Akache is from Lebanon, but he is understandable enough. I took Intro to Computers from him and made an easy A (just do the easy course-work). He also teaches VB and programming though, and I can't see him being very effective in those "heavier&quo
One of, if not the worst teacher I've had in my whole college life. You can understand him, but he is extremely unhelpful. If you ask him a question he'll just try to embarass you in front of the class. I don't understand how he is still employed.
This class wasn't hard, but if you want any information, you'll have to ask other students on search the web and not the prof. It feels as though he goes out of his way to embarrass the students that ask him questions in class.
easy course, he pretty much just sticks to the coursepack and so long as you keep up with the workload and turn in things on time, you'll do ok. memorization of basic computer terminology for tests, but otherwise tests are a-ok.

As I'm sitting in his class, I'm amazed by his lack of apathy. He sits and plays solitare on the computer. Good class to take if you know your stuff, then its an easy A. Don't bother asking for help though, he's very distant and unhelpful.

WORST TEACHER EVER. He will never answer any question for you, while all the class is still doing the interminable work he gives you, he plays solitaire the whole class and then puts his hat on and leaves without answering any question.

pretty nice guy. always in his own little world. just comes to class...teaches through slide shows...but nobody pays attention b/c its super easy material everyone know from high school. test are really east too. all u have to do is the projects that are cake and review some parts of the chapters in the book for the tests.
I wanted to learn in this class and was VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! He is a HORRIBLE teacher, very uncaring and rude with students. Plays in the computer, listens to his music and is very flirtatious!!! Could not stand going to his class! He should not be teaching that class or any other one! Waste of your time and money!!!
Worst professor in the history of FIU.
This class is not difficult at all. His curves are outrageous. Simple man, a bit grumpy at times.
Slow-paced monotone voice. Makes class boring. Mildly patient. Weird accent. If you persistently ask your questions you might get an answer. Not the worst teacher, but I wouldn't chose him as a teacher.
I don't consider him a good teacher. He doesn't explain well and he can be hard headed! But the class itself is not that difficult, he could be though..
He is the meanest professor at FIU. He doesn't like to help you, or make any accomadations whatsoever. HE SUCKS! If u see him, walk in the other direction! SAVE YOURSELVES!!!

His class is so easy. I took CGS 2060 with him in the summer, and it was the easiest A you will ever get. I probally skipped most of his lectures, and you can do his labs at home.

This person... no, this entity... is not of this world. You should've seen his midterm for Fall 2005 CGS 2518. Asked about things that were in the book but that you don't pay attention at all because they aren't part of the Tutorials, which is ALL you do in class. And to top it off, all the rumors are true: seriously unhelpful and angry at life.
i skipped alot of his classes and only went to the labs to sign my name. Did the labs at home and still got an A. Just do your work and you'll be ok. He is kinda weird though.....

this man is crazy,I don't know about the rest of you. but if you can avoid taking this man. He has some serious issues with himself and life, very short tempered and not willing to help students at all. Whenever I went to class, I hated myself for having chosen him for the class. Does not teach at all. His midterm and final (25% of the final grade each) are totally arbitrary. It seems that he just pulls them out of the air. Multiple choice exams in a practical class (Computer APPLICATIONS) are ridiculous because the tutorial don't prepare students for them at all.
Akache is the only professor teaching this very difficult class. I suggest you make a lot of friends in the class and do the projects as a group; after chapter 6 the book is seemingly written in greek with SQL, HTML, and XML coding mixed in. He will give a major curve so you will still get a B even though you failed everything.
He always looks pissed off. I agree with everyone he is kinda weird. I asked him for help one time so he helped. I asked him again cuz I had trouble so he said read the book. Never asked anything from him he might eat you alive. His projects are easy but get hard as the semester goes on. Turn in the work early to get xtra points. Exams suck for him
This one tough class. Make sure you do all your labs and hw as they count for 50% of your grade. For the two tests you really have to study your butt off and try to memorize about 350 definitions/keywords to do well. his test are lengthy but theyre all in the book. no surprises. dont ask him for help in class unless if hes in a good mood.lol

He doesnt teach much, most of the class your doing work from the book, thats a good thing..Gives lengthy hard test, but hes curves..gives 5 projects which arent too hard if you do the tutorials(the class work from the book). He will help you if you have a problem as long as its not something stupid. I found it easy, but others didnt.
Professor is a jerk most of the time and isn't helpful at all... his test are almost impossible to pass and the best grade someone got in my class is a 71.. out of about 215 people... take class with another prof...

I personally believe his class wasn't that bad. As long as you complete the assignment and the projects, you'll get a good grade. The class lectures are super boring, but sometimes he gives very important explainations. Test are pretty hard, but he curves the grade. As long as you do the work you'll be ok.

The class is super easy if you do all the projects in time, he is boring and doesn't make the class interesting but his class is one of those where you can get an easy A. He's very cool as long as you talk to him privately, he is helpful, but in class he's kinda mean.
Terrible teacher. He is not hard rather when he speaks he makes everything sound confusing. Asking him a question results in a 30 minute explanation of something else. Homework assignments are not diffifcult and the tests are a waste of time. He curves each test individually and then curves the final grade. Do the HW and Labs and you will be fine.
One word sums it..."****". I had to go on a business trip and missed the midterm. No matter what kind of proof i offered that says i was REALLY out of town he didnt care. I even offerd him my managers biz card so he can speak to him over the phone! His repsonse: "If its not a doctors note drop the class or you'll fail." I lost $400 and 2 months
Really boring. Don't bother trying to understand him. Just turn in the papers on time and try to guess well on the exams.
I personally had no problems with him. He helps you if u're nice to him & ask him privately. Yes, he's kinda boring but so is the subject. Just do the tutorials and projects and you'll get an easy A. The tests are hard unless you memorize all the details in the book. The good thing is that he curves.
Although he can be boring, he is very helpful. It is important to do the tutorials. And if you have a question just try to come early and he'll take his time with you. He is also so cute because he is old.

This guy talks so slow...his boring. He makes his class very hard by assigning very gay projects and labs, which are a pain in the neck. His midterm and final are pretty tough, even though its supposed to be a pretty easy class. This guy is grumpy and rude, you cannot talk to him...when ones go to his office.

I NEVER WENT TO CLASS THE CLASS IS SUPPER SUPPER BORING. HE BASE GRADE ON 5 PROJECTS FROM EXCEL AND ACCESS AND 2 TESTS. NEVER WENT TO CLASS AND RECIEVED A B IN THE CLASS.
Although he is knowledgeable about the software, he is so damn boring. I don't recall anybody almost staying a whole class. Not to mention, the labs and projects take so long to complete. At least he curves the final grade. Take him if you enjoy boring teachers.
Don't take this clas early in the morninG. U WILL FALL ASLEEP or wont end up going to the lectures. I went to about 6 in all spring. They're not very helpful anyway.The projects are a lot of work. lectures make you want to jump off a building. this is a 'do-it-own-your-own-class. not impossible to get a good grade but tests are difficult and gives 5 long projects.
This class is easy as hell. the teacher just SUCKS! he doesnt help u at all and is very very boring. when u show up for lecture just sign in and walk out just like everyone does. Just do the easy computer work and projects he assigns and ur good to go cuz the class itself is very easy. Its elementary stuff, which the book shows u how to do by step.
Horrible! For such an easy class, he makes it hard. His exams are very hard and very lame. Its pointless. He has a difficult accent, so its hard to understand him.
Don't take him! Lectures are so boring but he takes attendance. Weird accent and directions are very unclear and is very condescending. Grade consists of 2 tests which are each worth 25%. The rest of you grade is based on tutorials done from book and projects which are based on tutorials. Don't leave everythig for night before! Got an A.
This class is a do-it-on-your-own class. Don't expect much useful help from the professor or for him to baby you. He knows his stuff but it's too boring for me since I knew the stuff he taught. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR THUMBDRIVE BACK AFTER THE SEMESTER.
Easy, Easy Class. Extremely usefull, too. As someone who has used the applications taught in the business world, I would recommend the format Akache taught to anyone. The class is primarily self taught, but Akache does explain everything in class. Be prepared to ask questions. Very approachable professor, but will not shy down if you try confront.
Overall nice guy, boring boring boring class. Projects are too hard to even go there! My suggestion: take the class with a friend who can help you with the projects! Tests are 100 questions long, and based solely on vocab from Excel & Access book. My advice: take only if you must. Class IS useful though. Especially the Excel part of it.
His lectures are boring and the tests are difficult if you don't do anything. As long as you actually do the projects you'll do fine on the tests. I did the bare minimum and got a B. With just the slightest amount of effort you can get an A.
This is the truth: this class is really easy. yes you need to teach yourself its very simple though you follow the yellow boxes step by step in the book and you will recieve an A. I was apprehensive about taking this course and got an A and I am super lazy. Just follow the book. Projects come from the tutorials in the book and you are straight.TAKE

Try to stay awake Akache is extremely boring, but the subject matter is pretty straight forward. There is no way you can study for his test they are ridiculous but if you do all the projects you will get at least a "B". Also if you go to his office hours he will practically do your projects for you,

This guy is really hard to understand. The class itself is not hard but just alot of pointless work that gets annoying after awhile. If you need help then he will help you, he is really good with that. If you have to take the class then just take it and do the work and you will get an A
str8 up this guy is boring, attending his class is useless because for the lab work and his projects u just need to follow the book. The work he makes you do is kinda easy but its tedious and will take you a loooong time. he is also not very clear on his projects and how he grades you, take him if he is really the last prof available
This guy spent an entire week teaching his students how to open Excel, didn't bother showing up on the first day of class, and has an accent so thick you'll never know what he's saying. The only intelligent thing I heard him say all semester was "I don't understand why people still use the Macintosh computers"

this guys not that bad. I mean granted i think i went to class 3 times lol. he is helpfull if you go to his office hours but the material is extremely simple. all the labs and projects can be found STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. the last project was probably the hardest but other then that its an easy class to get an A in.
He is a really nice guy and he jokes here and there. He does give real world example but to be honest it is hard to stay awake! The programming assignments aren't hard until the last one and he does help with them. The test are easy as long as you study and he curves based on the highest grade. Final was pretty simple, I got an A on it.
Class had about 5 Projects (Each one a program) and you had to do the programs in each chapter (which are outlined how to write them). Written tests were the most difficult part, but he curves the final grade at the end. A bit boring, but not a bad class.
This guy wasnt my teacher my boyfriend had a problem with a project i went to his office and he actually did it for him, he sat there and fixed everything and explained to me what to tell him, very nice man and you use the text books ALOT. Overall my boyfriend passed his class and he hates computers.
DO NOT TAKE!! Tests are long and irrelevant and count 75% of your grade- quite hard in my opinion. You really need to study to get an A! Loads of work, you will need to complete the entire Access and Excel workbooks by each test along with 2 projects. Just keep away from him, even if you want to learn!! You are better off with someone else!!
Pro. Akache is a relatively good but not great professor. You will definitely have no problems with his class if you have had previous programming knowledge; otherwise you will find his classes a bit difficult. If you are a student who relies only on professors for explaining a particular subject/topic, then this is not the professor for you.
His tests are impossible to study for. He DOES NOT provide a study guide.Expects you to learn everything in the book. His homework and projects are OK. It is unfair that the 2 tests have more weight than projects/homework. Take this course online if you can.
Do not recommend him. Heavy accent. Seems to not know his material at times when students ask him to fix a problem. Was not able to answer questions at times. Class is pointless if you read the book because he repeats all the material. Doesn't teach, he only puts the powerpoint and then does a project that is explained step-by-step in the book.

No need to go to the lectures. No one takes him serious and it's kind of sad =/ lol the class itself gets a bit confusing with the access workbook but it's totally doable if you pay attention when you're doing the exercises. Got a B. And I didn't even complete all of the final project.

The class itself is okay. You basically teach yourself while you do the assigned tutorials. There are two projects and two test. Projects are only worth 10% of your grade. But you have to study A LOT A LOT for the test if you want at least a B in the class. If I could choose my professor again I would definitely not choose this guy. WASTE of TIME
He is a horrible teacher. He gives 6 projects that are very difficult to do for a beginner. You have to make sure you study for all his tests. His review for the final is useless. If you don't pass the final with a 60% u fail his class. His lectures are the worse and attendance is not necessary. Both COP 2250 teachers Joslyn Smith and Akache SUCK!
This professor is ridiculous. He shows you the videos that come with your textbook in class and his "lectures" are riddled with personal stories. You can teach yourself out of the textbook so its an easy grade, but i would never take a class with him again. Make sure to study for his multiple choice tests if you HAVE TO take him. BIG part of grade.

Worst "professor" at FIU. He makes you go to class for nothing, he doesn't explains the topics, just talks. There are 2 projects that are kind of hard but the book is very helpful. The midterm is 30% and the Final is 40%. The questions ARE EXTREMELY SPECIFIC so you need to learn the book almost by hearth. Its way better to take it online! trust me
Pros:Everything comes exactly from the textbook. As long as you read the textbook you should be fine. 6 projects, 2 tests and final. Funny guy too Cons: takes points off projects for small things,still has my flash drive
SELF-TAUGHT CLASS. Going to class is pointless. All he talks about is his life and unrelated topics. The class is easy but be prepared for the EXAMS! You will have to memorize everything in those. Bad teacher, does not know how to explain, and not very helpful. I mainly relied on the textbook and I could not pay attention to his lectures. You would not know how to study for the exam, so the best to do is study the vocabulary.
Tests: 100 question multiple choice based of exact "nitpicky" information from the book. Teacher: does really nothing to teach the class, extremely hard to follow, my TA wasn't at all a help and seemed to not ever speak to the teacher, he babbles on about random things every single class inbetween course information making his lecture impossible.
Self taught class, he just talks endlessly about his life and you can't even understand him. I originally had an A in the middle of the term and suddenly got a C as a final grade. I did everything we were suppose to do, and I can't find out what I did wrong. He still hasn't returned any of my emails concerning my grade.
I had him for Java. I've always been good with computers, but this was my first programming class. His classes are incredibly boring and he isn't helpful at all in class. He teaches the class with PowerPoint instead of typing it out in Netbeans and explaining how everything worked together. THIS IS A SELF TAUGHT CLASS.
First of all, I was a little confused by the way attendance is handled. The syllabus says that attendance (and participation) are not graded, and yet he takes attendance in class? His lectures are boring and aren't very helpful, so you will mostly learn from the (great!) book. His class isn't hard, you just would not want to attend his lectures.
This class is a self taught class. Might as well be online. Professor is not helpful, never available, drone voice, powerpoint reader, and a tangent story teller. Worse of all, he will purposefully change assignment parameters to cause you people that miss to have points reduced on their projects. DO NOT TAKE.
This class should be an easy "A" for most, but with this professor, it isn't. His lectures are like sermons. This guy is there to collect a paycheck at the end of the week. I find these reviews very helpful so I'm trying to be as fair as possible. My advise: stay away from this guy. Take it online if you have no other choice. Good Luck.

Honestly, he's a good guy and he is very helpful when outside the class. Yes, his lectures are a little boring however if you read the book... you will do good in the course. I would recommend to take him if you really aren't trying to learn java in depth and use java your programming language for a career.
Lectures are pointless, only 10 minutes of information are actually helpful. Does actually ramble about his family and life stories~ he's a nice old guy but his whispering and thick accent don't really help you with anything. As long as you do the projects according to the book you'll be okay. Tests are based on book, super specific. Good luck
The class should be easy, but the professor its very hard to understand.
Guy was really good and helpful. I wish he taught more subjects. He definitely knows his material. at times goes offtopic but for the most part he is good. I would totally recommend him for everyone to take him.
Worth his weight in gold. Adored him. Gave me the goods that I still apply today. I learned a lot in there.
