Best and practical.
Really good prof. Very clear.
The best financial accounting prof in Calgary by far (U of C or MRC). His students learn a lot, do well on the material and take a lot away from the course.

10 years past since I was receiving the wisdom from Wayne and he is and will stay #1. Please, do not compare him to Patsy or other jokes who are there. It would be just a bad taste.
Wayne is THE best accounting teacher I've ever had. I wish he were full-time at the University, I would definately try to take all my acct classes with him. His tests are hard, but he never lets you go into a test unprepared. Excellent teaching style!
Teaches to the test, does not understand theory.
Wayne is the BEST!!! He's a great mentor and really cares about the profession. Super fair tests but you can't slack that's for sure. Defintely, UofC's loss for losing his to Mount Royal.
Wayne is an amazing professor who applies real world situations in the material, and prepares students for exams and tests. He is fair and easy to talk to - I would recommend taking as many classes with him as possible!
one of the best acct profs. Brings a lot of practical knowledge and examples, which help understand the real world.
The Best prof at U of C. Makes accounting very simple and interesting. Very approachable and always willing to help. He wants his classes to be the best so he goes out of his way to explain things in ways that everyone will understand.
For Auditing, nobody can beat Wayne - he has so many examples from real life, his stories are great! He is a little harder for 343, but 343 is a brutal class.
Great prof. Knows the material and teaches it very well (pretty funny sometimes, too). Buy his fantastic notes pack (it's pretty much all I studied for the final). The tests are tough, but very fair. Don't slack off, and you should do just fine.
Great prof, this was a class that I enjoyed going to. He knows his material, and the new text is great.
great guy, course wasn't bad with him as coordinator...best accounting prof at UofC right now in my opinion
The best accounting prof at U of C. Explains everything clearly and tries to make class interesting. His notes were awesome. I wish I had him for all my accounting classes...
TRULY AN AMAZING TEACHER!!! He made me want to be an accountant!!
I'm not a huge fan of accounting but he actually made it enjoyable and achievable to pass the course! I would not have survived without his amazing notes package and sense of humour. He's a really nice guy, always willing to help and is definitly the best acct prof at U of C!!
Best accounting prof at UofC. He has many real life stories that enhance the overall understanding of the content. Wayne has a great sense of humor too. One of the best classes I've had in university so far.
Awesome Prof, Very knowledgeable, Great sense of humor, Not the easiest but his goal is for you to know your stuff very well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I think he's one of the best Acct professors. His class is interesting and you learn a lot from his stories. Very helpful when you ask for help. He goes a lil bit fast in class but probably because there r a lot of materials... His notes are Gold!!!
Best professor ever. Makes accounting so interesting and is incredibly helpful. Not the easiest prof but it's accounting, it's not supposed to be easy. Definitely take accounting with him if you have the chance!!
This is the professor you want for accounting. There is a reason why his class averages are higher. Not only is he a great teacher, he was very understanding of my sports schedule and allowed me to move quizzes and the midterm around. This is the guy for accounting!
Very clear and fair prof, you can tell he wants his students to actually come away with something from the course
This is the class that will reveal those that are serious about accounting .He is a great teacher, he really wants you to understand the stuff and be ready to take on future challenges. Its not easy but again it isn't supposed to be when you get to this level. Be ready to study like hell if you want a good mark, do as much as you can before class.
He is the best. Tells pretty funny stories too. His notes are GOLD, you want to hang on to those. The book is ok, but I would focus more on his notes examples, esp for the tax, current liability, & bond units. Very reasonable guy, and makes his expectations clear. Also very helpful to his students outside of class.
Fantastic teacher. Examples are perfect, and explanations are perfect. If you get a chance, choose this guy!
AMAZING professor! If you have to take Acct 317, take it with Wayne. He keeps the class interesting and really knows his stuff. Best prof I've had in university to date!
This guy is incredible - he came to sub for our acct 317 class while Patsy was away and now I regret not having the chance to take this course with him. Gives great notes and you can tell right off the bat he's more intelligent than the avg prof. If you get a chance to take ANY class with him, go for it!!
Best Accounting Prof! His classes are not easy but will prepare you for what you will be facing in the future. Extremely organized and helpful. Provides an Excellent notes package for $10 that is worth its weight in gold.
He's a great teacher if you are an accounting major, and a terrible one if you are not. He focuses more on preparing you for the the real world as an accountant and thus makes the course a lot more difficult than most other professors. Be prepared to work your butt off, but if you have a future in accounting this will be a valuable course.
Very tough class. Wayne is probably the best professor to teach this course as he will definitely prepare you on how to become an accountant. Definitely will make or break if you really wanted to pursue accounting, or do something else. Tests are insane, but you will be rewarded if you know how to think 'outside the box'.
Easy people, do the notes stop memorizing everything he is a beauty
Really really hard class, be ready for this one. Wayne takes very difficult content and makes in managable. Would recommend Wayne to anyone - the class is hard though.
Good Prof but tests are pretty tough. He had to scale up our final 15 marks.
Very conscise prof, his content are very applicable. Notes are great, if you do hmwk, you will do well.
Better ACCT prof than anyone else, but this class is just inevitably hard. Do your homework and understand everything inside and out. He is difficult to catch around school but e-mail and ask lots of questions u don't understand
The material isn't hard to understand but he likes to trick students on quizzes so don't take them as an indication on what you'll get on the midterm and final. He's good at explaining concepts but adds a lot of unnecessary "real-world" situations. Take class if you're majoring ACCT, otherwise pick someone else!
BEST ACCT PROF!!! Unlike Lakra, he is extremely clear and lectures are easy to follow because he provides a very handy notes package. Quizzes were fair and midterm/final was hard. As long as you study, do practice work and know the definitions, you'll be fine. Take ACCT with him!!
Great prof. Makes his expectations clear, provides a handy set of course notes, gives detailed help if you need it, and has fair exams. One of the best profs I've had at UofC. He's worth taking ACCT317 with regardless of your major.
Sure the class is hard, but thats expected. Make it easier by taking it with Wayne! One of the best acct prof. for sure, explains everything REALLY well; solves the examples during class. Responds to emails quickly and actually provides useful answers. But yeah quizzes & MT were still brutal.
I had him for 317 and been hooked since. This course is challenging, exams Wayne writes tend to be tricky (this year Wright wrote the exams so they were ok) but you learn so much and you know stuffs he makes you do are practical and good for you later on. To be honest,if you can't survive his class then acct may not be a good fit for you
Best accounting prof. Sure the curriculum is difficult and there is a lot to know, but Wayne knows what he's teaching and you learn a lot. I wouldn't think of taking this class with anyone else.
Wayne is a great prof who has a lot of relevant experience since he has his CA and CFA and relates the course material to some great real-life examples. This is much better than the purely academic profs who have PhD's. Wayne also teaches CASB face-to-face sessions so if you're considering getting your CA I highly recommend Wayne for 341 & 343.
BEST PROF ever!!!! His lecture notes rocks! Take as many courses with him as you can:)
The best class out of all those he teaches.
He is very knowledgeable, but I found him incredibly rude and condesending. He always talked about the level of professionalism he expected from us, but never returned the favor. He constantly made students feel inadequate and publicly humiliated them in front of their peers. Smart man, but extremely lacks professionalism.
The student who made the comment dated 10/13/11 must have the wrong prof because Wayne didn't teach ACCT 317 at all in 2011 - if you're going to trash a really terrific instructor you better get their name right.
If you can't go through the accounting class with him.. especially 341 or 343, you don't have what it takes to be public accountant. Give up and go into different major. With help and support he gives, and how he remembers his students.. he's most memorable prof I ever encountered. agree with the guy below. If you feel inadequate before him,You are
Just to clarify for the last 2 commenters. 1) I totally agree that he's an amazing prof and 2) i personally think both of you should look on student centre. He taught Spring 2011 (I took 317 during this term) and I have friends who are taking it Fall 2011...which is now. LOL. >_<
Hard class, but if you stay ontop of chapter practice examples and readings you'll be ok. As for Wayne, best prof you will ever have at university.
ACCT 317 is a very difficult class, and can come as a shock to many second year students. You have to stay on top in this class in order to succeed, meaning do the chapter readings and questions before the lecture! It's hard to catch up in this course, and the second half after the midterm is much harder! Irvine is the best to have for this class
I switched from ACCT to FNCE and I still go and visit Wayne. He has more than one ace up his sleeve in case you don't understand something one way, and is more than happy to play it. His classes aren't easy, but if you put in the effort, you will learn A LOT. Easily one of Haskayne's greatest -- Deserves tenure IMO.
Wayne is literally an accounting God. If you want to make your tuition and education at Haskayne worth it - take as many classes as you possibly can with Wayne. He engages students with challenging examples in class, and an interactive classroom environment. His exams are difficult but prepare you for real life situations and CASB. Love this guy.
Right off the bat you can kiss the 12% quiz component of your grade goodbye. The average is 6/12 and thats if you get lucky. This class is a shock class for anyone who "thinks" they'll be fine. I've had to quit my job and literally live in a bubble for 3 months just to pass Waynes class. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
Extremely condescending towards students, will make fun of students if they don't get a concept, rude, adds an extremely hard quiz component and tells the class there is a 50% average (why add it in the first place??). Exams are extremely difficult!! Goodluck getting a good grade that reflects your effort!
An exceptional instructor. The course is challenging tough, but attend all his lectures and you should be good. A bit arrogant sometimes but nothing to worry about. His class examples are great. Very good in clearing concepts
Excellent Prof!! TAKE ACCOUNTING WITH WAYNE!! He's funny, very smart and knows his stuff. Explains everything clearly, and if you do what he says, you will get good marks. Accounting isn't the easiest course, but with a good prof its much better.
I'm still on the fence about Wayne. He can be arrogant rude and edgy one lecture, and then patient and compassionate the next. Expects alot out of his students, scolds those who don't have articling jobs, and is waaaay too 'pro CA'. Great lecturer though, answers questions well. If you're an ACCT major you can't really avoid him. Good luck.
This is hands down one of the hardest accounting courses. And Wayne does not make it easier. You pretty much have to cram every week for his impossible quizzes (avg<50%). He is quite rude to students. Lord knows where he finds the exam questions from! Brutally brutally hard, goodluck you will need it!!!
Tough class. But he's the best prof I've ever had, hands down. Really helpful and nice. You have to give a 100% every week to get a good grade and its not impossible to do so.
Good professor overall, I learned alot. However, the exams were hard, and there was so much content! His notes were good though.
He really new how to teach the class and gave us the material we needed for the exams
Wow what a hard course.. Do NOT take this course if you are not willing to put in at least 8 hours a week (spring semester). The amount of content you need to know if baffling and the midterm and final is unreasonable
He was really clear and gave us all the material we needed for the exams
Don't take this course in the spring, it's like a math class. It is very demanding and you have to understand the material. Course gets harder after midterm. Wayne is a good prof, gives a lot of examples. Quiz questions appear harder than textbook examples. Assignments take up a lot of time so start them early.
Wayne is an extremely knowledgeable professor. He's very clear and helpful in explaining things. I found the class easy once you read the textbook, really understand it, and do the practice questions he recommends. You will do fine on the midterm and final if you do this. The quizzes on the other hand can be a little tricky but assignments are easy
Material is not that difficult and easy to understand, however Wayne likes to trick you and expects that you are a CA/CFA. He is going to add additional information in the questions just to trick you. A lot of theory questions that no idea where he gets them from.
I really enjoyed Irvine as a professor. He is extremely clear with his teaching and relates nearly everything taught to what you might encounter some day through his past experiences (which are extensive). The course itself is not extremely difficult, but his tests are very tricky and have a tough time constraint on them which makes them tougher
THIS GUY IS THE BEST ACCT 317 prof at UofC. So helpful, super funny and knows the content very well. Actually teaches CASBEE Courses for the CA UFE. I definitely recommend him. So far one of my most favorit profs! Just an awesome guy.
This is a tough class, but I highly recommend taking it with Wayne. He is very clear and uses great examples to help students understand the concepts. By far one of the best teachers in the business faculty, and my favourite.
I don't generally write reviews, but take this class with Wayne. DO the recommended practice problems, and attend the lectures. This class was my first A. Yes, this class is a heavier work load, however Wayne makes this subject SO MUCH EASIER. Excellent prof, will take every acct class I can with him.
Wayne is an AMAZING prof. His quizzes are very hard but his midterm/final are fair. If you read the chapters and do the work before coming to the lecture, the way he explains things will give you a very well rounded understanding. He is also funny and easy to listen to! It is a hard course but very manageable with good work ethic and effort!
Wayne is without a doubt the best professor Haskayne has to offer. He is almost always in his office to help out with any questions. This course is brutally hard, but if you put in the work you will get through it. This is the second time I've had Wayne and I am sad that he only teaches to intermediate, as I would love to take advanced with him.
This is the second course I've taken with Wayne (since ACCT 317). His teaching style seems to have changed, he makes the subject a lot more intimidating, and almost leaves you discouraged by the end of class. On a positive note; he still cares about his students and makes an effort to be as helpful as possible during office hours.
No idea why people complain about his classes being hard. Ya he tries to be tough, but in my opinion, he has already made the material much easier than real life and is appropriate for an undergraduate level course. Always available in office hours and very clear and helpful in his explanations.
Wayne is an awesome prof who is very helpful and makes very difficult material easier to understand. I am not an accounting major but wouldn't have passed this class without him!
Nothing but good things to say about Wayne, wish he taught more courses
If I ever had a checklist for qualities I wanted in a prof, Wayne would probably tick on almost every one of them. He is a tough professor, there is no denying that, but his lectures are interesting, he is a funny guy, he is a very gifted teacher. I have nothing but good things to say about Wayne, I wish he taught more classes.
Definitely one of the hardest courses I've gone through. You must be really committed to putting time and effort into this class. Wayne explains the material very clear, makes it interesting, and will help you out as much as he can during his office hours. Take this class with him as I don't think any other prof does it as well as he does.
He is the best prof you can ever get. Try to take as many classes as you can. Totally changed my perspective towards Accounting.
Wayne is honestly amazing!! He was always there and willing to help students. Do your problems from the book, but he is way better at explaining so i would just show up to class, but you will not regret attending!
Wayne is a very good teacher for accounting and clearly enjoys his teaching job. He is very knowledgeable and clear in class. However, you should be aware he's kind of a jerk and isn't very helpful unless you are a "pretty girl", I'm just going to leave it at that.
best Haskayne prof, and it's not even close
The absolute best and most organized accounting prof in Haskayne. I love his teaching style and the notes he hands out are outstanding.
Honestly one of the best professors at U of C. He really teaches you what it takes to succeed in the real world as well as his classes. Extremely organized, which made it easier to understand tough topics. I took as many accounting classes with him as I possibly could.
Wayne is an amazing accounting prof! He can come off as a little intimidating sometimes, but he's actually really funny and an excellent teacher. He explains everything crystal clear, and adds in side stories that make the lecture more interesting. Also, it seems he genuinely wants his students to do well.
Wayne is amazing! He clearly knows his stuff. He also has interesting stories. He explains everything perfectly and makes sure that his students understand the important things to learn and the tough chapters to work on. A lot of individual studying is needed in this tough course, but Wayne is very approachable and will go out of his way to help.
Best accounting prof I've had at U of C, knows his stuff extremely well and the notes he makes for the class (cost $10) are amazing and have all the examples he goes through in class. Two group projects that are kind of tough. Quizzes are hard and lots of studying is needed, but they help you to keep on top of the class. Midterm is fair.
Wayne is an accounting God!! explains things so clearly in class. The class itself is a lot of work but he is always willing to explain things in even simpler terms during office hours. He seems scary at first but hes not at all. Just make you work hard and its worth it because you learn so much!
Wayne is a decent prof, and he's definitely one of the better accounting prof at the UofC. However, he makes himself very unapproachable and many students i knew didn't bother going to his office hours. It's a bit strange, because his wife is the complete opposite, she's really open and willing to help students out. The course, itself, is tough.
One of the best accounting teachers Ive had. After taking the class I actually decided to change my career path and want to now designate after school. Great teacher, tough class but if you don't have him for 343 then good luck
If you can take any accounting courses with Wayne DO IT. DON'T TAKE IT WITH ANYONE ELSE. He's so helpful and makes real-life applications that make the course easier to understand. It's a tough course and really does require 10-15 hours a week minimum but if you focus and talk to Wayne he's very helpful.
Very knowledgable but also expects us to know harder and difficult concepts because of how well he teaches. Assignments and long and hard. Can be hilarious at times, and picks on you if you don't may attention in class.
He is amazing! Take it with him and I am sure you will do well.
Wayne is a fantastic instructor.
Wayne is a very experienced professor that provides a few additional ideas to the curriculum. As long as you follow the readings and practice the textbook questions you will do well.
Take 217 with Wayne, his stories alone are worth it.
Honestly one of the best profs in Haskayne. Its a hard course but he makes it alright.
Trust me when I say this, if you have a choice, select someone else. Wayne doesn't go through the trouble of teaching you some really crucial base concepts, rather he just focuses on the fluff, as he jumps from one topic to another. He always goes overtime with no concern, and he is where he is by learning, not by stuffing so much info in a smst.
This class was a lot of work, keep up on doing the questions. The note package he gives is AMAZING. He is so organized and very willing to help. Go to office hours if you can, its very helpful.
Wayne is an amazing prof - so knowledgeable and helpful. The class itself is a ton of work, hardest class I have taken in my degree. Fortunately Wayne makes the process much better. His note package is great and the questions he provides for practice are very helpful.
Very clear prof with high expectations that he prepares you well for. He's got a teaching style where he won't hold your hand, which is a pro or a con depending on your learning style. The textbook did not come into use at all because his notes are all you need. As a tip though, borrow the solutions to the notes from a friend. It will save you.
This is the third accounting class I take with Wayne and he is great. A little intimidating at times, but explains very well. If you need help don't be afraid to go see him. His quizzes aren't worth a lot but they are tough, and they add up. I recommend you do the practice problems that he assigns in the course outline.
Wayne is hands down the best accounting prof at U of C. If you read his notes over before class, its easy to answer his questions when he calls on you. Try and get his 8 am classes as he will take the time to get to know you and help you as much as possible. His tests are hard, but fair if you do all the practice problems.
Definitely the best accounting prof to prepare you for CPA (make sure to keep all of your notes if you're going the CPA route). Textbook is not necessary as all of his notes have detailed questions which he goes over in class. 341 and 343 are tough courses but Wayne makes them bearable and is always happy to help during office hours.
-Funny, enthusiastic -Assignment 2 is very lengthy. -Sells notes packages, has knowledge checklists, gives review questions. Very useful come exam time. -Dont ditch class. Class problems aren't posted online. -Acct341 is a good indicator whether you want to stay in acct or not. -Quiz on chapter 9 VERY HARD. -Dont the case instead of final quiz
If you skip class, you will fail the quiz that week. Quizzes, exams, and assignments are very tough. It's an intense course, especially going from 217 and 323 to 341. Get ready to work. Wayne is the best financial accounting prof here though. He knows what he's doing and he genuinely cares about how his students do during and after undergrad.
Do the practice ques and the pre-lecture notes and his class is a piece of cake. But there is so much of it all that its hard to keep up... Wayne is a fair marker and amazing at explaining concepts. If you've had him for 217, he has already given you a solid base. I'd take all my fin. acct courses with him if I could!
Bit of a narcissist, but he's a decent prof at explaining concepts. Trouble is that the course content is so difficult that he can't make it any simpler. Midterm is tough (avg around 65) and final was insane (avg below 60). Exams are harder than his questions in class, but he goes through each problem in his notes package and solves it in class. GL
Wayne is a very good accounting prof, unfortunately the class is just very hard. Do the problems from his practice booklet on D2L. The textbook was mostly useless. Don't be afraid to email/talk to him!
Wayne is hands down the best professor at UofC. Never miss any of his classes. His note package will save your life. This class is definitely a tough one, but work hard and do as many problems as you can and it'll be fine. Grading is very fair, and he makes himself very available for students. Textbook is pretty useless, but get it for CPA prep.
Great professor overall. The course is very hard compared to the previous two classes, but his style of teaching and his note package help a lot. I would recommend getting that package regardless if you are in his or Darrin's class. He's also very helpful in his office hours so don't be too intimidated, even if he does come off as a little intense.
Wayne is the most experienced financial accounting professor you can get at UofC. Acct 343 is a challenging class for most but his course notes breaks down and highlights the important points from the textbook so you aren't spending hours reading. His in-class examples are necessary to understanding the material so don't skip class
Wayne is extremely caring towards his students. He has made a very tough course a lot bearable, and he truly cares about preparing his students for the CPA program. I wish every accounting course was taught by Wayne. All you need is his notes, not the text book. Classes are fast paced, and material is tough, but Wayne is always willing to help.
Wayne made a super boring topic interesting. His stories brought the concepts to life and made the class atmosphere light and fun. New also learned about how not to make investment decisions.
Best ACCT prof there is. His classes are straightforward and fast paced. You need to buy his notes to pass. He does lots of examples which is great. He expects a lot out of students though. Don't miss his classes. He has lots of time to meet with students when they need help. Honest and open with his opinions. Great person.
Amazing professor. Explains everything in detail. Does many in class examples and makes sure you understand. Super approachable and is available as often as he can be. I would highly recommend Wayne.
Terrible Lectures, Harder than needed explanations
Wayne is one of the best profs Ive ever had. He cares about his students so much, and acct 341 is hard material but I couldn't imagine being taught by anyone else. He makes it bearable.
Wayne is an amazing prof, he gives easy to understand examples, talks about real world application, and ensures you can understand the content. His tests are hard, so it's important you know what he's looking for (which he will make clear in class). Overall would recommend.
This is a great prof if you are trying to obtain your CPA designation. He has really good notes and the problems he covers in class gives you a good understanding of the content. He can come across as tough but he really makes sure that you know the content. Wish I had him earlier in my understanding of accounting
Great prof, best ACCT prof out there. Second assignment is a partial speculative hedge. Also, do the course guide, textbook questions helped for the midterm but not needed at all for the final because course guide had a lot of extra problems. Final is not as hard as the course guide questions. I recommend doing the d2L quizzes with friends.
The only prof at Haskayne that can explain financial accounting the best. Skipping class will only make you fall behind since it is very lecture heavy but his notes are a life-saver! It's a tough course so doing everything he tells you to do to prepared for quizzes and exams is a must!
I wish I could take all of accounting classes with Wayne. He is an expert on financial accounting and explains concepts at a level that anyone can understand. Attending lectures is a must if you want to succeed. Make sure to go to his office hours and introduce yourself, he is an excellent resource for both accounting and career advice.
Wayne is easily the best accounting prof, and might even be the best prof in the university. His notes are sufficient, so you don't really need the textbook. For 443, I feel like the 1st half was taught much better and I was super prepared for the midterm. The last half I felt he didn't do as good of a job, but maybe that was me slacking off.
Spring was heavy but still manageable with an elective too. He is amazing and deserves all the hype. He provides lots of extra material, office hours, and makes it so interesting even though it's difficult to grasp. Quizzes were rough, but midterm and final were very fair. Practice a lot and study hard! Overall great class, coming from an OBHR kid!
Great prof. He knows his stuff and gives good investing advice. I recommend reading the textbook and doing the exercises but honestly if you're too lazy you can just attend the lectures because he goes over the chapters there. I think the quizzes are harder than the midterm and final, but some of the quiz questions MIGHT be on the final.
I completed 40 uni classes and 443 with Wayne was the single most difficult course. Course is exam heavy (80%), graded stringently and you (along with everyone else) will be writing until the bitter end. The case quizzes are graded harshly (as always). Assignments (20%) are time-consuming but are necessary for a non-failing grade. Good luck.
Easily the most difficult prof in acct. Good luck catching up if you are 5 min late let alone miss a class. Barely passed his course even though I put in more effort than any other class. He is great because he works with CPA so he knows how to set you up, but takes it a little far. Had 5 friends in my class and nobody got over a C, 2 had to retake
Hands down the best accounting prof. Attendance is pretty mandatory along with his note packages but he is smart and an excellent prof. If you don't enjoy accounting with Wayne, you're in the wrong major.
Wayne is the best financial acct prof at U of C. 343 is the hardest class I've taken, you need to buy his notes to pass. He is very accessible outside of class and helpful. His exams are all written format, no MC, and are difficult. He wants to prepare students for CPA properly. Start group assignments early as they are both very time consuming.
Really good professor however his online D2L are brutal. They aren't fully testing our knowledge and just rewards students who are good at copying and pasting in excel. His class averages are also some of the lower in accounting.
Wayne is great at explaining concepts. The course itself is very challenging but Wayne provides plenty of examples and practice problems. His notes are definitely necessary for passing this course.
Wayne is a great ACCT prof. His classes are hard but you will understand the material very well. He wants all his students to succeed. There are 2 group projects - pretty brutal, expect to spend a few hours on each. The weekly quizzes are fine, midterm is pretty hard. Very assessible outside of class, and he has great feedback for you to improve.
He might have been great in person but online Wayne has made the course impossible. The workload is understandable since its such an important class but the structure of the quizzes and exams as fill in the blanks is ridiculous. He raves about CPA and prepping for it but what CPA exam is fill in the blanks. So ridiculous. Refrain from 343 online.
I read his notes, attended all the lectures, and did his course guideline practice questions and got an A (no textbook used). He curved both his midterm and final. Not including lecture time, I spent about 7-10 hrs each week studying, which is reasonable for the hardest acct course in Haskayne. Put in some effort and you'll do well in the course.
I found Wayne to be just okay. He makes everything harder than it should be and can be quite intimidating to the point that students are scared to ask questions because he can be condescending sometimes. The assignments, quizzes, exams, and the course in general are very stressfull and exam averages are always below 70%.
Usually i am an A- student, but 343 with Wayne is the hardest thing ive ever taken and I will likely end up barely passing. The guy knows his stuff but everything is just unnecessarily difficult, to the point that the smartest people i know are getting bad grades. He makes me want to not be in accounting, would avoid.
Wayne is organized and knows his stuff but takes things way too far. Way too many deliverables for one class and tough quizzes and assignments. Extremely low class averages as well. Honestly would take any accounting prof over him as you will get a much better mark. He replies quickly to emails but overall just a nightmare of a prof.
Acct 343 with Wayne was one of the hardest courses in my degree, however, Wayne gave out a really good note package and in-class examples that helped a lot. He takes the course very seriously and gives out a ton of quizzes and assignments, but it does prep you for the CPA. I never used the textbook and just did all of his course guide problems.
This class will be the hardest course you take. But if you go to class and do the practice questions you should do decently well. Wayne is the best prof I have ever had, he's been teaching for a long time and is very good at his job. He actually prepares you for the work place. If you can, only take this class with Wayne.
You are expected to show up to class if you truly want to succeed. You must come prepared for class by reading the textbook and his class notes (his notes are superb). Class time is spent doing many examples which is very helpful. If you care about being well prepared for the CFE exam I suggest taking courses with Wayne. One of the best!
If Wayne taught every accounting course, I might actually understand accounting. He's the best for a reason just take his course seriously and you should do fine. Also, pray that you get good groupmates on the 3 assignments (especially the 2nd one). Best accounting prof hands down
Wayne is definitely the best accounting prof in Haskayne! He answers questions fast and is always there to support you. This class is a challenge but he marks really fair.
Best accounting teacher at U of C. You do have to put a lot of time outside of class to suceed. Literally don't fall behind because it is hard to catch up. Wayne sets you up for success by being available and giving you material that is representative to the graded deliverables. His lectures are actually entertaining too!
Good prof, good notes, and very responsive. He really knows his stuff and marks fast! He asks for way too many deliverables though, very hard to balance other classes with all the things he wants you to do.
I took ACCT 343 in Fall 2022 with Professor Wayne. The class was hard as it's obviously an intermediate financial accounting class but he puts in a lot of effort for his students. He provides a lot of resources and his own set of notes which is the only reason I got through the class. He is super accessible outside the class. Absolute star.
Wayne is the most iconic accounting profs at UofC. He teaches really well and actually makes this class enjoyable. It is one of the hardest classes you will take but if you consistently put in the work and go to his office hours, you'll get a good grade. He curves since the averages are usually pretty low.
343 is a very hard class.. Wayne is a great prof. Provides by far the most notes, practice problems and resources to succeed out of any prof I've had so far at the U of C. Lectures are useful and allow you to have a deeper understanding of each chapter as opposed to just going over surface notes that are in the textbook.
Very knowledgeable but someone should tell him that there is more to life than just accounting. His work load is extraterrestrial. He must understand that dropping a course or two, or quitting jobs in order to fulfill his expectations and meet his deliverables is not an option for all students. The amount of stress he puts on students is illegal.
343 itself has heavy content, but Wayne teaches it in a way that makes it easier to understand. The content can be difficult, but if you do the course guide questions, in class examples and assignments, it will help. He also replies to emails very quickly, and is accessible outside of class hours.
Giving Wayne anything but a five feels wrong, because he cares a lot about his students. He is accessible outside of class and gives us lots of resources to succeed in addition with good humour. When it comes to the course, this class is no joke. A bunch of deliverables that will take up all your time. Make sure you are always on top of things GL
Accounting is a really hard course but Wayne made it a lot easier. He had great examples and was always available for help outside of class. You definitely need to study but he is pretty clear of his expectations and what will be on the exam.
You would be hard pressed to find a worse professor. Most profs at UofC teach by uploading PowerPoint slides, going over the slides and letting students work through examples then explaining them. All Irvine did every class was rush through an excel sheet, no pp, little explanation. Half the class failed the first midterm as a result.
Wayne is the grand daddy of the accounting majors at UofC, he is the one and true god at teaching and that's on period.
ACCT343 with Wayne is no joke, but he's an excellent prof who cares a lot about his students. His class is tough, but attending, doing practice questions, and using study tools like Unstuck ai make it manageable. Worth the effort.
The exam is hard .
Wayne cares a lot about the quality of his classes, and goes as far as teaching his own tutorials, bringing in recruiters from firms, and giving many assessments throughout the semester to make falling behind not an option. Get ready to work hard, and you'll learn lots if you can keep up with all the deliverables.
He's a great prof and the class is doable. Only thing is that he can come off as condescending sometimes, and expects you to know certain things as he rushes very fast during his lectures. Other than that, his exams, assignments, quizzes and other assessments are very fair, and you can definitly do well if you put in the effort!
This is my 3rd degree at UofC and Wayne is by far the best prof I have crossed paths with. He cares about his students very much. This class is not easy, especially if you are new to accounting but Wayne is there to help his students all the way. His exams/quizzes are pretty hard. He has a funny story for almost every class!
GET HIM BEFORE HE RETIRES!!!!
LITERALLY THE GOAT!!!
5 stars as an accounting prof, but if he was an intro prof he would be 1 star because he is tough. But he really cares about you and your career, as an accounting student I'm super grateful. I'll be clear, there is a textbook, but don't get it. It could help but not worth $80. Understand the material before class. Classes simply enhance knowledge.
Wayne is an AWESOME prof!! He has tons of relevant experience and makes an effort to encourage his students to break into the accounting world through career events. The course content is challenging, but attending Wayne's lectures solidifies understanding, thanks to his passion for the content. If you have the chance, take a course with him!
Honestly, one of the best professors I have ever had made 341 much easier than I thought it would be. An incredibly difficult class made simple by an amazing professor.
