extremly clear, to the point, goes over many examples on the board, the tests are hard but he prepares you for it,to earn an A you have show him that u deserve it.His tests usually contain 9-10 questions the first 8 question are usually very easy but the last question would kill if you hav'nt studie
very nice easy clear professor for physics. if you are science major take him for sure, he is very clear in giving lecture and his test is straight for his note and examples during the lecture. in addition to that he makes you laugh all the time with his great way in explaining all the aspects in physics.
His class is very easy. I don't know about Unversity Physics. But i took Physics 201-202 with him in summer. It's very easy to get an A if you study his notes and do his hw. Exams are straight foward from Hw and his lecture. Before the exam, I spent only 2-3 hours to study; i got bot A's in his class. When you don't understand something on the exam
This guy is unfair. He gives students that he thinks are special an A, and on tests, all he does is take off points untill your grade goes down to a really bad grade. He is so picky on grading exams. He does not give his students EQUAL opportunities to PAss, only the ones he likes!!!!!
If you study the notes and do the homework with full attention, you will get an easy A in his class. He is very fair and gives a lot of partial points on the test. If you are a good and responsible student, he will let you to retake any test that you may fail. Good Luck!! :)
terrible, very bad. Don't even think about taking him!!!!
He's a very good teacher. Pros: Very clear and knows exactly what he's talking about. Fair tests and even gives partial credit. He gives you more than one example and knows how to apply it to life situations. Cracks jokes and is always in a good mood. Cons: Although he speaks very clearly, he teaches pretty fast. Overall: Very Good.
He is very knowledgeble about the subject. Tests can be hard, but he gives some points if you attempt the problem and don't leave it blank. Labs take longer than scheduled and involve a lot of work. He covers a lot of material quickly, but explains it well and repeats important topics. Gives reviews and problem sessions. Overall a good professor.

Fast. Covers a lot of material, but has extra hours for homework sessions. Seems to hate lab, but otherwise a great professor, especially for this field
Great teacher. He has exceptional communication skills and makes physics interesting. IMO, his assingments are pretty easy if you are not retarded in math and don't miss stupid little errors like I always do.
Dr. Wimbush is one of my favortie professors. He knows everything and always trys to explain them very clearly. I took 201 and 202 with him and I got all A's. You just need to do homework and do sample tests, you will get an A. Very easy! I strong recomend him because he is the knowledgeable teacher I ever have
At the beginning he's at a slow pace, but at the end of the semester, he has to cram everything for the final! DON'T take his lab if u can avoid it. his lab is very disorganized and very time consuming! take his lecture coz his notes are great and he's very nice and generous.
he is a great teacher, he explains step by step and clearly. and gives you a good idea what he will bring on his exams. i ended up with B, because for the first 4 weeks Dr. Stanchetva messed me up, with the two first exams, i also ran of time at the final. other wise i would get an A in the class.
Dr. Wimbush is very intelligent. His class is super easy. Guaranteed A if you study hm and his examples. Tests are so easy if not he will definitely curve it or something. Always gives partial credit on tests even if you get the whole thing wrong. I had phys. 201-2 and got A. But try to avoid his lab.Not hard but too long and extremely frustrating.
Professor Wimbush really knows his stuff and teaches in a very organized way that you can easily understand. He gives you real life applications of Physics so you can understand the material better. I was very lucky to get him as a teacher compared to Proff. Stantcheva. I would definitely recommend him as the best Physics teacher nova has to offer
High energy guy, likes to cover stuff quickly, takes too long to explain labs. If he had used his grading scale, i feel I would have done worse, but he used stancheva's and it worked out well because his doesnt drop a test, has a ****ulative final, & doesnt use online quizes toward grade. however, he does curve somewhat. can be rude to stupid kids.
Dr Wimbush is a very cleaver teacher and he is very knowledgeable in his term and he is a very organize professor. Even though he is taugh and his quizes and his exams are hard and varries for iach student, but he is very fair and makes Physics fun and intersting, and if yu study every day and keep up with his lectures you could easily git an A.
A very good teacher, explains everything, he knows the stuff on his fingertips. He is not really strict on labs as well. Definatley, would recommend to everybody trying to learn physics and getting a good grade.
Always late-- sometimes even an half an hour or 45 min. late. Great for engineering majors, may be really difficult for those who are not. Extremely energetic and intelligent, can be too cocky.
Very fast, the examples in lecture are easy. Hw is hard and exams can be very hard. This class would've been a lot better if his website was updated. His "hw solutions" are the solutions to the older book and his exams for 231 are actually the 202 ones. Grading toward labs and hw is lenient but that doesn't mean much if you can't do well on tests.
He is very knowledgable. He knows his stuff very well. He makes the class exciting and fun, so the students would love to learn. his exams are hard and doesn't give enough time, but he grades very fairly, and gives lots of partial credit.Just turn in yur homework and lab reports and do well on exams so you'll be fine.
Much better than Jensen in Annandale. He is "ALWAYS" late even on the exam days. An A if you read the text, do the H.W. and do the lab reports. Tests are not that hard if you study the notes and the text. But, you have to study for an A. It is not an "easy class" He curves the test a lot.
He is a great teacher with a very interesting personality. He does move a little fast but he always keeps your mind going and entertained. Be prepared to do all your homework, lab, and attend all lectures and you should be ok.If you want to pass the course with happy face take him! he is very funny guy too :)
I loooove and love Prof Wimbush. He is the best instructor in science I have ever had! very kind wwith nice personality.. like his students and always available for help...just sometimes he is late but its ok:). his tests and HW are not that easy BUT he curves the test a lot to help students! if you want A" you should read his notes only. take him
One of the best professors I've ever had. He makes the lectures extremely interesting and will make you love physics no matter what your studying.
Only he gets to tell the jokes in class which are never funny. Most students laugh because they don't want to fail his class. He thinks of himself as an Einstein of modern day,in that case he should be teaching at MIT or NASA not NOVA.
i took physics 201 and 202 with him. he is very clear when he teaches at a slow pace but when he teaches at a fast pace-i dont understand most of the things he teaches. physics 201=EASY physics 202=Boring and a bit difficult Overall- he is a good teacher :)
I had read all the comments about him and i thought i can get an easy A but dont even think of getting A without hard work.He goes so fast over the course and made us cry.if u r a good student u might get easy A but average students can only try not to get a D. U will be welcomed to get a C. Good luck because most students only come to listen his j
If you are expecting an easy A, think again. This is a challenging class, though he does a really great job simplifying the topics. Tests are medium to hard. Study and you'll do fine. Curves grades. Very nice and made class interesting (coming from someone who could give a hoot less about Physics). I recommend him.
Very challenging. The vast majority of the class bombed the first 3 exams. I withdrew. Tests are extreme application, very little like examples from notes. Goes very fast and gets annoyed very easily.
excellent
He is an awsome professor. I totally recomend him. This class is an easy A only if you study his notes and do something of the hw problems. if you think he is going fast then ask him questions or go to his office for help. he is very helpful :)
nice guy who is extremely helpful and will work with you until you get it. you have to do the homework and study but otherwise it's a fun class
Tests are extremely hard and tricky. Sometimes the questions are just impossible to figure out, and sometimes they are ridiculously easy. He gets easely annoyed and often refuses to help or answer questions
Proff. Wimbush is an energetic proffesor who can communicate well during lectures. However, just like people say, he doesn't answer questions. He is not approachable if you are dumb. He is very disorganized, late to class, late to lab, and doesn't follow the grading scale in syllabus. HE DOES NOT CURVE IN 231.
He is an excellent lecturer, and you get a-lot out of attending them. He emphasizes basics in examinations, labs involve following procedure/ applying simple theory correctly. He is lenient with lab reports and offers worked out homework problems for reference.Take Dr.Wimbush if you have a good work ethic and want to learn. He is an excellent Prof.
Prof. Wimbush is an excellent teacher and I would definitly recommened taking his class. I struggled through it because Physics in general is a hard class for me, but if you really study you'll do well in this class. He moves pretty fast and sometimes it's hard to keep up with him. Otherwise, I would recommend him!
Really smart man, knows what he is teaching, lectures are thorough, he truly cares about getting this information out. Sad to see that so little students do. Doing the homework and paying attention during the lectures will do you good. He provides extra credit, and the labs will bump up your grade. Taking him next semester!
take him if you want to learn and are ready to devote most of your time to physics. lectures are helpful only if you have read the material prior to class. he goes very fast and does not answer questions. the tests can be somewhat hard and he does not curve
I'm so sad I had to withdraw this course due to a personal a dilemma. This professor is the best physics professor at NOVA..TAKE HIM (he's funny):)
He makes physics hard. Yes, he is funny does funny skits in class but he does not explain things. If you raise your hand, he literally ignores you. Quote, "I see your hand but i'm gonna ignore you", HE goes from 1 board to another filling it up and if you don't keep up, you may get confused. Def not a good teacher. He's funny but not helpful.
Be prepared to write and not stop until the class is over. His exams are not similar to homework, but it helps on exams. The final is not cumulative, but it still covers alot of material. Wasn't able to finish the final in the time allotted. He is helpful, but can be condescending at the same time.
He's is really good at teaching physics but his exams are hard. Labs are easy doesn't take pionts of lab reports for mistakes.
Coming into this class, I could say I hated physics. Now, I understand it and I like it. Wimbush was great, fun and easy to understand. Go to class and pay attention! His tests are from the notes, but no hwk. Easy labs. Take him! It's the only class last semester that I didn't fall asleep in :)
Dr Wimbush is very knowledgeable person. It is easy to get an A in his class but he gets easily irritated.
Dr. Wimbush is a great Prof. He explains things well, and has review sessions before exams. His exams are standard. Lab was great, and I am taking him for 202. He is funny. :)
I have nothing but respect for this guy.My alltime fav teacher.Great personality. SO much energy. Challenging.Phy wiz.this guy is so sharp its incredible. he has the complete course material memorized. like no notes varibles and equations. His lect are great/entertaining. kudos "on making phy fun"best at alex.take him!!!(hard exams/generous grader)
I HATED PHYSICS BEFORE I GOT TO HIS CLASS!He makes physics understandable &easy to do. Don't need the textbook he uses examples from his head, so make sure you bring lots of paper. Exams are decent, lets you redo it if you dont do well.Don't take his lab, he makes you write lab reports and sometimes makes the lab harder than what it is in the book.
I enjoyed the class--he really knows his stuff. Do not expect to get out early (5 min. over on average). Dr. Wimbush comes up with fun problems and pretty interesting lectures. Take good (fast) notes. Give him any accommodations you may have way ahead of time. Slow to return emails. I would take him again.
Clearly the best teacher at NVCC. If you show an interest in physics outside and beyond the scope of the classroom, he will love you. I have already graduated from NVCC and still go back almost every Monday and Wednesday to see him. Take him if you're a physics or engineering major, you will be totally prepared for University.
Awesome teacher! Explains concepts really well and shows examples of EVERY type of problem. Tests are not hard, but you have to study his examples. If he writes it on the board, take notes! The only issue with him is time. Always runs over time and is usually late. Labs not bad, and reports are simple. Pay attention to his examples and get an A.
Everyone seems to love this guy, but I pretty much resent him now. His lectures are way too fast paced, he assumes you know all of the little details that make a huge difference, he's kinda condescending when he teaches, he's VERY unorganized, his hw is hard to find an harly matches what he covered, and doesnt respond to your email. NOT A FAN
Study and do homework!!! That is the easiest way to pass his exams. His lectures are super fast so be prepared to take notes. Labs are easy A. I struggled in the beginning but he helped me figure it out. Ended up passing with a good grade.
He is by far one of my favorite professors. Dr. Wimbush is very intelligent and loves what he does. His lectures are very important, so attendance is a must. Plus, he notices who shows up and tries, and who doesn't, which I am sure he takes into account when you're 2% away from another letter grade. Take him but be ready to study and do homework.
hard worker
He knows physics, but is a poor teacher. He consistently shows up late to class & then holds his students late. He writes his notes quickly during lecture & doesn't like to stop to answer questions. His lecture notes are confusing. He forgets to 'open' his online HW & then assigns multiple HWs all @ once and all due in 1 week. Bad @ returning email
Dont recommend him. Late to class/then holds his students late. Writes notes fast and theyre confusing. Doesnt answer questions in class an if he does his answers arent helpful. Doesnt really respond to emails. Online HW that he forgets to assign so he gives you a bunch due in 1 week. Doesnt really prep u for his tests and they are hard, trust me.
My boy had him for 231 and said Wimbush was good and I should take him for 232. Big mistake. Maybe he was good teacher last semester or back in the day but now he's not. His class notes are written fast and are confusing, he shows up late, he dosnt like email. If you have to take him use Stantcheva's notes. google "nvcc, stantcheva". You're welcome
he assigned online homework during final exam week. i took the final for the class and then had to go and finish my homework. i still dont undersand how having hw after the final exam helps you with the class.
Class was generally easy. The material can be difficult, but the professor spends a fair amount of time on explaining it conceptually first, and doing lots of example problems second. All of the tests come straight from the example problems he does, so if you understand those, you should be fine.
so bad so bad. you might as well not show up to class, just go to a tutor during class time.
Not good. I wish id taken someone else. His classnotes are bad and his tests are pretty terrible. He does not like to explain stuff to students.
*Tends to leave late *Shows up late sometimes *Explains things really well *Uses default online homework
He is a great professor. Very clear and organized lectures. Labs were not hard. He expects you to study hard. Exams were not that hard, he goes over similar problems before the exam. Just don't miss his lectures and you will be fine.
He is good with physics but does not teach it well. He rambles a lot and gets off topic. If he gets behind in lecture he will rush through and not answer questions. He is bad at getting back to your emails. Dont take him.
perfect professor and humorous. If you study hard, you will get a higher grades that you can't expect.
Awesome Professor, helps a lot. Knows about what he is doing and how to deal with kids. Definitely recommend it to other students.
Do not take him. He just writes a bunch of stuff on the board and does not answer questions. I went to his office hours a couple times and all he did was tell me to read the text book. I did not learn anything in his class.
He's a very fair grader, if you show your steps in the problems and even though you get it wrong he still gives you points .Be expected to leave class late, test are not hard must do textbook examples and be ready to self study. I Recommend you attend his morning sessions in the tutoring center . Best luck!
He's a decent teacher, and I like how most of his lecture is just going over how to solve problems. However, exams would often have problems that he DIDN'T explain and were very difficult. Also he always starts late/leaves late. Frustrating.
He his a great teacher, and clearly knows his stuff. Classes are spent going over problems, which I found was the best way to learn. His exams mostly follow with what is taught in class, but not always. Only down side is that he is quite disorganized and often starts lectures late, going over time at the end of class.
Don't take him. He's boring and not very clear during class. His lectures are almost completely useless. He's not helpful when you go to him for help. Just do yourself a favor and pick someone else to learn Phy 232 from.
This is the worst teacher. comes to class late and takes extra time the end of class to finish the lecture. very rude and disrespectful. he gives attention and grades based on weather he like you as a person or not. very moody. very unorganized. you will not know how you are doing in class because he don't post anything on BlackBoard.
Not good. Writes lots of equations of the board. Doesn't use power point. Gives online homework and not helpful during office hours. Really hard tests that he doesn't teach towards during class. Don't take for Phy232
He is a great professor. Physics is a hard subject in general, but he makes it seem easy. He works a lot of examples on the board during class, and the exams are similar. The labs are pretty easy as he explains the whole thing before hand. Homework is assigned from the textbook and is more of a completion grade. Will take him again for 232.
Spends the whole class writing equations and doing problems on the board. Assigns homework problems out of the textbook due every week. Lab is not too difficult as he will walk you through the process and theory beforehand. Tests are based on examples and homework problems. However, there is critical thinking required for many of the exam questions
He knows his stuff but he sucks at explaining. He's very rude when you ask him questions. He's always late and extends class over time. His tests were easy. Just do the worksheet. He is not clear with his expectations. Not -a good teacher at all. Skip class and study on your own because you won't learn anything in his class. no office hours.
Professor Wimbush's main concern is to show people how to do physics problems. He's almost always late and goes over time. His lectures are kind of boring because he spends majority of the time doing problems. DO NOT RELY COMPLETELY ON THE WORKSHEETS FOR TESTS, TESTS ARE MUCH HARDER. Labs and lab reports are easy, lowest you can get on it is a 80%.
His lectures are very long but he makes sure everyone is understanding. He's very caring and will allow retakes if you did poorly. Overall very funny, and always tries to make jokes throughout lecture. You can tell he knows his stuff and lovesss teaching. He gives out study guide for each exam and he'll go over the questions with you if you ask
Dr. Wimbush is one of the best professor when it come to physics but get ready to read a lot. I personal I don't understand the way he teach but I watch a lot of you-tube lecture that help me out. when it comes to grade he is reasonable and he understand even if you try you get some partial credit which is fare. also one of the lowest one he droop.
Just attend all classes. Get atleast B's on each test, do all labs and lab reports. You will surely get an A! Do the study guides as well and use the flash cards he allows you to bring in class handily ;)
This is my first time writing a review because this professor is worth it . For Phy 231 he 100% makes you work for your A. Exams were hard but his grading was amazing. He gives partial credit so show your work you will get credit. Gives 1 take home or retake. Phy 232 he is way easier and gave us many take homes. Labs are easy for both. TAKE HIM!
1/2: DO NOT TAKE HIM! He gave us 4/5 take homes this semester because he was ill for half of it. Pretty much if you submit something, you get an A (for lab, hw, exams, etc). Getting an A is pretty easy, but he's snarky, rude, and unfair. If you're pre-health or engineering, you won't learn anything and it'll be detrimental in the future.
Prof. Wimbush is a funny guy but I didn't really learn anything in his class. He was ill this semester so had 3 take-home exams and an in-class final. He doesn't like grading so he gives everyone an A on labs & worksheets. If you actually want to learn something, don't take him.
He's somewhat snarky as others have said but in general I feel like this class fulfilled the community college stereotype, meaning that the only way one could fail is by not turning assignments in. Anything we turned in received full marks. Majority of tests were take home, so obviously not challenging. I got an A but literally learned nothing.
Doctor Wimbush is a really great guy. Hes not like all your other professors that care about only grades. Hes more of a Hands on guy which Means he likes to do demos and would rather show you something than lecture about it. His class is really interesting and makes exams very fair.
He is a very knowledgeable physics teacher. He always has one more example on hand, and makes physics entertaining to the students. I especially like his life-like examples, and his demonstrations in class. However, he focuses a lot on problem solving, without thoroughly explaining the theory behind it. Still, he is caring and his test are fair.
Prof Wimbush is very knowledgeable and is always willing to expand on concepts if you have questions. His in-person lectures are organized for the most part, but the quality certainly diminished when we transitioned to COVID. He derives more into theory as you go through 231 and 232. He doesn't respond to emails very quickly.
This is one of the best professors I have had to take. the class is really easy and if you study and prepare, it is definitely an A for you. I would take his class again if I had the chance.
he just doesn't know how to teach online. he literally talks to himself. we can't see what he writes because his camera is blurry! and to add to that, he gives a whole lot of homework. since there is no lab, he also tells us to do unimaginably hard experiments at home! and he grades those lab reports harsh. on what criteria? no IDEAAA!!!!
Professor Wimbush does a great job explaining all concepts of the course. The comments you see about his class being hard arent true. The hw are due every week which arent hard and he posts the solutions so theres no reason to not get a 100. The labs are very easy and isnt a harsh grader. Tests are straightforward if you do the hw/attend class.
Professor Wimbush is a great professor. Tests counted for 65% of the grade, labs 25%, and worksheets 10%. He's a really easy grader so as long as you do your work you should get an A.
Prof Wimbush is the bomb!! Was really hesitant and nervous going into PHY 202 after a bad/traumatic experience I had with PHY201 with another professor but this class immediately pacified my worries! This prof is a really easy grader, gives easy exams, worksheets, and labs. Definitely recommend him!
Best teacher please take him. If you do really well on exams and homework u should be able to pass with an A or B
Super easy. But he is unorganized. Never clear on due dates. I had a full time job and never attended lecture, but they are recorded. Takes attendance but not for points. Labs are to the point but lab reports are annoying. Just make sure you turn in all assignments and you will pass. He is not a hard graded just wants you to do the work, and learn.
Professor Wimbush was great, I was not great at Physics in High School but Professor Wimbush was easy to understand and the assignments and tests were easy, if you pay attention you will succeed in the class, don't be afraid to ask questions! He is not great with technology so have a little patience if you email him or something tech related.
I took Dr. Wimbush way back in the day. This course provided the basis of my engineering degree, foundational. I know this is a really old POV however, he will guide you as YOU grapple with the material
Sadly it is his last semester but he was a great teacher some things where a little confusing but he was there to help great teacher overall especially for online.
