I would change my major if I knew he would teach all the classes I would need! Good teacher, interesting, never bored; you can't go wrong signing up for his class.
He explains the material very well. Best economics teacher I have had.
Way too much information on each test! Only a couple tests make up the grade... Oh, and I had a paper but he never handed it back or gave us the grades. I had a strong A before the paper and got a B in the class... must be hard core on the papers...
Very good teacher. Gave all information on the board. Very helpful at answering peoples questions. Gave good examples. Keep this teacher. Looks like Chris Farley in a way. Always hoped he would come into class one day and be our motivational speaker
Learned more in 1 week of his Micro class than I did all semester in Macro. Tests were a little difficult, but he explains everything very thorougly. Definitely looks like Chris Farley and likes to wear button-up shirts...
Warren is a ****. He makes the class easy to understand and there is not alot of work.
VERY BORING
Very clear, goes through everything thoroughly, gets a little boring, but definitely best teacher I have ever had.
Very good teacher. He did a really great job making a difficult subject understandable. There isn't a lot of work and if you show up and take notes there is no reason that you shouldn't get a B
Total jerk!!!! Your grade is based solely on tests and a very small paper. He didn't record one of my grades for a test and failed me because of it. After I showed him my scantron he refused to change my grade.
He is very boring but tries to make the material as interesting as intro level econ can be, which isn't much. His tests are kind of rough, the language on them sucks but i have heard others are much worse.
Horrible teacher. he has no enthusiasm at all. Very dull and boring. not recommended.
The class is boring and dull, but he's a decent instructor. The final exam was rough. He's also a Chris Farley look alike, and he should consider wearing something other than that blue/red shirt that doesn't quite fit him.
Well i thought this class was very easy. His tests are simple if you understand the concepts. The only time he pulled a fast one in the class was the final (which is worth roughly 37% of the grade.) Doesn't provide hardly any feedback if you need it. dull and boring course, but its not his fault.
As an Econ/Finance major, I feared this class a little after taking Macro. However, I could say that one of his classes was more useful than my entire principles of Macro. I recommend him to anyone taking Micro...GREAT TEACHER
taught the class well
a good teacher. his tests were easy 100%. he even used marijuana sales to illustrate the strength of the "market." its a dull class, so you gotta expect that, but he tried to lighten up as much as possible.
His lessons put me to sleep like a bottle of Nyquil. I struggled to stay awake in the class. His tests do NOT come from his teachings. They are stock questions he must have bought from a textbook dealer. I would recommend a different teacher.
Very boring, but the class is easy. Unfortunately, I had him at 8 for 111 and 9:30 for 112. The tests come from his notes, so paying attention and showing up is of slight importance.
Very easy.
Very boring. If you can get past that and systematically follow the points he makes, the class is very simple. Very convincing-looking Chris Farley stand in but not much of a motivational speaker.
puts you to sleep, drones on forever, takes his tests off his notes you slept through...just walks in and starts writing on the board...no hellos...just dull and unfriendly. not reccommended.
He's a dull guy but a great teacher. Even I understood economics after his class, and believe me, that's saying a lot. Just don't take it at 8 a.m. if you actually want to be awake.
Wow, he's definitely not the most interesting teacher, but he's very good at what he does. His classes were very dry and boring, but he definitely taught the material well. I'd recommend taking him for this class. And, he looks like Chris Farley, which is cool.
I would recommend him. He explains things very thouroughly and relates ALL the material to real-life.
If you show up to class and write down everything that he puts on the board, you will get an A. He's kinda boring, but he knows his stuff. There is one short paper at the end but that is the only assingment you will get all year. Overall it's a very easy and stress-free class.
showed up only on test days and passed his class with a B... get your tests from people who have taken the class before and study them word for word.
Econ is hard and boring, but I think Richards did an excellent job teaching the subject. Outside of class he's a really cool guy too. Don't expect to screw around in his class. Go to every class, take notes, study and you will be fine.
Great teacher. Explains things very well. But the class itself is hard as hell.
One of the best teachers at SIUE! If you have to take Econ take it with him, especially if you test well and don't like homework!
BORING class, but he he pretty smart about the topics at hand and explains VERY CLEARLY so you understand. just go 2 class and get all the notes and study them! and thats about it.
One of the best teachers Ive had at SIUE. He made the class interesting and had a hilarious dry sense of humor.
Boring class, but if you pay attention then you will do good in this class.
He teaches the material well. I wouldnt suggest an early morning class with him hes kind of boring but he teaches the material well.
this class is OK but very misleading. Be careful about the homework assignments on the internet, they are mandatory even though he makes them sound like they are just there for your help. Also he never asked for the homework (which counts 20% of your grade)to be turned in. He makes everything seem crystal clear in class but the tests are difficult.
Econ is very hard--I had to take it twice, but I think Richards does an excellent job of explaining the material. Also, if you have problems you can go to his office and he will go over eveything with you. He is by far the most helpful prof I have had.
Very Nice Guy! He is very smart. Tests are kind of hard, but if you go to class you will be fine.
Really intelligent guy....great teacher!
great teacher!! explains the materials very well. As long as you pay attention in class, you wont have to study outside class to do well. The tests are multiple choices and really easy.
very nice guy. discusses every little detail so if you don't know the subject, he explains or will always go over it with you one on one until you get it, but if you already know the material, like this class for me was a high school refresher, it's incredibly boring to pay attention. tests are super easy
Richards made Econ 111 great. His lectures were straight forward and to the point. What was even better were his test, they were multiple choice and simple. His final is a little more difficult, but he warns you of that from the beginning. Great teacher, probably my favorite so far at SIUE.
he's awesome! he genuinely wants everyone to learn. he repeats stuff a lot so if you miss class it isnt a big deal. no homework. tests are fairly easy. nice guy.
TAKE THIS PROF! He is extremely easy, but not because it's an easy class. He literally doesn't teach, but just expresses the material WITH NO BOOK! He uses a lot of graphs and a lot of concepts that he explains in full detail. He can (is) boring, but would you rather sleep and an get A or study-udy-udy and get an F? He is a great prof by all means.
Mr. Richards is a great instructor. He explains everything in complete detail, but makes instructions clear enough, and keeps the pace steady enough, that everyone can follow along. The entire grade in his class rests on just a few tests and a small paper, but the tests are very easy if you just show up and pay attention.
AMAZING teacher - Especially for economics. TAKE HIS CLASSES! At times, it's boring, but it's easy, and simple to understand. He explains everything thoroughly in a way that everyone can understand it.
professor warren looks like a dinosaur,he is knowledgeable in other words he knows his stuff deeply,he knows what he is talking about, he is a genious, that is what i meant,he is clear on what he teach.i would like to have him again.
He is an okay lecturer...very dry at times very hard to listen to. His test suck only because they don't cover everything we covered in class it's so annoying. We only have four grades two test and a final and a writing assignment. It might sound good but if you bomb a test your screwed. If i were you i would survey my options before taking him.
He is very boring to listen to, but I assume it has something to do with the terribly boring material. 80% of your grade will some from 3 tests, but he's still probably one of the better ECON professors of the bunch. Just study and show up and you should get a B or higher.
Not too much work. Pretty easy if you have background in calculus. Nice guy. SUPER boring, but his bad jokes that only he laughs at and uninteresting attitude is pretty funny itself. Not a bad class to take!!
Very easy teacher and great at that. Just come to class and take notes because he barely uses the textbook. Virtually all tests and assignments are based on his lecture notes.
Good professor overall. Very good lecturer. Although it is boring, he explains things thoroughly without talking down to you. Always willing to help. Take him for sure!
Very easy to pass the class, yet I still learned alot
one of my favorite teachers. yes, he can be boring at times, but he explains concepts very well. he is a nice guy and he is willing to help if needed.
Dr. Richards is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made economics easy to learn, do well in, and most importantly, FUN! His stories and jokes were not only entertaining and made class interesting, but also were great examples of the topic we were covering. The exams came right from the notes. It was all just memorization. TAKE HIM!
Great teacher. Made economics very interesting. I actually looked forward to going to class most days. Only has a few test grades though which can be challenging. As long as you study, passing shouldn't be hard.
Richards is a great professor! He comes to class ready to teach every day that the class meets. He teaches amazingly all from memory and doesn't glance off of any paper or anything the entire class. The material on each test can be found in your notes. To do well, just read over your notes and make sure you understand the material!
Easy class. He teaches from pure memory. Tests are straight foward and no quizzes or homework.
Richards is a great teacher. He knows what hes doing and know how to teach hard material. First part of class you should get a 100, but keep with the second half because it gets hard quick, never went to SI but it is available, not many grades in the class so take tests seriously. Lets class out early everyday, to the point kinda guy
Richards is the best MS250 teacher at SIUE. He teaches at a slow pace, is very responsive to questions and doesnt have an aggressive agenda. He never rushes to finish anything and even lets the class out early every day. Watch out on the final, he has some limit problems that will get you if you forget to study them.
Take him for MS250, seriously. Could of been a hard class, but he made it easy and understandable. I was worried about MS250 before I took it and end up being my easiest class. Grades are based off tests mostly, so prepare for them. Just make sure you do the practice exams on his website, the tests are very similar.
Best professor I have had at SIUe. He is a highly intelligent man who explains the work very well. To the point kind of guy.
Absolutely great teacher. He really knows how to simplify economics and make it very interesting and easy to understand. I recommend him to anyone who has to take a basic economics course.
Favorite professor at Siue so far. Some people find him boring and dry,but I find his dimeanor soothing. He has a way of keeping you calm and confident even when covering difficult material(I also had him for MS250).DOWN TO EARTH,to the point kind of guy.Always willing to slow down, even back up to keep everyone caught up. Def take him if you can!!
Really nice guy. He explains everything very well, makes sure everyone understands the material, tells what is going to be on the exams, and even provides extra help. I highly recommend this professor for anyone who has to take this course.
Interesting guy
If you are wanting an A or B in this class, I would not consider taking it with him. Exams are only 10 questions long with no partial credit given. You miss 1 you get a 90%, you miss 2 you get an 80%. There is absolutely no way to miss more than TWO on an exam and get an A or B in the class. Super nice guy but his exam set-up is horrible!
He is calm & easy-going. He explains material really well and gives you logical examples. He only teaches you what you need to know in order to make you understand better. I got an A in this class through listening attentively, taking down notes and doing his practice questions online. Write down everything he writes down & study, and you'll pass!
Very well spoken. Uses lots of examples in class, so go to class. Exams are pretty easy, as is the writing assignment.
The BEST ever! Go to class and take notes and you will pass. He goes by his first name "Douglas". I took him for both ECON classes and I will be taking him for MS 250. He does not use the book and he tells you that. Ask questions and he answers. Love, Love, Love him!
I took him for MS 250 and Econ 111 very easy teacher but also very smart! He is always there to help you! If you can find some of his test those are very helpful! Go to class and write down everything he says and that is the test
Very easy
Had Microeconomics with Professor Richard. He doesn't use the book at all and doesn't take attendance, but I highly recommend going to class for notes. Nice guy who will help students. Only had 3 exams and 1 writing assignment, so it is imperative to not fall behind grade-wise. My fav professor for sure!
Great teacher. Show up to class, look at your notes and ask him if you have any questions. Would recommend even as just a fun Gen Ed.
Excellent teacher. Attendance is necessary to pass, but an A is guaranteed if you pay attention and study a little.
Nicest man in the world. Willing to help but MS250 is difficult. The SI sessions are very helpful with this class. Doesn't use the book, must attend class to get lecture notes. Test questions often aren't covered in class. Test questions are much more difficult than what was presented on the board.
Go to class, take notes, review a little for the tests. I'm pretty good at math and this class was a breeze. My roommate took a different MS250 teacher and when I went to help him it looked like a different course. Richards stays basic in this course and just pay attention and give a little effort it's an easy A. Best teacher at explaining math.
Had Warren for ECON 112. Although the class in general is a bit harder, his teaching styles help make the material a lot more understandable. The only real issue I struggled with were the tests. The notes and definitions he gave us in class were worded no where near how they were worded on the tests. Specific and clear definitions are needed.
MS 250 is one of two weed out classes for the school of business... Richards is as easy as they come class wise until the final... First 3 test were east, 100% on all. Final was a curveball, spitball, knuckleball, aka HOLY HARD!!!!!! Really misguides you on the final. Had to get below a 67% not to get an A but the final pushed the limit I think
Richards is the best econ professor. Hands down. Only 3 exams and one tiny paper make up your grade. Go to his office hours and talk before the first exam so you know what to expect. The first exam screws everyones grade. GO TO CLASS. All material is on the board. Be friendly towards him! It can go a long way.
Great teacher! 2 exams & 1 final exam for the entire semester. Since there are not many grades taken in the class, it is hard to get your grade up if you fall behind. Very willing to help. Would highly recommend.
Very thorough teacher! His lectures are mandatory if you expect to pass the class because he doesn't teach from the book and anything covered in class will only be on the test. I went to one of his office hours and he confused me. I suggest finding a buddy to study with! The class is great and he had great lectures but the test didn't comprehend..
Such a wonderful professor. So educated and really cares about his students. For an econ 112 class- he makes the subject bearable. Go to every class though, because missing lectures makes the material difficult to catch up on and understand.
Professor Richards is a very efficient professor. He hardly uses the complete class time as well. I had him for a 75 min class yet we rarely took longer than 50 mins. I had him for MS250 and the first 3 exams were very easy but the Final Exam was very, very challenging. The first 3 exams are only 10 questions while the Final Exam is 20 questions.
This was a very simple class. All the notes were on the board so if you had those, you were set for the test. He doesn't take attendance, but makes all the material very easy to understand. We had 2 exams, an easy paper, and a final. All fairly easy. I highly recommend this professor. I'm actually taking another class from him this fall.
Great Professor! He makes this subject very easy to understand. He has a story for each concept to help you grasp it better. Does not take attendance and there is no homework. He also shorten the class everyday to about 50 minutes. I would recommend to anyone.
His lectures were easy to follow and he seems like a great guy; however, the tests he gave out seemed like a foreign language since none of the terminology on the test was ever used in class. This pattern repeated throughout the semester, and reading the book that he suggested for class was no help either.
Richards is a very interesting guy. He gets to the point and doesn't waste any of your time. He explains things very well & will most likely let you out of class early here & there. There are 3 exams worth 10 points a piece, a writing assignment, & a final. The review sheets are very helpful for the exams. Doesn't take attendance. Great teacher.
A very easy to understand professor. Took what could have been a very confusing class and made it clear. There are three exams each worth 20% of your grade, and all of them are very, very easy. The writing assignment is worth 10% of the grade and is also easy. The final is worth 30% of the grade and is EXTREMELY difficult. Like, unbelievably so.
Absolutely loved this guy. By far the most laid back professor I have ever had and treats everyone with respect. His first three exams were extremely easy, but the final exam was one of the most difficult exams I have ever taken.. study hard for it and you'll be fine. Would definitely take another class with him, though. Great guy
He is a great professor. He explains things very well and gives examples for everything. There is no homework or quizzes. He goes over every single thing you need to know for the exams in class so take good notes. This class is a breeze and he makes learning about the economy really interesting. Study for the tests and pay attention. you'll be good
Great at explaining the material and giving real life examples. Only 3 tests, and one paper (super easy don't worry!). Econ is a hard subject but Richards helps to make it simple.
Nice guy, chill lectures. Make sure you know the material, I noticed a few differences in difficulty between lectures/homework and the exams. Would take again.
Good teacher - if you attend class you can get a B or better with minimal studying. His homework is from the book, which sometimes does not coincide with his lecture. There are only a few exams and a final. Outside of homework, one exam could hurt your grade pretty bad. Not many options to boost your grade if you do poorly on one exam.
Professor Warren is an OK professor. The problems given on his test were typically harder than the problems that were given in class or on the homework. One fair/bad test and it could ruin your overall grade. He also doesn't post grades on Blackboard which is very annoying!....
I really enjoyed taking his class. A little nerve racking that grades are based on 2 regular exams, 1 paper (test grade, & easiest paper you could ever write), and the final. But his lectures are easy to follow. I had a little trouble understanding a few topics and he actually set me up with a former student of his to tutor me, it showed he cared
Richards is a very intelligent man who does a wonderful job explaining a tough course if you have never take Calculus before. He gives good examples and has a knack for getting you to see tough problems from a simple perspective. Take lots of notes, visit all the supplemental instructions and you will pass.
This professor does not prepare you for the exams so the SI sessions will help a lot!
Best teacher I've had at SIUE. I took a different teacher over the summer for the same course and had to drop it was so hard. Prof Richards did a great job explaining the material without making it complicated. He laid out what was going to be on the exam and the exam reflected it with no surprises. Homework was due on Saturdays every week.
I heard SO MANY horror stories about MS 250 and how hard it was, but honestly, Warren Richards made it seem not so bad! He teaches in a way that alot of math teachers really can't and only bothers to teach the things you NEED to know to pass. His homework isn't too hard, just once a week. And you'll do a way better if you go to SI Sessions.
Class is not mandatory but if you don't go, you won't pass. Professor is an awesome teacher though and makes sure the class understands the material before moving on. Homework assignments are so super helpful.
Recommend! i would take him again, easy A if i would of tried more! I never went to class and passed with a B. grading consist of few homework assignments and 3 exams, one being the final.
I heard that this class was really hard but I worked at it and ended up with a B. I think you just have to go to class and try your best to understand the concepts and you will do fine. Also, GO TO THE SI SESSIONS--I promise they will help you SO much for tests.
Professor Richards is a very caring and kind Professor. I respect him. However his lectures are a little slow so they get boring but that is not his fault he has to go slow for some other students. The class grade is almost entirely exams. Beware of the third exam, that is the only one I didnt get a A on. I got a C. Otherwise the class is easy.
Richards was great to have for MS 250. It is difficult class, but the man made it work. He goes through lectures so slowly (which can be monotonous at times) but it really helps all students to learn the material by not rushing through it.
Hardly any homework which is nice. He's super chill and laid back we always left class like 15 mins early. He also doesn't have class the class before the test. The tests are only made up of 10 questions so that can be a little hard since you don't have any room for mistakes. I would definitely recommend him though, I loved him as a teacher!
Math isn't my strong suit, so naturally i was worried about this class. The instructor completely took away my worries. Awesome teacher, Joe and Sara are also amazing ( SI's). i was hoping he was a teacher for ms251 but he's not. What a shame.
Warren Richards is a great professor. He basically boiled down the material to just the absolute essentials, and uses a step-by-step approach that is very easy to follow. Great combination of an easy class and still actually learning the material.
I really did not like him as a teacher. He was always late to class, his lectures were really boring and I honestly felt like I wasn't learning anything. If I had to compare him to anything, he reminded me of the Econ teacher from Ferris Buller. The only good thing I have to say is he always let us out an hour early...
Prof Richards is an an amazing teacher. Explains things well. Lectures can be dry, but its calculus. SI really helps!
The Professor is a good guy & clearly cares about students. Unfortunately he is rather unorganized and unclear on what assignments are, when they're due, and how they work. You may have to ask him multiple times to get a clear answer. The grades are almost entirely group-projects which is pandemic nightmare juice. I think he'd be great in person.
Terrible at wording questions, homework is busy work. Tests are only 10 questions and half the questions are barely logical. You're better off shooting yourself in the foot. He doesn't even work out problems in the lectures he just shows the work and answer and expects you to understand.
Great prof. Had him in person last year. A little harder in 250 but online.
MS 250 wasn't a terrible class. His video lectures didn't explain material well and the homework didn't have anything to do with the tests. Test material wasn't covered in lectures. If you already know a little bit about algebra and calc you will be fine but if not is somewhat difficult with this prof.
Prof Richards is great teacher. Knows the subject and explains it well. I'm not good at math, but he helped me get through.
I took this class online, and it was very easy. Professor Richards uploaded lectures that were very short, and web assign with 10 questions was due every Saturday. Besides web assign, we had no other homework. The exams are only 10 questions through blackboard.
Professor Richards is great. I took this course online. His lectures were Zoom and on web too. good lectures, class is a little hard, but math is not me.
I'm in this class fully online. It is just a college algebra review class essentially. We have lecture videos and a homework assignment to do each week and have a few exams. This class has been insanely easy so far and the work is super light. He doesn't make the class more complicated than it needs and is responsive to emails.
This course is pretty much self-taught. Pay attention to the lectures and review the power points and you'll do fine. Mr. Richards wants to help his students and is very responsive to emails and to students who ask for help.
As long as you pay attention to the lectures it is an easy 'A'.
Great prof! Go to class and you will be fine.
Easy professor thought a bit unorganized.
Overall a good professor. Weekly assignments did not take much time however the exams were pretty lengthy. Would take this professor again though. Very responsive to emails and tries his best to make the class enjoyable for students.
Professor Richards cares about his students. His lectures can be boring but he's good about explaining things slowly and making sure everyone understands. All exams are on Blackboard, and there is a weekly 10 question homework assignment. Homework doesn't really relate to exams, but if you take notes in class the exams are not hard.
Warren is such a good professor. You can tell he cares about his students. There are four exams and homework due each week. Homework is super easy and you have multiple tries for all problems. He explains everything super well. Just go to class and it should be an easy A.
He is a decent guy who cares, but relies too much on his slides. Spends the first 20 minutes of class going BACK over the last class and he doesn't see like he knows the material well. His attendance isn't mandatory which made it hard to want to go to class when I wasn't taking notes anyways. Everyone I know got a 70% or lower on the final exam.
Professor Richards is a caring instructor who explains concepts clearly. The class has easy weekly homework and exams, though lectures can be dry. Using Unstuckstudy alongside the provided materials helped me stay on track and succeed in this course.
Basically his class was online even though it was a in person class. All homework and tests were online. Tests are 10 problems worth 10 points. No chance for partial credit since all you put in is the answer. I got a A on 3 tests but then failed the final because of the no partial credit. So I ended with a B.
Loved the professor. Easy course he walks you through each new topic step by step so if you hate math this is the teacher for you.
