Assigned very difficult homework that students had no chance of completing on their own, and did not have a good sense of where students were struggling. Spent way too much class time on easy concepts and not enough time on the harder stuff. Didn't work through enough examples in class, so I taught myself a lot using the textbook.
Dr. Ghannoum was awesome he really help you out to pass his course. a lot of HW but his exam was fair.
Very intelligent and funny guy. Do your homework and he will give you a 100%. He lets you have notes on each exam and he grades fairly. Go to office hours for extra help.
I wish he taught more classes!
Teacher lacks respect, often dismissing discussions with "Do not argue" discouraging student engagement. Homework is overly long and impractical, with one-hour tests including 4 numerical, 5 true/false (requiring corrections), and 5 reasoning questions unmanageable for students. A respectful, supportive approach and practical workloads are needed.
He uses you and then takes the credit. He is the master of author manipulation when he submit paper. He adds people and remove them as authors. A person without ethics.
He is really amazing with Americans but discriminating with other nationalities. Very rude, and scolding is his usual habit. Can't imagine how he got position to teach in the US as he behaves like he teaches in a countryside in Lebanon.
He doesn't know how to explain the subjects as he rushes through the important parts while spending a large amount of time on very basic stuff. He loves to brag about himself and most of the times he is not telling the truth. He may suffer from bipolarity as he says one thing now and changes it one moment later. His statements contradict eachother.
He was telling Star War jokes to American females but really rude towards other nationalities. He had dual personality where he was laughing with girls for a minute and yelling at the boys of other nationalities just after that moment. He was keep changing his mind and still I haven't figured out what he actually need in a project. Very rude.
He knows his targets. He aims for the weak and vulnerable. He is selective of whom he would be really friendly with, and whom he would be really funny with. He exploits. Any chances he gets, he attacks. He is a coin with two sides. Funny and friendly for some, while rude and crule for some. You need to be cautious as he rarely tells the truth.
Once you made the mistake of taking a class with him, he would be chasing you for the rest of your life. He scolds and you would never forget. By spending a few months with him, you would waste a large portion of your life trying to recover. I still wonder how such a person is allowed to teach and be called a professor.
The way he spoke, he was like a genius but I tested his knowledge and I figured out he doesn't know much. I reckon it is just the absence of good quality professors that he is allowed to teach. I figured out that he just exploits students from third world countries and use their knowledge as a ladder to get fame. He might have suffered from trauma.
Professor Ghannoum is really friendly when you are not his student. He cracks jokes and pretend to be helpful. But, after taking the course he would change completely. He would be impolite and erratic. One day he smiles another he would scold you to smile. Very difficult professor to deal with. I would resign and change my profession if I were him.
While Dr. Wassim Ghannoum may hold a respected position in academia and has led projects dealing with advanced structural systems and materials. But, we can paint a picture of a professor who does not care about ethical responsibilities. Somebody has to teach him in a way or another to respect other nationalities other than Americans.
You could ask the international students who work under his supervision to see the real face of the funny guy. He laughs and cracks jokes but hides the real face of traumatizing students. He brings students over the oceans to the US to threaten them with VISA status if not agreed to do what he says. I used to love his character but now I despise h.
He is really nice and funny guy until you ask him with a question that he doesn't know. Then he would remember your face until seeing you dead. I have never encountered such a person. I apologized for asking that question, so, please let me live my life. No. I can't fathom how he got a job yet alone be a called a professor.
Dr. Ghannoum was really kind and funny guy but his mood was changing rapidly. Therefore, I believed he was suffering from bipolarity. A moment he was happy and another he was rude. He seems to be knowledgeable and professional when I saw him the first time. However, the end of the course would never come. When it gets to the finals, he scolds.
Makes you live in hell
Mimics you in a funny way. I think he should have been English teacher not an Engineering professor. He correct all the words you say while he is not that good English speaker.
If you want to be respected just praise him. Say anything that is not true about him as a compliment as you would be protected from him. Otherwise, nobody is safe from his rudeness.
Moody sometimes
He laughs erratically and suddenly changes his mood. Unexpected. Didn't know how to deal with him.
He forced his PhD students who work in the lab to come to guest lectures to show the guest that he has a lot of students. This is a form of lie so, I don't even trust his studies.
Professor Ghannoum was really shady.
This guy is John Snow.
What I figured out is he is in doubt about everything.
He should have been an interviewer. He knows how to ask but does not know the answers. He will use you to learn and get the answers for his questions.
I remember that he was hiring only Americans to work in his lab. I approached a few times but he rejected me.
He was nice and funny but I never forget the time he was keep shouting on me for asking a simple questions. He was getting frustrated when asked any questions. He favored to be listened than to be questioned.
A teacher without respect
Want to survive. Praise him with things that are not true about him. He loves that. Wanna be crushed, criticise.
He wasn't nice. Everybody knew it nobody said anything.
The thing is I have seen him scolding his PhD students. He appeared as a m*nster as I saw them shiver when he appreared.
I believe he came from a different background that is why he was trying his best to fit but he couldn't.
It is all about culture. He brought Lebanese culture of being cruel to the US and the university supportted that culture.
I knew he knew nothing but he thought he knows everything.
Papers, papers, papers. His main talk. But he was not knowledgeable.
Most of our class were from Nepal where you could feel them feared when he stepped into the class. They were sensitive to the door creaking. God knows what he might've done to them in the lab.
I used to admire his works but I worked with him, I realised that he has never worked in the lab. Most of the stuff were discovered by his students but he was taking the credits. Despite that he was not respectful with the students.
Very difficult to understand. Very erratic. Easy stuff is the priority and he could waste weeks with it and then the difficult part he rushes through. rude.
I have no idea where they found this man, he is absolutely one of the worst professors I've ever had in my entire schooling career. He acted like he was all knowing. Incredibly disorganized, boring lectures, terrible leader in every way.
I would avoid taking this professor if you are seriously trying to learn the course because he delegates most of his assignments. He also outright refused to make a review for important exams when asked by the class because he was too busy. And when he listens to you he is like a radio. Interrupts every sentence you try to say.
OH MY GOD DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Makes it his life goal to prove that engineering is hard and actively tries to make it harder. Boring.
Whatever you do, do not take this professor. Very lecture-heavy and his voice is super monotone with erratic laughter so if you are not interested in the course material this makes it even more boring.
I hate it when a professor lies. His whole career will be questioned. How can a researcher be a lair? How can they lie even in emails?
I don't know how he ended up teaching at uni and neither does he.
Don't waste time with this male. He has erratic laughter in belittling others.
Awful teacher doesn't. He doesn't continue his sentences. Continuously changing his mind. Nothing like a teacher.
Very complicated man. Skips the important parts focuses on trivial things and common knowledge. I didn't like that. I didn't learn anything new.
He reads the slides and skips the important bits. Be ready to fully rely on Yutube to learn. Very disrespectful. Very disappointed to see such professors in a prestigious American university.
Can't say much but he doesn't care about your learning. He cares about himself. Everything he says it about him nothing about science. Lucky guy who God knows how end up here at UTSA.
Just highlighted bits here and there from the standard without connecting the dots.
You would be amazed to hear truth from this so called professor. I can't trust any of his words.
Stay away from this male please.
As someone who seen quite a lot. You need to stay away from someone who tells lies.
He makes fun of himself by laughing erratically.
There are things yiu can't say on internet about this guy. All I can say is don't take his courses if you want a happy life as you will have a miserable experience.
Look matters, size matters, ethnic matters, gender matters, everything but effort matters when it comes to grading.
I still don't get it how can he get ratings above zero?!
You need to rely ob chatgpt and YouTube. His lectures are from a guy on YouTube but he doesn't know how to explain the materials.
This man deserves to be exposed. He doesn't know anything. A John Snow teaching at a prestigious university.
Knows nothing
A man rushes through essential parts and sleeps on the esay ones.
Prepare to be excellent in using Chatgpt, Youtube, and Science direct. He skips the important part and doge to answer the questions. He shows off most of the time but you feel that he does not know what he is talking about. It is strange that the university gave these sort of people a chance to be able to step into university. Extremely rude.
A chicken.
Mean and toxic.
There are a lot of things that are immoral but nobody can complain about. There are a lot of things that are unethical but law can't dow anything about it. When a person is immoral and unethical, they can get away with it for some time. This male is both and unfortunately he has gotten away with it so far.
You will be disappointed. Loves big course names but in essence, all have the same content (himself, his stolen achievements and his fake contributions).
He tries to be funny but he is not.
As a person who came from third world country, he was trying his best to fit in, but he slips back to his true nature every now and then. He was trying hard to be seen as an American individual but unfortunately it was just a trial. Rude, disrespectful, and funny.
His English language was really good for someone who learned himself English but this was his strongest subject. He criticised non natives where they made any vocabulary mistakes so, imagine what would you learn from him studying engineering.
Belittling is his habit. You would be disappointed to expect respect at all. He cracks jokes with natives in an attempt to fit in but his Arabic side is conquering all the time. He is stuck in history as he lives in the era of enslaving students.
Tough grader and rude. Exceptionally disrespectful whe you are a non native. Extremely civilised when dealing with natives. Bipolar.
Unethical and dishonest—this professor manipulates facts and exploits others' work for personal gain. A serious breach of academic integrity that undermines trust and fairness in education.
This professor lacks honesty and integrity, taking credit for others' work and misleading students and colleagues. Not someone who should be in a position of academic responsibility.
Unfair teacher.
He was trying to be funny on the expenses of international students. He was making fun of the international students. Not a good person.
Respected, NOT. Rude and disrespectful.
Prof is strict, unapproachable, and often discourages questions. Feedback is minimal, and grading lacks clarity. While knowledgeable, his teaching style creates a tense environment that hinders learning and student confidence. Improvement is needed.
Prof shows no empathy, belittles students, and creates a hostile classroom. He withholds help, grades unfairly, and thrives on intimidation. His behavior harms learning and morale. Such conduct is unprofessional and deeply concerning.
Prof enforces unreasonable rules, mocks students, and discourages participation. He uses fear instead of guidance, making the class stressful and unproductive. His actions reflect poorly on academic values and student well-being.
This professor misleads, takes undue credit, and disregards ethical standards. A poor example of leadership in academia and a major setback to those who value fairness and hard work.
He delights in confusion, ignores student needs, and punishes curiosity. His lectures lack clarity, and his attitude is cold and condescending. Rather than inspire, he intimidates—creating a toxic environment unfit for learning.
This professor prioritizes personal gain over truth and fairness, misusing authority and betraying the trust of students and colleagues. Deeply disappointing and unprofessional behavior.
Professor treats teaching like a power trip. He thrives on student failure, delivers vague lectures, and punishes without reason. Questions are met with sarcasm, and effort goes unrewarded. His class feels more like a trap than a place to learn.
Prof turns learning into torment. He's dismissive, vindictive, and seems to enjoy student misery. Assignments are unclear, deadlines unreasonable, and grades arbitrary. His class is a masterclass in how not to teach. Morale dies on day one.
Beneath the polished titles lies a hollow shell—loud in authority, silent in integrity. Betrays those who trust, buries truth for ego, and teaches not by knowledge but by fear. A cautionary tale in human form.
Teacher is the embodiment of academic cruelty. He thrives on confusion, mocks sincere effort, and shows zero regard for student success. His lectures drain hope, his exams ambush logic, and his feedback is silence. Education ends where he begins.
This person is the embodiment of academic cruelty. He belittles students, thrives on confusion, mocks sincere effort, and shows zero regard for student success. His lectures drain hope, his exams ambush logic, and his feedback is silence. Education ends where he begins.
He delights in crushing spirits. He relentlessly belittles students, mocks every question, and punishes effort with harsh, unfair grading. His cold disregard for learning turns the classroom into a nightmare where growth dies and fear rules. He is a toxic force in education.
Masters in deception, they exploit trust, rewrite reality, and use others as stepping stones. Academia deserves honesty—this professor offers the opposite.
A person who barely tell the truth can't be trusted to be a teacher
Tried hard to use his position to his own benifit. Nobody understands what he says. Very confusing even himself would not understand such a teacher.
As the rating says, he is an awful lecturer. Can't deliver his messages by keeping changing what he says. UTSA deserve better professors.
He is that kind of professor who shows like he knows much but he doesn't. When you take his course, don't be hopeful, expect him to be rude.
If it is nor mandatory don't take the course, if it is change the professor. You learn nothing. He uses it as a trial and error to teach himself
It is not exaggerating if I say, Nobody understands what he is saying including himself. Changing moods rapidly, changing statements very quickly.
You need to rely on Chatgpt as he usually divert. Bragging about his achievements. Not recommended at all.
He seems to care but in abusive way. Very sensitive to a degree he loses professionalism in handling a simple problem.
Before you take the course, you have high expectations based on his profile. But you will soon be disappointed.
I am telling you that your life would never be the same after taking this course witg him. You are going to hate engineering and even yourself. I am quite disappointed to allow such people to be in the community who discourage learning and brag about himself almost all the time.
Very slow in the introduction and fast when it gets to important stuff and hyperfast when it is urgent and skip when he doesn't know
I don't know how he deceived the UTSA to get hired. A man without talent and with bold claims. There is no evidence that he is knowledgeable apart from his mouth.
Funny guy. But I needed someone who knows a little bit as I went to the course learn something not to a stand up. Anything he doesn't know turns to a joke. So, you would laugh at that time and cry when you graduate.
Due to changing his mind constantly, you will not be able to understand all the concept well. Sometimes he may say timber structures are better than concrete structures but for the next day he may say "it is historically proven that concrete structures are best". Hope you imagine what kind of teacher he is.
This is the kind of person who is friendly, laughing, joking and friendly until the withdrawal time ends. Then you are going to see kind of his real face every now and then. Makes you wonder whether you can crack jokes or not. Psychopath.
From his habits, way he talks, and his behaviours, it is apparent that he grew up not seeing civilization, supressed and belittled his whole life. No matter how good his surroundings is, he bites.
Please know that you probably will not learn from him at all. He just knows the topics but changes his mind every second. Politician teaches in Engineering. Changes every statement he says. He cries with the same joke he cracked just a minute ago.
The all knowing man in his perspective but once you listen you realise either he doesn't know anything or he doesn't know anything about teaching. Confused and confusing. Wondering about nothing and it gets quite complicated.
THE GOAT WMG. Don't go by the negative reviews as it is most likely bots. This guy got me through solids which is a fundamental class to become a civil engineer. Best advice is to go to every lecture and office hours as he cares for you to understand. Tests are a heavy percentage so make sure you are well prepared. Good luck!
