Everything but the tests is fine, but we all kind of hate the tests - they're never as easy as we expect. I think it might be doing all the assignments open-book. Still manageable, though.

best math teacher i've had at chemeketa thus far.
Stop the presses! Alert the masses! This man helped me understand math (and teaching online, no less)! He incorporates common sense and fun. Just a great class.
Hard class, esp online. Requires a ton of work and time. Good teacher though. Probably as good as one could be online, except he wasn't very good as responding to questions for help. He's very clear in his explanations.
Very unclear on how he is going to test. He makes the class much harder then he sounds like he is going to make it. This class will take a lot of work and time. Don't take when you have other classes that also need a lot of time.
This is coming from someone who got easy A's in Mth 111, 112, and calculus: Mth 243 is a B*tch. I took it online, tests were horrible, there was no help, no timely responses to anything and the book they used was crap. DO NOT RECOMMEND ONLINE!
He makes things much harder than needed.
recommend taking this class on campus.
Presents information in a way that is easy to understand. He grades fairly and gives students the opportunity to make up assignments and redo some.

Do not take on line!
I've gotten A's all the way up thru Calculus.. I struggled to get a B in here. Homework: tons and tons.. atleast an hour+/nite, EVERY nite. The book is terrible. Barber is a nice guy, hate to give him a not-so-good rating, but he never answered my e-mails? Not Cool. For 243, I would go with Farjami if possible.
He did not grade my work. He did not return my calls or respond to my e-mails. And DO NOT TAKE A CLASS ON LINE FROM HIM!!!!!!
This guy is smart, caring and very willing to help students. He is accessible and accommodating and passionate about Math. I really enjoyed his class. I will take more classes from Wayne.
Awesome teacher, very helpful and will bend over backwards to help. Take him he is what a teacher is supposed to be.
Rude comments from the teacher. Seems like his mind is somewhere else. Never responds to questions.
Mr. Barber is a VERY nice teacher. He is willing to go the extra mile to help you and is more than happy to talk to you on the phone about issues. I took his online class and will most likely not pass but I still like the teacher. The class is very hard though!
Not real clear what he wants. The homework is easy. Tests are hard. They need to be more similar to make it possible to do better.
he is ok
The subject was very difficult to understand. However, it wasn't Waynes fault. He tried his best and was very helpful! His homework grading was unusual and his tests were hard, but he was always willing to help you out. He had a great personality and was not boring. Someone who really likes math will like him!!
Tests aren't as easy as you think they will be. You are given problems to study, but they are not even closely related to the test questions.
Doesn't offer a lot of help in online classes. You mostly have to teach yourself. Also doesn't give you a second chance at improving your grade.
I really enjoy Waynes style of teaching, he keeps us all laughing! He is late to class about 2-3 minutes a day, but that doesn't stop us from learning. The whole class loves him, we are never late, we are ready to work when he comes in, true commitment from the students! I think he is just the best!
He was my favorite teacher this term. Very entertaining and helpful.
Tends to ramble. Need to pay attention to catch how problems are to be done. An enormous amount of homework everyday. Homework amounts to two test grades--important to complete and turn in. He is extremely helpful if you make the effort to ask questions. Likes to use the calculator and technology. Read everything, take notes, do the homework.
This teacher is more intrested in showing you how good he is at math than teaching it. He is very friendly, but not a great instructor. A lot of home work. He expects you will understand immidatley and he goes way too fast. I had to drop acccounting just to keep up with his crazy homwork.
Wayne may be a good teacher but unless you learn just from reading the book you should pick someone else. Not much for doing many examples to make sure YOU get it and rather expects you to "figure it out". I had A's and B's through Algebra and Calculus but this left cold.
it was very difficult
A worthless teacher. Absolutely horrible. He is a nice guy and everything, but being nice doesn't make you a good instructor. He assigns homework everyday and expects you to learn from the book not from an instruction. Take this class online if you can, you'd get more out of it. He doesn't teach any of the material at all. Look elsewhere for math!
A very bad teacher. Take him if you have not other choice! He does not like repating himself and he goes very fast.
Math is hard enough and I took this class online. I did not expect it to go as well as it did. Wayne was very quick to respond to all my emails and questions. His feedback was very helpful. The workload and assignments were fair and helped me learn the material. If you ever have to take a class online I recommend Professor Barber.
Did not like this teacher at all. I did not learn well from him, and he moved at a very fast pace. Sometimes he spoke about his opinion on politics which I think in inappropriate for a math teacher to do. Don't take his classes
If your a visual learner he is difficult to follow.
Moves through material quickly and can be very difficult to follow. He did not like to do review. However, he allowed test re-takes.
Very unhelpful. leaves you in the dark in online classes. Its as though your instructor is a non-existent robot. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with these guy. He doesnt even teach, you read the book and teach yourself. might as well take the clep test.
Never failed a class until I took one with Wayne Barber unfortunately. He is a worthless online teacher. doesn't respond to emails, doesn't grade on time, and doesn't do anything for his students. The worst teacher (if I should even call him that) i have had so far. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you paid him to pass you hahaha
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Yes, out of every teacher my entire life since Kinder, he is THE absolute worst. I'm not even sure if he knows he teaches Math 105 online. I would ask him questions and he'd answer something entirely unrelated. There's barely any instruction, and his grading is totally confusing. DO NOT TAKE
His way of teaching is not college level. He is better off teaching at a middle school. His lectures are based entirely on the book, he just copies what is in the book and puts it on a powerpoint presentation. He does not answer your emails, well he does eventually but it takes awhile for him to respond. Awful teacher.
Tests are nothing like the work. This makes passing tests even with good grades on work next to impossible. Work is not well explained, you have to figure it out on your own. I really regret taking this class with this instuctor. I have learned almost nothing and waisted a lot of time and money. I am an A/B student but will be lucky if I pass.
I am almost done with the class which I am taking on-line. This is probably one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. Don't even use textbook purchased for $161.00. Need the $78.00 fee for Course Compass, you use for everything. Not even the Chemeketa site. You need a proctor to administer the test or college testing center. HARD!
Didn't need to purchase book for class, CourseCompass has entire book. Online homework assignments are fairly easy. Teacher requires weekly discussions on statistic topics. Requires multiple postings and responses. Gives no feedback on posts, in fact doesn't even grade them each week. Tests are pen/paper on campus. Teacher offers no communications.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH WAYNE. Trust me he never helps and all he is interested in is showing how he know s math but not teaching the concept itself . I took statistic class (BA 276 & 376) higher levels at OSU and it was way perfectly thought well and got A'S in all but this idiot Barbra is the only teacher who makes statistics harder.Watch
Tests have nothing to do with the homework. It is impossible to prepare. I strongly suggest finding another teacher.
Did the online class.Online homework assignments were understandable. When it comes time to take the exams they have to be taken at the campus which is pretty stupid considering this is an ONLINE class. He tells you which questions to study for in the chapter review to help prepare you for the test but the test questions are completely different
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS! EXAMS ARE NOT RELATED TO THE HOMEWORK!
I took his online class and passed with a C. THis is coming from a guy that the last math class I passed was 10th grade in high school.I definietly hate math but this class was not that bad. You get a page of notes on test which makes it alot easier. Homework can be done over and over in the time frame to recieve best grade.Take him.
I am an A/B student and did not pass this class. Instructor does not give partial credit on tests. Trick questions on tests. The hardest/worst instructor I have had at Chemeketa. Take College Algebra instead.
This is the Hardest class i have ever taken. It gave me my first "C" on my transcript right when I am About to transfer. Use your book a lot because that is the only way you will get the material. I would have never taken him, but he was the only one teaching the class.
This class was horrible. The first week of class he says you do not really need a calculator, but does not show how to work most of the formulas by hand. The teacher spent much of the class talking about his political views, and stating how he thinks other people are basically morons. Studied, did all of the work and still only got a B.
Horrible class! I have gotten B's in math 243 and 111, and I am concerned with passing 105!! Test are not like homework. This is online, and he doesn't respond to emails, so if you need help before an exam too bad. Also its week 9 and he has graded 3 out of 9 Discussion boards. I have NEVER had such an AWFUL experience with a professor before.
So, I took 105 with Barber and got a D despite getting getting as on all the homework. Retook the class and got a C. I don't get that? Because it's easy stuff that I already knew AND you're allowed 1 page of notes on the tests. I'm thinking about getting my tests back and challenging it because I can't see how that happened....
Wayne was the worst teacher I have ever taken. He spent much of our class time talking about his political opinion. He disagreed with answers in the textbook, which shows how subjective stats is, but wouldn't allow you to argue your answer. He doesn't prepare you for tests. Until his class I was a 4.0 student. Worked very hard to only get a B.
Hard but interesting class. Don't buy book- can't sell it back! Buy e-book- less $ thru link he provides. Weekly discussions are impossible to solve but not graded on getting right/wrong. Tests are challenging. He will talk to you & give your graded test back to study if you ask. You NEED a Ti84 calculator! Use every video/practice/help available!
Worst class I have ever taken! Do not take 105 if you do not have to take math 111! The whole class is based off of teaching yourself the material. Wayne does not explain things well in class, however if you go to his office frequently and just ask for better direction he is willing to help. Tests were difficult.
As a person he's really nice. His teaching style is very different than most math teachers. For my class he read off of the power point provided from the book company. Do the homework because it's worth the same amount as a test. If he's the only teacher teaching, then be ready to find a tutor. I took him because he was the only teacher.
I had fine learning from him (use all resources and make sure you know how to use your calculator!), but he required all of his tests proctored. I had so many issues with scheduling proctors, and he was IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. I feel my grade suffered because of this. If you're a distance learner, don't take him! x10 the stress!
The tests were extremely hard. Hard grader. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
If you take this class online, be prepared to teach yourself how to determine the null and alternative, plus which statistical test to use by heart. Wayne gives no hints to which hypothesis to use on the exams. And he doesn't teach you this during the course. You must teach yourself.
I took this test online. It consists of a lot of online studying and homework, which isn't bad if the tests were anything like the homework. Tests were pencil/paper where you are given statistical numbers and you must do the 5 steps of hypothesis testing by independently, where on the homework it helps you. So, memorize the 5 steps for each test.
W. Barber = Nice guy but terrible teacher. Things that I didn't like about this class: 1. Large amounts of HW assigned. 2. He expects you to grade your own HW. 3. four projects assigned in addition to regular HW. 5. He will not calculate your grade (even though he is a stats teacher?! If math is easy for you then this might ok, otherwise beware.
Really nice guy, but couldn't understand anything he tried to explain. I felt that going to class was pretty pointless, because as soon as I would try to get started on the homework I'd have to read the chapter, and teach myself.
Math is not an easy subject for me and so this class was very intimidating. I've found if I don't know something I seek out help from the teacher and Wayne was always available during office hours. If you make the effort go to class and see him for help I feel hes more willing to work with students. Beware he does lecture fast. Great Teacher!
He is a very nice guy with a lot of funny cheesy jokes but as a math teacher he is probably the worst. If you take him you will need to find a tutor to help you or you can try and teach yourself. i strongly recommend not taking his class.
What's sad is that it's only week 2. Barber has to be one of the least helpful professors I've had. Doesn't respond to emails. Was condescending when I asked for help. Bizarre policy of wanting in-person exams. I literally just moved to California a couple weeks ago. I can't get a protector to deliver the exam. Considering dropping the class.
Weekly assignments took several hours to complete, but were manageable. Tests were proctored, but retakes were allowed. One project (solo or group) due at the end of the term. Barber didn't provide a lot of feedback, but it was fairly easy if you took the time to read the book, take notes, and pay attention while doing homework.
First time I failed a class! Don't take this course or else you will fail
Math isn't my best subject but I have the records that show I can get an A with the right professor--this is def. not the right prof. I want feedback from my prof--he's given me none, even when I specifically asked for it. Also it took him several days, sometimes weeks to reply to my emails, sometimes I'd even have to write him again.
Online program gives you assignments that take HOURS. The tests nothing like the assignments, worded differently, much harder. Takes him a very long time to reply to requests for help. I'm an A student, even in math & I'll be lucky to get a B. The way he states things is confusing. Forget about asking for help using a calculator. Google it.
Homework intensive; I spent at min an hr a day on HW. I'm very good at mth & found it hard 2 apply what I learned in class to the HW I felt I taught myself when I got home & the book sucks. However, he is SUPER NICE!, & if you go to his office for help he does much better at explaining 1on1. It felt like 2 much material for the class timeterm.
I took this online, which was not formatted like most online math with mymathlab and mymathlab exams via a proctor system. This professor hand writes exams, 3 plus and a final that is nothing like the online format of the mymathlab homework. It is confusing and tough. No help with the calculator and the paper exams are difficult.
Wayne Barber is willing to work with struggling students. He is also willing to work with previous students who want to increase their score on their transcript. Be ready to take notes and ask questions. Wayne Barber will answer every question asked in class until the whole class understands the concept.
I would not recommend talking this class with this professor. He takes years to answer and email, there's no way of contacting him, and he isn't very helpful. This was probably one of the hardest classes I have taken at chemeketa. If you want to take Math 105 take it with a different teacher.
The hardest class I have ever taken! I've always been a fairly good math student, but I spent hours and hours on this class and barely passed. I absolutely do not recommend taking this online, since you will essentially teach yourself.
I loved him. Yes, there is a lot of homework, but he is flexible on the due dates. I learned a lot in his class. His sense of humor is a little off, but if you can get past it, he is actually hilarious.
One of the worst courses I have ever been a part of or taken. Was taken online, which is typically more difficult due to you having to teach yourself, yet I've taken upwards of 20 online courses. This was the most homework intensive, unclear course I've ever taken. His tests were in class and matched nothing from the hours of homework you do!
This teacher is horrible. Won't respond to emails. 4 tests on campus and tests are worth 65% of your grade. I turned in all my homework and took every test and still managed to fail. I feel like if you put a lot of work in, you should at least get a D.
He's great as a person, but teaches from the book. If you don't understand the book, expect to spend lots of time at the tutoring center. If math isn't your gift & you need step by step instructions then this isn't the teacher for you. When I asked questions I was given complicat answers. You're given lots of homework like its your only class.
He would not go over what is in the book and still you have to figure it by just to complete your homework. Skimming through materials is not very helpful at all.
I really wish I would have listened to the reviews. Even if you get 100% on homework and 100% in Discussions, your screwed unless you can pass the 4 exams which are 65% of your grade. Math isn't my best, but I got an B in Math 111. I asked about extra credit and retake but still no word. Im so upset this is suppose to be my last class at Chemeket
Spent 3+ hours on hw a section & most weeks there are 3-5 sections to do. You're expected to just read the math textbook and know it. There are animations but be sure your computer supports applet. No feedback. Didn't give you tests back so you can go over them. I don't even know what he was there except the occasional email response.
I'm really good at math usually but this class was one of the hardest classes I've taken. Wayne is a really great teacher if you understand how he teaches. He is very lecture heavy and book heavy. He teaches how to do the the work for a bit in class but goes through it very fast then you are assigned a lot of homework for the chapter.
Wayne is a math wiz, yet I think it might be difficult for him to portray his knowledge to the class. He's very friendly, easy to approach, and loves helping his students out. Lecture goes by very quickly, so if you don't understand something that day, you better ask him later, or learn it yourself. The tests are tough, but he's a reasonable grader
He's a very nice and kind person, BUT not a good teacher. This class was the hardest class I have ever taken at CCC. Be ready to spend 2+ hours on every assignment!! If you don't easily understand math itself, I wouldn't recommend taking MTH243 with this instructor.
Wayne is a really nice guy and he cares about how you do in his class. He assigns a lot of homework questions (60+) which seems excessive . The other thing is his tests. He gives you a full page of notes but you still need to study!
Worst Math class I have ever taken. I was a 4.0 student before I took this dingleberry of a course. You basically teach yourself, your grade gets weighted in the end so you think you have an A, but then it drops to a B due to his averaging of overall grades out of 100 total points. Makes no sense and catches you off guard. You have been warned.
the absolute worst. I didnt learn a thing from him about statistics. Would even go during out of class times to ask for help and would walk away even more confused. You basically have to teach yourself. Hes very smart on the subject but very rude to people who dont get it first go around. I barely got a B and i am an A student... Dont take him!
This guy gives an amount of homework that is unacceptable for a 4 credit class, and only about 1/5th of the homework is useful and applies to the tests. I can't believe how much of my time this guy has wasted on busy work and in lectures that are never on topic. Don't take this class, if you get stuck in it like me, prepare to teach yourself.
This teacher, and the way he structures his class, is legitimately disappointing. He assigns a ridiculous amount of homework that makes studying for any other classes almost out of the question. I took math 105 with him, and he wouldn't explain exactly what he wanted format wise and would DRASTICALLY take from your points. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
I had a 100% on every single homework assignment and discussion board activity but due to getting two bad tests grade, I failed the class. Unbelievable. Literally 100 in everything but two tests that were around 55-65% each. If you put this much work into a class & get perfect scores everywhere but tests. You should at least be able to get a low D.
He's a nice guy but, I learned the material better from the online homework than from him. He encourages you to do the projects on groups and they don't take a lot of time. The quizzes were hard for me because I felt I didn't learn a lot from him. If I hadn't had done the homework I wouldn't have passed.
There is a lot of homework and weekly discussions but if you stay on top of it all then it is not too bad. Wayne is a very caring professor who will help you as much as he can as long as you talk to him. He wants his students to succeed.
Professor Barber is an excellent math teacher, extremely dedicated. Hes very approachable, awesome at explaining and walking you through tough math problems. It was really easy to get help outside of class hours. I would highly recommend taking him for as many math courses as possible.
Great professor, I struggle with math and Wayne was an awesome resource for me. I could go to him if I didn't understand the material in class or had homework questions. Assignments due by test day- highly recommend not waiting
The professor fails to utilize the skills taught in lecture and transfer them into the testing enviroment. Things will be on an exam that were not discussed in class and the exam questions are so convoluted it renders the learning material useless. I have never had an issue with a math classs and I quite enjoy math but not from him.
Absolutely the worst class I have ever taken. You have 2 days to take the exams and usually they are Tue. and Wed., because apparently no one has jobs and can just take a proctored mid week test. There is a ridiculous amount of homework and most of it is irrelevant to the exams and no exam study guides. Don't take this class with this professor.
Wayne is an ok teacher. He does explain things really well most of the time but there were a few units he wouldn't go as in depth on the topic that he should have. I would recommend to ask a lot of questions and attend class
Be prepared to go out of your way for exams. They are not online, even though the class is. You are required to go to the Salem campus or find a proctor to administer the tests. Being 2 hours from Salem and having no suitable proctors I'm put in a difficult situation and this information was not made available until the class drop deadlines passed.
Wayne is a really good guy and very flexible. He really worked with me, when I needed an extension on homework.
This was my first online class, and it will be my last. Professor was lazy, always took days to respond to my emails. Every lesson plan was copied out of the book so if you didn't understand the book, the powerpoint and video lessons were the exact same info, so you would be lost. Also no study guides for the test just more book work. DON'T TAKE!
Be prepared to teach yourself in this class. Homework and grading is all done online, you read the text book and do the homework. He doesn't provide any slides or lectures so if you don't understand a concept, good luck. This style of "teaching" does not promote learning what so ever.
A lot of participation required, which makes sense for an online class. We relied heavily on the textbook. He was a very fair grader and every time I reached out for help, I got it. I only wish the syllabus was a PDF instead of a web page so I could've organized it with those for my other classes.
He is a nice teacher but his zoom meetings are a little bland and straight out of the textbook so it's hard for me to learn that way. If you ask for help he will help you but he gives out too much homework sometimes 3-4 assignments a day and the tests are hard.
Since we are still in remote learning, we are required to take our classes online through zoom. While his lectures are short and easy; its very difficult to apply what he teaches to your homework online and later to your test. Definitely expect to teach yourself most of these concepts through the help button on your homework.
This class is truly a beast. As a freshman this year, this was my first online math class. I have never found myself wanting to drop out so much because of one class. It was horrible, to say the least, with lots of homework and due dates throughout the week. Do not take this class with lots of other credits; you won't have time for them.
Not bad overall but I actually had to correct him on a few exam questions that he had incorrect (kind of weird...) Not a huge fan of his discussion style - post your answer and regardless if you get it correct or not, if you don't come back and reply, you only get 1/3 credit. Material was mostly self-guided with the Pearson book/program.
So I will be finishing up his class this fall term he is a good person but I dont enjoy his class. He is a hard grader for tests and will mark you down for points even for little details. His class is only 3 days a week but will give out a exam, math project and 2-3 homework assignments during the same week. He goes very fast and goes off topic.
There are discussions, and lots of homework each week. Tests are very heavily graded.
Tests are heavily graded you will lose all points for a question If you miss any small details. Lots of homework for a 3 day schedule and for the homework it was frustrating because if you get the right answer it sometimes the system says it is wrong and some of the problems are worth a lot of points and his lectures and test are different.
He is very hard to work with. Only responds to emails once a day. Overall bad teacher. Won't even join the zoom sessions HE schedules.
I will say it's a heavy course, so be ready if you want this class. Has office hours after class to help you and will stay longer than he has too. Test are harder, and the hw/labs are pretty different from the tests. 3 exams overall, 1 final. Final replaces lowest score from 3 tests. Accepts hw/labs that are late by the next exam. Very Flexible.
I barely passed by 1-2%. I took this in W20, & he's still the most difficult prof I ever had. He isn't forgiving if you're unable to complete work, even if you had valid reasons. Our final was the week the pandemic started- he allowed a retake purely because everyone failed the first test. Don't take him, save your math credit for a different prof.
Really wants to help you pass. Helped me tremendously with learning about math and statistics and went above and beyond to help after class.
He is not a great communicator. Exams are worded so different on the hand written exams versus what you studied for. He only gives you one attempt for exams. He lets you know what you need to study for the week of an exam. One good thing I can say is you can have a one page written notes to use on the exams.
I took his course in-person during fall term 2022. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. I've never had such a horrible class. This is my first D- and because of his class I don't have FAFSA anymore!!!. He doesn't lecture much and skips through slides saying 'not important', yet it's on exam.
I enjoyed his class and did learn things, but my complaint is that I found it difficult to understand. I find most math to be very easy, but I struggled in this course. I think it was a combination of new material he was presenting (since he doesn't usually teach MTH231), and technology barriers. Not a bad teacher, just difficult to understand.
I took MTH231 (Discrete Mathematics) with Professor Barber in Fall 2022. I did well in the class because I studied the textbook, not from listening to his lectures. He's a good person, but he went on tangents often and used another professor's notes to teach the class. If you study the textbook and do your homework, you'll do fine.
These reviews disappoint me. He is an amazing Professor protect him at all costs, I read some people say that he doesn't review small things that end up being on the test and the truth is that is your responsibility to study outside of class to learn for those tests! Not a tough grader at all. please take his class! best college class experience
Wayne is a little more old school than I like as far as his teaching style goes. For someone who just got out of highschool Wayne wasn't what I was used to and my initial few weeks with him took some adjusting. For his age i was surprised to find that he was humorous sweet guy that is more than willing to help you as long as you ask.
It was clear that he cares about the success of his students and wants them to learn the material. There was a decent amount of homework, as with any math class, but it helped prepare me for tests. Attendance is definitely recommended as it is a fast pa
The material was easy to understand, although the textbook was required we didn't really need to read it unless you were stuck on a subject. It was also free digitally but you could purchase a physical copy. Wayne was a very humorous guy and if you were stuck on something he was very understanding and would give extra examples.
The course material is challenging, but the professor cares about student success. Attendance is strongly recommended, as the pace can be fast. I found unstuck AI and the free textbook helpful for study prep and staying on top of the assignments.
Great professor! If you do the work and put in the effort of learning, you'll get a good grade. Had a friend fail bc they didn't actually listen to his instructions or what he was teaching. Not super online savvy, but generous with due dates on homework. Took him for Winter term. Sweet, hilarious guy. You'll do fine if you pay attention!
Wayne was unhelpful and hard to reach and did not create a helpful environment.
