we call him "Babin***k"
i dont know this guy just cant teach! f@#k
Terrible teacher, first class I ever fell asleep in
This guy is sssoooo boring.
Good Teacher, knows what he is talking about,
This class sucked, Wayne directs, he doesn't teach.
he is too boring, his voice is monotone, me so sleepy!

Terrible Instruction, No Help Whatsoever
he doesn't enjoy teaching and doesn't know who to explain basic concepts, AWFUL

He is the WORST POSSIBLE TEACHER, NO BS!
I hate this guy !!!!!!! Seriously , the worst teacher i have ever had
'baby-chunks' hates students and we hate him back
The man is a walking cure for insomnia. Worst teacher so far.
is this guy really a prof? he's boring, can't teach, did i mention he's bori
he is the devil
Quote: Programming in Java is more fun than eating pizza.
All i remember are the demeaning drawings our class made of him, haha
I remember the pictures I drew of him! hehehe.. I'll post them eventually
His emotions towards his students seem to range from apathy to hatred.
He failed 83% of the class. no more words to say about him.
been going to his class for over a month and have fallen asleep every class
Ones are too generous but no zeros on the rating scale. Terrible teacher.
he got have some problem, so cold-blooded

Fell asleep about 1412314 times, woke up, didnt miss ANYTHING... so, stopped going to class.. came back, still knew how to do everything... sad really.
Ya, passed EVERYTHING and he failed me...
boring monotone
The worst possible instructor ever - do NOT take a class with him if at all possible!!!
The worst thing to happen to computer science.
Not the brightest star in the firmament.
Now I have to take it over again.
Talks like Ben Stein...remember? "Clear eyes...it gets the red out...wow...". Very monotone, very boring, doesn't like people. Overall I give him a crap/5
No Comments
The thing that worries me is that he gets PAID to do this!!!
Yeah, really monotone...but he basically teaches everything right out of the text. You don't have to go to class, just memorize the text, and you'll do fine on the quizzes. No trick questions, just straight from the text. It's an easy A.
I don't have a real problem with him, but he doesn't care whether students succeed or not. He WANTS to fail you, so keep that in mind.
As a teacher he isn't helpful at all

Worst teacher ever if you could call him that. If he was my first instructor at this institution I would never have taken another course here. I would have moved to another institution and never looked back. This course was the biggest waste of tuition (Currently $382)
It is difficult to understand why the TRU Faculty Association would protect someone who is so clearly unfit to teach. When will they stand up for thier own credibility and stop protecting people with such abysmal records?
Seems like a decent enough person, but is obviously unhappy in life and makes it a personal goal to reflect that into his students' lives. Monotonous speaking doesn't say it all - turn your radio to a spot between stations and you pretty much have what its like to listen to him.
this prof makes me want to drop out of life
too much talk, not enough lab teaching. Will not be disturbed other than office hours. Knows his stuff. Misses teaching the essentials. High expectations. Exams are long and time constraints are ridculous.
I f*ckin understan more from the book than him lecturing me! The worst PROF ever!
You know the teacher in 'Peanuts'... mwa, mwa, mwa mwa mwa mwa! That's all I hear! The text teaches me more, but then he decides to test on mostly stuff not in the text! Clearly doesn't care about students! Very unhelpful and will publicly degrade and humiliate students in front of the class. Not very professional if you ask me!
if i had a choice i wouldn't pick him again. lectures were boring, i learned more from the book. High expectation, and helpless. he makes programming not fun at all.
I just had a Java course with him. He's unclear with his teaching and a bit on the boring side. He expects you to do a whole lot of reading on your own and have previous learning on the subject. I have never touched programming in my life and the whole course was a real pain. However I must say he is a helpful and patient teacher.
I don't know what everyone else is on about... Babinchuk is an awesome teacher; patient, clear, and while his lectures can be a tad boring, he's thorough in his explanations, and ensures that everyone understands. He is also understanding if the occasional assignment is late, as long as you have a reason and talked to him in advance. A+ Prof.
Great guy. Easy to learn from if you only need clarification. Easiest to learn from out of class. Boring, monotone voice. Amusing head-shape (it's what got me through those hours not falling asleep). Stick to the text and pay attention in lab, and you will do well. Try to throw your effort into lecture, and you're doomed! Morpheus commands you!
Great Prof. Like him very much. U can clearly learn stuff from him. And A+ is yours```
I really didn't like him. Did not learn much from him and I've learned more from the book. If I were given a chance to pick my Professor, I certainly wouldn't pick him
He's the worst teacher ever I have learned nothing. Simply don't take a class with him but there is no choice for this course. I wish if there was.:(
Bad teacher do't ever take with him...
if i had a choice i wouldn't pick him again. lectures were boring, i learned more from the book. High expectation, and helpless. he makes programming not fun at all. DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM, thats my advice to you..
Awesome teacher. Pay attention in class and do the practice questions he recommends. He will use examples from class on his quizzes, so take notes and study (duh) and you will do fine. Some lectures can drag on, but that just means he's being thorough. I never came across something on a test and thought "He didn't teach us this..." Very helpful.
His marking scheme is just cruel. Moreover, at times he is not very polite to the students and not helpful at all..!!!
Worst prof in the department. Marking scheme is both inconsistent and very skewed. Assignments are out of 2 meaning small mistakes which he will be sure to catch affects grades greatly. Leaves promptly after class without staying for questions often. Simply re-iterates word for word the chapters without explaining very well.
Helped me throughout the course and was a good prof
Worst CS isntructor. Don't waste your money by taking his classes
Awful do NOT take any classes with him.
I feel bad for the first/second year computing students for having to deal with this guy. You are better taking the class online, he will be reading the book&slides word by word! Hard exams and picky marking! I am happy that I will not take any more classes with him
Totally agree with the previous two reviewers. Bottom line don't waste your valuable resources. He is picky in every aspect you can think of.
Do not even thinking to take this course with him. He is really picky marker especially in test. If you do a silly mistake he will give you 0 with no mercy.
Babinchuk was a great teacher. Lectures are read word-for-word from the slides, which makes for boring lectures. However, his slides are full of info. You will rarely open the textbook for answers to questions if you download the slides. Outside of class he is very pleasant and helpful. He is a picky marker, so talk to him if you disagree.
Lots of whining here? I've taken two courses with Wayne and both have been fine. I found all the grading fair and the tests were exactly what to expect.
I honestly have no clue what these people are crying about. I just had 2210 with him and it was a breeze. Show up do the assignments and you'll do fine on the tests. Seriously though read the questions asked thoroughly!!
Teacher is very, very boring and dull. Lectures feel like they have been rehearsed for a billion years over, and not in a good way. Very very out of date. Tests are often either confusingly vague or excessively easy. Nice guy though, but not a good instructor.
This guy is an AWFUL teacher. Super nice guy. But awful teacher. Instructions are extremely vague, and critiques assignments far too harshly. He teaches out of the textbook, and uses only textbooks examples. If you take his class, be prepared for assignments that have no bearing to learned material and have no examples to learn from to do it.
I have pretty much got the logic right, and he gave me the mark of 2 out of 10 and another got 3 or of 10 (that's for the mid-term). Everytime when I ask some questions to him, he just said to me "I don't understand what your asking about", most of my friends taking/ has taken his courses said that he is racist. DO NOT TAKE COURSES WITH HIM.
This guy is an idiot. Do NOT take his class. EXTREMELY vague instructions for assignments. Then he takes 40% or more off for not following his unclear directions. He only has a bachelors in Comp sci so he is not experienced enough to be a comp prof. Very unhelpful. Worst teacher in the program, and worst teacher I have ever had. Should be fired
To call this guy a teacher would be a extreme compliment. This guy can't teach. He can't mark tests. He doesn't know what is going on, his instructions are vague, he provides incorrect guidelines for exams. You get less marks taken off for late/incomplete assignments than assignments that were not done according to his vague instructions. AVOID.
He's a pretty awful teacher. His instructions are vague, and he marks very harshly on them. The other computer science profs I talked to said he doesn't really know what he's doing. I would avoid taking a class with him, its a serious waste of money as others have also said. If you take his class, you can expect your GPA to drop
Really bad at explaining concepts and very vague. Tries to explain but fails. Marking is very harsh and labs assignments were all mandatory to pass (couldn't miss a single deadline)
I recently gave him my assignment. He graded it within 30 seconds and handed it back. Just put some checkmarks and X's on my paper. No feedback, yet gouged me for not following his unclear instructions. He gives assignments that he hasn't even tested to ensure they will work, or gives instructions that make no sense.
Mediocre teacher at best, albeit very easy to pass. Only possible to fail if you have no understanding of what he's taught in class, or just haven't bothered to read any of the texts.
Doesn't tread students as human and have no feeling
Rationalist doesn't give marks in assignments and tests not easy to pass do not wate your money
No comment. :
its average
Although many focus solely on their final grade, I would like to say that although I only got a C+, he is the best TEACHER I have every had. Makes you work for your mark, but I can guarantee you that getting a C in his class you will learn more and be a better programmer than a B+ in any other COMP professors class
We LOVE HIM!
He is probly the hardest prof you'll have. But if you pay attention in lecture, actually take notes worth reviewing, and thoroughly study before the tests, you will learn SO MUCH. Try to get an idea of how the lectures, lab assignments, tests(they're written by hand) are structured, graded, and you will save yourself so much trouble.
I think people just don't realize what Wayne is like as a prof. He's very difficult, but you end up really understanding the topics thoroughly. It's easy to lose marks on simple mistakes, so make sure your code works and you'll get the marks. Never needed textbook, tests are based on lectures and are written by hand on paper, so be ready for that.
Makes you work for your mark but he is very good at explaining and breaking down hard topics. Very accessible outside of class time and very easy to talk to and ask doubts. Taking good notes and studying them thoroughly is the key to do great on exams, combined with a conscious effort on the assignments.
You either love Wayne or you hate him it seems. He teaches the content very well and he knows what he is doing. Unlike some that read powerpoints for the whole class. The issue people have is his grading and harshness with it. He has instructions made clearly and you better follow them to the letter. Mistakes can result in a zero. I think hes great
Don't take a class with this professor. That's it.
Lectures are hard, Tough grader, and doesn't explain why he deducts marks unless you email him 20 times.
Although I did well in this class it was easily the worst class I have taken. The lectures were hard to sit through and probably the most boring lectures I have ever had the misfortune of sitting through. trying to re-read the PowerPoint is an absolute chore. I feel as if I have learned nothing the labs were super easy and the tests the opposite.
I will have him again in the future. Lectures are to the point and useful but can be quite boring. In terms of grading, 90% of the mark was based on 3 tests with the remaining 10% for weekly assignments. If you don't do well on tests, this is definitely not the prof for you.
awful teacher, makes fun of people not passing and is super uncaring ... his material could be easily understood but he just makes it hard
I can see why people don't like Wayne, but he really cares about students and gives good feedback. Accessible via email for questions, doesn't care about attendance - huge plus. He's beyond boring in class, but I never show up and just read the textbook. Never went through the slides either. I recommend getting the textbook and learning at home.
Three tests will make up 90% of your grade and weekly assignments that generally take up a large amount of time are only worth 10%. Lectures are extremely boring as he reads from 10+-year-old slideshows and his grading is harsh with little or no feedback. Do not take courses with him unless you have to.
Take this prof only if you can study well on your own/U a prodigy. Tests 30%x3 + 10% assignments. Difficult tests include long programming problems (more weightage) and few short answer ques (negligible weightage) usually tricky and easy to mess up. Get ready to get vague answers, incomplete explanations, boring lectures using decade old material.
Here is the trick to crack his courses. He tells you before hand what he's going to ask in the exams. During the lectures, he'll make comments like "This is something you can expect in your exams" and he would always ask those questions in the exams. Just make note of those question and answer he gives and write them in the exams.
do not take this guy !!!!!!! i repeat , do not take this guy!!!!!!!!
For a university that preaches about sustainability, This guy makes every student take a print out of the assignment when moodle and email exists. Horrible at teaching, and kills your passion for learning computer science. Do yourself a favour, don't take him.
I took this class as one of my electives for a biology major and enjoyed the class. Wayne is a little hard to interact with in class sometimes but if you try to participate and follow along in class this class is easy. Warning that 90% of the mark comes from test, which we are hand witting long lines of code.
If you are taking this class be ready to do most of the work by yourself at home as the classes are pure facts about the topic with very limited explanation.
Do not take. This class will kill any interest you have to computer science. Had to keep myself from falling asleep in his class everyday. Monotone, quiet and doesn't seem to care at all about the material. Tests were average if you understood the content from class, but again-soooo boring.
Be prepared to learn java on your own, the difficulty of the course was suddenly raised by 10x by the prof.
Do not take this professor at all. Very tough grader and his assignmnets are difficult.
heavy homework, hard to approach the lecture section
amazing prof, would definitely take again. He lets you know what's on each test so be ready to attend lectures.
His lectures are so incredibly boring. Expects you to know everything after he went over it so he doesn't really break it down if you don't grasp something very well.
Wayne Babinchuk is a tough professor expect rigorous studying for his course. His exam questions are complex. Your answers must be clear and thorough; partial responses earn zero marks. Ask many questions and study daily for at least 2 hours. Gauge your interest before the drop-out date consider online COMP1230 course as an alternative. Good luck!
Wayne Babinchuk proved to be one of my toughest professors. The feedback on assignments was sparse, with only underlined code segments and crossed-out sections. Understanding where I lost marks required seeking clarification, though his grading was accurate. More detailed feedback be helpful, I would recommend taking a different professor.
He is a tough grader and it is pretty hard to pay attention in his class, but if you do pay attention you will find out his class is pretty easy, he also asks a lot of past questions for his midterms and he even points out stuff that will be asked. If i had paid attention more i would have done better
Wayne might be the worst professor at TRU. He will NEVER give someone 100%, even if you did it perfectly. His tests are even worse, weighted at 30% each, and he nitpicks EVERY little thing. I can't say his lectures are good either because I'd rather watch paint dry. The only reason TRU hasn't removed him is b/c his serverence package is too high
DO NOT take him. Most boring professor ever at TRU. After 2 classes, I dropped it and took the course online instead. Incredibly TOUGH grader. You will lose marks if your answers/code are NOT perfect. Take at your own risk. I got an A when I took it online. Do with that info what you will.
His lectures are **honk shoo** and grading is silly. He seems like a nice person outside of school though.
Mdara Wayne ndewe kumama, Tizaaaaaaa
Wayne's lectures are fairly boring. He is an insanely tough marker, nitpicking every last detail. An A in another comp teacher's class would get you a C+ in Wayne's class. If your making your course schedule, try for another teacher if possible.
Not an enjoyable experience
I got C- for 1 mark. Please avoid him at all costs. Only chosen few are the people who make it in his course. If you are somewhat decent student, I beg you; please wait for entire semester, take an authorised leave if nothing works. Wait for the Lord Kevin in Data structures for next semester. No, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, ne
If you are a beginner, DO NOT take a course with this man. The people saying it's easy already know a lot in the subject. In the first part of the course he makes it seem like it's gonna be comprehensible, and then as soon the the deadline for getting your admission fees back is passed, he does a 360 and expects you to already know everything
Babinchuk's class is a challenge, but using tools like Unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help. Attend lectures, stay engaged, and be prepared to put in the work - the payoff is worth it.
Perfectionist, Run!
Avoid him at any cost. I swear on my father's life
Insanely awful. Holyyyy
Avoid him at any cost
The grading is unfair. He wants it to be exactly same as his powerpoint
This proffesor shoud not be teaching
Take an online class instead. Much better
I was told not to take a class with him. They were right
if you are a first year dont
He will tell you exactly what to study for the exams, and assignments are basically identical to them. You will leave his class feeling like you learned. If you don't ask questions and you use AI to get through assignments, you will probably fail. Wayne has high expectations, and you will feel it.
He teaching first part of the semester is pretty slow, but things get super rushed later on. Like, you might have your second midterm, and then just a week or two after that finals. He's tough grader and really test-heavy. I didn't make it, so I'll probably take the OL course next semester instead.
Never Again!
Do not take this course.
If you want to fail the course take his course
If you see him RUN!!!!!!
Absolutely confusing formulation of questions in all tests
