I had fun learning in this class. yes his test are hard, but thats why they are application test. you must apply what you learned on them. attendance is a must. but if you do that then you will be fine. he is a great guy.

Dr. D, is honestly a great professor. HE is honest, and he wants his students to learn the material. TAKE HIM! Not only will you learn about history you will learn to appreciate it. I will definitely take him again.

This professor is a very good teacher. He generaly cares for his students and wants them to succed in life. He is a little unclear with somethings but that just makes you have to pay attention even more. I would take him again without a doubt.

Good teacher. If you smoke, make sure you do it with him. Kiss ass, and read. Papers are serious. He likes students and golf.

Be prepared to work hard. If you are pretty good at writing papers and essay questions, you will do extremely well, but if you are not study a lot. He is very energetic and very helpful if you ask him. Don't be late and go to class or you will be lost.

it's up to you how easy or hard this class is. easy if you do the reading, take good notes, and study. hard if you slack off. just like real life. dudley presents the material clearly but it's up to you to learn it or not. learn or fail. your choice!

He reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield! I used to hate history before his class, but he makes it fun. Here's a tip for the tests -- its 10 identifies and 1 essay, but all topics are covered in lecture, so just go back to book and take notes on what he touched on -- Don't worry about the extra stuff!

Take Dr. Dudly's class! This guy is a trip. I hated history, now I think I want to be a history major. I actually enjoy going to class everytime it meets. As long as you read and take good notes you'll get an A in this class.

WOW!! Great teacher! Lectures are interesting and fun. Dudley makes history come alive. You have to do a paper but it is not as bad as some of the other teachers papers. Definately take this class if you need NC history.

He can actually make history interesting, funny guy. His test are WI that was the only negative part of class but if you study and come to class the tests are no problem. Oh yeah has a crazy attendence policy so go to class, but you'll want to.

Dr. D is the greatest! As long as you really know your notes, go to class, and read the chapters, the test are not that bad. Make sure to put lots of time into your paper--don't wait until the last minute to work on it!!!

One of the best teachers I have ever had. Tests are short answer/essay, but they are not hard because he makes the information easy to learn. But you must study to do well. Exceptional class.

Amazing professor. He'll help you out and is very clear in what he wants on tests. If you put in enough studying and come to class there is no reason you shouldn't get at least a B.

Dr D knows his North Carolina history and is right on the money with his historical theory. Very Caring and will do anything to help you. Great sense of humor. Loved going to class. Dr. Dudley is by far my favorite professor, and definitely the best history instructor I've EVER had. He really makes you care about what you're learning because he stresses WHY things happened. Lectures seem to fly by - 50 minutes pass and you won't even notice it. Tests aren't easy, but you'll do great if you study enough.

You get what you earn in the class. He is a very clear and great professor but only take it if you want to work hard for your grade

Uh, great teacher and all, really, but an eighteen page paper? I'm an undergraduate, not a grad student. That's too much work for someone who is a full time student with a part time job. Be a little more consider, Dr. Dudley.

Great teacher with loads of funny stories and energy. Not an easy class by any means but Dr. Dudley works hard to help you and makes it seem fun. The book is horrible but Dr. D. helps you out with it. Bottom line: go to class and stay on top of the papers and you'll come out of the class with a firm grasp on writting skills and stories to tell.

Dr dudley is incredibly hardcore when it comes to the education. miss more than 3 classes and he will flunk you! nice man (best lectures i've ever sat through) but if you want easy, don't take him!

Best teacher at ECU! Very helpful, will do anything to help you as long as you talk to him. Couple of short essays, one big paper (12-15 pages, a midterm, and final. Loved the Hamilton vs Jefferson debate, it was a lot of fun. Would have loved to have had him for all my history classes.

dudley is one of my favs. his classes are straightforward and even interesting. he's also really great too. if you know how to write you're fine. if you don't, that's your own fault. he'll teach you how to write proper papers.

I took Dr. D for every History class I had at ECU. This man is incredible. Although he is tough you will walk away from one of his classes a better person. I wish there were more professors like him at ECU.

Dr. Dudley has very high expectations for his students. His first test was very difficult for me because I did not know what was the most important thing to study. He really likes it if you know dates so you can explain the chronology of events in North Carolina History. His tests are all identification and essay. He is very intelligent.

Dr. Dudley is great guy. He's very nice and helpful. He keeps the class fun and intersting but take good notes and do the reading. He's tough on grading papers but he's up front about it so you know what you're getting into from the start. Exams are essay and ID format. Pay attention and do the work and you'll be fine.

The class is very demanding and dr. dudley is very tough on your papers. But, he helps you out so much and all he wants to see is improvement, along with knowledge gained. Expect to work for the grade. Classes are enjoyable b/c dr. D is the man!

This class is amazing and Dudley is awesome. Historical theory is interesting and the remaining time in the class is spent on independent work - if you want to get an A, you've got it. If you don't try, you fail. If you don't follow directions, you get FTFD.

He is an excellent teacher, I have him for two classes next semester and I can't wait, he is so funny.

One of the best Profs I've ever had, & I'm not a Hist major. First day of class he said "If you leave this class with only an understanding of NC History then I have failed as a teacher." He's tough but it's worth it. Nice guy, helpful, and teaches life lessons as well. You will leave his class a better person than when you entered.

Dr. D is awesome! read your book and pay attention and you'll do fine! he gives lots of hints in class and he does take attendance so be there or fail. I loved him and all his corny jokes and crazy stories. He picks on you if you come in late and if you say something stupid in class, but it's all in fun!

Dr. Dudley is a great teacher. He grades his papers hard, but he tells you everything you need to know to make a good grade. PROOFREAD YOU PAPERS SLOWLY AND ALOUD and you will make decent grades.

The guy gave me a zero on my first paper. He gave me a d on my final paper. He also worked with me to help me improve. I never had to work so hard for a "C" in a course but when I looked at my grade I felt like I earned my first grade at E.C.U. I clashed with the guy's personality but he is fair. I really can not say anything bad about the guy.

Professor Dudley is an awesome guy. He keeps class funny. His work is difficult, but as he puts it "I have grandchildren and I dont want idiots teaching them". I loved this class, and it made me work more than I ever have. I feel like I accomplished something.

I don't like the course, he knows the material, but requires you to read two books, write a review on each, you read the whole textbook. Tests are essays and identifications. I don't like history at all, but he makes it entertaining, I never felt like I did not want to go to his class. He is a good professor, but does require a lot of work.

NC hist. Very tough grader, overly strict on paper requirements. Willing to talk At you but not With you. Intimidating, unfriendly demeanor. I love NC hist but I felt anxious being in his class. Makes you feel stupid. Link textbook is easy to read and interesting. Take the class with Oakley not Dr D. Am an "A" student but made "Cs" in this class!

Dr. D is the hardest professor i've had thus far, but he has been the most fun. His exams are very difficult, and attendance is absolutely mandatory. You will learn a lot because he is very knowledged in the field. I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in history & is willing to work hard.

Great professor. He begged me to become a major. While he was unsuccessful at that, he still teaches exceptionally well. I would gladly take him again. Beware of his research paper. It can get hard so start early.

Dr. Dudley is the greatest! There is an article review, book review, and a 15-18 page research paper (start early!). Its a lot of work, but the class is so enjoyable and interesting that it is worth it. I have learned more in this class than I have in any other. If you really want to learn to write, Dr. D can teach you!

Dudley is an okay prof. He made mistakes in college, and had people destroy his writing, so he is determined to make you share the experience. He will belittle certain students unnecessarily in class, and it can be even worse if you go to his office. Intelligent man, but not considerate of you as a student.

You will learn a lot, but you will be very overwhelmed and stressed at times.After a while you get used to it, though. Make sure to put forth a solid effort! He is also always willing to help when ever needed. Great professor. GOOD LUCK!!!

Dr. Dudley is by far one of the hardest professors I've had during my four years at ECU. There were three book reviews along with reading the class book. However, he is probably one of the best professors I've had so far. Explains everything in detail and the tests are EXACTLY what he gives you on the SG. Learned a lot from him. RECOMMEND!

Dr. Dudley is the best professor at ECU. I have taken him for several history classes and I love him. He does not play around and expects you to attend class but if you read the assigned readings and attend class you should do fine.

Never had Dudley until this semester. For some reason I heard bad things about him but he turned out to be on of the funniest and kindest history professors I've had yet. Do the reading, notes on lecture, and at least listen to discussion. Exams were pretty easy as long as the reading and notes were there. Two writing assignments weren't long.

His exams are 2 essay questions, which he gives to you the class before. You must be able to cite the book in your answers. Dudley is great. He is always more than happy to help and answers e-mails promptly. He grades papers for Introduction to History with two grades. One for content and the other for how well you follow the format of the paper. If you don't follow the format exactly you receive an F on that part of the paper, which is tedious but I would recommend him

This man is amazing. I am a history teacher, and listening to Dr. D lecture makes it clear why I got into the profession. I took him several times, and the last time it was for a 3 hour night class, and it was the fastest 3 hours of my week. He has a way of teaching history as an amazing story, and he will make you a better writer and learner.

His lecture are pretty interesting and he teaches beyond the material making connections in other areas which is cool and helps you learn more. He cares about students and will work with you If you try. Attendance is mandatory. 2 exams, a final, and two book review so cant really afford to bomb one. Tough but fair grader. Curves occasionally.

Dudley's class was a wild ride for me. Your grade comes from two 5-page papers, two exams, & the final. DO NOT take this course if you aren't good at memorization. He grades on his own curve, grading much higher if you've improved from paper 1 to paper 2 and same with the tests. He is very friendly & funny & wants to give you an A - work hard!

Dr. D is a really great history professor and is really passionate about what he is teaching. Reading the textbook is absolutely crucial to your success in this class. You are graded by two test (must answer a single essay question), two papers, and the final exam so it is very important that you do your best on all the assignments.

Dr. Dudley is an amazing professor. He truly cares about you and has a major passion for historical writing. The grades are done in the form of 5-6 papers with a large portion of your grade coming from a 12-15 page research paper due on the last day of class. You will seriously learn how to write in this class. Major jokester and makes class fun.

Dr. D is great! Teaches history in a way that keeps you interested through the entire semester. You are graded on two tests (essay format) and three essays based on books you are assigned to read. Answers e-mails very quickly and will give honest feedback about your writing and performance in class, GREAT professor and funny guy too - TAKE HIM!
