best calc teacher ever
Best math teacher.
Very good professor. Great at teaching. Take notes and study you'll be fine. Use the study guides.
he doesnt finish problems and it makes it difficult to understand where the problem is going. he knows his stuff th and all in all not a bad teacher.
Going into Math Structures I, I HATED math and ran from it every chance I got, but Yoder made it fun and interesting for me. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about math...I recommend him if you have to take math, whether you like it or you hate it, you will love it when you're done...BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD!!!!!
he does a good job explaining new material. goes over all material the class before the tests. tests are always easier than review!! only flaw is he doesnt finish problems and tends to skip steps. he is a great teacher tho!
Best calc teacher ever! makes hard stuff seem so simple. wonderful teacher!
Great teacher! I really like his teaching style and wish that more teachers were as good as him!
really easy to understand and will help with any problems
Awesome teacher, he explains things perfectly in class, and has a genuine love for what he is doing, and gave me the appreciation for math that I have now. He isn't particularly helpful in office hours, however, and assumes that you know how to do the problem, you're just not thinking about the right way. In all though, best math teacher I've had
Great professor, very easy to understand, test's fairly the only thing i dont like is their all multiple choice tests i would recommend prof. yoder to anyone.
Prior to taking this course, I found math pretty difficult. Not saying I can breeze through it now, but he definitely helped me understand it a whole lot more. Visiting him in his office is also extremely helpful.
Great a teaching but tests very difficult. You will learn the material well but your grade may not reflect it.
I think I'm in love! He's an awesome professor! Teaches the material with such clarity and passion, simply admirable. You will always be required to study people. His tests are based on his notes really.
He is fair with grading and takes the subject very seriously so as a student you get your money/time's worth. However he treats the students like slacker kids which I did not appreciate as an adult student who works very hard. He gets annoyed often and never makes exceptions to be aware of that going in.
good teacher but kind of an ass if you have to ask him a question after class. the in class material is easy and he explains well, but tests are hard, and attendence is very important. hw assignment are online and due the day of the test. the book is only used if you do the outside work assigned which is not graded or gone over.
He is a great guy with sense of humor. Make your effort then he will not let you down.
Fantastic teacher. Classes were easy enough to follow. Grading was straight-forward. Loved how he handled homework; you got a set of questions to answer online, and could submit it any time before the unit test. If you get a low grade, you can retake it with new questions. He also *definitely* did not grade based on attendance.
Made class engaging. I looked forward to coming to class, and any time I was in a bad mood, I'd forget what was bothering me. He teaches by examples, and will answer any and every question. Going to attempt to get him for Calculus as well. If you have trouble in Math but want to improve, take this class, you won't regret it.
Horrible, never again. No help, did not care...Just to many test, in a short period of time.Rushes to between math problems.
Awesome teacher. Clear and concise. Put in the work and earn your grade.
I had him for Math 160 & 180 & he made both classes easy & surprisingly fun. Considering I spent most classes fantasizing about him & still got A's in both speaks to his teaching skills!
The best math teacher I've had, and the hottest one too. I got distracted so many times just by looking at him, but still managed to get a good grade.
Very straight forward about grading and work required. Presents material very well and keeps the class engaged. Provides an hour of review before exams which are very helpful (Similar problems on test). Gives review packets which are also very helpful. A lot of work but not over the top. Would recommend to anyone.
I haven't taken a math class in seven years when I took Calculus with him - fortuantely, he was very clear in explanations and prepared you well for his tests by providing a copious amount of review material. He never surprised you and questions were fair, though occassionaly challenging. Highly recommended - one of the best math teachers!
Professor Yoder makes difficult concepts easy to understand. He doesn't grade all homework, so it is on the student to complete optional assignments which are EXTREMELY helpful. He does not give extra credit or bump grades. He is a little irritable, but besides that he is truly a knowledgeable and helpful teacher.
Good teacher but a huge ass when you ask him a simple question. Not on campus much so getting a hold of him is tough. One thing I really hated was that he'll teach you how to do a problem wrong thinking it's teaching you a lesson but in actuality it just confuses you more. Not super helpful and is not afraid to fail you
Acts very distant to the students, not very nice. Does not allow the use of graphing calculators. All the tests are multiple choice so no extra credit. Final also mulitiple choice.
To quick when teaching, does not care about the students.
Pretty good if ya don't mind doing lots of examples in class, tests are short and relatively easy. will help if you need it
Prof. Yoder is the best math teacher I've had. He's clear and concise. During class he'll put important information on one side of the board and all the examples on the other. He's intelligent, knows what he's talking about and will answer any question you may have. It's important to check over your online homework before submitting! No phones!
People who skipped regularly failed or withdrew. People who came regularly got A's and B's During class he teaches all the material and goes over examples. Starting basic and easy and then increasing in difficulty to that which will be seen on the tests. Yes, he does not offer extra credit but most teachers don't anyways. His pace suits the course
I took him in the summer, I don't know what he's like in a normal 16 week semester but its a give and take way he teaches in a 6 week. The work is relatively easy and he explains things well, the downside is that his pace of teaching is completely erratic and I feel as if it was "too simple" and I'm worried it didn't prepare me well for Calculus 1
He's completely uninterested in students, seemed very uncaring. Many in my class we're debating wether or not he was a monster, robot or both cause he's completely lacking in emotion. His online homework is unreasonably difficult compared to HIS lectures.
Professor Yoder is a great teacher of Calculus and provides the tools, resources and knowledge to learn Calculus. To succeed in Professor Uoders class, one has to show up to class, pay attention, do the assigned homework and prepare for tests by completing the review packets he makes for the students. Professor Yoder teaches clearly and precisely
Yoder is the best Prof I have ever had. He is very specific about what he expects for his students and doesn't go back on his word. If you do the work, and apply yourself it is an easy A. He tests are multiple choice. He does many examples which are helpful. Everything he teaches is helpful and useful for passing the course. No busy work.
Ive had 2 other math professors and Yoder shines on top. He has certain expectations of his students, its all in the syllabus-read it. No time to socialize, class is short. He teaches fast, but puts lots of examples on the board and explains it well. Show up, make an effort, do the homework, and stay off your phone. He will help you, just ask.
He breaks down the material to a very simple logic. He also talks about how stupid students are(that's why we're students: to learn!) I enjoyed how he dumbed down the course for us but I didn't like his condescending attitude. His test are fair. Try to do the homework, because if you don't, you'll probably fail.
I was enrolled in a different class, but switched to his class the second day of classes. Every question I asked him, he responded with "it's in the syllabus". He is not willing to answer questions about office hours, or anything else that is included in his syllabus. He teaches well, but is frustrating to work with and rude to his students.
Took the same class in high school, took again here to get a better grade for when I transfer. I had a B+ when I went into his class, leaving stuck with a C-. Doesn't pay attention to students requests, called my basic last name wrong the whole semester, even with corrections weekly. The class was downright terrible, didn't learn anything more.
Not a very nice teacher, has no sympathy for students. Gets annoyed when you ask questions. Not really sure why someone like this would become a teacher....
He's a great math professor. However, he is a no nonsense type of guy. He's extremely straight forward. He really dumbs down the topics. This was my 2ndtime taking this course and I understood everything. If youre the type of student to learn by seeing examples, TAKE HIM. He doesnt just teach he SHOWS you. Do the HW and review packets! It matters.
Fantastic professor! He knows what he is talking about and structures his class in a way where he knows exactly where he wants to be each class. If you have problems just ask him. His tests are very fair, as long as you do his review sheets, online homework, textbook problems, and come to class every day, you will do very well.
I had professor Yoder for math 150 and calc 1. Mr Yoder is a very knowledgeable person, his lectures are well structured and his review packets are extremely helpful on tests. I was never a good math student and failed math 150 the first time I took it. After taking it with Mr Yoder I learned a different approach to math and now in calc 2.
Gives very helpful lectures and great review packets to study for the tests. His tests start off very simple, but surely increase in difficulty. The final was very hard, but his teaching abilities and the amount of opportunities you have to raise your grade throughout the year still left me with an A.
Very good professor. He isn't easy if you aren't putting in the work but if you are you shouldn't have a problem. He clearly define his expectations at the beginning of the semester and answers 99% of your questions ahead of time so he has very little patience for people who don't pay attention.
Yoder is a really funny guy! A very structured professor who is easy to learn from and gives you plenty of time to ask questions during his office hours!
i really liked him as a teacher! the homework is optional for the most part but it really helps when it comes to test day. He lets you ask questions and explains it over if you need it. The day before a test he goes over the practice test and goes over any questions you might have. I strongly think you should take his class.
A great teacher. His sense of humor is really nice
I love that he advocated for the free textbooks. I think that's evidence he cares about his students. His hybrid class (online lecture, in class work) was awesome. I could go at my own pace for the lecture, and clear up any questions in class.
Best math professor I've ever had, clearly states what he expects of the students. it's easy to do well as long as you show up and listen. I would recommend this professor to anyone and everyone.
Professor Yoder is a great professor, as stated he tells you what he expects in his class. He is direct, forward and to the point, and why shouldn't he be this is college. Has 5 test for the the semester and 5 mandatory online hw. He also gives a review packet for tests and goes over it the day before tests! Would recommend! Just dont miss class!
I took the hybrid class which ended up being my favorite class of the semester. Watch easy to follow lectures on youtube and then do the homework in small groups in class. He was always there to help or clarify if problems came up. I would definitely take him again. (HW more important grade, tests were de-emphasized).
Best Math professor I've had in my college career. He has a very no nonsense and direct approach to teaching the material. Make sure you attend the lectures. If you miss a few classes you will get behind. Tests had no surprises and were very close to the review sheets that were provided.
I personally dont like this professor. Writing for those making classes for next semester. It depends on how you learn, not a good teacher at all. Knows his stuff but doesnt convey it very well at all. He does give test review sheets before the test, and if you know and can figure it out youll do well on the test. But not a good teacher.
He is a great teacher.
BEST TEACHER !!
Easy to follow, as long as you're in class. Don't skip this class or you will miss lots of material. Great professor, easy-going.
If you are not a math person, Yoder will be a difficult professor for you. He assigns mandatory, non-graded homework that is necessary if you want to understand the content. He goes quite fast through the material so ask all the questions that come to mind. As long as you keep up with the work, you should do fine, but that is easier said than done.
An excellent professor that has a clear grading criteria and is way more lively and interactive than most professors I have taken. I highly recommend him out of all Calc professors, you will not regret.
Do yourself a favor and take him. He breaks things down as simple as Calc can get, honestly. I thought I was going to hate Calculus but his lectures are very interactive, and he wants everyone to understand the subject matter, which have made it easier on me. Dont skip class or youll miss a lot, hes pretty fast paced.
Definitely the best math teacher I've had.
Best professor ever! Tests are super easy as long as you study.
Professor Yoder is great. Go to class to learn the material. DO the difficult review sheets, that is your KEY TO AN A. If you need help, go to office hours, it really helps. The HW is quite hard to. This is a tough class especially Test 4/5 and you really have to work for it. Study old tests for the final, he changes numbers but questions are same.
Goes over review packets before tests which greatly improves test grades
Professor Yoder is a good professor, and he knows his stuff but he goes very fast, and doesn't always explain where he gets his values from, unless you ask. His availability is very limited. His tests are hard, unless you're good at math, don't be fooled by these other reviews that say they're super easy because they're truly not. Good luck.
He is a great professor. Helps in everything a lot.
Took the hybrid course of his class, definitely dont recommend if you are a person who needs someone to explain what you are doing. I struggled because of it but overall he is a very approachable teacher. he gives many extra credit opportunities. its definitely a 50/50, depends on the type of student you are
Yoder is good. His tests are difficult and made up of 20 Q's (18 multiple choice, 2 short response), but he does give good review packets. If you don't study those, you will have a very hard time. He also doesn't give that many examples when demonstrating in class, but he's helpful. Nice guy, would take again.
He really knows what he's talking about, and will help you in any way he can. He can be a bit "cut & dry" in terms of his email responses and grading policy, but he's not mean or anything, he's just a straight-forward guy. I had him for Calc 1, and there was a lot of material but it's not difficult to do well as long as you do the pre-exam reviews.
Easy A.... Test review is the answers to the test... litterally he just switches around #s. Tests only 10 questions each and he is very bad at online communication/learning... stick to inclass lectures for help
Good professor, knows what he is talking about like the back of his hand. He gets straight to the point, and throughout the semester he was really helpful with answering any questions we had. Class is pretty easy, just do the HW. The HW is the majority of your grade and it's set up so as long as you try, you will be on your way to a good grade.
He is a great teacher! He is always there for you to ask questions and the course is very straightforward and organized. He is overall very helpful and very nice. If I have the opportunity to take another class of his, I will in a heartbeat! You won't be disappointed with him.
During an incredibly hard year, Professor Yoder definitely made this course a lot simpler than it could have been. He was extremely helpful and forgiving with our whole handing assignments in process. The materials weren't too complicated, and even when they were, at times, Professor Yoder prepared us in advance.
Professor Walton B. Yoder is amazing! If your afraid of math or doubt yourself, dont be and take his class!!!
I got a better grade in this class than I did in my algebra 2 class(high school) that I was taking at the same time. All in All good teacher and easy class.
It's covid, and we are 100% remote. You never knew what kind of mood the professor would be in, and that came across in the lecture, but I hold no ill-will for that. I'm sure he had all kinds of outside pressures like we all do. I'd like to take another class with him in person. Respect the rules and syllabus, and you will have no issues!
Professor Yoder wastes no time during zoom sessions, his precise teaching and explanation of topics you need to learn to be successful in the course. He encourages students to use the resources given adjacent to each chapter, and constantly reminds students of his availability. *Ask questions he is very prompt with responses through email.
Not an understanding professor when it comes to real life situations, always expects perfection. Doesnt explain stuff in a helpful way. Would not recommend if you want to actually understand how to do math.
If you wish to succeed at HVCC and need to take Precalc; do yourself a favor and take Professor Yoder. Students who do not procrastinate and are willing to learn will get at minimum an A. His office is open often, he actually knows what he's teaching, and explains where and how the things you learn in his class will be useful in later classes.
Enjoyed every second of lecture with Professor Yoder. Definitely recommend him as a math Professor.
I took Professor Yoder's 6-week summer web-remote precalculus course. This was a "flipped" class: you studied from the textbook on your own time and the entire lecture was spent answering students' questions about the material. The textbook was a Lumen OER and all work for the course, including exams, was done on Lumen, unsupervised by the prof.
This class is simple but you are mandatory to show up and get all the work done. Expected to know everything after going over it once. Cant ask questions because everything Is "online"!
Wonderful professor! I have never been successful in math before this course. Professor Yoder really gets you to understand the work. He will gladly help anyone who asks. He is straightforward and knows what he is teaching. I am an adult student, and he is the professor that I hope my children have someday. Wonderful professor.
Very straightforward teacher. Homework and Quizzes are all online, and the only in-class work is exams. He gives extra credit for tests and quizzes, and the review assignments are practically identical to the exams. Overall he is a very professional and easy-to-understand professor.
I highly recommend Professor Yoder!
Professor Yoder wants you to succeed; that much is clear from the first day in his class. I took Pre-Calculus with him after a decade-plus gap in my educational career and though I was worried I'd struggle he made sure that I was comfortable and confident with the material. My only regret is not being in his section next semester!
Very straight forward about how to get the highest grade possible in the class. Lectures are going over the homework questions, tests/quizzes are completed online at home(other than the final, midterm). Very easy course material that anyone can grasp. Ask questions!! Go to class if you struggle with math at all.
Professor Yoder made math easier to understand than any other professor I've had. It was easy to view each assignment and he had walkthroughs for most questions to help you. He also gave us practice tests which helped a lot. In class he'll walk you through each problem and also had class time for students to ask specific questions about problems.
Unprofessional, if you are not an exceller math student and math is a hard subject for you be warned. If you need help and ask a question as a student would not only is there hardly a helpful answer visibly little effort on his end to help.
The assignments are straightforward, and the tests and quizzes are straight from the homework and review materials. Relatively easy to achieve an A.
He is so good and helpful
I took Precalculus in my first semester of college. I will say I did learn a lot in this class, and he did teach things well. The tests were hard no matter how much I studied, but I think that was more on my part. He wasn't interested in getting to know you, didn't even learn our names or say hello.
Took Professor Yoder's class and found it straightforward, with homework and exams based on review materials. Made great use of Unstuckstudy for study prep - really helped me ace the course.
Threatened to take off a letter grade if you missed more than 3 classes even though the class was spent working on HW in silence. I was sick and missed the quiz and I asked if he would drop it, and he said "It's unlikely to affect your grade". He didn't lecture but was fine at answering questions.
