professor ellis is by far the most interesting professor at hcc. i took sociology and marriage and family with him. it is impossible to not pay attention. he has an uncanny ability to keep the class involved in the discussions and his lectures informative

he is truly enjoys teaching and it shows. he keeps the class going and is very easy to follow. tests can be a bit difficult but not if you take good notes. he is one of my favorite teachers at hcc.

Dress very unique, especially with his crazy hair. Hated the class, was always leaving us to do rediculious group assignments while he went to get food and beverage for himself.

Walt was an incredible teacher! He's very energetic, and I find I am energized when I leave his class. He's inspirational, and he does care about the students. The tests are very clear and easy. Attendence is important, if you miss one day, you miss ALOT! His class is jam-packed with great info. FUN

Walt's pretty cool. While I found the content of the class a little on the weak side, at least it was taught by someone as engaged and funny and as Walt. He has very strong leftist opinions, but genuinely respects the differing values of everyone in the class. Decent guy and a decent prof too.

Walt's expereince, energy, and positive influence set him apart from other teachers. His lectures are interesting and useful. Gordon rule is simply to compile 2 essays from notes. Outlines given pre-test, so you are totally prepared. I looked forward to this class!

He's ok. I can see how he'd have students not like him, he can be blunt. His lectures are long and doesn't encourage class participation. if you take his class then show up, take your notes and follow the study guide and you're fine.

Walt is a self proclaiming WASP, funny, and a straight talker. Walt tells you like it is. Listen to this man he knows where the problems are. And they are not on TV. Tests are easy if you study (i.e. READ THE BOOK). Notes are bouncing but he seperates the tests fairly.

This was a difficult class but W. Ellis is great. He keeps you interested and is very lively throughout the entire class (I took the 2.5 hr session). The tests are very hard if you don't take notes AND read the book but I felt like I really learned a lot

made class fun, was very engaging. I enjoyed the class. Take notes and go every day and you are guaranteed to get an A, its just easy as long as you go.

Very amazing teacher. Educated in his subject, so, he knows his stuff. As long as you pay attention, the class is simple. I got an A, and have also learned A LOT. He is a awesome teacher who is real energetic and very open about the subject. He is rowdy and keeps you awake by talking. He jokes alot and he is funny. His tests are easy as long as you take notes you will be fine. He has debate panels every two weeks that are awesome and he lets you slide on some things.

I wish I had taken all my SOC classes with him. Great professor. Nice to have a professor thats passionate about the subject and can still make others want to learn. His panels give you a chance to debate certain subjects plus boost your grade. If you get a chance definitely take a class with Walt.

having flunked intro to sociology before, i wasnt looking forward to this class, but Walt is a great professor. lectures are fun, very clear, and he keeps everyone entertained. lets you know EXACTLY what is going to be on the test, so just study the guides he gives out and you'll get an easy A.

Walt is an enriching professor with a lot on his mind. He shares many stories relating to the material that helps you remember for his tests. His tests are elaborate, so you have to study. This course helps people dissect our current and past problems in society. Walt is a good hearted professor with a ton of intellect. I highly recommend him!

Walt is a great professor. His tests come mostly from his lectures, BUT if you read the questions at the end of the chapters you will do really well on the MC part of the tests. Attendance is very important; you will miss tons if you are absent.

I took him for Social Problems, and it was awesome. Funny & entertaining! It is easy as long as you use his study guides for tests. You're required to get some extra credit though service learning, which kinda sucks, but I'm pretty sure I really made a B but he gave me an A. The book helps a little on tests, but not essential. I ddin't have one. =)

Good professor, he's gets excited about certain issues and is entertaining to watch. Take notes! Overall I would recommend this professor for this class.

He may seem a bit intimidating (his subtle jokes/humor), but if you speak to him outside of class, you will see that he is a nice, intelligent man. He made a boring subject, an interesting subject because of his clever teaching methods. I'd go for him if I were you. Easy A (make sure you use his study guide)!

His immense sense of humor will keep you awake and laughing through most of his classes. He teaches the subject from his astute knowledge. He can go on tangents every now and again. He's almost always prepared for his class. Be sure to take notes and use the study guide for tests. He'll joke with anybody, whatever his or her views. Just take him!

He's a really nice guy. Sociology isn't the most interesting subject but he did his best to spice it up a bit. He definitely kept us laughing most of the time. You don't have homework ever. Make sure you study the study guides and take good notes in class and you're set!

Sociology is not an interesting class, but he make it a little more fun, between joke and joke you learn something new and thanks to the jokes you memorize the subject easier. The book in his classes is like a Bible, without it you won't pass the class.In his class you feel comfortable and like if you were at home. he is a great professor!

Prof Ellis is a very amiable and likable man, and he brings a relaxed joviality to his lectures that is enjoyable. He gets off topic easily, but is always engaging and interesting. Sometimes you need to separate his opinions from fact, but otherwise, a wonderful educator. His SYG-2000 is a great introduction to modern social institutions.

His lectures are fun to the point of making you want to attend class. He's respectful of other peoples opinions/beliefs. You can't go wrong with him. He knows his stuff and makes you enjoy the subject. I want to take his other classes just for fun. After this class, I think I want to major in sociology. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE BOOK!

WALT IS THE MANNNNNN! this guy is a genuis. Not only is he halarious and jokes around with his students, he makes sure that everyone feels comfortable while discussing controversial issues. Only four grades in the class (four tests). Studying is a must as they can be tricky. Walt is the coolest most chill hippie-professor ever.

Prof. Ellis is a great teacher. He makes students feel relaxed with his humor and energy. He as a couple of group assignments but they are very easy. His test are based on his lectures AND material from the book, so read the chapters!

Walt is a wonderful teacher. I took his Sociology class last year and he was so funny. He made the class enjoyable. I had hoped he was teaching Psychology this past semester, but unfortunately he wasn't. I highly recommend Walt. He's the best!!!

as all the other comments say sociology is pretty boring. however he is always making jokes which makes it easier to pay attention because he is not boring. you do HAVE to read the book, half of all the tests come straight from the book so you need it, you cant skate by without it, but he gives alot of examples and is very nice.

I have taken a lot of classes with Walt Ellis, some in the Honors format. The material is challenging, and he is passionate. I wish there were more professors like him. I have taken everything he teaches, filling up my electives. I only wish he taught more.

Recommend reading the sections in the book relating to the study guides. He is very motivating and encourages students to go far. One of the coolest teachers I know!

His class is kinda cool you get extra credit for hardly doing anything. You dont have any formally written papers that you have to do in the class. the only bad thing is that the class seems to drag a bit but thats because its my last class of the day.

If you dont want to have fun in class, or if you dont have a sense of humor, dont take this class. Ive never been in a class where every single person was really interested in what was being taught. He is amazing, take him!!!

Awesome class. He goes on and on with VERY through explanations which sometimes confuses people but as long as you write his notes down and read the book (which isn't hard to read) then you should pass with an A or B. He loves Key Lime pie so just bring that in and you'll be sure to get an A. ;)

Great Professor! Took him online and really enjoyed his class. He has a great sense of humor. Class took A LOT of effort! Only recommend the online class for serious disciplined students! 2 DB a week, weekly quizzes, and one proctored test out of 3. 2 essays as well. Overall I did well with plenty of extra credit!

Mr Ellis is the best teacher this school has. He had a few family emergency during the semester causing him to be late, but I would recomend him to any students. good lectures, likes to tell jokes,especially after I would bring him a candy bar every day.

I took the online Intro to Sociology class with Walt (as he demands you call him) It was the EASIEST A i ever recieved. I got so much extra credit that I didn't even have to take the final. He's organized, passionate, and he loves what he does. He cares about his students. He wants everyone to learn and get an A. I highly recommend him.

Fantastic professor and easy class. Discussion groups are so much fun but some students ruin it by being lazy. Test are easy, you get 2 attempts if you meet the requirement the first time. Wish he taught more! Walt is very helpful and loves what he does. One of the best teachers on campus. If you fail, well, your probably an idiot.

Although I have 103% in this class it wasn't easy getting there! I put in a lot of time and effort into this class. If you are taking this as an online course thinking you can do it at your leisure you are wrong! You are required to sign into the class pretty much daily and I stay up very late to get stuff done. Tons of work!!!

I took his class for Marriage and Family. At first, I was going to drop it because I wasn't sure if it'd be interesting, but I'm glad I stuck around. He gives all students the benefit of the doubt, he cares if you're passing, and he's fun! All you have to do is attend class, listen, take some notes, and participate. HE IS GREAT. TAKE HIM! :D

Took online course, intro. to sociology. This professor is a blast! His courses are a breeze; however, they are much involved. Don't think you can check the class once a week; it's nothing like that. Mandatory attendance and checking on the class. He is fair, honest, and is there to make you learn about Sociology -- always helpful!

This is the best professor I ever had. I took the hybrid intro to sociology. As long as you do all the assignments you will pass with flying colors. There is a gordan rule paper but it's only 500 words and it's a pass or fail grade (you did it or you didnt). He keeps lectures interesting and if you dont take his class your missing out!!!!

One of my favorite professors! Great person over all. He's very helpful. But you have to study from the book to pass the exams. Whatever he writes on the board will be on the exams also. I recommend him!

Prof. Walt is a great professor. Thiwas a hybrid class. One day a week and its an interesting lecture. U ill have fun and learn in this class. Just do your posts and show up to class. One Saturady volunteer day rerquired and a paper in the end. Extra credit ops.

His class is quite simple and easy. Just make sure you do all the work every week, if you fall behind 2 discussions, no chance of an A. His videos are obnoxious but luckily there are only a few of those. Easy class to take if your on top of your work.

best online course ever! It is so organized. From day one, Mr Ellis made sure we understood and knew EVERYTHING that was expected. All he asks for is for us to do an online discussion and quiz each week because he wants us to be engaged. He video lectured like we were in the room to help us feel important. He's like Si Robertson from duck dynasty but much smarter! Pretty easy class, 4 discussion posts a week and they only have to be 25 words, takes all of 5 min to complete. 1 test at the end of the week, no end of course project! I've taken alot of online classes and this has probably been the best one

This was an awesome class. It was not your conventional online course. It was much more involved than a normal online class. I learned a lot from this class. Walt is a great teacher and makes things crystal clear.

He is very interesting, makes his lectures compelling to watch, his tests and quiz come from both lectures and textbook. Would love to take any of his classes.

My first hybrid course and I loved it. Met once a week, tests and quizzes online. Ellis is a very thorough teacher and makes sure the students are prepared for the tests. Very friendly and funny. My only complaint is that the time allotted for tests/quizzes online cuts it a bit close, ~ 1 min per question. Learn to take tests fast.

I would say this Professor is pretty laid back and funny. Gives you plenty of extra credit.I didn't like reading from the book so much, because I learn best in person with visuals. Test&Quizzes online. Didn't like a lot of the questions, a lot of them seemed opinion based. Not my favorite class, but not a stressful one over all.

He reiterates several times what you need to do to pass, all you have to do is do the work and you'll make the grade. Walt is awesome! Loved his class!! Took his online class over the summer and had no issues with him. He is extremely understanding and punctual. In the middle of the semester I had a family emergency come up, I emailed him what was going on, provided proof, he gave me the week off and allowed me to make up assignments on my time with no problems!!

Prof. Ellis has to be one of the best teachers I have ever taken. He honestly brings the classroom to your house by his lectures. He clearly explains everything, and makes it a fun learning process. I hope I can have a class with him again in the future. If you have the opportunity to take him, TAKE HIM! You'll learn a lot in a fun way.

He was very structured . Extremely clear expectations of what is needed each week. you do need to read the book as that is what most of the tests are about. video lectures are a little dated, but very entertaining.

Professor Ellis is an amazing professor and he is by far my favorite so far! I never knew I would like Sociology and I am eager to see what's next each week. If you just read, watch the lectures and fully participate you will pass with flying colors. Mr. Ellis has a wonderful personality that just keeps you laughing and wanting to come back!

This guy is amazing, do the extra credit it's easy! There's a test at the end of every week on the materials that you've read and from his video lectures. As long as you participate you'll pass with an A! I would totally take this class again.

Professor Ellis' course was my first online course and I really enjoyed his videos and PPTs. His tests follows the book and his lectures. Read the text, listen to the videos and follows the PPTs and you will do great.

On line course, my grade was determined by discussions and quizzes. Be prepared to read, the book is actually interesting. The discussions were related to modern society. Powerpoint's and lectors were present.

Professor Ellis is fantastic! His lectures are great, and you HAVE to pay attention to the lectures above all else for the tests. Discussions are good, and he really pays attention to the content, so thoughtful responses are a must. His expectations and instructions are clear, and he really enjoys his work and wants you to understand and succeed.

I took his online class and it was pretty easy. The class mainly consist of discussion and tests. He gives some extra credit opportunities as well.

He made the subject interesting and allowed for different opinions to be expressed. He was helpful and very fair.

Professor Ellis is hilarious. If you want to take an online professor I would highly recomend him. He makes his lectures funny and tries to be as interactive as he possibly can be. His homework was all discussion based and you were graded for just participating it. I would highly suggest taking him for sociology and plan to take him in the future.

SUPER EASY! online class. discussions every week. no midterm or final, just weekly quizzes that are only 25 questions, recommend just watching video lectures. i never read book, only to get answer for quiz. I still ended up with an A.

Very animated video lectures, one of the few Professors that provides video lectures for online classes. He hits the main topics that are on the quizzes so you'll remember the course matter and pass. No exam and the weekly discussions only have to be 50 words and you respond to at least 3 different questions so coming up with subject matter is easy

Mr. Ellis is a great teacher who really tries to make learning fun. He has weekly quizzes from power points, lectures, and the textbook. He also has discussion boards that are a minimum of 50 words. In addition, he offers extra credit and is really engaged in wanting you to learn. I definitely recommend him out of every sociology teacher.

Not sure why he would have a bad review, because he is amazing! For an online class he really engages and speaks to students as a class. Discussions count for the Gordon Rule and they are a breeze. Tests come from given lecture videos and power points. Videos are funny! He cares about togetherness of the class&offers a lot of extra credit points!

Online: Mr. Ellis has simple rules to follow. If you follow them, you will pass. Discussions: Tues-Thurs. and Fri-Sun. Watch his "classroom" videos. Take the test (Tests are open from Monday-Sunday at midnight, a test every week. 25 questions). 25 words in discussions, post within 12 hrs of one another. It's not rocket science. He's awesome!!

Took this class during summer online, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! graded only on tests and discussions, very clear about his grading! Follow his rules & you're sure to pass with an A! There are 2 discussions every week but they are super easy!! Tests are very easy as well and are allowed 2 tries! Must use the textbook & look at the lectures!

Mr. Ellis' Sociology class was the first one I've ever taken online. I LOVED it! I honestly was a little sad when it ended. His instructions and rules for the class are very clear cut. Just follow them and you will pass. All tests are allotted two attempts. I wish I would have taken him for Psychology as well. His lectures are also very funny!

His class was pretty straight forward. Read the book, listen to the lecture or the power point and you will pass the the test. Reply to the discussion board posts and you pass the class. There was nothing else to it. His lectures were okay, he trys to make them funny with his dry jokes but he is an okay professor. Would I take him again? Maybe.

I completed the Intro to Sociology class online in an accelerated course (6 weeks). It was a lot of reading and participation, but I enjoyed the class overall. The professor is great, he pushes you to interact with each other through discussions. I would have enjoyed this class at a campus with this professor.

EXCELLENT professor!! I absolutely LOVED his class. This was my first online class and now, not a single professor compares. He is very clear what is expected and how your discussions (Gordon Rule) need to be. His lectures are HILARIOUS!! This is not just an easy A, you need to work for your grade.

I took this class online. I did it for dual enrollment as a high school sophomore, so I mean it when I say this class is an easy A as long as you remember to do your discussion and tests on time. We had chapter(s) tests on Sundays where the questions were straight forward. The discussions were pretty fun, too.

This class was really fun and straightforward. The lectures had a powerpoint that went with it. The discussions were scheduled so was participation is important. Overall a great, inspiring teacher!

This class is not hard at all as there was only a discussion and quiz every week. Please take him easy A.

His course material is very easy to keep up with and he updates you weekly with what you should be working on. The test are easy to pass as long as you pay attention to the lectures. Discussions are a must so just be prepared to interact weekly, minimum of 4 times a week. Very easy going professor. Extra credit is also always thrown in.

6 week online summer class which was super easy to get an A. Everyone says that you need to read the textbook and watch his lecture videos but I promise you, I never did any of those. 2 discussions per week and also 2 tests per week that are 25 questions (you can find all answers on google)

Walt, as he likes to be called, is a funny teacher. He really knows his stuff and doesn't make the class unnecessarily difficult. He WANTS YOU TO PASS. You just have to try. He's not one of those teachers thats tough and makes you life hell. He wants to have fun as long as you at least show up to class and try.

Professor Ellis makes sure that students are getting all the information they need and is more focused on teaching a subject he seems passionate about than expecting complete memorization of everything. A simple and consistent schedule of discussion boards and easy tests based on video lectures and textbook reading makes up the entire course.

Professor Ellis was great! Two exams every week but if you watch the lectures, you shouldn't have a problem.

Professor Ellis is the BEST!!! Great Class! In the regular semesters (Fall&Spring), there is only 1 exam a week (NOT 2) (only Summer 6/week classes have 2 exams a week) Only 2 discussion boards each week. ---- No essays :) The course is structured really well and easy to follow. Topics are always interesting. Great professor!

Follow the rubric and guidelines for the discussions and you'll get an A. Don't give extremely short answers and answers that conflict with FACTS that are given in the lectures & book. Watch the lectures - usually 25min long. They are interesting and you'll definitely find questions on the test that are based off them.

Assignments consisted of a weekly discussion post and an exam each week (exam can be taken twice if you get 16 right the first try and tells you which questions you got wrong). All exam answers can be found in the powerpoint and lectures (powerpoint normally reflects the lecture!!). Super easy class highly recommend!! FG:102.3%

Professor Ellis makes this class super easy. With weekly exams that are based on the lectures and textbook, plus just a few discussion posts, the workload is manageable. I found unstuck study AI and the class resources to be really helpful for study prep.

I loved Mr. Ellis, he was such a great professor. I took this course through dual enrollment so it was online, he recorded lectures and explained everything so good. He also has such a great vibe and very easy assignments. One lecture and powerpoint to look over weekly, then one discussion and 1 quiz that you can take 2 times if you got a 16 up.
