THE VERY BEST TEACHER i have ever had. and thats saying a lot since i HATE english. Mr. Lowe is the most helpful teacher. I looked forward to his class every day and learned so much. He had a way of making English fun. Instead of teaching English, he should be teaching other teachers how to teach! IF YOUR TAKING ENGLISH AT GRCC TAKE MR LOWE!
He sucks. If you disagree with him on something, and you write it in an essay, you will get it wrong and your grade will drop. YOu have to do worthless stuff like 10-Perfect Sentences. He sucks. He looks like Cornell Sanders. One of the hardest teachers I have ever had.
if you cant do 10 perfect sentences you need to go back to gradeschool. hes a great teacher, though he does kind of look like the cornell! thumbs up!
Horrible teacher. Unhelpful, BORING and his bow ties are THE WORST. Monotone all the time & not excited about teaching this class. He could have made it really fun, it's a great subject but I was bored out of my mind in this class.
It's Colonel Sanders, not cornell, and the Colonel is a homework nazi. He waited until the last 3 or weeks of the quarter to spring 4 major papers, a bigger research paper and a couple group projects on us. Quantity over quality. He would explain an assignment throroughly AFTER you turned it in and got a poor grade. Very vague before that. He sucks
What ar eyou talking about?? the 10 perfect sentences was hella fun!!! yer a wussy!!! he was a great teacher and YES!! I knew he looked like someone! colonel Sanders is it...good call
Great teacher.
I hated this class and professor, but I learned a lot. He was rude and pompous, but knew his info and how to get it across. 10 Perfect Sentences annoyed the hell out of me, but I'm much more meticulous about things now.

Very interesting class, although it seemed a little pointless at times. Walter was a strong teacher, whom know his subject well. At times he came off a little arogent, and irratating. The tie to an english class was a little blurry the quarter i took it?!?
Super Boring! Never gave good instructions, assignements always very unclear...would not take this teacher again!

He was difficult and hard to follow...couldnt tell what he really wanted from us...it was a frustrating class for most of the students involved
He's a very percise teacher. Very good and educational. Easy to learn from.
Good teacher, but not easy
Poindexter
nitpicky
He is funny and the class is fun, but after all, it is very hard class.
Not an easy teacher but I learned SO much about english. His teaching was very beneficial and I found him to be really funny.

He sure is a funny guy.. I laughed a lot in his class.. but the assignments are kinda hard, thats probably the only bad thing about it.. he's also very helpful!
He is the DEVIL!!!!
I hate him. He is so confusing, and he NEVER gives anyone a good grade. My classmates and I agreed halfway through the quarter that it would be impossible to get a 4.0 even if you were Shakespeare himself. Don't take him, he's terrible.
I learned a LOT of english from this class. Some people complain of the load, but he's fair with it. He's not an easy grader, but he's fair and not impossible. My only other comment is I got 4.0s on all my papers after this class.
If you want to dread going to eng class everyday take Mr. Lowe. He uses overly-sarcastic criticism and condesending rhetorical questions. You will be called on everyday in class and put on the spot. He will never tell you, but go around the room and ask questions without any encouragement. Once you answer, he confirms w/ are you sure? drop his clas
Pretty good teacher. Knows his stuff. Sure, he looks like the Colonel, sure his jokes are stale, but that's what's fun about him. Whatever class materials you lost/forgot somewhere, he'll get you another copy. He grades hard, but that's a good thing, ain't it? He expects a lot. Get to know him; he's a good guy, really.
His work is hard, he trys to be funny everyday but most of the time he's not, kind of confusing on how he grades since he says we would only get C grades if we do what he tells us to do on the paper and that if we want a higher grade we have to go above and beyond, useless in helping student, definitely not the best teacher
I didnt really like him at first. But he did teach me how to write better. He's not the best teacher, lots of students dont like him. But I thought he was, fine I learned plenty.
I didnt really like him at first. But he did teach me how to write better. He's not the best teacher, lots of students dont like him. But I thought he was, fine I learned plenty.
I think he's funny. And he's helpful when you're trying to understand whtat stuff is about. He reminds me of an oompa loompa.
He was an awesome teacher. I'll recommend this teacher to everyone who wants to take ENGL 110 class. In the beginning and during the quarter he seems really hard, but at the end, you'll see how improved you are. Also, he goes easy at the end of the quarter.
He not a good teacher at all.... He thinks he is a funny guy but he is not. He doesn't realize how hard some students work and nobody really does that well in his classes. He grades hard. Everything you learn in this class, is of no importance and will never be used in real life. It is a worthless class.
professor lowe could seem a bit stuck up at times, but he really just wants people to learn and not goof off in class. it isn't impossible to do well in his class, i got a 4.0 if you just follow his instructions carefully you'll get an A. make sure on the two paragraphs assignment to only use assigned readings.he was a good teacher so stop hatin'
Having taken his class, I don't understand why many people dislike Mr. Lowe. His class is very helpful and interesting. He really teaches you how to write. You get good grades as long as you meet the standards he asks. However, I do believe the atmosphere of the class is related to the quality of his class.(the more active classmates the better)
Mr. Lowe can be funny if you get his type of humor. He was very laid back, and usually clear on what he wanted...if you take him, be sure you like slasa!
He was better last quarter in ENG 110. He has been less than kind at times and even abrasive occasionally. His sarcastic humor does get old quick, and he thinks and often teaches non-linear, which is tough on some. To his credit, he is easier as the quarter goes on and he is good during presentations at reviving dead discusssions.
He's very interesting, in his presentations he dressed up as an arab and a wizzard. His writing assignments are very confusing, i felt like many people in the class were guessing about how they should do the assingments. He was an okay teacher.
If you want to learn to write in the perfect way (you know the perfect style that would NEVER be useful in the real world but only in "perfect english fantasy land") then take his class. Just be prepared to dread going every day and to have him embarrass you and make you feel like you truly are stupid. Nobody in the class got above B- on any paper
Mr. Lowe is a difficult teacher but as long as anyone follows the format. Getting an A is not difficult. he gives second chances and is one of the only teachers to teach fundementals and fanboys. Any inerested in a challenge his class is recommended.
If you want to challenge your writing skill, he would be a good teacher. His class is super boring that I could not even stay awake. He tries to make fun but always fail. He is strict in grading.
Second time having him for English. Follow his rules to writing an essay and you should do good in his class! He's laid back and let's the student come up with answers, but he is difficult.
I don't understand how anybody dislikes him. He's one of the few teachers who provides incredibly helpful feedback on essays. He's brilliant and hilarious. His primary tactic for teaching is to make the classroom atmosphere lighthearted, encouraging open discussions involving everyone.
If you truly want your writing to be improved take this class, he is hard and demanding and you'll probably feel stupid at the end of every class session and cry at the though of another '10 perfect sentence' but you WILL become a better writer, guaranteed. Yes this class will bring down your GPA as he hardly ever gives more than a B+butitsgoodclas
Mr. Lowe is unhelpful and rude. Who the hell wants to eat salsa at 7:30 in the morning. TWICE!!!!!!!!! Got a high mark but i attribute it to following the curriculum. NOT to his irritating and unfunny teaching methods.
Excellent english teacher. He is absolutely hilarious! I took the class at 7:20 am, which is a sucky time, but he made the class interesting and fun. I received a 3.8 because he provides you with a CRYSTAL CLEAR class course guide that shows you everything you have to do to succeed. Love this guy!
I like his class because I understand what he wants for 'A' student. If you follow his direction, at least you will get 3.0 or more.
What a terrible instructor. Always rather rude or sarcastic. The toughest grader I have ever had. Raises the bar way too high for such a rudimentary class. Would never suggest anyone to take his class, unless you are stuck.
An outstanding English teacher!!!!
Funny at times
I would highly not suggest this instructor at at all. I did all my work and and missed 3 days and I almost passed his attitude for help was not appropraite and he was always sarcastic. Not a easy instructor and very strick!
He'll answer any question, but no matter what he teaches old school. According to English tutors, he's the strictest of the Green River English Profs
He is a great professor. He will only appeal to those that can follow direction and also have a sense of humor. I loved him so much im taking another class of his next fall!!
Mr Lowe is a great professor, and he goes out of his way to learn everyones names and make class interesting. He has a sarcastic sense of humor and WILL interact with you. So if you are lazy, late, or skip all the time, he will notice and probably make fun of you without you even realizing it
This was my first time back to school since graduating high school 16 years ago. I certainly hope all professors aren't this difficult. One day he said, "if we don't care, why should he". Evidently that is the only reason for doing poorly in his class and It's entirely the students fault. He also told us he gets paid whether we pass or not.
Very difficult.Very sarcastic. tough on grading especially on young group. assuming that they do not have experience. Old school teaching
Thinks he's funny, but he really isn't. Likes to make the class feel stupid for not knowing answers. Overly sarcastic and over-all a bad instructor.
I hope nobody ever decides to take a class from him. He is rude and tells the class they are stupid(in his own words). He is incredibly hard on grading. His sarcastic sense of humor is awful, and makes the class a painful event. If you want your gpa and overall happiness to go down than this is the right guy. If not wait for another professor.
Awesome teacher. He is funny and sarcastic. His "friends" who come in and teach are silly and fun. Just watch out for his party ties. He wants to make his students better writers. He expects his students to think and join in on class discussions. He gives excellent feedback on papers, sometimes whole pages of comments. I want him again.
Mr.Lowe is officially my favorite English teacher of all time. I normally don't like English and I HATE writing essays, but he makes the class so fun that I actually looked forward to his class! I definitely recommend his class.
Mr. Lowe is a good teacher in the sense that he does know his stuff, but he has an attitude because he knows his stuff. He can be funny, at times, and he's always sarcastic. When it comes to grading, he knocks points off for not doting an I or crossing a T. He is a pitbull when it comes to grading.
I loved his class. He was very clear about what he expected to be turned in and he kept the class interesting. I loved the comics on every handout! He was always willing to give extra help if needed. I loved his method of grading- taking the best scores out of several assignments. I got a 4.0 easily. Highly recommend taking his class!
Mr.Lowe was awesome! He tells you exactly what he expects from you and if you ask him after class for clarity he is happy to help. His grading is very fair and even if you do a good job he gives you a page of notes on what you did well and what you can improve on. He is not the easiest grader but I personally can say he has made me a better writer.
He was a pretty funny teacher. Only problem I had with him was when some students didn't hear what he said or asked a question he felt was stupid- HE LET YOU KNOW. He would belittle the students in front of the class. good class, just don't f-up!
He can be sarcastic, but honestly he just treats you like an adult, so don't start crying just cause he made a little joke. If you participate you are almost guaranteed an A, all he wants is for you to try. His class was fun and he drops a lot of bad grades so it leaves a lot of room for improvement. And it's interactive, lots of group work.
Super funny and sarcastic. But one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. If you have a sense of humor and don't need a ton of help I'd highly recommend.
I took a class from Mr. Lowe a few years ago before I transferred to a university out of state. After graduating college with a B.A. in English Teaching, I can reflect on my class with Lowe and say he is a great professor. He prepares students for the tough college environment and has high expectations. If you're serious about school, I recommend.
Worst professor I have ever had. His assignments are unclear and he is impossible to please. 350 characters are simply not enough to tell you. I wish I could relay everything that he did to our class throughout the quarter, but let's just say that it was a miserable struggle and here I am 3 days after the quarter ENDED still working on his class.
He is really sarcastic when he teaches. I advise you to read the readings, show up to class and don't backtalk him because you will look like a fool. But, he can be funny sometimes and he will answer your emails and questions if you show that you care. Not an east 4.0 because I got a 3.2 but a class that can be passed if yo utry.
I loved his class!!! I have pretty much hated english courses because the teachers always sucked. He was easy if you paid attention. A lot of people didn't and ended up re-writing a lot of the essays. I got a 3.8 so happy with his teaching!
Calls people out sometimes. So be prepared to answer!
Had no idea what I was getting myself into taking this class. Turned out to love it and enjoy english for once. This teacher is the best english teacher I've ever had. Very helpful and always willing to work with you. Cares a lot about his students and gets work back in a timely manner.
The worst teacher I've ever had. He was incredibly unclear about course expectations and posted assignment specifics at the last minute. He waited until Saturday to post the details of the final paper (8 page research paper) that was due on Monday. He's rude, thinks he's too good for a community college, and expects everyone to be illiterate.
I ended up taking 2 classes with Lowe, and I received a 4.0 in both. His classes are not difficult if you pay attention, show up for class, and ask for clarification if you need it. He noticed when I put effort into my work, and his sarcasm humor made the classes interesting. Also, he didn't just lecture; he mixed it up a bit (which I liked).
He's a very good teacher i took English 185 with him and got a 3.1. I skipped 6 classes and i lost a .5 on my grade, if you show up and try he will give you a good grade and at end of the quarter he'll give you a chance to raise your grade by .5, that's not even the best part you have 9 months after the quarter ends to do the extra credit.
He was a great teacher. He is very sarcastic always gave us handouts that he announced as quizzes but weren't!
Mr Lowe's class is tough-ish but fun! He gets the material across but still mixes it upkeeps it interesting. He's got a great sense of humor but also seriously knows his stuff. I learned a lot this quarter about academic writing (and 7 am classes-don't do that to yourself trust me). He holds his students to a high standard and helps them meet it.
I took this class online and thought that it was pretty easy. His expectations are very clear and there really isn't a lot of course work. Just pay attention to details and you will do fine on the assignments. As for the final research paper, make sure to work on it throughout the quarter while doing other assignments so as to not fall behind.
There was practically no instruction in this class. The professor posted a confusing and inadequate word document with a couple of examples of what we were supposed to do, then gave long and brutally hard tests which we were not prepared for. He did not respond to messages, and was rude and condescending when asked for help. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
What a miserable class. The tests are a nightmare, instructions are not clear at all, and the professor doesn't seem to care. There is not adequate feedback given on tests either. The teacher just posts a generic form with the right answers and fails to tell you where you went wrong. I am a straight A student and this class destroyed my GPA.
This professor was confusing and unreasonably hard. This was ridiculously hard for a one-hundred level class. If you like spending all of your time on one ridiculous class with an aloof professor, this is the class for you. I wouldn't take Lowe again if you payed me.
This was easily the worst professor I've ever had. He gives zero meaningful feedback, does practically no teaching, and expects you to pass sadisticly hard tests. He is either non-responsive or downright rude when asked for help. Do yourself a favor and don't take this professor.
He's a great professor. Though I didn't have a face-to-face class with him, he's been very helpful. However, he's relatively a hard grader. Soooo prepare yourself!
It is the hardest class I have ever taken. He is a super sarcastic guy which makes the class laugh quite often. He gives very detailed guidelines for papers, so make sure you remember all of them. He is helpful whenever you need him and also gives constructive feedbacks because he wants you to write better.
This professor was the least helpful professor I have ever had. Whenever I reached out to him, he would reply very sarcastically, which I found condescending. The material is interesting and the class as a whole was interesting, just a very difficult professor.
I learned a tremendous amount in Mr. Lowe's class. He is truly dedicated to the students, and very encouraging. I grew as a student because he fostered an atmosphere that allowed me to learn through trail and error, without feeling judged.
He told our class in a group email, & I quote, "This is the worst class I have had in 5 years" & I regret not responding, "You are the worst teacher I have had in 5 years." I had emailed him various times & he responded with a book that didn't even answer my questions. He was not helpful whatsoever & I felt that I didn't learn anything useful.
This teacher isn't just a tough grader, his online assignment make zero sense,I do not recommend taking an online course with him. Maybe in person he might be a better teacher, but he did not provide a lot of information, and when he did, it was very confusing. His grading system makes no sense, and there is LOTS of homework
Tries to make class fun but often did it in a strange way. Did everything in his power to prevent friends from working together. Forced me out of my comfort zone but I think it was actually beneficial. Really helps you learn how to become a better writer. Overall a very supportive and helpful professor!
I love when instructors give meaningful feedback with the intention to help you grow as a student. After all, that is why we're in college. Unfortunately, this instructor is incredibly rude, condescending, and generally unhelpful. I would strongly advise against taking a course with him.
This professor expects so much. He will take several points away if you miss something small. He gives really good feedback. He had so many files, so if you're looking for something it'll take years to find. Grading criteria for everything is separated.
In my first quarter, I took his class online as a running start student and I emailed him a question and started the email with "Greetings Walter" opposed to "Dear Professor Lowe" and he had a fit! I have taken two of his classes and have barely gotten by in them. The writing center even says many students find his classes incredibly difficult.
Honestly, Mr. Lowe is amazing. I took Mr. Lowe for English 101, 126, 246, and 185. If you put in effort and show that you care and he will accommodate you. If the whole class tries he does offer an extra credit essay where he will raise your final GPA grade by .7.
Participation was critical, it definitely affected my grade. His class was fun though, he has a great personality and he helps with essays.
Professor Lowe was an awesome teacher. He has a good sense of humor that may come across as rude, but it's pretty funny if you understand he's kidding. The assignments may seem unclear, but I think this is intentional so each paper he reads is different. It may seem like a lot of papers, but as you move along you'll realize it's less than you think
Prof. Lowe and his instructions could be kind of cryptic at times, but he was an all around solid choice. He's sarcastic, funny, light-hearted, and very patient with his students that seem to struggle.
Professor Lowe's class was stressful but I learned a lot. He was very picky about every portion of the research paper, but is a bit more lenient on participation and "tasks" grades. He is helpful and usually responds to questions very quickly, and doesn't seem to get frustrated. Also beware of grammar, he will take off points if it is faulty.
Lowe was reasonable with the amount of work he assigned, but he is awful- and I mean awful -at explaining assignments. Most of the time I was confused on what he wanted from me but, when I got it right, he was a pretty easy grader.
Mr. Lowe class can o either two ways for you it may be easy for you or it will be really difficult. In his class you will need to pay attention 100% of the or else it will be really difficult to be successful. He is a funny guy which helps. If you are going to take this class I suggest that you prepared and ask questions if you don't understand.
Mr. Lowe is a good professor who gives clear grading criteria and marks very strictly. It is necessary to pay attention in his class to do well.
I was not a fan of Walter's online grammar class. (Don't call him Walter, though -- he's very adamant that he is to be called "Professor Lowe".) I found his instructions confusing and the material mostly boring. It sounds like he's a better teacher in person, so consider going that route if you take one of his classes.
He didnt approve any of my topics and didnt give me good feedback, 10/10 DO NOT TAKE if your writing style uses emotions and insight. I hated the class more than I hate myself, I regret this class so much.
Too wordy on his instructions. Highlights different parts of the assignment instruction, with no key to go off of. Frequently Contradicts himself in his instructions. When he grades your assignments he patronize you when he gives you feedback. If you need to take this class pick a different instructor. He'll criticize but not instruct.
Avoid.
Lowe is probably best taken online, Especially the ENGL128 class. When taking it online, It's just participation and one research paper, but that can be a double edged sword for some. 75% of your grade depends on how well you do on the research paper. Just follow the examples he gives and try to be "creative" as he puts it.
Mr. Lowe is one of the best professors I've had at Green River. I took both his English 101 and English 128 classes, and loved both. Although both were more difficult than most courses at Green River, they were a great way to learn. Mr. Lowe wants his students to succeed and will clarify if you are confused about any part of the assignments.
By far the worst English teacher I have ever taken. He isn't very clear in what he looks for in his research paper. I felt like I was on my own the entire time taking his online class. One small mistake means a lot of points docked. If you plagiarize even accidentally, that means a fat zero on your final paper and you fail. Do not take his class!
Walter Lowe is a fantastic instructor. He is difficult and expects one to work to truly understand how to write well. While he is difficult one will learn a lot. I took him for both 101 and 128. If you're looking for an easy English class where you can put in minimum effort and learn very little don't take him. I would recommend taking him.
Professor Lowe is a great professor. I took him for 101 and 128. He isn't has hard as he seems but he isn't easy. Take notes and follow what do what he says. You will learn a lot if you take his classes. He is the best teacher in the English department by far. Easier English teachers exist if you just want to pass but the quality can't compete.
AVOID at all costs, does not give clear directions and will dock points for doing anything extra.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ENGL101, literally take anyone else for the same credit and a much less stressful quarter.
I took this course ONLINE. His teaching style was NOT a good fit for me. The first few weeks there was hardly any homework. He doesn't open future modules in advance, so I really felt like rather than cramming at the end, I would have been much better off using the time at the beginning of the quarter. His feedback to the class was usually negative
The final paper is absolutely ridiculous. He is very unclear about what exactly he wants, he really just tells you what NOT to do. I went from an A- to a D+ Only because of the final paper.
Do not take this class. Mr. Lowe was highly unprofessional; he doesnt have a syllabus, and he doesnt proofread his own assignments. His tests and homework pages are rife with grammatical errors that youre supposed to interpret and work around in order to complete the work. You wont learn anything about good grammar in this course.
The way he grades assignments is an absolute joke. I typed two pages of QUALITY work for the research paper outline only to be given a D-. I don't have enough characters in this response box to tell the entire story, but my advice is to stay away. I am considering contacting the division chair since this assignment was worth so many points.
Professor Lowe, in my opinion was a terrible teacher. I was in his online class and it was a MESS! He jumbled his lectures and assignments together which made the assignment criteria unclear and his explanations were difficult. He failed nearly every student over one paper due to the unclear wording that he used. NEVER AGAIN!
This has to be one of the worst professors I've ever had during my Running Start experience. At the start, the class seems fine, however, mid to late quarter things take a turn. His instructions and requirements for assignments are very unclear. For the final, it is horrible, I went from a high B to an -D.
Mr. Lowe was not a good online teacher. His assignments would not be as bad if he would give better instructions. The course instructions were unorganized and confusing. The final paper is worth a lot of points. His instructions for the final paper were the worst. They did not make sense. My grade went from a 4.0 to a 3.5 due to the final paper.
I actually took two online classes with Professor Lowe because in his classes your grade is solely dependent on the amount of effort that you put in. In both classes his instructions were incredibly clear (he highlights and repeats exactly what is expected from students in the assignments). If you want to grow as a writer then take his class!
I would not recommend the class online. It might be better in person but I had a very poor experience with this class.
Lowe is an awful excuse for a professor, any attempts to ask for help will inevitably turn in to him passive aggressively scolding you for being such an unintelligent student, I asked on several occasions how to do certain things, he would simply point towards his course modules. His grading was awful and he *refuses* to explain what you do wrong.
I was nervous to take Engl 128, especially because its been years since Ive taken a writing intensive class. It was much better than I expected! This course is NOT an easy A, you will have to work hard but its possible! I will say Mr. Lowe is not the friendliest person, but his instructions are incredibly clear so I never had to email him.
Mr. Lowe was not the most difficult professor that I've ever had but he made the class harder than it needed to be with poor explanations on directions for assignments. If you do the homework and keep up, the class is easy, only if you are able to understand the directions he gives.
With the online format, I believe teachers get creative in their ways to ensure students are actually reading through content (course guides/assignment directions) and not just skimming, doing bare minimum. This is not ENGL 101, it does require a more independent learner to be successful in this class. A nice change from humanities based writing.
Professor Lowe is an excellent docent. I could take his class multiple times and learn more every single time. He is a caring individual who respects his students and can see the effort you put into his class. He is, hands down, THE BEST professor I have ever had. I took his class online and I envy the students that get to take his class in person.
This professor is probably one of the worst I've ever had. There's a final paper worth half your grade. The instructions for the paper and the HW supposed to "prepare" for it are really unclear. There are no lectures, just random assignments on Canvas. We were only given examples of the final A DAY before it's due, when it's too late to change it.
DON'T TAKE HIM, WASTE OF ENERGY/TIME YOU WON'T LEARN WHAT YOU CAME TO LEARN.
Lowe is the worst Professor Ive ever had. His intention to fail you no matter what. He will not tell you what to do instead he point out all the mistakes. I wish I have read these reviews because I took his class.
Uninspiring, dated, and headache-inducing a few of the adjectives that sum up Lowe's course. Lowe's coursework is outdated and recycled, his assignments are random, the prerecorded lectures he posts are from 2012, and his instructions are needlessly complicated. His feedback is not helpful. Instead of helping you improve, he makes you feel stupid.
This professor is very difficult. The assignment is about three times a week, so it's not difficult. However, his instructions are ambiguous. They won't tell you what they want in a straightforward manner. Therefore, you need to think a lot about it's important. Moreover, once he dislikes you, you always lose points.
With no disrespect this professor is an old man and his methods of teaching are tedious and outdated with unclear instructions and when you email him it always feels like a fight or a scolding for no reason
This teacher has zero interest in teaching students a skill. He is more interested in giving you pages of highlighted garbage to sift through to find your assignments, and then tell you the wrong date. He never opens assignments on time and frankly will only tell you what you did wrong. Dont bother with this class.
Professor Lowe is incredibly unclear about what he wants from you. He never gives specific criteria for any of his assignments or papers.
It was hard to anticipate what I am asked to do from his instruction. He tends to write a bunch of words to tell a short, important message. Even if I send an inquiry, his response is always vague and not clear
He "refuses" to clarify what his instruction means. As long as I see other rates and comment for his class, I don't think his instruction is clear enough for everyone. He argues that understanding the teacher's instruction is an important skill in society but I think giving a clear explanation is also an important skill, which he doesn't possess.
Don't be discouraged by the low ratings, Mr. Lowe is a great professor as long as you can read and follow directions. If you don't believe me, I worked on my final for only a single day and I got full points. The important thing to keep in mind is to stay organized and listen to his feedback. Do that and you will easily get an A.
Overall hes a pretty average prof. You honestly do not have that much work its really just how many essays he gives. One week he didnt even give us work to do. Definitely get the book tho because he uses it a lot. We had about 4 or 5 essays and a few discussion post. Just beware of how tough his grading is.
This was for the English class 183. I would not take this professor again. The weight of the work is very uneven. Numerous items to do every week with out super clear instructions. Does not give great feed back to help you improve, just a ton of work with very little return. Could use alot of revamping.
Will randomly call on you and ask you a question knowing that the class has not been taught the subject in the question. He's an, "anything I say could be on the test" kind of teacher so it always feels like he's working against you. Instructions are always vague and makes you feel stupid if you want clarification.
Toughest professor I've ever had. His grading was for rough, I don't think he gives grades above a B- on any papers, he will look for the smallest errors. In assignments he includes too much instructions that contradicts itself. I've emailed him asking for clarification and he just refers me back to the assignment. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
The instruction for assignments can be pretty unclear, long, and complicated. There is between 1-2 weekly assignments due every week which is nice. Keep in mind he will not give you ANY feedback on any of your assignments unless its to grade it which is very unhelpful. He is also a tough grader and gives no chances to fix your grade on any essay's.
He is the most awful teacher that i have ever taken, No clear on due date submission, hard information to read, the question of the assignment can get you fail to try to understand that, never take his class, dont expect to have a second chance or extra credit to improve your assignment
Walter Lowe is very strict in his class . I remember that if you post your words in the discussion part , you can not edit , for that , I feel not good. He also does not want to make further explanation for his instructions.
I loved Mr. Lowe, if you stay on track and do your ten perfect sentences at the beginning of the quarter instead of waiting till the very end of the course you will do fine. He gives you essays but they are manageable. You do need the book of essays as we used it a lot.
I found this class really easy but I also have a really firm foundation in English, so I think that's why. The biggest things he focused on this quarter were Verb Tenses, Adjective and Adverb Phrases and Clauses, and identifying parts of speech.
Please do not take his class ever his instructions are not very clear. His feedback on essays are not very helpful. Take a different class with another teacher to make sure you get the grade you want.
Do not take this teacher ever . Not very clear on his instructions. He's feedback on essays are not very helpful. He scolds you if you do not know an answer to his questions. You will have a better semester taking this class with another professor with a teacher that will give you the grade you want then with him. Don't bother with him.
Lots of work, gives good feedback though.
Professor Lowe has a specific style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. Stay organized, read the instructions carefully, and use study aids like Unstuck ai to prepare. With some effort, you can do well in this class.
The class itself is pretty easy, his lectures are easy to follow and if you are already strong in English this class will be easy. Don't cut corners, assignments in his class can stack up quick (10 perfect sentences). His humor is weird and it's hard to tell when he's serious.
Do not take this teacher ever. Save your grades/GPA . not clear on instructions. not very helpful on essays. Does not give feedback on essays. Avoid
1-2 Post and Respond discussion boards each week, you have to annotate the assigned readings because there are group discussions in class. Participation is required in class. Only 3 major papers. He gives lectures and posts the material on Canvas afterwards. Gave accurate feedback. He was very nice and easy to pass, you just need to do the work.
Tough grader, but he does take time to give specific feedback. The instructions are extensive but very helpful if you read everything. He obviously puts a lot of effort into class and is clearly knowledgeable. Frustrating at times, but I learned a lot.
The professor conveyed the material clearly and his teaching style challenged critical thinking skills, allowing for personal growth.
