This guy is a jerk. I took an online course with him as a graduate student. He is very UNHELPFUL and his instructions make no sense. He demands a lot of work and then gives no credit. Very arrogant and thinks he is really smart. Avoid at all costs.
he will turn on you like a brown pancake
i really liked his class. sure some things are unclear sometimes, but i had the most questions in the class and he was very willing to answer them. a few quizzes and one major presentation project on one play...not too bad. funny grading scale tho, but it works out (25 questions for 10 pts)
What a JERK!!! Belittles students to make himself feel superior. People who do that don't want to help you. Talks endlessly about his talents as a speaker and actor. GAG ME! I paid to better myself, not to argue with a Prof. Don't take his class, unless you have a desire to be put down in fron
Omigod! What an @$$!!! He was such an incredible jerk!!! So rude, so stupid, everyone in class thought he was such a moron. He'd be super pissed at you if you were late, but he would always be late!! Was most unhelpful, and rude. Thinks he is the best person in the world. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT
To say that he is a total jerk would be an understatement. I advise anyone not to take this guy. He thinks he knows everything and he likes to belittle students.
I dont think he should be taken as seriously as all these students have. Hes a fun guy if you just show up to class and dont waist his time. I think everyone is just upset because they thought it would be an easy A.
I'm taking this as an online class and oh my god! I should've taken art instead! He expects you to be VERY SPECIFIC when it comes to the quizzes, but are only given 45 min. for five essay questions. Grading is horrible and confusing, and he is very condescending. If you can, avoid this man like the plague!
Professor is unclear on details and doesn't give feed back for students to have clear understanding on mistakes. Professor does not allow room for growth because of this. He grades too hard not to say that his class is not important to the theatr but he is hard and marks down for minute reasons.
hard grader, wants you to specific with you work, but he is not specific with his remarks
Don't waste your time or money. He expects a ridiculous amount of work and detail. He doesn't allow a reasonable amount of time for quizzes. This class should have helped me learn the material, but it was more about semantics than anything else. DON'T REGISTER WITH HIM.
Horrible! Some students and I wrote letters to the Dean, that's how bad he was. Gives no feedback, asks you to write more and then says you wrote too much, doesn't participate in discussion board so really didn't do anything except grade really hard. After many complaints, dropped lowest quiz but it was too little too late. Avoid him if possible!
Wallace was a very good professor when I had him. Very easy to talk to, will answer all questions if you ask him. He's also a great director to work with, and am happy to continue working with him on shows here
This man is an actor. He knows, from experience, that you get nowhere without hard work. If you F up in this class, like late assignments, you can't make it up. He's adamant on that. But the man is so intelligent, so diligent in teaching you and helping you. If you can keep up with his brisk pace and not slack, you'll be fine. You'll learn, and have a good time too. He can be a jerk, but that depends on you now, doesn't it?
Overall he is ok. If I could of done it again I would of had another speech teacher, despite getting an A. He can be rude and mean when it doesen't call for it. He is very picky about how he want your speech layouts. If possible register for a better and more understanding speech teacher. Oh he can brag about himself sometimes.
Bridges is a professional actor, and I have seen it up close and personal! He is awsome, you just have to be determined and not be a slacker. You will never make it anywhere in the acting world if you can't put up with his strict rules! He does it to push you and make you suceed!
A real stick head. This is an intro class and he treats it like it is an advanced course. If you don't want your GPA to drop then stear clear of this BOZO!!
Relentless S.O.B. He can be a pain in the butt but he expects dedication out of all his students. Gen. Ed. requirement or not. I dont recommend taking him if your looking for an easy A. You wont find it here.
He expects a lot out of his students but is not very clear on assignments. I would avoid him if you want a good grade because he grades hard for a gen ed class. He also takes a very very long time to return assignments that take you a long time to do.
complete JERK....way too tough on a lvl 100 class. please avoid at all costs not a good prof!
Demands assignments to be submitted electronically but doesn't fully understand the technology. Also expects the student to adhere to deadlines, but does not feel the need to himself. Very biased with grades- depends on his mood. Irresponsible. Definitely NOT a blow off class... expects professional actors!
he fails people for fun. based on his social skills i think he was home-schooled. if u miss 3 or more classes don't expect an A. don't try to be his friend..if you do he will fail you first. don't register for his class it will result in pain..lots and lots of pain!!
Don't take! What a jerk! He asks specific interpretive ?'s and doesn't allow for interpretation-only giving 1 point per ? on quizes. Not helpful, Not techno smart. Arrogant, slow grader, slow response to emails. Emailed class to say he w/away producing a play-who cares? But our assignments had to be in on time. I w/complain to the Dean too.
I would like to report this prof for the crap he pulled with myself and a friend AFTER he found out we belonged to a particular organization. Was failing and rude to me but nice to my friend for the exact SAME work, then when he found out friend was also part of organ. started to fail friend!!! Rude and ridiculous, he should be fired and jailed

He is very particular about everything --got to have those stapples!!! This class was one of the classes that I had to do the most work for and this was an elective. this class can be fun, but you have to be deicated and who wants to spend everyday doing something that you will probaly never pass in, just say he can be an ****.,dont miss any day
I think most people that don't like him are the ones that can't take criticism and are too sensitive. Wallce shoots from the hip and if you are willing to learn something and not be so whiny, you can learn a lot. I took him amy freshman year and he has been one of my favorite professors ever since. I say, take him and prepare to learn somthing.
He is a JERKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!
He clearly states the class requirements. He pulls no surprises. He sticks to his syllabus and give extra credit opportunities for everyone. If you read the assignments and attend his class, you will do well. Excellent prof who says what he means and follows through.
He is the biggest Jerk on the face of the planet. His grading isn't fair in the least bit. All his quizes are essay, so he can grade them however he feels that day. WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!!!!
One of the wors classes I have ever taken I changed my minor after having his class he makes acting not even fun and his attendance policy is ridiculous he also made the class go to his play and pay to get in and he has mood swings and dont wear a hat or not sit up straight in his class because he will rip you apart overall he just sucks real bad
He is not a jerk. He's a very nice guy. Just show up to class, do the work, and participate. It was one of my favorite classes I've taken, but if acting isn't your thing- don't take it. It is not a blow-off class. He makes you go to the plays and write papers on them- the only downfall i thought.
This pofessor is not clear on material. His points have not gotten across to students for the last four semesters, as other students have expressed the same concerns.
i took online. look up sparknotes to plays b/c he wont allow any interpretation, it must be what everyone else thinks. Doesn't actually read e-mails, just the first line then assumes the rest. Had to email 3x before he answered my question. very pompous
I will admit that Wallace can be unclear about guidelines and that you have to cater to what he wants from you, but he is an amazingly helpful professor and accessable. I read these negative reviews and was worried about having a class with him and was shocked by how much I disagreed. You will work and will learn, definately give him a chance.
Syllabus was well organized, followed. Assignments were very clear, IF you pay attention. Two 2-minute monologues to perform, and one 5-minute "duet" scene with a partner. All 3 require a score w/ actions written down. 2 plays must be reviewed. Extra credit avail up to 10% of grade. Class started exactly on time, repeated tardiness decreases grade
The only gripe I have with Professor Bridges is his excessive lecturing on African American theater and how great it is. He talks down and belittles anybody NOT a minority. He was NEVER in his office during hours, always responded to emails days later, always waited a week or more to give out grades from quizzes, and was always late to class.
This is not only the worst professor I have ever had, but he is a horrible person. He has the worst grading system, and only lectured 5 times in the semester! Is rude to students, and actually forgot to cancel class beacuse he had an "acting gig". The entire class sat there for 30 minutes and nobody came to tell us class was cancelled, no emails, n
EMU should fire him. This "teacher" is a useless tool. SO RUDE, cannot grade, you will fail. He is an "actor/director" but he is talentless... Stops presentations over a staple..would you do this during a play NO! He is a loser and he needs to be smacked in the face. Dont take him if your GPA matters to you. Went to the dean nothing happened yet..
Run away! Run away and never return! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH WALLACE BRIDGES. He is extremely rude, has ridiculous quizzes that ask stupid things like what color was someone's hat, and has quite an obvious prejudice against white people. He also makes his lectures somehow talk about how bad white people are...sooo offensive and uncomfortable!
This class is passable, if you attend class every day, do ALL the assignments, see all the plays at EMU, do extra credit, and participate. If you want to pass this class with good grades, you will HAVE to WORK HARD!! He is judgmental, so dont take anything personal. You will not learn anything and will probably be dumber for taking this class.
Wallace is a very good man, once you get to know him. The syllabus is very well put together, and as long as you follow it and study, you'll do just fine. He does require you to go to the shows that the department puts on and write papers, but that's not a big deal. Overall, great professor. I'm taking CTAR151 with him this fall.
Awful teacher. Don't take if you want to preserve your dignity. Interrupts class for stupid things, obviously prejudice, very rude, and immediately stifles the idea of interpretation if it isn't what he thinks. "Cancels" class without notice, and slow to respond to e-mails. It's painful watching him act in class and boast about being an actor. Ugh!
This professor often has a hard time developing respectable relationships with students. If he enhances his capabilities or understanding issues and developing solutions the class would flow smoothly.
OMG! HONESTLY!! If you can avoid taking this professor do so. I don't necessarily believe it is his attention to be viewed as a ****, inconsiderate person but he definietly leans towards the title.
The problem with Wallace is that he takes the class way to seriously. If your not an acting major, don't take this professor. He grades hard and shows way to much favoritism. Work wont be worth more than 10 points but he's giving most 6's and 7's on them. Stupid teacher 2 take if you wanna boost your gpa
I would not suggest this professor. He takes the class too seriously for a gen ed and requires a lot of outside effort for the class. Grade is reduced for more than 2 absences and entire class is 100 points. Hates talking in class and points it out, but gets upset when you ask him about material already covered.
OMG had him for INTRO TO THEATRE!!!!!!!! WORSE TEACHER U CAN TAKE. HE IS VERY condesending, rude and inconsiderate. Thinks very highly of himself and thinks that WE dont have a life. You are expected to do a lot outside of class and you are expected to say NOTHING during class, never be late, and attend reguarly or ur grade will suffer!
HERE'S THE THING ABOUT PROF. BRIDGES; Bridge's is not accessible to the casual acting student. I have studied acting my entire life, and thusly have a decent handle on theater jargon. If I didn't I would do very poorly in his class.
Prof. Bridges is a good teacher but a HARD grader for an intro class. He does know what he's talking about and is passionate about his work. You don't know what he wants from you but all you have to do is talk to him. I ended the class with an A. Do all the homework, NEVER skip, and do all the extra credit... and you'll be golden :)
Good instructor but is stuck in his ways. Only take if you have a good temperament and positive attitude.
As long as you show up on time, do the work, and don't mess around in class then you should do well. The class doesn't really teach you about producing theatre, but he's not a horrible teacher.
You have to do everything exactly as he asks on the sheet. If he says two sentences, you write two sentences. He has good intentions, but that doesn't make him a good teacher. I took Producing Theatre, and it's not about producing theatre at all. It's more like "Intro to what you already know about theatre."
I had professor Bridges for African American theatre and the site is definitely exaggerating! The course was extremely easy, you read the scripts, participate in discussions, talk to him if something is going on, and show up to class!!! you will be fine! e.c. is offered, overall a fun and very interesting course!
First of all you have to remember this guy is a theatre guy so we're all a little quirky. As long as you are committed to the class and doing your work you will do fine. I didn't enjoy it though. He spent 75 minutes explaining how to write a paper about a show we saw. Pointless. He's frustrating at times and rude to others. I'm on the fence really.
People definitely exaggerate. He's definitely harsh if you act out, but it's understandable. If you respect him, he'll respect you. For the most part, if you pa attention and stay off your cell phone, you're good.
He is very straight forward in his assignments, lectures, and grading. Just do what he says, and you will do great in his class. He gives respect to those who show him respect. He's not the typical easy-going theater prof, so don't expect that; however, he is by far my favorite in the department.
Professor Bridges did well in aspects such as being available to help and giving extra credit. In other areas like criticism, he is very harsh. In the course I took we had to act and he would tear each individual down by stating everything they did wrong in front of the whole class. Calls out students very frequently, and removes points for talking
Bridges has a bad rep for being so picky but as long as you follow directions word for word you'll be fine! He's a harsh grader but he's also very helpful if you ask and knowledgeable in his subjects. If you don't take criticism well don't take his class but I happen to think his criticisms were very helpful!
INTRO THEATER CLASS: Great man. Great Instructor. I was afraid at first because he has a bad rep but this man is amazing. I had so much fun. You got to participate and show up, didn't use the book often you only need to know the answers to the online quizzes but you don't need the book to get those. Take notes, pay attention.
Took the class as a Gen ed and for an easy credit. Terrible, barely passing the class. He is very tough but if you follow his word and acting is your major than he is for you. Gives great feedback but is very demanding. I heard other classes are fun and easy but Bridges makes this class worse. Do NOT take for an easy credit.
he doesn't go over the info that will be on the test you read by yourself then just act in class. if you write your paper ahead and send it to him he well tell you what to fix but only use 4 sentences per paragraph no more no less. also be anal specific. 2 quizzes 2 tests and 3-4 papers 4th is extra credit.
Professor Bridges is hilarious !! We read 3 plays. There's 3 very easy test, if you read the plays you will pass. We were assigned one paper and he gave a clear outline and we covered all the info in class basically.. Come to class, read the plays, and you'll pass. He is sarcastic and demands your attention but very easy going . Do the work easy A.
Wallace is serious business but funny as heck! I truly enjoyed his honesty. We're all young adults so try not to be so sensitive.
Lectures are not interesting but its an easy class!
He either shows up 10 minutes early and takes attendance well before the start of class (which is a huge part of your grade) or shows up 5 minutes late and acts like he shouldn't be held to his own standards. He makes sure that every student knows they need to listen when he is talking but almost never shows his students that same courtesy.
Wallace is very, very particular about what he wants and he isn't very good at explaining that. He is not very understanding when you mess up and he grades very strictly. He does provide good feedback and answers any questions you have. Be respectful, work hard and he'll like you.
Overall, I took this class as a Gen Ed. Do not take this class with him. He is extremely rude. Treats his students terribly. There were some days I couldn't get out of bed because I didn't want to hear him bad mouth me or other students. His grading is terrible, and if you mess up on one thing, he makes sure you get zero points for it.
I really enjoyed this professor and learned a lot from him. He will definitely make you work for your grades. He also provides very good feedback so that you can improve your grades throughout the semester. Last but not least, if you behave like an adult then he will treat you like one.
I love this guy! Hes funny and witty, even though the way he holds himself might suggest otherwise. I had him for honors intro to theatre and just took producing theatre with him this past semester. He is very particular, but will give you an outline to follow. Be respectful, come in on time, and pay attention, otherwise you wont do well.
I took this class as a general education requirement, don't take it unless this is a requirement for your major. 1. There is no learning curve, expected to be perfect 2. No feedback except negative, HARSH grader 3. Does not excuse absence for ANY REASON, grades attendance 4. Will take attendance before class even starts and mark off points.
Gonna have to be a no for me, he grades completely unfairly, missing 1 sentence is the difference from a A to F. Never taking this professor again.
Mr. Bridges is such an amazing theatre instructor. I had him for fundamentals of acting and he taught me so many new acting techniques. He is a very well respected actor and professor. Not going to lie hes pretty tough. But if you actually participate and just be a good student he will return the favor! He is the best professor Ive had at EMU.
He is an amazing teacher for Fundamentals of Acting. I am a theatre major, but if you want to take this class as a gen ed, you might wanna pick someone else. Mr. Bridges has clear expectations, is super funny, and is pretty easy to get along with. As long as you show up on time and put in the effort, it's really not a hard class. Would recommend!
he expects his students to be perfect even though he does not teach and if you do one small mistake he will take 5 points for that. do your self a favor and look for another professor.
Wallace is an incredible director. As a professor? Not so much. I took Producing Theatre with him, and it was an absolute nightmare. I will never enroll in one of his courses again. It was one of the courses I was most excited about, and I learned absolutely nothing. I'd love to work with him as an actor in a show. Otherwise, no thank you. Beware.
I was an A student with a 3.98 GPA taking this class my FINAL semester of college to fill up some of my remaining 124 credits. I take school very seriously and am very proud of the work I have put in. Wallace Bridges failed me and I did not graduate when I was supposed to. I now have to put grad school on hold. I am not a theater major. Do not take
Professor bridges is a very tough teacher. I had an A all semester and It was changed to a C last minute when I had no more opportunity to make it up. You lose points if you dont come to class. This acting class was taken more serious than any other subject Ive ever had. Would never take his class again.
Professor Bridges has wonderful and interactive lectures. He has great tone fluctuation that keeps you awake, and is able to incorporate modern ideas into his work. A little extra at times, but is expected in a theatre setting. Truly cares about the person behind the student.
he is very involved in the assignments but he shows what he wants done and then when he grades he wanted something completely different
This class and professor frustrated me very much. I put an immense amount of effort into this class- as I do all of them. His expectations for assignments are unrealistic and strange. I followed his instructions to a point and he still gave me low scores. His explanations were vague and a little silly. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
His grading expectations are extremely unreasonable. Is not clear about what he wants. Do not recommend at all. I took this class for easy credits and it was ridiculous. Complete waste of time and lots of pointless frustration.
Professor Bridges is overall a nice teacher. When I reached out to him with questions regarding our theater review paper he was able to help. Aside from that, the grading is rough. You can follow his directions to a T and still get many points off. His instructions can be unclear often. I'm not sure I'd recommend this class or professor.
Harsh grader and not understanding whatsoever
Vague grading criteria with no clear instructions beforehand, not willing to work with you on things, very hostile with his deadlines, and will call you out in front of the class and give you a 0 even if you had everything done on time just had problems with canvas to turn things in and make you feel ashamed.
i took his online course so I haven't met him in person. Your work is spread out over the semester so theres no rush to get it done.
Professor did not put very much effort into teaching the course- mainly forced you to read the material and complete tests, quizzes, and discussions. Barely communicated to the class and was a very tough grader for no reason. For theater response course he requires you to go to a play that costs 50$+ just to write a page about it.
He treated this class like you are a theater major and it is a gen ed. Worst ever in the universe do not take unless you want an unnecessary headache and stress. Also not a clear grader and grades you hard like you are theater major. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
Professor Bridges does not give clear instructions or feedback. He doesn't really help when you email to ask questions. I really worked hard to get my grade in his class.
Kindly, AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS if you're looking for a gen-ed requirement. Poorly formatted class, having more than 50 readings in a week (10 or more of which didn't work). Vague answers on how to improve. Weirdly specific on answers and formatting for quizzes and exams. Taken asynchronously and will never take again even if failed.
He grades very harshly and does not give clear enough direction for how specific he expects answers should be. I would definitely suggest not taking this as a gen-ed requirement, because it is a lot more work than it should be.
He is very unclear about what he expects from students when it comes to answers, yet grades harshly if you don't follow exactly what he wants, even if it is capitalization on a fill in the blank test. He gets off track very easily and never goes over in class what we are expected to take the exams on. He made the class much harder than necessary.
Honestly, don't take this class or have this professor. His grading was terrible, his tests and quizzes were terrible (hardly made sense), and overall, seems like he didn't care. If you want a bad grade even for trying your hardest DON'T TAKE
terrible very harsh doesn't prepare you for tests. Definitely not an easy class.
Terrible professor, doesn't help you at all, extremely harsh grader will mark you down heavy for things simple as capitalization mistakes and things like this. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS EMU NEEDS TO FIRE THIS MAN
Wallace isn't the best person—he'll make you the butt of jokes and won't believe simple things without making you jump through hoops, even something like attending a funeral. He also grades harshly; if your work isn't perfect, expect your grade to drop.
Far and away the most incompetent grader of all time. Tells the whole class they did a great job-- and the class average is a 62%. Fun enough in class, but I would not wish Wallace Bridges on my worst enemy.
He's the worst professor in history I couldn't stand his disrespectful self he's always talking his sugar honey ice tea for no reason nobody did anything to him he's mean and will try to embarrass you in front of the whole class. I honestly feel like he shouldn't be a professor at any University not even a teacher at a HighSchool. Has to be Fired!
He's very rude and has a smart mouth not a great teacher and needs to learn how to respect students more. He also needs to go back to grad school and learn how to grade properly don't ever take his class. Most of the students that have taken his class has failed or passed with a bad grade he's the worst. Has the most nasty attitude for a grown man!
