You either love this class or you hate it, but I think he's a great teacher. Very few assignments and the tests are difficult, but he gives very useful study guides. He's very knowledgable and very interested in the subject. Highly recommended.

I learned more in these classes than I did in most others combined. Sometimes lectures are sleep-inducing, but overall he is so passionate and knowledgable that he keeps you engaged with the material and actually teaches you what you need to know if you go on to study more Anthro.

Taking this class was pretty rewarding. Prof Olts lectures made me care about the subject matter.Make sure to read all the material.Also what helped me the most was taking the online quizes in preparation for the tests.

mr. olts is so passionate about anthropology, his enthusiasm becomes contagious. he prepared our class for tests with clear review sheets and spent an entire class period before tests answering questions. anthro is not an easy subject, but working hard in this class will be very rewarding. i strongly recommend taking mr. olts.

Take notes and do the reading. That is really all there is to it. In Mr. Olts’ class we were tested on two midterms and a final. There is no fluff or easy stuff to push up your grade. Either you know it when test time comes or you don’t, and if you don’t take notes and stay on top of the reading, you are toast. I enjoyed his lectures though.

Olts is a great teacher! All you have in his class are 2 midterms and a final! No other work! Also he offers extra credit, which can really boost your grade if you need it! I got in A in this class by studying for the tests and doing some extra credit! Take this class!

It's very important to do the reading since at least half of the test material will come from the text, the other half can be from lectures or in class films so good attendance is advised as well.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND professor olts. He is so insightful and passionate about what he teaches. I have never had a professor that I admired as much as him. I am now attending CSUS and the professors don't even compare to him. If you have any interest in anthropology then take one or even all of his classes. I wish I would have taken more.

Olts is pretty much awesome.He's very passionate about the subject and his knowledge makes the class even more fascinating. I've taken two classes from him so far and will keep going back. Usually you are graded on 2 midterms and a final and as long as you have read and understand the material you are guaranteed a B.

I really liked his calss. His lectures are interesting and really helps put the world into perspective. Tests are very fair - just read the readings and look up the words he assigned and you will get a decent grade. Homework in his class is pretty easy. Everyone should take this class. You will learn a lot.

Olts is crazy, but crazy in a good way. I took Anthro 330 (magic, witchcraft, and religion.) It's some crazy stuff, but he explains it very well, and very thoroughly. Lots, and lots of reading, but I recommend. He is a HOTTY

Amazing teacher. he is very passionate about his work and humans as a whole. He requires basicaly no assignments, save for two easy ones. The midterms and the final are quite hard though. A lot of the book is in on tests. His class was the highlight of my day.

Took two of his classes, 300 and 310 and I loved them. Very stressful though when it comes time to take and study for the midterms and final but it is a great class, taught by a great teacher. Olts is one of those professors that will inspire you regardless of your major. He is an amazing teacher and everyone does their best in his class out of respect for him.

He is incredibly articulate in is lectures and knows the material extremely well. He makes it so interesting that you want to change your major. He is freakin Gandolf! I want to adopt him as my grandpa! Although study and read..which is not hard and rather interesting and he gives you study guides and goes over it before the test.

Took it out of curiosity because of title-Magic, Witchcraft and Religion. Serious Anthro! He is SO passionate about his work that he gets the student excited. Excellent instructor. Proceeded to take every other class I could with him!

Mr. Olts is the kind of teacher that makes you feel priveledged to be attending a junior college. It all is worth it just to have the opportunity to establish a scholarly relationship with such a brilliant and passionate educator. I highly recommend taking as many classes with him as possible.

Mine was a very interesting class with lots of practical applications. I found myself cross-referencing all the info I learned in this class into scenarios in my daily life and it was enlightening. He grades on very few points so tests are a big deal. He gives 2 mdtrms 3 qzzs and a final and two class projects with tons of xTRA crdt offered

What an amazing teacher! He is awesome but the class is tough! Shows great videos, tells amazing stories, and lectures on WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW! I attended a lot at first, got an A on the first test. Stopped going as often and got a D on the second test. Your attendance is directly correlated with your grade! GO TO HIS CLASS AND ENJOY IT! also hot!

I took both Anth300 & 310 and loved them both. He is quite possibly one of the most interesting men on Earth. The life stories that he has are mind blowing and it is clear that he is truly passionate about the subject. The midterms take effort, but are straightforward cuz he gives you study guides with everything you need to know beforehand.

Prof. Olts is probably my favorite prof in the Los Rios District. He has great personal experiences that are applicable to the lessons. He doesn't do anything through D2L or powerpoint, so make sure you have good notes for the exams since the exams can be fairly difficult. Attendence is mandatory, but he makes it enjoyable to avtually show up.

Lots of reading. Cool guy, sounds like Nicholas Cage. Not an easy class if you don't like to read a lot about anthropology. It was boring, and it was not uncommon to see people sleeping when we watched videos. His voice is very monotone and it is easy to not pay attention. If you do all the reading, you should do fine, though.

I found him to be a little ranty during lectures. Sometimes it was interesting, but sometimes it felt like he wouldn't listen to a student's perspective because he had to prove his point. He grades the homework a little hard, but the tests are easy. You get the study guide ahead of time. Not many points available in the class so make sure to study.

Professor Olts is by far my favorite teacher in the district. I've taken him for Cultural Anthro (Anthro 310) and now Magic Religion and Witchcraft (Anthro 330). He shows interesting films and I very much enjoy his personal life experiences he ties into lectures. He is an extremely intelligent, sexy, witty, and wonderful man. He's a must take!

I really liked Olts. As long as you keep up with all of the reading and don't procrastinate you will do fine. It's a lot to read but just keep on top of it. I took two classes from him. His class is an easy A as long as you study and do the readings. A lot of it is lecture and in class discussion. Other students can be annoying, but he has a lot of interesting stories to tell and he is a nice guy. The films he shows are really boring sometimes, but he doesn't give homework so it balances things out.

Prof Olts is one of the best and inspiring teachers at FLC. He makes you want to come to class. Not only do you learn the requires subject manner but you learn about your self.

Too bad the class doesn't include a rite of passage simulation or a spirit journey, because that's about all that was missing. There's a lot of reading to do; however, the readings are all interesting and you will learn a lot. I loved Professor Olts because every time i spoke to him he was very understanding, open minded, and honest. I felt very comfortable around him and he was very nice. He is crystal clear about things and there are 3 exams and 3 quizzes. Good luck!

Brilliant professor. He is what I imagine a UC professor to be like. He is the most intelligent professor I have encountered at FLC. If I didn't have time constraints and mandatory classes to take I would take every class he teaches, so far I have had 2 with him and loved every minute of it. Wonderful human being.

Take notes, read the assigned readings and there is no way to get a bad grade. I often don't like to read assigned material but everything he assigns is captivating and time flies when you read it. Best professor I have had in college thus far.

Honestly my favorite professor I've had so far! He's very passionate about anthropology and clearly knows what he's talking about. Many of the historic anthropologists he teaches about he has actually met. As long as you keep up on the reading, actually go to class, and study the study guides he gives before the exams you'll easily get an "A"

It was a pleasure for me to have Prof. Olts as a teacher. He has many fascinating stories to tell--time seems to fly by in his Cultural Anthropology class. He is very knowledgeable about his subject, and as he often says, is "not in the business of tricking you". True to his words, the test questions are just like the material on the study guides.

Professor Olts is beyond passionate about the subject and that reflects really well in the way he teaches the class. You do need to read the book for the very few tests. There are no surprises in his class he lets you know everything super far in advance. Also he is just a good guy with a good story to tell.

Professor Olts' anthropology 310 class was very informative and an easy class to pass. Olts does an excellent job of presenting the topics while keeping his own beliefs out of the picture. He doesn't force his beliefs on others, he simply presents the topic at hand and encourages students to make their own discoveries. Academically- easy class.
