he is funny
he is a good man but with language barrier
all you need is the guidebook. memorize the multiple choice in the back of guidebook and youre set for the semester. when listening in lectures, listen carefully his english isnt that great.
The class was enjoyable and I learned a great deal from Dr. Liu.
His lectures are different from the test. Just remember to buy the study guide and memorize the answers. A good man though but we had a project and presentation on his class.

Liu has a great sense of humor. He can be clear in explaining math, but sometimes he isn't. He's cool, but wouldn't say he's the best math teacher there is @ PCC (in teaching). The best thing a/ Liu is that he does his best to help u pass the class.
If you take good notes,you will learn a lot from him.
One of the best teachers around, though he does look like he was punched in the face. People who don't pass Professor Liu's class must be really stupid because he makes it so easy and he's willing to help you out. Take him.
That knucklehead who rated Dr. Liu negatively on 9/25 probably didn't study and is a bad student anyways. Overall, Liu's class is kick back yet you still learn a lot of practical stuff. Prepared me well for other examinations(DAT)!
I took Dr. Liu's Physics 10 class. I have always been bad in science, but he made it seem so simple! Just go to class and do the assignments. It was a good course that got me interested in science.

Mr. Liu is the greatest math teacher ever. He will definitely try to help you pass the class. He also gives the same questions from the homework , on the test, so it's not hard at all. Plus, he's funny and jokes around with the students. :)
He is OK. But I hate his grading style. He grades tests by curve...which means you can get a B or C even you only missed 1 or 2 questions in the test. And you have to compete with some of the students who already had the test paper.

He is a nice and easy teacher. U never need to worry about ur grade bec you can ask him for help. If u think u cant pass his course. He also gives us some homework and you will see some questions from homework. BTW, I also took his math. Same with Phy10.

I totally agree with the below comments. U will learn absoutly nothing at all, just memorize the answers and u will get good grades. It is a waste of money going to his class.
He's very helpful if you do need his help. One time I went to his office hours and he was very polite and helped me out with a difficult question.

Dr. Liu is a great man. We need more people in this world like him. The only thing is that he cannot really explain in detail certain subjects. If you keep asking him questions he will always help you though. He's funny too

As an engineer,Dr Liu is capable of makin more money workin in the industry as oppose to teachin.But he teaches because he has a passion to pass on his knowledge/experience and is more than willing to help his students succeed.This is his "retirement

His class is easy.....to cheat, thats what it meant. Everyone cheat, and he let u cheat. Although the tests are easy, the grading curve makes it hard for those honest students. You can only miss 2 out of 50 to get an A. He is all for business, so u business cheaters shall take him and cheat.

Rather than blaming the professor, we should reflect on ourselves. Dr. Liu is the senior scientist in JPL, and what he expects from students is not to have them become Einstein but to learn to "be a person". Put it the Chinese way, learn to "zuo ren"

Very nice, smart and funny man. He truly cares about his students. He knows what he is talking about since he was an engineer. It's not only the physics that you will take from the class, but the life lessons too. Make sure you do the homework & read. Understanding homework equals better grades.

Dr.Liu is the best teacher i have ever had at PCC. He knows how to teach the class. he really cares about his studnents. if you don't understand, just ask him, he is very patient. take him and you will not regret.i will take his 31B class in the next fall.

Hey Wai Min! Looking at my comment? :) He clearly tells you what he expects on tests. Very easy going person. Also a little Funny. 2 exams 40%, lab 20%, hw 10% and the final 30%. As long as you know how to study on your own, you should be fine in his class. Not the best teacher, but obviously not the hardest either.
He is very friendly and willing to help students without bias. Grade earned fully depends on the effort. I will take his next class when the schedule works for me.

If you need to take a calculus based physics class Wai Min is your best choice. Tests come from the homework. There is no excuse for not doing well in class, you've seen the problem before. I took it over the summer and it was time consuming but in the end an A on a transcript always looks good. Do you speak Wai Minease???
Dr. Liu makes Physics looks simpler than what I expected before. His tests are very easy if u do, study & memorize ur homework very well (Hint: Homework is ur best friend ;D). He loves to tell some interesting stories in class, either the stories related to Physics or the stories of his personal life. He's funny as well.
This guy doesn't know how to teach. He will simply give you the equations in the book and he will not say explain anything about them. Then he will give you some examples and use his "complicated" method to solve them. If you really want to learn about Physics, stay away from him. I spent a whole semester and didn't learn anything in that class....
The material is brutal, but Dr. Liu finds a way to make it interesting. It's not an easy subject, but Dr. Liu finds a way to make it entertaining. There is a lot of work, but if you do it, and put in the time, your grade will reflect your effort. A good prof. if you work hard.

I think the guy below meant to give Prof Liu a 5-4-4 rating..I just wish that he would give us the examples ahead of time (like 3-4 weeks before the test) so that we can study ahead of time and not rush it till a week before the test. Cause some of us are taking a lot of hard classes. It's really hard to get them all down in less than 2 weeks.
Dr. Liu is one of the best professors that I've ever met at PCC. He knows his subject well. He is also very understanding and caring. I enjoyed learning from him.
All tests come from HW exactly, don't change the numbers in the problems. So There's no way you can't do well in the class if you do your HW. He gave HW after finishing the chapter. So What're you waiting for exactly? He's very nice teacher. He's not primary English speaker. so you'll find some other ways when he talks to you. But he didn't mean it

He speaks poor English. His tests' questions are all from M/C study guide. Just memorize everything. He thinks he is humorous, but acutally not. He spends half class to tell you some stupid jokes and his personal life, and only about 15 minutes to give lecture.(lazy teacher).
Dude, trust me Dr Liu telling jokes is a good thing. You don't want him to bombard you with all Physic in his lecture. Trust me you'll die. He tries to make the class a lot easier, by telling us some of the questions that he likes (which is very helpful). But yea, it's a pretty hard class and it's really hard to understand his accent.
Funny, Witty, Chinese Grandpa-like Guy. Interesting/Inspirational life stories. Takes a lot of effort to earn an A so STUDY HARD! Exams are straight forward. Very Considerate. Best of all, I Learned how to STUDY on my own. Many Thanks Dr. Liu!!
Dr. Liu is a very educated professor. even though u might think his test should be easy since it's from HW, but they are not cause it's impossible to memorize all the HW and u need to understand and study the problems in order to do well on the exam. at it's not only HM problems it's also examples also differnt #'s, so defanatly not easy!!!

This guy is awesome. Twice I thought i would get "B", but he gave me "A" instead. Thx Prof Liu, you're awesome.
If you want to get an A and make your GPA look all nice, take this class, because no matter how badly you suck at physics and math, you can still get an A by studying the examples for the test. But if you really want to learn physics and be able to solve problems on you own (without memorizing), take another teacher. that's about it.
LMFAO...A previous rater said "VER EASY CLASS + CUTE TEACHER." Ok very ez class might be true for Physics 10 or 2... but not for 31, a class where students are either very good at memorizing problems that they do not understand or just plain cheat (no cheating skills required; he does a lousy job of catching cheaters). He's 63 and not cute at all
2A and 2B are general physics. u'll remember stuff out of this class by memorizing how to solve certain problems using certain formulas. He'll give u simple lectures and help you solve these problems using formulas. HE REALLY CARES for his STUDENTS<- that's what makes him the best physics teacher ever. He'll NOT harrass you like all the other ones

He is a nice, considerate older professor. However, the subject is extremely HARD! Yes, he has an accent but you get used to it. There is no way to teach this material in a way that is easy to understand for the average lazy student (like me). You MUST STUDY VERY HARD to understand the material. Read the text & make use of the available tutors!
I disagree w/most comments here. Study the chapter BEFORE he teaches it then you'll get what he teaches. Easy material, MAKE SURE TO DO THE HOMEWORK. READ THE BOOK. Easy A class IF you can study on your own and are willing to put the time and effort into reading and understand the concepts. Took the class during summer, at least 1/3 of the class got A's.
Stares at the board and mumbles. Accent isnt as bad as people make it be. If taken in high school or elsewhere you should be fine. If not, then beware. Lets just say I didnt take the 2nd semester with any other prof because I would fail miserably due to my lack of knowledge from the preceding semester. Chinese>he will love you. if not>he might.

I highly recomend people who aren't good in physic to not take this class.Doesnt teach that well so you've to do a lot of studying ON YOUR OWN.His grading his fair.Do all the hw/lab and you should pass even if you fail the tests.Labs are quick n easy since he guide you thru it. My first time taking physics, and I was completely lost. His lectures were so unclear, you definitely need to learn everything on your own. I wasn't prepared to teach myself, so I dropped.

Whoever said Dr.Liu is lazy, not helpful, truly did not ask him for help or did not attend lectures. Dr.Liu is a wonderful professor! He does everything to help his students succeed in class. He not only teaches physics but also teach you about life. Truly a genuine professor that cares deeply for his students. Plus his jokes are funny!

The multiple choice test is extremely easy,straight forward from the study guide, and the calculation part is also very similar to the study guide. Overall,easy class,don't need to put in much effort,but you learn nothing. The good news is he always tries to help students to pass the the class.

Only take this class if you had AP physics in HS. Dr. Liu is useless as far as understanding physics is concerned. Have to know all examples and HW problems by heart. I got an A from his Phy10 classes with knowing nothing about physics. it is an easy class for someone who want an A for their GE requirement. all of my friends who took the class with me end up with an A.

Phys 31A is very difficult during summer. He grades hard as well. i got a C. Take during spring or fall not summer.
This is a stupid and discriminated professor. I love his Chinese student because he can spell their name but discriminate over the rest of Latino and other Asian students. He is super easy. Take him, learn nothing and your GPA has a little bump. Otherwise, do not never talk to him because he will speak Chinese back to you !!!!

Great professor who was the primary catalyst to the success I have achieved in my career. Challenging yet helpful and friendly, making everything interesting and driving his students to want to gain more and more knowledge.
Worst Prof. in PCC. doesn't know how to teach. pointless lectures, better off study urself and memorize problems for exams. Exam structure changed. You can't just memorize the homework and do well on the exam anymore. He can't teach and his exams are extremely hard now, what makes you want to take him?

Dr. Liu is the best! Read the chapter before u come to class & it makes the lecture much clearer. He really wants you to learn & study on your own, which is what you need to learn to do if you're a science major. He wants his students to succeed, so work hard and you'll get the grade you deserve! Ok, so I took his online course with the intention to get an A (as always), but found the class to be extremely difficult. For some reason, the tests were on a completely different level from his lecture. He would expect us to just do well by knowing certain problems he assigns, but it didnt turn out that way afterall. Took only his class that sem.
He doesnt know how to teach, I learn nothing about physic, and i still get an A. tests are from problems that he gave out, about 25 questions. overall, if you want an A without understanding physic, take him. by the way, he is so much better then the 1A series professors.

His class is easy as long as you review the study guide. All questions are selected randomly from it. His lecture is clear, but his heavy accent may bother you. Randomly check attendance and would deduct points for it. Memorize the study guide because he will redistribute the points for each mistake if there are so many perfect scores.

It's not like you have a choice if you need 31A & B for your major. Wai Min maintains a very relaxed and convivial atmosphere, but you will learn ZERO from his lectures. He assigns the more difficult problems for hw, but the tests usually come straight from assignments and examples. That's the trick--master the hw and the test is a piece of cake.
Honestly, This class is Okay. You can get A easily by Memorizing. But, Memorizing physics problems Ridiculous. You gotta learn everything yourself. I hated this class but Professor is sweet old guy. I feel like he like to only support Chinese students. I saw he is giving lot of unnecessary points to a Chinese student. but when I ask he said no.
I was intimidated by Physics upon starting this course, as I had returned to college after many years away. I received As in both 31A and 31B thanks to Dr. Liu's encouragement. He is an intelligent man and a great teacher who genuinely cares about his students. Go to class, read the book, do the homework, and "read his lips." You'll get an A.

If you can't teach yourself you're going to fail. He makes no effort to explain where he derives equations or how and when to apply them. If for whatever reason you MUST take this class I recommend you show up for lab day and skip the other day to do the write up or teach yourself . I learned more in 1 Kahn academy video Than in any lecture ever.
The last commenter has a skewed view of how he teaches. He complements the book- you'll truly learn the material off that. His tests are literally HW (answers in the back) and examples. Quit whining. I had a low C for the majority of the semester but I got 100% on the final and got an A because I talked to him. He gives good life advice too :)

In his class, you will have to learn by your own. He wants to everyone succeed after transferring to Universities. His philosophy is students struggle first, rather spoon feeding students. If you have the ability to study by your own, you should take his class. Physics is not an easy subject.

I took Prof. Liu's Physics 2A class in the Fall of 2015. He really wants his students to succeed, is available during office hours and occasionally gives EC. Make sure you do your HW, as the exam questions are HW questions but with different numbers. The book helps a lot. Read it before class, then listen to his lectures.

I enjoyed Professor Wai min's class. He makes it very easy by writing the homework on the board in which homework questions are asked on the exam. Funny and humble.
Physics is a science course and you can't expect it to be easy if you do not put in any effort. Dr. Liu is a really kind professor and always desire to help if you show some effort that you are serious about this course and about yourself. Take notes, do the homework, ask questions, review for the test and you will get to the point.
He's a fun guy and shows that he cares about his students. Just put in your work, do all your assignments and labs and you will be sure to get the grade you want.

I did not learn much because his tests come DIRECTLY from the homework so your range of knowledge for certain topics isnt so wide.

Taken summer 2018. Caring and knowledgeable. Attendance mandatory. Will minus points if you skip class or leave early. Just follow the study guide and you will get an A. 4 group reports. No HW. 2 tests - midterm and final. Heavy accent, but honestly not that difficult to understand. Relates material to real life. Can reach by email for questions.
Having recently finished my undergrad, I had a somewhat jaded opinion of the whole academic experience. After coming back to PCC from a UC my outlook has changed, and much of that is due to how much respect and love Dr. Liu showed me and my fellow students. He will set you up for success if you're willing to put in the time, and he won't trick you.
As someone who has never taken physics prior to this class and is not particularly good at it, it's vital that you read and do the problems that he assigns. Study the problems. All test questions come from the problems with minor variation. Be sure to have perfect attendance and take the lab reports seriously. You'll be fine if you follow this.
Lectures are worthless, doesn't explain anything or where he derives the equations he gives. Never understood the questions I had and always was relying on teaching myself or asking other students around me. Would literally put up multiple variables in equations and not explain what they are. Had to drop after a week and a half of summer class.
