VERY VERY VERY HARD EXAMS
i took him for evolution.... horrible guy... loves to hear himself talk and make you feel dumb! wont answer questions without making you feel stupid for asking them
I don't know why everyone harps about how hard he is. Just copy his notes word for word and it's straight from that. You will fail if you don't go to class. His tests are a different format, but I think it's the most fair format. It's multiple choice where you select as many choices as you feel are right. Allows for a lot of partial credit.
You read a book in his class and it discusses how usually good researchers don't make good teachers. Walter Hoeh is a prime example of that.
Be prepared to write. His notes are simply overheads covered in text margin to margin. Tests make you think and most are figures from the book, so know all of the charts and graphs from the assigned reading.
Super cool and even funny, makes good power points. Other people think he is hard, but I'm having no problem. You just have to actually try.
Brace your self your in for along ride, I found PowerPoint hard to read often the text is so small you cant even read them. He dose not use blackboard so is handouts are 6 per page and you need a magnifinglass to read them. Lots of homework assignments witch there answer booklet for but dose not show how to work problems (the worthless piece cost 5
There is hardly a word to describe how awful of a professor this guy is. Tests are ridiculous, as is the homework. Has to curve grades so much its absurd. Throughout the year would ask if we learned stuff as freshmen, which we obviously didn't because it is an advanced genetics course. Kind of a jerk too. Stay far and clear, this prof is awful.
This guy is not as bad as most of his ratings reflect. He can be a bit scattered at times, but he basically spells out what the tests are going to be over. Come to class, follow along with his notes, and look at at the diagrams and chapter questions from the books - they will be on the tests! Overall nice guy who wants to help his students.
Life on planet earth with Hoeh is pretty simple. I didn't go to class very often (averaged prob 1.5x a week, for a MWF class) and Im expecting a B. Emails you the lectures and articles for biweekly discussions lectures, at which he takes attendance. So, go to those. You'll get credit for being there. Otherwise, its nothing exciting, but it's simple
Decent teacher. He emails all the lectures before class. There are discussion days with quizzes every once in a while, but it isn't hard. Always look at the figures and chapter review questions in the book for tests. They are always on tests. Overall, this class is easy.
If you don't get an A in life on planet earth, then shame on you. He emails you the lectures, so the only time you really need to go to class is for tests and discussion days. Only tricky thing is make sure you do the end of the chapter reviews in the textbook. He puts those questions on tests. Other than that, this class is a piece of cake.
Attend all classes, he does not believe in using Vista. Copy all notes, read all papers he sends you (e-mail), will need to read book (pigliucci) for first exam (he uses pictures from the book on exam). make your own study guides. he will not have any answers to your questions. (pg 268 #4 about teaching methods is the complete opposite of how he is
Horrible professor. Tests are nothing like he says they are and are very very hard. His answer for everything was I don't know. Stay away if you want to protect your GPA
I would highly recommend NOT taking this teacher. I am a 3.7 student getting a low C. For the first exam you have to read an entire novel. He uses a lot of pictures from the book for exam ?'s. Make sure you ca write fast because he doesn't post notes which are just annoying margin to margin outlines. Exam format is annoying and ?'s are tricky.
omg. worst professor on the face of the earth. test are extremely tricky so studying is useless. ive never got a c before!!! dr hoeh is pompous, arrogant and extremely rude. i would rather jump infront of a bus and live on life support instead of taking a class with him
He is a more difficult teacher, but he is straightforward in what he expects and what you need to know. His tests are worded tricky, and difficult. If you actually study there should be no reason to fail though. He is not the most approachable and can come off as arrogant. He is very knowledgeable about the topics he teaches however.
very into what he teaches, however he is extremly rude and talks down to everyone. his tests are not what he tells you. you need to read the entire book even though he says you dont need too just to pass the tests
He really isn't a difficult instructor, and Human Biology is not a difficult class. His test are usually about 30 questions, multiple choice. Be warned that he is incredibly arrogant and rude, so I do not really suggest going to his office hours, but you could always go to SI. There are two papers due at the end of the semester which are very easy.
Worst professor I've had at KSU so far. Had him for Life on planet Earth. His lectures were always off topic and test material was not covered in class. We had in-class quizzes over 50 page articles often, and when students wouldn't participate in dicussion, he would give everyone F's for the quiz for that day. AVOID
The class itself is not difficult. He, however, is an awful professor. Rude, disrespectful, and rambles on and on about useless information. Very arrogant and won't answer a question without making you feel stupid for asking it. AVOID!!!
Human Biology is not a difficult topic, but if i would not have had prior knowledge I would've of done horrible. He's disrespectful and unapproachable. Avoid at all costs! I would even recommend online biology instead to avoid this horrible professor.
Super easy course, tests are easy for the most part. You just have to get over him ranting about how you'll fail if you don't you this or that. He can get annoying and asks for questions then pretty much put you down for asking. Make this professor your 2nd to last choice.
He is a very intense professor. He may seem unapproachable, but has no problem answering questions and explaining things during office hours. If you read the book, go to class, and ask questions, you'll do fine. Don't be afraid to speak up!
The class is not hard if you go and get the clicker points. He is just rude and opinionated. I would take this class with another prof. if I was you.
Prof Hoeh is an alright guy. He really bashes high school science and student's educational backgrounds. My prior education is not my fault. He gives pop clicker quizzes so go to class. He's a huge stickler on avoiding cheating. He goes off on tangents a lot and then doesn't get through all of the material. Don't take him if you can avoid it.
Professor was extremely neurotic. He was very distracting when taking exams. But he IS passionate about his field of study, and THAT I can appreciate. He did change my mind about eating a lot of meat and I am now attempting vegetarianism. Overall, I am satisfied with the course. He just needs to buy a new personality.
Dr. Hoeh is a very knowledgeable professor. If you attend every lecture, take good notes, and go to SI, you will receive an A in the class. Don't be afraid to go to office hours for help. He loves when people take the time to ask for help outside of class, and he will help you in any way possible.
Evolution is an intense course & an upper division course as well. You will not be handed the answers, Dr. Hoeh expects you to READ, STUDY, and COMPREHEND the material. If you come to all the lectures, take good notes, use the textbook questions he sends, and read the PDF's he emails you will do fine! He is also helpful in office hours!!!
I'm not one who particularly likes science but I really enjoyed this class! Dr Hoeh is a little odd but very passionate about what he teaches and is very helpful. You only need the text book in this class for the practice questions at the end of each chapter because some of them are on the test! It's a pretty easy class but you will need to study.
VERY passionate about his field. very Helpful if you go to office hours, interesting guy to talk to. go to class-> surprise clicker quizzes. exams (4) over power points he posts online and occasional reading assignments. 10% of exams come from chapter review in textbook. HATES cheating. super easy if you go to class and review PowerPoints.
50% of his lectures, which he says "every word I say is important", are ramblings that just repeat one, insignificant thing as if he's just trying to fill time. His tests are slightly confusing and he seems to not be able to understand what students are asking when they ask him questions in class.
Pros: passionate and knowledgeable cons: opinionated, can be defensive when asking a question, usually doesn't answer the question you have asked, half way through semester randomly teaches about what he specializes in and expects you to know it. Tests are in a format I can't even begin to explain but not one I recommend taking if you have anxiety
Basically, if you don't pass this class, it's your own fault. You definitely have to work for an A, but if you show up for class and look over the notes that he SENDS everyone, you should pass. He has clicker quizes sometimes, and they're usually on material he just covered less than an hour beforehand. He's VERY passionate about what he teaches.
He's very fast pace
Human Biology is not a hard class, but I suggest that you take it with a different professor. If you miss a clicker quiz you are out of luck, he won't let you make it up. He his very passionate about his field of study but his lectures are dry and he's not very good at answering questions.
I have never had a teacher that treats students more disrespectfully. He demands you ask questions and when someone does he treats them like they are stupid or flat out won't answer. Lectures often have nothing to do with course. Clicker quizzes are random and it seems like he seeks to trick students. Textbook is only used for papers at the end.
He didn't have a good attitude at all, not very understanding. He was very passionate about science but just liked to talk. He does NOT let you make up clicker quizzes so make sure you are in class. Only needed the textbook to do the papers at the end. There are 4 exams and 1 final that is all multiple choice. I wouldn't take another class with him
The tests are pretty back to back and requires you to know a lot of information. Everything that Is on the test is pretty much in his lecture(powerpoint). He is very challenging because he requires so much. Need textbooks for end of the semester papers but as long as you do the required info you'll get a A on the papers. Pretty tough class.
I would definatly recommend him if biology isn't your thing;he checks for questions frequently throughout lectures and will even answer a few last-minute questions before the exam. Having a clicker is VERY important as that is how he keeps atteendence and gives quizzes. He does upload the lecture notes. He is very passionate about science
Get ready to get yelled at if you don't ask questions. He asks questions like "Who learned this is in high school?" and when no one raises their hand, He says stupid stuff like "This is what's wrong with education in America!" It's basically a health class. None of the lectures have to do with Bio. He will make you feel stupid.
I've always done really well in biology but this class was impossible for me. There is SO much information you are expected to remember, he just skims over everything quickly and then asks really specific questions on tests. He tells you to "ask questions" but gets mad if you do and it's somewhere in the book. Expects you to be as passionate as him
He seems real passionate about biology and he expects all of his students to be just as passionate as him. Lectures are long and boring. He will tell you to ask questions and then get mad when you ask. He talks down to the students who do not quite understand the material. Overall, he cares about the students but has a bit of an attitude.
Not a good professor for those with anxiety. Yells at the class and makes you feel bad about things you didn't even do. Talks throughout clicker quizzes making it hard to focus and read questions thoroughly. Makes you feel stupid when you get answers wrong. Also, essay assignment is solely based on layout (margins), not content or thoughts.
He's very passionate about what he lectures about in LOPE. Lots and lots of yelling about the environment and food. He will also lecture the whole class on some peoples bad tests scores. But the tests and clicker quizzes were a breeze. It's pretty easy to pass.
He's not the nicest guy I have ever met in my life. I think he's a smart man and doesn't understand how to break things down, instead, basically just reads from the slides. The only helpful thing is the clicker quizzes which is why attendance is mandatory. He does round up the test average to 70% because we usually do worse than that(60s).
Dr. Hoeh is very passionate about what he teaches. If you study for the exams and attend class, you will do just fine. He can be intimidating at first, but he encourages his students to ask questions.
He didn't lecture about any we were learning, he only talked about how the food companies are trying to kill us and how were all going to die because we eat processed foods. Hes very passionate about everything except human biology. he gets distracted by questions. I went over the PowerPoints and basically taught myself the whole semester.
do not take this class with him if you can avoid him what ever it takes terrible teacher even if you go to all of his classes and study you prob still won't get the grade u want cuz he likes to ask questions about things he didn't even teach worst teacher I have had to date.
Save yourself
He is very passionate about what he's talking about but most of the time in Human Biology he ranted about nutrition. I studied for hours for every test and it still was always difficult.
Stay far away from this professor. He is very rude to his students. He asks if anyone has questions, but doesn't listen to them if he does not agree. His exams are really difficult and attendance is mandatory for clicker points.
Attendance is absolutely mandatory, clicker points every day, some times clicker quizzes at the end of a lesson. The tests are extremely hard, a lot of info is from discussions in class or the slides/quizzes. Have two papers to do at the end of the semester. Pretty nice guy, just a hard class, be ready for 50minute lectures every day.
Unless you're good at listening and writing fast, this class is hard. He zooms through everything, and he rants about other things (education/govt/sugar) more than bio. He also yells at you if you don't understand something. You end up learning more outside of class than in. Lots of clicker points, though.
Challenging course. Not designed for you to copy the notes during the lecture - Listen and copy the online notes later. Participate in discussions. Ask for your test answers and use those to study. Attendance is def. mandatory. He does discuss politics' role in science because that is relevant. Not an easy A but I learned a lot.
The short and sweet for taking this class is this. The lecture notes are everything. He says that anything he says can show up on test, but he rarely deviates from the notes. Don't act out especially during tests, he doesn't tolerate it at all. If you can handle his eccentric behavior you will walk away with some good life info about healthy living.
Horrible. Dude is a complete psycho. He just zooms through his slides and goes on crazy rants about society and how our education system is failing us. Demands you ask questions but makes you feel stupid when you do. I understand he wants you to do well but there are much better ways to help people. Always walked out of his class feeling depressed
TERRIBLE. First semester back after 2 years and I almost quit because of this class. He goes off on long rants about the education system and politics. Reads right from slides, and goes really fast. Yells at everyone for not taking notes when everything is uploaded online. Calls out and embarrasses students, lectures are long and boring.
Students usually cannot finish asking questions before he cuts them off. There are two 50 point papers due at the end of the semester, if you don't have 3(yes 3) staples in them, you a ZERO on BOTH. He often talks about his tenure. Some exam questions aren't from the notes or books, just stuff he happens to say in class. 5 exams & 0 study guides.
Proffesor Hoeh is very passionate about the material for LOPE and knows it very well. He always asks for questions and ensures he answers them. He does soapbox about politics and other things. Let him get back on topic and things will be back on track. He provides the lecture slides and test to study from. Be respectful and you wont have an issue
He is an awful professor. He often talks down to students, cuts students off and goes on and on about politics (very very left thinking) . He begs for students to ask questions in class and then cuts them off and makes them feel dumb. Often gives pop quizzes when he thinks we don't participate enough. Overly particular on test days.
Very insulting to students during lecture and goes very fast through the PowerPoints. Please do yourself a favor and take any science class with someone else. You won't learn very much from him, you'll have to teach yourself.
He is an okay prof. Every class he goes on a rant (most of the time not related to the topic). Class is not that difficult if you study for the exams. I only used the textbook to study out of for the exams: but he does draw questions from the practice quiz's in the book that he puts on the tests. He goes through the ppts really quickly in class
worst professor ive ever had. he demands students ask question and cuts them off when they do. he rants about politics, nutrition, and how our education system is messed up; anything other than the actual topic of LOPE. goes really fast through lectures-be prepared to teach yourself. DO NOT TAKE.
Dr. Hoeh is a very interesting teacher. He is very passionate about his subject and wants everyone to learn. I don't believe he is very rude I think he just comes off that way. He is very willing to help students and his tests are easy if you study. I did not have to teach myself anything. Not a hard class if you are respectful and study.
Passionate about he teaches but exams are very hard. Attendance is checked at the end of every class and sometimes there will be pop quizzes out of no where. Must read the book for exams but not all of the questions are from the book, mostly just from extra lecture notes he says in class.
For one, hes tenured. If that isnt enough to scare you off, I hope you like a man who enjoys hearing his own voice and has overdosed on redpills (side effects include having no sympathy towards students), and one who makes fun of students for not doing as well as hed like on his clicker quizzes. Also never directly answers students questions.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. Goes too fast during lectures and rants off topic about the government and how they lie to us. He is passionate about the topic so I'll give him that. Class is very difficult especially for an intro to biology class. I recommend taking a different class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! This professor is the meanest man I have ever met, he made a girl in my class cry because he yelled at her so hard for not stapling her papers together, and she stapled them together separately. He flies through the lecture slides and then pushes people to ask questions and then when someone does he screams at you.
Doesnt tech material, mostly world views
This might of well have been a political class the way he treated it. He often went off on tangents of shaming everyone that lived differently than him and then put questions on the tests about said tangents. Also don't even think of taking tech into his room. If your phone went off because your mother was dying and you'd be dropped a letter grade.
He likes participation
Pos(+) No Homework free points with clicker quiz (common sense ?'s) Neg No laptops Ranty. Can get repetitive and boring specially about nutrition Speeds through topics ( normally the topics that are harder to understand on tests) Attendance is mandatory Tips careful: he does pop quizes at the end of chapters make note cards; vocab based tests
Dr. Hoeh cares more about forcing you to enjoy the information than he does actually making it enjoyable. His lectures are boring, and he takes more time explaining how to be vegan than actually teaching biology.
he requires you buy an expensive clicker just to keep attendance and for a few quizzes. he also took 25 points off my final papers because my margins were .2 too big. He spends class time preaching his beliefs rather than teaching material. Its an easy class but hes so annoying its not even worth it, I would have rather taken a harder course.
LOPE is an easy class if he didn't get off topic and yell at you to go vegan. The Professor is very heavy on his ideology and gets mad when no ones asks questions. No one will ask questions because he will in turn make someone feel stupid or take their question and go off topic. Way too many slides for notes and wants required readings. Not worth.
Grade is comprised of 4 test, a final, pop quizzes, and papers. The text book is required to read and the tests are vocab heavy. He's very preachy and rambles about the government and the food industry.
He's extremely dedicated and most of the time too dedicated and will yell his opinions to his students. If you ask a question it is answered in a way to make you feel dumb and them will lead into a 20 min lecture on the topic. His lectures are so dry and bad that a lot of the tests we took had to be curved because so many people failed.
makes you feel inadequate if you arent a STEM major. Tests are hard but most of the questions are pulled from the book or clicker pop quizzes. I've wasted 100s of sheets of paper printing notes from blackboard just to keep up during lectures bc he goes so fast through the slides. very anti-technology
He could be a very great professor, but I believe he is too passionate about things not related to the course material we need to know. He goes off on tangents about doing on a plant based diet ever class. Hardly ever used the book except to look for the questions for the two papers at end of semester. Tests were difficult.
Ok professor, test are tough and if you dont come to class you wont pass.
I recommend getting a tutor or a study group for his class. he isn't the WORST prof, but certainly not the best. he talks a lot about health and sustainability, I definitely learned in his class but he strays away from the actual course content a lot and does his own thing. Go in with an open mind.
He tends to go on tangents a lot, and isnt exactly the most understandable (he put 5+ essay requirements in one sentence) but if you go in with an open mind, you really learn a lot and hes an engaging professor to take class with. Do be prepared to go over the lecture on your own, because you cant keep up in class.
He lowered my grade by ten percent because of an essay at the end of the semester had "inappropriate margins" even though I did the exact margins he asked for. Many other people had the same problem with their grades being lowered because of this, 1 day before the final. He is a heavy lecturer and did not respect his students at all.
Expect to reread his lectures & textbook. He went off on tangents, rushed through the lecture, & expected us to memorize everything (no sg). I got consistent C's after curves (A/B student); going to class & the papers were my saving graces. The papers have specific instructions, read carefully. GO TO CLASS, random clicker quizzes. Must work hard.
If you are caught with your phone/laptop out, your final grade will be dropped a whole letter. He posts the lectures ahead of time for you to print to take notes on in class, but bc of this he speeds through the lectures and they are like 40 pages long. you must have a clicker for attendance. very passionate about bio. reading the book really helps
Hoeh is an unnecessarily difficult person. Fails to test over vital information and instead focuses on hyper-detailed information, disconnected from the larger concepts of the class. The final paper, the only assignment worth as much as a test, was ridiculously graded on the formatting of the paper, not content. Would advise never taking his class
Please do yourself a favor and not take this course with this professor. He makes tests early morning where you have 10 minutes to access it no matter if your laptop breaks, have wifi issues or any other malfunctions if you do not open the test within the 10 minute window, that a 0 then according to him. Along with that, the most terrible grader.
This professor gave everyone a chance to do extra credit & it was worth 100 points all or nothing & that would've given me a passing grade, and I know my paper was perfect, I had my writing professor check it & the writing commons and it was good to go. He didn't even look at it because it "looked like" the margins weren't 1 inch.
DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES IF YOU HAVE A VERY BUSY SCHEDULE. He only allowed us to take quizzes/exams from 5am-12 pm on Tuesdays. If you had classes from 7 am-12 pm, better wake up at 5! Better hope you have perfect wifi as well because if your wifi goes out, he won't help you.
This professor gives zero feedback. The one written assignment at the end of the semester worth 100 points, I got 50/100 with no feedback about what I did wrong, though from previous comments about this professor, I imagine it had to do with the margins when printed. If you take this class, quizlet will be your best friend.
His lectures are awful. He gives you MAYBE 15 seconds to write down full slides (NOT typed), and wants you to take the notes 3 times. He gives too much content for a little amount of time. His textbook was sold out, but you'll barely need it. He requires clickers for attendance and quizzes (which are $60). His teaching methods are VERY dated.
I took this class as a part of my kent core. it was labeled as a basic biology course by my advisor, and I expected it to be easy. This class was easily the hardest class I have taken yet. No laptops allowed, random quizzes all the time. Assignments are not explained thoroughly, yet he grades them strictly. 10/10 would not recommend.
Walter is old school. The course is taught through powerpoint slides which is outrageous. He speeds through them very quickly and technology is banned from his classroom. A $60 clicker is required because there a multiple clicker quizzes throughout the week. There is no homework and the course is based off of 5 exams which is your grade.
He is very lecture heavy, goes off topic very frequently, doesn't give good answers to anything. He goes through slides very quickly, and you have to buy a $60 clicker to get points.
This is the worst and most stressful class I have ever taken. His definition of teaching is speed reading the powerpoint slides. His tests are so unbelievably hard for no reason as the content presented in class is the same thing I learned in freshman biology. You also have to buy a $60 clicker to take quizzes and it rarely works.
I attended exactly one meeting of this class before making the wise decision to get out while I could. LOPE is a kentcore elective, but he treated it like a major weeding course. He expects you to buy expensive outdated tech to participate. He also fails to provide reasonable accommodation unless SAS forces his hand. This is insane for a gen-ed.
Dr. Hoeh is a very tough grader, however if you are a good student, he will help you.
In order to do well, you have to study so much for the tests.
Mandatory attendance, surprise pop quizzes with trick questions, exams that test your limits of studying as a student. The class is ran like a military boot camp when in reality it is a basic biology class like that of high school. Easily the hardest course I have ever taken just to reach one of Kent core's required credits.
He's a decent person but two things he does horribly, those clicker quizzes in which he forces you to use outdated technology for points and gets mad at YOU if the old tech doesnt work well. Also when you take the clicker quizzes he rushes really quick and you might miss points just cause you weren't quick enough. And the papers assignment...
Dr. Hoeh makes his classes near impossible. This man keeps me up at night and if he didn't curve his exams everyone would fail.
He requires you to read lots of articles outside of class and then puts questions about them on exams even of it had nothing to do with class. I had him for life on planet earth but he taught a class on what foods we should eat and how the government and education system are failing us. Avoid his class if possible.
His lessons are darn near possible to keep up with. He gives so many external readings and clicker quizzes. You'll be given 4 exams throughout the semester NOT including the final. This was one of my harder classes and it's because there is just so much that he expects us to learn. Definitely wouldn't take it again.
-PLEASE READ THE BOOK BEFORE HE STARTS LECTURES!! READ THE CHAPTER AND THEN ANSWER THE MCQ'S AT THE END, THEN MAKE A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUIZLET! He puts a lot of those questions onto the exam. also make hand written notecards, vocab heavy, best way to learn it -also, if you put the work in and study, you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit at the end
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He will make you buy a 90 dollar clicker, is EXTREMLEY rude to students and treats them with no respect, and is veryyy test heavy with difficult tests. He will often go through 3 powerpoint presentations within one class and he barely covers the information and then you are expected to know it all for the next test.
He was very passionate about the earth and almost all of the exams were easy to pass with minimal studying
He reads off the slides word for word. The tests really aren't that bad as long as you study for them a couple days in advance. He gave our class extra credit which helped me get an A but without the extra credit I probably would have gotten a high B with just my test scores. Not a bad class just very boring. Make sure you go to class everyday!
Favorite professor I've had. Students didn't really favor him, I think bc we weren't allowed on our phones in class. But in my opinion, it was for our own good. Phones can be a distraction and the material Professor Hoeh taught was life changing for me. For students who are passionate about their health, you will appreciate Professor Hoeh.
Half his lecture was him going on tangents about what you shouldn't eat (Meat, sugar, canned things, etc.) I've been recovering from an issue with disordered eating and these lectures made it worse. he also read slides as fast as humanly possible and was demeaning. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
This man does not teach. Reads like one sentence off slides and ping pongs onto a completely different topic. overall impossible lectures and just a horrible professor. worst class i've taken.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN GET OUT OF IT DO IT!
This man speedruns his lectures at light speed and acts like you're supposed to know all of it without going back to it later. He was also quite rude to students. He got upset with me because my clicker was having technical difficulties (I was as close as possible to the front, just like he recommended) and if he didn't curve, nobody would pass.
I suggest if you can, get OUT of this class. Extreme amounts of reading (including chapters and external readings he assigns that show up on exams) and all slide shows at rapid speed. If he would have never curved our exams we all would have failed.I suggest answering the end of chapter questions and making a quizlet. goodluck to you.
TBH I really have nothing to say about Dr. Hoeh, because I've literally never seen him. The lab is taught and graded by his TA's, and I've never heared a lecture from him nor has he ever graded any of the assignments, nor would I be surprised if he isn't even the one who made the assignments. The class however is easy, just do the bare minimum
Points for attendance, showing up to the lectures and paying attention makes a big difference. Most test questions on exams come from slides. Lots of reading in textbook, not required but helped me understand concepts and vocabulary. Tests can have lots of material, but as long as you study the tests aren't bad. Sometimes sassy with students
This professor was really bad. I had him for HUMAN BIOLOGY but the only thing he taught us about were his views on the government and how we should eat better food as a society. I hardly learned a thing about biology because his lectures were so politically charged and aside from that, he just read off of his extremely wordy slides.
Professor Hoeh teaches this core class like it's the most important class you will ever take. I shouldn't be studying more for this than a major class. He gets mad when people don't participate, but ALSO gets annoyed when people don't participate the way he deems necessary. He lacks perspective on the average student.
This professor is consistently disrespectful towards students. He often speaks to us as if we're incompetent, yet gets frustrated when students don't ask questions. Perhaps it's because we don't want to be cut off mid-sentence. No one in this class has been rude or behaved in a way that warrants the treatment we've received from him.
This professor is like a GPS that constantly recalculates but doesn't help you get to your destination. He demands participation, then cuts you off or gives condescending responses. His lectures are disjointed, and when you ask for help, he just points to the syllabus instead of offering guidance. A frustrating experience. Very rude professor.
This professor talks about extremely controversial topics including voting, American school systems, beliefs on evolution, and caffeine killing you. I would not recommend him to anyone for he gets off topic lecturing the class on "not voting for billionaires" instead of focusing on the actual content of the class. He gives pop quizzes.
this professor is actually pretty terrible. i took the class not only because it was required, but his lectures are all politically motivated to reflect his radical left beliefs about how the public education system and govt is failing us. he makes many rude comments towards students and speaks to us in a condescending manner. extremely tough tests
This professor I took in fall 2024, and he was absolutely terrible. He yelled at me after I told him that I have SAS accommodations, and he told me that he doesn't have to help me with my academic accommodations in which it is required for him too. I had to withdrawal in this class in late October because I couldn't bear his attuite anymore.
I'll save you $1000 and sum this course up in a sentence: he's a liberal who believes in macro evolution and climate change
he teaches very politically- it seems like he believes everything related to science is somehow related politically. Random pop quizzes that will tank your grade if you do badly. go to class to get attendance points. hard 100 point exams.
This professor creates a frustrating and unproductive learning environment. His lectures are disorganized and heavily influenced by personal political views, often delivered in a condescending tone. He's dismissive toward students, demands participation but interrupts or belittles responses, and provides little meaningful support.
This prof is probably the worst one i've had so far. He barely talks about the curriculum, he focuses majority on his personal and political beliefs. He demands class participation from all student but then out right disrespects them in front of the whole classes and doesn't let them even finish their thought. 1000% avoid this professor if you can.
If I wanted to be this lost, I'd just use Apple Maps.
As I sat through his 4th lecture on the evils of Nutrigrain bars and Coca Cola, I closed my eyes for a moment and glimpsed my tuition dollars roasting over an open flame. In that moment, I knew that I had reached the apex of the Kent State experience. A great primer on why academics are becoming increasingly devalued in our society.
I feel as if my hard earned money to pay for this class has gone to waste. It is Day 2 and we have yet to even talking about anything to do with bio. Professor shouldn't be a teacher because he is educating political opinions. Argues with every student regardless if they agree or not.
This professor will be the reason I get gray hairs. Don't bother buying the book—it's completely useless because you never actually use it! Most lectures are spent talking about how phones are bad or sharing his political opinions. Then he'll skip parts of the lecture, leaving you to teach yourself because he wasted the class time. STAY FAR AWAY!
Very passionate about biology, pop quizzes and group projects.
Just don't take his class and your life will be very easy! :)
If you don't show up to class, you will fail. If you go to class and pay attention though you'll do just fine. About half your grade is just being there with plenty of extra credit. His classes are the easiest but he does round the class averages to a 75%. He can come off rude, but his classes isn't hard.
I wouldn't call him a bad teacher, it was clear he knew his line of work, I just wasn't a fan of the lack of respect he held for some of the students. Varying opinions were not welcome and extremely test/quiz heavy.
I admittedly have not been in his class in over a year, but I feel like I need to write a review so people don't make the same mistake as me. He once berated a classmate in front of everyone after they asked a question, made us pay $60 for a subscription to take ATTENDANCE and pop quizzes, and went on insane tangents. Please avoid at all costs.
