This is an anti-american left wing radical teacher, will assign tons of anti-american reading, and he is impractical in the amount of work he expects you to complete.
Very good teacher; extremely knowledgable about subject. VERY IMPORTANT to study extensively for tests... expects alot of material to be covered and memorized... hard class, but interesting and interactive.
Really good teacher, it was a pretty tough class, but always interesting.
He is a good professor that is very knowledgable about what he teaches. He also expects you to contribute to the class, work hard, and learn something before you leave. This class offers different perspectives on significant political issues.
Teacher is very liberal and if you start a conversation with him in which he does not agree he will change the subject. Very boring and monotone teacher.
Dr. Schinke is not a very fair professor. First of all he thinks he knows everything, so debating him is a lost cause. Stalin would consider him too conservative. When you disagree with him, instead of taking the time to properly annunciate his points
Schinke would consider Stalin and Saddam Hussein way too conservative. He is insulting and if you disagree with him he changes the subject. Schinke is a perfect professor for those who are brainless drones.
Sadly, I would not recommend Prof. Schinke to my worst enemy. He is arrogant, rude, and extremely one sided. Thinking outside of his box is never allowed! Opposing opinions are met with belittling sarcasm.
My god...First of all let me start out by saying the class average for our tests were D to D+ his tests are multiple choice/or essay, he makes it seem like there is more than one answer to each question he dosent explain things clearly and he gives out alot of homework! stay away from this one!

He lets his political views influence his teaching too much. If you don't agree his ultra-liberal views, you'd better be ready to put up with a lot of guff. This class almost gave me ulcers. I would say avoid him, but the other PoliSci instructors at RCC aren't much better.

HORRIBLE teacher. Very one-sided, arrogant and unfair. If you take his class, take the essay tests, because the mulitple choice is way too hard. That's the only way I got an A.
i enjoyed Professor Schinke's class. I had no understanding of economics before I took it, and he was very helpful in getting me to understand it.
Very one sided and tests are very hard usually covering questions that are ambigious and aren't covered in lecture or in the books for that matter, If you're stuck with him, take the essay tests, your chances of passing are much better and they don't require you to be as specific.
To put it bluntly: Horrible teacher. It has past weeks since the end of the class and he still has not graded our first paper. Prof. Schinke is very biased and not helpful at all. He presents only his point of view

First off, he assigns like 4 books for his class, which I only used 2.He is an ultra-socialist who wishes he could go back to days of protesting everything. He has a very monotone voice that could put anyone to sleep. You should avoid this guy like the famine
By far to worst teacher I've had. He gave me a four mounth indoctrination on ULTRA-left idiology instead of an education. All required esays must be based almost exclusively on his provided materials, which include Moore's "Stupid White Men" which sounds imbias compered to the other material.
It's been almost a year since I had "the Schink" and I still dispise him. His class was so lame, biased, and he hates others' opinions. It was the only "C" I ever got and I barely got it. (class average = 68%) "Schink" is a love child between Ben Stein and Hitler. The class is evil. Don't take it!

This teacher is very hard. I failed his class because all my opinions were not actual facts. He is an arrogant teacher that thinks everything should be his way or its the highway. That is completely true. Whatever you do do not take his class even if it is the last one available.
he can't teach his own class & he has the students do it & yell at you!!!!!! Not an understanding individual. If you've ever seen that show Carnival on HBO he looks like that priest: devil....
This class is easy if you kiss his ass and group grope. You wont learn anything but it prepares you for kissing up to your boss.
Dr. Schinke is a great prof. His a professor who lets you express your own opinion, regardless of political ideology. Critical thinking is expected from the material given out in order to get the class to think outside the box. His objective is accomplished when the whole class is debating about current issues usually never talked about before!
May I suggest his on-line class? I took it and got an 'A', so I don't know him personally, but I figure he's fair. His was my first on-line class and it's basically like teaching yourself. You have to have self discipline. The on-line course only required 2 books, and the quizzes you can print out after taking, study mistakes, and take over.
I consider my time in his class a complete waste. His class discussions are usually in the form of "framed questions" that are designed to keep you from answering in a complete manner. Completely unorganized and unprofessional. "I will put forth" he is not a competent teacher at all. Those that argue otherwise are the ones doing the butt kissing.
Take him on-line VS. taking his class. I took his on-line class. I happen to walk by his office and meet him. He was nice. I didn't do much of the reading, but there was more than one chance to pass quizes. I got a "B"
If you take Shinke be prepared to work your butt off, he is not easy but if you like to learn good material that you don't hear about anywhere stick to the class. More critical thinking that anyother class I've taken, but you endup with a different point of view at the end of the semmester. Do the homework and study before class,the best advise!

He has a very monotone voice that will put you to sleep. IF you work at it and pay attention the class is actually interesting. Basicaly if you like the subject then youll like the class. If not run b/c you will fall asleep.

Horrible teacher. Monotoned as all hell. Boring! Doesn't make sense at all! Unclear! I got through the class and I actually got a B but it was one of the worst winters of my life! Dreaded the class! Avoid this teacher!
Class is controversial.However,at the end of the semester you have a better understanding on politics.It has help me see things in a whole new angle,rather than what I normally use to do which was base my views on what I learned concerning politics over dinner.If you really want to know whats really going on in this sick world,take Dr.Schinke class
Completely one-sided. Will grade you down for disagreeing with him politically. He does not teach, he indoctrinates. Any disagreement from class makes him visibly upset. Essay tests are graded based on whether you take a hard-socialist-friendly (his) position. Keeps all grades subjective, preventing students he doesn't like from getting A's. AVOID!
Dr. Schinke is an exceptional teacher, he defintitely is very intelligent and knows his stuff. He is definitely VERY VERY biased in his lectures and materials. If anything, you will definitely getting a very clear understanding of socialism by the time you leave the class. If you cannot handle his socialistic viewpoints, then dont take this class.
This professor doesn't help you one bit to understand the material. Never got the idea what the class was supposed to teach the students taking it
He is a total socialist, just know that. His tests are difficult, you MUST know the reading, dont try to skim and get away with it - you MUST know word for word, also he makes you buy 2 books not just 1.
He puts a way liberal spin on everything. Any chance he can get to bash the government, bush, or military he takes. If you dissagree in your papers he marks you down. You have to buy three books and must read them carefully to pass the tests. Definetly do as much extra credit as you can!
The assignments weren't always easy but I have a better understanding about politics now. The class assignments weren't always easy to understand but after a bit they became easier.
personofies a new level of infantile liberalism, but excepts the chalanges (in appearance). unfortunately doesnt teach much actual economics in this class. he uses the student presentations for half of his teaching. you would learn more just reading a book. an A is imposible without some previous exp.
This teacher was one of the most difficult teachers I have ever had. He gives a lot of assignments and he uses group presentations for his lectures. I would have rather he lectured, but he relied on the groups to do his job. Even though he didn't lecture much, he had some interesting handouts and videos that he showed us.
Intro to Pol.Had to petition to get in,long lines of students to add class, thought he was a good Prof.He arbritarily,most biasly decides who he wants based if you raised your hand and spoke during the first half hour of his ntroduction.He is a difficult person.Raised my hand each time he CHOSE not to call on me.Avoid him at all costs!!Be warned!!1
Very biased teaching. He's actually a nice guy, but very opinionated. Class is interesting at times. Some people say he tried to do as little work as possible, I think he wants the class to be interactive with itself and openly discuss, but it doesn't work usually. Assignments are unclear. He takes forever to return assignments/quizzes. 5/10

Wonferful, Intelligent, and Brave is how I describe this professor. At the beginning of the class, I thought politics was only based on solely a two party system, and that its! Boy...was I wrong! Dr. Schinke teaches a course on politics that is provacative and daring. No other professor on campus dares to cross the line. Dr. Schinke does. Thanks.

Dr. Schinke is a great teacher with charisma and a very traditional approach to education. If you're looking for an Easy A, DON'T TAKE HIS COURSE! He's tough for a reason and he only wants serious students. Tons of reading, choice of essay exam or multiple choice, and lots of outside activities. Hard work!!
Dr. Shinke is very tough. He requires a lot of reading and homework. Especially, not a good idea for those of us who work more than half-time. He is a nice gentleman that wants everyone to care the information.
Great Intructor, buy yet a difficult grader. Prepare yourselves for hard exams... (you have a better chance @ passing the exams by taking the essay) Also, lots of reading (interesting articles, and text books)... Some people loathe him, and some people love him...
He is ridiculously boring, never has anything positive to say about anyone or anything, is incredibly vague with assignments and then lashes out when they are not completed in the exact way he imagined they would be, obsessed with punctuality (gives a long-winded lecture on the subject almost every class), tests littered with obscure/irrelevant q's
I took his online class... he is far less than helpful and really not flexible regarding anything. The multiple choice tests and quizes are really specific; If you take the essay tests he grades pretty easily.
hes a great guy. really funny. hes a very hard grader though. and he doesnt explain much himself so you have to read a lot on your own and study yourself. but this class was a lot of fun. he knows his economics very well. but his exams are difficult. STUDY for them

Oh my God... so much useless work. He is hard, but not in a challenging way, more like a "keep you busy" way. Tests are hard. He makes you memorize and does not encourage you to do any independent thinking. Boring as hell.
If you like professors who completely ignore you, set nearly impossible homework (by nearly impossible, I mean instructions that are hard to follow), are demeaning and sometimes downright mean when you finally get them to answer your questions, and grade you based on whether or not they agree with your opinion...by all means take this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. Weekly quizzes often featured questions on material not covered in assigned reading. Prof did not answer email or class discussion board. Chosen class material was good, but got next to zero feedback for guidance on assignments. With the crapshoot quizzes and lack of interaction, it's way too easy to damage your GPA.
Don't understand where others are coming from. Face to face class was very intellectual and though provoking. Not a cake walk for an A, but not impossible either. As with all COLLEGE (I'd underline it if I could) level courses, you have to read the material and come to class ready to participate. He knows his stuff and will help you if you need it.

Nice Guy, but a horrible educator. Be Prepared to work your butt off and living with the uncertainty of passing or failing. I earned an A, but I seriously walked out of there not really knowing any more than when I went in, unfortunately. Take someone else if you can.
Take this class if learning is what you went to school for. Being prepared and on time for class is essential to get a good grade. Too many people expect to waltz through this class. Just do your best and you'll get an adequate mark.
Make sure you sit towards the front in his class. He is very soft spoken, can be very hard to hear. Also has required activities outside of the class room. I kept to the MC exams because the essay exams were just too much. Takes forever to get graded papers back to you. almost entirely small group activities too.
This Teacher was hard! I mean hard! I made the mistake of taking an online class with him. He does not teach online. He leaves the class on auto mode and expects everyone to get by without help. I emailed him once, he never responded. He has never been active in the online class. I DO NOT recommend this teacher. He is more trouble then he is worth.

Prof. Schinke is very opinionated. America needs to be a social democracy, Russia was better under communism, and other such tenants are the key to the class - anything else will NOT be tolerated. He also is a very hard grader- on the retake for our first exam, he handed out 2 B's, and the rest C's and D's. No A's- and he said that he curved it.
He is an awful teacher. All homework assignment and test answers are his opinion, so if you disagree with his very socialist views you will not do well in the class. I am getting an A in my three other classes, but I'm scared about failing this one. He claims to push independent thinking, and then berates you in class if you disagree with him.

Professor only covers in class about 10% of what the tests cover. Tests cover much of the reading material. A LOT OF READING but no guidance.
ok I got a B...before each test he gives u a packet with info and if u read it you'll have the answers to the essays. On one of my essays he asked to keep my outline and said that my notes were better than his i said sure but then when i got my test back he gave me a D. He also has favoritism towards MUN students. He's boring and hard to hear
By far the WORST teacher I've EVER had. He talks about news for a good chunk of the class, he throws on a video, then expects you to know practically everything happening in the world. Tests are difficult, and he never passed anything back so you had no clue as to how you did or what to work on next time. I officially hate political science.
Schinke is definitely NOT for students looking for an easy A. He is very opinionated and does seem to "shoot down" your responses, but only to encourage more active critical thinking. If you're confident in your opinions, you shouldn't feel threatened by anyone challenging them. READ READ READ!! Most material is from the books! Great class!
Shinke isn't so bad. I think it takes a special kind of student to pass his class though. You need to be OUTSPOKEN and KEEP UP ON YOUR POLITICS. Also, be prepared to do lots of reading. Tests cover mostly reading. He doesn't remind students of upcoming due dates, but will help you if you ask. I love politics so maybe I'm being a little biased here.
Took this course during Fall '09. He is heavy into Model UN (advisor) therefore it seems his class falls to the wayside. Expects you to teach yourself from the text and group discussions little to no help. Actual class time seems to be spent on current events that have nothing to do with course. Would not recommend this class.
Very insightful professor - he knows his material very well. You need to work in this class. Read chapter prior to attending class.
Interesting material, but I took him online and he was virtually absent from the course. Took weeks to respond to questions. Took forever to grade papers and to post grade.
by far one of the worst teachers ive ever had.obvious he rather be elsewhere and is counting down the time, mono-toned, plays boring movies to pass time, and we never once read/discussed the book,should of told us, would have saved some$, oh and if youve been in his office is a disaster of piles of papers, will take time to get things back. Overall, the subject and the readings were great. HE, on the other hand, was a terrible educator and MUN advisor. He was very biased and rarely gave work back- so you had no idea how you were doing in the class. The only worthwhile part was a simulation- which he didn't participate in- which is why it was good. Avoid him if you can.

This class was by far one of the hardest class I have taken at R.C.C. You have to basically live in the library. I did and got an A in his class.
Pretty damn hard class. LOTS of reading and studying. I thought the videos were pretty good, though pretty liberal (Sicko, The Awful Truth). In class stuff is pretty much just small groups and lectures. Tests are essay or multiple choice, which are virtually just questions from the book. If your just looking to fill your units, dont take this class
Class material is interesting and valuable. He choose great readings but there are a lot of them. Does talk in a monotone voice and at a low volume. It takes him forever to return tests, which are essay. I didnt get my first test back until the day after my second test. Absorb what you can for yourself and dont let him put you off to the subject.
I honestly can not not recommend this professor enough. Talks in a mono tone voice, but demands that you scream. I rarely left class feeling like I learned anything. The only time that I saw him light up was when he brought up a topic of economics, which makes me feel like he may be a better echon professor. If you see him teaching politics, avoid.
This class is intense. Try not to have a political opinion before entering the class, follow him like a sheep and pretend to agree with his ideas. Read Read Read! Do all the papers, tests will be easy if you read the textbooks. He's really quite, so sit in the front, middle row, you can hear and he wont call on you as much.
Worst class I have ever taken prof is opinionated 2 say the least, boring, UNORGANIZED, unhelpful. The class consists of him handing u a massive packet of readings & he expects u 2 keep up with everything even though he doesnt. If u want a good grade in this class kiss major butt, often state how big business is ruining the world & praise socialism
OK, everyone who is saying he is hard and impossible get over it, we're in COLLEGE! Yes, there is a lot of reading, but he expects you to read and interact in the class. there are 5 quizzes and he gives you an option to take a 50 question multiple chose or you can chose to write 2 short essay questions. DO THE ESSAY'S!!! and you'll be fine:)
Class was pretty easy, gives two chances for quizez, same questions on Test (I chose the mulitple choice) Essay's are a bit much, however very doable. I waited to day due to do all and got B's. Hes not very helpful, takes forever returning work and to answer questions.
The last review was actually of POL 2 Comparative Politics. Sorry about that, but it doesn't really matter because Schinke doesn't allow you to compare political systems. Communism is absolutely good, capitalism/USA is absolutely evil. Don't waste your time with this Prof.
Pretty tough professor, but he also sets a standard for what SHOULD be expected of a college classroom. You HAVE to read, but the readings are actually pretty good, and the videos, although extremely leftist, are entertaining. The exam questions are given ahead of time, so If you make the effort you'll be okay.
HARD! Professor Schinke expects you already have a political stance and to be prepared to defend it. He's extremely liberal- if you're a conservative I recommend you don't take his class. Shoots down non-liberal opinions. He isn't very helpful or clear at all. Speaks softly- SIT IN FRONT. Class is hard but manageable. Do the HW & you'll be fine.
Stinke is awful when it comes to being a ready and willing facillatator. His preset agenda is executed with the helpful attendants efforts. Read write and compare. Shmooze your way through it if necessary. Model United Nations! For the competively inclined ;)
Save the money and choose another professor for this or any Political Science class. He is very disorganized and most of the term is a "mystery grade" until the last 3 weeks. None of the readings he gives are discussed in class for clarification; only tangents and "current events". Altogether the class is really only good for the people majoring.
What a boring class. The reason why I actually gave up my Political Science major and pursued something else was due to Schinke's class. Monotonous, boring, etc. Essays were graded on a biased scale. Don't waste your time and pursue a degree that has a better payoff.

I was an extreme right winger entering this class. I made it and he opened my eyes to our government. Best teacher I ever had. Not the easiest either, but truth comes with effort and is an investment in the future - our future. If you are lazy - don't bother with this class. If you want to learn something - by all means take this class. I got a B
Not a good instructor at all. I had him for an online class and he was so unhelpful and unclear. Everytime I had a question and e mailed him he would write back so informal and rude. His grades where always confusing and everyone in the class was always lost. WORST INSTRUCTOR IVE EVER HAD.

Took this class to be able to participate in the MUN club which is what it is most geared for. You'll learn more about that than the actual class subject. Several group work assignment & multiple choice and essay tests and lots of reading (LOTS). At the end you have to participate in a conference that simulates the UN. Not a very easy class.
I was fairly interested in politics until his class. He does not explain the subject matter at all nor tell you your grades. He is also very condescending and it is difficult to get a straight answer out of him. He is very liberal, almost a socialist, and his texts are also very controversial. He does not welcome differing opinions.

Comrade Schinke is the worst teacher I've had at RCC! He is lazy, indifferent, and closed minded. Mr. Schinke teaches his believes on how things should be and does not tolerate other views or ideas He is also very lazy and does not take grading assignment or test seriously at all. (got 1st midterm back the day before 2nd midterm)& longer for essays
Probably one of the worst teachers at RCC. He is careless about students. He is very opinionated and condescending if you don't agree with him. He is very liberal, and almost socialistic. He complains about how terrible the US is in all of his lectures (that is, when he decides to teach.) He is vague and arrogant. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
You should take his class if you want to learn beyond what's in the books. Not the easiest, but very informative about what events are affecting the world and economies. The best way to pass his classes are to read the books and materials, and do a little class participation.

I got a B in this class, but I worked my butt off. Not an easy class, but very insightful and thought provoking. Prof. Schinke knows his material and is helpful if you ask. As long as you read the material and can think critically, you will pass this class.
Okay, I'll try to be as objective as possible. First of all, Schinke has a seating chart for his classes. He assigns plenty of readings but doesn't specify what to read, and expects you to know what will be on the exam. I took three other honor classes this sem. and got A's on all of them, but got a C on this regular poli sci class thanks to him.
He knows about the world issues, he is professional, the course is just full of information. Better to take essays in the exams instead the multiple choice ones. I have learn a lot during his class. Thanks Professor :-)
Very difficult professor!!!!! He isn't up to date on current political event and show video on issues from 20 years ago. There is great deal of reading and isn't clear on what assignments to do. I received a B in the class but with a lot of hard work. I do not recommend for students that are full time! I was disappointed!!!
he tests people based on READING and lecture. essays should not rely on lectures or else you will get a bad grade. you can figure out your grade when he returns papers and will know where you are if you keep all of your classwork.he gives test questions ahead of time but doesnt tell you which ones he will choose till the day of the test. just study

This guy is a joke. Instead of teaching and giving a proper lecture, he makes groups of students teach the class. This is good in theory, except the students are often misinformed and he does little to correct them(us)! He assigns outdated documentaries and reading material. Ward Schinke is not challenging so much as he is just a bad teacher.
Had him for POL-1; very tough professor. Tons of reading (3 books and packets of articles). Material very interesting but he himself is incredibly leftist; not a problem if you think critically in class; problem otherwise. lol Not very fair in grading. Group work throughout year which is usually unhelpful. Overall, do-able but avoid if possible.
There are 3 books, plus packets of articles and handouts. He rarely lectures; rather, he relies on group presentations and movies from the 90's. When you ask him what to study his answer is "everything". He grades things extremely hard, and does not curve any grades. Our first test in the class, the class average was a D. Avoid him if you can!!

I normally don't write reviews but this teacher deserves a bad one. Im warning all students to not take his class if you are a student that needs help and a good GPA. Not just the GPA though, you will regret having him as your professor.
When confronted that a test answer marked wrong was in fact correct; I was informed that his socialist option was "more correct". Both were "correct" depending your ideology. He has an unnatural obsession with Central America that has nothing to do with his course work. You play his game, facts be damned, or you lose.
Dr. Schinke knows what he teaches, very helpful, he is alike to Latin America, you might think that he is socialist, but he is not, he just teaches what our history here doesn't want to show us. He is a nice guy, very strict tons of lectures, but if you persevere you would pass. It is not easy but his extra-credit assignments would help you.
How to Pass this class with an A is difficult, but very possible if you show up EVERY single class session, sit in the front(or close), and get to know him and be sure to be polite at all times with him. Do ALL the extra credit, and just work with his ideology regardless of a different opinion. DO NOT DO MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST, do the essay test.
In order to pass you have to read the book(s) for the class and participate in class discussion. If you go along to the syllabus and attend class everyday then you'll do fine. I got a B.
Class mandatory. Tough teacher. Why? He makes you think. Kids ask questions that are in the syllabus. Extremely knowledgable and although it will be tough and I don't like politics, I do enjoy his class. It's not for the LAZY.
Basically, don't ever expect this "professor" to ever help you with anything. Ever. Doesn't ever respond to messages for the online class, syllabus and everything else makes very little sense, no clear instruction, and a very tough grader at that.
Long Lectures, assigned readings that are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to understand if you've yet to take an Economics class, Group projects, and lengthy tests. Not to mention, he is a tough grader. He needs to take a step back and break the class down into a more understandable, student-friendly course. DO NOT TAKE if you need an A unless you put in work.
Dr. Schinke was a great teacher. I came into the class with no interest in the subject, but left inspired. He is a tough grader, and omg, the reading is insane, but he is passionate about the subject. A suggestion that may come in handy: come in with opinions. Read the news and come into class with something to say.
This class was a little difficult because the syllabus often did not match what was tested. For example, he would assign one chapter of reading but test one that was not assigned. The syllabus also was unclear as it contained many grammatical errors and did not lay out his expectations. When you write papers, be sure to take a liberal stance.
I knew the course was going to be difficult, but not this difficult. The syllabus was not clear at all and did not even match the readings. He would only posts tests and quizzes, nothing else. Some quizzes were not even posted on time. There was no discussion board or any class lessons, just the syllabus that was not even helpful in the first place
I took this class online in the shortened spring session. Teacher involvement was nil. This class was on autopilot. I got back 2 word critiques for entire essays. Very one sided class. It should be renamed democratic socialism 1. Easiest way to get an A: write essays the way you think the teacher wants them written. The further left the better.
So personally this was the worst class I have taken. The whole concept of reading and understanding the material on your own was taken to an entirely new level. Not much help whatsoever. I received a D in the class and I am an A-/B average student. Would not recommend this professor.
He didn't teach us anything! The book was the only thing he tested on. lectures were worthless.
This is one of the best professors at RCC, where he also teaches honor classes. He had being in charge of the model united nations program, the difference is that he teaches what really goes on in the world as oppose to theory. This professor will prepare you to be a leader.
If you are ready to just regurgitate what Prof. Ward says, this is the class for you. If not, then you might want to find another professor. I asked what I needed to do to get an A. His response? "I don't want you to use anything you've learned in other classes or in your life or church or anything, just what's in the lectures and book." Sucks.
DON'T take him. Unless you have an undeniable, absolute, sincere, PASSION for politics; and even then.... Just don't.
This class is a complex one. However, Dr. Schinke is very professional and help us with extra-credit assignments. There is going to be a couple of students that are the nerd about Political Science, but it's normal. I'm average learner, so I have struggled at the beginning, but Dr. Schinke cares if you care the class.
I have never had a professor that cares more about reading the damn books. Want to hear him clearly? Sit up front because his voice is so low. READ OR YOU WILL NOT PASS.

So he gave us a lot of handouts. In my opinion they didn't have much to do with his class or tests. He was really rude and I felt like I was in high school. He is too old and needs to retire. He did show us some interesting clips and videos and he does know his stuff ,but he is too stale and up-tight. Not fun and it could have been a great class!

Don't waste your money continue and look for another teacher. He doesn't teach you teach yourself so much reading and notes that will not prepare you for your test, if youre risk taker go ahead but id suggest to take every test including the final written not multiple choice you will fail
Here's what you do: 1. Close this tab. 2. Go back on Webadvisor. 3. Remove Shinke's class from your shopping cart. 4. Register for another course and don't look back. His POL-2 course lacks organization, consists of useless lectures, & is more subjective than objective. Take it at Norco instead. Coming from someone accepted to UCLA & Berkeley.
Materials are from 1990s, Dr. Schinke doesn't lecture: breaks you into groups and has you teach from supplemental materials he hands out. Expect to use the books very little, but receive 40-page+ packets frequently. He comes from the socialist perspective - plan to actively participate, or don't take the class. Very hard to pass.
Schinke was one of the toughest teachers Ive ever taken, and the intensity of his class is wild. One of the best classes Ive taken as far as leaving it with valuable life skills. He digs deep into the government and shows you its roots. - on the other hand, he is the TOUGHEST grader Ive ever had. No one in my class got an A. I got a B
The professor is so disorganized, and takes forever to grade. He really didn't teach anything, but rather rambled about the front page of the news, while splitting us up into groups and teaching yourself. TIP: in order to get a good grade in his class
Take the written exams! Don't waste your time with the multiple choice exams; everyone fails!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Talks very quietly and you have to sit in the first two rows to hear him properly. Gives a lot of reading but hardly mentions anything relating to it in class. Does a lot of group projects. Instructions are VERY vague. Hates when ppl use phones during video viewing (or whenever he's NOT teaching) Never returns completed work
Schinke is a decent professor. He's very knowledgeable, likable, and critical. The main issues of the class stem from his inability to speak louder than the lowest volume on your phone and his failure to hear anyone outside of the first row. The guy didn't follow the syllabus either, which forced us to cram a final 2 weeks earlier. GO TO NORCO
I took Dr. Schinke as my first class at Riverside City College. It was a good beginner's class to take because he is a very lax teacher. Many students don't like him because he is sorta quirky, but he isn't a bad professor. He just isn't a perfect professor. There are several books, be ready. If you are ready to engage and write you'll be fine!
He is not a good professor whatsoever! He does not teach at all and his tests do NOT match up with the material he assigns the class to read. He never follows the syllabus either. His syllabus is all messed up and sets everyone up for failure.
I'm sure that this professor means well, but I had to drop this class after reading the syllabus. I had no idea how to get to the assignment to get done and the whole syllabus is confusing. If you don't want to struggle and access your work easily, don't go to this person!
Do not take this professor. As of the last week of the semester, he graded a total of 2 papers. He does not give office hours, seldom answers emails, and leaves the class to figure everything out for themselves in the discussion section online. Dr. Schinke is by far the most hands off professor I've ever taken. Would not recommend this professor.
This was probably one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. This class was basically unbearable. I legit had no idea what was happening in the class because he talked really soft. he decided to do seating charts! The class had to do their own work and figure out what was happening basically. So many people dropped out towards the end.
SO MANY assignments with no clear directions. I learned nothing about the structure of our government. Instead, he made us read from two books that were very anti-American. I was so sick of reading how bad he must think about the U.S.. Expects specific responses on written tests but there's no rubric or directions of what he grades on.
Dr. Schinke teaches the class as if it were Harvard business school. There is a lot to read and his tests are extremely difficult, but ends up adding points to them after. You will definitely learn many valuable things in this class and as long as you participate and do the HW you will get an A regardless of doing bad on tests. PARTICIPATE.

Please do not take his class. The material he teaches is great but his tests are VERY difficult. He has 5 quizzes of 50 questions, 1 final, 3 papers and 5 small group discussions where we present to the whole class. For this class you must read A WHOLE BUNCH in order to receive a passing grade. You also can not hear him half the time!!
By far the worst instructor I have ever taken. I took his honors class and let me tell you, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He does not even give clear instructions of assignments, he alludes to what he wants from you. His personality in general is just weird. No one in the class gets him, no one likes him he knows it so he responds to us in a retaliative way.
TERRIBLE professor!! Syllabus super vague on assignments/instructions, in class talks about every country besides the U.S. (typically Europe), but when test comes its material we shouldve learned but didnt get from him or his 2 assigned books that are pro socialism. Slow grader, wont respond to emails, dont take even if its the last open class!!
His lectures are extremely dry, however his curriculum was personally interesting. There was group work every week of class, heavy amount of reading, and a lot of in class activities that you have to be there for in order to pass.
Tips to prepare you for this class: Sit up front because his voice is low. Do the 2 papers (don't slack!). Read. Do extra credit! I failed all my exams with D's but got A's on my two papers not a hard grader on papers. Finished with a B in class. It might be discouraging to get exams back but keep trying. He always adds extra points to them.
I am surprised at the review about Dr. Schinke. After reading the comments, I believe I am obligated to response with my experience and what it has taught me. Many reviewers took basic pol classes, and feel overwhelm . I am assuming that they have ambition to go to UC after RCC. Dr. Schinke class will prepared you to go beyond RCC.
