GREAT professor. Funny, interesting lectures and tests are fairly easy if you go to class. Easily one of my favorite professors, take any class he teaches!
Wayne Brekhus clearly loves his field and is incredibly knowledgable, always full of exampls and stories and excited to teach. The tests are easy, class isn't too bad, and he always lets the class out early.
Dr. Brekhus is amazing! He makes what could be a boring class fun. Especially when hops around and gets excited. He's absolutely adorable, and obviously very interested in what he teaches.
A great sociology professor. His enthusiasm is contagious, and as long as you pay attention in class and at least skim the readings you should do fine. My first semester in college, he did what none of my other teachers managed: he made me look forward to going to class.

Very nice, very easy
Great professor! He is very energetic and enthusiastic. He cares about students and is very easy to approach for help. Subjects that are discussed are very interesting and he has a good knowledge of them. Tests are all multiple choice and pretty easy.
lots of fun
He's the reason I changed my major to Sociology. I've taken two classes w/him and look forward to when I can take the next one. He's super fun and has great ideas!
An awesome professor. Extremely nice, funny, and energetic. He really loves his subject and it's apparent during his lectures. Great class, I'd recommend it to anyone!
Best Soc class i ever took, and I've taken a lot. He has a way of making everyone really love the field of Sociology, and creating an atmosphere for people to get to know each other (like over beer)
this guy is amazing. he really loves what he does. he's hilarious, plus he's really easy. take as many classes with brekhus as you can. i changed my major to sociology because of him.

He's amazing!! HOt Bod, funny, very good professor
I love Wayne Brekaus he is a wonderful teacher and knows what he is doing. He is extremly helpful with everything and a very understanding teacher. He presents his concepts clearly and is always willing to help a student succeed.Take his class if you get the chance!!!!
He's the nicest, funniest professor. I loved having him in class.
we love Wayne
Mr. Brekhus is the best, most entertaining professor I've had yet! He is so helpful and nice, and really shows that he cares about his student's grades. If you don't like your test grade, go talk to him. When taking tests, if you're unsure on an answer, write what you know out to the side! He just wants to know that you studied. He's a good person!
i've never had a better prof.
He is an awesome teacher, and if you go to his office hours with questions about the test, he will explain everything. If you bring up a valid point as well he might give you the points!
Funniest teacher EVER. When a cell phone rings in class, he breaks into the funniest dance. His tests are not hard if you go to class and take notes. The lectures are really interesting too. There is quite a bit of reading though but it's not always necessary since he talks about the readings during the lecture. I'd recommend this class to anyone
Wayne is may be the greatest Sociology Prof ever!
Very funny and goofy. Effective at conveying his lectures in a conversational manner. Easy exams, likes getting students involved.
If you pay attention in class (which is pretty easy because he is hilarious at times) then his points are very easy to understand. Tests are 30 mc questions and not hard at all! even if you're confused on a question, if you write what you know to the side he might give you credit!
He's a cutie and a great advisor/professor
Great class. Funny and interesting, good readings, and easy tests. Take a class with him!
He's an awesome teacher and i loved taking his class because it's actually interesting!
Great Guy. Makes the class really fun.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Not only will you learn a lot about things that are actually interesting & relevant to life (McDonalds, what makes a person attractive in society, the sociology of Christmas cards) the tests are really straightforward and easy to ace. Do the reading, the studyguide & go to class because he tests over what he talks about in class!
Good teacher, teaches everything he assigns as reading so I didn't read any assignment the whole semester
Absolute ACE prof. I've had him for two classes and I can't wait for the next. He's the reason I switched my major to Soc. and maybe the reason why I'm still in college. AMAZING guy take his classes Soc. 1000 and Soc. 2300. Hope he teaches my capstone!
I absolutely love this man! He is a fantastic teacher. The material in the class is really easy, and really applies to life. I would recommend taking a class from him, because it is so easy and you learn so much :)
I LVOE BURKEYYY! He is extremely funny & the class is a sinch if you come to every lecture and take good notes (you don't even have to read) <--although the books are interesting.
AMAZING TEACHER who truly cares about students learning, a hard to come by quality in education at Mizzou. I have taken three of his classes and would take another if offered!
Lots of reading but he repeats it all in class. Big lectures and sometimes he repeats himself with lectures from earlier in the week. Test was a bit difficult if you didn't read. Notes are taken but not much. He's energetic, funny, kinda goofy, but the class is not the worst one out there and is definitely passable
WHAT AN AWSOME TEACHER! so far, he is definitly my favorite! he has a great sense of humor and is extremely goofy! there is a lot of reading, but i hardly ever read and just took decent notes and got an A+ on all of my tests! i would definitly recommend this class to anyone!
Brekhus was a wonderful teacher! Very entertaining!.. Would suggest taking any of his classes. He has a great sense of humor!
Great class with a great professor!
I HAD BREKUS FOR SOCIOLOGY 1200 HE WAS AMAZING I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO READ THE BOOK AND I ENDED WITH AN A- SO THAT'S PRETTY MUCH ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. PLUS THE GUY IS FUNNY AS HELL
Great Professor! Kept class interesting the whole time. Very funny guy! Highly recommend taking any of his classes!
He's such a great professor!! Really easy class, you dont even have to read. I recommend taking any of his classes, he's so adorable :) !
Professor Brekhus is a wonderful and funny guy. He likes to use extremely funny examples to keep the class interesting. This class is also extremely fair and should be an easy A if you attend class and pay attention to the lectures. Though I did do most of the readings, I would say they are not necessary. Most of what you read he goes over.
Brekhus is my dude....point blank. Such a nice guy who cares about his students. It wasn't the easiest class I've ever taken but it's fair. Take this class and you'll enjoy a professor that cares about you...unlike most people in that profession these days.
Great teacher. Prepare for a lot of writing assignments and lots of reading. If you don't do it your screwed you will be in left field. The class is very interesting. Just keep up with the work load and you will get for sure an A. I would highly recommend taking this class.
An amazing professor that will help you and give you some incredible worldly knowledge. He manages to stay politically neutral despite the ease of straying to one side or the other. BEWARE! You may die of laughter before the end of the semester!
Professor Brekhus is extremely nice and intelligent. He obviously loves sociology and teaching. The exams aren't very hard, and the study guides he gives out before each exam tell you exactly what you need to know. Sometimes it helps to do the readings for clarification, but I wouldn't say it's necessary. This is a great class to take.
Awesome teacher. Leactures were extremely interesting. I have never laughed so much in one class before! The class was in Engineering West and it was definitly worth the walk.
I recommend ANY class with this guy. He is hilarious, and really good at his job. It's obvious he loves to teach and his enthusiasm really makes this class worth it. And I've never taken an exam with more jokes sprinkled into the questions. You'll love him.
I took his Self&Society Soc. class and I really enjoyed it. He's truly a GREAT teacher. There is a LOT of reading in his class but if you do the reading&go to lecture he reiterates what you need to know. His tests are incredibly straight-forward. If you come to class&do the reading you'll make an A+ easily. He's also incredibly funny and quirky.
Favorite professor thus far at Mizzou. Very enthusiastic, witty, and quirky; I've never laughed so much in one class. Tests are very straightforward and easy; even include jokes. Takes attendance, gives 3 free absences. Class readings aren't really necessary if you take notes. Exam review sheets give you all necessary info. You'll love him/class.
I'm an Economics major and yet this Sociology professor is my favorite teacher I have ever had at the University. I love him. So much. Best teacher ever. He is hilarious. Pretty much gives you an A (obvious answers - an example being one where you just pick the one that insults KU) but somehow you end up paying attention and learning anyways.
Great lectures for the most part. Good at working in humor to keep interest. Explains concepts through several examples so its easy to understand. Make sure you do the reading. The tests cover both reading and lecture so know your material.
Best professor I have ever had. I would take another one of his classes in a heartbeat. He really pulls you into what he is saying while always adding humor. You will never catch this guy without a mountain dew. He is such a character and a fantastic teacher. He explains concepts very clearly and his tests are fairly easy. Strongly recommended.
Dr. Brekhus is devoted to the subject and gets really excited in class. Super fun professor to have, enjoy!
Takes attendance. Very entertaining and interesting lectures. No homework, just three tests. Very friendly and helpful
Awesome profession, amazing to watch and great to learn from!
This is hands down the best teacher Ive ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and wants the best for them. He is always available to help and ask questions. Take this class
Dr. Brekhus is GREAT teacher. He is very knowledgeable about his stuff and he makes his lectures interesting to listen to. He is also really FUNNY and NICE. I definitely recommend this class. Advice: If you read the articles you can miss class, if you don't, go to class...
AMAZING professor. So funny and class was fairly easy. Would love to have him for another class.
LOVED this professor! He's hilarious and keeps lectures interesting. If you do the readings and go to class you will definitely get an A.
Wayne is an awesome guy. His lectures are fun to listen to and he is always willing to meet to help you better understand something. One of the nicest and most understanding professors I have ever had at Mizzou. I took SOC1000 with him as well as SOC3300 (Queer Theories) and SOC2300 (Me&Society). All great classes & received good grades.
Very descriptive teacher that comes up with many stories. He drinks a lot of soda (usually mellow yellow) and keeps trying to drink it even when there is none left
The lectures and the assigned readings greatly overlap, making lectures often feel long if you do the assigned reading. However, the professor is great and his jokes are pretty funny. Minimal note taking required. His tests are not incredibly hard.
His lectures are always entertaining and he uses goodmemorable examples to illustrate ideas found in the reading. The class is easy if you do the assigned work and show up for lectures, the tests aren't hard.
Brehkus is hilarious and keeps the class interested. If you come to lectures, you'll rarely have to read the books. Do the study guides, they are extremely helpful for the tests.
He is a wonderful teacher and very understanding and caring. One of my favorite professors ever.
Wayne Mellow Yellow Brekhus has been my favorite professor for my gen eds. Do the reading and go to class and you should get a good letter grade no problem.
Definitely recommend taking this class with Brekhus!!!! As long as you come to class and somewhat pay attention, tests will be a breeze. I barely ever read the books but paid attention in class and I got A's on every test. He's super funny and always keeps the class laughing.
He's a pretty good professor. His lectures are very, very long and he pretty much only talks about exactly what we read, so sometimes the lectures feel pointless. I never really know what to take notes on in lectures since he pretty much only gives examples of the topics instead of the topic itself. Other than that, he's quite the character.
Takes attendance, but lets you skip up to 4 classes. Attendance is pretty much mandatory, but if you listen to the lectures, you don't need to do the readings. You'll want to listen anyways, since Brekhus is hilarious. Would absolutely have him as a professor again in the future. Only three tests, and doing the study guides before makes them easy.
Brekhus is the man, his lectures can be boring at times but he's hilarious and makes it fun. He's very enthusiastic and gets excited when his students do well. Show up to class and take the notes he writes on the board, and you're golden.
This was my first sociology class ever and I loved it! Wayne is a beloved professor at MU. He really enjoys teaching, and you can tell by his lectures. Some lectures were a little long, but he got his point across. The content is very easy and the exams are easier. He goes over the study guides with you in class before exams.
Wayne is a great teacher. He tells jokes, shows movies, and tries to make the material relatable. Tells you the material for tests in lectures, so you shouldn't fail if you come and take notes. Exams are short answer and short essay but not hard if you go to class. It's writing intensive so there's a 15pg term paper, but it's very do-able.
Brekhus is the kind of professor who stands up in the front and talks & talks- sometimes it's hard to pay attention, but if you don't feel like reading the books, you have to make some sort of effort in in-class note taking. He goes over the study guides in class and even gives the class answers to a few questions, so be sure to have a pen in hand.
Wayne is the best. He really makes college do-able. I loved going to his class. I would always laugh. The entire class showed up every day just to get a dose of Wayne. People who weren't in his class would show up to his lectures. If you take his class, you will not regret it at all.
Lots of reading. It's very easy to skip class, or show up and not pay attention. As long as you read and pay some attention, it's easy.
His lectures are really funny and he makes the material as relatable as possible. When you're in class you almost feel like your having a conversation with him. Attendance is mandatory (5 free days), and I suggest you go if you didn't get the books because he goes over most of it in class. Tests make sure you know the material but are funny.
He assigns a fair amount of reading but he explains and summarizes the readings each day so its not the most necessary.
I love him! He is so funny during lecture and talks/explains exactly what the reading assignment was, so you can choose to do both or one or the other. Attendance isn't mandatory for the sake that you can have a classmate sign you in whenever you can't go/don't want to. Exams are 30 questions multiple choice. Will be taking another class of his!
My man Wayne is my favorite professor this semester. You don't need to read for the class because he thoroughly explains all of the readings in lecture. I look forward to his class every Tuesday and Thursday because of all the laughs he causes. He is hilarious, and is often not even trying to be.
Great professor! He was intelligent in lectures and got me interested in sociology. Would definitely recommend
Great professor, need I say more?
He is great! This class is super easy and actually pretty interesting! I suggest going to class because he explains all the readings so you don't necessarily have to do them. As long as you try in the essays, he gives good grades! He's super easy to talk to and really funny. You'll do great in this class as long as you do what he asks. Easy A!
Very knowledgeable. Not the most interesting lecturer though. He tends to speak slowly with a lot of pauses which bothers me personally. He has a good sense of humor just poor comedic timing so I always felt slightly annoyed during lectures, but the class isn't too hard because all the tests are multiple choice.
Literally this man was my favorite professor Ive had at Mizzou. If you have the chance to take sociology with him, do it. He is hilarious. I had a separate page of notes full of just weird quotes from him. 11/10
Very logical and the reason i decided to minor in sociology!
A little crazy, especially about Mountain Dew in an early class. Check him out on youtube if you want to have a good laugh. Tries to be funny but comedic timing and delivery. Knows his stuff (wrote one of the books for class) Overall he sets you up to pass even if he can go on and on.
Brekhus is the funniest professor I have ever had. His lectures always kept me interested because of his passion and his humor. Though he "assigns" a lot of reading in the syllabus, he explains every reading in class/lecture, so you never really have to read. His tests are just like the study guides, & if you show up to class the class is an easy A
Brekhus is HILARIOUS. I didn't mind going to class at 9am because I looked forward to hearing him speak. The material isn't very challenging, and he explains all the readings in lecture, so I didn't have to do a lot outside of class for an A. 10/10 would recommend.
I really liked him as a professor because he's an awkward funny which made it bearable. Most of the lectures are pretty boring in general. You can either go to class and not read and get an A or not go to class and do all the reading and get an A. Everything on the review is on the tests.
He is a great professor and taught me a lot about the world and myself.
Professor Brekhus is a very funny little man with a light Northern accent who also doubles as a wonderful teacher. He explains big-picture ideas with simpler examples and I enjoyed his course so much I'm picking up sociology as a minor. As long as you attend the majority of lectures you should be fine.
There's a lot of readings but as long as you show up you shouldn't have to read them. His tests were easy for the most part but some questions made you think and multiple answers made sense to be right. You only get graded for a few things so if you bomb the test there's nothing to really help you. Lectures could be long and boring but he's funny.
Smart, Knowledgeable, and passionate about sociology. Lots of reading, but he goes over it, so show up to class, and you don't have to read. Graded on 3 tests, but he gives out study guides for each test and goes over the answers in class. If you know the study guide material, the test is super easy and straight forward. Attending class Easy A
Wayne was hilarious, and he made his lectures entertaining. There are only 3 tests. His tests were difficult for me, but easy to others. I recommend going to his office hours before a test. He will give you Q&As. He rounded my final grade up, since I went to his office hours. Altogether, an interesting class.
He is a super funny guy who loves mountain dew. He talks and talks but his humor and personality make up for it. Tests are somewhat easy, make sure you do the homework and go to class for easy points.
Super funny and passionate dude who makes the classes interesting. I had him on an internet class and he always loves to show off his cats. Zoom attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are incredibly helpful and he posts them on Canvas after. If you pay attention and do the readings it's a solid A+, & his review sessions are incredibly helpful.
I loved the course because of him. Such a great person who cares about the wellbeing of his students, super funny as well! I honestly didn't read any of the books/textbook but got an A+ bc I showed up to every class. He throughly explains each concept and basically gives you the answers to tests in his review sessions. Interesting topics as well :)
I loved Brekhus!!! He made class interesting and fun, even online. He is one of the few professors i've had that seemed like he actually cared about his students. I def recommend taking his class. Pay attention to lecture and do your homework and you'll get an A.
The only 3 grades you will see in the grading book is your exams. Its so stupid and this is the worst teacher by far that I have ever had. At least create more assignments and dont be lazy so the exams arent 100% of your grade.
You dont even need to show up to class to pass. Just read the notes he posts on Canvas and you can get an A on every exam. I highly recommend this class for anyone looking for something easy with little commitment needed for a good grade.
Dr. Brekhus was a pretty bland professor. I could tell he knew his material well, because he never had PowerPoints, instead opting for writing keywords up on the board and talking away for all of the class. His tests were a joke, partly because the answers were half of the time literal jokes. Less than 30 people would show up out of a class of 350.
Super easy and relaxed class. He's a really fun and caring guy who has a passion for sociology. The 3 exams were really easy as long as you went through the notes beforehand. Definitely not a class you have to show up to. I recommend going to class the day before the test because he'll give some answers out and go through the study guide.
Brekhus was a great professor! He posts the notes for each chapter online before you start discussing it. Attendance is not mandatory, and lectures are sometimes pretty boring. He puts out a study guide before each test and goes over it in class. The tests are the only thing you get graded on so as long as you know the study guide, you'll be fine.
He only gives the online discussion post grades and then exams. If you get awful grades on both, you won't pass. He'll make you buy his books at the beginning of the year, you do not have to. I never read them one time. Waste of money. His exams follow a study guide, but I got Ds and Cs on his tests. Most boring lectures, but funny person.
He is very kind, and honestly tries to make his lectures entertaining, but to me his voice seemed monotone and made it easy to zone out to, making me end up skipping class a lot. If you take his course I highly recommend going to lectures, and if you don't: do the reading! Most of your grade revolves around exams, which range in difficulty.
I liked him.
I couldn't listen to him talk because he was so monotone and boring.
Lectures are a bit repetitive, but he does try to make them fun. Attendance is not mandatory as long as you do the reading, and you probably won't have to do the reading if you go to lecture. Exams are all multiple choice and pretty common sense. Just don't forget to do weekly discussion posts and it's an easy A.
Dr. Brekhus is such a funny guy. His lectures are funny and full of real-life examples that keep you engaged. His word choice in his jokes is unmatched by most professors on campus. I laugh every time he is teaching. There is some reading but it is all very interesting.
I love Brekhus! Keeps lectures interesting and funny. Tests are just like the reviews and he goes over the review very explicitly. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't survive if you don't show up.
There were 3 tests and 12 5-point assignments so you have to do well on every test to do well in the class. There is ~100 pages of reading a week but I never did any of it and I did well. If you go to his review session and read over the notes you will be fine for the tests. He is very funny in his lectures but they are Boring. Great guy.
There are only three tests and weekly homework assignments worth minimal points, so you have to do good on the tests. Tests aren't very difficult and the review sheet covers all the info. He is absolutely hilarious, but his lectures drone on and on and get boring. Overall a funny and passionate guy and I would take again.
Grading set up is AWFUL. I got a 100% on every assignment. Failed one test and ended with a 78. He is very nice and funny but not a good speaker. he truly cares about his students though.
Brekhus is a great guy but his lectures can be boring. The readings he assigned were very interesting and informative. Your grade is mostly just three tests, but they are very easy if you show up to the review section and fill out the review sheet along with him. I showed up to nearly every class but you could easily pass without attending.
This guy was so funny. He really cares about his students and everyone loves him. his class has no hw pretty much but also means you need to do good on tests if u want a solid grade. they are not too bad but still need to study. Yes, sometimes the lectures were boring but at least once a lecture he would say something out of pocket and made them fun
Professor Brekhus is funny, but the only grades are 3 tests and weekly 5 point assignments. If you do not do well on the first test, you are kind of screwed with your semester grade.
He was a chill dude
Lots and lots of reading and you're pretty much screwed if you fail the first test because hw is barely worth anything and his lecture's are boring at most times -- although the subjects are interesting. He does have a genuine passion for sociology but he makes it so difficult to get a good grade if you didn't do as well on the first test.
Class was pretty easy. It's true that you have to do well on your 3 exams in order to get a good grade in the course. Besides the exams theres one discussion post due each week. Going to lecture isn't mandatory but I highly recommend going to the review session before the exams, it basically covers everything you'll need to know.
The whole class was based on 3 exam grades and a few 5 point-pack pack questions due every week. I would say this class was hard, but Brekhus was one of the most caring professors I have had so far. He knew I cared about my grade, and helped me to raise my grade at the end of the semester.
Dr. Brekhus was incredibly funny, and his lectures were always engaging. That being said, it is a somewhat difficult class. You need to do well on the tests; otherwise, you will fail. But he does want to help people with their grades; just talk to him!
Brekhus is really nice and funny. Good guy!! Class is only graded on 3 exams-while he does do in class review, the tests are somewhat difficult and the wording is odd. Packbacks due every week and worth 5 points, but do not really do anything to your grade. Tests are really important!!
Brekhus is a funny and engaging professor, though the class can be challenging. Focus on the exams and use resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook to prepare. He's willing to help if you communicate with him.
Professor Brekhus Sociology 1000 course is an overall very fun course. The majority of your grade will be based on 3 quizzes, but the study guide he gives + quizlet resources means you will always get an A if you study. Professor Brekhus is very animated and passionate and his lectures are very fun if you choose to go.
He is overall a wonderful professor. However, study for the tests and keep up with the topics! homework isn't really worth anything and you rarely have in class assignments. but overall it has interesting topics in the class and the packbacks are due every Thursday and are not put into canvas as assignments so check them regularly!
he was super cool and took a humorous approach to sociology.
I love this professor!!
He is a super funny guy, but I found it hard to pay attention during the lectures. Lectures are recorded, and the course is super test-heavy. overall just do the work and study hard for the tests.
Dr Brekhus is a very silly guy. His lectures are unforgettable because of how engaging he is, and you can really tell how passionate he is about sociology. I definitely recommend Soc 1000 with him since he is an easy grader. His tests are not complex at all, I never read the material I just showed up to class and took notes and really listened.
Your grade is based off three exams and the final with very little else being graded, if you don't do well on one of the exams your grade is done. Says "um" after every single sentence and the lectures get hard to listen to when you notice just how many times he says um. Very passionate about the topic but can get boring and hard to pay attention.
This class was based primarily off tests. You had 3 tests which were all 20% of your grade. There is only a few assignments so if you do bad on the tests, you will fail. He doesn't answer emails and his lectures are all over the place, he just goes off topic. Good news is attendance isn't mandatory!
