Great in lecture. He gets so excited and starts talking really loudly, but it keeps your attention. His tests are not simple. You have to have a good understanding of the material. Study his study guides and you'll do fine on the tests.

Wait, I got him mixed up with Dr. Katz, they share this course. Dr. Katz is the one that gets excited and talks loudly. Dr. Nichols is funny and very good at relating biology terms to college students. He compares molecular biology to keg parties and makes fun of himself being overweight a lot.

Dr. Nichols has ended up being one of my favorite professors at this school. He is good at relating the material to students and extremely easy to talk to. Very blunt about how he feels about things, which usually ends up being pretty comical. He has a good sense of humor, which is hard to come by in the science departments.

Wade is really the best teacher I have come across in the Bio dept. Very easy and willing to talk to you whenever you have questions. Really tries to make lectures interesting and help you apply what you learn to real life. Has a great sense of humor and tries to portray that in his lectures. Absolutely take anything you can with Wade!

This class is really easy if you've taken lots of bio in high school. this year he posted all of notes, audio recordings of his lectures, and powerpoint slides online. i never really went to class, but I got As because of this. Plus, he's really nice and funny and has great analogies.

Wade teache the 1st half of the semester, Dr.Katz took over the other half.It is sooo much easier with Dr.Katz. He dont use powerpoints but he gives u the notes and explains it sooo well.TAKE Dr. Kats! Wade uses powerpoints...but he teaches from the pictures. I feel its irrelevant to teach from pictures if there arent pics on the test!

He is a wonderful professor!! he was always so nice and willing to help all he could during office hours! He is very fair in grading and I would take this course again if I could!!

wonderful professor who made me actually ENJOY biology. no interest in science, but his lectures were entertaining and very relevant to the tests. you could do well with his powerpoints and lectures online. there are study sessions (great, but come prepared with questions). reading the book isn't necessary. study in advance!

This guy is funny and comes up with cute little stories for how to remember the information and it really helped me. He gives the notes typed out and you can get them online so you dont need to go to class but it really helps to be there to understand the information.

I really really liked Wade. He played music videos before each lecture. He also explained things very well and had a nice mix of power points and overheads. He also offers study sessions that are very useful. I got As on his tests with some studying.

Wade was a GREAT professor!! I recommend him to ANYONE that has to take a biology course. He was extremely helpful and the final exam was optional and replaced your lowest exam score. I loved the class and Wade made it awesome.

BSC 197 was VERY hard for me. I had tutoring and everything and only managed to get a D. My poor grade was not because of Wade, he was a good teacher, I just couldn't grasp the information well. It may be because I'm not a "science" person.

The class was pretty easy if you study. He puts the powerpoints AND audio of the lectures online. He also holds study sessions before the test which is really nice. He will bump your grade up if you are right at the edge and he likes you--get to know him!

Dr. Nichols was the best teacher not from my major I've had at ISU. He is funny, explains things in a way that is easy to understand, and goes the extra mile to make sure his students learn the material. You can tell he is actually interested in what he teaches. Definitely recommend taking a course by him if you can!

I believe I got a B in this class. He's a pretty good teacher and is funny at times. For a summer course, it was alot to take in, though, as I suck at memorization. Asks really specific questions on his multi-choice exams. Records/posts all lectures online. Lots of extra credit HW. The lab will help your grade, too. Try hard and you'll do good

Fantastic teacher who thoroughly knows what he is talking about. The summer class is vey fast paced and takes place over four weeks, so be prepared to sit through hours of lecture.

I took his class, and the class average is a 40%. He is very helpful, but the only problem is that the tests are very different from the review guides.

Wade is hands down my favorite professor at ISU. He cares about what he teaches and the students. The class is based off the lecture exams and lab. The exams are extremely difficult, definitely not able to cram one night for them.. You have to focus on the important components and make sure you can make connections between each idea and concept.

Absolutely hilarious. Tests are essay format, but if you attend class or listen to his lectures he's pretty straight forward with what he expects as an answer. Assigned extra credit quizzes (a few points). Will answer any questions and enjoys feedback.

Wade is awesome. He's hilarious and knows his stuff. Took this class my first semester at ISU. He's a great teacher, really funny, and is super helpful! You have 5 tests total and the lowest one is dropped, so if you're happy with your grade, you don't have to take the final. He gives weekly extra credit points, plus gives extra credit on the exams! Good class, highly recommend.

BSC197 is a class designed for Biology majors. While some people seemed to struggle, I found this course to be fairly easy. Wade is very clear, but sometimes will get into very specific detail in the lectures which may not at all be helpful for what is being tested for on an exam. This year (Fall 2015) an A was an 85% or higher.

I took BSC 197 my first semester here at ISU and it was a very challenging class for me since I don't tend to do well on exams. But after I bombed the first two exams I reached out to Professor Nichols and he was awesome with helping me get my grade back up! He'll do everything he can to help you understand the material.

He's one of the best professors I've had. He wants to see EVERYONE pass because he knows how hard the course can be, but he won't force or drag you to come to him when you need clarity/help and if you have a job that's taking a lot of your time he's very understanding of that too! He's someone you should definitely just talk to if there a problem.

Funny guy and often times will ramble off into stories. That helps lighten the mood a little if the lecture is not exactly fun that day. Goes into good detail during lecture and is available during office hours for help. Grades exams fast and drops lowest exam. Great guy.

Dr. Nichols was the best professor I've had at ISU thus far. His lectures are engaging which makes the difficult material easier to learn. Studying for the exams is essential, especially for exam 2. I didn't buy the book at all, but attended all the lectures and passed with an 99 so basically don't waste money on the book!

Nichols is a great professor. He uses real world analogies that make the material easier to understand, and the fact that I didn't have to but a textbook or a lab manual for class saved me a lot of money. He basically gives you everything you need to pass: powerpoints, study guides, lecture outlines, extra credit, & even recordings of the lectures.

Nicholas' lecture outlines, powerpoint and audio lectures are all online, so going to class is not mandatory if you want to do it on your own time. He uses examples and analogies that are very useful in explaining the material. His lectures were interesting and he liked to keep others interested by cracking a joke or two. Best professor thus far.

Dr. Wade is the best. Lectures are not required to attend but go to them because one you will alway have a good laugh, second so you do not have to cram before every exam. He does offer a lot of extra credit but drops the lowest of your 5 exams. Fun and easy class if you are diligent in going to class and studying.

Grade is from 5 tests (lowest dropped) and lab. He gives a ton of extra credit but his tests are very difficult. Lecture is recorded and he provides the recordings and notes online so going to lecture isn't required at all.

Wade was a great professor. He is very humorous & makes boring lectures somewhat entertaining. He is very generous in the fact that he knows the majority in his class are not bio majors and he accommodates to that with extra credit, recorded lectures, lecture outlines, and power points. You almost don't need to go to class, but it obviously helps.

Great Professor. Makes complex concepts much simpler with nice analogies. Always looked forward to class. There's so much extra credit there's no reason not to do it.

GREAT PROFESSOR. Super accessible outside of class and wants his students to succeed. Make sure to buy Mastering Biology even though he says it is optional, about 20 pts of EC comes from. Tests are based on lectures so pay attention. Posts everything online so not mandatory. Labs are stupid but easy. Lab quizzes are difficult but doable.

BSC 170 is a non-majors class. He knows that. At the beginning of the semester I was so worried it would still be tough but I was sure wrong. Wade is a GEM. Posts power points/outlines of material online, audio lectures, optional extra credit quizzes every week (do them) and he was very generous with the amount of online exams he gave us. I REC!!!

He was a great teacher. He found numerous ways to make the material interesting by telling jokes and giving great memory cues for difficult material. The class is very based upon 5 exams, but he does offer a lot of extra credit. I would recommend doing all of it.

Wade is the best teacher I've had at ISU in four years. This is my second class with him, and I wish I would've taken him for BSC197. He makes the material very interesting to learn, and is the funniest teacher I've had by far. It came to the point that his was the only class I was actually excited to go to during my last semester here at ISU.

Wade is the man. He's hilarious and gives an interesting lecture making things very clear. The lecture notes and audio of the lecture are always posted online so lectures are optional but you'll regret not going because he's so funny. Some online tests. Online homework. Lots of extra credit. Wade wants you to learn and do well in the class.

Funny guy who makes it very easy to come to and pay attention to class. Even if you are not a science major, he will make you interested in topics that would otherwise be boring. Puts all his lectures online, and gives you all the tools you need and more to get a good grade.

Attendance in this course wasn't mandatory but I definitely think that if I had went to lecture I would have done better in the class. Wade's a great guy and willing to be reasonable but wants to see that you are putting in the effort for the grade that you get. He even takes the time to normalize lab grades with different TAs. He is a real gem. He cares about us, he wanted us to pass his class. He's just something else. I really like him. He also is, eye candy. He may wear the same outfit all the time, but he has a reason behind it.

Class isn't mandatory (he puts all his audio lectures and power points online) but he pretty much has a photographic memory so he WILL remember how often you were in class. His tests are straight to the point & aren't made to confuse you. I struggle with BIO but I went to almost every class and ended with over 100%. Purchasing Connect is necessary.

He's honestly the best. he is so straight forward about what is going to be on the exams. The Connect assignments are pretty easy points. He offers a lot of extra credit too. I had an A throughout the semester, didn't do any of the EC, I bombed the final that I didn't study for and ended with an 88% but he bumped me to an A bc he's a stand up guy.

I loved Wade! He is by far my favorite professor! He cares about his students and only puts material from lecture on exams so go to class. He also does kahoots in the beginning of class which gives practice. The labs are a lot of work, but interesting. I highly suggest his courses.

Wade is an enjoyable professor and is highly educated on the subject. Sometimes though, the tests are difficult (class average 57%), and he can get aggravated at times. Other than that, almost everyone loves him.

Wade is standup guy. It was a privilege to take his class. He posts all of his audio recordings/slides on ReggieNet and gives announcements in emails about upcoming things. Hes super available and willing to chat about anything. He also offers a lot of EC and be sure to take adv b/c it helps reinforce course material. Hilarious guy/great lecturer.

I really really enjoyed taking Wade. He is a very caring guy and very funny. This class is not an easy A but if you go to lectures and make sure to do the homework you should do fine. He is without a doubt one of the favorite teachers I have ever had.

Wade is better than the average professor in his respective field as far as giving lectures and is knowledgeable on his subject. You need to study somewhat, especially for the third test and for the final. Do the extra credit even if you think you wont need it because the spike of difficulty between test 2 to 3 are equivalent from HS to college

His lectures werent exactly inspiring however it was an insanely huge lecture hall in which it would be very hard regardless to connect to every student and get every single point across. Overall a fair teacher and as long as you do your own part you will do fine in the class. I slacked off a little more than I should have.

There are weekly extra credit quizzes and connect assignments so do those! They help boost your grade a lot. There are 4 exams which are all multiple choice. The material is fairly easy but you'll still have to study a little bit. If you're having trouble he is extremely approachable & caring to his students. He genuinely wants everyone to do well.

I had Wade as my professor a few times at ISU and he's the absolute best professor I've ever had. He'll make difficult topics extremely interesting to listen to and easy to understand, and he'll always try to help you do well in the class. I'm in Med school now and I'm rolling through the beginning courses because of how well Wade taught.

I know a lot of students are not a fan of Dr. Wade and his online teaching, but I think he genuinely cares if his student succeed. He gives you a good amount of extra credit, his lectures are clear, the test is the study guide, and he's just straight up. He treats you like an adult as long as you act like it. He really is an amazing professor.

He actually seems like a nice guy, he was very understanding and helped me out when there was a screw-up with my grades. I just think zoom university got the better of him--if we had in-person classes right now, I'm sure this class would be a lot easier and likable.

A lot of the recent comments are making him seem like the devil but he really isn't that bad. I think this class would be more interesting in-person but we shouldn't blame him for us not liking online classes. He curves the grade at the end of the semester and this class IS for bio majors. Just manage your time well and you'll be fine. :)

I had Wade for BSC 170 (in person) and BSC 197 (online) and I thought he was a great teacher. A lot of these recent bad reviews come from people who only knew him online, which is understandable but not the full picture. BSC 197 online was a challenge, but Wade is a super nice guy who teaches amazingly in person.

One of the best professors the school has to offer. He wants to help his students so dont be afraid to go to office hours. Although you probably wont need to because his lectures are amazing and prepare you perfectly for the exams.

Wade is a really funny, caring, and smart professor. For an introductory Bio, I would not have wanted anyone else. Study for the exams, do EC quizzes weekly and review lecture slides, and you are guaranteed an A.

Wade has a very organized class and goes about his lessons efficiently and fairly. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities and the homework is very manageable. He offers an interesting lecture and is a very fair grader. Anyone who wants an A in this class can have one.

Makes lectures very fun and easy to understand. The only reason you need the book is because you need the launchpad code for the homework. Homework is for participation and there's extra credit every week. If you just memorize the info on the PowerPoints you should get at least an 80 on all the exams. The lab is the hardest part of this class.

Wade makes the lectures very easy to digest and has good dry humor. As long as you come to class and pay attention (you don't necessarily even need to take notes), you should be fine as he pulls test questions directly from the powerpoints. He was one of my favorite science profs here!

All exams are multiple-choice, super simple class if you are attentive in the lecture. Take this class!

Wade was a fantastic professor who genuinely cared about his students. Attendance is not mandatory, but the questions on the tests come directly from class, you have to buy the book to do the homework which is worth 10% of your grade. When taking the tests (all multiple choice) I had already seen about 75% of the questions.

Wade Nichols is a top tier professor. He teaches first years you need to work hard to get a good grade in college while still being reasonable. The only reason I didn't get an A in BSC 197 was because I was lazy sometimes. Wade is great at explaining detailed Biology concepts while getting directly to the point. Tests are also reasonable.

Clearly states what will be on the exam. As long as you show up, take notes, and study, the class is easy to pass for a biology class. He makes complex topics understandable, and gives plenty of extra credit, even dropping one exam. He's always available for questions, and gives opportunities for every student to pass.

Professor was great and helpful but the course is tough. He does online zoom Q&As where you can ask questions and he responds fast to emails.

Dr Nichols singlehandedly saved my interest in biology after I had a disastrous prof for BSC 196. He cuts to the chase and has amazing lectures with great examples to make weird concepts digestible and memorable. Definitely study out of class and go to lecture (he even records lectures on Canvas). He gives EC quizzes that may reappear on tests!

Dr. Nichols is a really good professor and makes biology interesting. He cares about his students and records his lessons. I also appreciated that he had lecture outlines that saved a lot of time on taking notes. Of course study, it's science. But if you can do that you should do good. Definitely take him.

I would highly recommend Wade's class. I took him last year and he was very helpful. Only problem was that exams were a lot of your grade, but he's very helpful on exam preparation. His lectures were both insightful and funny. Take his class if you have the option.

wade is a great professor, especially if you're a freshman. he understood that we (most of us) are fresh out of high school and haven't adjusted to college life completely. there was an extra credit quiz opportunity posted on canvas every week. exams were the majority of your grade, but the lowest score was dropped. overall great class!

Wade is a great professor. Gets straight to the point and doesn't ask any outlandish questions on his exams. He tests on what he teaches, so going to lecture or at least listening to them online is key to doing well. EC quizzes help your grade a lot and are similar to test questions. Lab was the worst part, but still not even bad. Take197 with him!

Lectures were absolutely FASCINATING and I looked forward to every class. Concepts could be tough to understand but Wade did an excellent job of explaining and there's plenty of study material to help without being overwhelming. Full lab reports were due every week which got to be pretty stressful, and lab exams were unnecessarily difficult.

I'd say the class itself is very hard, but this professor tosses you a lot of bones by giving opportunities for extra credit. He also does not elaborate on vocabulary. Good guy though.

He's a great professor. He really cares about what you want to learn so much so that the students get to pick what is learned in unit 4. When the class average dropped for a test he allowed a composite retake so you could get your grade up. About the tests: study, study, study.

Dr. Wade is awesome! There is a lot of scientific jargon and genetic processes to understand but he does a great job simplifying it for non-science majors. Offers plenty of extra credit. Can repeat quizzes up to three times. I highly recommend taking his class!

Wade is a good professor and tries his best to make this intro to bio a true intro. All tests are multiple-choice, but the 2 lab exams of the year are short-response. The lab was interesting, but 4 lab reports were expected at the beginning. Schedule ur lab for the end of the week so you can do it on weekdays (it's expected to be 6 ish pages long)

I just completed BSC 197 with Wade. This class requires a lot of time and effort but, if you put in the work you will do fine! Exams are straight forward, give yourself time to learn the content fully. Very lecture heavy and extra credit and homework are grade buffers. Ultimately, Wade is great, very understanding and accommodating!

There's lots of material to learn but he makes it so easy to get a good grade if you put in the time. Do the weekly extra credit quizzes. Each quiz gives 1 point that's weighted as a test point; it makes a big difference. Plus the questions are often on the exams. He's funny and I love his wacky stories about himself (they're all lies lol).

Great lecturer, gave weekly extra credit, held weekly reviews, tests were super fair, and gave study guides for all but the final (which is comprehensive but not hard at all). Very knowledgeable and def had that eccentric scientist vibe. Material wasn't easy but he made it very easy to succeed and an A is very achievable with effort. Funny guy.

AP Bio background helps. I didn't have any, but I finished with over a 100%. Lectures felt extremely sped through, but you just have to sit down and learn the material. Exams are all multiple choice, and if you UNDERSTAND the material you will likely get above a 90% each time. Wade is funny and is approachable even though he doesn't seem that way.

Overall, Wade was a straightforward professor. The exams focused on material covered in lecture, and since the lectures were recorded and notes were posted, it made studying much easier. The lab was enjoyable and fairly simple. As long as you put in the effort to study for the exams, you should do well in the class.

He was a good professor. Just do your all of your homework. Make yourself known by meeting w him outside of class and going to study sessions.. especially if you're struggling.

Very funny. He comes up with silly stories to help you remember things in class. Kind of dad-adjacent. He is always there for office hours and has weekly meetings for any questions. As long as you put in at least a little effort, you will do well.

This class is hard but that how college biology is. He gives many resources in which helps you do well such as audio lectures, slides, text book, and lecture outlines, you just have to put in the work in studying, lab reports/worksheets and homework. He has weekly reveiw sessions in person or zoom to answer questions about the material.

This is an incredible professor, he's a very jolly guy as long as you don't think the earth is flat:) Science is difficult but Wade appreciates a student that works hard. Do not send him unprofessional emails or try to use AI in his classes. Integrity is VERY important to him!!

was an amazing professer who knew what he was talking about and nice guy. Bio is an hard course so of course dont expect it to be easy but if you just study like 4 days before the exam and do all the easy Homework and extra credit work, you will pass.

Wade taught my first and last biology class at ISU (197/361). I'm in my first year of med school now, and I'm EXCELLING in the immune system and microbio because of taking his classes. BSC 361 was my favorite undergrad course, and taking it my last semester at ISU made it even more memorable! It was truly a privilege to have him as a professor!

Overall a good class. All exam material is covered in lectures Mr. Nichols makes engaging and gets posted on Canvas. The only homework is from LAB sections there's 5 lab reports and 5 homework assignments. The rest of the course is studying the textbook and lecture notes. If you study a lot from those you should excel with an A or B.

Wade makes it really easy for engaged students to pass with a B or an A. Just apply effort and study the study guides he gives and you will do well in his class. Also go to every lab and participate.

Wade is a good professor. He respects you much more when attending lectures especially after exams. However, for the course, it is quite difficult because it goes way in depth in the material. There is textbook, but it's on the website with the homework, and some stuff doesn't always match up. If needed, do get a tutor for this class.

He's a very good professor, and obviously very intelligent, and explains concepts very clearly for people in their first bio class outside of high school. He's not someone I'd want to hang out with outside of class, but I'll give him credit, he's a good communicator and never saw him be unfair to students.

This is the hardest course I've taken outside of my major. You actually have to lock in for this one but he makes all the information/lectures available online so self studying works. If you only memorize definitions you should get a B-B+ in the course. Theres a lot of extra credit so do them otherwise you might regret it since theres no curve.

I loved Wade. He made boring concepts fun. I recommend starting to study a week in advance for tests. The 4th unit was easier because it was mostly definitions. He gives out a lot of extra credit and the homework is easy. If you don't show up, you might miss his hilarious remarks. Awesome teacher, awesome guy, and interesting class.

His class is VERY lecture heavy but he records them and post them. He is very straight up so if you email him begging for points he's most likely gonna say that your effort is reflected by your grade so listen to his lectures. He does offer an extra credit quiz every week and if u do them all and average a C on tests you can finish with a B
