He's so self-important that he doesn't teach anything, he just talks about how good he is. His main goal is to see his students fail or get expelled.
He is so boring! He doesn't teach at all, unless pointing at the computer screen for the full class hour is considered teaching.
I had Dr Leese a few years ago - the BEST accounting teacher I ever had. Clear, concise, demanding - outstanding explanations. Ignore the whiners who don't study.

Dr. Leese was a very good teacher. He made the course hard enough to learn. I put in the time and got the grade to show for it. You have to earn what you get. A great teacher.
Not everyone can learn from going over homework problems. There is no lecture and very hard tests.
Tough, but explains things clearly. Prepares you for the "real world"
What I like about him is that he did not show any favoritism, unlike another accounting teacher. Leese teaches a tough class but is impartial. One of my favorite teachers.
Dr. Leese is part of the old boys club and has no respect for women in his class. His teaching stlye is to go over excel homework during the whole class. This teacher has been very frustrating for many students.
If you want to learn something that will help you in the real world, take this class. Its tough but a very important part to business and he teaches it very well.
Fair, impartial teacher. All he does is go over the homework problems, but he does add a little bit of lecture while he does it. The class is very hard, but his expectations are clear. I can't say I enjoyed myself, but I have no real complaints.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. His lectures are terrible, but you have to go to pass the class. Just go and read a book or magazine. Tests are hard, but everyone fails, and he stills passes you. Do your time and get a C and be thankful.
Dr. Leese does not teach anything. The class is tough and he is not helpful. Is it time for retirement yet? I hope so. I think Leese has been on here rating himself!
Unbelievably thorough. Had answers I never thought of. Pushes you to learn. Not for the faint of heart
doesn't lecture, just goes over homework problems which makes the material a lot harder to understand. takes attendance everyday. his style makes the class really uncomfortable. don't recommend at all because i didn't learn anything.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. I would rather be tied to the back of a car and pulled around town. You WILL NOT learn anything.
Terrible class. By far the worst teacher I have ever taken to this point. Show up for class and fail the tests and hope for a C.
Dr. Leese is to be respected. Looking back, the only reason I know accounting is because he cared enough to push us to learn accounting. You snivlers should be thankful. Quit whining or change your major to marketing or management. Great classes. Knowledgable and caring.
great structure to the class. no hw or asignments for points. grade is dependant of tests and final. if you are a good test taker, consider this class.
Absolutely agree with prior comments - Dr Leese has high standards and is always prepared. If you are willing to work, you will learn an amazing amount. If you're not willing to work, then you can whine to Rateyourprofessor. Catch a clue, its college.
Attend class and do the SAP assignments, these are the easiest points you'll get. Tests are hard, but he grades on a curve. Style is a little quirky, but this guy REALLY REALLY knows his stuff. Posts answers to homework in advance to facilitate self checking and learning.
Very hard but very prepared, motivated, and he actually cares that you learn! People who want to succeed in life should take him. Others should get a job at burger king. Grades fair. Excellent teacher.
Leese is one of the worst teachers ever. He forces you to come to class by taking attendance then goes over the homework all period. It is a shame he is the only one who teachers acct 110. If you want to learn accounting take brock.
class is one of the hardest I have ever had. I did well but thats because I am good at taking test, if your not, aviod him at all costs.
worst teacher ever. don't study because he purposely makes the test ridiculious. the only grade comes from three mult. choice exams and he curves it. i got a 49% and received a C.
i actually think he is the most prepared teacher i have ever had. he obviously loves accounting and he works harder than any student, then he expects you to work hard too. my grade in this class actually means something. i didn't like the subject but i did like the teacher. he was helpful.
Good teacher. He works harder than the students!
More instruction would be nice not everyone learns from reading a book. I have never met someone so "mad" at the accounting process. He always puts it down.
so hard that you'll want to crap your pants, but a nice guy and smart as hell. Study hard and foucs on what he didn't cover in class and you'll pull a B in lower divison classes, becuase you are compeating with dumber people
Dr. Leese is really good and prepared for rating himself on ratemyprofessors.com, the bottom line is that he is horrible and is not a 'teacher' at all. He's more like a 'talker.' Have fun listening to him talk about himself all period.
Very difficult teacher and knows his stuff. Must do the work to get through or your screwed.
What an idiot. Someone needs to tell him that no-one understands anything he's talking about and that his glasses are outdated. Child services also needs to check out the collection of kiddie pictures hung around his office. -Child ****!
If your idea of fun is looking at an Excell spreadsheet every class, then this is the class for you. Hard material, and his borring lecture style makes it even harder. Have fun... because most people don't have a choice to take it. Read the book, class notes aren't that important, the book is!

Did not teach any material. Went over powerpoint slides for some chapters, but the powerpoints were pointless because all of our tests were computations. One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Take someone else if you have an option.
excellent teacher in every way. yes he is hard, but he helps you.
this is a hard class. teacher is hard, but helps you alot in office housr. i am getting a c and that seems like the grade i deserve.
horrible teacher. i hate him. i have straight A's except for cost. i have a 68%. wtf is going on here? he dose not teach. he only goes over homework which is not turned in. his test are horrible and often says we are idiots. i hate this man and if i take it over again i will be so pissed. a waste of a teacer. he dose not teacher. period.
He gave in and curved the class. But alot of kids still got D's in the class. He is to stressful for the average student.
The teacher every accounting student hates to take. If your in Acct 16 avoid this man. I learned a good deal but everyone was getting a failing grade after the first test by the end he curved but I worked my butt off to get an A and many people stressed out
You will want to bang your head against the wall after the first test. After the second test, you might cry. I did. If you can pass this class, you are made of good stuff. If you get an A, you will know you accomplished something few ever do. This teacher is difficult, but he really knows his stuff. DO NOT take this class for fun.
He was very thorough in going over homework assignments but when it came to exams, he would not even give a hint as to what we should expect. Most teachers will do a review of the exams but he doesn't. This is a tough class and it would've been helpful if he'd of helped us a little. I will avoid his classes at all costs!!
Very challenging teacher. Basically teaches to pass the CPA exam, so if you're not planning on taking it, you're not gonna like this class. Tests are difficult, and you must read the book if you want any hope of passing. Might come across as a jerk, but he's really just trying to teach you what you need to know to be an accountant.
This instructor didn't do much instructing, but rather just went over homework problems from the textbook. He didn't use very many of the techniques used in the textbook to solve the problems, so often times he was difficult to follow.
Horrible horrible teacher. Do not take ACT with him. He's impossible to follow. Some how he knows what he's talking about in his head, and can't answer anyone's questions. He acts high and mighty. He makes you feel terrible when you have a question.
I had leese in 1981 and 82. Same teacher. I got an A because i want to beat him. He helped alot when you go to office. Use CPA tests and books to study. Must do homework and get past first test.
Not a good instructor. When more than 90% of the class receives an F, there has got to be something seriously wrong with this guy. Understandable at graduate level courses, however managerial accounting is a basic, undergraduate course. Avoid at all costs.
I have had Mr. Leese for Acc 320. It was a very tough class, however Mr. Wallace was an excellent teacher who knew what he was doing. For me, I was so glad I took that class with him. He is a real accounting teacher. "super, super hard though"
I went to his office every week for help and he didnt even bother to ask my name. He did help, but it was still an extremely hard class where you have to go to every class, even though the classes are useless. I had a tutor & still got a D. Lets just say I changed my major from Business.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Studied more for Managerial Accounting than in any other class my whole college career. I still got an F. one person out of two classes got an A-. Average was around 55% (F) before a supplemental exam and about 68 (D+) after exam. He did not teach for anything. Good luck if you do take him, but save yourself if u can
I'll keep it simple - worst teacher I've ever had. I passed but I've never worked so hard for a stinking C in my life!!!!
From what i've read so far, everything is true. You MUST read the textbook, If you dont you fail, exams aren't based on lecture only way to survive is to read the textbook and possible get 2 or 3 tutors.
I was scared to take him from his comments. Took it over intersession and really liked him. He's a little conceited about how he's right and someone else is wrong. But be a serious student like he wants and you'll do fine.
One of the better professors I have had. Leese presented the material in a logic and practical way. You do have to read and do work (THIS IS COLLEGE!) but it is not unreasonable. I recommend taking Leese if you are in school to learn (so that you can be successful), however if you are trying to just let 4 years go by take someone else
gives a TEST everyday before ever lecturing on the material.(red flag #1) theyre t/f tests but the questions are intentionally tricky. ive studied hard for this class and still may not pass. he hands out the attendance sheet at the end of his 3 hour lecture on the ch. you just tested on so that ppl wont leave. (red flag #2). DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
Horrible teacher. I studied my ass off and read each chapter twice. He does not lecture on the reading. He spent more time talking about his kids than he did teaching. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Half of the class got a D or lower.
This class is very difficult. There is a lot of emphasis on textbook reading, but little to no lecturing on concepts taught in the book. Heavy in class use of spreadsheets. Tests are VERY difficult. Leese is available in office hours to help students, but in class is little help. Attendance mandatory. Grades on curve.
He was hard but if you are an accounting major and want to be successful in the real world he is your best shot.
Hardest teacher I have ever had at Chico State. He made me want to switch out of accounting and his lectures were not helpful, all he did was go over homework problems.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. worst teacher I have ever had.
Bad teacher, hard class! This is a class you have to take and there's no alt. professors. You get attendance points so you can't miss any of those points. Exams are beyond hard-I basically guessed on every question on every exam and passed cuz of attendance. He will make you want to quit, but don't lose hope!
Most over-rated class ever. You basically have to study super hard for an exam that consists of 2-5 chapters, then he do a drawing either the class before or on the day of the exam to see which chapter you will be tested on. If you focus too much on one chapter compared to another and get tested on the chapter you didn't study much for, you're doom
This was a HARD class. Hardest one I've ever had. You will feel like you're white knuckling it through the course because Leese is intense as well as demanding. Do ALL the homework, do your best at attending and PRAY. Study appendixes as well. Don't give up and just try your best. I had no social life while taking this class. Peace.
Prof. Leese is the best professor I have had in my college life. He really care about his student. He really want you learn something about accounting before you graduate. He make the exam very hard so that to force you to study hard. I encourage you guys to spend 8 hours/week for this class, then you will be fine. The knowledge worth your time.
HARD CLASS! This is the first bad grade I've gotten. He only goes over homework problems in class and you have to go home, read the book, and try to understand enough by yourself to do the homework. Attendance is also crucial as every day is worth points. We also studied 4 chapters and he only tested on the last chapter.
Hardest class I have taken. Do all the problems multiple times. Don't feel discouraged if you score low on the exams, as the class gets curved. You never *really* know what your grade is until the very end. Good luck.
Does not teach the class, only goes over homework problems and expects you to teach the material to yourself. Because of this, there is little reason to go to class except for attendance points. I would get more out of the class by going to the library and reading the book/going over the problems myself with the answers he posts than attending.
One of the hardest classes I've ever taken in my life, not because of the content as much as from the lack of teaching. He complicates every single concept in this course. Even if you just rely on self-studying from the textbook as I have, you will face incredibly difficult and unexpected problems on his exams.
I am currently in his class. After 4 weeks I hate him so much. He talks about somethihng, than will get off track saying something unrelevant just to confuse you.
Wallace Leese makes a poor first impression, I say that because he comes across as very difficult and unwilling to help, but that is not generally the case. Yes, the class is very difficult. Yes, he is a little gruff. But if you seek his help outside of designated lecture time he is quite helpful and actually fairly kind.
I never learned as much about acct as i did here. The proffessor is hard. I gave him a horrible review during class and i stated my oopinion. he is very very hard, i failed 4 tests and ended up with a d. Which i did not deserve. He is very sweet for that grade.
The dreaded "hard class" in accounting at Chico State. Except not. At all. In the least bit. Are you good at math and can reason logically? You'll get a good grade. I really don't understand why people think this is a hard class.
Mr. Leese is proud of his reputation for being a tough teacher, but his class isn't difficult. The grading is erratic and he prides himself on making exams that even CPAs and CMAs cannot pass. Everyone but 10% of the class "fails." He curves so much, so mostly everyone does pass. Grades don't reflect knowledge and effort. Not conducive to learning
A very difficult teacher. I was scared I wouldn't pass. Do the homework and show up to class. He wants to see how critical you can think and will push it to the limit. He tries to confuse you so that you will think different about costs. He has helped me succeed in other classes and Cost 2 is more interesting. Get the study guide book.
Doesn't lecture during class and instead goes over homework problems. You'll discover going to class is a waste of time but you are essentially forced to go because of attendance points. The material in the book isn't that difficult, but Leese likes to throw test questions that don't even resemble the material in the textbook or HW problems. GL
Do not take this class. Poor. Worst professor & class I have ever met. He checks attendance every classes, and gives a pop up quiz sometime.
lectures are boring and consist of him messing around on excel the whole time. theres no real homework and your better off just guessing on tests. he explains things in the most confusing say possible. everyone fails this class but its curved so most people end up passing. best of luck and let the curve for ever be in your favor...
Here is the truth that all these other people are hiding from you. The ones that are going to get As are the ones that have no life. The ones that get Bs are the ones that have a life. To get a C, you don't have to do anything but go to class and do good on the pop quizzes.
Does not teach, but rather talks at you. Points at various numbers on already worked through problems on an excel sheet the entire class. Don't bother asking how you can manually get the numbers either, he will respond with "you don't manually calculate it-it's an excel function". However, for the test we have the pleasure of manually solving.
By far one of the worst professors I have ever had. And there is no avoiding him, since he is the only teacher. He pretty much expects you to read and master the chapter before class so he can do example problems with you that don't help at all because he just tells you how to get the answers. He is a very smart guy, but very arrogant. Good luck.
Dr. Leese is a bad teacher, period. He wants you to think your failing so you work harder. Read the chapter, do some problems, then go to class. Do not listen to his lectures if they confuse you. If you don't fall behind it's easy to pass. Fair Warning: 33 out of 81 got a C- or lower this semester after the curve and have to retake.
Wallace is a great person outside of class, but during class he is a monster. You either have to be the top of the top to understand his class or just hope you don't fail as bad as half the class. About 60% will pass with a C or higher. The rest will have to see him again and I'm assuming those who do will still not understand the class.
SHOW UP TO CLASS, attendance points can make or break your grade. He tests on concepts and problems, you NEED to read the textbook and UNDERSTAND how to work through the problems he assigns. Study for his tests for AT LEAST a WEEK. He is tough but he is a very nice and funny person, he wants you to succeed, but you have to put in the effort.
Leese is a great professor. Hard but great! Apply yourself and you'll do fine.
All the rumors you've heard are true. Wallace is the toughest professor out there since he's so old school. He's taught some of my classmate's parents. This was the toughest class I've taken and you are going to fail, just don't fail worst than half the class because only half of you will be passing. He is a great conversation starter though.
Professor Leese was one of the most difficult professor I ever had. He makes you work hard for your grade. I managed to did ok the last exam and final and passed. Attendance definitely counts! Do average on his exams and you can pass. Big curve too, try to maintain your rank on his excel. I prayed every day to pass this class, good luck!
I am not bad at accounting, i read every chapter and I try so so so hard to understand his methods but they just dont make sense in accordance with the book or what any other accounting teacher is teaching. The tests dont look anything like the homework problems nor like the book and everyone does awful.
This class will challenge your motivation and intelligence. You will probably hate him until you learn the material yourself and actually understand the numbers he points to in class. Once you do, you will see that he'a extremely knowledgable and passionate about cost accounting; which can make him arrogant. He is thankfully retiring!
He reads off of powerpoints that are provided by the text book.
Knowledgeable. No wasted time in class. Set phone alarm so class ended on time. You need to read book to understand class materials. Covers material in detail in class.
Literally the toughest professor ive had at Chico State. I did not learn anything in this class, and every lecture was the same thing, nonsense.
This guy is awful. Don't ever take his class. Beware.
no homework just exams. Very hard class, Hard grader. He came out of retirement to continue teaching. he does not try to make this class easy for his students. dont take him if you have any other option. cumulative final.
Takes attendance, will give pop quizzes if no one shows up. Assigns homework but never grades it, meaning your entire grade is based off of the 4 exams and attendance/pop quizzes. Very monotone voice, not good at engaging the class. Do not take him unless you have no choice!
Leese is an old school professor and he is extremely knowledgable about accounting. Pay attention in class and do the reading and you will have a B at the worst. You have to show up to class because of pop quizzes and attendance is a huge part of his grading structure. Everybody fails the tests, but thats ok because the whole class is curved.
This is a really good course if you learn better by teaching yourself. If you would rather be taught, Professor Leese probably isn't for you. It is clear that he cares about his students' success though, and he sends out helpful emails regarding coursework at least weekly.
