Horrible! Does all work on spreadsheets which is hard to follow! Goes through examples like we're all accountants! Barely any explanation at all!! Horrible Exams! Study Hard!
terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!exams are horrible. Material is not hard but he makes it hard.Doesn't explain, just goes thorough excel, doesn't complete a single word while explaining. Not recomended, but there are no any other profe. teaching this class.
First Midterm class average-borderline fail.Lockharts famous response "aw,well what can i say guys? I'm sorry" & never curved the grades?? TERRIBLE prof. Everything he does is off excel & he goes so fast it makes your head spin. "ok who doesn't know what they're doing- raise your hand".. more like who wants to hang themselves after this class? me!
Wally's a good guy with good intentions. But.. he kills those intentions by making ridiculously hard tests that are too time consuming to even finish. Seriously Wally, go easy on your students, we are not accountants. And I think you turn some would be accountants to other majors. This guy wants to us "think" on problems. But on difficult questions
Brutal!! He makes two different exams for midterms so people don't cheat.. but the questions are from completely different chapters!! You may be tested on a chapter you don't know as well as the other exams questions. Its retarded, so hard.
It's a hard class. There was the lack of clarity for expectations on tests. Tests: he expects outside-the-box thinking, but also show ALL your work if you have time. I skipped steps; had the right answers, but lost marks. Told on day 1: Read the chapters, do the problems and assignments. I did most problems, all assignments, and some reading... 85%
I am interested in accounting and have some work experience in that area. However, taking this class was a bad idea. Dropped 30+ points from my last accounting class which was in the 90's. Thanks a bunch. Will not take anymore classes from him. Find another prof or he must change some of his techniques. "Don't count on finishing the exam", he says.
This is the worst prof ever. He seems to be very knowledgable, but seriously cannot teach. Going to class did not help whatsoever. Terrible TERRIBLE professor.
Walnut in a half shell: **** turtle power. Sets you up to fail.
He doesn't seem to understand that the questions he whips through in 30 minutes on his prepared spreadsheet takes about three times as long to do by hand. He doesn't give enough time for exams. If this course is so hard, like he keeps telling us, then why do Ron Baker's students say it's easy??? Take 288 from somebody else, if you can.
Terrible prof. Sets you up to fail. Midterms are completely unfair. He himself decides which ones are easiest and depending which colour you get, determines if you get extra marks on your test after you've written it. All students agreed the midterm he deemed "easiest" was actually hardest and vice versa. Avoid at all costs.
Wow, lots of whining! He tells you how to pass at the beginning of the semester... read the chapters before hand, do the class problems, chapter problems, and show up to class. Not everyone is going to get above 80 (unlike most business classes at the UofR), but there is no excuse for failing this class. Yeah he's hard, but the whiners are lazy!
Maybe the ones you call "whiners" are the students who can't learn just from a textbook. If you're a good self-teacher, the class is okay. If not, Wally leaves you high and dry with his obscure spreadsheets. He tells you to ask questions in class, but it's hard to find the right question if he lost you 3 weeks ago. . .
he is only good professor for those students who have a very good Accounting background.Coz the stuff he talked about in class is very hard, even I paid twice time after class I still failed the assignments and miterm, I hope he can make this course easier coz not everyone is smart in this world.
He's a great teacher. As long as you read the chapter ahead of time and do the examples he assigns, you'll do fine. He has high expectations, and if you're looking for an easy class, 288 isn't it! He is extremely helpful if you ask him for help and he sets you up for the professional world! Will be looking for more classes with him!
Okay this guy is horrible. I mean can he make this stuff any more incomprehensible? I'm sure reading the text more and actually doing ALL of the practice problems MIGHT help. But with 4 other classes, and feeling lost after the second week I got just a little discouraged. I wouldn't suggest this guy AT ALL! As for you brown nosers, way to go.
Don't take any class from this guy. Who gives there students a midterm that he knows we could never finish? Previous classes even told him that, HE EVEN TOLD US THAT WE WOULDN'T FINISH IT!!! Who is this guy? And on top of that he said that half of the class probably won't finish the final. "The bar is this high..." Awesome.
WOW! His class is passable, do the work, read the chapters, and complete the assignments. Seriously, if you're looking up this rating to find out if he's hard, he is. Is this class doable? Yes. Anyone complaining didn't do the work.
do a few questions on the back of the chapters assigned and you will do fine. there were no surprises on exam, people who complain did not do their homework. Most accounting classes are that way, have to do it to make it become routine.
Awful! would not reccomend to anyone! WAY too much work with other classes. would take class from another prof!
Dr. Lockhart is very tough and expects a lot from his students. He has a passion for teaching and wants everyone to succeed. He is very approachable and his office is always open if you have questions. The exams are hard but there was never any surprises. I would recommend him and take a class again from him.
not bad for taking the class for the 2nd time. Has gotten alot better @ his teaching style. Better @ explaining spreadsheets and assignments. Midterms were ok & finishable if you studied. Took it in the summer - good idea. DO THE PROBLEMS & READ THE POWERPOINTS/TEXT BEFORE CLASS AND YOU'LL GET A REALLY GOOD MARK! Marks hard on essay questions.
Wally has some bad ratings on here, but don't take them seriously. I have to say, he's actually a really nice guy. He is straight forward about what is going to be on the tests although he throws in some very seemingly trivial things on the final and he is very animated and interesting. I will definitely be taking 388 from him.
I think Wally has gone soft. I was expecting the class to be a nightmare from what I had heard about Wally, but it really wasn't bad at all. Almost everyone finished the exams early. I think a lot of people just don't like accounting and so they beat up on the prof when they do bad.
Wally is the WORST professor in Regina, at first he seems nice but soon you realize that he cannot stop talking about himself. No proper professor evaluation in his class. He creates his own and wants to discuss the answers in class. Not many students can tell a professor he sucks in his face.
Being a first year bus. student, I was warned about Wally, but I have to say he wasn't that bad at all. Bus 100 was a new course but Wally did a good job of introducing concepts and making sure we knew which ones we needed for exams. The class was A LOT of work (study plans and an online quizes due each week). The textbook is a GOD and is a must!
Overall his expectations weren't very clear and he changed his answers to fit him. Didn't seem to cover all aspects of the course and textbook material, seemed to stick to one area. All assignments are done in pre made groups!
Awesome!
BUS 285 Absolute WORST Professor I have had in my Life! Taught us ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! All he did was show us SLIDESHOWS OF HIS TRIPS. The exams and assignments were EXTREMEMLY DIFFICULT, especially since he HADN"T TAUGHT ABOUT ANY OF IT. Absolutely horrible! I would NEVER Recommend him!!!!!!
Great prof. He set clear expectations and answered questions well. The workload was heavier than most classes with small group assignments weekly but exams were fair. Work hard and you can learn a lot.
He is very straightforward however he expects a lot out of his students. He assigned either an online quiz or group assignment for each class but they were very basic. Exams were long but he is a good marker. As long as you pay attention to class and do the assignments you will do good!
He's tough, but if you work hard in the class you will learn more then you would with the other professors. Prepare for group work and study hard for your mid terms, and cite everything!
*Wally seems scattered throughout classes *Assignment everyday but not hard *The tests are ridiculous, marks way too hard for easy questions *Very helpful if you go to office hours *Very nice guy *Hard to follow for bus100 but in the accounting section he was crystal clear *I would buy the text
Always upbeat in class. Goes through powerpoint slides too quickly. Gives participation marks for coming to class, in class drops hints of what's on future tests. bi-weekly quizzes (need textbook to answer). Weekly group discussion assignments. Two major assignments.choose mark weighting. Passionate about what he does and is an awesome prof!
He slides are too fast and very poor, he's the worst professor in the u of r. Its difficult to understand where he's driving at, he pays attention only on the domestic students despite the fact that the international student pay alot of money to study. He's brilliant but not intelligent enough to understand pple and make pple understand him.
very useless class. i didnt learn anything important. he's teaching is very poor.
its very discouraging for a prof to tel his first yr students that they will never finish their mid term, he needs to work on that statement. There's an economics instructor called Ida Liu. He needs to learn on how to teach from her. his slides are too poor and misleading.he explains like a gang star rapper. he needs to learn some teaching skills.
Never take this man's class, I doesnt teach well.he teaches like he is in class to give cartoon slides. wat a terrible prof for new students.
Wally was the best prof I've had. Very passionate about what he is teaching and he always tries his hardest to engage the class in discussion. He is a very FAIR in his marking and will make you work hard to get a good grade but also let the class resubmit if you did poorly. I defiantly recommend taking this class Wally is great
u re working towards failure to take this man's class. he is hardworking but has bad unorganised notes .he makes u hate the course itself, worst prof of the year.
he is just ok but not really a perfect one for u
Wally is a good man but he needs to attend a teaching school. he is brilliant but not good enough to teach. Will recommend him for people who dont wanna attend classes
take his class if u wanna fail this course.
If you are an international student please dont take his class, he will make you wanna go back to your country, he will make you get discouraged about the university itself.
not good for international students, he doesnt even give u marks so u get urself motivated i was always looking for marks in his course even if i tried allot harder.seems nice teacher with friendly behavior but we need marks not your kindness we want something in return for our hard effort
He is a great prof, really made me interested in accounting to the point that it is now my major! You need to attend the class to understand the material, and the lab. He is always happy to answer questions and makes an effort to make the class intersting and understandable to students.
He really discouraged me about the faculty, he made me regret studying at the U of R.I am not sure of my grade yet.
I did very well in his class, but that doesn't mean he isn't one of the most arrogant profs Ive had. Midterm was almost as long as our final, but with only a third of the time to write in, then he blamed our low average on laziness when it was clear the test was just too long. I did not learn from him, only from the textbook.
Great prof! Lacks a bit of organization and clarity but truly cares about student success and very accessible outside of class. He stresses writing so be prepared to write a lot on tests. Overall, just do the quizzes and assignments and you'll do well.
i will rather spend an extra year at the university and wait for another prof than to take his class again. His explaination is meaningless and misleading thanks to the textbk. The only thing he talks about is "BABY BOOMER GENERATION" Gosh!
First 3 weeks he pretends to be nice so u wont drop the class but later u'l find out uve made the worst mistake of the century by not droppin his class
He want you to know the course but he does not really care if you fail or not. In the process of trying to make you know the course very well, he makes it too broad and you get confused along the line and you end up knowing nothing. I would rather wait a session than take his class again because he makes you feel the faculty is difficult.
Loved this class - A very good introduction - Wally tried to get to know every person in the class - he was available at almost any given hour - responded to emails almost instantly - sometimes he goes through stuff quickly but that's what the textbook is for!
Absolutely fabulous prof. There are a lot of small assignments that take a bit of time but they are easy marks and the final was only worth 25%. Really easy to get a good grade, and Wally is really helpful with everything. He cares a lot about his students. And always tries to make things interesting and make people think for themselves. Great!
Very difficult class compared to all 300 level accounting classes. Wally places major emphasis on writing in 388 so be prepared for essays and writing responses.
I really enjoyed Wally. His class is a fairly workload, but he still treats us with respect and knows his stuff
Not a great time, he made the class a lot harder than it needed to be. Very unclear expectations due to his "experimental" teaching methods.
Wally expects a lot but wants you to do well. He provides a lot of feedback (critcal)but only so you can improve. There was barely any lecture, it was all group presentations. He expects you to know a lot about financials!! It was a lot of work but I learned a lot and would recommend him for BUS 400. Take in the summer if possible!
Do not take this class if you are looking for a low work load! CRAZY work load for a 100 level class! Not alot of direction and very little in class lecture but still ALL the work. You cant miss more then 3 classes in the night class or you cant write the final. TAKE WITH SOME ONE ELSE! he is nice but work load is WAY to high!
I feel that this professor is one of my least favorite. He seems knowledgeable but in this class he wastes time doing other things that are irrelevant than actually teaching; most of the "teaching" in this class students do for themselves. Also, for a first yr class the work load is huge. Class is 2 x a week and assignments are due every class.
cares about people. is willgining to help if you actually care yourself. decent amount of work but classes are interesting and he engages students. teaches in a neat way, not just off the powerpoint reading. little of that actually
Wally really cares about his students, and takes pride in what he knows. He is very clear on what you need to know for exams. BEWARE: this class is a TON of work, but easy . Just keep up with it. If you listen to his lectures he tells you what you need to know, but his lectures are kind of useless and you need to turn to the textbook a lot.
Friendly Prof, but this is not what students just expect. Hard assignments, a lot of work, motivational to some but discouraging to many.
Very nice guy. I really enjoyed this class. Lots of work for a 100 level class. one assignment due every class. Most of the work is not hard though. Midterm and final are lots of writing and very long exams. Need to study for exams using the powerpoint slides and textbook. He is very passionate and made the class fun. I highly recommend him
Nice guy, easy class. BORING speaker. Weekly quizzes are so easy. gives you most the questions for the midterm and final ahead of time. Wouldn't suggest him, wouldn't avoid him. If you get him, be prepared for boring lectures and easy tests. Very few assignments. overall easy prof for biz 100 at the U of R.
Lots of people don't like him, but I thought that he was a good prof. Doesn't talk much about the concepts explained in the textbook, but gives lots of questions that will be on the midterm and the final. He also genuinely cares about the students in his class. I wouldn't recommend him, but I also wouldn't avoid taking another class from him.
Wally was a great prof. I honestly loved his class but a lot of students did not enjoy nor respect his teaching methods. Just take advantage of the extra credit and make the effort of reading the textbook.
Passionate and approachable. Class is VERY assignmentquiz heavy, which means many are worth 0.5%, which is ridiculous. Expects a lot of effort for assignments that are worth basically nothing. However, it is easy to get a high mark. Lectures do not really focus on class concepts and are mostly just rambling. Gives questions before the exams.
Wally is the best prof at UofR. He genuinely cares about his students. He is very knowledgeable and gives lots of extra knowledge. All you need to do is study the material in advance and attend the class. He is approachable and allows students to redo the midterms.
Fun class in general. I didn't like all the guest speakers that came in the class, but it made the class more interesting. A lot of homework. Tough marker & his exams involve a lot of writing. Doesn't have many office hours and it seems like he doesn't want you to come to his office. When you do, he barely answers your questions and was in a rush.
Wally is a really good professor, he really does care about his students and is willing to put in the extra effort if you are. The weekly class-preps were overwhelming at times he gave some flexibility with it. Studying for the midterm/final was kind of difficult. The content was a hit and miss, but you can tell he loves his job.
Do not take this class if you have anxiety.
Wally expected students to teach each other. We were encouraged to post our research for our peers to use, but there was little information posted by Wally. At the beginning of the term he gave the impression he would be supportive and accessible, but every question asked elicited a sarcastic/unhelpful response. Not a good experience.
Personable and relatable!
Positives - Knowledgable and accessible Negatives - Unclear grading criteria on projects, unorganized lesson plans (outdated materials), heavy workloads, and sarcastic/condescending remarks do not promote a positive learning environment or academic experiance. Your time and tuition can be better spent!
Wally is extremely unclear on what he wants from his students. Group projects and discussions were a total mess. I did not get anything from this man, but only the guest speakers he brings in to teach for him. Also extremely rude, and condescending if you ask a simple question very politely, I've witnessed him do it to students often.
This prof. is the most terrible prof. ever in my whole University life. Not about teaching skill or Not about work load. This guy is extremly rude and very arrogantly ignores students. He doesnt show any respect to students but teaches ethics, which is very ridiculous to me. Very unorganized and grade as he would like to.
BUS 100 has a lot of work just to weave out those who aren't ready, its a gruesome class so it isn't the prof that makes it bad it just is a bad class. Wally doesn't mark most of the assignments so follow the rubric you can do well. I recommend him you will learn a lot of great lessons used in uni and life. I was against him but now would recommend
If you put in the effort and have an open mind Wally is great and you learn amazing life lessons. At first I told people not to take it because it was hard at first but his final was very reasonable If you are willing to work and show up to class Wally is great. You're in university now an easy ride with an easy prof isn't going to help you in life
Class was disorganized, in class group work was never followed up with any instruction or discussion. Had several other teachers lecture (Team Teaching), and their lectures were actually beneficial, they teach you how to interpret the information, and what to look for. Take another prof. Nola Jooristy would be probably be great for this class!
Rude and disrespectful. He does not give clear instructions for assignments. Grades as he pleases and does not follow the assignment guidelines given in the course. Expects students to learn from forum postings by other students.
This professor is worst professor I have ever studied under. He makes little things so confusing and unclear that you hardly learn from it. He is very lazy, and disrespectful and does not give you any clear instructions. Please avoid his class.
This professor is from another planet. I suggest not to take class from this professor but if you will take, following things you will face; -unclear instructions -assignments with unclear and weird grading criteria -he only focuses on presentations and will not tell you how to do it but will grade you according to what he thinks right.
Hands down the worst prof Ive ever encountered. Gives tons of assignments that have zero or little guidence. As an accountant major I didnt learn one important thing to do with accounting. Unbelievable that this is the only prof that currently teaches the class. Avoid at all cost please!!!
Words are not enough to describe this prof. Who hire this guy as professor? He just wants to apply his pathetic experimental teaching method on students. How can you have unclear grading criteria in 400 level class? Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss his class he will make sure you wont pass his class. Please avoid his class at any cost.
I would not recommend this prof for this class. His in person feedback for class work as presentations is the exact opposite of your grading. He is condescending . asks questions like Did you even write this?, I dont even think this deserves marks. I was in my fourth year with four other 400 level classes and bus100 was the hardest!
I think this professor needs some training in teaching students. He might be knowledgeable but he do not know how to teach students. Honestly I did not learn much in his class. He sets the standard for presentation based on other students presentation and will grade you using unknown criteria. Please avoid his class.
Wally may have unconventional methods of teaching class concepts, but if you pay attention to what he says about topics and PRACTICE the questions he assigns you can do very well in his class. Lots of small assignments in the class, most of which are marked by the TA so beware that they are looking for very specific answers. Good class overall!
Worst prof ever. He does not even know what is he talking about in class. Who hire this kind of teacher? Read textbook by yourself? That's what we pay our expensive tuition for? Ridiculous.
I took Bus100 with Wally years ago. Saw he was teaching 388 and couldn't resist. He is tough on his students but if you can survive/succeed, you walk away a much more valuable businessperson.... Might be the toughest prof I've ever had but he is easily my favorite!
Overall, not a good person. Extremely condescending, mean, threatening and fear-mongering. His style of teaching is horrible, and his exams were ridiculous. Each one was far too long and were not reflective of the in classwork and assignments we did. Would not recommend.
Absolute gem. Wally taught me everything I'll ever need to know about data analytics and writing professionally. You will be time crunched and you will be pressured. Don't crumble. He is preparing you for so much more. Don't let comments below fool you. Great man, but he weans out the weak.
Wallace absolutely sucks! if you want a more direct and condescending prof take Wallace! if not please be patient and wait for a better prof.
I will never recommend this prof.
Be ready to learn the concepts on your own. He expects you to read the chapters before class. In class, he will present you with sample problems which he describes as "working along with him" but in reality, he's just solving everything as fast as he could without discussing how he did it. Exams do not reflect the in class problems. Terrible prof
Tests and assignments are not clear. He will showcase topics by using excel which is good, but he just stays silent and flies through answers. The marking criteria is super unclear as you are expected just to know what to do even though it is not described. Be prepared to wait for marks to come back as it takes weeks to get assignments back.
Wally is a great guy who actually cared about student feedback which was especially appreciated during the pandemic. If you engage in class and listen carefully to his advice, you will do well. Although I enjoyed his 488 class, I could tell his passion lies more in business strategy, and would have liked to take Bus 100 or 400 from him.
A bit rude and not at all cooperative. He doesn't cover core concepts and is not clear on hi approach to structure the course. Would never ever take any course by him.
Wally really cares about his students. If you're struggling, he is ready to meet without you outside of class. Connect with him early in the semester when you first face issues, rather than telling him at the end of the semester. Hard marker, but fair and wants the best for his students.
Wallace is an amazing person who tries his best to prepare you for the future (CPA and accounting life). His course will frustrate many as he is intentionally vague and lets you decide how to approach questions and solutions. If you can think independently and communicate it well you will do great. Effort & thought communication trump accuracy.
This class is a total grind with a ton to do. Hang in there!
If you are an average student, do not take his class. He will expect the highest from you by teaching nothing. He should be retired, period.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Lots of work, and you never know what he wants from assignments or papers. Do not expect to do well in this class if you have done well in past 88' classes.
He claims he wants students to succeed. That means his word is speaking louder than his action. If he truly aimed for students' success, he should've taught us better. It was such a nightmare for this whole semester. If you want to graduate peacefully, please take Kevin for the win.
First-day assignment 1 midterm exam Resubmit midterm exam (optional) 6~7 discussion forums 1 leadership presentation (optional) COIL Project (presentation, consulting report, self-reflection report) 4 case assignments (top 2 marks included) 1 final exam 1 final exam essay (reflection report)
Wally should not return to university any time in the future for the sake of students' mental health.
Giving one star is even a waste for him
This class is hands down the worst I've taken in all my post-secondary years. The grading is tough, and he assumes you're already a pro with all those '88 tools. Lectures are a waste of time, didn't learn a thing. Avoid this class with Wallace at all costs.
Worst education experience I have ever had. Tells stories about his early career negligence like it is a badge of honour. Grades based on person and not intelligence. Worthless human who has moved onto teaching out of desperation. Pound sand wally
Avoid this class with Professor Wallace - a tough grader who doesn't provide much guidance. Lectures are a waste of time. Thankfully, Unstuck study and other study tools helped me prepare for this class.
