awesome writing class , even thought i personally don't like him much as a person, i will be fair and say that his class is great and helpfull not just in writing , but in life.
If you come to College to learn, and want to develop a sense of accomplishment in life other that be a lazy student,this is is great professor for that.
Eventhought he's a nice guy, I did not lerand anithing from him, to tell you the true I did not understand him.
Prof. Dittmar is amazing! Anyone who thinks he is a bad teacher expects college to be an easy ride. Never have I met a more inspirational prof. His work is disceted into small easy assignments. One of the few teachesrs left that REALLY care about students leaving his class with something more the just a grade but a new take on life all together.
Great teacher! Prof. Dittmar not only focus on a curriculum set by MDC, but he also try to focus on life and stregths that you have. His assignments are very easy, you just have read the stories and answer the questions...piece of cake!
I won't lie begining of semester thought he was super funny. Towards the middle i hated him because i felt he picked on me. But, he really wants the entire class to interact and gives opinions. He was a GREAT professor. i recommend him!
Awsome professor. He actually wants you to love writing. all his work is meaningful and inspire you to become a better person. I hated writing before his class. now i hate it less. Just follow what he says and believe me you'll become a better writer and a better person at the end of the semester.
Excellent proffesor althought he is a little bit crazy. He helps a lot make sure you get in time and always try to participate in the burning period ask him about something related to the news he will like it. Do your job and you'll be fine he grades you for your improvement. You will work on teams so be nice with your classmates

Great teacher! all you have to do is your HW, be on time, be respectful, and IMPROVE! You will get your grade based on your improvement! There are a lots of HW though, make sure you do all of them, but overall enjoy and learn fro this class! TAKE HIM!

I would write an entire essay on the impact this professor can have in your life. You will not only come out of his class a better writer, but also a better you, with a brand new perspective of life. He does give quite a bit of work, but so worthwhile. This class has been so meaningful to me that words can not describe.
this man is a great professor & a great human being. he not only teaches you to improve your writing but also how to become a better person for the world ahead of us... i recommend him & if i had to take another english i would pick him without thinking it twice... He's simply GREAT!!!
Amazing teacher, changed my life! I used to be a lazy student who saw no point in learning from a broken education system. Most teachers nowadays dont care for the students, only for the money. But this teacher really wants to teach, and that he did, he helped me find that fire inside me that will eventually lead me to greatness. If you want to find your inner strengths, and feel lost in thia crazy world, this teacher will help you find your way!!

I you are taking ONLY this class you'll be ok. He gives you A LOT OF WORK to do! He does not follow a standard procedure and has his own books. Will send you a lot of emails, make sure you check it. If I would have known he was so hard, I would have only taken this class by it self. Sarcastic, talks a lot, and has a section called burning questions

he has some psychology teaching in the background i think, which he blends into his english classes which hence makes it extremely ineresting and creates a passion to study his subject. very good teacher. alot of work though.he cares about each one of us. very helpful. take him!
Professor Dittmar is a great teacher. Make sure you ask tons of questions, sit in the front of the class, and always say good morning. He is very nice but tends to give an essay every week. You will learn more than English in this class because he discusses numerous interesting topics. I highly recommend him.
assigns a lot of work. about 10 essays through the semester. but dont be afraid, he is a great teacher. his class is a lot of fun. very intersting subjects are discussed. take him definately.
I read all the great comments about him. I took his class && he assigned alot of work like literally almost every class we had a new assignment. If you don't have a job , then you can take him but if you do , it was hard to balance. I ended up with a C with all the work I missed
first of all, he is a great professor. The course is very interesting and helps you knowing yourself. You have to read the books and do the assignments. However, by midterm you are going to feel burnout due to a lot assignments. Only at the end, you will feel a sense of achievement.
This is a leadership class first and foremost. I was glad to see that there was so much psychology in his teaching but a bit disappointed at the amount of work he assigns. He is very inspiring and you will learn more about yourself than typical English sessions.
Amazing Teacher! His class really focuses more on self-reflection rather than literature. He uses the books and lectures to help you discover yourself as an individual. A lot of work but definitely worth it.
If you want to have a life, then do not take this class. He gives you a ton of homework, mostly, not related to english. I guess he wants to make a better person out of you. I just want to pass this class and get on with my career. His intentions are good, but no thanks.
I love him. He made me rethink everything and brought out an amazing amount of creative energy. Very passionate about being a leader of self and how to never stop asking questions. I was very sad the semester ended and wished there were more professors like him. Life changing really.
English class is for writing papers. he makes you watch all this videos. it feels like i'm in high school.
By far, best English class ever. If you want a professor that knows what he's talking about, teaches you about not only English but life as well, take this class! Yes he gives you work, but it's all worth it in the end. I was so sad to finish his class, I loved showing up every day because I was excited to learn something new.
I would not recommend taking this class if you actually want to learn about English. He makes you watch all these unnecessary videos and says a lot of random things that you must take notes on because everything has a "connection". It's really annoying. Gives loads of writing assignments & he's the only professor I know to give a final. Run away.
Don't take him. Gives a lot of work and is a really unfair grader. First essay gave EVERYONE in the class a D. Also makes you read and watch videos. He's a great person but he is just a really inconsiderate professor.
Wonderful teacher, considerate.. and teaches a lot about the essentials of life. A lot of discussion groups, paperwork but if you have fun within the class academically, time will pass you by!
He's a really good teacher, picky when it comes to grading but he's willing to help you if you need it, he will pass you if you do all the work.TAKE HIM!! he actually teaches you how to write
Get ready to write, I took the mini term and had to bring at least one 2-3 page essay every day to class. Since I had classes 3 days a week I did around 35 assignments total. Also he has a fascination with cats, nudist artists, and buildings, so yeah... keep away. He tries to be funny and appear smart to his students but in the end he's a jerk.
He's not a bad teacher but be prepared to write essays every week. You don't learn about English though more of the arts. I felt like a certified art critic when I finished the class no lie. So if you want a challenge go for it, if not look for someone easier.
Professor Dittmar is a great teacher! He cares about his students and helps them a lot. If you don't pass his class is because you dont pay attention and you're just lazy. It is a COLLEGE CLASS so be prepair to do a lot of work. I highly recommend this professor. If you wanna actually learn take him!
I regret taking him. I love English but he is in the WRONG department. He makes you watch videos and write a TON essays about art pieces. Plus he's a harsh grader. His instructions are not clear. He says "Write an essay about your feelings on this painting" and when you do he tries to tell you that your feelings are wrong. DON'T TAKE HIM!
He assigned essays that required you to analyze art work and photographs. He doesn't require to buy the book.
He's a very good professor, but expect to do a lot of essays and if you want to pass his class do all his assignments and turn them in on time.
I took him for ENC1102 and at first I thought this was going to be an easy class but as I got further in I realized this was not the case. He honestly is a great professor and does teach very well but don't expect it to be an easy A.
I took him for ENC1101. Expect to have lots of homework. He gives reading and essay assignments after every class. My writing did improve immensely from all the work i did but.
I took him for ENC 1101, he is a good teacher but I truly didn't learn much about English instead i learn about paintings. He's a harsh grader but it will push you to try to write better. And get ready to write, he gives an essay every week. Overall, he's okay but i wouldn't take his class again
Absolutely hated this class. Going into college from high school, I was excited and determined to pass before I ran into this professor. All he does is make you look at pictures and paintings and write "persuasive" essays based off of how you feel, but when you do, you're wrong and aren't logical. Don't choose this professor, please.
Toughest professor I've taken by far at Miami Dade College. However, you do learn if you pay attention and ask questions. It's really hard to get an A, but if you open your mind and view things in a different perspective his assignments/hw will begin to fall into place. He gives loads of work, but it's college, what do you expect?
He assign's an essay about different paintings or photographs each week. He grades essays based on what he ask's of you and tends to compare your previous essay to the other. If you improve then you get a better grade. No need to purchase the writers reference book, its Optionnal. Be ready to work in groups
Dittmar is actually a nice professor and e really cares but sometimes he goes in too deep. Be prepare to write an essay every week about painting and how they connect to previous work. He challenges you but then again i did sign up for an art class. I like him and I see he really cares but the essays kill it for me.
I took this professor right out of high school and he really helped me develop in writing and to see connections in literature, art, and culture. We looked at a lot of interesting eye opening topics. The only way to fail his class is if you don't show up and don't pay attention.
Professor Dittmar, was the best english teacher I ever had. He is great! We had an essay due each week about paintings, questions about videos and short stories, but all the work was very helpful when the exams come. You will have a midterm and a final, with no more than 15 questions each. His lectures were very interesting and gives helpful advice
Dittmar will take you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to the fullest. I personally enjoyed his assignments, they were very unique and I learned a lot from his style of teaching it made me a better student.
I absolutely hated his class. Every class was just too much. A lot of homework , videos to watch, worksheets to answer and essays to write. He should not be teaching ENG1101, His class was very difficult and he is very demanding. Besides the tons of homework, his exams were really tough.

Lots of essays about paintings and photograph, lots of assignments about short films. Hes a tough grader when it comes to essays, you either do it his way or youll most likely get a low grade. 2-3 exams throughout the whole semester. I will say he is funny though.
He's a really nice person and really wants you to pass, but he is a tough grader. 3 Exams, 1 essay per week, and assignments based on the stories that you had to read. The biggest problem is the essays. He wants the essay to be done a very specific way. I won't be taking him for ENC1101. I do not recommend unless you want a challenge.
He's very nice but he gives to much work and essays and he isn't specific about what he wants in his work. When he asks you to express your opinions on essays he tells you your wrong and doesn't tell you why. He gives a lot of assignments on art paintings and they are exhausting.
He's nice but his class and the way he teaches is VERY difficult. I turned in all my work to only not pass the class because they weren't what he wanted specifically.
This is more of a creative writing class than an English. He gives a lot of work on paintings and stories and expects your creativity to be sharp right off the bat. And he won't answer the same question twice and wants you to be ready with newer ones.
We haven't even used the writer's reference so its a safe bet you won't either. He is not the most patient professor if you don't catch up and his style is more philosophical instead of actual english. Expect to really use your imagination in that class or else you'll fail.
He is not clear about assignments. He is very tought to grade. He does not help nobody to improve. Many students dropped this class because they are not sure to pass. He does not provide any extra credit to get better. He never repeat or clarify if someone does not understand. His class makes boring only around photography.
this teacher is very sarcastic and rude his class is very boring and difficult and does not give you credit so do not take it unless you like the challenges
Is more of a creative writing/quasi-philosophy class than English class. Unless you are on the same page with him he gets annoyed very easily and refuses to answer questions once he's mad. Furthermore, although he challenges his students beliefs he refuses to have his beliefs challenged. We have 3 textbooks but only use 1, the 1 book he published.
sweet baby jesus don't get this teacher he's the WORST .... me coming form high school to college and having his class was a nightmare ... at first everything easy then stuff cranks up to level 10 after the second week . he wants you to write masterpieces on pictures ...

Be carefull about this professor his class is very hard and forget about the assigments and everything is about paintings and essay but the worst escenario is the test you'll have 3 test eventhough you study hard you'll have a little chance to pass

His class is very hard to pass also Warren Dittmar is the profesor that put a lot of homework his way to teach is very confusing try to avoid this professor because the worse part is the 3 quizes on class paper and pensil that's my recomendation.

Never clear about what he wants from assignments, doesn't grade them properly(he even gave me a D once without even reading through my assignment), Its almost as if he strives to give you the lowest possible grade he can give you. His exams are very hard to pass. He is very narcissistic and rude. Don't take him.

What matters most in this class is the professors opinion. Horrible literature references which you are required to remember and write about. You will have to write an essay about a bland pictuee. Overall you will fail this class.
Do not take this professor on any semester not clear on grading will give you an F even if you return the work, he will make you write an essay out of a bland picture no bueno.
He allows you to ask question every class. He does give a lot of work but Is not difficult. His content in class is very helpful and inspirational.

I dont think why there are students who gives him a bad rate. He is a very great professor and it makes you think on the lectures he provides for you to pass. Most people think that writing class is an easy class. I like his teaching. Critical thinking was one of the main things I learned from him that you can apply in your everyday life.
In this class youll have a small paper to complete in reference of the material given on a specific class, I found it very helpful to learn it so I wont have go for the struggle of getting the material in my head. He encourages students to get out of they comfort zone and give the information needed to pass the class and tools for your future.
His classes were awesome and full of inspirational lectures. If you want a good grade you have to be on time (he will nag a lot about it) and do a looot of essays, you'll have to read a lot of poetry too but they are worth it, you will find it enjoyable and also you will learn a lot.
He is an excellent professor and if you do what he tells youre gonna get an A and enjoy the class. If you dont like to come to class or work, dont take him, but hes such a good teacher and I really loved his class.
He is all about making connections with anything seen in class. If you like to listen and take notes; if you do the assignments you will succeed. He challenges his students. His class is not just about reading, but also seeing and listening . He wants students to go from a level of understanding to a higher one. Get ready for a journey!
Once I wrote an essay and he only graded my first paragraph. I worked extremely hard for him to fail me based off one paragraph with no feedback on how to improve. I was utterly gutted and disappointed. He NEVER put our grades on the blackboard portal and we never knew what our grade was for the whole semester.
He gave a lot of homework but in the end it helps you to understand the course material. He is a great teacher, artisitc, & helped us to express our creativity & think critically. I recently moved here from Tunisia, he is my first US college professor & it was great experience. If you follow his assignments & work hard you are gonna be successful.
So at first i was pretty iffy about this class but thats mainly because i dont like writing essays but eventually i started to really enjoy this class and would definitely recommend. Just go to class EVERYDAY , study and turn in all assignments and youll be fine!!

This professor makes you think and use your mind like you never have before, if you really pay attention to his class ... you can learn a lot! I highly recommend to take his class! He is very creative and mind opening like every other class you have to make sure you're there everyday and participate. You will learn a lot!
He is kind and is accessible outside of class. He gives a lot of work, but it helped me write better. if you cant do all the work, you can make it up If you keep him updated about what is going on. if you follow directions, and he sees creativity, effort, and participation, you will ace it. If you are lazy, you will hate this class. ENC01 is easy.
The content is interesting, @ 7 am he's great to have as a professor still. No multiple-choice questions, all are filled in with what you've learned. Uses TED a lot to segway into the lesson. Poetry & Art heavy with the analyzing process of literature.
This class was far too heavy for being ENC1101. The HW was not so hard as it was just too much content. It was all on TedTalks, poems, short stories, paintings, and other informational videos. The problem is that prof. would assign 5-7 of these weekly, each one taking 2-4 hours to complete. There are also 5-6 larger essays each on paintings/photos.
Not a bad guy by any means. Gives too much work, assignments take about 5-6 hours if done to his standards. Throws a fit when nobody speaks in class. Graded my essay by just the first paragraph and proceeded to say, work harder as if I hadnt taken three hours to type a full six page essay about how I feel about a painting of a little girl.
Students have to buy his personal book and do assignments on the book. Very strict on participation, gets mad when nobody responds in his class.
He's a skilled writer, but a terrible teacher. He doesn't know how to pass down his knowledge, so his lectures are mostly TED Talks and papers with other people explaining the concepts for him. If you don't like to write don't even bother signing up for this course. Also, don't expect to learn anything about grammar.
I appreciate the way he teaches (using analysis and critical thinking rather than reading powerpoints) but he sends 2-3 long assignments per day. All he does in class is complain about how we “don’t participate”. He doesn’t give clear instructions and gets mad if you tell him. At least he is thoughtful with late assignments.
The absolute worst teacher I've ever had. He gives you at least 3 assignments due the very next day and they're long. He doesn't teach anything, he just looks at pictures and talks about them. It was an extremely bad experience.
Prof. Dittmar is the best professor you will have in your life. All these comments are lazy people. This english class was so different and informative. Not like the classic boring ENC. This was just amazing, it changed me. Im so grateful I took it. You will not regret it! TAKE HIM!! You will learn so much not only about english, but about life.
. He has good intentions, but I feel as if he constantly patronized us. He wanted us to express our beliefs, but if they didn't align with his they were wrong. There was PLENTY of homework that often took a long time to do and the final/ midterm exam focused on knowing the material covered throughout the entire semester. We went over 50 pieces!!
He makes you turn your camera on when in an online class. Threatens your grades constantly if you do not do everything he says correctly. Lots of homework and random writing quizzes. Does not answer emails. Doesn't let you make things up if you miss a class.
He had us write essays on photos he took. -_-. Actually, most of our essays were photography evaluations. He did not encourage individuality and want essays written in a specific way. Don't do it to yourself, I promise there are better teachers.
Bro i honestly HATED this class. Doesn't grade on time. He criticizes your paper in front of the whole class um LOADSSS of work its ridiculous!. Disorganized i can name numerous amount of reasons on why you should not take this class. Do whatever but take this class i couldn't stand this man at all. He does not know how to be a professor.
If you have time to be doing 4-5 assignments a week take the class, is not that hard but lots of work and he talks about the same things in the lectures. The professor talks a lot and will demand participation from everyone. Class is easy to pass if you do all the work but if you have a busy life and more classes is not easy.
He's a chill professor don't get me wrong and he is willing to here what you'd need to say but the amount of work he gives is certainly unbelievable, I'd have to spend 3-4 hours a day on just his work its as if we don't have other things to do in our lives...

This professor is easily one of the worst if not the worst. This professor will have you crying on a friday night because of all the assignments slowly crawling till the due date, not to mention that the assignments are given 1 day prior to the due date. He gave 50 assignments during the semester(????), he had us write essays on paintings....
He is a great teacher . He cares about his students learning the material therefore is tough teacher. You won't get by this class if you're not present and willing to do the work. I learned so much in his class!!
He's too old for the job. He's technologically illiterate and is very set in his ways. He complains 10 times a class about people not having any questions or having their camera off. He makes you write essays on photos and then gives you a 60 when he doesn't like your opinion on the opinion paper. He also assigns way too much work and is rude.
Professor Dittmar assigns a heavy workload and expects originality, creativity, and deep thinking. His class isn't easy, but it's absolutely worth it. I took two courses with him, and both changed how I see writing and the world. You'll leave his class transformed. He's demanding, inspiring, and truly THE BEST PROFESSOR I've ever had.
