he is the cutest man, very helpful, online quizzes, great class!
online quizzes aren't bad, TA is the one really grading you

random class- online quizzes can make you or break you

class isnt too bad...just dont get the 8am lecture! you'll fall asleep!
8am class sucks, long lectures, but not too hard, online quizes are irrelevant
the 8am is only good for napping, and the online quizzes are annoying
he is the sweetest man in the world, and he has interesting stories too
extremely nice and understanding, interesting stories and lecture,8AM is tough
he is extremely intelligent, good guy- you'll like him
KNOWS what he's talking about, really interesting, grades easy if you read
his midterm and finals are okay, online quizzes are easy, posts all notes online

great class, a bit of reading, online notes and quizzes, critiques are bit hard
Knows a lot about global issues, onlines quizzes require reading, but aren't bad
He's a great guy! Interesting for most part. Do your work, read, show up!
you never have to go to class-he posts all the notes online! hes SO EASY!
Do not get up for this 8am...not worth it you'll fall asleep.Just use blackboard
Insightful, interesting, and very knowledgeable

put it this way, the avg on the final was 59%
Class average on the final exam: 58%; if your smart you'll take a hint!
very smart, lots of interesting stories, easy if you go.
Easiest class I've taken. I showed once every two weeks and got a B on the final
AWESOME TEACHER! Study for midterm and final and you will be fine!
Very smart man. many interesting stories. good at applying material.
very nice but piles of reading. tests are impossibly hard with online timed quizzes every week (except for the week before thanksgiving and winter break). have to meet certain number of hours for community service.
Really nice and REALLY interesting! He's been everywhere and he has tons of stories. He has a weekly online quiz, so some work, and you have to study some for the test. I got a B for relatively little work.
Weekly online exams got harder and harder...I got a between a 50 and a 70 on all exams and i studies ALOT! Have to memorize the ATLAS to do well and know everything about geography and history to do well!!
I have had Dr. Teel for 3 classes and now i am graduating. If you have a chance to take him and dont, then you are and idiot. He doesnt teach straight from a book because he has real life knowledge. He is the man. Take him
Exciting Teacher, However needs to explain things before assigning questions...sometimes questions were out of the blue with no support during lecture (until after the work was turned in)
cool guy
I thought he was funny as hell. Nice guy, laid back, good real life examples to teach from. Better than the others you could choose.
Tests were absolutely ridiculous. One of his questions on his final is, "what country did my adopted daughter come from?" I don't know about you, but that has nothing with anything we learned in class.
Extremely hard and random test questions...reading not too bad, but lectures are boring. You still need to go even though lectures are on blackboard
Like any ISAT class, its lots of work and not the easiest of classes, but Dr. Teel is a good professor and classes are enjoyable. Very nice guy (and entertaining) and makes an effort to help students out.
You're my boy Wayne. Funny guy, real easy...likes to get to know students. Take him if you want someone who will challenge you but ensure a fun class
Helpful guy; knows his stuff. Has a lot of experience and doesn't just lecture from a book; pay attention in class and you'll do fine. Cares about his students; a very good teacher.
teels a nice guy, however for a technical class, hes extremely vague and goes off on tangents frequently. exams include material that is barely reviewed in class. class can be boring.
Teel's a very nice guy, and he makes the class pretty interesting with stories and such, but he is not at all clear on the technical side, which happens to be what his tests are on. It's a mixed bag.
I dont ever go to this class and still get a B on the tests. Really nice guy, is a very active environmentalist (whether that is good is up to you). His lectures are on current issues in the world and the environment. A good twist of subject matter, but youll have to go in order to pass the tests
Always helpful and interesting. Enthusiasm for the subject, and teaches stuff that you can apply to real situations if you like the environment and such. Took him fall 04.
Teel is such an interesting professor. His life experiences really enhance his teaching. I highly recommend this class as a GEN ED for freshmen. The topics are kind of random but it's so interesting that it doesn't really matter. No book so take good notes in lecture and read articles he assigns. Def. take Teel~ you'll love this class.
Nice enough guy, but unless you are an isat major stay away from this class! There are MUCH easier gen ed science classes out there. His lectures often wander and his tests cover chemistry concepts that he barely touches in class. Also there is a huge homework load. Again this is the fault of the class, not him personally.
Can't really tell what to take notes on for the weekly quizes, that are supposed to just make sure you were in class...no attendance policy. 10 hours community service required. 2 tests & article reviews. He is very likable, but sometimes becuase he covers so much, its confusing what you actually need to know. You get used to it. Big class!
The man's cool in my book. Definitly a hippie back in his days. However, this class, if your not a geography major, blows major ****. It's really hard to displine yourself to go because the information is random and boring. Just get a geography major to help you get through it. Other than that Dr. Teel as a person is a friendly guy.
It was a lot of work...especially with the homeworks. But if you just do the assignments and go to class, it's not hard to get an A. He's really easy to talk to, as well.
HAVE TO GO TO CLASS...no attendance policy but you must be there or else you will be totally lost. I made this mistake and have fallen behind quite a bit. He knows a lot and his class can be interesting. Just go to class and you will do fine.
Well, for those of you who thought you can get an easy **** GENED class, WRONG! No attendence policy but I havent been in a month. You may say I did this too myself but just sit in the class and see for your self, "oh the bordem"...if you dare. Info is sporadic and this isn't like your typical GENED class. Pretty much ****ed for the final.
its the gened class not sure what number. OK first off if you don't have a car dont' take it b/c the community service (10 hrs) you have to do will be easier if you have one. weekly quizzes, not that easy. no attendence was the only good thing. not really sure what to expect on the midterm or final. don't buy the book, you won't read it
Wayne has soooooo much knowledge and is so into the environment. his stories are cool but his voice is so mono toned that it can b hard to stay awake. Quizzes online once a week. 3 article reviews, 1 mid term, 1 final. Take this man. He's cool.
If you are looking for a guarenteed easy A, wayne is not your professor. Hes a great man who knows what hes talking about though. Once a week quizzes are easy because they are online at home so you can look things up. Tests are kinda hard, mini papers should be definite 100's, and I got a B+ in the class, so hes not that hard people.
Great teacher. I typically hate science courses but Teel made this one very interesting. He is EXTREMELY liberal and will often insult government officials, almost always conservative republicans. He is a huge environmentalist also which can get annoying as some things seem to be blown way out of proportion. Still highly recommend him though.
I wish class had been a little more structured, but all in all this was a really great class and Dr. Teel is a great person to learn the subject from.
Class is relatively easy, weekly online quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, and three short article review papers. He has a tendancy to go off on tangents that don't have any factual backup, very liberal. a lot of his lectures start off with an attack of the Bush administration. very annoying. provides a one-sided view to everything he teaches.
I like Dr Teel. He is so passionate about geography and politics. His tests are easy if you study what he tells you to study. No homework, a few short papers which are also very easy. The community service project was kind of boring though.
great professor -- really has a passion for what he teaches. makes things more interesting and has fun stories about his travels around the world. if this is for a gened i would definitely recommend teel.
Teel was unprepared for the majority of the semester. If a question was poorly written on an exam (which was often) his answer was "well at least i was consistent across the class", which hurt everyone's grades. He routinely gives homework assignments due days before we had begun the material, and often unfairly blamed things on his undergrad TAs.
Teel is one of the worst I've had. His lectures provide little useful information and he doesn't even cover most of the math involved in the class. The homework he assigns is a waste of time as well.
Teel is so interesting!! He's been around the world and has alot of practical experience (especially regarding the environment and politics throughout the world) occasionally class is boring, but then you will learn something that completely changes your perspective! i recommend him for any class he teaches
Teel is the man! His lectures are always interesting because he has done a lot of cool stuff, like live in Africa for a while. To do well you need to read the book portion before the lecture, pay attention and take notes during the lecture, and do the homework. The first and last ones were hard, everything else was easy/manageable.
Teel is definetly very knowledgeable professor, especially with bioremiation stuff. But he does not explain details of how to work problems well... and then puts them on hw and tests! Didn't give clear guidance for the stream project either... at least the text is good. Teel's section is def. easier than Tuckers, imo.
Such a easy class. Tests are easy. Class is interesting. Its a great class and an easy A. Its triple taught with Teel Papidakas and Goodall who are all good professors. 5 homework writting assignments but its all interesting and easy online quizes. HW and Quizes are 60% so make sure you do it.
He knows his information, but he is extremely biased and spends every lecture ranting about the government. He barely covers the material and math that he puts on the tests, so you basically have to teach yourself or just wing it. His lectures are very boring but the labs aren't so bad.
incredible difficult, lectures are hard to understand, material is so hard! teel is nice though, but his class is not.
If you're not a science/math person, be weary of this class. The tests are extremely hard and loaded with long mathematical problems and concepts. The lectures are very and the textbook is basically useless. Labs are okay if you end up with a good group. Try to avoid if you can..
Teel is one of the nicest and most helpful teachers out there. However, given the course content, I would not recommend taking unless you're quite into the environment and chemistry, above all. However, the course should be called"Chemistry in context of the Environment", for accuracy. Still, overall a good teacher, and is somewhat interesting.
Barely any structure, rather unclear with essay expectations, no real rubric. He's very, very intelligent and likeable and very respectful towards students. But this class is geared towards isat/geog majors, so other majors beware. don't recommend unless you are extra interested
So Teel is GREAT when it comes to lecture and personality. He is super funny in his own little way and has great stories to tell. He is a HARD grader. You will never get an A no matter how hard you work in this class. If you can accept the B, definitely take his class, you will enjoy it.
This class was taught by him and Dr. Amy but honestly he just made the class very confusing. Every time he taught, rather than her, he would just put up a powerpoint full of random pictures and talk about Africa. He also took off 15 points from my paper because of grammar and wordy sentences. Good guy, but would not recommend him for other classes.
Dr Teel is cool. His class is reasonable and you can get an A you just have to work for it. He doesn't really have a set syllabus for papers, but he's not a very hard grader if you can write a decent paper. He even let us redo the final paper that was a group paper. Do the reading and attend and it's a pretty easy B.
This was the first semester Dr. Teel taught this course so it was pretty rough around the edges. The lectures can be very hard to sit through at times. Occasionally the class feels a little directionless. Dr. Teel is more than fair with grading and will answer your questions all day long. He makes it very apparent that he enjoys what he does.
Professor Teel cares about what he does but he is not the best professor in my opinion, 190 was entirly project based but you rarely got clear instruction for what you were supposed to do which made the class more confusing than it should have been. Worst part was at the end of the semester he was not willing to round my 89.7 to an A-
Professor Teel does not get that his audience is upper level students who are not science majors, just trying to pass their gen. ed. He cares so much about the topic and rants for hours about climate change. But that is not what the exam looks like. You have to teach yourself hard science problems. Go to class to pick up homework.
this is my last gen ed class and its unnecessarily hard for a 100-level class. the exams do not reflect anything we talk about in class. the stuff in his lectures aren't even on the exam. so it's a waste of time to go to class for lecture and read the textbook just to fail the exam
Class is hard for a 100 level course. Teel acknowledged his exams were hard midway through the semester and the class is quiz & homework assignment heavy. Lectures don't help when studying for exams and you have to essentially teach yourself how to do the math problems for exams. Avoid this class
Passionate about what he teaches but pushes too far often concerning opinions and personal views. Need more facts and less emotions-driven propaganda. Also would benefit students with less vague instructions and adding more ways to teach to not-so math-inclined students. This is a gen Ed after all not a masters course in saving the universe.
Dr. Teel does an amazing job of making new information fun and enjoyable to learn all while making it applicable to every day life. Would definitely take this class again! You learn both practical knowledge about soils and how to use this knowledge to better care for the land and better understand the opportunities we have in agriculture
He is a fantastic professor. If you are even remotely interested in the class material he will spark something in you there are some papers and the exams can be difficult but I would take another class with him in a heartbeat. He is passionate and gives excellent lectures. he really cares about how you do in the class and will help you if he can
too hard for a gen ed but definitely do-able. nice guy but the class is extremely boring. don't get confused by the name, this class is chemistry.
Terrible class for a gen-ed course. Admitted that he didn't know how to teach to an intro class because he expects us to know more about chemistry. If you don't read the book you wont understand anything on the exams. His lectures are random and have no relation to the exams. The name is very deceiving as it is a chemistry class. DO-NOT take
Teel is goofy but an awful teacher. This is not an intro course and was super tough. The name is deceiving, I was super excited about a class about climate change and sustainability and I am aware that there is science involved but this is a chemistry class. People complain about his politics but its all science based and very relative to class.
Teel has very strong left political views and makes it clear in lectures. If your views differ, his class might not be for you. His lectures are boring, but attendance isn't mandatory. He does give homework assignments in class only, so if you miss them it hurts your grade. Exams are hard but overall your grade will reflect the effort you put in.
idk what was going on in those ISAT classes, but for Geography of Africa, he was fantastic. He has a wealth of experience in the area and clearly explained many of the complex conflicts going on. I hate morning classes, but getting up and listening to his many stories is an experience I'm very grateful for. One of the best classes I've taken at JMU
I'm not sure why Professor Teel is getting so much heat on here for "left" leaning views, in my personal opinion he is extremely educated and knows the material front and back. It seems people on here don't appreciate sensical, educated view points. Dr. Teel is warm and understanding, only downside would be boring lectures. Take Dr. Teel for an A.
