THis guy is a bit easier than Watson and Zavitsas. Very helpful if you don't get something and overlook one bad exam if you do well on the final. Also cracks jokes when he teaches so the material is not that dry. This is the choice for organic.
This professor is not so easy, but will stay in office for hours to help you. Not so clear with teaching, but will overlook bad test grades if you do well on final
Though not an analytical professor, he did manage to teach the important concepts that a chemist is required to know. He gives a lot of quizzes and it helps prepare for the final, but I think giving 13 quizes is considered murder.
He is unclear on his lectures but he is a very nice man. He gives many chances to receive a good grade in class. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
He's the most confusing prof in the whole LIU campus...good exams but bad bad lectures...I'd take Arafat/zavistas on any given day
I took him in the summer because I was told he was easy. For those of you who can handle someone who has no interest in teaching he is fine, his exams are from the book. But those who need a teacher and cannot just grill over the book, he is HORRIBLE. I dropped him and took Waston for 121/122 both A
mad easy. very helpful. very lenient.
he is a very helpful man. he gives students a lot of chances to get high grades. i took him for organic 1 and i got an A. although he is not clear in his lectures, he helps you if u need help. u just need to read the book. do not depend on his notes.
One of the best LIU chem teacher in the campus. He teachs alot and you learn alot. This makes you get your moneys worth. He probably gets the most office hours. He treats his students with respect and he should be well respected.
He def better than Shredkinsky and he may give you chances to pull up grades, but he can be hard. Don't take him for summer session, he can give you an F or D even if you worked hard. Watson is good, but I really don't like Organic profs at LIU, they can hurt chances of getting into already painstaking process of rx school.
great prof..very fair and respectful learned alot..always willing to help..as usual organic is tough and hes tests are hard so u have to study and read a lot on your own some of his lecture material is unclear but always willing to clarify something or help with any questions..overall great professor doesnt try to scare you like some of the others
he is nice but his exams are hard. You have to study on your own but he helps you if u need help. He is better than other proffesors at liu. Just read book and do all the problems.
This professor is always willing to help if you come and ask for it. He is a tough grader though! will take off sooo many points for stupid things! Better than other orgo professors at LIU but still hard. His tests can be tricky but they are pretty similar to the practice ones hes gives. Just do your best and study a lot and youll get like a B.
very good professor..very fair always willing to help..although difficult you will be happy you worked so hard in the end definitly recommended!!
This professor is the best in LIU for organic!!! No one else is better! Not Watson Not arafat not pasternack no one!!!! schnatter is the nicest best teacher there is for organic!!! He doubles the grade on the final and he will overlook some bad exams! he is really awesome.
He is OK when it comes to tests and quizzes. He IS THE BEST this school has to offer for Organic. Doubling your final grade is complete BS. He does not, and furthermore, he doesn't curve everyone. If your failing he will most likely give you a C, if you put in an effort! A B- for him is a good grade, if HE thinks your doing good, he won't see th
He is the best Organic professor at LIU. I was a freshman when I took his class and I got an A. He is a cool and helpful professor. He always finds time to help people even if he is really busy.
This professor is extremely fair. Everyone should stop complaining if you do bad he gives you a good grade if you try you get a bad grade. Shut up honestly He gives everyone what they deserve that's it no if and's or but's. Do this get all your test's and quizzes average them all up..look at the rubric and that's your grade..
Wayne is the by far the best professor I've had at LIU. His knowledge of organic chemistry is truely astounding and his deep interest in the material shows through his teaching. If you find yourself in one of his sections, consider yourself one of the luckiest orgo students in the school. Yes he's challenging, but you'll learn a tremendous amount!
He really is an amazing professor, VERY helpful, alway's making time for students, tries his best to make sure that you understand!!! Orgo is a hard class, so you have to study! If you don't, it doesnt matter how nice, smart, or anything he is, you wont learn the material. FULLY understand ch. 1,2 & 3!!! if you want an A in the class
Alright, he's definetely the smartest professor at all of LIU. Very clear, but lacks when it comes to notes. You MUST study on your own and don't mess up early. Has a great curve at the end but the tests are extremely, and I mean extremely hard if you don't study for 10 hours on the weekends.
he is damn hard! u have to study by urself. dont take him unless u r damn smart. final is extremely hard! it seems like he makes the final hard on purpose so that everybody fails!
one of the best organic professors. doesnt give notes, dictates a lot, but willing to repeat himself. exams and quizzes are similar to the practice ones that he gives out. very nice man that always offer to help and encourages questions
Too smart to teach. Terrible notes, terrible tests. Thank God for his curve.
Take someone else.
Take him if u want 2 fail..
nice person bad professor too smart makes it overly complicated
Its Organic. There's nothing you can do about it. READ THE BOOK--should be obvious. Dr. Schnatter def. offers the most help out of all the professors, but his lectures arent clear. He summarizes the Rxns/principles on the test & its your job to read the book b4hand. Keep consistency on quiz/tests & do well on the final & your grade will b curved.
he tends to go fast during lectures & assumes the students already grasp the subject covered after 15 min of him teaching it. He does offer a lot of extra help if you're willing to put effort into this class you would be fine. KNOW YOUR MECHANISMS! do not slack! read the book b4 comin to class.
he gives his past exams and quizzes to students so you can practice. Do them but don't memorize them, understand the concept. he usually puts reagants and such that you never saw on an exam he really wants you to understand NOT MEMORIZE. he gives partial credit and extra credit REALLY REALLY HELPS!
Schnat-man is one heck of a professor. He knows the ins-and-outs of what he teaches and is quite humerous at times. He tells you what you need to know so you better attend class and keep your hearing-aids on. Taking notes becomes a hastle at times because he writes all over the board. Just make sure you completely understand what you're learning.
You will have no life trying to read all the chapters of the book. Sheer hell.
Prof Schnatter is probably the hardest organic prof at LIU. His lectures aren't that great so you must study on ure own. His tests/quizzes are very challenging & difficult. He curves as he knows his tests arent easy. You have to put a tremendous amount of effort, orgo isnt easy but schnatter def makes it more challenging than it already is.
He is a hard prof. if you do not know your terminology for organic chemistry you will be lost.you have to read the book b4 you go to class. the one good thing about him is that he gives a lot of extra credit and curves a lot. also a 40 average is a "D" in his class
His teaching leaves a lot to be desired. Compared to other orgo profs' tests, his are ridiculously hard. There is a difference between challenging and going overboard. I had Watson for 122 who was not easy, but he was fair and gave tests on a student's level of understanding. But Schnatter's quizzes are pretty fair and he gives a lot of extra credi
very smart prof whom will make you become a smarter orgo student than others who have taken another prof. Tests and notes are equally important. He loves to throw in few trick questions on tests. Truly understanding the materials is a must to do well in the class. His final is also very important.
One of the best professors at LIU. Yes, his tests are harder than other professors', but that's because he challenges you to think rather than memorize. I can't begin to describe how much easier pharmacy classes are now that I have a solid understanding of organic chemistry. He makes the enormous LIU tuition worth it.
Okay, at the beg of the semester, I thought DAMN, Satan has just won. But now that I got an A, everything is all good. Tests are challenging and he def knows it. The book was my life for 3 months but I must admit that although he is one of the toughest prof at LIU, he is one of the best. He is so difficult that watsob got a quest wrong hahaa
He states from the very 1st day in class that he will do everything he can to make sure you pass. As long as you don't give up, he won't give up. Reading the textbook and doing the problems is a MUST. Didnt get the best grades in his class but ended up with a pretty decent grade.
HE JUST TALKS IN CLASS, AND ITS VERY HARD TO FALLOW HIM, YOU WILL LOSE HIM FAST. READING A BOOK IS A MUST, AND HE DOESN'T PROVIDE NOTES, YOU CAN WRITE YOUR OWN NOTES IN CLASS BUT LOOKING AT THEM LATER YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND IT.I CAN READ THE BOOK ON MY OWN WITHOUT GOING TO COLLEGE! & PAYING 15 GRANT A SEMESTER FOR THIS SCHOOL ISN'T WORTH IT!
This professor seriously is the smartest professor you will ever meet. but he still can't teach he talks and talks nonsense its hard to pay attention
Hes a great teacher, but some tests and quizzes are ridiculously hard.
If you see his name on your schedule, consider yourself blessed. Schnatter will do anything he can to pass you, and his notes are not the best. The extra credit is unbelievable and he is readily available to help...you must read the textbook, he follows page to page. He's the hardest professor in the department, but you will learn so much.
This professor is awesome, but he is difficult. However, he will do anything to pass his students. He gives a lot of extra credit on every single test and/or quizzes he gives. Attending his office hours are helpful. His exams are very hard, but he always likes learning over grades. There are a lot of opportunities to do well in this course.
1. Lectures suck he just talksssss. 2. He will work with you and help you to get to your desire grade. 3. If you do the problems you will pass his class. 4. Quizzes start easy and please take advantage of that, the get hard. 5. I am not good at math and do bad in general chem So I was nervous but if you study, extra study you will be fine.
Very hard professor . Be well prepared for hell !!!!
He is very good professor , you will learn a lot his tests are hard but if you understand material you will be fine . You have to study every week and he is really nice professor he always willing to help during his office hour . He is always there to help his students .
He is an excellent professor. Prepare to work hard. Organic chemistry is not easy and his exams will be easy once you put in the effort to understand the material. He doesn't want to fail anyone he does his best to help you out
Schnatter is a genius and a great professor. His lectures are long and require prior reading but tries his best to help students understand. Office hours are crucial for his class as he will remember you and try to help you get the highest grade possible. To make up for that, 90% of your effort is studying, while 10% is his effort in guiding you.
he's terrible.
Horrible. Will ruin your gpa. Don't make the mistake
His exam are extremely hard, but if you know what's going on in class is super easy, he curves a lot give plenty extra credits, he is the best professor.
he is the hardest professor for Orgo, but if you do the work that's need to be done you will do good. The overall he is the best. Got A
he is horrible he is hard , i would not advice anyone to take him he gave me an B+AND I STUDIED LIKE CRAZY FOR HIS CLASS. HE IS VERY HARD COMPLICATED QUESTIONS TRUST ME YOU WILL SEE.
He's pretty hard, but offers alot of extra credit. He drops the 4 lowest quizzes, and tries to take the highest grade. It's not an easy class, and he expects alot from you, but he does try to help
It's not an easy class, and he expects a lot from you, but he does try to help. He's a hard teacher, but offers a lot of extra credit.
Tests are pretty tough, and the extra credit he gives is not easy to get. He doesn't take attendance, but if you don't show up to them, you'll miss a lot. Probably the hardest orgo teacher, but he teaches the most too.
high standards. there to help you. quizzes like every 2 weeks or something, there is always extra credit but is not easy to figure out. so mainly you wont end up getting it. he wants to see who are the students who thinks beyond.
He's always willing to help, he seems intimidating but he's really trying to give you the highest grade possible. He gives 8 quizzes total and drops your four lowest grades. Although his exams can be a challenge he curves at the end. Best orgo professor at LIU highly recommend him! You'll learn a lot especially if you're a pharmacy major!
Easiest A I have ever received in my life. You should always look for this professor when you are signing up for your classes. Also, sometimes his lectures get so interesting it leaves you hungry for more, however, that is my opinion. He makes you enjoy Orgo as well as enjoy life. It sounds cliche, however it was true for me. Take his class.
VEEEERRRY STRESSFULL CLASS
At first you may think you made a mistake taking him but trust me when i tell you, he offers so much extra credit and is always looking for ways to help you get the best grade possible. It's a hard class without a doubt but if you reread the notes and do the sample quizzes and exams, you will do fine. He is always willing to help if you ask for it.
To get an A: Read orgo a month before school (spring or winter break) and get a head start. Do lots of practice problems and UNDERSTAND mechanisms/rules. DON'T try to memorize, understanding takes more time but will be more worthwhile. Read chapters before lecture so that lecture is simply review. Do practice problems on train. A is guaranteed.
One of the nicest professors you will meet in LIU But he's difficult his test are hell he will give you previous quizzes & exams to study from but theres no point they are not similar in anyway. Yes on a 100 point test you can get up too 80 points in extra credit but when i say impossible he's impossible. organic chemistry will take over your life.
Offers so many sites, sample quizzes/tests, and handouts to help. Orgo is a hard class but Prof. Schnatter offers so many opportunities to get a good grade. Explains very well. Great class if you put in the work orgo requires.
his tests are tough but he offers a lot of extra credit on all of his tests. do his practice quizzes/exams and understand how to get the answer NOT what the answer is. he curves also
He is a genius, will help you till the end as long as you don't give up. Quizzes are straight from the rxns inchapters &fair, gives you 8 youllthank him later trust me. But hiS examsare extremely&I mean extremely hard.U can get mayb 65 points on a100 point test (which is B)anything higher is impossible. His final Was crazyy, THANK GD FOR HIS CURVE
He gives 8 quizzes and 3 tests, and tons of extra credit but the extra credit is impossible. The most you can get out of 100 is maybe 60. You will study for hours and still fail his tests. Luckily enough he curves a decent amount, so that most will pass with a C. I've studied hours upon hours for this class and failed his tests, Stay away.
too smart, too sarcastic, makes everything overly complicated. studied like crazy, but I would take him over Watson anyday.
Read the textbook and use his notes to re-enforce the material. Use his practice quizzes and exams and you will do fine. 8 quizzes, 3 tests, and final. Drops 4 quizzes, which can substitute for exams. He gives lots of opportunity to pass his class bc of all the extra credit. Study hard and you will do fine. He is the best professor for orgo.
easy a for orgo 122! so much extra credit and extra tutoring one on one you cant fail
best professor ever! you will get an A is you do your work. do textbook problems for practice and see him for help and you will get that A. Hes super nice especially in orgo 122! TAKE HIM
best orgo professor in tehe school. super smart and sweet. he is willing to help you and always available in his office. he gives so much extra credit and a huge surve its impossible not to love orgo. he is the best take him!! you will be happy.
The best of the best !
half multiple choice exam and half short answer. people say hes hard but hes not b/c he teaches you only what he expects you to know and gives extra credit. his grading curve is lenient.
luv him
8 quizzes & 4 exams including the final - will drop 4 of your lowest quiz scores. Goes pretty fast so take good notes. Key to doing well is understanding the material. To do that, read the chapter before going to class and ask questions. He will try his hardest to get you to pass but only if you show that you understand what's going on.
nothing to say but that hes the best professor ever! He teaches well and always sticks around to help.
The most helpful professor I have ever had. Does not try to trick you on exams, quizzes are very similar to his exams. His lessons are very helpful but you have to put in as much practice as possible with orgo. I would go to his office hours after every class and he always stopped to help me. I went from a 40 to a A-. Thank you professor Schnatter.
I was doing really bad and failed a lot of exams and went to talk to him. He is so helpful and I ended up doing pretty well. Its not that hes hard , organic chemistry is hard but I recommend him to everyone. Best professor ever! You show him you care, hell show you he cares more. super sweet. best choice for orgo at liu!
Really sweet Professor. I would definitely take him again. He really tries his best to give everyone the best grade possible. Gives you 8 quizzes, counts 4 for the quiz grade but lets you replace tests/ midterm/ final with the other 4. You can always find him in his office for extra help. He gives old test and quizzes as samples. STUDY THOSE!
Don't take him. His tests and quizzes are difficult, and almost impossible to pass regardless of how long one studies for them. He can be really sarcastic, and gets annoyed at his students. Tryin my best in the class, but it is as if no matter how much effort I put in it its inevitable. Stay away from Schnatter, take Watson or Pasternak instead.
He's very dedicated and caring. Orgo is already hard and thus more studying is needed to do well in the course. But just because he teaches well doesn't mean that you can slack. Read the textbook, go to class, take good notes, study his sample tests/quizzes, watch videos, and ask for help. I don't study 24/7 and I did well; you can too.
Schnatter was an excellent teacher and always offered help when he could. Ofc this will not be a class where you can just come in hoping he teaches you EVERYTHING. You need to make the effort too and read the textbook. Reading beforehand helps A LOT. You should also practice his sample exams and tests as well. If you put effort, you will be fine
This man right here is difficult as hell. I'm not sure if it's Orgo or if it is just his teaching style or if it's him. Really difficult to pass. Expects you to know everything and then he just hands out the test papers like they're candy. Felt really violated in this class and his T.A. only helps the ladies. Not even the gentlemen that need it!
he is the absolute worst. such a hard grader and very sarcastic. do not take him for orgo!!! u will probably get lower than a C tbh
You need to do all assigned problems and must attend class to take good notes because he bases exams on notes and book combined. The exams are very straightforward and obvious. He does not try to trick you but you must know the material. A lot of extra credit available. You can go to his office before class and he will make everything crystal clear
people on here who are giving harsh ratings prob havent even opened the textbook, Schnatter's material is directly from the txtbook and it definitely helps to read it b4 or after the lecture. He gave so much extra cred on exams and quiz & 8 quizzes where only the 4 best count towards your grade. I was at a C- level but ended with an A thx to him !
Gives you multiple opportunities to pass if you show him you care. Do the hw, read the textbook cause everything he teaches is in the book, and go to class cause he drops hints on what will be on exams/quizzes. Quizzes and exams are similar to practice ones concept wise but not exactly the same. Will give you tons of extra credit if needed.
Really really nice awesome guy... gives so much extra credit it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE tp fail!! Review his sample quizzes/exams because they do repeat! And he's always available in his office or by e-mail to go over anything .... would take him again in a HEARTBEAT
Great professor! Gives a ton of extra credit, I would get loads wrong on exams and still get an A. Go to class and make sure you redo the problems he covers in lecture. They will appear on exams. It's orgo so your still gonna have to put in the work but its honestly not that bad.
He is one of my best professors. He always tried to give a 100% clear concept. He always happy to give extra time in his office to understand anything, he never feels disturbed. He is a very nice and helpful person. Thank you, Professor.
There were so many opportunities for extra credit and no tricks on exams. Everything was straightforward and exactly what was expected. You definitely need to work for it though, reviewing material and studying will get you an A.
I was at a C and ended up with a B- after the final. He's not one of the greatest professors for chemistry at LIU but I was satisfied with the grade, given the circumstances with COVID and remote learning. Orgo is hard in general and you have to work hard and study for it.
Cheers! Easy A
Gave the option of dropping quizzes/tests. Orgo is a difficult subject so u have to pay attention and read, but he's not out to trick u. Does many office hours and you can email him with any questions. An A is definitely possible!
Organic chemistry is a hard subject, and if you are not ready to self study a lot, then avoid this course. Professor Schnatter is a fair professor. The material as a whole is very challenging but he answers questions and will definitely help you out if you go to his office hours. I got a B- in CHM 121, and I just finished CHM 122 with a perfect A.
The reviews are misleading. He is not as good of a professor as the reviews may say. His quizzes are difficult and do not correspond with the study sheets he gives.
Solid professor, lots of extra credit opportunities which is good cause the subject is hard. Sometimes assumes that you know something which wasn't that clear in the lectures but overall you can get a good grade in this class if you put in the hours and study.
Cons: He focuses too much on unique problems, far above undergraduate organic chemistry. I've had med students be shocked at how hard some of his test problems are, mainly because you will have no time. The class average is easily a C-/C. Pros: Will give super hard extra credit questions on the test, uploads everything online. Many office hours.
Dont go for the ratings, he is one of the most horrible professors I have ever had in my life, and I am trying not to retake him. he only goes after the slides, exams are heavy and complicated, and not worth taking his classes, what's the point of extra credit if you don't teach well in the class
He cares about his students in the end and wants the best for them. His lectures are difficult to follow and there will be a lot of self studying but as long as you are communicating with him, you'll be okay.
Good Professor, offers many test reviews and office hours everynight. Very helpful in helping with confusing topics. However, he must be bored with his life. He goes out of his way to catch students cheating. He randomly began typing on my computer during the middle test and on the next test he took everyones computer away last second.
He sent me a harassing email at 2 in the morning with a rogue seating chart and is using security clearance to make us take exams
In the middle of my FINAL exam (worth 40% of the grade) he demanded I take off my glasses and continue the test without them Extremely weird guy during tests one time a student walked in during a blizzard to take a test and he made them strip to their t shirt. May be schizophrenic
During exams, only one student is permitted to know the time. Records questionable video during class on his iPhone without student consent. Takes it home and watches everyday prior to the final exam. Insisted on using finger print technology to take the exams, and attempted to hire individual proctors for exams. During oral exam, laughed at me.
A lot of back and forth with him trying to stop cheating (which is controversial but i find good). His teaching is mediocre and i often teach myself the concepts. Hes willing to help you if youre willing to learn and he has office hours daily. The course itself is hard, and if you can't take it honestly then you shouldnt be pre-professional anyway.
horrible professor, i took him thinking he was good. cannot teach at all. goes over zero practice problems in class. complains most of time, if you don't want to teach, then don't. only pro he does have many office hours. sometime he gets annoyed when you ask a question. curves very well. but not recommend because he cannot teach.
He took my glasses away in the middle of a pop quiz and spied on me with binoculars
I actually don't know how to feel. I like Prof.schnatter, great dude but those EXAMS? Holy crap it's unbelievable! I wholeheartedly blame that stupid class before us for cheating like no tomorrow and making us suffer. Like I study every single day and still somehow fail, I kinda give up. Professor pls give us all a C I beg :(
DON'T take Schnatter for Lecture by DO take him for lab. He requires a notebook for lab for you to write down your observations but he barley looks at it. You can write as little as you want and its fine as opposed to other lab classes where your required to write multiple paragrahs. He's chill and can be funny at times
Gives partial credit under HALF a point. Has office hours but his explanations do NOT help. He says he'll pass you if you try, but his grading is insane. Twelve different versions of his exams, and he records. You'll have a quiz in almost every lecture, sometimes 2 in one. CANNOT teach you'll be learning on your own.
Professor Schnatter's CHM121 class is challenging but manageable with dedication. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and try unstuck AI for effective study prep. The grading can be curved, so stay engaged.
RUN. this class was the bane of my existence. somehow by the grace of GOD i pulled off a B+ with RIGOROUS studying. if you aren't religious, pick one and start praying 😭😭😭. this is a class from hell. STAY AWAY.
Last semester we had 37 quizzes and he cannot teach for his life he just reads off his slides from 1997 and then talks about his bicycle for the next 35 minutes
He makes an already challenging class even more difficult. He often references a cheating incident from a year ago during lectures and still seems affected by it.Additionally, he records us during exams. It's unclear why he chose a teaching career when he appears to have such negative feelings toward his students. Might need a referral to a shrink.
Extremely overrated for no reason. His class is difficult but orgo is difficult in general. Just study and you'll be fine. He won't take anything not directly given in the slides. He offers a lot of extra credit and his grading makes it easy to do well.
He was honestly a very funny guy, but orgo will always be hard. Gives plenty of extra credit, but you have to work for it. Study content right after class- there is a mini quiz at the beginning of every class. Read the textbook and practice all the questions on the syllabus. First test is the easiest, so rack those points. Ask for help when needed!
