is o.k
This guy is great, he is professional, he remembers what it is like going through college. His tests are hard but if you take good notes and do the study guides you should have no problem.
doesnt teach anything in the book, goes by what he knows - hard to follow along
very intelligent. knows his stuff. teaches it well. sometimes chases rabbits, but it usually help give a better understanding of what is being learned. I would recommend him to anyone.
Best history teacher ever. If you answer all the questions on his study guide correctly, you will get at least a B on the tests. He gives some answers in class and some can only be found if you read the book. Take all the extra credit he offers!
Great prof. Knows his stuff. Test are hard but easy to make an A if you do the study guides, read most of the material, and come to class.
I hate American history, but I would never skip a class with Wali. He knows how to relate the material to dullards like me, and his study guides are super helpful, plus he's funny and all around nice. Take his class!
good professor, gives great extra credit incentives.
Tough to get a B in. Has only one test you can relly do well on. And doesn't follow book greatly. Read your notes and do your extra credit!
Good professor - offers study guide, which really helps prepare the student. He should work on his public speaking (not repeat something more than twice), but his lectures were never boring. I enjoyed his class.
i loved him. he's very intelligent & really knows what he is talking about. the test aren't easy if you don't study, but he gives you a study guide & the test is basically a replica of it.
Karif was a good speaker, but his tests were super super hard! last test only 2 people made A's out of about 70 people! Too much stuff to study - 2 books, notes, studyguides, and half the stuff on the guides aren't even on the test.
You ever saw the movie Pulp Fiction and seen Samuel Jackson in it, wel that is this Professor you like that movie you'll like the professor. I had him about a year ago i made a C in his class but man everyday I thought I was watching that movie it was coo
Dr. Kharif is great--exams are tough (at least the first one is), but the study guide basically covers it. Do the reading & pay attention (because he's quite funny!). Great professor!
I thought he made everything out to be a race issue. He doesn't give much help. by no means an easy "easy A" and I wouldn't recommend him.
He has mood problems and loves to hear himself talk. The study guide he gives you is very helpful in studying for exams. Not too difficult if you do the readings and study.
If you are a Republican and dislike Bill Clinton, I would advise against taking this professor.
He was a good speaker, but I thought he brought up race a little too much. Would do well in a Steve McNair look alike contest.
cleary dislikes the white race, still upset over happenings to african americans during the 1920s , class is pretty hard, tests are a ****!

really nice fella, enthusiastic and humorous, not the easiest but you will learn and especially recommended if you enjoy history

Not a bad class, covers a lot of info, classs are enjoyable because Kharif can make you laugh. Study to do well on the tests.
Class was very informative. He gives you a study guide that, if you use it and read the text, will basically insure an A for you in the class. He's not ****, just pro racial equality, and he does a very good job of letting his students make their own opinions. Good professor.
He is a very good professor with the exception of his taking role daily. Other than that, I would recommend him. Also, you will get some good laughs out of going to class. Count how many times he says "Things of that kind of nature." Probably 100. Big time democrat but not ****. STUDY GUIDE!
CLASS SUCKED! HE THINKS TTU IS HARVARD! FUNNY! WHO HAS TIME TO READ THE READING FOUR TIMES. ONLY SOMEONE WITH NO LIFE. HE'S NOT **** THOUGH
VERY HARD!!! I do not recommend him to anyone. If you don't have a whole lot of study time, don't take him... He expects you to read at least 3 hours a day!! Even the study guide he gives isn't too much help... I don't know were he thinks your gonna get the answers. I can't pull them out of my but!!
I think many people misread Dr. Kharif. I think he brings up race alot but would always explain both sides. He is one of the smartest professors I have ever had and is very hard. Overall I liked him enough to sign up for History 2010 and 2020 with him.
His class is pretty difficult. You really have to study to make a decent grade. I made a C in his hist 101, and an A in hist 102 with another teacher.
Dr. Kharif is very interesting during lectures. Take all the notes and study very hard. If you do this you will do okay. He can bring up racial issues a lot, but that is what a lot of history is.
very good teacher, knows his information very well.
He is such a jerk. His test are really hard, and he thinks that his class is the only one you are taking.
The man said that the black panthers is an educational black group in reality they are a hate group = in actions to the KKK. If you are going to teach american history you should do so from a non-partial point of view. He made it seem like the African American society has never done anything wrong.
He is arrogant and selfrighteous. Tests are hard and he doesn't want to answer ?'s in class. Only 2 tests and a final, no other grades. I ended up with a B in the class so I did well, but I would never recommend him to anyone!
He is a raciest jerk. The only history history he wants to talk about is African history not American history. Maybe he should go teach on a alternate land mass. When you talk about the civil war, dont worry about the armies just concern yourself with slavery because that is the only concern he has. Good luck with this jerk!
All you have to do is take notes and study. I hate hist. too, but he gives you a study guide for each test, notes in class, and online notes. so yeah, if you're lazy you're not gonna like him...you basically just have to study.
has his lecture notes online. if you read those and the book. you will be able to pass. his tests are a little hard but he will also answer questions most of the time. is a little hung on blacks in history- but if you know that ahead of time- then just get the class over with. but a great teacher.
Not very helpful at all. Tests were hard and lenghty and there were only 2 or 3 the whole year. No other grades. He did give extra credit opps though.
Da bomb!
he's a really nice guy. just go to class everyday and apy attention and you'll be fine. Just DON'T MISS CLASS!!!
Just do the study guides, and I promise you'll be fine! He's a good guy and his lectures aren't bad! Like they say, go to class--it's not that hard of a class
Very nice man! I didnt care for the class much though. Lectures the whole time! Take good notes!! He takes roll everyday! Don't miss class!!
SO boring! I NEVER went to class.. I ended up with a C which I thought was worth never having to listen to him lecture. I filled out the study guides and skimmed over my book. He took roll everyday but it didn't count for anything. Although, I heard no one went to class much so he may change his attendance policy next semester.
hes very into african american history so that basically what most of the class is about. He grades half on tests half on papers. Hes alright as long as you pay attention in class or at least look like you are.
DO NOT TAKE. He is boring, he pushes his opinions and beliefs on you and his lectures are SOOOO long. I NEVER went to class. I did the study guides and half read the chapters and came out with a C. It was worth not having to listen to this weirdo. His tests aren't hard with the study guide and would probably be really easy if you go to class.
He is a great guy. Attendance is 10% of your grade. He gives three tests and gives a study guide on his website. He gives EXTRA CREDIT, up to ten points. He explains material well, if you take notes. He is the best professor in the department.
You get 3 test and attendance. Those are the only grades you will get. Very hard tests! Attendance is Mandatory and his study guides are HARD!
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Although he does offer plenty of extra credit, his views on history are a bit biased. 2 multiple choice tests and 1 fill in the blank. Not terribly hard, but you HAVE to study for the tests. The study guides are hard to find most of the answers for. Overall, I would advise a different professor.
Do NOT buy the textbook that he wrote, it is a waste of your money. You will not use it and the bookstore will probably not take it back. The only thing I ever used it for was one extra credit assignment, which could have been found on the internet instead.
Dr. Kharif is one of the better teachers on campus. His class does take an extensive amount of time out of class due to the major research project. If you like to be challenged, take him. If not, take someone else. Your grade will reflect the effort you put in.
Dr. Kharif is one of the best professors on the Tennesee Tech Campus. He will work with you an explain and meet with you when you are not unerstanding something in the material. He is very down to earth. He gives TONS of EXTRA CREDIT. Anyone who comes to class and does the etra credit can pull a B in this class!!!!
READ READ READ. hard test. attendance mandatory. extra credit available. 3 tests plus attendance only grades. hard study guides. not recommended unless you LOVE history
I had him for Sports Studies, and it really wasn't that hard. He's not a terrible lecturer, but I have had more interesting ones. He's very biased though: all he cares to talk about is racism. Not the worst teachert I've ever had but certainly not the best either.
He made everything very clear up front. 3 test and attendance made up your grade. If you take responsibility for yourself this class will be easy.Do the work, read the book, and do absolutely EVERY SINGLE extra credit you can! Easy points that you can only miss because you were lazy.He does like to talk about slavery a lot,but oh well, easy A or B.
Test are pretty difficult, mostly the second test. Very boring lectures, read the book!!! Go to class, do all the extra credit(which is 10 short papers), and read the book and you should ake atleast a B.
Make sure to READ! It will help you out tremendously! Also do all the extra credit that is given! The lectures are really boring but go to class and take notes. For each test there is a study guide and about half of that is on the test. Don't wait till the day before the test to start the study guide though. All in all, he is a good professor.
Dr. Kharif is a good professor! His tests are hard but if you do the study guide and read your book then you should do fine. He also gives 10 points extra credit for ten short papers! His lectures are pretty boring but overall I would take him for any history. I took him for 2010 and 2020 and I got a B in both.
Dr. Kharif is the best history professor I've ever had. He requires a lot from his students, expects them to read the text, read the supplemental book, and take notes. He is a very fair professor, gives plenty of extra credit and a study guide! Tests can be difficult if you don't study, if you do, you'll be just fine. Three test 2 multiple 1 essay.
He was a very interesting teacher. I got two B's and a C on my tests, but I still got an A in his class because of attendance and extra credit. I am taking him again in the fall. I would highly recommend him to people willing to put in the effort.
I took Dr. Kharif for both 2010 and 2020...i really enjoyed his class and studying for it. His study guide is on his website, so make sure to take advantage of that and he is a really nice professor if you take the time to introduce yourself. I would take him again if I had to ;-)
Dr. Kharif has strict rules and hard tests, but he offers extra credit which can raise your grade by one grade level. He is very clear and his class is entertaining. Be prepared to read much (approx. 1000 pages) and study for your tests. He is one of the fairest professors on campus and has high personal values. Great teacher, but hard work.
Least favorite teacher I have ever come across. He pushed race way too much in my class and just rambled on about things and expected us to catch ourselves up. His study guide was very difficult and most of the things on there weren't even on the test.
Dr. Kharif was a very good teacher and loves what he teaches. Tests are hard, but if you get the study guide off the internet, then it's almost word for word. Gives you extra credit essays too that aren't too bad and can give you a big grade boost. Takes attendance everyday.
I have had almost all of the history professors in the department and he is by far the weakest one. After a week of his class I was tired of his lectures. His tests are essay and easy to pass if you read. I went 3 times the last six weeks got A's on all test. The paper is easy too if you put even a little amount of effort.Notavery nicemanoutofclass
Dr. Kharif is a great professor... READ READ READ and go to class. 3 test - 2 multi and 1 essay... he gives you a chance to raise your grade a letter if you just do extra credit
Awesome teacher!!!! highly recommended. No History class is easy at tech no matter which teacher you get, but when you get a passionate teacher it makes the class worth while. He also adds extra credit which REALLY helps your grade. From what I've heard the other teachers extra credit (if they give it at all) doesnt seem to make a big difference.
This was the graduate level New South. Great class. What I liked most about this class is that he provided a bibliography of his lectures. He encourages students to look at other authors relating to the subject. Tests are not difficult if you read and take notes. He can be entertaining, and sometimes he lacks clarity. I like him!
Good Professor. Attendance is 10% of your grade. He puts study guides online and if you know the material on the study guides, they account for over 80% of what is on the test. Also offers 10 pts. worth of extra credit for 5 easy assignments. I pulled an easy B with only about 50% attendance.
He is an old-fashioned, polite man who's really passionate about history. He has a good sense of humor. His classes end in a blink of an eye and are fun to be in. Never boring. A lot of reading and studying. Overall, great teacher!
Easy class as long as you read the material.
This teacher is hard, but he offers alot of extra credit. You can earn up to 10 points on your final grade. Plus he gives study guides for his test. As long as you attend class, listen, and read the text you should do fine in this class. His lectures can get kind of boring, but on some days he can actually be pretty funny.
i like him a lot, he is a very helpful teacher. i took his regular class 2010 and 2020 for international students. He made me like history. He offers study guide, as long as you study before exam and follow his ppt, you will be fine in his class!
I didn't care for him that much. He doesn't try to help you and doesn't care about your grade.
I didn't like his teaching at all. It was very hard to learn anything from him. He is a boring teacher. I make As and Bs in all my other classes but I had to withdraw from history because I was failing his class.
Reading is 75 percent of the tests. The rest are from lectures which are long, boring, and scatter brained. Avoid if you don't enjoy reading 80 pages per week.
Seems boring, but is a really cool guy to talk to (He cracks a couple jokes too). It's your stereotypical history class. Read the assignments, listen in class, and do the extra credit homework and you should at least get a B. Need I mention, please study! I had kids in my class who wouldn't. Good Guy. Good teacher. You'll be fine.
Make sure you do the extra credit and show up for class, it will help buffer your grade. Sure the lectures can be extensive and dull but aren't they all. The test can be hard if you don't read, and he assigns ALOT of reading. But a simple trick iv learned is to not just read through the book, but to skim through it while I work the study guide.
The tests really are not that bad, study the study guide, do all the extra credit, and come on time everyday. Overall it wasn't a bad class, he is not very understanding of personal situations however. Just study the day/night before and read a little bit and you will pass.
I took him for Am History 1, in an auditorium full of people, and he took attendance every single day. He does give I think 5 extra credit assignments that have a big impact on final grade. He gives a study guide for the tests, but includes things you didn't have in the guide on the test. Tells you upfront you wont do well, lectures on life things.
This man knows his stuff. Makes you feel like you experienced the history as it happened. AWESOME lectures. Super interesting. Study the study guide, show up to class, and do the extra credit and you'll be fine! I got a B in the class after getting a 50 on the first test. Extra credit and perfect attendance added 20 points to my final grade.
Awful class and professor. Skip class? you won't pass. I studied the study guide for the exams and failed. Maybe a good 5 questions were from it. I do not recommend, especially if you're not fond of history.
Definitely one of my favorite classes of the Fall Semester of 2017. While he has a lot of material he expects us to remember, it's all very interesting and he knows his stuff. He is a very tough grader when it comes to the final paper. But on tests? Just a little bit less, but still very tough on grading. Definitely recommended.
