He's a pretty cool professor, and funny. About 5 papers to write the whole semester.
Good Professor. Funny, interesting, knows what he is talking about and is willing to drop the midterm or paper if you negotiate with him! Not bad to look at either!
Very knowledgeable, skilled and respectable professor. He is a fair grader as long as he sees that you put effort into your work.
Well this professor is hard at times, he is very helpful and infomative with vast amounts of english literature
He's not easy, awesome to listen to -- his classes were my favorite. The dumb thing to do is to start babbling before you had a chance to think about what you want to say. Comments, like your papers, better have a strong point. Moreland rocks.
Moreland is probably the best Eng Prof i've ever had. You will learn so much from any of his classes. He is extremely knowledgeable on everything and knows when you are bsing.Hes always there for students who need help and hes a very fair grader.
Horrible Professor, unhelpful and unclear. talked about other useless rubbish instead of the text.
It was fun to be in his class. My writing has improved and he appreciates a show of improvement. Even if you dont have his class, he is still willing to help you with your english papers. His papers are fair. Lets just say i had him twice. Now you choose!
Horrible Teacher doesnt listen to a wrod you say. And is a really bad grader beware. Class was also boring.
Wow, he might seem sort of hard at first, but he's just REALLY smart (Colombia Graduate) and he's helpful with your papers. He knows his stuff and he's interesting-I liked his course a lot!
He was never clear in what he was expecting from the students. Very disorganized, took forever to return papers. If you could kiss ass well, you will do well in his class but, if your like me and dont like to kiss, ass you well have a hard time. Not Recom

He's such a good professor and he teaches from the heart.
Moreland was wonderful. Very funny and extremely knowledgeable. My favorite Professor by far.
Hes a good prof. His class doesnt make my head hurt.He wants u to participate & theres not much written work.U should keep up with the reading.Hes very understandable & he makes it enjoyable.U'll like his class
He's really funny and smart. Not that hard but there is a lot of reading.
uch. so boring and so hard. he gave-and i am NOT exaggerating-70 to 100 pages a night to read in a summer class. he was a really tough grader and i did not like his style of teaching. yeah he's smart but that didnt help me understant what he was talking about.
Nice guy but not teaching material. Disorganized and he doesn't have a lot to say. Mostly a bunch of "You know...." Very picky about papers.
Cool cat. He's often deemed disorganized and criticized for his teaching ability because students too often expect answers to be handed to them. Moreland encourages you to think for yourself and consider all possibilities of whatever you're reading, not just regurgitate the text.
nastiest prof ever.horrible, mean. degrades all. wants you to comment but when you do, he makes fun of you. worst prof in entire school. stay away, only take him if you want your gpa to drop.
Tough guy on the outside ,soft on the inside --really wants to help his students
Moreland seems intimidating, but he's not really that bad. His lectures are interesting and he gets the class involved. He is a fair grader and lets you re-write papers. He gives a lot of reading, but I have missed a lot of it. You usually only need to read the material for his papers.
he needs a vacation. i think he hates his students or his job. he choices for books are excellent, he probably didn't pick them
Professor Moreland is amazing. He is an absolutely wonderful teacher who appreciates students' hard work. He wants you to dig deep into the readings that he gives you. He actually sits there and takes his time explaining issues to you. He has big heart for his students. Moreland wants you to think.
he sits and asks are there any questions, then if there aren't any, he gets pissed off. when you do ask a question, he looks at you like you asked the stupidest question. don't take this class.
all the good reviews must be fixed, they must be from moreland.
he is brilliant, one of the smartest profs in the entire college!!! class is very entertaining, and you learn a lot. i only wosh he taught more classes for non majors!! highly recommeneded!!
He is a great teacher! You have to work hard on your papers and they aren't easy, but he is very helpful and answers all your questions.
I had him twice and he never lets me down. This professor is the best I've seen at QC thus far. He really knows his stuff and he's really interesting to listen to- a funny guy! At the least you will enjoy lectures. Papers can be tough, but he's willing to help you out. Definitely tAke him!
He is horrible, he was **** on the final. He doesn't help at all. he only cares about his own opinions he laughs at yours. the people who gave good commetns must had been **** also. i did all the work and read every single story and i got D, JUST DON'T TAKE HIM. he messed up my GPA. i hate him.
Still in his class, but love him! Don't fail to take his class b/c of poor comments on this site. Great personality, fun, fair grader, very helpful, challenging- material is great!
He is great. He says it like it is. If you don't have a thick skin, he isnt for you. The material he covers is really interesting and he provides a lot of feedback on your papers. He is real funny and makes the 3 hour lecture fly by. I would definitely take him again.
he is a very funny guy, who if you have any questions would be gladly to help you, and the papers that we have to hand in, are very easy, he explains with clarity what he reads and you'll never get bored with the class.
Such a good class!! I would take him again.
he has a gr8 sense of humor and is a really nice guy. lets you rewrite for a better grade even though you prob wont need it. explains very clearly wat each paper is about. i def want to take him again! o ya and he has a kick ass afro!!
HES the best No doubt .... wish all my profesors were like him
One of the greatest professors in QC. If you ever have an opportunity to take his class do so. I agree with previous commentary hes wonderful but if you are not willing to be responsible and open minded then youll totally miss the experience.
Entertaining and easy. Enjoyed his discussions of Frost and Dickinson. I hardly read and skipped a bunch of classes, yet somehow managed to get an A-. Course work consists of a few short papers and a final.
Great sense of humor and easy going. Just make sue you do the work!
great prof. great sense of humor. totally hot.
Madd cool dude. Not a stickler. Easy-going. Make sure u do the work. Good debater. (lol) I had a lot of fun in his class. He's a funny guy.
Awsome Guy!! Some of the best class discussions I have every had in a college classroom. Keep up with the readings, if not for anything else, but to be able to engage in the class discussion.
Professor Moreland is an extremely nice guy. Class discussions are enjoyable. He chooses interesting authors and the reading is fun. He is also very helpful. NO MIDTERM. 2/3 papers and a final exam. He tells you exactly what would be on the finals. He just wants to know that you have some understanding of the reading.
Everyone else seems to like him, but most of the people who had him this year found him very vague and unhelpful. He is a very tough grader, and many people in the class had to re-do their papers. When you ask him to explain a paper topic, he says that we "better do it right," but never explains what "right" means. His lectures are also very boring
He's vague but if you do the reading you'll understand what's going on. Should have had class read the literary theory on writers first for better understanding of the texts. Personable and middle of the road grader. Readings are very informative and interesting.
One of the best ENG professors I have taken at QC. His lectures are interesting and he basically wants to know that you have some interest in the class. Even if you are a shy person, you would feel comfortable to participate in class discussions. He tells you exactly what he wants on the paper and what to expect on the final exam.
The worst professor i have ever taken in QC. Maybe in the past he was good, but now things have changed. He comes into class with a nasty attitude and threatens to give us a midterm we will all fail if no one particpates. But the reason ppl are afraid to speak up is that if you don't interpert things the way he sees it then you are wrong.
he wasnt the greatest, but hes good...i actualy got a B in the end when i didnt do so great on the papers...got like a C, C- then a B-....and i didnt participate that much...but hes not as bad as everyone says hes actually a cool guy
i've had him 2 times and i just love him! all you have to do is the reading and 3 papers and a final. he's very intelligent and will give you so much insight. i feel like ive learned more from him than all of my profs here combined! you will def learn, and it will def be interesting. he may seem intimidating but such a cool prof :]
Im taking him right now, he seems pretty easy, 5 papers, not necessarily long for all 5. skips class once in a while... funky hair and class is not boring. he's good

A cool teacher, he can be somewhat sarcastic but he knows his stuff. I took him twice.
He is amazing, taking him again in the future. He is funny, charming and extremely intelligent, everything that comes out of his mouth is worth listening to, it pays off at the end of it all. His class one of the best experiences i've had at QC yet!
Amazing, brilliant Professor -do yourself a favor and take at least one class with him. Caring and super cool, he gives a unique important perspective on the reading material, which can be extremely complex. Easy to talk to and goes out of his way to help you understand the ideas presented in the text. always available to speak with students.
One of the naturally smartest people that i've ever had the pleasure of conversing with. An excellent professor. I highly recomend taking his classes.
The man is a god.
finally, a real professor. probably the nicest and most caring professor who has a genuine interest in his students. he's not a cake walk but his class kicks all the other professors'
Professor is clear, detailed and humorous! During the semester we read approximately 6 novels and did three papers, very fair coursework! Highly recommeneded!
I want to have his babies!
I love him. By far, he is the best professor in Queens College, period. Extremely intelligent, fair coursework. Read about 6 books, three papers. He's amazing. I definitely intend to take him again, and you should too!!
Best professor on Queens Campus. He is totally down to earth and speaks in a language that everyone will understand (not like other professors who talk like students are inferior). His coursework is rather easier than expected. Definitely recommend and will enjoy having him as my professor again!
Professor Moreland is one of the best professors at QC. He is funny, down to earth and extremely smart and witty. I would defenitely take him again. Coursework is fair and he makes the subject very interesting.
Very disappointed in this prof! He doesn't respect your opinions and is very blunt about flaunting his own, which are never clear anyway! He looks for very specific readings, although he is pretty fair about grading. Mostly he'll just deject you in front of your peers. Complains no one participates, but is it any wonder?
My first C ever in my major. He grades you on one paper and this is a writing intensive course. he is lazy and doesn't like to give any work because he doesnt want to grade it! but will give you a C. He is absent whenever he feels like it and sends no emails.Doesn't have respect for his students' opinions and will fail you without even warning you.
I'm currently taking him right now, and I have to say that his teaching skills in my opinion are unprofessional. My reasons for saying so is because he'll deject a student right in front of there peers, he'll make you feel like your incompetent of being an English Major. Just do yourselves the favor, and don't take him.
Gets class to participate under threat of extra exams. Was absent twice with no warning, no email, nothing-- a drag considering I traveled to QC from another borough and it was freezing outside. However, the class discussion is very interesting, he likes engaging w/you if you really stand behind what you're saying.
The funniest and most sarcastic prof I've met so far. The guy knows his stuff and then some. Gives anecdotal stories that help with understanding key points of the text. Great class, great prof
He cancels class a lot and lets us out early a lot. If this is the kind of the semester you want go for it, but you won't really learn anything. His assignments are really vague which is frustrating. There were a few papers
His class was alright, cancels class a lot. Doesn't really interact with all of his students.
Tough but fair. Encourages class discussion and participation. Does tend to look for particular interpretations but if you can defend your POV, you are fine. Expects reading/writing on college level, shock, awe! If you cannot use grammar, you will fail. Allows rewrites of papers (of which there are ~3) and does make-up. Great guy. Taking him again!
We had to read 8 books during the semester. Three papers that get harder as you go because he expects more detail of analysis and more sources as well. I'm not even an English major so it was an annoying class to me but I did learn. An intelligent girl in my class told me she felt like she learned absolutely nothing though so who knows.
Moreland admonishes students for not reading thoroughly, but frequently flakes out and doesn't show up for class. His severely grades papers without adequate explanation. He is insulting and demeaning toward students to the point they are in fear of asking questions. He garbles his words and is difficult to understand. I regret taking his class.
Great guy, taking him again! Nice, friendly, lets you rewrite papers, gives second chances. He has a great heart, awesome professor!
awesome professor. doesnt always attend class. very humorous. easy grader. just do the reading and youll get good grade
he's very complex. he demands you have an opinion and forces you to really think about what you're reading on a deeper level which is good. but he's a harsh grader when it comes to essays and like to give random test when he feels like the class is slacking
This guy had me laughing so hard in class. He is such an OG. Very intelligent. He is sort of a tough grader, my first B+ as an English major but he thinks a B is a good grade -_- He is sort of intimidating. But I would take him again, just participate and do the readings. His papers are sort of difficult though but the class itself is laid back.
You will never doze off during Moreland's lecture; he has a great sense of humor. He's a tough grader so make sure you know exactly what he wants your papers to include. Ton's of reading and two papers. Do the readings, participate, and put effort into your papers and you'll do well.
Moreland is a fun guy. But he's very unmotivated, he's teaching because he has to. He seems more interested in his own studies (Afro-Amer Lit, taking him again this semester). Be sure to participate and actually know how to write papers. He seems to play devil's advocate when it comes to discussing one's own points, but it does allow insight.
I'd what these other people are complaining abut. This man is a great professor and person. He shouldn't be demeaned for challenging you. I learned a lot in his class and got a few jokes on the way.
The worst teacher I have had ever in all my life. The entire grade depended on one paper which he did not give an outline for. He never "had time" to speak after class and never responded to emails. HORRIBLE!!!
Professor Moreland is an OK professor. His grade relies on ONE paper. He does take attendance, and he does want you to participate in class. I really didn't learn much and didn't have any desire to attend/participate in class, but I passed. He does expect you to do work... just like any other professor. Overall, he's kind and funny
Very unprofessional, abrasive, and all over the place when it comes to the readings and overall requirements for the class. He cancels class frequently yet berates students for not having perfect attendance. His syllabus is vague and his "lectures" are just tangential ramblings of his own thoughts with no real concise input. Would not recommend.
He''s a pretty laid-back guy. Sometimes when he talks to you it sounds like he''s putting you on the spot. if you don''t read hell give a pop quiz which is almost impossible to pass. he''s very hard to understand when he speaks and sometimes doesn''t even show up to class. He grades off two papers which are pretty long but isn''t clear on what he wants
great guy very funny took his class last semester. you just have to do the readings and participate a good amount. make him learn your name and youll do great as long as you can write a decent paper.
Didn't teach at all the entire semester. I didn't learn anything. Your entire grade is 2 papers and attendance. What a terrible waste of time.
Worst English class I have ever taken. The books he chose were interesting but his lectures aren't planned out or clear, overall a mess. Such a tough grader on the 2 essays he assigns and expects them to be long because apparently 45 pages isn't enough but for the lack of knowledge we learned in class is hard to write a 10+ paper. Don't take him!
Professor Moreland is an extremely educated man but he uses his education in many fields to create a funny and energetic environment within the classroom. There was a dull moment, always laughing and learning in his class. I would definitely take him again if I have the chance.
Hes not a bad professor. Your papers have to make sense to him. He breaks down the readings and always ask you questions to make sure you understand. Hes a little intimidating at first but overall its not a bad class.
Really Nice Guy, Pretty Bad Professor. he is hilarious during the hour he has for class, but I never feel as though i'm learning anything about writing or even the books we've been assigned. If you must take a writing intensive class for the credits, this isn't the worst, but certainly not the best.
Professor Moreland is a great professor! I will admit he may come off as a bit brash when you first meet him but he has an opinion and is very insightful. He makes you really think about the readings and challenges you to form a clear, strong point of view. He has a laid back attitude when it comes to teaching. Just do the work!
Awesome professor.
Great professor. Very freindly, knows a lot. The books are intersting. No quizzes, but if he feels you don't read he will give quizzes. A lot he goes off topic. Really enjoyed my timed in this class
He's hilarious but pretty intimidating. He'll put you down with no care at all. I didn't like him. I struggled a lot. He expects so much from his papers but he puts little to no care in explaining how it should be done.
I love him!
Quite intimidating, but a good professor nonetheless. Tough grader, but don't be afraid to ask for help or clarification. No tests unless he feels like you aren't reading. Humor can be tough to digest, but he's not REALLY mean. A lot of work, but worth it. Would take again!
Prof. Moreland is that man. He made class enjoyable and funny. Just be prepared to read.
I've taken Moreland for a couple of classes and enjoyed all of them. The readings he assigns are amazing. He is a tough grader, but if you show up on time, participate, and put effort into your papers you'll do fine. He's funny and relaxed, but don't mistake that for an easy A. It's clear he loves literature, I deff recommend him for Eng. majors.
Super down to earth and curses you will def pass BUT if your like me and like to get As he will not give it to you no matter what. Only Bs. A lot of reading but overall cool and fun doesn't feel like class
Wayne Moreland is a great professor. He cares about his students and he is a funny guy. I had a good time writing narratives and poems in his class. The group workshops were fun as well. You must take creative writing with him -- you won't regret it! :D
Insightful and hilarious guy. There's plenty of reading but what else do you expect from an english class? No tests unless he feels like you don't read so either participate or prepare to fail the quiz. His papers aren't easy, but he isn't unreasonable. If you go to his office he will help. Honest and down to earth. Looks like Morgan Freeman too.
Took him before and hes always a pleasure to listen to in class about the books we read in class. Very nice guy, would take again
He's definitely very passionate, sometimes so passionate that he'll yell at someone in class if they're not listening to him, and he gives a lot of homework. As in, five + poems over the span of a week & poetry responses. Additionally, 40% of your grade is based on participation. I don't recommend him for everyone, just those w/ a light sched.
If you do not like to participate, do not take him. He's reasonable and honestly, hilarious. His classes do not feel like classes, rather jokes and discussing the books. His readings are fun- but his papers are tough. He's a reasonable grader. Participate, show that you care about the class, and you'll have a chill class. He's a chill guy.
Be ready to read and to participate. Other than participation there are only 3 papers to make up your grade. That being said, if that's okay with you his class is great. He loves to joke around, but you can tell he also really cares about the material and you'll learn a lot. He can be a little intimidating, but he's really a good guy. Take him!
Moreland is a great professor. I took him twice, purposefully, and enjoyed the class and content both times. He'll also help you meet people in the department, he literally took me around the English dept. and introduced me to people. He'll also help you with your writing outside of his class. Great guy and definitely worth taking at least once.
In a world where most professors stray away from the meat of what studying literature is, Professor Moreland presents the opportunity to really just confront the materials in and of themselves with no extraneous agendas to be accounted for. He is a relaxed guy, hilarious and certainly creates the proper environment for enjoying works of art.
Professor Moreland is a funny guy, but a tough grader, honestly he wants you to write what he has in mind, otherwise he considers it "inaccurate or "wrong". Not terrible but def would not retake him
Really funny to take, very fun to listen to. All you have to do is read, talk in class, and then do the papers. Very worth your time.
Honestly Professor Moreland is the best professor I've had at Queens College so far
Professor Moreland is a really good English professor. We often had really interesting class discussions about the pieces we've read. All you need to do is participate and read what he assigns and you'll be fine !
really liked him. lots of reading but his discussions are so interesting. very funny, genuinely cares. good guy, very up-front, it can seem like a lot at first. he always assigns good readings. take him if you can
He is a great professor, took him for intro to poetry. He is strict with deadlines, so make sure to give in your work at the right time. His humor makes class enjoyable.
Professor Moreland is pretty chill and hilarious one thing is that you'll never be bored in his class. he's pretty chill doesn't assign a lot of work but he does assign essays which there's a page limit but its pretty easy. you don't need to buy the text you can find all poem online on google. overall pretty chill would take him again
He kick us out of the class after 10 minutes it started bc not many people was participating. A guy tried to participate twice and didn't let him even talk. Always arrives late to class. Pop up quizzes. Lots of readings.
Very old school. 2 papers for the whole semester, minimum 6 pages for each. He did take attendance for every class so I'm not sure if that really counted towards our overall grade. Multiple books you will need to read and know for the class and the papers. Thought I did well overall but I ended with a C+ which kinda killed my GPA. :\
Pretty sure he retired last semester but I thought he was pretty good. YOU GOTTA READ AND PARTICIPATE. Absolutely vital to the class. When the momentum was there, the discussions on the books were pretty interesting.
He is super fun! super fair! and has a lot of experience in teaching. He will meet you where you're at, and has incredible stories, TAKE HIM BEFORE HE RETIRES!
He makes class fun. You have to actually read the books and have something in mind for the class. He evaluates if you actually read the books and your critical thinking. The questions asked in class are difficult but that is because the subject matter is complex. He is retiring at the end of this semester. He was a great professor.
