the class seems easy but the test are hard as hell and he doesn't grade on a curve.
I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who isn't really good with math. However, he's a very lenient grader.
He is a weird teacher, can be funny at times. He explains thing pretty well... but his test is hard and he doesn't grade on a curve. Tip if he spends alot of time in classs on a topic. Know it. its worth anywhere from 7-18 pts on the test.

He is the best! The explanations are clear and illustrated with examples. Minimum memorization, maximum understanding. I just wish he would know more about financial and economic aspects of the course.
An outstanding professor. Theories of interest is not an easy matter. Prof. Wang did a wonderfull job in presenting them.

Took course last spring and passed!!! The trick is to do the homework. Tests are similar to homework. DO THE HOMEWORK AND YOU WILL PASS. Don't do the homework and you won't pass (unless you are a math genius).
Teaches really fast, hard to keep up sometimes, never collects homework, take his class if you actually LIKE math and can follow it or else you will fail.
He is the rudest piece of cr@$ i ever seen. He is a bumbling idiot. He belittles his students and anyone that thinks he is funny must be retarded. Not only is he rude, he is a horrible teacher and needs to learn how to match his clothes. He is such a loser!!!!
Professor Wang is one of the most experienced math teachers in my math curriculum. He can teach a subject in numerous methods, and usually simplifies each method to the most amenable process of resolve, while ensuring each student understands the procedure. If you study, you will be well rewarded.

Enjoyed the class. Learned a lot about calculus. We covered so much material in just a few weeks. He went really fast but had to in order to cover all the material. Worth taking.
Wang is a second-rate professor; he is concerned mostly with mechanical solution of standard problems, not with understanding. As for his personality, I think he has a low self-esteem so he can be a boorish dude.

Wang is the worst professor I have ever ever had. I do not believe he knows what he was talking about at all otherwise, he would actually be able to explain things to his students. He does not explain anything and just constantly gets stupidly frustrated. He has made my life hell. This professor is going to make a student commit suicide. Total jerk
Hard exams but if you study really a lot you will do ok.
Well, he's a really good teacher, and he really helped me to understand the concepts. But he's a complete jerk. He has the worst attitude. He's very mean and has alot of anger inside and takes it out on the students. He's usually right but still, he needs to be more respectful. this class is only for SERIOUS students with thick skin.

hi, people there is no choice to take this course in our school. By the way, if you have taken few fin courses before the course, then you will be better off, coz the prof. wang just likes you from the fin. He is still studying for the course. Therefore, do your best as you can and good luck.
I only had this guy for a winter course, but he really has a poor attitude. I would ask questions and he would make me feel like an **** in front of the whole class. Maybe I'd ask a dumb question, but there was no need to embarrass me. Thats just me..felt he was rather rude and lacked the patience needed in a teaching environment.
I had him for Pre-cal/Intro to Cal and he was terrible. Not only did half of my class drop, but those who stuck with him till the end of the semester ended up with terrible grades. He is extremely rude, and hates to be questioned. The only people who did well in the class were those who have taken calc before. Stay away.
wang is a very good professor his class is a little hard at the begining but there is no better teacher to prepare you for final. his class is clear and really helpful and i dont understand why people say he is mean. he is very very nice. he can really teach math and if you study just a little you will get A like me.

Wang is a very nasty guy. He talks condescendingly and thinks he knows everything, will jump down your throat and attack you verbally. Needs an anger management course - retire already. He is the worst -- so arrogant, nasty, bad mood swing, CONTROL FREAK, snotty and thinks he is funny. He is inhuman and unsensitive to others feelings. Unkind with a serpent's tongue. He is one hard professor, will make you work very hard throughout the semester, if you have survived him that means you will get C or better on the final. He is very nice too, he wants you to study and will help you in anyways that he can. If you like math then take him, he teaches really good.
"Does anyone have any questions?" translates into "so who wants to be my next victim?" for this guy. And he zooms right through the material too.

Inconsiderate, doesn't come prepared to class, sometimes mixes theorems up and then has to reclarify two days later, thinks every student in his class is an idiot. When he doesn't understand your question, he belittles you and makes an effort to make you feel stupid... instead of answering your question.

This professor is intelligent and practical. He knows his material well. His syllabus is clear, and his lecture is well prepared. The way he conveys message is straightforward. This may innocently hurt someone's feelings, but this is understandable. Math can't be vague. It's clearly cut. Otherwise, it brings misunderstanding.

Professor Wang made me change my major! That's all I have to say. He is rude and uncooperative. He takes off all his fustration for not being able to teach the class or even knowing what he is doing on us; we're the ones who suffer becuase he does not know the material and cannot communicate it well. He is SOO hard, his tests are crazy, but he is a GREAT professor, if you are majoring in math or economics and you have passion in math then take him, if not dont even think abt taking him, half of the students dropped out
RUN AWAY! Even if you are a good student and don't want a W grade, run still! A "W" is better than a D, or worst F, an F is good cus you can retake the class. BUT he says he never gives out Fs, lots of Ds and Cs, but no Fs. I guess that's his way of continuing to screw us over even after his class is over. Do yourself a favor people and RUN!!!!

FYI,I did not take any classes with this professor yet but I did go to him for advisement. OMG, the worst ever, never even looked at me, was reading some mag all while. When I asked him a question, he returned w/ demeaning comments, like I said, never took his class but from the 5 mins I spent with him, I will try to avoid his class at all cost.
Really hard class! He has a bit of an attitude sometimes, but explains extremeley well. Difficult tests and no curve. We started with 32 people, ended with about 18. 3 tests and a cumulative final. Taking a Finance class or two beforehand really helps. If you work hard, you will do well. Good Luck!
He is a great teacher but is very strict and gives hard exams. If you do the homework and attend class you should do OK. Many students did well in the class but he made us all work very hard. If you do not want to work - do not take him. If you want to learn the subject and will work hard - he will help you learn it.
Professor Wang is a great professor. I personally believe he's much better than most of the Math professors at Baruch and he tries his best to explain the subject matter. Calculus is not one of my best areas but I attended all of his classes, did the homework and I got a B+ in the course. I was very happy about my grade.
Wow...In my entire educational career, I have yet to find a teacher as sadly horrible as mr. Walter Wang. One word sums him up. Pathetic. His job in life is to teach students math. Yet all he does is succesffuly turn off everyone from said subject. He is nasty...no respect for his students nor does he care to actually teaah anybody anything.

I see what all you guys that write bad stuff about Professor Wang, have in common. You are not intelligent and don't understand math. You should know that math is a perfect test of your intellegence, so it's not Wang's fault that you are not smart. Get it???? Wait till you get to ECO 4000 and BPL. Then you should really complain.
For the student below: just because a person does not understand math, doesn't mean they are not intelligent. You can excel in all other areas and still struggle with it. As for the professor, he's not the friendliest guy, but he knows and explains the material well. He can be rude, but if you pay attention and do the hw, you'll make it through.
He got his style, a humorous professor with unique personality and a big heart. He seems a man not easy to approach at first, but if you try to get to know him, you will know: He is so so sweet ,warm,helpful, and understanding. Just be patient and brave, talk to him and you will always be surprised. A great professor than ever..
Very tough but a great teacher. If you are planning to take the SOA exam pay attention, do your homework, ask questions and you will pass the exam. If you are taking it as a minor requirement and want an easy course, try something else.
Wang may be tough but he just wants to push his students to do the best. I don't think the class was that bad, but you really need to work hard and practice. I went tutoring and it was very helpful.
Very good professor. He is not very patient with questions, but he explains the subject really well. I just attended all his classes and did the sample exams and passed. Overall very satisfied.

Professor Wang is very caring, and funny in his own way. At first he did not seem approachable, but he is, just DO YOUR HOMEWORK ( as he says at the end of each class) and you will be fine its a lot of work but when you take the final, it will be a total JOKE. Other students find him difficult or terrible because they don't put in the effort
I took him during Spring'08 and I am glad I did. He is a great prof. if you invest enough time to do ALL the homework, it helps. Make sure you know how to do all the problems you did in class before going to take an exam!!! He has a good sence of humour. Probably the very best class to prepare for acturial exams.
Doesn't explain well and rushes through material, makes you only more confused, thanks to the vidoes on baruch website I was able to learn myself. DON'T BOTHER TO ASK A QUESTION if you don't understan sth, he will make fun of you. He is disrespecfull toward students (treats you as a child)!!!
He knows the material very well and explains well. Will gladly help out of class time but you need to be brave to go. BUT!!! listen, behave and do all homework. If you sleep, be late or don't do your homework he will humiliate you in front of all. Material looks easy but it is not. Tests are hard. Math minors - STAY AWAY!!!
He is a wonderful professor willing to help anyone who really shows that they need it. He abhors lateness, but he is clear and to-the-point. He goes over anything you don't understand as long as you ask him.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK or don't ask questions. If you really try he will help you as much as he can but he does not tolerate lateness, people who fall asleep in his class or people who do not do their homework. If you want to really learn the material - take him. If you just want to pass the course - try someone else.
Professor Wang was an excellent teacher.He does not play around and will get upset if you do not do your homework.But trust me doing the homework will prove beneficial when test time comes.His test are hard but you just have TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK and ask as many questions.Even though he is a stern teacher he is always wiling to go over material.

Class is EZ if u do ur hwk.He is big on hwk & tests reflect some questions pulled straight from the hwk.If you dont do well in this class its ur fault.If u go late to class then you must submit hwk.So dont b late,or do ur hwk!Wang is the best i've seen,very good at teaching but dont expect any praises or hugs.He just wants u to learn, nothing else.
professor Wang TRIES very hard but her accent is too thick to comprehend. She understands everything...but the powerpoints don't make YOU understand, and her explanations are no good because you can't tell what she's saying. The class isn't hard though, her m.c.-only exams are about as challenging as what I saw in my intro classes. textbook is KEY.
Worst professor at Baruch with an horrible attitude. Do not be more than 2 minutes late, otherwise he will consider you absent from his class. There is only a final -study from sample finals(10) and classnotes and ditch the book, as he gives you enormous amount of useless exercises. Even I did ok in his class - I hated every minute there.
If you miss attendance, don't even bother giving him a doctor's note or any kind of note...he doesn't give a rat's ass about it and will tell you to take care of it with the Math department. He's unnecessarily rude and has no respect for his students. He's barely in class, thankfully. But his lecturer who is much more nice is there.
Extremely helpful for SOA Exam FM. Teaches you to understand not memorize, which is great. Obviously, he has an attitude but the benefits far outweigh the costs if you want to learn interest theory.

Money ill spent. Super easy 2 exams (40% each). Homework 10%, participation 10%.You can get out with A, but learn virtually nothing. Might as well buy economics book and watch business news on daily basis, no need to spend time going to class.Professor is willing to answer questions, but accent kills it all.
I am not a math major nor ever been in his class. I just wanted to ask him some questions about a class that he teaches. I said "excuse me" when I saw him outside of his office, but he just ignored me and shut the door. This happened twice. I am not his student. I don't know him. All I know is, he is an Asshole! Up Yours!
He is a very good teacher. if you want to learn math take his class. but you have to work hard in his class and don't be late.
Took him for the summer course. If you're not going to work hard for your grade, don't even bother taking this class. Do not be late to his class. Study the textbook problems for the quiz. His exams are similar to the final, except that it is both multiple choice questions and non multiple choice. If you understand those, you'll pass the final.
Nice lady and seemingly knowledgeable but her accent is as noted before extremely thick If you really want to learn the material here are the choices read the book over and over, take another professor, or wait for next semester. The exams are hard and she expects a small presentation from students all difficult if you can't understand the prof.
This 'intro' online course covers too much material for a 14 week semester. The interactive eBook basically did all of the teaching. He required interaction on Facebook which the CUNY administrators can't monitor. Ridiculous amount of hours per week in addition to 2 tests and an exam that require way too much time to prep for. Stay away!!
You'd better be ready to get your learn on. Tough as heck, but man, this guy can drill. You will learn. Crazy amount homework (DO YOUR HOMEWORKS); try to avoid the summer course. Great preparation for SOA FM exam.
This miserable man didn't even teach the class, which was good because I don't think I would have been able to handle it. When you do try and interact with him he is rude, nasty, and is the only professor I've ever met who truly could not care less about his students. He's absolutely awful.
This guy was horrible. He did not even teach the class. He had a lecturer teach who was really cool and helpful, but then for the final he shows up and gives us some test that nobody seemed to know where it came from. We were told to study the department final, it was far from that. Stay away not worth the 65 hours of stress for a P, F!!!!

Online Math in Contemporary Society 102. Clear syllabus and rubrics, answered questions promptly. It wasn't easy, but if you do the work there are no surprises. Make sure you are fully comfortable with Pearson's My Math Lab, and use it.

Here's the deal: Professor Wang may not be the nicest of the bunch but his job is not be your friend--he's there to teach. If you ask for help, he will give it to you. He's punctual, can be rude and dry but never disrespectful. Do the work, practice and study. No one fails you--you have to work hard like any other class if you want to pass.
I don't know if those students who left negative reviews really had a bad experience or if they were just cry babies because I have no complaints over this professor. He does his job, explains the material clearly. He is very strict and doesn't babysit anyone so do your work and practice at home and you won't have any problems.
Heed my warning and avoid this teacher at all costs. He does not care his students. He has his assistant teaching the whole time and only shows up for the final. The assistant is not a good teacher either. Baruch has many good teachers but this is the first where I feel my money could have gone to a better teacher.
Class required additional 100 dollar online text. Very little support or interaction with the Professor. This class taught me how to self teach and I don't mean that in a positive way.
This is by far the worst class Ive ever taken. Baruch need to really Access the hybrid option for Math0120 as all students learn differently. This is a 100% self taught class and just imagine being out of school for yearsto teach yourself Math! Its like youve been set-up to fail. I am supposed to graduate this semester of 2020 May and now I will most likely not because of the amount of his work and absurd grading standards He answers his emails but he is rude to deal with. He is one of these new teachers who has something to prove which is likely why he gives so much work. Be ready for 9 hrs+/week of work. Avoid him!
I've never had more hw in my life and I'm at the Graduate center! He's rude + inaccessible. Lives in FL.I'm supposed to graduate this semester and now have to deal with the grade he gave me to see if I still can with admin at the school. He is not understanding. Let me start by saying I have As on the exams before telling you how rude and disrespectful he is. Ive asked him crystal clear questions via email and he responds brashly and doesnt even answer the question. He gives constant DBs and a writing assignment, when this is a MATH CLASS.
Professor Wang sticks with the syllabus 100%. This is what is Due and when is Due. Great professor, I wish he was a bit more lenient with work.
