Good info, but he got off the subject all the time.

Excellent instructor. Loved the class.
Good man
A very nice guy. It would be nice if he didn't use so many slides though...........
Very easy class. He uses real world examples, even if they are all about his kid and get annoying after the fourth week. But he does a good job of explaining all the concepts. I actually learned something in that class...
He is so cute. He looks like a gummy bear.

EXCELLENT prof, great class. he really made the class interesting by using real life examples. one of the best psych profs i've had

I really liked the class, but it did start to drag on after awhile. Make sure to go to lecture because he gives out small pop quizzes.
An easy class especially if you go to the lectures, you don't even really have to read the book to understand what you need for the tests.
He is very clear, it is just a really boring subject. I don't like how he writes his tests, but he offers a lot of extra credit which is nice.
One of the best profs ever! If you're into psych, he's the best teacher! All the examples helped a ton!
Great prof - cute, funny, and interesting. Though the material can sometimes be boring, he makes the best of it. Nice guy.

I really enjoyed this professor. He is an excellent teacher and is very effective in his teaching methods. He is always willing to help and is very open. His classes are really enjoyable.

hes cool! but he cant help if the material is really boring!
Interesting lecture, learned a lot. Tests are very challenging but get a lot of help from extra credit. Also a very good curve in the class.

Very thorough w/ interesting lectures, tests are hard, lots of opportunities for extra credit, really nice
he managed to be 5 minutes late for almost ever class, then he had to set up his powerpoint, so that was an other 5 minutes, so class would start 10 mintes late. added up we missed like 4 days of class time. he looked like my ex-boyfriend so bonus there.
This class was boring but he's a good teacher. It's not his fault that the subject matter is borning...and not to mention that he's not bad to look at!! Tests are hard and there's no way to really study but get all the extra credit you can.
Very thorough but a little boring. Powerpoint shows are all the same so it's really boring to take notes. Tests of about medium difficulty, and good opportunities for extra credit.
He was really fun to listen to, especially his personal stories about his son. Very cute!
Oh I could sleep in this class. His voice is so soothing and Curtiss is soo warm...But I dare not nod off and miss the lecture. Good professor, very clear despite the buttloads of information to take in. Hard tests. Do your reading.
Really nice guy, material isn't too bad (a little dry at times), tests can be challenging (or very hard if you don't study).
He relies on Power Point too much. Kinda boring. Moderate difficulty.
Easy class, must do all of the extra credit because tests are tough, the tests are curved though, Must study for the tests and he's a good teacher, gives out random quizzes, so you must attend class from time to time. Good class overall.
his class was pretty easy, i never did extra credit and got an A
Not a very interesting prof at all. If you like taking notes for an hour, then take a class with him. Not a bad guy just doesn't spark an interest in class at all.
Very easy and very interesting. The birth video was not so cool. Get ready to listen to stories about his family, but they relate to the topic.
Very boring...watch out for the birt video if you have a really weak stomach. At least he's thorough, so that's a plus.
Everyone has told me how bad he is, but I really enjoy his teaching (for the times I got to lecture!) He does talk about his family a lot, but it really makes things clear...I remember all the stories about his son and how they related to the topic.
I did not read the book at all. Alot of the test questions I don't think were ever taught in class or in the book. Memorize the class notes and you'll get by. This was one of my lowest grades in psych, percetagewise, but I still had an A even before the curve at the end, which is gigantic!!
He's a very interesting teacher, I am able to stay awake in his class! Oh course, it doesn't hurt that he is great to look at:)
This class was interesting but like all psych classes they really expect you to memorize a lot of stuff! Warren himself is a nice guy! I wouldn't call him hot though. He was very helpful.
sweet
Decent guy. Very easy class, I never paid attention or studied and still got an easy A. Do the extra credit, its well worth it so you don't have to worry about tests at all. Don't bother buying the books, I never needed them for the class. Just know the Powerpoint slides for tests.
I loved his class so much. And who knew...a man could actually teach and childbirth and child rearing...I loved every minute of that class
the guy's voice is like nails on a chalboard for me. he talks sooo slow and goes over everyhting a bazillion times. I have a feeling its an easy class, though. avoid taking this class if you dont have to.
A class for el ed or ece majors, others may not be as interested. I think he is an effective and fair teacher. His tests were fairly difficult. Hard to sit through the entire lecture at times.
He straight up sexy. this guy is a good teacher.
Great class and great teacher! I enjoyed every minute of it. Tests were fairly difficult, but with the study guide, not too bad. I think many people would benefit from taking developmental psych.

Easy class...boring and learned more in my high school psych classes, but overall not bad. He likes to tell lots of stories about crap...so bring a book to read.
I loved this class. He makes it very enjoyable. His stories are great, and illustrate a point. Go to class and pay attention, do the readings, and you will do great.
The class is boring, really not worth going to, and the test cover soo much that they are insanly hard
Thought it was a very good class! Great teacher, easy to understand, shares good stories, teaches childbirth, i give credit to any man that can do that and not have a gross look on his face! If you read your book, go to class, and do your extra credit you'll do good!
Hard tests, better study. Going to class seems pointless, but it is worth it. If you don't go, make sure to get the notes off WebCT, you will need to know them. Do the extra credit research, it's easy and can boost your grade.
Dr. Phillips is a great professor for this class. Granted, the tests are pretty difficult, and there is a LOT of reading to do, but lecture is fun and helpful and worth going to. Do the extra credit research!
Your grade is as good as you make it. Get your Psych EC points done early to avoid the rush. And do all of them!! That's what saved my grade. I only bought the books for the rubric, but never used either one, so not nessecery. I went to a few of the lectures, and tried to guess when his quizzes were. Not too hard. good luck.
Tests are very difficult. He gives pop quizzes, which sucks hard. Grading scale is fixed with 90% as an A. He is, however, a very good lecturer and very clearly presents the material. Lectures are slow paced and his delivery is somewhat rythmic, so take the class early in the day. He keeps the lecture room dark too. Good class if you're motivated.
He's a funny professor, especially when it comes to telling stories about little kids. His tests will kick your ass if you don't study. And definately max out the research credits because I knew someone who went from a C to a B+ using that.
Good guy, very helpful if you need outside assisstance. Tests are very hard read all of the extra course packet and at least the bold words from the regualr book (and do the extra credit)
Class was a little difficult, because of the test. I agree make sure you read all the packets and you go to class. His lectures are helpfull and if you pay attention and read the book you should do alright.
Easy class... tests are a little difficult but as long as you study the study guides he gives out you'll be fine.. and make sure to do all the research extra credit, it really helps.
BORING!!! If you are not too found of children, don't take the class- you will probably go insane like I did...
Challenging and boring. The tests suck, but if you study for them you should be fine. It has a nice curve at the end!
Is good lecturer, but has poor reading selections.
This class is GREAT! Seats in Curtiss Auditorium fill up fast! Sure, he talked A LOT about his kid, but given that its a developmental psych course, the stories were HIGHLY relevant most of the time.
He pretty much covered the material needed but sometimes class got a little long and boring but overall I found the class effective
I found his class interesting and liked the stories. Learned lots that can all be used in life. Make sure to do the extra credit it will really help your grade.
The class itself was interesting and he taught it well, but when it came to tests a lot of the stuff was not ever covered. If you want an A on the test or in the course you really have to study that book. The Research Extra Credit helped a ton!! He also has pop-quizzes so you kind of have to go to class.
He was nice and had neat stories, but you really have to study the book to do well. There is a LOT of stuff on the tests not covered in class. Also, do the readings, they are hard to understand sometimes, but they show up on the tests. If you do all the extra credit though, an A shouldn't be that hard.
Wonderful teacher with tons of anecdotes. Had a great time, just make sure to go to class.
He's a good teacher and loves being there. Sometimes boring, but has good stories! I would recommend going to class. Some of the stuff on the test comes from lecture and isn't covered in the book. Read the book too!! Do the study guides, a lot of the questions are on the test!
Ok teacher. Class is entertaining and fun. You need to go to class and study the book to do well on exams. With the extra credit provided an A isn't too hard.
Do the extra credit and it is easy to get an A. Most important thing to do is to read the book for vocabulary and learn the vocabulary and the theorists' names. DO THE STUDY GUIDES for the tests...only thing I didnt like is that he had pop quizzes but they weren't hard as long as you were caught up on the reading.
Warren is a really nice guy, and though his lectures are nothing to write home about, they don't fall prey to many of the typical complaints. He's not boring, overly opinionated, doesn't get on the soapbox often.
I really liked Warren Phillips teaching style. He was always really interesting and told the cutest stories about his kids. Its important you go to class since you never know when there will be a quiz. Also, I would highly recommend buying the study guide book, it makes the test a lot easier when you have that to fill out.
I feel like the most obvious person here: There is a website on the back of the book where at least 10 questions per test come from. He takes them word for word of the tutorial quizzes on that website.
He is one of my favorite professors! His lectures were never boring, and he can relate what he's talking about to his life and his kids, which helps me learn. It's really easy to get an A, especially if you do the extra credit. I would definately recommend him to anyone taking a psych class!
Phillips was very down to earth and his lectures were fun and relaxed. He certainly enjoys what he does and incorporates a lot of real life stories which makes the material easier to relate to. A lot of test material is pulled from the book. I would love to have Phillips again as a teacher!
great guy! loves what he teaches and tells tons of real life stories that are really easy to relate to and brings concepts to life. follow along in your book. pop quizzes so go to class. pretty interesting class over all!
I think the lectures are boring and that they way he words his test and quiz questions are so off the wall and hard to understand.
his lectures are extremely boring. Do all the research extra credit studies, helps raise your grade by 2/3 at the end. Last test is the easiest. Notes are online, read the book over sections in the lecture. Try to hang in there, I had a C leading into the final and got an A! Good luck!
Hated lecture, it was boring. All you really need to do is read the book and the tests are really easy. He gives random quizzes in class so you have to go. The research points are really easy to get!!
Well-spoken professor with high level of knowledge regarding psychology
A great teacher and lecturer! He knows many students take this to fill gen. eds. (like me): notes are lectured clearly and slowly. Sometimes it's frustrating when people ask moronic questions, but he'll patiently answer people and doesn't patronize anyone. Uses real-live stories, is funny, and knows his stuff. Always enjoyed class. Book needed
Great lecturer, I always enjoyed listening to his lectures. He has a lot of stories which help make the lectures more engaging. The class is a bit tough when it comes to exams, but if you read the book and study you'll be solid. Warren knows his stuff and is always willing to answer questions.
He is great at explaining things and making them interesting. The class is curves as well as offers lots of extra credit. No attendance but he lectures are entertaining and engaging. One of my favorite professors.
He is an amazing guy and loves psychology, yes he talks a bit too much about his song who is now in Highschool and he seems a little odd but he really cares if you do good. Read the book, take your time on the tests and make sure you study from both the powerpoints and book.
Really good lecturer and professor! Class was interesting, he's good at explaining concepts and he keeps it interesting with stories! Loved the class!
He is a fantastic teacher and he tells you everything you need to know & do to pass the class. Tests are MURDEROUS if you don't study vocab. & all the major theories he gives. Do not make that mistake. Overall, really good teacher considering Developmental psych is my least favorite psych class. Also, he's pretty cute ;)
Wasn't a bad class the only reason I didn't attend was cause it was at 8 am. If you read the book you will be fine on the tests.
Prof. Phillips is a great teacher, makes the class really interesting. His class is SUPER easy as well. I skipped class all the time, did okay on the tests, but with the copious extra credit he allows, still got an A- in the class.
Warning - you WILL need the book. He doesn't discuss the content but it is 40% of the test. Otherwise, his lectures are crystal clear and you barely have questions about what he said. Very friendly and loves his subject!
Best professor I have had! He really enjoys teaching and is passionate about the topic. Make sure to read the book, a lot of the material is on the exams.
Dr. Phillips is awesome! I loved going to his classes, because he just makes it so interesting. He's very passionate about psychology and it really helps to see that in a professor. His tests are kind of difficult, requires reading the book to do well! He offers a lot of extra credit though so it's not too difficult to make up points. LOVED HIM!
He's awesome and does a great job giving easy to relate to examples. Exams are often harder than they may seem like they may be.
Prof. Phillips is a great professor and obviously passionate about the subject. He uses a lot of great examples in his lectures and makes the class interesting. If you read the lecture notes and study the vocab terms in the book, you'll do fine.
Fantastic teacher! Really cares about his students and offers lots of extra credit points. Lectures are interesting too.
Phillips' lectures were so interesting! He pauses often to interact with the students and answer questions. His passion and care really shows through in the way he teaches. I truly respect him and his class is full of life lessons.
This professor is very good and keeps things interesting. However, to be honest, I only attended 3 lectures all semester and got an A. He posts all the lectures online so if you look at those by yourself (what I did) you really don't need to go to class BUT he is a good professor so you should! EASY A and interesting so take his class!
He is very nice, very willing to answer questions, and overall a great professor. He posts all of his lectures online so you don't have to go to class, but I recommend going because he is extremely nice and easy to talk to. No complaints and I highly recommend this class for an easy A
Dr Phillips has fairly interesting lectures. He's an extremely nice, helpful, and understanding professor. Extra credit offered. The homework assignments, in my opinion, are ridiculous. But at the very least you do need the code in order to complete online hmwk assignments. Night exams kinda suck, but they're good about working w/ your schedule.
Class was very easy. It consisted of 3, 70-point non-cumulative multiple choice exams, online homework assignments, and required research participation credits. Ample extra credit was offered. If you're looking for an easy A, this is your class.
He's a great instructor! Incredibly helpful and enthusiastic about the subject. You can clearly tell he loves his job. The mandatory readings are a pain, but honestly, if you keep up with them, you are going to destroy the exams. Lectures aren't mandatory, but I recommend going. Love the class!
Dr. Phillips is hands down a great guy! Since his voice tends to be monotone and soothing, I do have the urge to fall asleep in lecture to be honest. However, he tends to keep his lectures interesting by telling a lot of stories and explaining concepts well. In order to do decent on exams, reading the textbook is a MUST. You actually have to try.
This class is simple, just go to class or read the book on your own. Most of what he says in lectures is what is on the test. There are online simulations-LearnSmarts-that help you A LOT and they are homework. They drill the vocabconcepts and it really helped me get a good grade in the class. I put in minimal effort and passed easily. Pretty good
Fairly interesting class but there is a lot of material. Expect to spend time memorizing what happens during specific ages of development. Easy extra credit that can bump your grade up a lot. Dr. Phillips is very helpful and willing to answer any questions. Exams are average: not too hard, but not super easy either.
I went to class maybe 10 times the whole semester. No final exam, just 3 unit exams. There are multiple online assignments due each night of the corresponding exam. Very easy, but time consuming assignments. Required to do 10 research credits, allowed another 10 as EC that will raise your grade ALOT. I got a B, C, and D on exams & an A in the class
Chapter assignments due before every exam. Very time consuming to finish. Only 3 unit exams, final exam is not cumulative. I went to class maybe 10 times and got a B+ in the class with all C's on my exams. Pretty easy.
Warren was a friendly professor, he covered the material in depth. Sometimes he spent so much time on a chapter though that we didn't get to the other chapters but were still tested on them. Sometimes that made it difficult to study. Learnsmartsresearch studies were the homework, and he offered a lot of extra credit for extra research studies.
Super nice guy! If you go to the class and pay attention in lecture, you'll be just fine.
A really nice and soft-spoken guy. The homework is extremely easy but extremely time consuming. It is through an online program that does not let you pass until you have mastered the material but it never deducts points. It's an overall super cool class but dear goodness, THE TESTS ARE HARD! 70 questions of pure memorization!
Great professor! Dr. Phillips made the class very fun and his lectures were always interactive. He does post the lectures and PowerPoints on Blackboard, but you get a lot more out of being in class. Make sure you read the book because there's a lot of material from there on the tests. Time consuming work, but very easy! Would take this class again
Class if you need an easy A. Attendance is not mandatory, and you can get by with reading the textbook a couple of days before the test. A lot of extra credit is given through studys, and everything is extremely laid back. Barely worried about this class during the semester.
No need to go to lecture much. Get the "research credits" out of the way. They are easy, you just have to show up to them. Can get SERIOUS EC from this! HW is really, really easy. Do the HW, research credits, all EC (all SUPER easy), and can basically flunk the exams and ace the class. Take this for an easy A.
Speaks very clearly and is easy to understand and learn from. Best teacher I've had here so far.
I finally gave up on going to class & started watching the lectures online because he moves so slowly through the material you'll be lulled to sleep. If you're new and not the quickest learner it'll be perfect for you, but otherwise it'll be how much are you willing to sit through to get an A. Lots of LearnSmart homework, & research participation.
Interesting class
Easily my favorite class of the semester and it has everything to do with Dr. Phillips. He really cares about the material and its super obvious that he loves to teach it. The class is easy and fun even if you aren't interested in Psychology. He's one of the professors I know I will miss after the semester ends
-Long homework assignments, one a week -Outside SONA research credits mandatory, extra credit if you do extra This class was interesting. He is a good teacher who really knows what he is talking about. He likes to involve the class in lectures. Not a terrible class at all. Attendance is helpful, he has a little info that arent in the books.
Overall, I really enjoyed this class. It is obvious that professor Warren really cares about what he is teaching. The exams are not that difficult, and there is a lot of extra credit given. This has been my favorite class this semester. This class is required for all education majors, however, if you love Psychology, I would recommend this course!
Best lecturer ever, I love your teaching style, very detailed and well-organized XD
Dr. Phillips is a great professor. He has clear lectures and is easy to understand. If you like psychology this is an interesting class to take and an easy A. If you do the extra credit, you are guaranteed an A essentially. He posts the slides online with himself speaking over it so you get the full lecture aspect if you're sick. Easy assignments
Class was easy. Only went to the first lecture, and did the homework. Got an A in the class. Easiest class ever.
I thought he was a pretty good professor, my only problem was how soft he spoke and almost made me fall asleep each time I went to lecture, the class itself isn't hard at all.
I'm a psych major so I really enjoyed this class. But Phillips is a really good professor. His class is easy as long as you do the readings and the homework -- he gives you till the end of the semester to get all of the homework assignments done. Easy A
Dr. Phillips is a great lecturer, just a little boring at times. He explains everything well in class if you can stay awake. The readings and homework are long, and at times seem unimportant, but make sure you know the material covered. Definitely TAKE THE TIME TO DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It will save you. The tests are hard - especially the final.
I went to one lecture. He told the class that all his lectures are recorded online and attendance is not needed. Everything you could possibly need is online. You physically cannot get anything other than 100 percent on your homework. Everything is due at the end of the semester RECOMMENDED due dates are provided
Just do the extra credit, and take the practice exams
He really knows and is passionate about the topics that he is teaching and if you take the time to study you will do fine. The research credits are easy to attain and aside from that you only have a few online assignments to prepare you for the exams. Excellent teacher
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH YOU DON'T WANT TO BUT IT MADE MY B AN A. I never attended the lectures, but I put a lot of effort into the (online) homework. Didn't use the textbook until the week before the final and it definitely came in handy - I wish I would have used it all semester.
Phillips is clearly knowledgeable in the course material and his lectures are really interesting. Extra credit is a must in this class, assignments are really easy. I never used the physical copy of the textbook, but the online code is necessary. All lectures are online too so it's nice if you miss class
I loved Dr. Phillips. His lectures made waking up for my 8 AM class so easy. However if you don't want to go the recorded lectures are online. If you pay attention and read the book/do the assignments before the exam you'll do fine
If you ever have to take a Psychology class I would really recommend Warren. His class was very easy but I also learned a lot from it. All of his lectures are online and you do have to study for his tests but they're fairly easy. Be sure to do the extra credit, I ended up with an A in his class thanks to the EC.
Lectures are a waste of time, the sooner you realize that, the better. The test questions are all from the book (which I would highly recommend you read). On the exams I got an A-, B, and B- and ended up only missing a couple of points in the class thanks to the extra credit. Do all 20 credits research credits, it relives so much stress.
Did not attend lecture, simply looked at study guides before exams and did well. No homework, just research credit that allows for lots of extra credit. Easy class.
In my opinion, this professor does not cover a lot of the material that he will put on the test. He does not give you a good idea of what will be on the tests (textbook/lecture wise). He drags on about certain topics that are rarely emphasized on the exams, so much so that he skips a lot of important material. The study guides are semi-useful.
I took this class online and it was one of the easiest classes that I have taken. You are graded based on homework for each chapter (completion grade), 6 discussion posts (completion grade), 6 exams (which are taken at home), and research credit. You can receive extra credit by doing more than the required amount of research credit.
I loved having Dr. Phillips! Lectures were great and the people that didn't do well on the tests obviously didn't study that hard because he pulls his test questions directly from the practice exams he posts. Do the extra credit, fill out the study guides, and this class will be easy! I only needed a 40% on the final to get an A because of the EC!
Phillips is a great lecturer and is passionate about his area. You don't really need to go to his lectures since they are all on his blackboard but it helps to go. His tests are kind of hard since they are so broad and the study guide isn't much help, I always got around 42-46/70 on all three exams but I still ended with a decent grade.
I wish his lectures weren't at 8 am and that his voice wasn't so monotone. I went to the first 2 weeks of class only to fall asleep in each one and to look around and see that many other students had also fallen asleep. You need the access code because there is weekly online homework and it is super benefical to read the chapters before the exams.
He has a very soothing voice for a morning class and can easily get distracted but he's EXCELLENT to work with. Fixed my wrongly graded homework 3 times. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Easy to do homework during class
So there is a VERY LARGE amount of extra credit that you can do, and if you do all of it, you just need to maintain a D average on the exams and finish all of your homework to get an A. Lectures are boring and he gives you no kind of study guide or list of concepts for exams.
Phillips is a great professor and he really knows what he's talking about. He cares about his students and is almost always available to email or meet with. You have to do research studies and there's a homework assignment once a week, but all deadlines are pretty loose. Read the book and pay attention in lecture or tests will be difficult.
Fine lecturer, not boring, even for 8am. Answers any questions without being condescending. All material is posted online, so class isn't mandatory. I would suggest reading the textbook, but not taking notes on it. The textbook is required to do homework worth 1/3 of the points of your grade. Psychology trials required & offered for extra credit.
If you do homework (super easy), complete all extra credit, and maintain a D average on exams, you will do great.
Good professor but reads from slides so it's quite hard to dedicate your attention to especially since it's a 9 am. Tests are very easy if you read the textbook, homework is textbook based questions that reappear on the tests--offers ALOT of extra credit, attendance is graded to 25 points so you don't always have to show up to pass.
I had developmental psychology with Warren. I can definitely say that this class was tough and required a lot of work, but you learn a lot. Warren is a great professor who you can tell genuinely cares about his students and even more about teaching psychology. If you study from the slideshows and do the reading, you should be fine. Warren is great!
He made his lectures really interesting. He uses tophat to ask questions, but he doesn't use it for every single class so whether or not your attendance is recorded just depends. The homework was pretty easy, but you do have to do a fair amount of reading.
Amazing professor, easily my favorite of my first semester! Very respectful of students and happy to answer questions. Explains things very clearly during lecture with real-life examples. Only three exams that werent incredibly difficult, although you will want to study the reading material from homework assignments as well as lecture notes.
This class is pretty easy. Just do the homework assignments and study guide and you will be fine on tests. Phillips is a nice guy with easy to follow lectures, but you don't necessarily need to actually go to class and you will be fine.
Warren made developmental psych easy and entertaining to learn. Attending lecture is not mandatory, but you gain extra insight as well as real life examples of a topic if you attend. There is extra credit as well as online homework using an online textbook that helps you study! HW is worth the time. Would 10/10 take this course again.
Tech didnt work one day, he totally nailed the lecture without it! He knows his stuff.
Easy way to succeed in this class if you put in the effort, of you get 30/70 on all 3 exams youll still pass the class if you do all the extra credit from sona. Lectures are worth your time and interesting, however theyre all on canvas, the homework is done through project connect (the textbook) so make sure you buy it!
Great Professor and is very clear on material. I suggest this class for everyone. Fun class!
He's a really nice guy with great life examples, and the lectures are pretty interesting. They're not as organized as I like, and the book readings are so long and I sometimes don't even know what the most important material is, but the homework is pretty much just do it and you'll get a good grade on it.
Class is pretty an easy A if you do the extra credit and at least pass the three exams. If you do all the extra credit and the homework (which is graded as a completion grade), then you'll easily pass this class. Lectures are pretty interesting but is not required to attend.
Professor Phillips is at MOST an average teacher and person. I don't recommend taking this class with him. If you sign up for this class you will regret it the whole semester and the rest of you're life.
Professor Phillips is a really great professor and he really knows what he's talking about! The classes aren't mandatory and he puts all the lectures on canvas, but the classes are really helpful to get extra information and explanations as the slides can be a little vague. Its not hard to pass this class if you do all the homework and pass exams.
He is a good guy and explains material very well. The readings are long and slides are vague so sometimes it is hard to find what you need to know for the exam, but it was a good class and he is a good professor. SONA extra credit is also super nice. Easy to pass if you do the homework and the extra credit
Lectures can be kind of boring, but Phillips clearly knows his stuff. Sometimes the information presented in class doesn't match what the book says which makes studying for tests harder. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. The extra credit moved my grade up over 10% at the end of the year and made the last exam much less stressful.
Really great teacher, knows his stuff, does his best to make lectures interesting, answers any question you have. Definitely one of the better professors Ive had here.
He's a genuinely good guy with the intention of having you understand the material. The online textbook and the associated homework helps A LOT for studying for tests, so take notes when taking the homework quizzes. He's really passionate about the material and gives meaningful lectures.
There was a lot of content to work with. There were lectures and required textbook homework but I only focused on the book and I did okay. Tests were long and pretty difficult and make you think. Make sure to take notes and actually read the chapters because it will help you in long run! Professor always available for help!
Super nice, makes the topics interesting. As long as you do the reading and show up to lectures you should be able to get an A.
This class is INSANE in the amount of reading material you have to do. You have quizzes over the each chapter that are over 100 questions.. but you do get 100% for completing it even if you do bad so thats nice. Still annoying though. Exams every two weeks, theyre proctored. That sucks. This class is just so hard for no reason.
Class isn't too bad, Homework is 100 questions that take a long time to complete. But the homework does help prepare you for the exam. Could definitely have shorter tests and homework assignments and still be beneficial.
Yes, I have a C, but that's simply because I'm not smart. However, this teacher is great! The online lectures were a lifesaver in terms of learning how much material is in this class.
Made an effort to get to know his students and challenge their ideas and understanding during office hours. Class is VERY tough, lots of reading and requires discipline. The exams themselves are alright, but if you don't put in the work and time, you won't do well.
This class was really difficult for me because I would read the material, I would do all of the homework, and I would watch the lectures as well, but I could never get a good score on the tests. I tried studying as much as I could, but it became really difficult and extremely stressful for me, especially in the last weeks of the semester.
This class is super easy. Phillips does a great job of explaining everything, but in all honesty, with tests being online you don't need a whole lot of effort for this class. The tests are on the same textbook site as the homework, so you can definitely just not go to class and read the chapters at home. Homework can be a little long, but not hard.
I had the class online so I don't know how the actual teacher was. Lots of the test questions are from the book, but you have no idea what the questions will be so it's pointless to read the book. You have to buy the book because there is homework in it. There is easy extra credit available that raised my grade from an A- to an A.
Very helpful and gives out extra credit
Stopped attending lecture after second week because test questions are only drawn from the textbook. In my opinion, his lectures do not add anything meaningful and as this was my first psych class I am very disappointed. The test questions can be tricky but as long as you read the textbook you'll be fine. I would take online if you could.
Prof Phillips' lectures aren't mandatory (you can pass without going), but they were usually pretty interesting and I liked going to them. 6 modules (2-4 homeworks and 1 exam each, both online) with the opportunity for extra credit. It's definitely possible to get an A with a little bit of effort. Overall great professor and interesting class.
Tons of reading that you must do if you want to do well on the tests. Giant lecture hall, hard to stay awake. He just talks the entire time.
Warren is probably one of my best professors since being at Iowa State. I took psych230 online; it was the easiest psych class I've ever taken. I don't like psych, so his layout and class are very convenient. He was super nice and understanding when I had issues taking an exam, and with a quick email, he showed his understanding of my situation.
The homework questions are connected to a free online textbook. It is graded on completion. The exams are online and due the same Friday as the homework. It uses the honor system and you have 24 hours to start after it opens, and 1 hour to complete after your start. SONA tests are required as well.
He is very knowledgeable about what he is talking about and applies case studies as well. Adds a few jokes in there as well. It's definitely a very interesting class and important if you want to work with kids in the future.
Warren responded to emails well and showed he cared for his students. He assigns smartbooks for homework, and his tests are also online. He understood when my first exam wasn't working and gave me an extension. There are research credits required, and only half can be earned online. Overall, he was a great professor and kept it interesting.
A very knowledgeable and respectful kind of guy. Was very understanding if things came up. Every piece of work was done online and is very manageable, it just takes a decent bit of time to do. Tests were also online. As long as you take notes, life will be just fine in this course
I loved this class. It was very interesting, and he always made the lectures fun! The homework took a little bit of time, but they were easy and helpful to review for the tests!
So much McGraw Hill Smart Book homework but it is kind of helpful. There are lecture quizzes and he gives out the password for them in class but they're only usually worth 2 points. Lectures are recorded and posted on canvas, but you can't get the lecture quiz password from the recorded lectures.
Warren is a funny, caring professor. All of the 6 exams are online (not in class), and are very easy. There are 10 research credits, but also plenty of extra credit. There's a lot of homework, but they are not hard (McGraw Hill). If you pay attention in class (and complete the lecture quizzes that you get the passwords to in class), you'll be good!
His lectures can get boring because he will go on long tangents about certain topics. The homework assignments are long and require lots of reading but aren't necessarily hard. He's a genuine guy and likes to get participation from the class
Professor Phillips keeps the class engaging despite the dry textbook content. The homework is extensive but manageable. Attendance is mandatory, but the recorded lectures are helpful. I found Unstuckstudy great for exam prep alongside the class materials.
Warren is a nice professor who is definitely passionate about psychology. His class is always a lecture and they tend to be a little bit dry as he reads off the slides posted on canvas. Be aware that attendance isn't mandatory but there is lecture quizzes frequently. He is willing to answer questions and communicate!
Nice professor and taught material well! I enjoyed attending his lectures and he often made them interesting. Lecture quizzes if you attend and lecture slides are posted on canvas! No complaints here.
The only thing that I can complain about with this professor is that you can only talk to him before or after class and I had issues with the admin email provided but once I explained this to him he was amazing and accommodated me immediately. The lectures are fun and engaging while also elaborating on what the textbook says.
dr. phillips is a great professor! he is very passionate about the material. the only complaint i have for the class is that the tests and homework are completely run through mcgraw hill, making going to lecture almost useless. for example, one of the final class periods was spent discussing child abuse and nothing about that topic was on the exam!
The amount of work I had to do was stupid. At least 1 homework assignment a week as well as discussion posts, exams, and required research. This class requiring at minimum 5 hours of participation in research studies when I'm not going into a research field is just stupid. 0/10 don't do this to yourself if its not required for your major.
I wish Mr. Phillips would upload powerpoints instead of 50 minute video lectures. That's about all I have to say about him. This course is very easy, but it's a lot of work. Long discussion posts, 6 exams, and 80 concept homeworks (multiple questions per concept). If you have a lot of credits like me, wouldn't recommend Psych 2300.
Professor Warren is an amazing professor! We used McGraw Hill, and the homework did take a while, but he is really nice and fun. The discussion posts can be a lot, but there is extra credit opportunities with Sona credits. If you put in the work and effort, you will get an A or B. I highly recommend a class with him!
The class itself is terrible. I had more homework than in any of my other classes. Each assignment takes over 2 hours to complete, it's ridiculous. The discussion posts also take a long time to complete, having to write over 500 words with multiple sources, but they are only worth 10 points. I also tried to email him once and never got an answer.
