Tests are all multiple choice and not very concise.
Be prepared for 10 pages of notes each class-easy tests
tests straight from the notes, except the final - mostly from book, ton of notes
made notes easy by putting them on line, very knowledgable
TONS of notes. Every day is the same. Very anal prof.
Not easy to talk to, very defensive, wants half the class to get below a C
He has a real passion for teaching. Tough class but I really learned a lot.
Terrible prof, very boring, test are difficult, doesn't want ppl to succeed,
I learned a lot. Gives clear and easy to follow notes! Go to class

Boring. Reads overheads for entire class. Boring. Very dull and boring.
Be prepared for ultimate boredom. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
he is nice and fair, notes are online, why go to lectures?
boring
Massive sleepfest, endless note taking, this class is unreal
very organized, knowledgable! go to class--tests come from notes!
BORING! i learned more from staying home....not worth the money!
BORING, didn't learn a thing, tests too confusing
Nice guy but boring class. Tests arent too hard if you take good notes.
Ive never worked so hard for a C-. stay away for the sake of your GPA

All notes off overhead, easy to approach if you have questions though
He is nice enough, tests confusing and unclear.
great prof! very organized, easy to take notes, exam questions straight to point

Boring subject, boring class. Tests kinda tough. Good guy.
i like him
don't let the quizzes fool you, tests are HARD unless you do your reading :)
Lectures with overheads, multiple choice tests, super nice guy, really cares.
I had an A the whole semester and then got a B+. Please explain that.
cool guy, but what kind of last name is that?
read everything he says and studying the overhead notes good for exams.
shy & nice, boring class though. don't think he likes public speaking. hard test
very nice, knowledgeable, study for the tests-they are difficult!
Easy class, do the readings (there is not much), makes sure students understand
Test are very difficult and class is boring. Make sure you read!
very good teacher, but must attend class to do well (ques. on exam from lecture)
He may be boring, but he's hot! Do the reading, or the tests will kick your butt
Assignments were really easy but look out for his tests, make sure you study!
Lots of notes but great for exams, they are hard, study and read the book!

Boring to sit through, but exams right from lectures/readings.
Looks like Peter from the movie Office Space. Canadian, pronounces stuff kinda weird. Interesting, kinda boring, but makes you think. Tests are kind of hard, make sure you read the book AND go to class.
VERY boring, but he tries not to be. if you dont read, youre screwed. If ya dont come to class, your screwed. gotta do both or youll fail for sure.

very long semester. The class is boring but, you have to go. The book is ok, but a lot more interesting than listing to him talk. THE TESTS ARE HARD!!! Not a 100 level class at all.
Put lecture notes in your own words, his are very confusing. Very monotone thru-out class. Exams (3) quite difficult- a couple short answer, essay ? and mult. choice. Do not miss class and read the given assign. He lectures while you take notes.
I thought he was a fabulous professor! As long as you do the readings and go to the class you'll do fine. I had him for 3 hours straight, and I didn't really get bored. He'll help you out if you need it and tries to make everything understandable.

His lectures are very boring. He also requires a lot of homework to be done. I just couldn't deal with the 3 hours of boredom so I dropped.
Very difficult for a 100 level class, boring lectures, exam right from notes and book--his notes are confusing
This professor is very boring and monotone. Make sure you get plenty of sleep before you go to class.
Hes a nice guy, and definitely will help you, but soooo monotone, and his lectures are soooo confusing, they are sometimes contradictory...
hardest midterm ever
I think he is a very nice man. He is nicer then Professor Nikitin my Biology teacher. If you pay attention in class you will understand his notes. But it is kind of hard to pay attention when he is lecturing while you are taking notes. He is very boring.
He's very helfful when you're struggling. He also likes to get the class to participate in little experiments during lecture.
He's canadian and so cute! I learned a lot and it wasn't too hard. He gives you a great base for future psy. classes.
Is a really nice guy and knows his stuff. The class is rather boring though and all you do is take notes. The class is based on 100 pts only so is very hard to keep a good grade. Pretty easy if you study and read.
Very hard to follow, sends some curve **** on exams
The lectures are hard to follow sometimes, he skips around a lot. The book helped a bit, but he doesn't "connect the dots" between the book and his lecture. His tests are hard and the material is tough. He needs a better lecture format.
boring!!!!!
Very nice man. His tests are very hard, but curves a little bit. He is willing to help and easy to get a hold of. A lot of reading and memorization.
horrible... dont even study because it wont help. And if you email him, make sure you do it in advnace, he wont get back to you for a week atleast. class is hard, its hard to follow him during notes... How did you even become a prof at gvsu??
Not what I expected and the tests were very difficult. i studied a lot for the tests and got mid B's. lectures are boring - all overheads. Not too bad for a gen ed class
He's a nice guy. His lectures are long and boring. His tests are difficult even when you actually study. Must read the book to do better on the tests.
I thought his lectures were logical but a bit boring. He does his best to spice things up. Go to every class, take REALLY GOOD NOTES, do the short reading assignments and you'll get an A.
good prof]
He is a great professor. His notes are very clear and he prepares you for the tests. If you go to the lectures and read the book youll have no problem. Make sure to look at the Chp review questions, they're always some on the test word for word.
Gives good notes, but explains while you are copying and doesn't give you a chance to understand. Tests are SO extremely hard. Do not take Psy 101 with HIM DROP IMMEDIATELY
No Comments
A nice guy and answers all your questions throughly. He's a bit nerdy and stumbles over things sometimes, but generally explains things well. The lectures are boring! You have to read the text or you will not get above a B on the tests. Alright class.
It's not that bad! Lectures are boring, but exams aren't that hard. Overall nice guy!
The teacher doesn't make the class interesting at all.
Difficult class, but I felt I learned a lot and actually got something for my money. Was also very helpful outside of class.
Very good learning environment and the class was fun.
Fabulous prof. Extremely organized classes and great introduction to psych. I may even major in psych now which is a shock to me since I thought I'd never do this. Nice smile & face, and when you see him close up you'll love his big puppy brown eyes.
great prof. ready to help. very organized. excellent would take him again
Great Prof. Keeps the class interesting with video clips, overheads and class discussion. Well organized, very approachable. Does test on reading material not covered in class, but tests are multiple choice.
Very Hard Class. I had to work a lot. Sometimes dry, but learned a lot in this course. Hardest ed course you will take. Don't take it with him if you want an easy A/B.
Prof was great. Very helpful.
He is very hard to have to sit and listen to for 3 hours. Don't take his class if you will be tired.
Very hard. Very organized. Get ready to do a lot of reading.
Very hard tests and boring but if you would like he is a nice person to talk to and tries to be helpful.
Be prepared to do a lot of reading & assignments. Very knowledgeable guy. Good prof.
The classes are very boring and the tests are very hard, but Dr. Sa is a nice guy and he is helpful as long as you ask for the help. He just knows so much information about the subject, he doesn't realize that we don't. Ask for the help if you need it!!
not an easy course, but it's interesting stuff.
Very hard class, all lecture and it gets boring. The tests are extremley hard! Test are not even over the lecture material barely, more of just over the book... so your better off staying home and reading the book then going to class
Psych. used to be interesting...until he confused me. 3 hours of notes is not my idea of thorough teaching. When asked questions he is very nice but too smart when responding. He doesn't realize we don't know everything he does. Tests are killer and nothing like the study guides!
The tests are very difficult and the material he presents in class is too much to take in. But he does care so if you ask for help, he will definitely try his best to help you out
Too much information crammed in at once. As students take notes he continues onto another subject and it's too much for anyone to handle. Tests are hard. Not a horrible class but definately not an easy one either.
There was a lot of work in this class. Not an easy grade. I did learn a lot--good value for my money.
great prof and excellent course
Didn't like that class at all. Wasn't very clear but that could just be me. Didn't make the class interesting at all. Very boring and try not to fal asleep in class, it happens sometimes.
Hardest class ive ever had... tests were insanely hard, and the lectures were incredibly boring. Nice guy, but made things too confusing and hard. Don't take this class.
Wow. Went to class, listened to lectures, test were horrible and did anyone actually pass them? I did the requirments and still failed the class. I've emailed him several times as to why and still have no response. The first F of my life and I don't know why???
Great Prof. is all I can say. He taught the class very well. Just go to lecture and read the chapters and you will ace the exams. Very nice guy, I definately recommend him for PSY 101!!
hard class but prof Sa was very good at explaining material.
NO NO NO!!! don't listen to anyone but me on this man. He will take any interest you may have had in psychology, and tear it apart. Most boring class of my life. if you can, find a new prof. all this class did for me was take my GPA WAY down. no good.
Heavy load for a first year course. Had to do a lot of work to get my A. Unlike some of my other "bird brain" courses, this A really means something to me. I learned a lot and Dr. Sa was very helpful in answering my questions during the office hour.
THIS CLASS WAS NO FUN AT ALL!!!! Boring and hard...dont take!
Not only does Prof Sa know his stuff but he is very helpful, and a really nice guy. He is always making sure the class is up to speed.
Dr. Sa is a very helpful professor who gives fair exams and great detail to his lectures. He uses fun examples and keeps the information pertanent. He also gives you the class notes in PP form so that you don't have to add much in. He's very understanding and is overall a great proffesor.
Really enjoyed the class with Dr. Sa. It is obvious he puts a lot of work into making the material interesting. The three hour night class goes by rather quickly. The Televised format of the class can be distracting when he teaches from Traverse city.
Excellent prof. Made a 3hour+ class go be pretty good.
I don't understand what he is talking about
Very boring lecture i fall asleep almost everyday i go to class. If you miss one thing he says you may do very poorly on a test. Tests are mostly on lecture material. Doesn't make the class interesting at all.
The material is well-presented and the workload easily managable. It may seem fast-paced at times, but as long as you take good notes in class, keep up with the reading, and study well before tests, you will do fine.
Very organized. I definitely recommend him!
This class isnt that hard if you just study the material like your supposed to. The prof. presents the information really well and is very helpful. He also has a sense of humor. This class was a lecture class so if your the type of person who doesnt want to be single-out, then take this class.
He is a little all over the place with his teaching
Made the class very easy compared to other PSY 101 classes. exams are multiple choice..just study the lecture material. if you can take him
i hated this class. he explains things 10 times harder than he should, its like he goes out of his was to think of a confusing definition. very dry lectures, hard as heck to stay awake. he's a nice guy, but needs new teaching methods.
repeats himself A LOT. gets old. copy all the notes and read the book and you'll do fine... just be prepared to be bored. not the best prof, but an easy A if you put in a bit of effort.
Good prof, very easy class. He repeats things a lot, and the class is slow paced, but if you take good notes and study them you'll get an A on the 3 non-cumulative exams, and the 10 assignments are easy and so is the short paper. If you have to take this class, take it with him.
Godf prof but t he class is just too hard. There was way to much to read and he covered alot stuff in lectures. He was helpful during offices hours.
Tough class. Lots of writing and hard exams. He is very helpful, and you do learn a lot. Dont take it with him if you want an easy grade.
Not an extraordinarily thrilling instructor. The lectures are rather dry and you really have to stay focused in order to pick up on a lot of things. He's VERY knowledgable in his field, and is willing to help out. His tests are kinda difficult, but you do learn a lot.
Lectures are interesting, but exams are impossible. I studied hard and didnt get nearly the grade i expected.
Very nice and helpful professor. If you want to pass the tests, you do have to study, but they aren't impossible. Overall a good teacher.
He was my project advisor for my Honors Senior Project. I really enjoyed working with him and he helped me write an APA style paper. He was easy to understand and always answered any questions I had.
So boring. He is really nice, but boring.
Dreadfully, dreadfully boring...I'm yawning just thinking about it. Not only that...but pretty tough exams. He says "Everything from lecture and in book is FAIR GAME!" Nice guy... but I really didn't enjoy the class AT ALL!
Excellent professor; knows his subject matter very well. Uses a Power Point - type program that runs on Macintosh; better quality than Powerpoint. Tests and assignments are reasonable.
He was helpful and very clear on what needed to be done to get a good grade in his class. I liked how he did little expierments in class. The only thing I didn't like was how hard the tests were. I felt like I understood everything but still didn't do so hot on the tests.
Psy 101 was pretty hard. He used power points but they were not available for the students so there were alot of notes. There's only 100 pts in so you have to keep up in class. He was very nice; he often let class out early so that was a bonus. i am just glad i dont have to take that class again
Very easy class and a very good professor for it. Would suggest taking Sa any day.
Hard professor. His tests are killers. He has a lot of essay's questions and they can be pretty hard. His class is very boring but not going can really hurt you. A lot of work for 1 point assignments mostly everything is based on tests. GOOD LUCK
great teacher wording in lecture and tests kind of confusing but always raises your tests scores
professor sa is decent, he repeats himself a lot and can be a little dense. he is not very understanding if you miss class and ask for the powerpoints (which he also does NOT post). he can be a little hard to understand since he doesn't really reword things to clarify if you ask a question but his tests and assignments are pretty straightforward.
Sa isn't really that bad. Every class is exactly the same- He talks about the powerpoints and you take notes. A little boring but easy. The exams aren't bad if you study the notes. They are pretty much word for word from the powerpoints. Reading the book isn't really necessary. Sa is a good guy. Helpful if you need it. I would recommend the class.
He knows what he is talking about and his tests are based on powerpoint lectures. He is boring to listen too and his tests can be hard.
His classes were monotonous but to-the-point. It's hard with only 100 points total and no extra credit. He's a bit awkward but a very nice guy and very knowledgeable. It's lecture style - no one-on-one pressure, but it does put the ball in your court. Basically, you take notes and/or read the book, absorb lots of material, and do four exams.
Sa is nice and a good guy, but his tests, which are basically the only grades you get in the class, are REALLY hard, and very wordy, there is a lot of strong vocabulary that you need to understand well in order to do well on the tests. I would study and think I was ready and then completely bomb the tests. Nice guy, but tough test giver.
This class was a lot more difficult than I expected. He said the class average was a C-. The exams were worded poorly && he has essay questions. As long as you do extra credit, do the homework, and do well on the project (piece of cake grading there) than you shouldn't do too poorly in this class. Rarely used the book.
His tests are insanely hard. I tried to study for them plenty of times and I always end up with a B or a C. He's very nice and his does all his lectures with slide shows. Attendance not mandatory but if you dont go you will never pass his tests according to him
If you like powerpoints, you'll love this class. Your grade pretty much depends on the 4 exams he gives, which are fairly difficult (I got B's and C's on them). Make sure you do the reading to clarify what you learned in class, or you'll do bad on the exams. Although you don't have to go to class, do it anyways.
Professer Sa is a very nice man, and a fairly easy professor. Your grade in the class is basically based on four exams, which are tolerable IF you do what is asked. If you do all of the reading, and study your notes, you will get a good grade. THe only downfall is the class is a little on the boring side-but the class is still easy.
Nice enough professor but one of the most boring classes/lectures. Tests are so so - if you take notes and do all the readings you still may only be able to get a B. There are a lot better psych profs out there!
A good professor- doesn't just stand at the front and talk. He uses class activities and power points, so it's not completely boring. Don't take this class if you're not ready to attend or take notes. It's not too hard, I've done about an hour of studying for all of the exams and have yet to get lower than an A. Overall, a really enjoyable class.
His lectures at kinda boring but mostly because he likes to drill the meaning of a word into you. While attendance isn't manditory, you pretty much have to have the notes from class, which are nicely organized for you to just copy down (a labtop is useful)! Do the studies as soon as possible before you have too much work to do in other classes.
Good prof. i would recommend him any day. You gotta go to class but he makes it interesting with inclass activities that relate to what is bring taught. The tests are indepth but after the 1st one it is easy to tell what will and wont be on the tests. Go have to go to class and take notes and read the chapters or youre screwed.
UUGGHH! This professor is a really nice man. I'll level with that. But he is such a bore in class. He will try hard to thoroughly answer your question, but babbles on. He has some "in class assignments" so show up to get the points. Tests are tough...do the reading and take the notes. I'd ask someone else for help tho. He's not very clear.
Very nice guy and very helpful. Take notes and do the reading and you'll get an A.
Not easy to hear during lecture, monotone voice, makes subject boring. Difficult tests, unwilling to work with missed assignments due to family emergencies
He is very soft spoken, sit close or his monotone voice will be lost in the crowd. He seems to talk in a circle and although he tires to answer your questions he never really gets to the point before moving on.
Routine powerpoints every single class. It was hard to focus on what he discussed because he talked about every psychological term in the most scientific way possible
Nice guy! Lecture attendence is a must because of the notes...book notes. Study your notes and you'll get an A. This class is easier than all of the other Psy classes I've heard of.
Really nice guy. Attendance is manditory but his slides are clear and understandable. Talks really quiet so sit up front. Sometimes goes into more detail than needed but the tests are based directyl off of the review sheet so if you study that you will be fine. 1/10 questions comes from the book so skim the chapter. would definitaly reccomend
He is very hard to understand when he speaks. Monatone voice that puts you too sleep. Not very much homework, 60-80 question test that are only worth 22 pts. total. His tests are hard to understand, and he ws not very helpful when I went in for help. HORRIBLE PROF!
HORRIBLE PROF! Drop A.S.A.P. Was not helpful at all when i went in for help with this class, very awkward when I spoke to him one-on-one. If you take him sit in the front and pay attention, and you still wont catch or understand what he says. WORST PROF AT GVSU!
There were four exams that are your whole grade. They were hard because they weren't about anything you talked about in class. My Grandma passed away at the end of the semester so I missed two classes and he wouldn't email me the slides. He doesn't use blackboard so I wasn't able to contact another student either. Worst prof. I've had!
Very nice man and excellent professor. Uses powerpoint and does not post the slides. I believe its his way of motivating you to go classes. I enjoy the class activities he does every so often. Exams are hard but fair. Most of what your tested on is lecture stuff and about 20% is from the textbook that he did not cover. I would recommend him.
He was a fair professor. If you pay attention in lecture and take notes you'll do fine. He does pull a few questions from the readings, but they are about major concepts. As long as you do the reading, they shouldn't trip you up. Just study and this is a fairly easy class.
Great teacher. Is soft spoken but just sit up front. If you go to class take notes and pay attention you will do fine.
The Walter Sa I was with from high school is indeed without a doubt probably one of the best professors any of you will ever have.He is bright, caring, and passionate about what he knows and wants to teach. I feel blessed I had him in my life for 8 years; you should all feel blessed he has been in a part of yours. MC.
Good professor. Sa makes the class very fair and the tests are relatively easy. There is an easy 12% to your grade because it's either in class surveys or out of class ones. The tests have about 10 questions out of the book that he purposely doesn't cover in class. Just do your part and go to class. There isn't much hope if you don't go to class.
Professor Sa is awesome, and very easy to understand. Everything is clearly lined out for you, and he gives awesome test reviews.
he was very rude to me when i needed help. emailing him multiple times and never getting a response. couldn't make an appointment because he wouldn't email me back. very boring lecture! probably the biggest waste of my time and money. i would recommend to take a different prof for this course.
The BEST professor ever! Very clear and easy to understand. He is also extremely organized and sticks to the slides! If you pay attention and show up for class you will do great. He explains the material wonderfully and doesn't lose focus.
Demanding but Excellent prof. Don't take if you want an easy class. Do take if you want to learn a lot. Lot of work, but I feel like I really got my money's worth. Great course if your thinking about graduate school since he really has high standards. Very nice man too.
A good professor. Very structured and thorough lectures and i found it easy to pay attention in class
Great Prof, the exam reviews are unspeakably helpful. These narrow down the studying and help organize thoughts. Going to class is mandatory in my opinion simply because filling out the review sheet is significantly easier with the notes compared to the book. Reading the book is helpful and can ensure an A in this class.
The lectures were long and boring. He is kinda mono-toned, but he knows what he is talking about. The tests are almost impossible if you don't study a considerable amount of time.
Don't listen to the rude comments about this professor. He is so helpful and nice. He cares about his students. You will learn so much!
Super boring class. Very hard to stay focused during class, it's easy, but the class is so so boring.
Excellent prof. Not an easy course and you will read a lot if you want a good grade. Nice guy to. I felt very comfortable in his class and he never calls on individual students just lets you answer or ask questions on your own comfort level.
He can be boring, but it's more that the class material was boring. He made things really easy to understand and gave out helpful review sheets for the exams.
Long lectures that often seem boring but he knows what he's talking about. Exams match up with his lectures and readings very well but are challenging. Study.
Sa can be boring, yes, but he uses great examples and explain things very well. Just study hard for his exams and you will do fine.
Lectures every day with powerpoint, take notes (on your computer is best) and just look over those heavily and key terms and you will do well on the exams. Take it, its not an extremely hard class. Doesn't take attendance but there are in class activities that are points.
By far the best prof I've had. I only wish I had taken this course earlier because he explained some stuff so well. I never really understood what an interaction was in my research methods class and now I get it. He has a very nice smile and was really helpful when I had questions.
Pretty boring class a lot of the time. Not terribly hard though. He wasn't very helpful however.
I love this professor! I always thought there was something strange about some stuff in my Ed classes and he got us to read and think about research that conflicts with it. I would not say it was a very hard course like other students have said, but it definitely was challenging. Very good looking guy BTW.
Sa was an amazing professor. He is very clear and is able to break down the material into really good examples. He actually takes the concepts of Ed. Psy. and applies them to his teaching which more of the education dept. profs should do!
He's a really nice guy, but his notes do not make sense. I took AP Psych my senior year of HS and I had a much easier time and it was over the same material. This class is a struggle, and the tests are in depth, way past what we learn.
He was not a very good professor. He is monotone and is hard to understand. Overall, I wish I would have a different proffessor. His notes don't make sense and his examples are irrelavent.
Nice person. Monotone speaker, but the class is fairly easy compared to other psy classes. 5-6 assignments + 4 exams and a short paper. I'd recommend taking this class, even if you just need a psy elective.
Great professor and I loved the course. I found him very helpful when I asked him questions about class. The course was hard and I would not recommend it if you want an easy grade
Great professor. His lectures can be a little boring but he knows the material very well so if you breakup the lecture with questions, the resulting discussion can be quite enjoyable. Even 3 semesters later he still smiles and says hello to me whenever we pass, so he does take a personal interest in his students.
Love this prof. He is an excellent teacher. The downside is that he expects you to learn a lot too. Not an easy course, but cognition is just not an easy class.
Sa is a nice guy. He uses language that makes the material seem a lot harder than it is. If you take perfect notes, you will be fine for tests. It is not an easy class. It challenged me a lot but it was very engaging and worth it.
his exams were difficult you have to actually know the material discussed in class and do all the reading to do well in this class. lectures are sooo boring
I am a psych major and have already taken all other required psych courses (including advanced research methods and capstone). However, I had a difficult time interpreting Sa; he made the material seem much more difficult than it had to be. Not an enjoyable class (I think) because of the professor.
Professor Sa knows what he is talking about. He seems a bit nervous in lectures but is a very smart man. Attending lectures is essential because he uses powerpoint but does not put the slides on Blackboard; also, reading is a must. If you review notes and actually read, the course is very easy.
Sa's expectations are reasonable, he doesn't give out busy work, and he really tries to help students learn the information. You do need to attend every lecture because the notes are not online. Take good notes, study the examples he gives, & look up the info he tells you to and you're set. I don't read all of the chapters & my grade is still great
I didn't like Sa. He didn't always respond to emails and never once posted grades. It's hard to pay attention in his class. He's very monotone and he didn't present the material in an interesting way at all. I did great in all my other classes but his. avoid him.
I really enjoyed the course material and thought it was really interesting. He only lectures which can be a tad boring. He's fairly nice and everything is presented clearly.
If you want to succeed you must attend class and read. Take good notes in lecture and you will be fine!
I loved Sa! Honestly I don't know how he got any of these negative ratings. Lectures are clear and to the point, he types up elaborate notes and give you everything you need to succeed. Cognition is difficult but he made it enjoyable. You just have to choose to be interested and do your part as a student. Helpful, clear, awesome man.
Horrible professor. Do not take this class if you're pursuing psychology, he will make you rethink that decision. He's extremely hard on grading, and lectures in a monotone voice all class.
Going in I thought his class was going to be difficult...but I ended up getting a 98. Pay attention in class and read the required readings and it's not difficult at all. Attending class not necessary but his in class stuff is s=usually on the exam. Out of class hw easy points and his exams were pretty simple.
I am a psych major and this was my first psych class at GV. Almost changed my major after this class, his voice is monotone during the lecture and his exams are extremely hard. Has a 40% fail rate for this class. DO NOT TAKE
By far the worst teacher I've had at Grand Valley. The way he grades is very uncommon to the point he don't even post grades on blackboard, if you have him as an professor I highly encourage you to change before it's too late!!!!
I had Professor Sa for both Cognition and Educational psychology. At first I found his class to be very difficult. However, I chose to change my attitude about the course when I realized how helpful he was. He truly does want all of his students to understand the material and will do anything to help you succeed. Very sweet, approachable man.
Walter Sa was one of the worst professors I've had at GV. This class was Educational Psychology, and was NOT educational. He uses the same power points as he does in his Cognition class, and the main focus is cognition where this was not that class. This is a required class for ed majors, so SWITCH if you can. He is NOT beneificial at all.
Excellent, excellent professor. It's kind of sad how refreshing it is to have a teacher who is well-prepared and clear, but oh well. Engaging lectures with simple and clear Powerpoints for easy note-taking and study. Assignments are challenging but not overwhelming. Super helpful and kind with any questions.
It's no wonder he has a bad reputation among psych students. His PowerPoints are jumbled with unorganized information, and his exams are not any different. The assignments are relative, but the final paper requirements have little to do with the course material. When you ask a question all you get is a circular answer.
I found this class to be really tough. I am a psych major and still struggled with it. I typically don't read textbooks yet I did for this class. I found his exams to be grueling. I went to every class, but the material just never clicked with me. I don't know if it was his teaching style (he is super monotone) or my own fault, but it was hard.
Cool guy
He's a smart guy, definitely knows what he is talking about. His study guides only cover what is from the lecture, but he will make 15% of the test form the reading.
He's a really nice guy, but I found the material tough (and I'm a psych major). Lots of assignments, but nothing too challenging. Exams are really difficult though; multiple choice was decent, but the fill in the blanks and short answers were difficult. Go to class if you want a chance at a decent grade.
This is a difficult class in general, but I find Professor Sa to be a very good professor. You just have to pay attention and actually take notes. I only glanced through the textbook on occasion to clarify some concepts, you will need it though as he does assign some questions from it. I honestly do recommend him, I got a 98 with the curve and ec.
I enjoyed Sa's class and but do understand some of the negativity here. Exams were difficult and most of the grade was based on them. I did really well in the course and it surprised me because I originally thought I would not. His review of the first midterm made me understand exactly what I needed to do. I wish I could have Sa again.
I really liked him, A little monotone but a very nice guy who I never wanted to let down. You can tell he cares about the students and understands them.
He is a sweet man and nice n patient to students. His lecture is interesting and learned a lot. But the exams are tough and need to study a lot. He rarely offered extra credits chances. Make sure do all hws and study for exams. Worth to take it.
Professor Sa was great. There is only one short assignment in the beginning and four exams throughout. You are also required to participate in four studies. The final is not cumulative which is really nice. The only bad thing is that if you don't do well on anything it greatly impacts your grade, but all in all I would recommend.
People seem to really dislike him, but I didn't mind him. He is very monotone and hard to pay attention to sometimes, but he is very smart and knows what he is talking about. His tests aren't impossible if you study. He's a little confusing but if you ask for clarification he's more than happy to help. He really cares about his student's success.
Expalins topics clearly. In class activities are given that help your grade, so you should go to all classes. Assigns readings, they help clarify topics but it's okay if you don't read them. Very helpful when you ask questions. Study guides given saying exactly what will be on tests, if you know the study guides tests are super easy.
I absolutely loved professor Sa! Although his lectures can be a little dry, they are very clear cut and easy to follow. He does give out assignments, which can seem annoying, but be sure to do them because they help out your grade! His tests aren't bad either, they follow his study guide to a T. Overall I would take him again!
Professor Sa is an awesome guy. Some people didn't like him because of his monotone talking style but I really enjoyed it. He gave great explanations and examples for all the information so learning was a breeze. Tests were not hard at all. In the beginning of the semester he tells you everything he expects of you and he sticks to it 100%.
I have learned SO MUCH from Dr. Sa! He is someone who talks a little fast and makes you work for you great. But, if you are someone who is up for a challenge in order to learn a lot and get the most out of your money, then take him! You will need to read the textbook and go to every lecture. If you do those twot things, you'll be fine!
Cognition bores me to death, so Sa has managed to keep me awake so far. If you take PSY300 before Cog, you'll be mostly set for the first exam. You have to read the assigned chapters and articles. You write a short paper about every week answering provided questions. His lectures are easy to understand. He's understanding, so feel free to ask q's
Walter is a genuine dude. He's really nice and explains things well. What I dislike is his exams. They are extremely difficult, especially the final exam. Short answer, fill in the blank, and multiple choice. The (filled out) study guide for the final ended up being over 16 pages and it is an unbelievable amount of information to try to remember.
Dr. Sa is extremely smart and impressive and knows a lot about his field! He does give out homework to do but they are relatively easy and make for easy points. The exams were extremely difficult to me! The 5 page study guides were off-putting and made focusing on the really important things difficult. Study, study, study and ask for help!
I found this professor to be really unclear. His lectures and exam reviews will not help you on tests or homework. there is a lot of little papers usually one due every class so make sure to keep up and be organized. I hated how people talked during class and he did nothing. He knows his stuff but I don't think he likes teaching. Exams are so wierd
Best professor I've had in the Psychology department. I wish Saw was teaching research methods next year. Hard tests, but he is a very kind man when you talk to him.
Professor Sa is the most organized professor I have ever taken. It won't be the most entertaining class in the world but you will always be aware of what you need to do for assignments, readings and tests. I highly recommend taking him. He is a very good professor and you will learn a lot without ever being overwhelmed
By far the best professor I have ever had. I took him for PSY101 as well, and he is great. Gives study guides for exams, almost completely over the lectures. SO ORGANIZED. Love that about him. You always know what is going on in class. I have never missed a class of his because I so thoroughly enjoy them.
Very nice man, but gives boring lectures that seem to go on forever. Does offer reviews for each exam and the final is non-cumulative for PSY101.
It's super important to go to class because his lectures are usually what the exams are on. He is super caring but has a monotone voice which can be hard to listen to. He really knows his stuff and tries his best to keep the class engaged. All in all a super caring guy, but lectures can be a tad boring.
I really enjoyed Dr. Sa's class. He is super organized, really knows his stuff and very clear with what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. Cognition is not an easy class, but I loved this course and often think about material we covered outside of class time. Dr. Sa is a very nice person too.
Professor Sa was very monotone and boring during his lectures. However, he is knowledgable about the subject, and very passionate about it. Going to class is a necessity because he puts most of the lecture topics on the tests. You have to read the textbook outside of class because he puts a few of the reading questions on the tests.
He drags on at times but knows the material very well and adds graphics and videos to try to make it more interesting. There are assignments about every other week but you always have plenty of time to complete them. He narrows down what you need to know from the textbook which is nice. His exams are difficult but he always gives study guides!
Best professor I've taken at GVSU. Provides a clear study guide for tests, goes over the material in great depth in lecture to make sure everyone understands it, and is very willing to talk with you outside of class if you have questions about anything or just want to talk about psychology in general. Would recommend!
Overall a great guy! His voice is monotone and will put you to sleep, lecture slides are not available to you, you must attend lecture, loads of reading, you are graded on attendance and exams. Class is confusing, study guides are not efficient.
Dr. Sa overall was a great professor! His tests are difficult, but as long as you read and study every thing (and I mean everything) in your notes, you'll do great! Short assignments almost every other week (which are really easy) and their graded on a no-credit credit basis. And only one paper which is just a journal article review. Nice guy also!
Great professor and great class. My favorite thing about Sa is how well organized he is. I feel like I was really challenged, but in a good way. Would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn about how the mind works.
One of the best peofessors I've had at Grand Valley. He's a great guy, easy to talk to, and will work with you with any problems you have! Tests are difficult, especially the final, but they are fair.
One of the best peofessors I've had at Grand Valley. He's a great guy, easy to talk to, and will work with you with any problems you have! Tests are difficult, especially the final, but they are fair. Take him you won't regret it!
Walter is the best!!! He is such a nice guy. He gives study guides for every exam that cover basically all of what is on the exam.
There were 9 homework assignments throughout the class, which seemed like a burden at first but were very interesting. I like that he provides copies of some of the slides from his presentations because some of them contain a lot of information. He provides a list of things to know for tests which is helpful. He was one of my favorites.
He really knows his stuff, but his exams are extremely tricky. They are worth 70% of your grade and there are no quizes. His study guides are mainly definitions, but the tests are not. For the short answer questions, be vEry specific; write as much as possible. He aslo gives time consuming homework assignments each week worth 1.5% each
Walter Sa has to has to be one of my all time favorite GVSU profs. He gives amazing well organized lectures. He makes all the information needed for tests well known and easily accessible. He gives amazing explanations to complex topics and really made learning a fun and interesting challenge. He is what all professors should strive to be.
I loved Walter Sa. He is an amazing professor. He lets you know exactly what will be on the exams and teaches the material super well. He's super good about clarifying and making sure you understand. Yes, he makes it so you have to go to class, but he really makes class interesting. Great guy
Probably the most well-organized professor I've ever taken. Powerpoints are not posted, but lectures are well done. Content is interesting and he knows the material above and beyond the class. Assignments are usually relatively short and not too difficult to handle as long as you stay on top of them, which he reminds you of all the time in class.
Love Dr. Sa! Super organized. Real smart. Learned a lot. Nice guy.
this is a nice professor!!!!!!!!!!
FANTASTIC PROF. The most organized prof I have ever seen. Very passionate about Cog Psyc. The toughest part of his class is it is only out of 100 points. So you have to be very careful on how many points you get docked on EVERY assignment and test. The test are tricky, just go over ALL notes and the readings. Overall, LOVED Prof Sa fantastic prof
He's a good guy and you can tell he is interested in the topic but his teaching style is very hard to follow. His slides are made well and he is organized but he does not lecture with any enthusiasm and his monotone voice makes it hard to follow along. I got distracted very easily in his class.
He is a very smart professor. He does not "dumb it down" in class which makes it hard to follow sometimes. He is VERY organized and tells you exactly what will be on the exams which is nice but the content is difficult to understand in the terms he uses to explain them. He gives good examples/videos to help but it is still difficult to comprehend
Don't bother buying the text book. It was over 100 dollars and we used it probably twice. Overall, I thought the tests were a lot easier than I expected compared to the lectures. He lectures for a very long time and has a monotone voice, but he's always willing to answer questions and was overall pretty nice. Just a boring class in general.
Great teacher. Dr. Sa was so well organized and presented difficult material in a understandable way. I liked how he always worked the homework assignments into class presentations with perfect timing.
Sa is a great person who is always open to help his students. His voice is so calming it was hard to focus during lectures. They also drag on a lot. There are many assignments throughout the semester, but they're okay difficulty wise. The tests were very difficult. He isn't a bad professor by any means, but I struggled with focusing on the content.
definitely can see that he must have been a philosophy minor because what you learn is tied in with a lot of philosophical concepts. He's a nice guy and all but definitely not good at expanding on difficult content, also not so good at responding to emails either. if you aren't good at testing don't take the class. Also grade is made up of like100p
Professor Sa is a solid choice. I took him for PSY365 and got an A-, partly because we went online halfway through the semester. The tests are hard and the lectures can be dry, but he is very clear about what in lecture will show up on exams. I learned a lot of valuable information from him as a prof!
I took his hybrid class. I only ever used the textbook if I didn't understand something from the lecture (wouldn't recommend spending the money). Kind of a matter-of-fact type of guy, but not mean. VERY lecture heavy, so be prepared. Lot's of lecture assignments. I recommend filling them out as you watch the lecture (less time consuming this way).
Worst professor ive ever had. He is harsh with grading, we have weekly assignment based off our lecture videos & he looks for a specific answer and how much you write. I emailed him multiple times throughout the semester asking for help, therefore, he was not understanding at all and compared me to other students. I am one that usually does well.
Great professor. Very smart and knows what he is talking about. You do the work, you can get an A. Overall nice guy and smart professor.
I would avoid Walter at all costs! He is a tough grader, and gives one assignment per week and two quizzesboth of which were hard. I think most of the class mustve done poorly because he didnt do a final exam and randomly gave extra credit. Also, did not respond promptly to emails at all, and would respond with 2-word emails. Do not take him!
Professor Sa was a great professor. People dont like him because they may not get the best grades on the weekly lecture assignments. However, if you put in the work, you will succeed in his class. He very organized and such a nice man. I personally loved having him as a psychology professor. I recommend having him as a professor!
Dr. Sá over communicates and is very clear about his expectations so as long as you follow along itll be easy. Its definitely homework and lecture intensive but he makes it very interesting and understandable to learn. I definitely recommend taking a class with him if you can!
This professor is good for lecture and is very good at explaining concepts. He is also very good at presenting but one thing I was not prepared for what his unfriendly feedback/emails. I wrote him emails asking him for help on a concepts I was marked incorrectly on in the homework and his emails back were not very nice. WARNING.
No trouble for a while, but is horrible on respect for students. Lectures and textbook use were ok and could understand the material, but not to his liking. Not willing to help students better understand wrongdoings and was not respectful to student confusion. Great professor for content, but not by any means for respect and working with you
Dr. Sa is the most organized professor I have ever had! He is very clear on the assignments and the lectures. He always provides opportunities to do office hours, meet outside of class, or even during the lecture for questions. He is very caring and passionate about his field of study. Pay attention and you will do well! I definitely recommend him!
Hes an alright professor, the lectures are long but he does try to make interesting and keep his students engaged in it. He does recoded his lectures so you can always go back on them. There will me an assignment after his lectures and you have a week to finish it but they are pretty easy if you go back and watch the lectures
This class is easyyy if you have taken AP psych before. He does not give out a lot of homework, just some small assignments that have like 4-10 questions on them. They are very easy. The tests in this class are a big chunk of your grade but you have to be willing to study in able to get a good grade. Overall his class is not that hard.
I loved Prof. Sa, but his class is a lot of work. You get what you put into it. He has lecture assignments weekly and reading assignments biweekly to make sure you're doing everything you should be. There are 2 quizzes and no final, instead there's a final assignment that's worth 5-10 points depending on semester (mine was 5).
The course is a lecture class but Prof. Sa's lectures were never not engaging and content full. He goes at the perfect pace and makes sure everyone is finished writing stuff down before he moves to the next slide. Theres very few assignments but they're all extremely easy. He's very clear with instructions but is easy to access for questions too.
His class was very fair. I am surprised by the negative comments. There were 9 total HW assignments, most with 8-12 questions. The hardest aspect of his class was the midterms, they are worth 75% of your grade. TBH just study. He went over his exams question by question and showed where the info was from after, so you can't blame him for failing.
Dr. Sa was a pretty good professor. His lectures aren't the most exciting, but I learned a lot just by paying attention. Grades are heavily dependent on exams so just study the material given in lecture and you should be fine. Also, do the assignments he gives because it can help boost your grade a bit in the end. Overall, a good professor.
His class was very fun I would take it again
The lectures could get a bit boring at times, but I thought the class overall was pretty easy. Basically if you take good notes during lecture, do the assignments, and study a decent amount for the exams you should be totally fine. He gives study guides, extra credit, and curves all of the exams. I'd say he's a pretty solid choice for PSY101.
I had never taken a psychology class before this professor. It was a great experience! The class is centered around his lectures and about 20% is on the book. Exams are a big piece of his grading, so are the almost weekly assignments. As long as you pay attention to lectures, you can have them done before class is over. Tons of extra credit too.
Professor Sa was honestly one of the better psy professors. Your grade is primarily based off of 3 midterms and 1 final and those are super important - doing the assignments helps and make sure to just do the reading. He records his classes so i rewatched them and then did my notes and that helped my test grades! Hes really nice and emails fast
Prof. Sa was average at best. PSY 101 is a hard class, but if you don't show up to lectures or don't read the textbook you will not pass. His lectures are very long and monotonous which makes it difficult to stay engaged. If you want to do well in his class I HIGHLY recommend connecting with other people in the class. Tests are difficult as well
exams are hard. I got covid a week before sem 1, didnt respond until the day of the exam to tell me what to do. Bad at responding and closed me out of blackboard.
I'm not going to lie to you this class was very hard for me at first, but by the end of the year I finally started to get the hang of it and learned to love it. The first thing to help you is read the lecture notes after the lecture and make sure you understand them. The tests are hard but if you know the information then it should make it easier.
I have struggled a lot this semester with family issues and sickness but he has been nothing but understanding and will to work with me to make up things that need to be done.
This class packs in a lot of information and knowledge within a semester, which makes the tests very hard. All tests questions were difficult due to their specifics listed in the question, and the similarities in the answers, so really study hard. I don't suggest this class for non-psych majors/minors, at least with this professor.
Walter Sa's classes were very information driven and is also very willing to slow down and help students who did not understand. PSY 101 the content itself is very boring and unenjoyable but professor Sa is an overall good professor.
I went to this professor for help in his class and he sat down with me and helped me figure out what I need to do to improve my grade and be a better student. His material is difficult but he makes an effort to get you to understand it. If you ask for help he is always willing to help.
Prof Sa was OK. His exams were extremely hard (IMO) and his lecture material was lengthy. He was semi-flexible with COVID policies. I wouldn't recommend him as he wasn't very personable or above and beyond with anything. Also, the class was out of 100 pts which was hard. Exams were 70% of grade.
Professor Sa made me nervous for the class when I first met him and he explained it but to be honest, he set us up very well for the exams, explained what would need to be covered, and also had amazing lectures I could really focus on and enjoy.
His tests are very difficult especially if you have never had a psych class prior. He would send out study guides and I used those to study and most of the terms on the study guide were not even on the exam. But I will say his homework assignments are fairly easy if you go to class and take the notes. Again, his exams are difficult so study!!!!
Professor Sa is my favorite professor in the psychology department. Very knowledgeable and willing to meet outside of class hours if you need anything. Tests were difficult, but everything was covered during lectures. There is one paper and a short presentation toward the end of the class that most people did well on.
Professor Sa is a good choice, just a little boring. He's very clear on what he expects of you, and is a very kind and understanding man. Assignments are graded for participation, and his tests can be tough if you don't take the time to prepare. His teaching style requires a bit of a learning curve, but otherwise is very straight forward.
Lecture heavy class with about an assignment a week, 1 paper and 3 exams. Expectations are very clear and you will get an A if you follow along with his announcements. Assignments are graded on effort/completion. Exams weren't bad if you took good notes and study. The class moves pretty slowly in terms of content/lecture material but in a good way.
Overall, a well-informed, organized prof and class. Bi-weekly assignments which are graded based on if you read the material. Have to read a chapter a week which is doable. Offers extra credit after exams and gives a thorough study guide for each exam. Instructions are very clear and he is always willing to answer questions.
Excellent prof. I learned so much in this class and Dr. Sa was so helpful with his time. There was a lot of reading and you do need to put in the work to get a good grade but it was well worth it.
This was my favorite class so far at GVSU. I was a bit worried the first few weeks that the material would overwhelm me, but I was amazed how well organized and presented this class was. The material was so interesting and professor Sa was excellent.
Walter cares about his students and does a good job lecturing on the material. Advice: take great notes! He uses lecture material on his tests often. Don't miss a class. He always emails back, and I respect his view on the subject matter. He is obviously well read in cognitive psychology, and it shows in his teaching.
Overall I would say that he was a good professor. This class is lecture heavy, but he was always there to answer questions as needed. However, the grading scale is only out of 100 points for the whole semester, so definitely do all of the little assignments, study for exams and don't procrastinate on the course paper and presentation.
One of my fave professors at gv. I've had him for two classes now. His classes are very organized and straight forward. He's a clear grader and gives you the time needed for things. Super understanding as well. Very responsive to emails and flexible. Offers extra credit after midterm to boost grade a bit!
One of my fave professors at gv. I've had him for two classes now. His classes are very organized and straight forward. He's a clear grader and gives you the time needed for things. Super understanding as well. Very responsive to emails and flexible. Offers extra credit after midterms to boost grade a bit! Grades fair! Wants to see you succeed!
Super organized professor with interesting material. Was always willing to help.
He is a great professor! He is extremely organized, always does a short review on what we covered in the last class, doesn't cover much material per class so it can seem slow but you really get to fully understand and keep this information with you for the rest of your life this way, what he says sticks and he's great with answering questions!
Easy short homework assignments, interesting lectures. He's not personable on the surface, but he's pretty nice. The exams can be challenging; multiple choice + written portion. Definitely need to study and know how to explain concepts. One large research paper on a topic of your choice + presentation, but it's pretty easy. Class is very organized.
Professor Sa's class was well-organized and engaging. The material was challenging but manageable with consistent effort. Unstuckstudy AI was a great study aid alongside the textbook. Overall, a rewarding experience that I'd recommend to other students.
He seemed like he wanted to make psychology hard. Wants you to purchase a book and not GVSU saves. Also had a 8 page power point and 5 page syllabus the first day of the winter semester. I dropped his class asap and got a new psychology professor.
Psych 101 with Professor Sa was great! It was very lecture-heavy, but everything he taught was on the exam, no surprises. He encourages participation and doesn't give much work outside of class. He does give pop quizzes but they aren't graded, he just uses them to check attendance. Great course!
If you attend class and study you should do fine in Sa's class. Exams were hard, but he grades on a curve and is very fair. I found Sa also very helpful when I had questions.
Kind of a lot of content and I found the tests to be super challenging. He gave out "study guides" but they didn't help. Don't purchase the book because I didn't look at it once. He reminded me of the teacher from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I felt like no one payed attention during his lectures, kinda old-school in the way he taught. Meh at best
If you don't go to lecture you will fail this class. Content is very lecture heavy, take good notes. He genuinely has an interest in the material and in you passing the class. 30% of the overall grade is basically participation, with multiple opportunities for extra credit. Homework is very minimal. Exams are big but he grades on a large curve.
he actually knows what he is talking about i really respect that. it is very lecture heavy. tests are curved which is great
Sa is ok, and was helpful when I had questions. His entire class time is lectures and the exams are on what he said in lectures with some content from the book. The exams are hard, but he grades on a curve. Take good notes and dont skip class. He gives extra credit options and one assignment a week which is easy.
He was my favorite professor for my first semester at GV. He is very passionate about psych, which makes his lectures more interesting. Be sure to go to class, as taking notes is very important. Exams are hard but attainable, and he grades on a curve.
I learned a lot in his class. It was a lot of material covered in lecture but Sa presents it so clearly and does an amazing job explaining it. It was by far my best class.
