Tests are tough if you are not good at matching, and multiple choice section is designed to trip you up. Very knowledgeable, but way too much info for the grade to be based solely on 2 tests. Easy to pass, but difficult to get an A (or even a B).

Dr. VanHorne is through. Your grade is based on 2-3 tests depending on the class. However, he spends an entire class period prior to test day going over what to study for. In fact, he tells the class not only what to study, but what page to find it on! Come on people how much easier do you want it?

Great teacher, but his test are tricky. He says they are not, but they are. Most of the class got C's. The class seems easy, but because of the way he grades (three tests, no paper, doesn't cruve an inch) and the tricky questions, it's not. Go to every class, read the book, take lots of notes, & ask lots of questions. Very intresting lectures.

There are only 3 tests for the whole course. No attendance, homework, or quizzes to cushion your grade. I wouldn't recommend this class for first-year students like I was. I also wouldn't recommend it if you're not a great note-taker. The teaching style didn't really help me learn at all. He was kinda funny but that's pretty much it.

I took ANTH 1102 with Professor Van Horne in the Spring 2020 semester and while I did receive an A, I wouldn't recommend the class for anyone who doesn't want to put their 100% into the class. The class is very lecture heavy and he only gives 3 tests. During our semester, COVID-19 made the class much easier and he made 2 of the tests open note.

Bases quiz grades off of whether he "thinks" you understand the content or not, not based on satisfactory answers given through the literature he provides. Seems a bit pompous that he assumes you should know what his ideal answer would be, given we are not mind readers and all...

I took Dr. Van Horne for ANTH 3315 and it was a very easy class. Only graded by 15 quizzes (1 per week). He posts study guides for each of the quizzes and each question on the quizzes comes straight from the study guide. As long as you take the time to watch the lectures and do the study guides, this class is an easy A.

A lot of reading and quizzes weekly. The quizzes are based on the PowerPoint and book chapters so as long as you read them and take some notes you will pass with a high grade.

I love his class so much! I'm virtual, so I've never met him, but I can tell he cares. I missed a quiz due to illness and he was kind enough to let me take it anyways. He gives very concise notes on the topics in each module. The weekly quizzes are open-note/open-book and are the only grade for the class. No midterms, finals, or papers.

I took this class online and it was SO HARD. Overall, there was about 3 hours of work required each week to prepare for the weekly open-note quizzes, but even after studying, most of the quiz questions were impossible to find in my notes. Extra credit was not an option and it was extremely difficult to get in contact with him.

Wayne Van Horne's class is one of the most interesting courses I've taken. The only teaching style he employs is lecture, but his lectures are interesting and attendance is not required. The grades are 4 open note tests, but questions are pulled directly from provided lecture question and online tests. Get his class if it is available.

Professor Van Horne was very clear with grading criteria in his online Anth 1102 class. It was basically read a chapter, take a quiz..every week. No midterm, no final, no essays...just reading and quizzes every week. Overall it was a very easy course.

Passionate professor and I really enjoyed his content. Very unique and interesting. Only 4 grades which were the tests, but the material for it is given to you. Very easy if you apply yourself.

Very good professor. Very straight forward. Directly states the information he wants you to learn, and will quiz from the directly stated information. If you have any questions he will answer them swiftly and clearly.
