I would go out of my way to take the class with him. He is charismatic enough and a really good teacher. If he catches you talking in class he will ask you to answer a question.
I had Wayne for both Math 1119 and STAT 2606. He makes math not that hard to understand and gives lots of examples during the class. That makes easier to understand the concepts and really helpful to pass the exams.
If you put in the effort, Professor Wayne will have absolutely no trouble helping you. He is the best teacher I've ever had, better than the teachers I had in high school. I would definitely recommend him because he made math a lot easier to understand and he was hilarious. Only tough when he needed to be.
Wayne, Dr. Horn, Mr. Horn... is the man. Best teacher around Carleton, and makes sure his students get the best learning. Very clear, and goes over and above expectations when it comes to making sure students understand what they are learning.
If you are going to take stats and having professor Wayne is one of your options, take the class with him. For me stats was hard because of how much you have to change your wy of thinking, but his slides and the assignments are very well developed. The slides are "crystal clear" and he cannot explain the content any better. Assignments prepare you.
I hated math up until my first lecture with Prof. Horn. Do yourself a favour and take one of his classes, you will never regret it. He's an incredible instructor who cares enough about his students to call them out in class when they're being disruptive, and follow up on your concerns to ensure you're in the best learning environment possible.
he makes you actually like and enjoy math. really there for the students and actually wants to see them excel and get good grades. he also makes his lectures enjoyable.
Probably one of the best profs i've ever had. He slows down for tricky class material and stresses what is important. He doesn't try to fool his students with exams. Assignments can be challenging, but he's always willing to help along the way. He once said "I'd rather challenge you on an assignment than an exam." He's also pretty hot
He is a really nice guy and tries to make the class interesting. If you don't do the work, you won't pass. He will call you out if you aren't paying attention, but he just wants you to learn better.
I never used to like math and I thought this 8:30am class was going to suck. But it was actually the opposite, I loved going to lectures. Wayne is definitely the best math teacher I've had. Very clear, easily understandable, and just all around nice guy. He'll always there to help and cares about all his students.
A fantastic professor who wants every student to do well. You must show up and put in the work to get through the course -- do that, and an A is not hard to get. Encourages participation and very helpful humorous lighthearted (and very, very knowledgeable!). Never a dull moment with Dr. Horn. Hands down, THE MAN TO TAKE STATS WITH.
The only Professor who ACTUALLY cares for his students that i know of. Be present in class and most definitely will get excellent marks. Exciting lecture. Tests have material covered in class, clear and no second questions asked in writing them. Great help through email and office hours. Fast responder to email 100%.
Easy going, always willing to help and most of all, cares about his students. Best professor for stats.
He makes an effort to know all of his students in his lectures and is really helpful when you go to see him. He tries to make his lectures more interesting by adding jokes and comics about Stats. He also doesn't post solutions for examples online so going to lecture can be very helpful.
I like the balance professor Horn keeps between being serious and giving us a little bit of fun. It encourages to learn the material and makes the whole learning process much easier. Also, his effort into memorizing names of his students is much appreciated. The discipline however might be somewhat strict but personally I don't mind it
Always enthusiastic, always willing to answer questions, always answers emails right away, always awesome.
Best teacher I've ever had, hands down. He is clear when giving lectures and is extremely helpful to students that ask for help. TAKE HIS CLASS, you wont regret it. He is able to explain all mathematical procedures in a way which makes it extremely easy to understand and do well in the class. Also seems to care A LOT about his students.
Had a great time in Wayne's class this semester, really felt he cared about his students and sincerely want to help you. A side note, looks a lot like Christian Bale from Christopher Nolan's Batman. I'm fairly certain he moonlights as a masked crime fighter. Definitely trained with Liam Neeson
Wow, what an amazing professor Wayne is. I highly recommend him for any course that he teaches. He is an excellent teacher who possesses all of the qualities we all want in a teacher: Passionate, caring, knowledgeable, and dedicated in seeing his students succeed.
Amazing prof. He honestly wants each and every single one of his students to do their very best, and makes it clear. His assignments and tests are fair. AMAZING explanations of concepts. Oh, he's also hilarious. Definitely the best prof I've had so far in university. Would definitely take a class with him again!
I recommend him.
Fantastic professor
He's a very nice guy. His lectures worth a lot as you will no longer need to read your textbook and you will absolutely learn a lot from him. The tests are fair enough if you take his class seriously it's just that if you made even few mistakes it will cost a lot because his tests are pretty short and always held in tutorials.
Wayne is a really clear and effective teacher and actually cares. If you go to class you should have no problems learning the material and passing. If you ask for help he is happy to explain until you understand 100%. Word of warning do practice problems! He does make everything seem easier than it is until you try yourself!
Go to class and take good notes, do the assignments, review the content regularly and you will do very well in Wayne's course. He is a really good prof and cares a lot to see his students do well.
If you show up, and show him respect, he will have no problem working with you.
BEST STATS PROF, NO LIE. Just show up to class and take notes, he genuinely cares about his students and his tests and assignments are very straightforward.
Best teacher at carleton hands down.
Dr. Horn is an amazing professor, you're lucky if you get him. He's very clear and very engaging.
Great for helping students grasp the material and explaining concepts. can be a little intimidating for first and second year students to ask questions. Suggest going to office hours with specific questions rather than just "I don't get it". Wayne lays out the course very well and ties each lecture together nicely.
Keen students will appreciate Wayne Horns charisma and ability to keep the classroom in order. You will do well if you do as he says and ask him specific questions. He excels at parting his knowledge and goes to great lengths to do so. Be disciplined and follow his rules (including his request to refrain from posting his work online)
He is Handsome
He is very strict and do not like anyone pay no attention in his lecture. He is very good at delivering knowledge. If you want to receive high grade, please attend to every class and answer his question, do as he said.
Class is great. Assignments are tough and minitab sucks. Exams are fair.
Amazing professor! His classes are hilarious and he's extremely helpful. Keep up with the class notes and do all his practice problems and the course will be a breeze! Highly recommend him!
He moves at a very good speed, making sure everyone understands every concept thoroughly. If you attend the lectures and spend a little of your own time, MATH 1119 with Wayne Horn is possibly the best course you can take for First year Commerce. At least for me it was.
By far the best prof I've had at Carleton.
Greatest Prof!
How can this be anything other than straight 5's? If you're in business and looking to take statistics, this is the professor to do it with. Great lectures, quality content, and Wayne has the ability to maintain the attentiveness of students with his unique teaching methods and periodic comic relief. Statistics CAN be fun! :)
Overall the best professor I have had at Carleton University by far.
Amazing professor, explains everything very clearly and makes waking up for 8:30am math classes worth it!
Great professor!! very clear, intelligent & helpful. He covers a lot in his lectures, so its important to take notes and your good grade is guaranteed.
If you're there and willing to learn, then this will be the easiest class you will ever take because he makes things very clear and won't stop until everyone understands everything. I really recommend going to him if you have problems throughout the course even if he isn't your professor because he is amazing at explaining every detail.
I am Brutal in Math, but with his guidance was able to understand the concepts and he actually made numbers fun. Take his classes if you want to succeed because he cares about students and is an overall great guy.
This teacher, was BY FAR the best professor I have ever had at Carleton University. He is so helpful, great at teaching, and overall just cares to see everyone get an A, it isn't enough to just pass. E-mail him, go to class, ask questions, go to office hours, and just enjoy the class!
One word describes professor Horn "AMAAZZZINNNNGGG". If Dr Horn taught every class school would no longer be boring. This man really knows how to teach and cares for the success of his students. He made one of the more boring courses very entertaining and really knew the material he was teaching. Do not skip this class unless you want to fail.
Wayne Horn is a must have professor for Statistics. No other professor comes close to his helpfulness towards always being there for his students. Try to make the effort to get to know him as he is a very genuinely nice guy to get to know. His assignments are well detailed as he provides clear instructions. He prepares you well for test and exams.
If you have the chance to sign up for Wayne Horn's class for Stats, do it ASAP. He is an amazing professor that always looks out for the students' wellbeing. He always prepares you well for assignments and tests with his great examples in his class. Always attend his classes as he will only go through examples during that time.
Amazing professor, would not skip this one for the world. Hands down best professor at Carleton, and I pity the fool that missed the opportunity to have him.
Amazing prof, probably one of the best at Carleton! He truly loves what he does and if you reach out to him he will help you as much as possible. Assignments can be long but they are really good to prepare for tests. His classes are funny and he tries to make it interesting. It's stats so expect to study, but he is great! Plus: he learns your name
Wayne Horn is a great professor! He offers help proactively, makes himself clear in class and makes sure everyone understands. All you need to do is to be attentive. For MATH 1119, the tests are not difficult but do not expect the same with the final exam. Go to his office hours - he's a very good professor! 1010 would take again
Really helpful proff. Practice examples from the slides and you can ace the course.
Absolutely amazing professor, always there for an extra hand and very fair marker. Go to class and its an automatic good grade. He is clear and interesting and actually cares about teaching. He knows his class and is not scared to call anyone out if needed.
The best prof you will have at Carleton. Change the rest of your schedule to get him, especially for STATS.
Honestly, if you have the chance to take a course with Wayne, do it! He's super clear in class, gives good examples (that you should copy down because that's pretty much your test right there), and gives reasonable assignments. He makes the effort to learn everyone's name, and is very personable.
if you ever get the chance to take a class with him then I would do it, as long as you go to class and pay attention then you will probably get a 90. he hates it when people waste his time, so when you do go to class dont get caught looking at your phone or talking because I got in trouble for talking, but honestly one of the best teachers ever.
He loves his math. I would DEFINITELY take him again.
He made it so easy to understand the material, so good at explaining different concepts and he gives a lot of examples. I could just go over the material for a few hours before a test and do well because I grasped most of it in class. He tries to learn everyone's name in the class, even with 150 students. Always willing to help!! Amazing prof!
Imagine a perfect prof. He's that prof that makes you want to participate and ask questions. He has a great and respectful sense of humor that doesnt even make you feel like its a class! And he is really straight-forward with those who talk n distract us. (lets be honest. we want our profs to do that on the inside). Best prof I've had in my life.
One of the best profs I've ever had. He's funny, and really does care about the students success. His videos are easy to understand and are engaging.
this is my first time taking an online course and its pretty good. videos have good examples and he answers my email questions super fast.
Great prof, very knowledgeable and engaging, likes to get to know his students. Material takes a lot of practice but you're given more than enough material to help prepare for midterm/final. He wants his students to succeed, if you show up everyday, participate, and ask for help, you'll do just fine. Also, never opened the textbook.
BEST PROFEFFOR EVER!!!!!!ALWAYS THERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS
Had the pleasure of taking his online class. Along with Dr. Farrell, he did a wonderful job of explaining statistics in a fun and concise manner. I would gladly take another class of his.
nice and hot guy
Prof horn was the best prof I've had at Carleton. He really is there for you any questions you have he is ready to help. The course itself is dry but prof horn really makes all the material clear and concise. I'd recommend anyone to take a class with prof horn he is just the best
Wayne is one of those professors that makes you want to learn because he enjoys teaching so much. His class is dynamic, yet when people starts talking he knows how to reel back the conversation back to business. Great and charismatic professor. (PS: Make sure you do your homework, though!!)
Clearly emphasizes what you need to know. Makes learning easy and fun, and is always there to help. His videos/slides are precise and to the point. Best prof I've had at carleton; would choose him anytime I can.
Wayne has this extraordinary teaching method that makes you want to stay engaged in his class. He gives lots of respect to his students, especially if you participate during class. He makes you have to earn that A+ but it's an enjoyable ride all the way through. Do yourself a big favor and don't miss the opportunity to have him as your professor.
Super helpful. Very willing to help. Always gets back to emails and is super approachable. 10/10. 5/5. Whatever. I wanted an A+ in the course and he was there to help me make sure I got it
One of the best prof in Carleton University. Quick response to emails. Helpful slides and engaging lectures and amazing slides. I am looking forward to take another class with him. Also helps you during his office hours when you are not able to make it to class because of a valid reason. I would recommend anyone to take his classes.
Wayne Horn is really throughly explain the materials that he teaches in class. I have him for MATH1119 and STAT2607. The best thing to do in his class is pay attention, and cell phone away. Have questions, ask him. Very fast at replying email. He is strict, but very fair, and also easy-going too. Def recommend! PS. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST TO PASS!
This is a best class so far I have ever taking in university i have been out of high school since 2010 not done any math but Prof. Wayne makes it so easy and understanding that you feel comfortable with material again , he will be there for help he goes beyond to make sure his student understand the material and going to do their best .
I took this course when it was being taught by both Professor Horn and Professor Farrell. These two professors are the absolute best and if you ever get the chance to take a course with either of them, TAKE IT! These professors put so much work into their craft and really care for their students. They will do everything in their power to help you.
Best university prof I have ever had. He will bend over backwards to ensure that his students get the most out of his class. I would recommend all students take his class!
Amazing prof but his grading is so tough. In my midterm, my friend and I lost points because we didn't put the answer exactly as his. Take his classes, he is a good one but be ready to memorize answers.
Best prof I've ever had. Strict but fair. Put in the work and it's an easy B.
Best professor ever. Highly recommend taking his classes if you can! Makes content very easy to understand and cares about his students learning.
Awesome guy, makes stats a lot easier to understand. Makes it clear from the beginning what he expects of you, it's very doable. Super nice and funny. Very helpful through email and has plenty of office hours. 10/10 would recommend.
SUCH a great teacher. He's funny and is not afraid to call people out who are talking and/or on their phones. He teaches as if you have never taken math and makes sure everyone knows what they're doing. His practice tests and tutorials are VERY helpful for the actual tests. If you participate in class he can raise your grade a letter grade up!
Prof. Horn is an instructor who really understands. He makes every second you spend watching his lectures worth your time and keeps you in a positive mood with his sense of humour. He sets you up for success as long as you do your part as a student and work hard. It's easy to see why he is highly respected and recommended by Carleton students.
Wayne is a great prof! His slides are really informative and I personally really like his teaching style. He makes the course very interesting and relatable for easier understanding. He cares for students and provides additional help through office hours and by helping out on questions through email. 10/10 would recommend!
Great Prof, his lectures are great he goes through all of the material and how to do questions that will appear on tests. Also provides practice tests that are similar to the test. Go to class, figure out how to do the questions and do the textbook questions to prepare for tests.
Wayne is the best prof I've had a Carleton yet. He wants all his students to do well. I'd rearrange my whole schedule just to be in his section. Go to class, do the homework and you will ace the course. He answers his email 24/7 and is super friendly. He makes time for all his students. Fair course load. Definitely recommend his class.
Wow ! where do I start. Wayne is a great prof hes understanding not boring and will help you whenever you need it. I was in his math 1119A class and he leads the lectures so well that if you go to class and do his sample tests you wont need to do textbook questions and the course will be a breeze. Responds to emails and cares about your sucess
Wayne being an amazing prof is an understatemt. To future students, you will have no troubles getting an A+ in this class if you show up to class and do practice examples and provided sample tests. He truly cares about your success through reliable email response times which makes him unrivaled as an overall prof. Great work Wayne!
Wayne Horn is an amazing professor! Not only is he a wonderful teacher, but he also genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are fantastic and definitely worth going to - both from an academic and entertainment perspective. 12/10 highly recommended professor!!
Professor Wayne is so funny!! Makes you wake up in the morning with his friendly jokes. He is an amazing professor.
He's an amazing professor that really cares about his students. If you show up and pay attention there's no way you'll fail the course. He makes you pay attention and makes you appreciate being in the class. He also makes it fun environment to learn in.
The best professor ever! Super helpful! As long as you attend his amazing lectures and do all homework, you can do well on this course!
I was nervous about taking this class online but I really enjoyed it. The lecture videos are well informative and provides lots of examples reflecting the content just learnt. I also love the fact that you can pause the videos to take notes. As long as you put in the effort to complete the weekly videos and exercises, you will succeed.
No surprises at all folks. The amount of effort is the grade you receive with professor horn. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass and ace the class with flying colours. If you do bad, no excuses and nobody to blame but yourself. Like the saying goes: you simply cant corn the horn; no you can not.
Dr. Wayne Horn is a great Professor. Provided that you do your part and meet your obligations when it comes to studying, he will have you prepared 100% for either the midterm or the final. His online courses are great and the videos he makes are clear and concise. As long as you do the videos and the follow up questions, it is hard to not get an A.
By far the best University Professor I've had. It is clear that he wants all his students to succeed and does an exceptional job of simplifying the course material. Very helpful, responds to e-mails very quickly and provides with lots of practice questions in the homework that well prepare you for the midterm and final.
My Favourite class of the semester by far. Amazing prof who really cared about how his students were doing. Also he puts up practice tests and solutions which were extremely helpful.
Best prof I've ever had, helpful tutorial assignments, and he made concepts clear and easy to understand. Don't miss out on the chance to have him as a prof !
Knows what he's doing! If you get him for any course, you're really lucky.
Prob the best teacher i had during my first semester very clear and concise with the material. Always responds to questions and encourages you to ask as many question to help your understanding. His test also very straight forward and similar to textbook / in class problems.
Wayne Horn is the best!! I took this class online which was great for me and I actually enjoyed watching his videos. He makes bad jokes but I forgive him, and I still laugh because they're so bad they're good. Best stats prof at the school
I have had the pleasure of having Wayne Horn as my professor for three semesters. I always say I would rather take a course with Wayne Horn or not take it at all. Wayne Horn cares about his students, he wants us all to pass. He takes his time to make sure everyone is on board and you can always make appointments with him. He knows how to explain
I took this class online and it was taught by two teachers, Wayne Horn being one of them. The videos were great at explaining the concepts. It can be very easy to put off watching the videos and doing the practice problems and fall behind, especially if they don't give assignments, but it is not a course you want to try and cram for.
Great prof! Definitely cares about his students.
I would never take a math/stats course without Wayne Horn. Probably the best prof I have ever had.
The best teacher I've ever had, really cares about each students and remembers everyone's name. Prof Horn managed to make a dull subject like Linear Algebra super interesting. Forever my favourite
Wayne is the best prof/teacher I've ever had. He cares about his students and truly wants to see them succeed. Like any math course, going to class and doing practice problems is important. Lectures are enjoyable and time passes by quickly. Wayne knows the material and explains it very well. Good luck!
Wayne's lectures are hilarious and they make it easy to listen in (I am in the online section of this class). His slides are clear and easy to follow. An example is always provided. He responds to e-mails and questions very quickly. All in all a great professor.
I'm in my last year and I have so far only had 2 profs who really stand out - Wayne is one of them. Always willing to help and is great at making class material interesting and easy to understand. I'm a business major and I decided to pursue a minor in Statistics just because of his classes. 10/10 would recommend.
Best professor forever. I really like his class!!
Wayne goes out of his way to make his class interesting . You never need to feel stupid or embarrassed asking a question because he is always patient and actually wants to help. Just don't go on your phone during class and you'll be good.
Great Professor. Cares about your learning and makes lectures actually enjoyable. Very easy to understand and straight forward. Going to class is highly suggested if you want to do well.
I love when he writes on the board.
Awesome teacher. Explains material very well and clearly. Puts a lot of effort in his lectures.
Great lecturer that makes an effort to engage students and explain the theory in layman's terms. Exams and tests are fair, with questions being very similar to those covered in class and the homework.
Absolutely amazing prof. Had him for STATS and did great because he provides so many excellent examples.
Amazing prof and attendance to his lectures are mandatory for success in this course, plus, lectures are just legendary. He is also always available and willing to take questions on for extra help during his weekly office hours, Monday to Friday, for anyone that needs it. Definitely helped me succeed in the course. 10/10 would recommend for 2607!
If you take the online section with him, you will find that he has really dry humor. I have never laughed so much, or even for that matter, laughed when learning class material. He is a legend.
Why didn't I take all the math courses with him???!!!
The best math prof ever, helps and answers emails very quickly, lectures very interesting and fun, Tests are fair and I highly recommend him for all Math and stats courses.
Dr. Horn is a great prof. He is very clear in his teaching and goes out of his way to ensure the concepts are well understood by everyone. He is quick to respond to emails and provide extra help, judgement free, if needed. He gives wonderful sample tests which provide you with all the resources needed to succeed. His Powerpoints are great too.
Go to class, it will 100% be worth your time. You will learn so much from his teaching. Hes a prof that cares about his students and you will notice this in his teaching.
Very good prof, probably the most fair course you're gonna take in first year. You put in effort (which isn't much, go to class, do a bit of the homework you don't fully understand from class, do the practice tests) and you will get rewarded. Very enjoyable class.
The course outline is very detailed so youll know what exactly youre covering each week. Some videos will need to be sped up to 1.25 or 1.50 so that it doesnt feel like a drag. Overall, he delivers to material very well and replies to emails within 24 hours with detailed explanations.
Lays out the material in a clear and straightforward manner and really easy to listen to. A rare thing to find in profs at CU.
10/10 Wayne Horn. I loved this class because of the interaction with students, openness to questions, and availability for one on one conversation. He made the course expectations very clear. Do all the homework and stay engaged to do well.
You're really lucky if you take a class with Wayne. He's always supportive, makes sure you have all the resources you need, answers emails clearly and quickly... He really wants you to do well, i genuinely wish other professors were like him. The course is pretty easy if you do the homework and attend lectures.
He is very organized and it is clear he cares. Great prof overall.
very passionate teacher, makes for a great course if you are ready to learn and put in the work
Wayne was easily the best prof I had at Carleton, his lectures were quick and covered the basic points needed. Midterm and final exam were straightforward. He somehow made stats fun and easy!
Great professor with solid lectures worth attending, he enjoys when students participate and makes an effort to learn your name. All the tests and exams are usually textbook questions and quite easy if you do the recommended homework questions that are assigned.
One of my favourite profs so far. He's SO GOOD! Very smart, gives great feedback, and always ready to help if you're willing you put the work in. He's also super funny but in a weird dad kind of way. Makes stats fun!
Having never taken statistics, I was nervous but he was definitely one of the professor who made statistics enjoyable. You have to attend classes because he gives a lot of examples and if you practice, you will ace this class. He is extremely funny and approachable, so choose live classes instead of online.
A truly amazing professor, explains things very clearly and if you don't understand something you can always ask him. Posts everything online except the solutions, but even he does post the solutions, it's better to listen to him explain it in class.
excellent prof love him!
He is so amazing professor, I really like him.
Wayne Horn is by far one of the best profs Ive had. He makes linear algebra enjoyable and gives many examples to help you understand the concepts. Gives practice tests that are extremely helpful for the tests. prepares you well for all tests and final, no surprises. Lectures are not dry. Super strict on cell phones in class, he will kick you out.
really fantastic prof. makes everything so clear and easy to understand. replies to emails very quickly and is always happy to see anyone outside of the lecture. wouldn't want to take stats with anyone else!
Wayne teaches multiple math courses and he's good at teaching them all. No textbook but don't worry, there is a limitless amount of study material and practice questions. Never take the online section! Wayne cares about you and your grades but do NOT go on your phone or he will actually kick you out of his classroom. Makes stats fun and that's hard
I really appreciate for his help. He is an excellent professor. His lecture is amazing, clearly and logically.
Wayne is probably the most well rounded prof ever. He is fairly strict with his no cell phone rule, but overall it helps the students stay focused. He's not boring by any means, He brings excitement to all of his math courses. He's very engaging and is willing to help his students as much as he can. Overall an amazing Prof. 10/10 would recommend!
Wayne is a nice guy, however stats has to be one of the worst classes I've ever taken. He tries to make it fun, but since I don't like math, I didn't particularly enjoy this class. He has lots of office hours, so go or email him, he cares about your success!
Amazing prof, one of the best profs Ive had, lectures are very interesting and on point teaches you everything you need to know for the course. Very helpful and puts a lot of effort in transferring the Information to the student. Would 100% recommend him for stats 2606 2607 and linear 1119
Terrible, bad at explaining course material
Wayne is far and away the most caring and engaging professor I've ever had. It's clear that he takes a tremendous amount of pride in helping students succeed. He provides lots of practice material to show how answers will be graded on exams. The only complaint I have is that there is too much practice material so it's hard to know where to focus.
awesome prof, practice tests and office hours always, the only thing is you should always follow his rules, if he says no electronics, no electronics! :)
Probably the best prof you could ever have
Amazing prof who actually cares about his students. I wish I could have him for every class
Made algebra super easy and really cared about the students. One word of advice is make sure to show up to class because you would be lost if you didnt
Ferda prof. Best prof I had first year. Very strict on phones and laptops in class but it makes you focus and learn more. Tests are exactly what we covered in class and almost no surprises. Not very difficult either.
He is the best prof till date, make sures that you study for his tests. Follow his class, tutorials and you are good to go. Nothing from space everything is from his class notes and tutorials. BESSSSSTESSSSST
Wayne is my favourite prof so far! I loved his lectures he really made sure he explained things clearly and went into detail when needed. it's clear he loves teaching and he is so great at it! Would 100000% take a course with him again!!
Very good professor who makes the course material fun. I have had him for 3 semesters and I don't regret it. However, despite is amazing teaching style, he is probably the most passive aggressive professors i have ever met and makes him unapproachable outside of class. That being said, he really cares about his lectures and I would recommend him
Good guy. Knows his stuff and is always encouraging students to reach out if they are struggling. That being said, both the midterm and the final needed to be curved which I don't thin should happen. It was either too hard or we weren't taught it well enough (if that many people failed both).
I took Dr. Horn's online Stat 2606 and 2607 classes. Along with Dr. Farrell, they provide amazing videos for you to watch on your own time. Dr. Horn was always available for help outside of class and responds quickly to emails. The videos are quite entertaining and funny. If you take the class as a lecture, make sure you don't use technology!
HIGHLY recommend! He is an amazing professor at teaching with passions and positive energy ! The class is so interesting that you can learn a lot from the lecture, and they are almost based on the textbook. The assignments are challenging but the quizs and tests are all basic and easy-to-solve! The BEST prof that I have met in the math faculty!!!!!
Best Stats prof at Carleton by far. Prof. Horn cares for is students and has a passion for teaching stats. Assignments can be fairly tricky, but he is always available for help (via email or office hours). Test are fairly straight forward and are based on material learned (not super tricky stuff). HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend taking a class with him.
Currently studying for finals, and I had a problem that I could not figure out. When I asked him for help he insisted I send him a picture of my work. Took the time to read all of what I had worked on for the question and helped me come to the right answer. Haven't had any other professor do something like this and it really made a difference.
The Horn! Very highly recommended! Super helpful and respond frequently to everything! One just needs to output effort to do well. As long as you proceed with the material taught in class and take that into the exams, then you should do quite well! Also, the man introduced me to Suzy Q's!
Professor Horn was my favourite prof so far in uni! i had him for linear algebra and he was an amazing teacher. i really enjoyed going to class and he made me really love algebra. i wasnt so good at math in high school but if you go to class, do the homework, and study the practices problems and tutorials youll get an easy A.
Took STAT2607 with him. Yes, class is very hard (content wise), but Wayne tries his best to explain it clearly. Very accessible outside of the class, and very caring for students. I highly suggest taking courses with him, because you will actually learn stuff.
Excellent prof, his lectures are well prepared, organized. Wayne is the kind of prof who will make you work a ton but will always be there for you when you need help. Exams were hard but fair.
He had a really good way of captivating his audience. He also goes over material a second time if asked to. He loves to answer questions and help his students understand as much as possible!
Best prof I've ever. Makes sure you understand everything and doesn't hesitate to help you. His lectures are detailed and helpful.
He is the best prof I have ever had in Carleton so far. You should really take his class if you have chance, you will not regret it!
Best professor of all time.
Honestly a awesome prof, he went beyond expected with emails to the point he would ask for pictures. Mostly a day before the exam, continually monitoring his email to assist students. The only downside is that he wont give you a little boost but I understand since hes got to be fair. Overall a great prof! Take him if your taking stats.
Wayne is an great instructor. If you have questions he answers emails quickly. As well, he gives practice problems sheets which help with understanding the material. His lectures are a must. He really tries to make sure that people understand the material and has great review sessions before the midterm and final.
Wayne killed it every class! Kept our attention by asking lots of questions and calling on people by name!! Very energetic at 8:30am thanks to his Starbucks lol
He breaks down the material in a digestible manner that leaves no ambiguities. It also helps to participate in this class. It helps crystallize the material. There are no surprises on assignments or exams. Doing the suggested exercises (highly recommended) are a great way to get prepared for exams. The final is airtight, but not impossible.
Had him for the Fall 2019 Stat3503, amazing professor, great person. Respect his rules and you will be good. GO TO CLASS!!! Assignments are super helpful as well. His exams are fair if you want an A I suggest you do the problem sets.
I was extremely intimidated by taking a stats class, but Wayne kept you on track if you were willing to work for it. He explains things very well and makes the lectures interesting in any way he can. You must go to class because he walks through questions step by step in person instead of just posting them on the slides. Great prof +the cutest dog.
He is actually one of the best math proffs I had. He seems intimidating at first, but if u engage in class and put in the effort, it should go smoothly. He is fair and makes the class interesting. Clads attendance is mandatory if u wanna get full notes. He even tries to get to know his students' names. Awesome prof with one of the cutest dogs
He's an amazing teacher in that he teaches you the material extremely well and as long as you go to every class and take good notes you'll do well on his exams. I personally found him to be rude (before you ask - I never went on my phone/laptop in class) but he was also very engaging and kept the lecturings as interesting as he could.
Professor Horn is great. You must submit the assignments on time. Other than that, his lecture is quite neat and easy to follow. He is a great professor and really helpful!
This man is a Chad among Prof's he is funny, clearly educated and gives the best lectures, they are short concise and easy to understand. I implore you to take his class if you are ever so lucky. He makes Stats fun, easy and useful.
Prof Horn is amazing! He adapted to online learning, the lessons are condensed and easy to follow. He responds quickly to emails. There is a required textbook, but his lessons are so clear I didn't need it and still got an A.
Easily the best math course I've ever taken. The class made a discord, and Wayne (with permission) joined for infinite office hours - and he's always been supportive. The lectures are clear, and split in a way that makes sense, and the examples within the lectures ensured that you'd understand everything he was talking about. 11/10
Online I think he is an average prof. He is a really nice guy and always there to help but sometimes his examples don't really help with assignments. He is strict on academic integrity with school being online and that caused a lot of people to do poorly on first test, although he switched his ways for second test. Stats online sucks but he is good
TAKE PROF HORN. Pros : - Assignments/tests are super easy - VERY helpful - joins discord, interacts with students all the time - Insane memes, superb jokes - Although stats can be boring, he adds random jokes/comments throughout his lectures - A ton of other good things Cons: - None (except maybe cheating, but that's your own fault.
Great prof! Made the transition to online seamless. Relevant examples in the lectures made understanding the many topics much easier as well as assisted greatly in completing the assignments. Test questions were very relevant to course material (much appreciated). Unfortunately he loses some points for not liking beer...
He is caring and very helpful if you are stuck. Online, the stats department has sucked and become paranoid and made this course unnecessarily stressful due to prior cheating. Prof Horn is let's say, very strict on academic integrity, and rightly so. The course grading scheme reflects that with 80 percent on proctored AND sequential tests and exams.
Dr. Horn is always available and willing to help. His lectures and explanations are very easy to follow, short and interesting. His examples within lectures are the best help for the assignments. I found the assignments and suggested exercises very helpful. My experience was amazing with prof Wayne and I will definitely take classes with him again.
I genuinely enjoyed this class. When I took the class, the exam was cumulative, and there ended up being lot's and lot's of knowledge you either needed to know or know exactly where to find it in your notes. Cost me a lot of marks unfortunately because the final exam is 50%.
Professor Horn is amazing! The lectures he posted online were clear and short, and the examples after each concept were really helpful. I didn't even need to open the textbook. He was really interactive in the discord server and answered everyone's doubts without hesitation.
The guy hated getting emails. When midterm grades were released and he got a few emails about it, he sent an email basically saying figure out your own mark going into the exam you should know how to.
I took Waynes class because he came highly recommended, and stayed because Molly (his dog, not the drug) was the only thing keeping me sane. Hes very good at explaining concepts and provides detailed breakdowns of exercises that almost exactly mirror the assignment questions but, he can be a bit passive agressive so I found it hard to speak up.
Wayne is a real gem! Honestly I have never been a math person at all but Wayne really breaks down the material for you into short videos and all his in class examples are relevant and fun (especially when it involves m&ms) Anyone who bashes this prof just wants an easy A with no hard work, Uni requires effort, the bad reviews are from lazy students
I would say that he is a good professor and is good at teaching the material. However, I felt as if I was on my own while taking the course. His emails were often passive-aggressive and harsh and it deterred me from reaching out for help. Also, I do not think the work given in class prepares you for the exams, so I would be prepared for that.
His lectures are great, he's entertaining and explains the topics well. The number of topics is extensive, but everything is intertwined so there should be a moment where most things click. He can be very blunt with his emails and is strict with dates, but everything is laid out clearly. He rants in his emails about students being dumb, kinda funny
Wayne isn't a horrible professor, his lectures are fine and he offers outside opportunities to better understand the material. That being said I've found the workload and amount of material covered in STATS2606 to be cruel. I would genuinely rather be waterboarded for a month straight than take this class again, but I wouldn't place blame on Wayne
Dr. Horn is the best math teacher I've ever had and I've never even seen him in person. Most of my online classes have long boring videos but most of his videos are quick and to the point. His jokes suck but at least he tries to keep things interesting. One thing he needs to work on is not letting the whiny entitled students bother him so much.
Wayne is an amazing teacher, lectures are fun and clear, however the material and examples covered in the lectures do not prepare you for what you will be tested on. You will walk into an exam very confident about your knowledge of course material just for Wayneo to crush your spirits and grades with 3 questions
There were many times throughout the course that he came across as disrespectful in his emails. He also decided to withhold practice questions for further exams as a way to punish the class for other people's actions which made people feel even more unpared as shown in midterm (and probably final) marks.
Prof Horn is amazing & wants his students succeed. He went out of his way to help me (even on weekends!). His lectures are great & reflect exams. If you put in the work, you will be successful in this class. To those reporting him as awful: you are likely entitled, incompetent fools bitter from your poor marks & inability to grasp the material.
This prof is the best. I hope I can take more of his courses. I sent him many emails throughout the course for extra help and he gladly met with me on zoom for as much time as I needed. There are clearly a lot of cheaters in the course, so if you found his emails to be passive aggressive you likely are a giant cheater and deserve to fail.
Professor Horn is a great guy, and although this course was online only he still makes an effort to make learning easy. Some of the course material is quite heavy and is hard to understand, but his lecture videos make most problems easy and quick. With a large course load it was hard to balance Statistics with everything. Plus he's pretty funny too
Wayne horn definitely knows what he is teaching and even does a very good job at it, however the for the exams being weighted 40% each it seems curial to test students on material not taught or merely glanced over. The assignment questions are difficult but they seem like child's play after seeing what he puts on his exams.
I really tried to enjoy the lectures and laugh at Wayne's jokes. HOWEVER, after receiving a multitude of passive-aggressive and rude emails and messages, this changed. He clearly does not understand what it means to professionally communicate with students. If you don't mind being degraded or punished for others' lack of integrity, you will be fine
I would doubt some of these good reviews because this prof honestly makes this course worse than it needs to be. He is disrespectful and gets defensive easily. When it comes to the tests and the low averages be prepared for him to tell everybody about how we are lazy or cheaters. I would recommend Quadir section instead.
Great prof! His lectures were divided into simple 10 minute videos with relevant business real world examples.
I think Wayne Horn is an amazing lecturer. However, I have a problem with how he directs his TAs to mark assignments. I need to show exactly what was there in Mr. Horn's answer sheet otherwise I lose marks. What could've been 80-90s marks, became 60s to 70s. I know this is to prevent cheating and I sympathize with him but it stressed me a lot.
Avoid him, imagine the average grade of our midterm is 50% which take 30% of our final grade. He doesn't want his students to pass this course. Don't blame students if it is no doubt is Wayne's problem
Wayne is my favourite prof from this semester. His videos were mostly short and to the point with good examples. Assignments were a bit long but they were good practice for the exams. I wish he was teaching STAT 2559.
I don't get what all the hate is about. This man is great! You're lucky if you have him as a prof. No complaints whatsoever.
My biggest regret this semester was choosing this class, it was so bad. He is not only very demanding in terms of grades. And often will accuse you even if you have dropped he will still accuse you, and so nonsensical. But this semester I wasted a lot of experience just dealing with his academic integrity, it was devastating!
I am writing this review as one of his TAs. Ive TAd 2 of his courses before (2507&2606) and I thankfully get to TA for him again next semester. He is one of the best profs you will find at Carleton. It seems like most of the harsh reviews came from one or two students. Wayne is very caring and always willing to help.
NOT SURE WHAT ALL THE HYPE IS ABOUT. NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS PROF. WAS ALWAYS READY TO HELP EXTRA
Where did the chili pepper rating go because this prof is hot afffff. Good teacher too, made a boring class less boring.
worst professor ever, he has no idea how to make Assignments and exams. He never cares about his students. All students in last get bad grades finally, I'm sure it's his fault, but he still blames his students didn't work hard lol.
Taking this class made me lose 20 lbs and my stress and anxiety tripled, and he does not help either with his nonsense accusations. If you cant reach to half your class, you have a problem man. get off this website and work on actually helping students, you saying your busy 24/7 doesn't matter, so are we. Its your job to let us have a good experain
Absolute worst prof I've ever had. When it came to any questions I had in regards to the course he would be of no help whatsoever. He is rude responding to all of his students and belittles us. I wouldn't even take this course with him as the prof even if some one were to PAY ME. I would rate him 0 stars if possible.
If you want to go to a psych ward by the end of a semester, take this class with Wayne horn. He'll degrade you to the point where you don't wanna learn anything anymore. Would I take it again? never in a million years. I would rather join the military
10/10 would recommend!
Dr. Wayne is a really good teacher. He gives lots of examples to make it easy to understand the material and videos aren't too long so it's easy to pay attention. You can tell that he cares about his students learning and mental health. The only negative is that he's very strict with deadlines.
If you want to have the worse time of your life take this class with him. He makes an already difficult class even harder. Not supportive has a superiority complex and his tests make you feel like they are made to keep averages down and not promote success but to make it hard as possible cause he thinks everyone is cheating
The way he marks assignments/tests is insane. He deducts a lot of marks. He expects each answer to a test/assignment to have a level of detail which is not achievable. In normal courses such as MATH 2000, which is way tougher, the marking is done in manner that follows common sense. Wayne, on the other hand, expects so many useless details.
If I had one hour left to live I would spend it in this class because it feels like an eternity
Professor Horn is a great prof and a great guy. The lectures are comprehensive, with lots of extra information that help understanding the course big time. Sure, statistics can be boring and annoying at times, but the professor does his best to make it enjoyable. Show up to office hours and ask questions, do the practice q's and you'll be fine.
The formulas have formulas that we don't use, and there are formulas that we do use, that aren't on there. Tough grader, if you have the right answers, but miss a step & your mark is going down hard. assignments are worth nothing & exams are worth a lot, double pass rule too. people are doing an 80% final in my class cuz they flopped the midterms.
Coming to Carleton as a mature student during COVID was anxiety inducing but Wayne has been one of the bright spots. His videos were short and to the point with good examples and corny dad jokes. My emails often got a response within a couple hours, and his explanations and assignment hints were always helpful. He runs a tight ship but he's fair.
Avoid at all costs, Wayne has minimal care for his students, little to no feedback, his lectures sucked the life out of me, tests are not even during class time they are Saturday mornings. Overall Wayne could not care less if you struggle in his course, all he seems to care about is constantly hitting you with confusing and challenging content.
Avoid him, exams take 80% of the grade and are very tough. If you want to get a low grade, you can choose him
It feels like I'm in the gulag, just pain. why make the tests so ridiculous where the class avg ends up being so low they curve your grade 5% at the end? paranoia from cheating or just pure arrogance and thinking your class is at the center. I am avoiding stats 2, shame cause this class could be done better, Stat 2606-2601, nothing has changed.
ive had a really good impression of dr horn. i met with him for extra help and he has been more than accommodating. as long as you keep up with the material each week and actually do the assignments yourself instead of cheating like a lot of ppl, youll be fine. tests are fair especially when he takes questions from assignments to put on the test :)
Positives: -Exams weren't that hard compared to other classes -Lectures are about as interesting as a stats lecture can be Negatives: -Kinda paranoid (same with TAs - stop staring down everyone in the middle of exams) -A million assignments worth only 1% of your mark that are due at least once a week. These are so unnecessary
I think he was good at explaining his content however his assignments were only worth 1 percent which was kinda pointless.
Extremely content heavy class, with a crazy amount of lectures (45 in total!). Assignments only worth 1% of your grade that take hours to do. Disappointed with the class overall.
Wayne is the best prof I have had so far at Carleton. His lectures were fun and I never found myself spacing out at all. Also he will go out of his way to make sure you are able to understand the content. This could be by office hours or by email (the longest I wait for a response was 2ish hours and I was asking questions all the time).
While I have to say that Wayne Horn's class can't be described as a fun or easy one, he does give somewhat good materials to work with and realistically if you study hard enough and review the material you should AT LEAST PASS (like other classes). Put in at least 1-2 days of productive studying, you could probably squeeze out a half-decent mark.
This class rewards those who work hard. You NEED to show up to each lecture, and do ALL the problems. Wayne puts a lot of effort into giving you lots of practice problems and extra explanations. You can get a great grade with hard work, but you will fail if you don't. He's a nice guy, really tries to make it interesting.
This course covers a lot of different topics. I went to every class, did every practice question, and went to most office hours to get an A-. Usually I put in half that work to get an A-. But Dr. Horn does an amazing job explaining things. He even set up a quick Zoom meetings for me a couple times when I had some last minute questions. Very caring.
Wayne is the GOAT fr no cap. He goes over an example after every new concept which is amazing and so helpful. I go out of my way to watch his lecture videos! The first test for this class was really fair and didn't have any surprises. Also go to class. He cooks.
Dr. Horn is my favourite instructor at Carleton to date! Make sure you go to class, take notes, and do the practice tests. If you do, you won't have a problem with any of the tests or the exam, no surprises, just put in the work! Wayne makes everything easy to understand and really cares about his students.
Pros: Horn teaches relatively well, you might have a decent understanding if you attend / watch all the lectures. Cons: Be weary of unusual policies that he may enact, like the no cell phone usage in class policy, be prepared to be asked to leave the classroom if you are using one.
I took STAT2507 last year (online) and did not pass first time around, though, it was my own fault. Dr. Horn was easily the better professor of the two. Watch his lectures! While his jokes are corny (in a good way), his explanations/exercises will carry you (I didn't use the textbook). I chatted with him regarding other courses too. I enjoyed.
Easy to understand lectures. Gives sample tests for practice. Try to go to class as the slides he posts does not contain the example solutions.
Wayne is an amazing teacher. The recorded lectures were straightforward and interesting. However, the tutorial were very boring as we had to use an old software (SPSS) but they were worth only 5 %.The tests and the final were worth 90% with fairly challenging questions, you would be fine as long as you watch the lectures and practice questions.
Lectures were informative, and he tries to engage students as much as possible. He is very willing to help out struggling students and honestly wishes for the whole class to succeed, however he does not tolerate chatter or use of phones during lectures. Labs were extremely useless, and assignment provided good practice, but were not worth a lot.
Took Business Stats online with Dr. Horn and had a great experience! Lots of lectures so don't leave them to the last minute. Tests worth 90% of grade, but DO THE PRACTICE QUESTIONS to study for them. They're very helpful for the long answer portion on tests. Overall, great prof and always willing to help you out! Lecture vids are entertaining too!
Professor Horn is an amazing professor, caring for his students and wanting everyone to succeed. Tests make up 90% of the final grade, but are non-cumulative so it's easier to study for. IF YOU DON'T PRACTICE YOU'LL FAIL. I didn't the first time, I re-took it and realized how straightforward the course is. Definitely a top prof all the time for me.
Prof Horn made me actually enjoy stats, a class i had been dreading until i took it with him. Engages students, gives great lectures, and tests were extremely fair based on what he taught in class and the practice tests. if you can take this class with him, do it!!!
Professor Horn is an exceptional professor as he tries his best to ensure the success of everyone in the class. His lectures are thoughtfully crafted, incorporating numerous exercises to ensure a thorough understanding of newly introduced concepts. Make sure to attend the lectures as Professor Horn's sense of humor makes the classes very enjoyable!
Waste of money and time. Extremely challenging with no book to study!
this course was very easy and to the point, i took it online but test in person. his recorded lectures were super good and split into small sections so it's easy to break up. the tests are very fair on what he teaches. his annoucements are to the point and he doesn't screw around (except for dog jokes) so people think hes tough but hes chill :)
His lectures are amazing. He explains a topic and then solves an example question step by step. These problems are very similar to the text/assignments. Tests seem standardized across all stat courses no matter the prof, so it comes down to what lecture/learning style works for you. Also, his lectures are short and broken into 10-15 min parts.
Wayne was a great prof. He is always available for office hours and cares for students. All you have to do to get a good grade/pass is show up to lectures, don't cheat & ask questions when needed (there are no dumb questions). Only complaint was the emphasis on the process instead of the right answer when grading & the lack of teams on assignments
Great prof! Go to class, do the practice problems and you will succeed.
He has decent recorded lectures, but they aren't that great for non-statistic majors as they sometimes gloss over test content. His tests are fairly difficult compared to other STAT2507 sections. Importantly the MARKING is VERY UNFORGIVING as you only gain marks on a test for having EXACTLY what's on the TA's scheme. Beware Would not recommend!
TOUGH grader
Lectures are engaging and he encourages participation and jokes around which makes the class fly by. Assignments are easy if you follow the examples in the slides.
His videos are short so it's easy to watch. Test questions are a lot like the assignment and sample test. I could've gotten an A in the course but I fell behind at the end.
Wayne is a very good professor. He is kind to students. He kicks out those who play on their phones or have conversations in class. He teaches well and his slides are detailed. His video lectures are well made.
Wayne gives clear explanations of every concept with lots of examples. I almost never need to watch a video more than once before I understand things. I appreciate that he tries to throw jokes into the videos even if they are lame most of the time (just kidding Wayne). He also gives good practice material for the tests.
Icl I'm not the brightest person but the way Wayne teaches stats is goated. His recorded lectures are very informative and he goes through examples that prepare us for the tests and the final. His jokes are so unfunny that they're funny. Stats isn't an easy course but with a prof like him who explains everything so well it's pretty chill.
He's a great teacher. Grading schemes are too specific and biased towards those that are clerically skilled and good at writing things down on paper quickly. The schemes, although consistent, don't necessarily reward conceptual understanding of content. Relies on antiquated, non replaceable research to justify his technology in class policy.
I like the way Mr. Wayne explains topics in overview way so I understand why to do things before doing them. He tries to joke with us in class to make it go better. I went to office hours he was very friendly and helpful.
even though this course was fully online for me wayne was still soo caring and awesome! overall i found the content quite boring but wayne made it really fun and explained everything so well, i rarely had questions. him and ahmed are amazing, both held great review sessions for the final and tests i highly recommend going.
This is one of the worst math/stats prof I've had at Carleton. The material he gives out does not reflect what's on tests and exam. He also marks very few things, so if you don't like your mark, your pretty much screwed in the way there isn't anything else to boost it.
Super cool prof, in highschool I was super bad at statistics but with Wayne everything clicked. All of his lectures online explain everything you need to know for his tests. Literally just follow his lectures and go through the practice problems during the lectures, and you will be set for this course
His lessons were easy to understand with good examples. He always took time to answer questions before and after class. Two tests instead of one midterm was perfect. The only thing I didn't like was the assignments weren't worth much even though they took me a few hours to finish.
Good videos easy to understand and test questions similar to homework. Not bad for online course.
Professor Horn is very interactive during lectures and he even learned most of our names. I emailed him a bunch of times with questions and he always gave really good detailed answers. I feel like he really cares about helping students learn.
The mathematical skills involved in this course are not terribly hard. The knowledge I gained in this course is definitely invaluable to my future, and I know that Wayne made sure of this. That being said, attention to detail and staying on top of things is super important, especially towards the end of the course. Overall a very solid prof+course.
Prof. Horn was a funny, but knowledgeable professor who wants his students to succeed. A lot of content overlap with high school data management, but he made all the new content I learned understandable. The tests and exams were just like the practice ones, but a thorough use of the textbook will help you thrive in this course.
Wayne was such an amazing prof to have! :) He was always available to answer questions through email, and his lectures had clear explanations, and were fun to listen to (since he made a joke every now and then!). Overall, recommend taking him if you can.
Got zero for my first assignment because I used LibreOffice for making histograms instead of SPSS (which do not run on my home computer), without an option to re-submit. Although it was specified that use of SPSS is required; such requirements are excessively brutal and do not serve any pedagogical purpose
His lectures are good and explain the content properly. If you go to the classes and do the review + assignments you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade. However, he doesn't post solutions of any of the problems covered in class so you have to rely on other people/his office hours if you miss class or miss something during class.
He explains things really well during class but sometimes there is too much info to process in one sitting or he goes a bit fast so I go to his office hours and he always gives me a really good summary of things and clears up all of my confusion. He also gives good tips to help tell the difference between certain types of questions. A+ prof!
He knows the material. However, his communication style could be improved.
Professor Horn's STAT 2509 class is very much a case of you get what you put in, but he is available to assist you if the going gets tough. Two office hours per week and responds to emails. If you want a good grade go to class, he has a sense of humour and interacts with the class to make sure everyone is on the same page. Workload is reasonable
Just three things to remember 1.Figure out the formulas on the formula sheet. 2.Complete the sample test. 3.The exam is basically the same as on the sample test. Best class I've taken in four years of university
I find the lectures to be engaging and very clear! He is always open to answering questions over email, provides thoughtful responses, and wants his students to succeed. I was nervous for this class as I haven't taken stats in the past, but, with the resources provided and Professor Horn's expertise, I have felt very supported! I would recommend!
Such a funny prof! Love his lectures, even if they were online. Makes funny jokes, explains the material well, and gives tons of practice questions. Also you don't need to buy any textbooks!
Wayne is the best thing to happen to statistics since the Central Limit Theorem.
Worst professor I've had at Carleton. Despite being a top student, I did poorly in his class even by watching every lecture and exercises as his tests did not reflect the practice tests at all, and I found him to be cold and borderline rude during office hours where he preaches he helps. Asking for a regrade got my mark lowered by 10%. Avoid him.
He was an amazing professor with a great sense of humour. I really enjoyed the class with him. If you put in the work you get a good outcome. He is there if you have any questions and makes you feel comfortable asking anything you like.
His lectures and assignments were OK. Practice problems like there's no tomorrow if you want to pass this course. Slack off (tempting for second-year students) and you will fail. Exams can be very hard and short on time, so you need to be on top of your game to stand a chance. Overall a challenging and stressful experience I am happy to put behind.
The course was well-organized, but I did not find the instructor approachable. He does not respond well to feedback.
Scheduled test at 7pm on a friday (the class was on tuesdays and thursdays)
Amazing prof. Tests were very similar to the practice tests and homework problems. Overall a great professor I would take it again.
The material was very well explained. However, he does not accept electronic unless you can lay it flat on the desk to take notes. Couple of assignments, but they are very straightforward and you can rely on the examples from class to complete them. Must attend class for notes as the slides provided don't go in depth of what is discussed in class.
Wayne's explanations are so clear I didn't need to read the textbook and he keeps videos interesting by joking around. He always gave me hints when I was stuck on an assignment question. Literally the best prof I ever had.
But Prof Horn was really sweet and always answered my emails promptly with kindness. The tests are very similar to the practice he gives and his lectures are easy to follow. Assignments are not horrible, they're good practice. Would've taken him again for any other course -- dropped this course bc I found out I didn't need it.
After having a horrible experience with Stats at my former school, this class was refreshing. I am no math whiz, but with Professor Horn's lectures, guided practice questions, and useful sample tests, I am feeling confident that I will pass the class with a satisfactory grade for a WFD class. He always has office hours too.
Go to every lecture!!! The only way to get answers to the questions on the slides. Nice guy, speaks German oddly. Good teacher in general, enthusiastic, knows his stuff, and has good jokes. Assignments are easy. Felt bad for the guy in a way I cannot explain, also probably the most ripped prof at CU.
Professor Wayne is genuinely one of the best professors at Carleton. He's extremely smart, funny, and caring. He always responds to emails quickly and actually helps when you're confused. He even held a full review session before Test 2, which was very helpful. If you have the chance to take him, do it you won't regret it.
This guy is the goat; the lectures are actually engaging and not just word-slop. Explains the subject, then we do examples, which is the best way to learn. The textbook isn't needed to succeed. Don't use AI; the assignments are NOT that hard😭✌, and they help you with the test. Tests are the perfect length. Best prof I've had in the past 2 years.
I was worried cuz 90% of our grade is tests but he basically gives questions right from the assignments and practice questions. Easy course if you do the work.
Lectures are engaging. Very willing to help and take questions.
Without a doubt the best prof I've had at CU. Knows stats inside and out, and explains everything to a level that even myself, who hates numbers and formulas, can understand. Cares immensely about his students, and makes himself available to the best of his abilities before tests. Lectures are super engaging as well. Would 1000% take him again.
Very good teacher
This professor is very clear during lectures and has a great sense of humor, regularly making hilarious jokes that keep the class engaging and enjoyable while still ensuring the material is easy to understand.
Everyone told me this course was difficult and there are a lot of topics but if you use the practice material and do the assignments the tests are pretty much the same stuff. The videos are good because he explains each concept then does an example on how to apply it. He did a super helpful review before the second test. Would definitely recommend.
Sent angry email to class.
The professor is inaccessible during exam times.
Never a boring lecture. Prof made classes engaging despite me finding statistics quite a boring subject. If you don't go to class you're not gonna have a fun time since his slides don't provide solutions for practice problems, but in class he breaks them down in detail and makes them easy to understand. Funny guy too.
Go to class and put in SOME effort outside of class and his classes should be a breeze. Just make sure you don't skip classes because his slides don't tell you much without a proper explanation. Funny guy, and he makes his classes engaging. His exams aren't unfair and as long as you do the assignments and practice, you're golden
Lecture videos were short and to the point with good explanations and some dad jokes thrown in to lighten things up. The guy had office hours in person and online plus he made private appointments for me twice. Definitely goes out of his way to help if you ask for it. Thanks Wayne! 😊
His class was difficult and test heavy. Almost half the grade is from the exam.
His emails often come across as passive aggressive and the online lectures near the end of the semester were hard to follow. He sees high assignment grades as cheating if they don't align with your test marks, which is frustrating as they take hours to do. He says his tests are straightforward, while the low class average says otherwise.
I can't lie this course is hard and covers too many topics but Dr. Horn gives sample tests and lots of practice questions. If you fall behind you're cooked so better practice every week. He answered so many questions for me over email even the day of the exam. Bless and protect this man.
