I have a general interest in Law. But what I like most about this prof is that everything is straight and to the point. There may be a lot to take in from this course but he is organized and if you go over everything he posts, and ask questions where needed. It's an easy A.
Both his lectures and slides were easy to understand. He stayed on topic and took his time to explain concepts. He also gave in class exercises to work on so students are better prepared for the exams.
If you want to pass this class then you have to attend his lectures. He will include in class exercises to help you better understand the concepts and policies. Tests will be difficult, but as long you will attend the classes and participate then you will pass.
friendly, gives realistic examples, easy going and helpful, overall great teacher
By far the best law teacher I've ever had. Was clear in his instructions, made the class fun and interesting, and although the course material was tough, he simplified and went above and beyond to help you understand the content and apply it. In-class activities and online video lectures made this the best class for me this term.
Great prof, Keep up with the lecture readings and homework and you'll do great. I would defiantly take a class with Wayland again!
Great at explaining, but difficult marker. The content of the course was interesting, but I didn't appreciate his attitude when students asked questions he may have thought were "obvious" and then him assuming these students would not do well in his course.
Good professor and teach with real life case examples which helps students to involve in the study more. Use flipped class which requires students to be prepare before class and do homework.
Classes are interesting, Wayland uses real life examples to make it easier to understand the subject. You will need to study the course material provided before class; specially for flipped classroom discussions. If you participate in class and study along the semester, can easily get an A.
Proff. Wayland has the best way to teach law. we enjoy attending his lectures. learnt a lot about international law in this course ..
One of the most boring and monotonic teachers in the history of law courses. he has his own uptight rubric that he follows literally. serious lack of ingenuity. avoid always.
His rubric is not clear, I never enjoyed his video lessons or his lectures. but learned few things about the law.
Really a Great professor.
Chau's a great guy. His videos are quite useful if you like video lectures over reading. Fairly easy to understand and gives good examples. When you go to his class, it's mandatory participation so always remember to be prepared for class. His marking is tough but they do make sense so always remember to think more logically. Would take him again!
He knows his stuff and is good at sharing the knowledge. He's also straight forward with everything, no tricks. You need to go to class, participate, and use your brain or you're not gonna do well. Do the pre and post work (don't just guess), put some thought into it, actually use the feedback you get and you'll ace his tests.
He wont give you marks easily. Very tough marker. He is amazing with lectures. Explain everything very thoroughly. Good lectures for sure. But he should understand we are here for learning and to be successful in course with good grade.
#TeamWayland Great online video lectures. Grading: 10 1% quizzes, 10 1% online discussion posts. 2 open book exams. Exam questions are exactly like the prework and case study material. Whatever feedback he gives you write your answer EXACTLY how he gave it to you. Got 2% on my grade as participation marks because he has random pop kahoot quizzes.
Favourite prof! He made law enjoyable, was so easy to approach even outside of class, was so clear on feedback, and was always willing to help. I would definitely take him again! He was tough, but if you attend class and did the pre-work, he is not too difficult. A genuinely caring and knowledgable prof, who chose teaching over being a lawyer. A++
Highly recommend Wayland!
Wayland is awesome! I saw some bitter reviews on here, and they are obviously crazy. He put time and effort to do his own comprehensive summary videos. You basically don't have to even buy/read the book. Attend class always! The feedback he gives on your pre-work and in-class work will help you on examinations. Be specific as he is a tough grader.
dont take him ever
Relatively good professor. His classes are ones that you need to participate in to achieve a good mark. Lots of readings and weekly discussions that must be completed.
His classes are awful but mainly due to Sheridan's flip class model. Make sure you understand the topics before going in class because his classes are 90% group discussions.
Pretty good prof. The only thing is that he makes you work for your marks. Overall pretty cool prof
honestly my favorite prof at Sheridan, his lectures are so good. makes you do activities and plays games so its easy to stay focused. I already took him again for another course . just make sure you go to class and do the homework cause most of the exams are based on the questions you already do.
Awesome prof is well informed in teaching methods. Although I believe Sheridan's teaching system limits his ability to teach the course, he definitely does a great job doing his best. Law is not my favorite subject, but I did learn some useful information in his class. study smart for this course.
I've had Wayland for both Business Law and Ethics, and he is definitely a professor that I would recommend. While his class does require participation, it's easy to get an 80 or above in the class. The exams are open book and have questions that are essentially copied from the in-class and post-class work, so it's easy to ace the exams.
sometimes tough
Hard marker! Must come to class if you want to do well as every week you have group discussions.
I took this class because I assumed he'd be better at marking. Ethics is an easy course however he marks unfairly because the exam was only an hour and 15 mins, & class average was 65%. He expected details on the mid term even though there was less time. I think the proff should give some slack and be fair instead of marking so hard.
I know he is good professor and has a passion to teach. He marks really tough though, The feedback is very reasonable taking a good point of our works.
avoid this professor. I took ethics with him and we had a different professor for the first half which gave me an 87 on the midterm. Not to brag whatsoever but I have a 3.7. Once wayland came in affect, he graded the final exam at 57%, our group assignment a 60% and my reflection on my core competencies a 60%.how does this make sense Worst prof
Wayland taught me Ethics for the last 7 weeks of Spring 2019. When he gave feedback on group presentations for the in-class activities, he explained the feedback clearly, but his feedback was too time consuming. His lectures were short and he was right to make us work in groups and present the google doc. slides. Final exam should be week 13.
Great prof and one of my favourites in all 5 years I've been at Sheridan. He makes you want to do better. You will need to work for a good grade, but good grades are nowhere near impossible. He is very clear with expectations. Go to class and you will pass.
If you're gonna take this course, take it with Wayland. Honestly an amazing prof and he made the course interesting for me. He's very clear when he teaches and is always willing to help or clarify anything. The video lectures are super helpful to learn the material. Show up to class, do the work, and you'll get a good mark.
He is an okay prof. Gives good feedback for discussions and presentation. One of the hardest marking profs I've took before. Almost failed a reflection assignment.... How does someone almost fail a reflection?
Take him for law, not for ethics. While he can teach concepts well and explains them well, he is an INCREDIBLY hard marker. His marking scheme for midterms and exams make no sense, he will give you a question for maximum 3 marks that requires at least 4 paragraphs to actually get all the marks. He will judge all of your work harshly.
He gives good feedback but he's an extremely hard marker, lots of post-class work every week. His exams are online and open book but you have to be familiar with the materials and type fast. Btw, he gave me 50 for a reflection???
Extremely hard marker. He knows his stuff but his multiple choice quizzes/exam questions are really confusing and don't always follow the textbook content.
Very knowledgable and great teacher. Puts law into business perspective. Forces you to think logically. Very good law teacher.
Wayland is great! He knows his stuff and wants you to learn it too. His lecture videos are great and super helpful and during lectures, he answers everything with clarity. Although he is a tough grader, it isn't hard to get good grades. He tells you exactly what to do so just be prepared to do the work and the marks will show.
Extremely hard marker. His test questions and answers do not usually follow what's in the textbook. Tests and quizzes are extremely difficult. Only good thing about him is he gives easy part marks, but he'll still give you really low marks on exams.
Great professor that really cares about his students. He is though a very tough marker and makes you earn your grades. Despite this, he is engaging and loves to talk to his students. Empathizes with your personal problems for assignments, and does allow extensions if the situation is deemed okay. Overall, good prof, would definitely recommend him!
STRICTEST PROF
STUDENT EXAM GRADE AVERAGE IN CLASS IS 50%
I love the way he provides us with practical exams and cases which helps us to understand the subject with clarity.
One of the best professors I have had at Sheridan. Thoroughly explains concepts and doesn’t mind when you ask questions. The exams are a bit tough but as long as you prepare you should be able to get at least an 80. Marked fairly and he’s more than happy to give feedback. I would definitely take him again!
Professor Chau has been my absolute favorite professor at Sheridan. I took his class in Winter 2022 and it was so well taught. I had a really small class so he was able to help each of us individually. He is very knowledgeable and the case studies are practical and interesting.
He is not the best prof. He is a very tough grader. I had a bad mark and when I talked to him he disrespected me and didn't accept to listen if I say something he immediately says, don't tell me excuses it's not gonna work and you are lying to yourself.
I would say it is better if you do not take this professor. Even if you do really well you will still get a low grade. He is worst and complicated when dealing with group conflicts. And if you have any doubts he will make you more confused. If you do not want a low mark and do not want stress do not take him.
Students please do not take this professor you need to be Google to achieve a high grade in his course. How much ever efforts you put for his class is a waste. He is horrible at handling group conflicts He makes you deal with it and after you getting the mark if you ask him how could I handle the situation he remains quiet unanswered.
Professor Chau made law so much fun and relevant in my life. His class is demanding, but your hard work will pay off. He teaches elegantly, provides all the necessary material, and most importantly, cares for his students so much that he makes himself available as much as he can. I hope more students will benefit from his teaching .
If you want to save your gpa do not take with him. No clear feedback, expect you to read his mind and no more than 70% in any assignment. Please avoid
Professor Wayland Chau is one of the best lecturers I had during my time at Sheridan. He is caring, respectful, and gives a lot of valuable and interesting information. He is on the same page with students. I recommend attending his classes and do all the pre-work assigned if you want to get good marks. +You can earn bonus points.
One of the worst Profs I took with them. Literally very hard course, talks a lot without understanding anything. The midterm and final barely passed. they were very long, no time to finish all the questions. All of the exams were written and long paragraphs and would want specific wording to give you a grade. AVOIDDDDDD!!!!
His class lectures are not that effective. I think the videos he posts from his page on youtube of every module are better to understand.
The professor had used a flipped class approach to deliver the classes. It was one of the very few great approaches that I have personally witnessed. He does a great job of delivering content to the students through his PPTs and verbally. The every day discussion solving has worked wonders in understanding the case laws. Thank you.
I started excelling at this course when I took about an hour to watch the pre-lecture videos and embraced the flipped classroom approach. From there, the in-class cases and online case discussions were a much better way to fully understand the content. I feel I understand our legal systems much better than before, thank you Prof Chau!
Overall good experience and be ready for the lots of reading!
Posts the best online lectures that can always be referred to understand the content better.
He's a tough grader who pushes you to work hard, but it's because he genuinely cares about your success. His lectures are engaging if you participate, and even if you don't master the material, you'll grow in work ethic and character. He's one of the rare professors who truly invests in his students' futures. But the guy is tough, be prepared.
Professor Chau is a great professor who instills genuine care for students through his feedback and encouragement. 10/10 would take again.
He is very knowledgeable, his classes are very interesting and educational. I would definitely take him again.
I never thought I would rate my professor, but he deserves it. He gives you tough grades and makes you work hard, but it's because he wants you to do well. His lectures are engaging and so interesting if you participate and study before class. Overall, would definitely take another class with him. Amazing prof
Attend class, read and practice.
Professor Chau's classes may seem intimidating at first but his teaching style is exactly the reason why I went to Sheridan. If you show up to class, participate in the conversations and group work, as well as give your input in the discussions after the class, you will have a great experience, gain valuable insight and a great grade!
The first time I took law with Professor Chau, it was online, and I dropped out. Retaking it in person, I found the lectures more enriching. Attending class and engaging in case studies builds confidence and simplifies legal concepts. Attendance isn't required, but skipping means missing out on valuable, fascinating insights.
Best law professor
get ready to get cry. from unclear instructions about assignments and terrible lectures its a red flag. i normally boast a fairly respectable GPA but this man is out here having me questioning if im going to pass. he doesnt teach anything in class and tests us on stuff he never goes over. tough marker, and terrible teacher
yo chat fr dont take this class or you will get cooked fr like just drop out instead of taking this class.
umm guys so this class is not it and blud makes it more difficult to understand. got no clue what he wants from you and seems like a tough grader. thanks and good luck gang
yeeeeeeooooooooooooooooo dont take this class or ur gpa is done for
bro just yaps about nonsense in class 0/10
Worst Professor I have ever had in my life.
Don't waste your time studying because you'll never meet his expectations. He thinks giving hard grades is a point of pride. MADMAN.
You have to read his thoughts and write according to them, not your own. If you write your own, he will say it is not you who did it.
He has a very peculiar personality but always thinks he's special. It's a simple course, yet he constantly tries to make it seem more important than it is. Don't take it.
If you want to ruin your GPA, choose him. What a nightmare!
He talks nonsense all the time about unnecessary things. Sleepy. Stubborn. Doesn't listen to students' opinions even though he always tells them to think. Bring a PhD student's mind to his class, not a college student's.
Terrible professor would not take him if you care about your grade.
my guy makes no sense ever
He is overreacting. You need to listen to him, if you object then you should be sure that in the future he will pay special attention to you. Good luck!
Reflection assignments are usually a last chance for struggling students to save their grade. Most instructors would use that as an opportunity to help but he uses it to do the most damage. Instead of supporting students, he does everything he can to make sure your grade drops even further.
Wayland Chau is a terrible professor and doesn't know how to teach. Really strange deadlines and the exams: midterm and final aren't anything like he teaches. Won't take again 4/10
