely study. I probably studied for about 2 hours prior to each tests. No need to buy the book just study from his notes, if u not a good note taker, look up the info online. Attendance r mandatory. His lectures r more like his opinion, he talks for the whole lecture. only 3 tests, no hw. Grade tests on a curve.
I have never gotten a surpurb grade in History- ever- until his class. Amazing teacher. If you attend every class- take good notes, and go to his review sessions- you will do well if not great. If you slack off and don't take notes you will score poorly.
Nice professor, grade is based on 3 test all worth 30% of your final grade. Attendance is mandatory, so don't slack off. The last 10% is based upon attendance which could help you pass the class at the end of the semester if your border line. Take notes and study, all is covered in his lectures. Long class so Drink caffeine to stay awake!
He is a great teacher who is very very lenient when it comes to grades. If you come to every single lecture and take notes, you'll be fine. Attendance is extremely important, if you miss class too much he won't let you take his exams. If you take good notes, you won't need to buy the text.
Prof. Xu is overall a decent teacher. Straight lectures. So if you cannot handle listening to someone speak for long periods of time, do not take this class. He is very clear with his lectures, KNOWS his material and shows interest. Take notes, attend class, and you'll be fine. Grade = 3 exams (30% each), 10% attendance.
YOu should always go to class if you wanna get a good grade! yes its history so its lectures and you should take notes but if you do everything then there is nothing to be afraid of, i think he is very nice.
He is able to make history much more interesting than it actually is during his lectures. I find listening to him more enjoyable than just reading the textbook. I suggest coming to every class so you don't have to go to the review day in case you missed some notes. I would take another class with him. He is also a very friendly professor.
he is very nice teacher, easy on grading scale, if u attend class regularly and show u are committed, he might be generous to curve u on grading scale at the end of semester. Attendance is big part, cuz u need to take notes and study, cus he tell u wat on the test, study them and u will do fine. no need to buy text book, but do take good notes
Good teacher. Well prepared for class most of the time. This is a lecture note taking class, so go to class and it should be an easy A. He grades his exams on a slight curve. If you attend class everyday, you do not need to buy the text to receive an A.
he is easy and nice. easy A
Attend class and take notes because that's where most of the questions for the 3 midterms come from. He will let you know the important things to remember. He is well prepared for most classes.
Very nice and knowledgeable professor. He lectures off the top of his head most of the time and shows slides. Unless you're there to act like you're attending college and ignore everything he says, it's an easy class. I now have an interest in American history that I didn't before thanks to him.
He is a wonderful teacher! He is extremely sweet and considerate of your feelings. He rounds grades if you demonstrate effort and his notes are clear. He has a review session that really helps if you missed any classes but try to attend them all because 70% of his test questions are from his in class notes.I learned more here than in High school.
I really enjoyed this class. He's very nice and his lectures were super helpful when studying for exams. Go to his exam reviews, he pretty much tells you what's on the test. You'll definitely get an A if you attend all his lectures and review sessions.
He is really passionate about teaching! There are two midterms and a final so make sure you study. Go to the review sessions and you will do just fine.
Not a bad course at all. Professor Xu is helpful if you have any questions on the material. Reading and a quiz almost every week, two midterms, and a final. Again very straightforward, just do the work and you'll get the grade you want.
Good Professor. He is very helpful. But you have to work hard too.
Two midterms and one final, easy A. You can miss a few lectures and still get an A if you show up for his review session and take good notes. Very helpful if you have a question. Drops the curve. If you have good attendance he'll bump your grade if you are border line. Makes learning a content dense class tolerable.
Gave lectures on most days. Two tests during the semester and had a choice of doing a scantron test or an essay.
Took online course. Expect to read the book. Easy A.
Took his history class online. Expect to read the book and take good notes. He only assigns tests, no homework to turn in. His tests are hard though. Make sure to study before taking the test! Even though its an online exam u still have to study hard! this class wasn't easy for me
The ONLY complaint I had about this course was some of the multimedia links were DOA, so a few of the educational films we were supposed to watch were just no longer on the film library site, BUT while those were interesting to watch they were not essential to passing. Prof. Xu was very nice and the course was interesting.
Super easy class. Read the book and you'll do well.
Took his online class. He gives out study guide for weekly quizes and exam which is great. Totally will take him again if I could :)
His class was my favorite of the semester because it was pretty simple. There are notes that are mandatory if you wanna pass, but even if you miss a few (or all), you can always show up on the review for the two midterms and final. I didn't use the textbook recommended often but still got an A. Easy A class if you remember some high school history.
Most of test material comes from the lectures and attendance counts for around 10% of your grade, so showing up to class would probably a good idea. Pay attention to what he says and take good notes; he emphasizes what you'll need to know for the test so there shouldn't be any surprises.
I took him online and his course online is beyond difficult. Do not take him online!
There is no homework in this online class besides reading the chapters and then having quizzes due by Sunday night. You have midterms sometimes due by Sundays too consisting of 4 chapters. They can be hard even though he provides a study guide. I created my own and ended up do way better in the class. Good luck.
This online class is easy. You have a whole week to read the chapters and complete your tests before they are due on Sundays. I was surprised that I received a B in this class.
So boring. I often tuned out to what was being said. Once you tune out, it is really hard to tune back in. If you are good at memorization and listening to lectures that seem to last forever you will get an A. There are three tests in total, which are basically your whole grade. He gives one review session before each test which really helps.
If you're taking his online US History course do yourself a HUGE favor and buy the online version of the textbook. The quizzes and tests ask for incredibly specific and irrelevant topics and I had to spend hours on each quiz trying to find the answers. If you buy the online book then you're pretty much guaranteed an A.
Your grade is based on three midterms and one final exam. Attend every lecture and take good notes. Always do the reading and attend the review sessions.
There are no lectures and all you have to do are weekly quizzes. (+ 2 midterms and a final). Quiz questions come only be found in the textbook since they are ridiculously specific. I spent around an hour on every quiz searching the textbook for answers. Overall, the class is great if you don't care about history and just want history credit.
This class is easy online if you just do the quiz. You can do anything at your own pace. Just make sure you do the work he assigns. Take this class online. Easy A if you know high school history.
His online class consist of quizzes. Buy the textbook and take notes on it to help you prepare for the quizzes. Overall, this is a Gen Ed that I can get over with.
His online class is easy. You only have to do quizzes and read the textbook to take notes. This class is an easy A if you do good on the quizzes, midterms and final. Take this stable online class if you want to get over history.
Knows what he is talking about, very heavy accent. Hard to understand at times, attendance is mandatory if you want to get a decent grade. Grades you on attendance. Lectures everyday, actually have to listen to get good notes. Two midterms and one final. Never used the textbook, tests were only based on his lectures. Would not take again
Online class one of the easiest Ive ever taken. Nothing expect multiple choice tests, midterms and final. No papers no conversion forums. Tests are not easy at all but read the book and have an online version while youre taking tests and its an easy A. He doesnt let you retake tests if you missed any so stay on time and dont forget to take tests.
Your grade is based on three midterms and one final exam. Must attend the lecture to get good notes. Always do the reading( don't have to if you want) and must attend the review sessions. Find a person who takes really good notes and studies with that person. Don't buy the book if you want to waste money.
It's an okay online class. There's no contact with the prof much. All you do is take quizzes (20 ?'s) every week, then a midterm (50 ?'s) about every 4-5 quizzes. Quizzes and tests are extremely difficult. Must read the book, otherwise you're going to be sitting there for an hour searching through the text.
The class itself is easy as it consists of 13 quizzes and 3 tests and no other major assignments. The quiz questions are word for word from the book. There is NO extra credit so if you don't do well on the tests, you can't save your grade. If you even miss one quiz, there's no way to save your grade because each quiz is worth 40 points.
Just show up to the lectures and you'll be fine. He says 30% of the midterm comes from the book, but I never got the textbook and did fine.
This class is very easy! Your grade is based on weekly quizzes and 3 major tests. I would recommend getting the online version of the textbook since all exams are heavily based on the reading.
I loved his class. He is easy to follow during lectures and the class itself is super easy. All you have to do is show up to every class and do 3 easy exams with very lenient grading. Book is not really needed, lectures are more than enough.
Easy online multiple choice class but it is very very hard if you don't read. so prepare to read in details and answer 20 questions each week
This online class could be easy if you have an online book. But if you are not, it is a heavy reading class. His grading criteria is solid. 1 syllable quiz, 10 quizzes, 2 midterms and 1 final determine your grade in this class, no extra credit, no extension deadline or make up test. Some questions are really specific, some can Google out.
If you take an online class, BUY AN EBOOK!!! His online class are extremely hard, his quizzes and tests are tricky. Lot of reading! Make sure you understand the concept before take a quiz or test. Save your quiz, some questions are repetitive on midterm or final.
Easiest online history class I have taken. No essays, 4 short, easy discussions, and a twenty question multiple choice quiz every Sunday. 2 midterms and a final (not cumulative). Tests took me a long time because I didn't have the ebook, but I was still able to do them without reading the textbook beforehand. Little to no contact with the professor
This professor was very easy. The grade in the class is based mainly on quizzes and tests (open book). There are no essays in the class although he provides links to the videos to watch. There was a 2 hour limit for quizzes and 3 hours for tests.
This man is horrible! Boring lectures that I can barley understand with his accent. Absolutely no homework and doesn't engage the class in anything then gives us a 5 chapter midterm. His review sheets for the midterms are worthless and unhelpful. Give out some homework/ extra credit so we can raise our grade up! Thank God this is your last semester
This Professor is very good as responding to emails quickly. However, the syntax of the questions in quizzes and exams is not clear, and due to this I found taking quizzes and exams frustrating. In many cases, answers that should have been correct for certain questions were incorrect due to the unclear wording. I would not recommend this professor.
Very straight forward. 4 discussion posts, weekly quizzes and 3 exams. Get the online version of the book!
