Very interesting fellow, but I didn't learn a single thing in his class. All he does is go off on tangents and force his beliefs on you "my way or the highway."

Take this professor if you want to know what is going on in the world and his opinions about it. He has a high belief of always being right. Don't expect to learn anything about Ethnic Studies in this course.
easy A if you agree with everything he says and remind him of that often. very opinionated and emotional and not open minded.
Dr. allen is such a cool guy, he will challenge your beliefes about the world and he wants you to challenge his as well, we are all students and teachers.
He told my class that the only thing men want from women is sex, which many of us found extremely offensive. Lacks tact.
You gotta take this class. This guy is willing to here what you got, and boy does he have stories. You probably wont get hooked on ethnic studies but you will learn tons from his lectures about values, traditions, and many other things. This guy geniunely cares about his students.

He always told fun stories and kept the class from just being a straight-from-the-book lecture.
He is very one minded. He always says....everyone has there beliefes....but heres mine and this is what your going to believe. He didn't really teach much about ethnics, and his test....well they had VERY little to do with lecture...i would not recomend this class to anyone....at least not allen

Great professor. If you challange yourself you will learn a lot. Contrary to other opinions; he does teach a lot about ethnic studies, those who don't make the connection to what he lectures on (often current events) and ethnic studies, should have put more effort into the course.
He constantly talks about himself and his lectures tend to never be about ethnic studies. Also has a bit of a temper problem I think! He talks about odd things. Talks about sex a lot!! I would not recommend taking ethnic studies from him at all!

Dr. Allen is a great professor, very open minded. I learned a lot in his class, he challenges you to think critically and objectively about you beliefs. He tries to get the class engaged in discussion. Everyone should take this class.
He teaches nothing that is actually in the book. He brags alot, about himself and his brother. "Did you know that I was an undefeated heavyweight boxer in the marines?" "I can drink any of you under the table." "My brother killed 300 people with his bare hands, he was in Delta force." I'm cool!
He constantly talks about himself, says he cares about what you think but when it actually comes down to it he only cares about his opinion. I wouldn't take this class, at least from him.
I never learned anything at all. He just raved about his opinions and why he had those views. Very hard to know what to do when it came to homework and tests
Easiest class I've ever taken. I learned a lot in his class too. The point of his class is not to memorize some facts and take a test. It is to open your mind, break down stereotypes and think outside the box.
If you want a class that requires little effort, take it from him. He gives little context to anything but himself. Don't bother buying the books either.

Fun class! super easy tests and quizzes, and if you bother to listen, you learn a lot about the world and yourself, whether you agree with his opinions or not. ... he does have a pride problem though... so careful about how you approach him during class - be respectful!
Great guy
This was a very easy class. His lectures had nothing to do with what we were supposed to be learning, but it was very interesting. I only read a bit of the books, but you needed them to do your final project (easy). He didn't give us any quizes and he gave us the answers to the test the day before.
I d this class I had this as a night class evenb people that like this guy should try to listen to him for three freakin hours! All he does is brag i think he has some serious insecurity issues.
allen's a bit pompous, but you have to take some of what he says with a grain of salt. he's very opinionated and blunt about things, and i enjoyed his tangents, although they consumed most of the class and not much course material seemed to be covered. he's a VERY knowledgeable man, and i appreciate his honesty. i highly recommend this class.
Anyways, Wanye has incredible ideals and goals he sets for all students. His class is simple, because the concept of ethnic studies is common sense. Although, if ethnic studies is uncomfortable for a inbred student from small town nowhere, then yeah I wouldn't recommend taking this class. Wayne is very one sided, can you find a profes. that isn't.

Wayne is the man. He is very smart and is good at geting class discusion. People think he is to opionated in hes class but he is just playing the devil advocate to incourage class discusion. wayne he's one of the best teachers that sad old msu has.
I thought he was probably the worst teacher I have ever had..yelling at the whole class every day about something someone else on campus did....and telling us he doesn't brag though the whole time that was all he was doing....hes a werido and I feel bad for anyone who has him!
he treats you as a "scholar". i wasn't at all exited about this class. he talks about sex constantly and he gives the questions and answers to the test the day before. A MUST HAVE. especially for first year students

I love Wayne. No matter what some of you say. He is a very passionate professor. He actually wants you to learn something. Just because his class is not the typical lecture most MSU teachers give you dont need to think he is a crappy teacher. This man wants his students to become well rounded, educated people!!!
Sure he is passionate. But I don't buy stuff like "Gentlemen, this is what women look like!" when he pointed to some very unattractive naked black pregnant woman in the screen. Excuse you-I don't think that's a good way to teach college students to respect women or whatsoever. You love him, go ahead. Some of us don't. Free country anyway. Enjoy.

He is an excellent professor. He knows what he is teaching. Does not lie or hide any of his feelings about other even though some people will not like it. An easy 'A'.

I'm an international student and I think he's the best professor I've seen so far. He says very factual stuff. He's done so much with his life that half of us dont even dream to achieve. Some students dont lke him because of his attitude. Lemme tell you this: ignore his attitude and listen to what he says. View the world through his eyes.
Horrible! I would recommend this class only b/c it is the easiest at MSU and is cancelled half the time. We watched a movie on the mating habits of Heyenas....what does that have to do with Ethnic Studies? Also believes he can see little green people (no joke). One of the most close minded liberals you'll come across.
Horrible! Interesting at times but way to opinionated and very close minded...learned nothing in his class...not sure what we were even suppose to learn b/c he talked so much about himself and other things.
Easy class but no structure at all!!!! we just took our first test 1 week ago! unless you like listening to him brag about his life and what hes done great and how we dont do anything compared to him! take this care you will love it! i thought i could handle it at first... but i actually want to learn something now.

This professor talks A LOT about himself and rarely reaches a strong point during lectures. The class as a whole was not too entirely hard. Not a favorite class, and wouldn't be a top pick!
He needs to spend less time talking about himself, bragging about all he has done and name dropping. He needs to teach the class not leave and expect the class to function without him. Schedule your meetings outside of class and be punctual. None of the things he talked about in class was relevant. 3 hours of none senseless jabbering.

Dr. Allen may come off as arrogant and self-centered at first, but if you take time out of class to talk to him you will absolutely love him. He is very knowledgeable and can really make you view the world differently. The quizzes are challenging, but graded fairly. The exams are easy, but you have to go to class to be able to study for them!

Professor Allen definately doesn't hold back anything. If you get offended easily DO NOT take this class. Overall he is a fairly good professor. Loves to talk about himself and his conquests.

I LOVED THIS CLASS. It was by far my favorite class. It was very beneficial. If you get offended easily do not take.. but it is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. Very understanding with absences and grades. Speak up in class, participate and you will do fine. Also goes over all test questions before test so you should always do great
He likes to tell a lot of stories during class, which makes it very interesting. He's funny and tells jokes a lot.
The first day of class I loved it. Throughout the class it got a lot harder and annoying the way we stayed on one slide the whole time. Even though I got in trouble once in class, I went and apologized and he totally loved me after that! He's one of the coolest profs I've ever had and he class is an eye-opener. Ended with an A. go to class!
Love this prof. This was my second class with him, and there will be more in the future! He's very helpful, although a bit difficult to get ahold of. He's always willing to help out if something comes up.

Nice guy, very helpful if you go to his office hours. Misses class a lot, but is funny, very respectful man. If you're offended you're a fool, because he tells you up front he talks about sex a lot, usually related to the class. He swears and can be vulgar, but warns you about it and isn't trying to offend you.

Professor Allen is widely misunderstood. He teaches APPLIED Ethnic Studies, which is a realm very few people understand. This leads many to think that he's total BS or that you can get an easy A by chatting with him. Far from it; you have to earn your grade by demonstrating proper understanding of APPLIED Ethnic Studies and Anthropology.
Dr. Allen likes to talk about himself and go off on tangents. I actually haven't learned much from him and all of my learning has come from his text book and the website that goes along with it. I feel like this is an online class by how productive he is inside of class..which is not at all.
Ego offers no academic value...and neither does this professor. It wouldn't surprise me if he has written a positive review about himself on this page...he spends all his class-time talking about himself...what's an extra 350 characters.
I'm really confused about this class so far. At first his comments angered me, then I found him interesting, then I looked at the webste and found out that every 2 weeks you must read a chapter (some are 50+ pg), write 3 three page papers, take 2 quizzes and attend some kind of activity. This is a 100 level class and I DON'T have time for all that!
This is a horrible class, do not take it! All he does is talk about himself so you never have to go to class. But, he forgets to mention that you have to write about 40 papers you have to write and attend 8 diversity events. Its supposed to be a 100 level class!
1st prof in my 4 years here to require to think rather than memorize! Perhaps lectures are not the most organized and really more fun to listen to his stories than taught any of the concepts we had the book to reference, the internet, and our own brains. No cramming required! Can't fail this course as you get chances on tests until aced! LoVED IT!

I finished this class in the first 2 weeks of the semester. It can be done online and by reading your textbook besides your diversity events. Yes you do write 25 pages, but they are just chapter reviews and discussions and you have the entire semester if need be. Save the Quiz Answers and you have everything you need. Idiot if you can't pass this.
If you need this course as a Major requirement, then take it. If not, never take this class as a gen. ed class because he drops you a entire letter grade if you didn't go to the class everyday,even if you have full points for the course. He always yells at students...
This class is easy if you do all the work. I skipped class because I was sick of the professor talking about his accomplishments. He claims to be part American Indian (like 1/32) and is pretty annoying when talking about "his people" when he didn't grow up with the tradition or anything. Only take if you need it. Alot of work for a 101.
Quizzes and tests are easy, keep the answers to them and you get the tests 100%! however. You must write 26 papers and go to 8 events. He is very controversial and because he wrote the book needed, he thinks he knows everything!
I was amazed by the amount of work he required us to do; far too much for a 100 level class. He was really unorganized and attending the classes were pointless because he talks about himself the whole time. Otherwise, he's a really easy grader, and the tests are extremely easy (I got an A). Don't take class unless you're interested in the subject
I learned more about Dr. Allen in this class than I did about the actual subject. He likes to hear himself talk and unfortunately this doesn't help you with the papers and the tests. I do not recommend this class at all.

Dr. Allen is cool but he really loves to tell stories about himself. Pretty interesting and out there kind of guy, but you have to be willing to listen to constant life stories. Class is just a show up for points and essays are graded generously.
Prof. Allen is one of the most interesting prof's I have ever had, very friendly guy, very knowledgeable, but he lectures all class period about his life stories which is okay but you are graded on attending class so you have to be there. You watch a movie or two, and he grades the papers I felt very generously, the class is easy and he is awesome!

Very easy class. People get pissed cause he does talk about himself alot and his past experiences but he is after all a PROFESSOR not a teacher. He doesn't need to follow a state mandated curriculum. If you don't learn in class, then use the book like you're supposed to.

Dropped. For an online class, he required students to attend multicultural events every two weeks. People take online classes because they can't get to campus. I commute and when I was on campus, I was in class and had no time to attend events. Wrote own textbook, his class was run through publisher. Expensive book is worthless, can't be resold.

Professor Allen is a great guy, he does talks a lot about himself but I really like his stories, and he is a very respectful person. quizzes are easy (open book and unlimited tries), middle and final tests are long but very easy (open book), two short diversity papers. overall, if you need the credit you should take this class you won't regret it
His class is pretty easy. Everything is online so you don't necessarily even need to show up to class. I wouldn't recommend buying his book though. I didn't really use it and you can't sell it back either. He's a pretty cool professor, EASY A, definitely, but no need to go to class and no need to buy the book.

Professor Allen is a super nice and helpful guy, that will respond (or have a TA respond) ASAP. They will clear up questions about material the best they can, which I found extremely helpful. The tests are not very hard whatsoever.
By far one of the best professors I have ever had. His classes are very clear cut, although he basically will talk about his own personal life stories and not lecture much, he provides way more content than you will need for the course. Don't don't bother with the book. You won't use it.
I only went to class the first week. All of the quizzes, the midterm, and the final are all put on D2L at the beginning of the semester. You work at your own pace can finish the class early. Everything is open book and quizzes can be taken three times for the best score. He talks about himself so class is pointless. But is an easy A or GPA booster.
He's the ideal teacher. Talks a lot about his personal experiences which actually make the class interesting. He make it clear that he won't fail anyone so only attend if you're willing to hear his interesting stories.
Took multicultural ethics online and there is no homework, just quizzes, a midterm and final. Easy class if you do these assignments on time. You can work at your own pace so I finished way before the semester ended. He also gave everyone a second chance and reopened the quizzes and tests if you missed them. Such a nice teacher!!
Interesting guy. Yes, there are times he goes off on tangents and talks about his own personal experiences, but you will get what you expect from his courses overall. This professor is passionate about social justice, equality and challenging the status quo and really encouraged me to question things in a proactive way. Take him, open your mind.
Great Class to take for diverse cultures requirement. Satisfies goal 5 and 7. Easy A. 8 quizzes 2 test 2 one page papers I would recommend this class a easy gen ed. class. I finished it in the first two weeks.
The quizzes were easy and you were able to work at your own pace. Not going to class doesn't make your grade any worse, but going to class can boost your grade.

ETHN101 online: He opens the tests/quizzes since first day of class. The midterm and the final are the exact questions from the quizzes, so they are straight forwards. He sent out email on what ethnic-related videos to watch online. You can incorporate what you learn from the videos and from the textbook for the two papers you have to type.
Wayne is such an easy professor. Don't know him personally as I had this class online. Do not need to buy the book. I finished the class in 1 week. You have to attend two diversity events on campus and write a two page paper on it, super easy and stress free. If you need an extra credit or need to fill another goal area, I would recommend!!
Online and super easy. Exams and quizzes opened up right away so I got them done the first week of the semester. (With more than one attempt) You are supposed to go to 2 diversity events and write a paper but you can still get an 87% without them. Would take again!
The whole class is online and tests/quizzes are incredibly easy and allows multiple attempts. The textbook can be useful but honestly is not needed.
If you want an easy A, without any effort, take this class.

I took a class online taught by this professor. Some of the rubrics for assignments seem a bit tough to follow but he grades fairly and doesnt give you too little or too much work.
I took this class online in the summer which was just a two week course. I enjoyed it and finished everything in two days. It was one paper, a midterm and a final. Easy class if you need come credits.

Prof. Allen was an extremely to the point professor. At the beginning of the semester he showed us everything we needed to do during the semester, and told us to get started. Your grade is based off quizzes and papers, but the quizzes are all multiple choice and quite easy. The papers are graded very well. I highly recommend.
This class is soooo easy online. Just take the quizzes (most you can find quizlets for ) and 2 papers due at the end of the semester. Don't make the mistake of buying a textbook! I figured since it was an online class it'd be needed but not at all.
I took a completely online class. Grades were from chapter quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 papers. No due dates except the end of the semester, so I finished it really early. Syllabus says everything that's due. Some feed back on papers. Grades quickly. Multiple chances on chapter quizzes. One chance on midterm exams.
ETHN101 Online with Professor Allen was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. If writing papers is not difficult for you, you will do fine. There were two textbooks recommended for the class, but I really only used the Study Reader with all of the articles for the one-page papers. Allen is a super quick grader; I would take him again!
Easy online class. For the quizzes and tests use quizlet for help. The bulk of the work is for all of the papers. You have 10 article papers and 2 diverse event papers (about 1 page each for each paper). You will only need the course reader for the papers. If you are good at writing papers, you can finish the entire class within 2 weeks.
This professor was amazing, he gives you everything you need for the class on the first day and makes everything due on the last day of the semester. Super easy tests/quizzes but the papers are a little repetitive, just summarizing the chapter in the text book. 2 diverse papers as well but are easy to write.
Quite a few short papers but as long as you submit something you'll get 100%. Never heard from the professor but very easy A.
This professor has some strong opinions and he's not afraid to let you know. If you come to class it will mostly just be filled with storytelling. Pretty easy A if you just submit the 10 1-pagers, the quizzes, and the 2 diversity papers. You have the whole semester to submit them as well.
There are a lot of papers however, if you keep up throughout the semester, it is NOT a hard class. This is one of the few classes I actually learned a lot and took a lot away from and I appreciated his teaching and his TA's with feedback. I highly recommend for a diverse cultures course!

The class was super easy, there are 10 reader pages, with one page summary for each. Don't bother getting a textbook, every quiz answer is on quizlet. Just google it up. If you want an easy credit class this is the one.
Although everyone talks about the assignments and how easy they are, no one specifically mentions the professor. He tends to stray far from his teaching topics and tells you his whole life story. He's insensitive to people of color and uses word that come off offensive or indecent. Do not recommend him specifically, but the class yes.

EHTN101 with Professor Allen is an absolute breeze. Just some short papers, no need for the textbooks - Quizlet has all the quiz answers. Unstuckstudy was a huge help for study prep too. Highly recommend for an easy credit!

He understands we have lives outside of his class. You have until the end of the semester to get everything done (not that much work), very passionate, and he is physically unwell so had maybe 3 lectures total all semester. Great class to take, and interesting content, too.
My course only met in class three times in an entire semester due to any reason Dr. Allen couldn't make it to class that day, so I can't judge too much about him.
