This dud knows his stuff! Tough class but really worth the effort.
Hard tests, great prof. though. believes in the privite sector, stupid govt. and idiotic voters in this state (smaller classes is stupid
Seems to genuinly know his stuff. However he has a tendancy to rant and rave about the government in class. Seems to do more standing on a soapbox and preaching about things than actual teaching.
couldn't stand to listen to him talk.his tests do not come from the material that he teaches and he is on a soapbox. thinks he could run the country but obviously can't.
good teacher
His tests are kind of hard. You've really got to know your stuff because his tests apply what you learn to real life examples. He hates the government! His class isn't too hard, but it definitely isn't very easy!
Mr. Coppedge is a good guy, anyone who takes him should take some of the bias with a grain of salt. He reads alot of Ayn Rand. But get to know him, he's a SMART dude, and you can learn alot if you try. You'll also get a fair grade if you really do try.
Great guy, always a wait list for his classes, highly reccomended. By far the best eco professor in the Economics dept.
He knows his stuff, I'll give him that...but he doesn't concentrate on the task at hand most of the time. Tests are hard, but he gives leeway if he knows you're trying. Might concentrate a little too much on real life stuff than the text book...why buy&
What an pain to take his class. You hav to do book reports and tests rarely pertain to material which is ridiculous. Wouldn't recommend.
He is very smart and knows his economics. Expect to hear how bad social security and taxes are everyday. 3 Book reports and 4 Tests. No attendance policy
VERY HARD. HE TEST ARE EXTREMELY HARD.
Definitely tough class! Tests reflect nothing taught in lectures, so make sure you read, re-read, and read some more from the text! The only thing that helps you is the book reports! He is definitely voting for BUSH as well!
Tough to listen to, he seemed like he knows what he's talking about, but he would go off on tangents that don't reflect the tested material. I did well on the tests in this class, but my final grade did not represent the work i did.
Students looking for an easy A should not take the course because effort is involved to be successful. Teacher is good; tries his best to engage students in politics and current affairs. I found him entertaining and learned alot from him.
very good guy, loved lectures when I went, though they do not reflect the test very well... just read. The information is stuff that should come easy to most anyways, and you don't have to sit through a boring teacher.
Anyone looking for some real world knowledge should take this class. Tests are relatively difficult but if you read the text youll do fine. Class lectures are very entertaining, but make sure that you understand the material before he goes over it
ECO 2013, ECO 2023 Very smart man, definatly knows the material. Very good real world learning in his classes. The tests are not difficult as long as you do the assigned reading before the lectures.
Coppedge is a very nice guy outside of the classroom - he tends to come off as a jerk at first but he does have a lot of valuable information to offer. Your entire grade is based on your scores from tests and your completion of book reports. Never dull.
His test never reflected what he taught in class. Economics is an easy subject but this teacher makes it difficult
Tommy Coppedge tells it like it is. A lot of people dont like his classes because he is a realist. If you are one that likes to show up late, he will let you know how childish you are for doing so. Easy class if you keep up with him & ask him questions.
Coppedge is the man--he has real world experience, and tells it to you like it is. If you pay attention in class, the tests are not that difficult. This prof. is one of the best in the CCB

He is a good guy who means well. His opinion sometimes gets in the way of his teaching. Meaning he can somethimes go off on a tangent. His test are hard, maybe it's just the wording. You need to study. Buy the book! He will help you when you need it.
This guy is my favorite professor ever! He knows how the real world works and tries so hard to explain it to us. He seems uneasy to approach but if you really talk to him and you're not stupid about stuff then he is really cool....and I LOVE RANGER!
great guy, work hard and you'll do just fine he. actually cares about his students and the welfare of our generation with the country at a balance point.
His monetary economics class is excellent. You will learn the economics that you can really use to impress your boss, do well investing, etc. No wimps need apply though. Don't take his class unless you are willing to work.
His classes are pointless because all he does is complain about everything in the world that bothers him. He has very strong opinions and expects you to agree with him. I do not recommend him because his tests are extemely hard and he does not go through the material.
Awesome teacher, if you go to class and pay attention and read the book you'll cruise by w/ an A and learn a lot too. Strongly recommend you take every class you can with this man
very good class, but be warned...if you dont buy the book and study, you WILL fail. he's very compassionate about what he teaches and he's not afraid to say whats on his mind. other than that, dont take him unless you REALLY want to study and actually learn economics.
He has got to be my worst professor yet. His tests are nothing like what he goes over in class, and he yells at you if you ask a question in class because you should understand it the first time. Unless you want to fail this course, don't take this class!
Great Proffesor, knows what he's talking about but very often uses class to give opinions. His work is a little harder than other proffesors but after taking the class I feel I have much benefited. I studied hard and an A came easy.
Coppedge is amusing when he goes on a rant, but I thought this class was HARD!
This is a HARD class & there's a LOT of reading, but study & you'll do fine. Info is very useful in the real world. Very conservative. Very funny. Sometimes a bit cranky & goes on rants, but he truly cares about his students & our future. (Not at all bad looking for an older guy either!)
I have taken all ECO classes with him cause he is an excelent teacher. People who don't like him are all nancy boys, or weak. If you read and go to class its really not that hard. Not a class for people who are easily intimidated or offended. And I am a democrat. (see other comments)
funny in the beginning when he goes off on a different tangent, but by the end of the semester it gets to be annoying, test are very hard b/c he never teaches the material in class
He is a great teacher. You need to do the reading before you come to class so that he can reinstate and clear up anything you were unsure about. I think he was great and I got an A in his class going only once a week.
All he talks about is politics and the Fed. Knows alot about how the economy is moving anf it can help in the long run if he explained more on how we can use it. Funny prof tho and relaxed.
Kiss his ass and you got an "A"...
Wonderful professor. Loves and knows his subject well. I am a Republican and conservative economist and completely understand everything he was saying. Those that found his class revolting obviously are liberals who know nothing of how the economy works!!
Great class, highly recommand. I took him for Intermediate and principle and enjoyed his class both time. Teaches you stuff you can actually use in the real world. Tests are not easy, but come to class, take good notes and read the material and you will do fine. Class was very interesting, not a dull moment.
He's definetly interesting. He has some strong political ideas, so if you are easily offended, don't take this class. But he is very willing to answer questions and help you outside of class if you are having trouble. Tests are tough, make sure you don't miss class and you will be fine.
his class is cake read the book and spit it out.. how hard is that u can go to class or you don't just show up for exams and homework is posted.. come on eazy A read read read!!
He is very knowledgable in the field of economics. He challenges ur mind and encourages critical thinking. However, some of the exam material was not what was covered during the semester.

Tommy is a tremendous professor that I still keep in touch with a year after graduating. He truly cares that his students learn the material and be able to use it, not to mention the guy is extremely intelligent. He has a zero crap tolerance, but teaches w

Great teacher with a real passion for his subject, available for help whenever you need him. Advise takin him with the knowledge that you have to study to pass.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire college career.
His class is easy. But the guy is CRAZY! He will tell you every day how much he hates the government. He spends 40 minutes talking about what drives him crazy in the world today and 10 minutes lecturing. Be prepared to do some reading to get ready for tests.
Energetic!! Loves what he teaches and bashes a lot on political figures. Do the work study and you will be ok,he asked us to do 3 book reports. He let us use index cards on tests. The class got harder as it went.
Macro. Smart guy, great economist; not the greatest at teacing basic economics. Has a hard time explaining clearly on a basic level. You will fail if you do not read each chapter, take notes, and really study. If you fail the final, you fail the class.
This was the best professor I have had at UNF. TAKE THIS CLASS, especially if you are a libertarian, if not, even better. He will enlighten you as to economics and the world in a very clear and concise matter. Tests reflect material given in lecture. This is the only class I have really ever looked forward going to. Take Mr. Coppedge's class.
Coppedge is a very, very opinionated person, almost to the point where it becomes frustrating to listen to him, as he is NOT open to new ideas. Has a total anarcho-view of the government, and thinks that the world would be best off if the government ceased to exist (or at least in the economic sense). Guy is a total nut, sometimes it's comedical.
Good! Very clear, he will rant from time to time, but is very knoweledgable. Real life application is the concentration of his course. 4 tests, and 3 all-or-nothing papers make up your grade. Tests from review Papers make for an easy 10% if you just do them. Gives extra credit, very fair. Attendence is neccesary to do well. Do not be late for class
Make him like you by disagreeing with him. You have to have a solid argument. Don't try to kiss up to him.
easy, wants you to make a good grade. Full of it when it comes to politics, but you gotta take the good with the bad and just don't take his word on it, educate yourself.
His class is ok, but only a few actually pass the tests. He gives a total of 10 extra points, but you have to do three book reports to earn that. You have to pass the final exam to pass, event though you might have an A in the class.
AWFUL professor. He rants on and on about his narrow minded views. He makes you feel like a complete idiot if you ask a question. Test are unfair and almost impossible. My advice is to buy the book and teach yourself, or perhaps DONT TAKE HIM!! He says that the book reports are extra credit, but I dont even think he reads them or added it the
Know his stuff! Really enjoys what he teaches. Has strong opinions on a lot of stuff. Nice guy, though. Read the material and class notes.
I would not recommend this professor. The first 2 tests are moderatley hard but you better hold on for the final exam. There is no way to prepare for his final even his review does not cover the test. And if you don't pass the final you WILL NOT pass the class, even if you have an A.
Very different and interesting. You don't know if he is coming or going. By the time you figure him out it's too late. .. Best advise do every paper he tells you to do. If he asks to illustrate, show him a diagram or table. Presentation counts. Go to class if you want to pass. He'll notice your attendance. He goes over stuff a lot.
his macro class may seem hard nut you must try and you must come to class or he wont help you. you need the book, may'be a old edition, do all the book reports, and answer some questions
Very straight forward in what he expects of his students. Coppedge works hard to give you a firm understanding of the material and directs tests towards the people that come. Go to class and pay attention and you'll have no problem. Tests are straight from the lectures and the book. Don't expect to just coast through though you have to work
3rd time with Coppedge. You really must come to class and take good notes. In Fall '06 we never used the book. Listen to what the man says and you will be fine. Do the book reports because those are just easy points. For our class the first exam was take home (1 week to complete), but it wasn't super easy. 2nd Test was 5 essay questions. I got an A
he is awful...he only cares about his own opionion. If you dont come to class..he drops letter grades. If your 2 minutes late, your considered absent..he is rude and makes it hard for people to ask questions, without feeling dumb.
Have you seen The Lird og the Rings? So..he is a Gendalf...just crazy GEndalf...In the class we were reading articles from WSJ....and on the exam we had real questions adn problems. But we never seen them before no in the bbok, nor in the class.I like the books he gave us, and information is halpful in real life, but not on the exams.
Do any of you have full time jobs where you aren't required to go to work and you aren't required to do any kind of work and still get paid big bucks? The same with this class, go to class, take notes, do the work, and you will get at least a B. Exams are take home, search the questions on ask.com. Besides he tells you what's going to be on tests
Really a great and informative teacher. Talks about modern politics and special interest groups...how they link together with economics. A good ol' southern guy that loves the Gators. Go to class, read a few pages here and there, and study the graphs and problems...then you are for sure going to get a A or B.
i dont know what nerd are wrtinig on htis blog but let me tell you: coppedge is psycho! we never got take home tests. you never know what he's talking about because he's so busy talking about his personal opinions. YOU MUST PASS THE FIANL TO PASS THE CLASS. he doesnt care if you got A'S on every other exam. i had to take him twice.
He is very opinionated! He will get made if you don't read Brian Wesbury or the WSJ everyday! Noone really knows whats going to be on the tests or even when the tests are! 3 book reports, 3 tests, 2 abstracts. This guy needs to be a little more organized in his class. Tests are HARD. Only had 1 take-home.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He's very unclear about what he wants, and the syllabus changed about 10 times throughout the semester. He plays the favorites game too. Attendance is taken at random, and he will reduce your grade significantly if you miss more than 2 classes, even if you had a legitimate reason.
We had one take home quiz. The other two we were able to bring in a notecard for reference. The three books reports are mandatory as well as two abstracts. They are for ten points (not 10% of your grade). Some test questions weren't covered; you had to use some critical thinking. Rants at times but truly wants students to succeed in today's world.
Best teacher at UNF hands down. He gives you the best advice that you will receive in college in terms of how to get rich. The class is challenging, he does take attendance randomly, but it is well worth it. People who don't like him are lazy and do not care about Finance. This guy is the real deal, take his class! Liberals might hate him.
If you're not a right-wing neocon or a lapdog, you're wasting your time in his class. He's Rush Limbaugh trying to be Milton Friedman. Avoid this jerk.
He's very confusing, very opinionated, and goes off topic alot. I knew nothing about ECO b4 I took this class and I still no nothing. He was too fast paced and barely had time to copy notes before he was erasing them. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COST!
Coppedge is the man!!!..the semester isn't over, but we have already had 2 take home exams. I got a 92 on test #1 and a 94.5 on test #2. He tells you like it is. He will make you feel like a moron if you ask a dumb question. If you talk to him after class he is a gentle ben. I can't wait to take Microeconomics with him. Great teacher~
At first I did not mind him, but about halfway through the class, I couldn't stand to look at him. Makes students feel stupid, very unorganized, you will learn some real world stuff, but beware: He does not care about your grade. Must come to class! Overall: I would not recommend.
All of our exams and the final exam were take home. Our class just got lucky, wouldn't count on that in the future. Doesn't like laziness. Took attendance about 3 times. A couple book reports - really good lectures. Great teacher if your not lazy. Would recommend. No homework - but you have to study a lot and understand everything. Funny.
I respect Professor Coppedge and thoroughly enjoyed listening to his views and opinions on things. He shared a lot of very helpful real world advice. However as a teacher he was unorganized. We had two take home tests that were broken into two parts each. I don't even know how he figured out the grades. I also felt like he didn't explain the ma
Coppedge is the best economics teacher you will ever have. He can be kind of rude but only to people who skip his class. He will teach you a lot about the real life and I would recommend this course to everyone in college. Most of the tests were take home and are straight out of the lectures.
At first I didn't mind his view, they latter started to annoy me. He gave our class two take home tests. No homework. Test are mostly from lecture. Not going to take his class again.
Best Teacher at UNF
This guy is one of a kind. He scares you the first couple of days of class and is very intimidating. He teaches well but you have to keep your part of the deal. If you want to get an A, you must read the text, go to every class (he does random attendences) and pay attention. Its a hard A but you learn a lot. He's also a hard core gators fan.
Ignore the negative comments about this professor. He's the most intelligent and informative teacher I've had at UNF thus far. I especially love the fact that he gives students advice about how to make money and he has the goods to back it up. The man knows his stuff. Completely fabulous. Anyone who says otherwise didn't go to class.
It is in your best interest to take this professor. He is so damn smart and he makes the class interesting. He does not respect students who don't come to class and 9 times out of 10, he knows whether you're one of the students who skips or not. A few tests were take-home and he puts pretty simple material on the exams. He wants you to pass.
Great Teacher, he really know his stuff! and despite the mean impression he wants to give, he is really knid and want to help you getting a good grade
a damper to anyone's day. half the class is spent listening to him vent about the economy. his lectures are SO unorganized and SO unclear, and he is always surprised that test averages are so low. plus, you have to pass the final to pass the class... definitely DONT take him.
Prof. Coppedge is AWESOME!!! Take him if you can, he is SO informative about what is going on in the world today!!! I LOVED going to class even though attendance was not mandatory becasue he was SO INTERESTING!!! His tests are pretty hard but he lets you have a 5x8 note card on ALL of them including the final!!! You will learn A LOT!
This is one AWESOME teacher. His tests are STRAIGHT from his lectures, so go to class. He cuts out half the crap that you dont need to know and does a really thorough review for each exam. They are kind of hard, but if you go to class you will AT LEAST get a B. Helpful, VERY OPINIONATED, but well worth your time.
Prof. Coppedge might just be the best in the University. He is excellent at explaining complex concepts and is helpful outside of class. I have a good real-world foundation in economics now. Plus his grading isn't too difficult. Four exams, two simple book reports (on books that were actually interesting) for extra credit. Highly recommended!
If you're a conservative, you'll enjoy his class as you'll agree with most of his views about the government. The material is not really that difficult. Just go to class and take good notes and you'll do fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I STRESSED THE ENTIRE SEMESTER, BECAUSE THE NOTES WERE UNCLEAR AND HE MADE STUDENTS FEEL STUPID FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING THE MATERIAL!! tells interesting stories but overall NOT a good teacher!!
TOMMY, Is an amazing teacher, very helpful...go to class or else you will not understand the test, read your book but DEFF attend class...He is an amazing person inside and outside of the class room and will help you out with anything you need!!
Took this guy for Macro AND Microeconomics. Lectures re interesting, though usually not on the topic that you'll be tested on. So you kind of have to go to class each time to get an idea of what he's gonna teach. Atleast be there at the class before the tests, when he goes over some questions. Not bad, but not great. Don't take if you're liberal.
He says he welcomes questions, but he treats people like they are stupid when they do ask questions. Halfway through the semester, he tells the class that he makes his classes harder than any other teacher does. He told us that a C in his class, would be an A in any other teacher's class.
Coppedge is hands-down the best professor I have ever had. Naturally he is set in his ways and may come off as condescending because he is so extremely passionate about this subject. Those who attend class regularly, he takes care of. His economist teachings are powerful and logical - something all young students should be taught.
Professor Coppedge does a poor job of teaching the topics that he tests on. Instead he gives a daily rant that recaps the AM talk (Rush, Hannity, etc.) radio of the day. He will ask for questions, but gets upset when students decent with right wing talking points. He can be very abusive and often demeaning (even of other faculty). I managed an ?A
Of course it is mandatory to attend class. Why pay the tuition if you are not willing to go to class. He is an awesome teacher. He is very passionate about what he teaches and it shows. No his class is not easy but easy does not give you the opportunity to learn. He makes class time very interesting and enlightening. Take him you will learn a lot.
I took coppedge for mac and mic and although i dont agree with some of his hard views, I really enjoyed hearing his perspective. he can seem kinda nutty, but he inspires critical thinking in those who disagree. He is very passionate and a value added professor. Take him and hear him out.
Coppedge is one of the best teachers I've ever had but I found myself hating him at times during the semester. The first 30 minutes of class is usually him ranting but surprisingly you learn from this too. Definitely worth the money and time to take him but do not miss class.
The class itself is simple. There are three exams. Make sure you attend EVERY class. He will pretty much tell you what will be on the exams. He gets off topic a lot and expresses his opinion on politics every day. If you are an Obama fan do NOT take his class.
Pros: He really knows economics and makes it incredibly relevant for college students. His tests are decent and his class can be entertaining. Just take really good notes. Cons: He can be rude, intimidating, and make it uncomfortable to ask questions. Worth taking.
Don't do it. He seemed so cool at first and I was really interested until he started going on rants and his tests made no sense. You have to go to every class and take really good notes to stand a chance. He'll call you out for anything he feels like. Not a fan.
Became a great mentor once I got past the gruff, libertarian exterior. Coppedge and I argued head-to-head with opposing rhetoric every other class or so: subsidies of public broadcast and various topical subjects. I seriously honed my public debate skills and economic ideas in this class. If you don't like class discussion, go with someone else.
Great professor. He knows his economics, you will learn a lot from his class. Four exams, plenty of chances for extra credit. The effort you put into the class is what you get. Just read the chapters and attend class and you will do fine!
The class is challenging but do-able. I'm actually glad I took him as opposed to the other professors because he is definitely a "think outside the lines, question everything" type of person and i'm all about that. Warning* when he reviews for the exam, he makes it seem simple but make sure you read the chapters IN DETAIL to do well on the tests.
he gives 4 test, 3 over the semester and 1 final. he requires 2 EASY book reports. the tests aren't horrible but they aren't really easy. I've learned so much from his lectures that I can use outside of the classroom. He likes to rant, but he just cares a lot. Go to EVERY class even though he doesn't take attendance.
Tough class, but just pay attention and you should pass. He gave 2 book reports that were extra credit and they were very easy. Also allowed us to make a cheat sheet for the tests. Added bonus: get on his good side. I doubt I really passed that final without a slight curve
He was a great professor. Yes he goes on rants as most people has said but you learn a lot from them. He makes economics interesting and makes sure you understand. Go to class and take good notes. I'm going to take every class he offers.
tests not too bad if you study hard. You have to understand every detail of his lectures that isn't ranting about the government. Be able to draw all graphs to the detail. He will not help you personally. He will be extremely rude to you.He calls himself the high priest of the church of the truth. Hes extremely arrogant, although I do agree with him.
Avoid if possible. Exams are extremely hard except the 1st one. Take another professor if possible.
By far the best professor I have ever had! He wants his students to know the material and get their money's worth. He will rant from time to time but it all applies to the course material. I would highly recommend him to anyone taking Economics.
If you wanna pass this class you have to work for it. You have to go to class so he knows your face and knows that you actually want to pass. He acts like he is tough but he really cares about his students and wants them to do well. I like his lectures. He makes a boring topic more interesting. The worst part was probably memorizing graphs.
Professor Coppedge is something of a cranky old man, but he still can teach well and will grade you fairly regardless of your views. I never figured out his grading scale, but you can make over 100 percent on each test. However, those tests can be difficult, so be ready. Study, pay attention, and pass. It's that easy.
This man expects you to know stuff that he is suppose to be teaching. He yells at you for asking for help because, "you should know this it's easy!" If you need help you won't get it, you'll just get screamed at for not understanding. The class has 2 test & 2 "extra credit papers but if you don't do them he fails you. He's not good at all.
Not my favorite professor. Hes a nice guy with some interesting stories but his teaching style is not for everyone. His notes are unclear unless you read the chapter beforehand and you only have 4 tests and maybe 2 papers.
Professor Coppedge is the best! Not many of his students like his class but it's only because they don't show up to the lectures and then fail the tests. There are three tests and a final with two super easy book reports. Sit front row and make sure he gets to know you, go to every class. He's so funny and has THE BEST stories.
Coppedge is a cranky old man but he loves economics and deep down he cares about his students. Your entire grade is 3 tests and a final exam and 2 book reports. Plenty of extra credit opps. Go to class, write down everything he says, study hard for his tests and you will pass.
Coppedge is a funny old guy who can be mean, but is a really knowledgable man. He really wants his students to learn and cares about us. I recommend him. You have to take notes!! Only thing annoying is that he doesn't have a canvas.
Coppedge knows his economics, but tends to rant in the beginning and during the lectures . He also does not care to share his views on politics as you will see for yourself . He gave about 3 extra credit opportunities throughout the course and theres 3 tests, the final and two book reports . Make sure to STUDY LIKE CRAZY .
I took macroeconomics with Coppedge and Ive never met a more sarcastic and rude professor. I read the book, went to class, took notes, and still didnt do well in the exams. Hes not very good at explaining things more than once or in a different way. This is a very hard class and only take it if you already have a good grasp on economics.
The worst professor ever
The tests are completely different than what is taught in class. The notes you take dont correlate to the exam and the questions dont come from the lectures. The questions are applying concepts, but he teaches the most basic outline then continues on tangents and rants for the rest of class. Dont recommend. No canvas btw.
I took macroeconomics my first year at college with him and it was a disaster. This guy only has good ratings because of his in person classes, but do not take him as an online class! He just videotapes his head and rumbles on about random things while not even teaching the material. If you like teaching yourself then this is the class for you!
He is VERY knowledgeable and even funny at times. However, he does NOT like to repeat himself, esp. if he's made the point several times. He can be irritable and can come off as rude at times. BUT! He doesn't believe in busy work: no HW, no papers, etc. Just 4 tests. So the light workload makes up for a lot. Tests are hard though.
Best professor I have ever had. We bumped heads a few times, but if you don't back up your arguments with facts and data, your dead in the water. It was a hard lesson learned, but made me a better professional and person as a whole.
Taught the secret to studying economics and finance topics: i) write down what you need to know by hand, over & over, ii) find someone who doesn't understand & teach them (vocalizing reinforces understanding), and iii) time is scarce. Hypothetically, he wouldn't care if you were to crack a beer while taking your final if you're prepp'd to ACE it.
